Mag Instrument (MAGLITE) Joins Forces with Pedestrian Safety Institute to Save Kids from Being Killed by Cars, launching The Safer Road Initiative

Almost 1,000 children a year are struck and killed by automobiles, and tens of thousands more are badly injured - TheSaferRoad.Com curriculum will save lives!

ONTARIO, Calif., July 20, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Last year, more than 7,000 pedestrians were killed when struck by cars (some 700 of those were children) and tens of thousands more were injured. MAGLITE® flashlights have been featured in kids’ entertainment over the years, most notably in the Nancy Drew books and, more recently, in the “Dora the Explorer” live-action film. The brand’s longstanding annual commitment to roadside traffic safety awareness led to the creation of the Safe Road Adventures K-5 Curriculum through Pedestrian Safety Institute (PSI), a roadside safety initiative that MAGLITE® partnered with several years ago to combat roadside fatalities.

Upon the request of Tony Maglica, Sr., the 96-year-old founder and inventor of the iconic MAGLITE® flashlight, the PSI team went to work and came up with Safe Road Adventures™, a free 5-week, 15-minute-a-week curriculum that teaches kids how to be safe around vehicular traffic through core principles lessons, workbooks, drawings, and an original “Cross The Road” song and dance with the animated characters of Maggie The Chick and her friend Sol The Duckling.

For participating schools, this curriculum will culminate in a school-wide assembly, cementing the principles of roadside safety in the minds of K-5 students. For teachers, this free curriculum is an easy add-on to their current lesson plans. For parents and homeschoolers, it is a fun weekly activity that will potentially save the lives of their children.

“Learning these critical skills will save children’s lives, and that’s why we are excited about the program,” said Tony Maglica, Sr. “Any time a child is killed or injured, it is devastating for the family, their friends, their school, and the community, and we are doing what we can by sponsoring this program of the Pedestrian Safety Institute to reduce the number of these tragic accidents.”

The program teaches kids the importance of looking before crossing the street with the “look left, right, left” drill and song, teaches the importance of making sure you are seen by oncoming traffic “see and be seen,” and being patient when crossing the street “1-2-3 wait for me.”

“The United States had more than 7,000 pedestrian deaths last year, and around 10% or 700 of those were children who were killed, and tens of thousands more were struck and injured, often severely,” said Lou Desmond, spokesperson for PSI. “It is fantastic that MAGLITE® has stepped up and sponsored this program to help children stay safe.”

The number of pedestrian deaths goes up when the days get darker and longer, and low visibility (darkness) is a huge factor; some 90 percent of traffic fatalities happen between the hours of dusk and dawn, according to a variety of government and private studies on the matter of pedestrian traffic deaths and injuries.

“As the maker of the iconic Maglite Flashlight, lighting the darkness and providing visibility is in our DNA,” said Maglica.

The curriculum is available for free at www.thesaferroad.com, and the staff at PSI are ready to assist any school that wants to implement the curriculum, which will officially be launched at the 22nd Annual School Safety Conference in Orlando, Florida.

Maglite, Pedestrian Safety Institute, and Additional Partners Promote Traffic and Pedestrian Safety During National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month

Pedestrian Deaths Continue to Increase Unabated Year After Year - 2024 on pace to set new record (GHSA)

ONTARIO, Calif., July 1, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Maglite® brand partners with the Pedestrian Safety Institute (PSI) to support traffic and pedestrian safety during one of the deadliest times of the year, the first week in July. The days surrounding July 4th are perilous and are routinely referred to as the deadliest driving days of the year, and pedestrian deaths make up approximately 20% of those fatalities.

Drivers struck and killed 3,304 people walking in the United States in the first half of 2024, down 2.6% from the year before but up a staggering 48% from 2014. The 3,304 people killed in the first half of 2024, as reported by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), would make it one of the deadliest years for pedestrians since they started keeping and reporting these statistics as usual darkness played a significant role with 82% of all fatalities in the first half of 2024 happening in the hours of dusk, darkness or dawn.

National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month

The alarming increase in the number of pedestrians killed in October, November, and December continues. These are the months when it gets darker earlier and stays dark longer. The Pedestrian Safety Institute recommends that people do everything they can to be seen at night, especially by carrying a flashlight.

In addition to the Pedestrian Safety Institute, Maglite is proud to have the American Paramedic Association, Citizens Behind the Badge, the U.S. Deputy Sheriffs Association, the lead economist of the Drucker School, Jay Prag (who did a seminal white paper on the costs of pedestrian deaths to the U.S. economy) and America’s Criminologist Dr. Currie Myers joining in this mission to illuminate the dangers facing pedestrians and solutions.

National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month was created by the Pedestrian Safety Institute to educate and urge drivers to use caution during this time of year.

“There are simple ways to reduce the number of pedestrian deaths due to pedestrian traffic accidents – pedestrians should carry a bright flashlight, wear reflective clothing, and be cautious, especially around fast-moving traffic,” said Tony Maglica, founder and CEO of Mag Instrument, Inc., manufacturer of the Maglite® Flashlight.

Eagle Scout Who Saved Family Home from Palisades Fire Honored by MAGLITE with its Maglite-Tough Civilian Hero Award

Andrew Grinsfelder built a DIY generator and pump system that drew water from the family swimming pool to save house from destruction in the firestorm

ONTARIO, Calif., March 5, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — With flames bearing down on their home from the catastrophic Palisades fire, Andrew Grinsfelder found no water coming to their house to save it from destruction. So, the Eagle-Scout used a generator and pump, attached a hose, and pumped water from the family swimming pool. He then got onto the roof and used the system he had just created to save the house by keeping the roof wet with the pool water. But his heroics did not end there. Disregarding his safety, he and his mother went through their neighborhood to assist others. For these acts, he has been recognized with the Maglite-Tough Civilian Hero Award.

MAGLITE
Image caption: MAGLITE®.

Maglite created this award to honor civilians who perform extraordinarily in challenging and even dire circumstances. It also reflects the values of toughness and reliability that underlie our products and the people who use them. The award’s first recipient was Gary Fishbone, who saved many people’s lives by leading them out of the World Trade Center Basement on 9/11 using a mini Maglite. Another Los Angeles teen honored was Hailey Morinico, who fought off a Momma Bear and her cubs menacing her dog in her Bradbury home in the San Gabriel Mountains of Los Angeles County.

“What Andrew did was extraordinarily brave and ingenious,” said Tony Maglica, Founder of Maglite. “We are happy to honor him, and I am sure this young man has a very bright future ahead of him.”

Andrew’s family has a long history with Maglites. “We’ve always had Maglite flashlights in our family as long as I can remember,” said Andrew. “They are very reliable, just about indestructible, so they are a great product for preparedness because bad things just don’t happen in daylight. We also appreciate that they are manufactured here in the USA so we can feel good about buying them and supporting American workers.”

MAGLITE® and American Paramedic Association Partner with Pedestrian Safety Institute, Promoting Traffic and Pedestrian Safety During July: The Deadliest Month of The Year

ONTARIO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Maglite brand partners up with the American Paramedics Association (APA) and the Pedestrian Safety Institute (PSI) to support traffic and pedestrian safety during the deadliest month of the year. According to the PSI, July maintains the highest rate of traffic related fatalities specifically with those of pedestrians. The days surrounding July 4th are particularly dangerous.

"Paramedics are those that treat the injured and see the deaths up close from traffic fatalities and want to urge people to be more cautious so that we can respond to less of these tragedies," said Andrew Stephen, Executive Director of APA. "Any time a paramedic is out of their vehicle, the goal is to be visible. Why should it be any different for pedestrians?"

Darkness and low-visibility play a significant role in pedestrian deaths. In fact, more than 70% of fatalities happen at dawn, dusk or night. Maglite and the American Paramedic Association are on a mission to illuminate the dangers of driving in low-visibility conditions to reduce deaths and injuries. In order to raise awareness, they are distributing press materials and alerting the media about the dangers pedestrians will face in the coming months, while also promoting National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month.

National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month was created by the Pedestrian Safety Institute with the goal of educating and urging drivers to use caution while driving during this time of year.

According to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), more than 6,700 pedestrians died in vehicle related accidents in 2020, up from 6,412 the year before. GHSA projected that pedestrian fatality rate increased nearly 20% as deaths climbed sharply despite people driving less during the pandemic. Preliminary data from 2021 indicates yet another increase in pedestrian deaths.

The Deadliest Days of the Year are Upon Us: 4th of July Holiday Sees Dramatic Spike in Traffic-Related Deaths Every Year

ONTARIO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- The deadliest days of the year for traffic related accidents are those surrounding the 4th of July holiday. Every year there is a dramatic spike in pedestrian related deaths and injuries during that time. According to AutoInsurance.Org, Independence Day averages 450 fatal crashes per year. On average 17 pedestrians are killed every day, with 74% of fatal incidents happening at night according to the Pedestrian Safety Institute. In response MAGLITE® and First Responders Children's Foundation (FRCF) are joining together to promote traffic and pedestrian safety awareness.

Pedestrian fatalities spiked in 2021 even though there was less traffic on the roads due to the pandemic. According to PEW, "Pedestrian fatalities grew in 27 states in the first half of 2020." Also, the Governors Highway Safety Association estimates that overall, "the pedestrian death rate rose 20% during that period. Nearly 3,000 pedestrians were killed, even though there was a 16.5% decrease in traffic."

Darkness and low-visibility play a significant role in pedestrian deaths. In fact, more than 70 percent of fatalities happen at night or at dusk or dawn hours. MAGLITE® and First Responders Children's Foundation are on a mission to illuminate the deadliest days of the year and to highlight the dangers of driving in low-visibility conditions to reduce deaths and injuries.

The Centers for Disease Control offer these tips to be safer as a pedestrian at night:

* Carry a flashlight when walking and wear reflective clothing

* Cross streets at designated crosswalks or intersections

* Walk on sidewalk instead of the road or walk on the shoulder facing traffic if a sidewalk or path is not available.

"Carrying a powerful light source will decrease the chance you are struck by a car and injured or killed this coming weekend and the rest of the year," said Anthony Maglica, Founder and Owner of Mag Instrument Inc. "I wish everyone a safe and happy Independence Day!"

Maglite and First Responders Children’s Foundation (FRCF) Partner to Promote Traffic and Pedestrian Safety

ONTARIO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Maglite and First Responders Children's Foundation (FRCF) are joining together to support traffic and pedestrian safety during the deadliest days of the year. According to the Pedestrian Safety Institute, July is the deadliest month of the year for traffic related fatalities including those of pedestrians. The days surrounding July 4th are particularly dangerous.

Darkness and low-visibility play a significant role in pedestrian deaths. In fact, more than 70 percent of fatalities happen at night or at dusk or dawn hours. Maglite and First Responders Children's Foundation are on a mission to illuminate the dangers of driving in low-visibility conditions to reduce deaths and injuries.

Maglite and First Responders Children's Foundation will be raising awareness by distributing press materials and alerting the media about the dangers pedestrians will face in the coming months, while also promoting National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month.

National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month was created by the Pedestrian Safety Institute to draw attention to this deadly time of year. Last year we saw one of the largest increases in vehicular fatalities, despite the significant decline in the number of miles Americans were driving as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The goal of this program is to increase awareness and urge people to use caution while driving during this particularly perilous time of year.

"There are simple ways to reduce the senseless number of deaths due to pedestrian traffic accidents and that is to carry a bright flashlight, wear reflective clothing and be cautious, especially around fast-moving traffic," said Tony Maglica, Founder and CEO of Mag Instrument, Inc., manufacturer of the Maglite® Flashlight.

Mag Instrument, the USA manufacturer of the MAGLITE Flashlight, Forms Partnership with First Responders Children’s Foundation

ONTARIO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Mag Instrument, the U.S.A. manufacturer of the MAGLITE® Flashlight, has formed a partnership with First Responders Children's Foundation. The initial kick-off of the partnership will be Maglite's sponsorship of the Foundation's annual Fun City Bowl. This is an event in remembrance of 9/11 that pits the New York City Fire Department against the New York City Police Department. Each department fields a football team and they will clash on the gridiron at MetLife Stadium.

Mag Instrument will produce limited edition MAGLITE® flashlights with the FRCF logo, a portion of the proceeds from the sales of these lights will be donated to FRCF in support of their mission. These lights will be available on https://maglite.com/.

"We are very pleased to be starting what I am sure will be a long and beneficial relationship with FRCF," said Anthony Maglica, Founder, Owner and CEO of Mag Instrument Inc. "I was born in New York City and spent many years there and know first-hand the great and heroic work both the NYPD and FDNY do and I hope we are supporting them and their children through FRCF for many years to come."

Sponsoring or attending the Fun City Bowl is a wonderful and personal way to show gratitude to our uniformed heroes and their families and to honor the 20-year commemoration of 9/11. Proceeds will support college scholarships and grants for first responder families who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Proceeds will also support the FDNY and NYPD football teams. Contributions to this event will have a direct and immediate impact on the children whose families have already sacrificed so much.

"We are thrilled to have Maglite join us to salute our first responder heroes," said Jillian Crane, President of the First Responders Children's Foundation. "The children of first responders embody resilience and hope for the future."

Maglite and FRCF will also be collaborating in June and July to promote National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month. July is the deadliest month of the year for traffic related fatalities (including pedestrians). Darkness and low-visibility play a deadly factor in these deaths and Maglite is on a mission to illuminate the danger.

ONTARIO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- In celebration of World Amateur Radio Day on April 18, Maglite and ARRL, the national association for Amateur Radio®, have announced they have formed a partnership based on the common mission of helping people be prepared for emergencies and to serve their communities in extreme situations such as natural disasters.

ARRL member-volunteers provide public service through the ARRL Amateur Radio Emergency Service® (ARES®), and by expanding the reservoir of trained operators and technicians in radio communications and radio technology. Mag Instrument is the leading maker of U.S.-manufactured high-quality flashlights that have a deserved reputation for performance, reliability and durability.

"ARRL is delighted that Maglite recognizes the service and skill of ARRL members. This partnership will help us introduce amateur radio to more people," says David Minster, NA2AA, ARRL CEO.

ARRL, headquartered in Newington, Connecticut, counts the majority of active radio amateurs in the US among its ranks. National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and MAGLITE Partner with Pedestrian Safety Institute to Promote National Traffic Safety Awareness Month

ONTARIO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) and Mag Instrument, U.S. Manufacturer of the iconic MAGLITE(R) flashlight, have partnered with the Pedestrian Safety Institute (PSI) to drive awareness of the deadliest days of the year for pedestrian and traffic fatalities in the Month of July.

July has been designated National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month because of the spike in accidents and fatalities during that time of year. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration a pedestrian was killed every 88 minutes in 2017, now that number is even higher.

6,283 pedestrians were killed in 2018, an increase of 3.4 percent from the previous year and the highest number in 30 years. A research paper by noted economist and author Jay Prag of the Drucker School finds that pedestrian injuries and deaths from accidents cost the United States economy more than $60 billion in 2018 alone. The vast majority of accidents and the highest percentage of deaths (up to 75% according to some studies) occurred at night with poor visibility and distracted driving being major contributing factors.

"Pedestrian deaths exceed those by drowning and motorcycle accidents; exceed deaths by food borne illness in the US; and exceed deaths by tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough combined. They even exceed the combined deaths in home fires, boating accidents, and commercial airline accidents each year. If pedestrian deaths were a disease, drug companies would be searching for a cure," said study author Jay Prag.

Roadway hazards abound for the first responder. Traffic volume and speed, distracted drivers and the additional distraction caused by a roadway incident leave firefighters and others working the scene highly vulnerable. As of June 8, 2020, 20 first responders have been struck and killed while working vehicle incidents this year. Dozens more have been injured, with an even higher number of near misses predicted to be occurring daily.

"The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation joins with other agencies in calling for all drivers to remain attentive, slow down when approaching an incident on the roadway and safely move over to give first responders the best opportunity to do their work and return home to their families," said Chief Ronald J. Siarnicki, Executive Director of the NFFF.

"Maglite is committed to safety and security and make our products with those reasons in mind. We urge people to stay safe and be particularly vigilant around this deadly time of year and of course - carry some form of illumination at night," said Tony Maglica, Founder and CEO Mag Instrument, Inc. "Our goal is to reduce fatalities and injuries that occur on our roads and highways in vehicle traffic accidents, especially among pedestrians, who are far likelier to be fatally struck by vehicles at night than in the daytime."

The mission of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Museum is to honor the fallen, tell the story of American law Enforcement, and make it safer for those who serve. Traffic safety for our officers is closely tied to pedestrian safety, and it is a priority to bring awareness of the topic to the nation. We are honored to be a partner in National Traffic Safety Awareness Month," said Marcia Ferranto, CEO of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

NFFF, NLEOMF, Maglite and PSI will be using various social media and other communication channels to promote National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month in July.

MAGLITE(R) is a founding sponsor of The Pedestrian Safety Institute and sponsored the research by Prag. The full research paper is available at the website: https://www.pedestriansafetyinstitute.com/.

Mag Instrument to Launch the MAGLITE Tactical Group (MTG) at SHOT Show 2020

ONTARIO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Mag Instrument is introducing the MAGLITE® Tactical Group (MTG) at SHOT SHOW 2020. The introduction of MTG coincides with the release of several new and enhanced products for tactical use for law enforcement and military including, the ML150LRS Compact Rechargeable System, MAG-TAC II, and Butt Stock Shell Holder.

The ML150LRS Compact Rechargeable System, a smaller version of the award-winning ML150LR, is estimated at 800 lumens, a beam throw of approximately a quarter of a mile, patented heat sink technology, excellent battery life, fast charging, and multiple-function sets and operating modes.

"These new products we know will be well-received in the law-enforcement community and at the SHOT Show 2020," said Anthony Maglica, Founder and CEO of Maglite.

The MAG-TAC II is a compact hand-held flashlight, CR123 powered and ergonomically designed with multiple contoured grooves to provide a firm grip for those using either the HARRIES HOLD or what legendary firearms trainer Bill Murphy has coined as the Rodgers/MAG-TAC Hold.

"Other tactical hand-held flashlights used by law enforcement have tactile surfaces to reduce chance of slippage, but the MAG-TAC II provides a whole new level of secure grip and control in high-tension situations," said Bill Murphy, President of Firearms Trainings Associates.

The newly enhanced MAG-TAC® LED Rechargeable System now with higher lumens and longer run time, is an advanced lighting tool powered by a high capacity Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) rechargeable battery engineered for long service life with a 2.5 hour charge time. Along with superior quality, performance, and reliability, the MAG-TAC® LED rechargeable flashlight comes with a detachable pocket clip and a USB powered mountable charging base. The aluminum body has an aggressive knurled design and stealth matte anodized finish and comes with either a crown or plain bezel.

Maglite Tactical Group is also introducing a tactical shotgun Butt Stock Shell Holder (BSSH). The BSSH will fit most of the popular shotgun models for both right- and left-hand use and provides quick access for up to 8 shells for fast and versatile reloads. "My preferred combat weapon has always been the shotgun and this accessory helps alleviate the one real tactical drawback to that weapon," said Murphy.

Also featured at the booth will be MAGLITE® Roadside Safety packs available in four (4) different models.

All of these products will be showcased at Maglite SHOT SHOW Booths 4029 and 30109.

The Deadliest Week of the Year for Pedestrian Injuries and Deaths is the First Week of July and Cost Approximately $63.8B Last Year

ONTARIO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- A just released research paper, by noted economist and author Jay Prag of the Drucker School, finds that the cost of pedestrian injuries and deaths from accidents cost the United States economy more than $60 billion in 2018 alone. According to the research, sponsored by Maglite, the vast majority of accidents and the highest percentage of deaths (up to 75% according to some studies occurred at night with poor visibility and distracted driving being major contributing factors).

"Pedestrian deaths exceed those by drowning and motorcycle accidents; exceed deaths by food borne illness in the US; and exceed deaths by tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough combined," said Prag. "They even exceed the combined deaths in home fires, boating accidents, and commercial airline accidents each year. If pedestrian deaths were a disease, drug companies would be searching for a cure. If we looked at it like other accidental causes, we would require something similar to smoke detectors, helmets, or life jackets. But, so far, it's just a problem without a policy for mitigation."

The research goes on to point out that the simple addition of carrying a flashlight to provide illumination of the pedestrian would likely save lives and injuries.

A significant majority of the accidents and fatalities especially at night are caused by a deadly combination of poor visibility and distracted driving according to the research paper. The deadliest period of the year is the first week of July and the summer months are overall the most dangerous for pedestrians and drivers alike. That is why the month of July is dubbed National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month.

"With vacations and people walking and playing in unfamiliar places and often less illuminated locations like beaches, parks and campgrounds and doing more at night because of the mild weather, the risk for deaths and injuries to pedestrians is much higher and we want people to be safe," said Anthony Maglica founder and inventor of the MAGLITE(R).

Maglite is a founding sponsor of The Pedestrian Safety Institute and sponsored the research by Prag.

The full research paper is available at the website http://www.pedestriansafetyinstitute.com/.

ONTARIO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- MAG Instrument, Inc., (MAG) has entered into a sponsorship agreement with The American Veterans Center and National Memorial Day Parade to provide resources for the organization and its programs. Among these efforts MAG will assist veterans to attend and be honored at the annual event.

MAG has agreed to fund the event with an initial cash donation and to design and offer for sale commemorative MAGLITE(R) flashlight models that will be branded for the event with a percentage of proceeds going to benefit the organization.

"I have deep feelings and great respect for all veterans and I am so pleased that we have been able to partner with The American Veterans Center in their efforts to make sure the greatest generation of World War II veterans are honored and that their sacrifice is not forgotten," said Tony Maglica, president, owner and founder of MAG Instrument.

Several surviving Tuskegee Airmen will attend the parade. The parade will also commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI.

This year's Grand Marshals are Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos (Army National Guard veteran), and Spencer Stone (U.S. Air Force veteran), the heroes who stopped the terrorist attack on the French train in 2015 and who recently portrayed themselves in Clint Eastwood's "The 15:17 to Paris." MAGLITE(R) is sponsoring their appearance.

Honorary Grand Marshal is famed actor and veterans' advocate Gary Sinise. Also joining the parade are Tony-winning actor Joe Mantegna, Miss America 2018 Cara Mund, and celebrity chef & U.K. Royal Navy veteran Robert Irvine, with musical performances by Trace Adkins, Jerrod Niemann, and Cassidy Daniels.

MAGLITE Declares July as ‘National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month’

ONTARIO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- MAGLITE wants motorists and pedestrians to be extra vigilant to save lives during the "vacation months" - July through October - which are the most dangerous months the year for traffic fatalities. So MAGLITE is launching a dedicated web page, and promoting a public education campaign, in observance of the newly minted National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month.

The goal is to reduce fatalities and injuries that occur on our roads and highways in vehicle traffic accidents, especially among pedestrians, who are far likelier to be fatally struck by vehicles at night than in the daytime.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data indicate that three of the four deadliest holiday weekends occur during the "vacation months" - Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day Weekends. And while alcohol-impaired driving is a factor in 29 percent of fatal crashes overall, the rate at which a drunk driver is involved rises significantly on those holiday weekends.

The "vacation months" are also a time for special caution at night. Despite traffic volumes being far lower at night than in the daytime, more than 1/3rd of all fatal crashes occur during the hours of dusk, darkness and dawn. And crashes at night are significantly deadlier than daytime crashes: In the hours from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., the rate of fatalities (per 1,000 crashes) is more than double the daytime rate, rising to nearly 4 times the daytime rate for crashes occurring in the after-midnight hours. And the later it gets, the more often alcohol plays a role: In after-midnight crashes, the likelihood of alcohol-impaired driver involvement rises to nearly 60 percent (compared to about 15 percent in the noon-to-3 p.m. time frame).

The NHTSA defines a pedestrian as anybody who is not in a vehicle - whether it's somebody just traveling in or near a road on foot or somebody who has gotten out of a vehicle on or near a road (e.g., because of a breakdown or a fender-bender). Pedestrians are especially vulnerable at night. Of the 5,376 pedestrians killed by vehicles in 2015 (amounting to 15 percent of all vehicle fatalities), 74 percent were struck at night (rising to 78 percent if you include dusk and dawn accidents).

When a car becomes disabled at night it is a much more dangerous situation then during the daylight hours due to the reduced visibility. A good flashlight with a traffic/safety wand (a plastic cone that fits on the flashlight and glows when the light is turned on), is an important safety item for anyone who drives at night, and even more important for anybody who walks along a road at night.

A series of statistics about the dangers faced by both drivers and pedestrians, and a series of life saving tips to avoid becoming a statistic of roadside dangers, is available at the National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness web page at http://www.nrtsa.org/.

Additionally, MAGLITE will be offering flashlights, traffic/safety wands, and mounting brackets through the http://maglite.com/ website.

The World Famous Brand of MAGLITE Flashlights Wins the 2017 National Hardware American Manufacturing Award for Best New Product

ONTARIO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Mag Instrument Inc., the world leader in flashlight technology, has been awarded the National Hardware American Manufacturing Award for Best New Product. The honor was given to the MAGLITE(R) brand for its new compact to mid-sized Traffic Wands that fit most popular MAGLITE(R) model flashlights (including the new MAGLITE(R) ML25 & ML50 series of mid-sized flashlights).

The Traffic Wands convert our most popular lights into illuminating high-visibility wands that can be used for signaling in emergencies situations or for traffic control / safety. They are also great for providing an area light source much like a camping lantern or candle.

"It is gratifying to win an award based on our being an American manufacturer and of course creating excellent products," said Tony Maglica, president and founder of Mag Instrument.

At the National Hardware Show MAG also introduced its brightest, farthest-reaching light ever -- the rechargeable MAGLITE(R) ML150LR(TM) which has generated intense interest in the trade and law enforcement. Despite its mid-size (C-cell format) dimensions, the ML150LR(TM) generates a stunning 1,000 lumens* and achieves a beam distance of over a quarter-mile. And thanks to multiple power settings and critical efficiency innovations, it can run for up to 75 hours on a single charge of its state-of-the-art Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery.

The American Manufacturing Awards are given only to companies that manufacture their products in the U.S.A. and focus on excellence in design, quality and innovation.

Mag Instrument is one of the only manufacturers left that still makes an entire line of machined-aluminum flashlights in the United States. Every flashlight is designed, engineered, developed and manufactured at MAG's World Headquarters in Southern California. Mag's iconic brand is legendary for its superior performance, quality, and durability.

The MAGLITE ML150LR LED Flashlight Rechargeable System – the Brightest, Farthest-Reaching Light We’ve Ever Introduced

ONTARIO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Mag Instrument, Inc., the world leader in flashlight technology, will introduce its most powerful flashlight yet -- the rechargeable ML150 LR(TM).

In achieving this performance milestone, Mag Instrument's research and development team started by tackling a long-known problem: An LED light engine must be kept cool to run efficiently, and poor heat dissipation is a serious performance-limiting factor with high-output LEDs. The solution, newly patented by Mag Instrument, is an integral heat-sinking technology that quickly drains heat from the LED.

According to Tony Maglica, president and founder of Mag Instrument, "The new MAGLITE(R) ML150LR(TM) is the first flashlight to embody this new heat sink technology, and the performance results are spectacular - a real breakthrough. But still, let's not forget optics. While many flashlight brands tout their high lumen outputs, that doesn't get you very far unless you also have the superior beam-forming optics needed to shape all that light into a versatile, focusable and effective beam that puts the light where the user needs it. A flashlight should be a powerful, manageable, durable, dependable portable light source that is long-lasting. This new flashlight checks all the boxes magnificently."

Other standard features of the ML150LR(TM) include:
• A versatile charging cradle that can be powered from a standard wall outlet or the 12-volt DC electrical system in a vehicle.
• Multiple power settings to control light output and battery burn rate.
• IPX4 water resistance.
• An advanced user interface with five available functions, custom-configurable to suit the individual user's preferences.

Check out the legendary MAGLITE(R) flashlights, known for their unsurpassed quality, performance and durability, including the ML150LR(TM). Learn more at: http://maglite.com/.
