Voices for Humanity Goes the Extra Mile to Battle Drug Abuse With Gergő Németh

ABOUT GERGŐ NÉMETH

Gergő Németh is a native of Budapest, Hungary. As a child he experienced the devastating effects of his father's substance abuse. To protect Gergő, his mother left her husband and raised her son alone, instilling in him the importance of keeping a positive outlook in life. As a young adult, seeing friends succumb to substance abuse and descending down the same path as his father, he was inspired to lead a life of activism. Then, after discovering the Drug-Free World educational resources, Gergő set out to teach his country the truth about drugs.

Gergő Németh is the executive director of Foundation for a Drug-Free World Hungary.

ABOUT NICOLE CRELLIN

Nicole Crellin was born on a family farm in Alexandria, Ontario, Canada, on the border of French and English-speaking provinces. Her father would transcend the prevailing bigotry of the time and become the first French-speaking mayor of their township. Nicole, growing up with a passion for helping others, studied education at the University of Ottawa and, after graduation, became a teacher. In 1975, she met Mr. John Peters Humphrey, the principal author of the first draft of the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a fact Nicole would not learn until thirty years later. It was then, troubled by the alarming rise in racial bigotry targeting Indigenous peoples and immigrants, that she learned of the Universal Declaration and joined Youth for Human Rights International. Nicole and her team have reached millions of Canadians of virtually every nationality, while her steadfast dedication to raising human rights awareness has earned her the Peace Ambassador Award.

Church of Scientology Los Angeles Memorial Day Event Launches a Season of Programs for the East Hollywood Community

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Hundreds of local families gathered in May on L. Ron Hubbard Way, joining the Church of Scientology Los Angeles for the first of a series of summer festivals for the East Hollywood community. Memorial Day is set aside to honor fallen U.S. military service members. A 22-year veteran Marine colonel spoke of the meaning of Memorial Day and led the crowd in the National Moment of Remembrance. This was followed by a moving rendition of Taps - the bugle call played at U.S. military funerals since the Civil War. A U.S. Coast Guard veteran shared his views on the importance of this day and how service to the country includes involvement in the health of the community.

Memorial Day also signals the start of the summer season, and Church spaces were transformed into a family fun day, complete with face painting, patriotic arts and crafts, a water slide, a bouncy castle, mural painting, and donut-eating contests. There was traditional BBQ and entertainment, including an Americana concert, a performance by indie rock band WWD HAN and a magic show.

Susanna Kaneer, public affairs director for the Scientology Churches of Greater Los Angeles, said, "We host open house events, seminars and family fun days throughout the year in keeping with these words of Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard: 'A community that pulls together can make a better society for all.'"

The Church of Scientology of Los Angeles is an Ideal Scientology Organization, designed to provide ideal facilities for Scientologists on their ascent to higher states of spiritual freedom and to serve as a home for the entire community - a meeting ground of cooperative effort to uplift people of all denominations. Rallying With The Way to Happiness and its Message of Human Understanding and Peace to Help Avert Predicted Riots During South Africa’s Elections

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa /ScoopCloud/ -- A diverse and eclectic team of volunteers mobilized on election day, May 29, at Castle Kyalami, Scientology headquarters for Africa. More than 400 joined the initiative to promote a fair and peaceful election with the precepts of The Way to Happiness, the nonreligious common-sense guide to better living written by author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard. They wanted to do their part to back up officials, police, churches and other nonprofits that were working to ensure a peaceful election and keep the democratic process working.

In addition to Scientologists who gathered to carry out the project, teams included pastors, bishops, archbishops, and members of diverse denominations. They were joined by influencers, prominent community leaders, concerned businesspeople, and UN International Ambassadors for Peace. Each volunteer collected sets of The Way to Happiness booklets as they headed out to 80 polling stations across the country. They delivered more than 66,000 copies, presenting each booklet personally to individuals and encouraging them to pass them on to others to share the message of peace and empowerment.

Volunteers described the response to The Way to Happiness as "transformational" - both for themselves and those receiving the booklets.

Many read the booklet while waiting in line at their polling place and returned to the volunteers to ask for more copies for family and friends.

Seeing the book's potential, some asked to establish partnerships. A mining executive asked for a presentation on how he could use The Way to Happiness in his company.

Local shops joined the movement, taking boxes of The Way to Happiness and personally handing them to customers and staff. Taxi drivers took copies to hand to passengers.

Several people who volunteered with the program for the first time that day expressed their delight at seeing the book's impact on those receiving it.

A TV station interviewed one of the campaign organizers. The reporter was taken aback to learn that the volunteers were doing this to ensure happy and safe elections. He realized the campaign promotes human understanding, tolerance, social cohesion, and a positive personal outlook for the future.

One pastor, who was serving as an external expert in cross-checking election results, expressed how moved he was by the program. This is exactly the kind of practical initiative every church needs for its congregation, he said.

All concerned were thrilled to learn that despite apprehension that riots might erupt at the polls, the voting was peaceful. Not a single act of violence was reported. They were proud to have done their part and contributed to bringing this about along with people of goodwill across the nation.

The future still holds many challenges, including how South Africa will deal with the election results, in which no party won a majority. But the campaign brought home to many that there is every reason to be optimistic - that it is in their hands to fulfill Mandela's vision of a democratic and free society in which all persons can live together in harmony and with equal opportunities.

In the first chapter of The Way to Happiness, L. Ron Hubbard wrote, "You are important to other people. You are listened to. You can influence others. The happiness or unhappiness of others you could name is important to you. Without too much trouble, using this book, you can help them survive and lead happier lives. While no one can guarantee that anyone else can be happy, their chances of survival and happiness can be improved. And with theirs, yours will be."

The Way to Happiness fills the moral vacuum in an increasingly materialistic society. It contains 21 basic principles that guide one to a better quality of life. This code of conduct can be followed by anyone of any race, color, or creed and works to restore the bonds that unite humankind.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers Honored for Their Help in the Aftermath of Last Year’s Devastating Floods

FORLI, Italy /ScoopCloud/ -- On the anniversary of the May 2023 Emilia-Romagna floods, Forlì Mayor Gian Luca Zattini held an event to express his city's gratitude to the many volunteers who responded to help the region recover from the unprecedented disaster. Proud of their contribution, the Volunteer Ministers of the Scientology Churches of Italy were among those honored by the mayor and officials of several cities in the province of Forlì-Cesena.

In May 2023, rainfall inundated the region. Rivers overflowed, triggering landslides across Emilia-Romagna, displacing some 1,000 residents. Homes, businesses and agricultural land across the region suffered severe water damage, contributing to an estimated €8.8 billion in damage and economic loss. The one bright spot was the outpouring of help from the voluntary disaster response community.

Flood response is arduous but vital work: digging homes and businesses out of the mud, removing debris, shoring up damaged walls, removing and drying out carpets and furniture, disposing of flooring and walls contaminated with mold.

For weeks, Volunteer Ministers served in the region, taking on these tasks and distributing food, water and supplies. But they also provided the unique spiritual assistance they are known for.

Volunteer Ministers are trained to administer assists, techniques developed by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard that help people overcome the emotional and spiritual factors in stress and trauma. They used these techniques to help victims overcome fear, anguish, and hopelessness and restore peace of mind, making it easier for those who lost so much to deal with immediate challenges and plan for the future.

After the celebration to honor those who responded to the disaster in 2023, the Volunteer Ministers were invited to set up their signature yellow tents in Piazza Saffi, the main plaza of the city, to introduce residents and those attending the celebration from nearby cities to the Scientology Tools for Life. These are 19 free online courses that provide Scientology technology for bettering life's challenges, including relationship difficulties and overcoming barriers to setting and achieving goals.

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers program is a religious social service, developed in the mid-1970s. In an essay announcing the program, Mr. Hubbard wrote: "If one does not like the crime, cruelty, injustice and violence of this society, he can do something about it. He can become a Volunteer Minister and help civilize it, bring it conscience and kindness and love and freedom from travail by instilling into it trust, decency, honesty and tolerance."

Their motto is no matter the circumstances, "Something can be done about it."

Inspired by Scientology ecclesiastical leader Mr. David Miscavige, who called on Scientologists to redouble their efforts to aid their fellow man in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York, Volunteer Ministers of Italy formed Pro.Civi.Co.S, the Civil Defense Volunteers of the Scientology Community, which was entered into the registry of the National Department of Civil Defense the following year. Over the past two decades, Pro.Civi.Co.S and the Volunteer Ministers of Italy have responded to disasters at home and abroad, including the L'Aquila and Amatrice earthquakes in Italy, the South Asian tsunami of 2004, the Haiti earthquake of 2010, the 2019 Albania earthquake, and the 2020 Croatia earthquake.

Throughout the pandemic, they established and ran help lines, provided assistance to healthcare workers, saw to the needs of their communities, and sanitized churches, mosques, and other houses of worship, making it possible for them to safely serve their congregations. Their work is featured in the new feature-length film Operation: Do Something About It on the Scientology Network.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers and Their Partners Provide Urgently Needed Help to Victims of the Rio Grande do Sul Disaster

RIO GRANDE DO SUL, Brazil /ScoopCloud/ -- Nearly a month since torrential rains triggered flooding, submerging much of the state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, Scientology Volunteer Ministers continue to help disaster response agencies cope with the unprecedented destruction. While media are reporting 150 people have perished from the flood, those on the ground report the casualty rate is far higher. Many are without water, electricity and basic services. At least 600,000 have been displaced and much of the region is still underwater. Help is urgently needed.

The Church of Scientology Mission of São Paulo is coordinating Volunteer Minister activities in the region. In partnership with the Boy Scouts and civil firefighters, who have trained in Volunteer Minister technology, they are organizing and distributing supplies and providing Scientology assists to those devastated by the crisis. Assists are techniques developed by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard to provide relief from the mental and spiritual factors of trauma and stress, making it possible for victims of disaster to come to terms with their circumstances and take effective action to deal with them.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers international headquarters in Los Angeles flew a team of the legendary Los Topos disaster response specialists from Mexico to Brazil. Los Topos, who have partnered with the Volunteer Ministers on numerous disasters since 2010, is working with Brazilian military and civil defense to search for and rescue victims trapped in their homes and provide needed first aid.

In Mathias Velho, one of the hardest-hit areas, Volunteer Ministers are working alongside local firefighters, organizing donated supplies, food and water, and delivering them by boat to those stranded in flooded areas.

Scoutmaster Marcos Antonio Correia Santos, who is working with the Volunteer Ministers team, describes the region as "a war zone. People don't know what to do," he says. "They are afraid - you can see the fear on their faces."

"The suffering and pain is immense," says a Volunteer Minister who flew in from Guatemala to join the disaster response team. "They are going to need a lot of help."

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers program is a religious social service, developed by Mr. Hubbard in the mid-1970s. He can become a Volunteer Minister and help civilize it, bring it conscience and kindness and love and freedom from travail by instilling into it trust, decency, honesty and tolerance."

Their motto is no matter the circumstances, "Something can be done about it."

With the events of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City, Scientology ecclesiastical leader Mr. David Miscavige called on Scientologists to redouble their efforts to aid their fellow man. He issued a directive entitled "The Wake-Up Call," which has inspired exponential growth within the Volunteer Minister program.

New South Wales Sikh Motorcycle Club Promotes Peace, Equality and Human Rights at an Annual Festival

COFFS HARBOUR, New South Wales /ScoopCloud/ -- Every April, Sikh communities around the world celebrate the Sikh faith festival of Vaisakhi with a procession known as Nagar Kirtan. The event not only brings the Sikh community together but also promotes Sikh beliefs and community activism to the wider society. Human rights and social justice are central to Sikh beliefs. This is why the Singhs Social Motorcycle Club of Australia (Singhs SMC) joined forces with United for Human Rights New South Wales, a human rights campaign supported by the Church of Scientology, to raise awareness of an important human rights issue affecting Australians.

Gurū Nānak (1469-1539), founder of Sikhism, was centuries ahead of his time. He embraced human rights, advocated the principle of human equality across caste and religion, and called on Sikhs to be active in promoting this.

At this year's Nagar Kirtan in Coffs Harbour, a city on the north coast of New South Wales, Singhs SMC promoted the importance of ending domestic violence. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, one in six women, 15 and older, have experienced physical or sexual violence by a current or previous partner.

United for Human Rights volunteers walked along the procession route with volunteers and club members who adopted the United for Human Rights campaign as a program that can help them achieve their own purpose of promoting human decency and respect.

Volunteers from United for Human Rights NSW handed out booklets that raise awareness of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Some 3,500 local residents gathered for the festival.

Singhs SMC's support of human rights at the Coffs Harbour Nagar Kirtan was "a powerful testament to the spirit of unity, compassion, and activism of the Sikh community and its collective commitment to creating a more just and inclusive society," said a representative of United for Human Rights NSW.

United for Human Rights and its initiative for young people, Youth for Human Rights International, are supported by Scientology Churches and Scientologists, making it possible to provide its educational materials free of charge to educators, civic and community leaders, and anyone wishing to educate youth or adults on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The program is inspired by humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard's belief that "Human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream."

Amy, who was looking for something that could "heal the soul," responded to the Scientology Super Bowl ad suggesting she should satisfy her curiosity by simply walking into a Church of Scientology. She took part in a Dianetics seminar, where people new to the subject partner with another person to learn the basics of Dianetics and use it with each other.

"I was nervous at first," she says. "But I followed the instructions, and that made me feel more comfortable and confident." She felt "really in tune" with the woman she was helping.

Then, when it was her turn, Amy says, "I was able to address an incident that happened when I was 17 years old. Instead of avoiding it, I felt all the emotions and pain as if it were happening now. I expressed emotions in session that I never allowed myself to feel, and I realized that this really works. And now that incident has been erased. I am no longer afraid to talk about it." And the incident no longer has any hold over her.

For Bikash, before he began the Dianetics Seminar he felt as though he was "at the end of the line. I sometimes hated myself. I had a lot of problems that I just didn't know how to deal with."

This took a toll on his marriage. "I couldn't explain how I felt," he says, describing his relationship with his wife as "a real roller coaster."

"The Dianetics Seminar made me more effective in controlling my emotions and solving the issues I faced," he says.

Before using Dianetics, the way he would deal with a situation "used to make me feel just horrible," he says. "But now, I can look at that same situation, and while it hasn't changed, how I view it has changed." And bottom line, "I am so much happier."

Warren had no idea he still had grief about his grandmother. "I was honestly surprised that I cried, but it was a great feeling to release my emotions on that," he says. "I felt a great weight lift off me." He can now talk about his grandmother "without experiencing the pain of her loss."

But Warren also says it was gratifying to help guide the man he was partnered with, using Dianetics procedure, "so he could feel relief."

Before her Dianetics Seminar, Cristina used to think "everything bad that happened was my fault." Now she knows that's not true "and I don't feel guilty anymore."

Church of Scientology Hosts Inner City Shakespeare Ensemble: Young Actors Present Blow-Away Performance of Their PG Version of ‘Grease’

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- An ensemble of 22 kids proved "Rock and Roll is Here to Stay" with their high-energy rendition of Grease [PG] at the Church of Scientology Los Angeles last week, produced and directed by Inner City Shakespeare Ensemble Founder and Executive Director Dr. Melanie Andrews.

The young artists channeled the spirit and enthusiasm of the 1950s and the movie's famous cast while adding their own swagger and unique style.

Inner City Shakespeare Ensemble (ICSE) is a subsidiary of the InnerCity Performing Arts nonprofit. It introduces at-risk students to the world of theater.

In addition to renditions of Shakespeare classics, including Twelfth Night, Othello and Taming of the Shrew the ensemble has also performed such Broadway musicals as For Colored Girls and Positive Secrets.

ICSE was in rehearsal for their production of Romeo and Juliette just as the pandemic hit. In the true spirit of "the show must go on" they transitioned to the internet. Dr. Andrews decided to run the rehearsals online via Zoom. They recorded the show live, with backdrops and costumes, and this unique production is available on YouTube.

Dr. Andrews is dedicated to ensuring inner-city kids have the opportunity to learn, perform, and be introduced to Shakespeare and the world theater. Spotlights and fireworks lit the night sky over the Hollywood Walk of Fame as California State Senator David Roberti helped cut the ribbon, describing the exhibition as "a fitting tribute to Mr. Hubbard who has given not only to our state, not only to our country, but to the world itself the gift of better understanding."

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored the exhibition's anniversary and its participation in the life of the community, stating, "In keeping with our mission to promote and enhance the business, cultural and civic well-being of Hollywood, we would like to express our appreciation for everything you do to contribute to the safety, beauty and esprit of our unique community."

This is in no small part due to the Exhibition's support and contribution to Scientology-supported humanitarian initiatives, including the Foundation for a Drug-Free World's drug education and prevention campaigns; United for Human Rights, which raises awareness of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; and the Scientology Volunteer Ministers, on call throughout the year to provide help and support in times of disaster great or small.

Exhibition staff also help organize and produce Hollywood's annual Faith & Blue activities - a collaboration of the Los Angeles Police Department, local churches, and scores of community partners to promote a safer, stronger, more just and more unified community. The exhibition occupies the ground floor and mezzanine of the Hollywood Guarantee Building, recognized as a historic landmark in 1979. With 12 stories, it was one of the tallest buildings in Los Angeles when it opened in 1923. Charlie Chaplin invested in the building's construction and owned an office on the 2nd floor. Say No to Drugs Puglia also provides local schools with drug education booklets, DVDs and a curriculum teachers can use to engage children on this vital subject. Many local schools use these materials for drug education classes, beginning in the sixth grade, when kids typically have their first contact with substances such as alcohol and marijuana.

Schools ask them for additional drug information materials to hand out to kids for carrying out research and group projects. And the Say No to Drugs team frequently holds drug prevention lectures and conferences to educate anyone willing to take action to help youth decide to live drug-free.

A chilling exhibit on the violation of human rights in the psychiatric industry, Psychiatry: An Industry of Death highlights little-known facts about potentially harmful side effects of psychiatric drugs, restraint, seclusion and electroshock and their use without informed consent - even on children.

Despite dozens of psychiatric drug warnings issued by the Australian Government, 44.4 million prescriptions were dispensed for mental health-related medications (both subsidized and under co-payment) in Australia, to 4.7 million Australians according to the 2021/22 report and 1,371,095 New South Wales (NSW) adults and children consumed these drugs that year.

The NSW exhibit raised awareness of continued abuse in the psychiatric industry despite UN and WHO guidelines of October 2023 calling for an end to coercive psychiatry.

One such abuse is electroshock (ECT). This is the application of hundreds of volts of electricity applied to the head, creating the equivalent of a grand mal seizure. It can cause brain damage, heart attacks, memory loss - even death.

United Nations and World Health Organization guidance called electroshock an "irreversible intervention," and stated, "ECT is not recommended for children, and this should be prohibited through legislation." Yet Medicare continues to fund ECT in Australia. What's more, there is no ban in place to prevent the use of ECT on children. It can also be forcibly given to involuntarily detained NSW patients without their consent.

In 2021/22 there were 804 Tribunal Hearings in NSW to consider application of forced ECT on involuntary patients, nearly 90 percent of which were approved. These hearings included five applications to give ECT to girls under age 16, three of which were approved.

Those touring the exhibit were encouraged to sign a petition calling for a ban on the use of electroshock in the state.

This exhibit features 10 display panels incorporating audio-visual presentations depicting key concerns and topics of human rights abuses in the mental health system with statements from psychiatrists, doctors, lawyers, legal and human rights experts, and victims of psychiatric brutalities.

CCHR NSW states: "With NSW's record spending on mental health reaching a staggering $2.9 billion in 2022/23, (up more than 52% since 2017/18) psychiatry is not being held accountable to produce results. If the NSW mental health system were working, the numbers of children and adults needing assistance would be decreasing as people got better. Instead, the lives of vulnerable children and adults are continually being placed at risk with electroshock, psychiatric restraint and potentially dangerous psychiatric drugs which can be forced on patients, potentially setting up patients for life and a recurring revenue stream for psychiatry with poor and harmful results."

* The DEA also seized 12,000 pounds of fentanyl powder.

* The 2023 seizures equate to more than 376.7 million lethal doses of fentanyl.

* Of the seized pills containing fentanyl, seven out of 10 of those tested contained potentially deadly quantities of the drug.

* Poisoning deaths (including poisoning by fentanyl-laced pills) are the leading killer of Americans age 18 to 45.

"We have a task ahead of us," said Dave Scattergood, Northwest representative of Foundation for a Drug-Free World whose Seattle chapter cohosted the open house. "The way we do this is by getting our free educational materials into the hands of youth and those who interact with them such as educators and counselors."

The UN Office on Drugs and Crime has long designated prevention as a critical component of effective drug policy, stating "Prevention strategies based on scientific evidence working with families, schools, and communities can ensure that children and youth, especially the most marginalized and poor, grow and stay healthy and safe into adulthood and old age. For every dollar spent on prevention, at least ten can be saved in future health, social and crime costs." But in the throes of the fentanyl crisis, the role of prevention becomes paramount, says Drug-Free World International Executive Director Jessica Hochman.

"It's time to realize prevention is the only viable solution to the overdose crisis," says Hochman. "Fentanyl has changed the dynamic of drug abuse. The solution is to educate youth, so they don't start taking drugs in the first place. Help them gain confidence that they are doing the right thing in not taking drugs, period."

This was the theme of a demonstration at the 2024 Congress of the Schizophrenia International Research Society in Florence. CCHR brought their protest to the 2024 Congress of the Schizophrenia International Research Society in Florence to demand attendees take responsibility for ending psychiatric abuse. They insisted the congress take action to ensure full compliance with UN and WHO guidance issued in October 2023 to end coercive practices in the field of mental health.

Hundreds demonstrated in the heart of the city to press home these demands. Among those attending the demonstrations were two psychiatrists who were warned by congress organizers to ignore the protest, but they wanted CCHR to know that they agree that there is too much coercion in psychiatry.

The march was followed by the opening of the Psychiatry: An Industry of Death Exhibit, sponsored by the Municipality of Florence April 5 to 9 at the historic Duomo Auditorium.

Among the visitors to the exhibit was a nurse who told CCHR volunteers it is very important to let people know that physical restraints are a human rights abuse and that in her work, she sees drugs prescribed for dubious diagnoses. A student thanked CCHR for educating him on the danger of psychotropic drugs. Visitors were shocked to learn Italian children are still being prescribed drugs with black box labels (labels that warn users of the danger of administering these drugs to children and youths). A nurse went through the exhibit and then shared her own experience with psychiatry: She had been castigated for refusing to assist a psychiatrist in performing electroconvulsive treatment (ECT) on a patient.

Psychiatry: An Industry of Death Exhibit and a film by the same name document the origins of psychiatry from the infamous Bedlam asylum in the Middle Ages to psychiatry's popularizing eugenics - a pseudoscience that held that people of "inferior" races should be eliminated. Bringing Solace and Help in the Aftermath of a Violent Act of Terror

Wherever they went, volunteers kept copies of the booklet with them in many different languages. Whether riding in a subway or tram, or stopping for a coffee, they shared the booklet with those they met. Following the directions in the first pages of the book, they contacted people, handed them a booklet with their own name written on the cover, and gave them a copy to read and others to hand to people they knew who could also benefit from reading it.

Hundreds of thousands of booklets have since been passed hand to hand in Germany.

A sampling of the stories they heard from those they reached out to with The Way to Happiness illustrates the power of this activity.

A volunteer handed a booklet to a woman who was on her way to visit friends in Switzerland. On her return to Munich, the woman told him that when she arrived, her friend "was very sad, her self-confidence was gone. She was really depressed. Then I read to her from the booklet. 'This booklet was meant especially for me,'" my friend told me." By the end of the visit, the friend was no longer hopeless. When she cried now, it was from happiness, in appreciation of what her friend had shared with her.

A volunteer received a letter from a person he'd give the booklet to. "I was very surprised by the content of the booklet as I had never read so much wisdom with such remarkable clarity," the man wrote. He asked the volunteer for 10 copies in German and Polish and five in English so he could pass them on to his friends.

"I wanted to give the booklet to a young man," said one of the volunteers, "but he told me 'You gave that to me before.' I asked, 'What did you like best?' and he was beaming when he answered 'That you don't have to worry if you play by the rules.'"

Another told the volunteer that he has his booklet at home and he reads it again and again to refresh himself on the concepts and apply them. He described what he learned from The Way to Happiness as "essential."

A woman wanted to help a friend who had given up after years of battling cancer. She gave The Way to Happiness to her friend, who paid her a surprise visit a few days later, her entire appearance changed. "This is the most beautiful book," the friend told her. "I totally changed my viewpoint. I decided to survive!"

A security officer at a shopping mall in Stuttgart told the volunteer that thefts in the mall had declined since they began distributing The Way to Happiness in the area.

In the first chapter of the booklet, Mr. Hubbard writes:

True joy and happiness are valuable.

If one does not survive, no joy and no happiness are obtainable.

Trying to survive in a chaotic, dishonest and generally immoral society is difficult.

Any individual or group seeks to obtain from life what pleasure and freedom from pain that they can....

Without too much trouble, using this book, you can help them survive and lead happier lives.

While no one can guarantee that anyone else can be happy, their chances of survival and happiness can be improved. And with theirs, yours will be.

It is in your power to point the way to a less dangerous and happier life.

He was also part of a team of 13 Eagle Scouts from western Washington state who built Eagle Trail on Mt. Rainier in 1924 - one of the first trails built by Eagle Scouts for the National Park Service, a tradition that continues today.

Thousands Gather for Easter Extravaganza at Church of Scientology in East Grinstead

SAINT HILL, U.K. /ScoopCloud/ -- Some 3,000 children, parents, and grandparents gathered at Saint Hill, the Church of Scientology estate in East Grinstead, for an enormously "egg-citing" Easter Egg Hunt. Families traveled from throughout Sussex, Surrey, and Kent for the fun-filled afternoon.

Greeting the children, the Easter Bunny was joined by popular children's book, cartoon, and film characters, from ⁠Winnie the Pooh and Tigger to ⁠Paddington Bear, Peter Rabbit, Rocky and Marshall, the Paw Patrol, ⁠Queen Poppy, ⁠Pikachu, ⁠Super Mario Bros., ⁠Princess Peaches, ⁠Princess Belle, and Cinderella.

Divided into four groups by age, children raced to collect 35,000 eggs strewn across the Saint Hill grounds. Baskets were topped up on departure, so everyone left with treats to spare.

Throughout the afternoon, nonstop entertainment and family fun included fairground rides from Lenny the Land Train, a petting zoo, donkey rides, bouncy castles, a bungee trampoline, a slippery pole game, sack races, kite flying, face-painting, arts & crafts, and a play area for the little ones. Selfie stations throughout the park and an indoor photo booth helped capture memories of the day.

Peter Rabbit is a favorite of the younger children at the Easter Extravaganza at Saint Hill in the UK.

Visitors expressed their appreciation: "Thank you for making it so special for the kids," said one family. Another noted that event staff made sure that older brothers and sisters didn't prevent younger kids from collecting their share. Whenever this came up, they ran to set out more eggs so there were plenty for the little ones.

Event organizer Mathilde Jensen thanked the many volunteers and the families who traveled from near and far to make the Easter Extravaganza a great success. "You all helped make it such fun."
