Drug-Free World and the Church of Scientology Denmark Set Their Sights on ‘Winning the Race’ for a Drug-Free Country

COPENHAGEN, Denmark /ScoopCloud/ -- As record numbers, including Denmark's King Frederik, Queen Mary and their family, raced through the heart of Copenhagen in May on the city's annual Royal Run, Drug-Free World volunteers from the Church of Scientology of Denmark cheered them on while promoting active, drug-free living. They handed out thousands of fact-based Truth About Drugs educational booklets to runners and fans.

The volunteers were enthusiastic about the results they accomplished that day.

"We had so much positive feedback," said the campaign coordinator. "We handed a booklet to a teacher, who came back to talk to the volunteer and asked for 50 copies to give to her teenage students. Two others stopped their car to ask the volunteers for booklets to give to their friends who use drugs. Parents took the booklets and immediately started reading them to their children. So many people came by to thank us for what we are doing. There were stories like this throughout the day."

Although Denmark has fewer drug problems than many European countries, according to the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), young people throughout the continent "now have access to an increasingly wide range of substances and are using them in combination with alcohol." What's more, Euronews reports Danish teens as young as 12 are experimenting with and getting hooked on highly addictive and dangerous painkillers.

Drug-Free World volunteers are "racing" to reach youth before the dealers do. Young people presented with the facts about drugs are far more likely not to use them. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, UNODC, states: "For every dollar spent on prevention, at least ten can be saved in future health, social and crime costs."

Noting the role substance abuse plays in the disintegration of the social fabric, Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, "Research has demonstrated that the single most destructive element present in our current culture is drugs."

Foundation for a Drug-Free World was formed in 2006 to serve as a primary distributor of educational materials and to develop new materials to meet the challenge of continually changing drug trends. The Foundation has grown to a network of some 200 chapters around the world. Thanks to the support of the Church of Scientology and Scientologists, it provides the Truth About Drugs secular program and materials free of charge to anyone wishing to take action to address this urgent issue.

Culture Night at the Church of Scientology Helps the Curious Find Out More

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Church of Scientology set out a red carpet for Kulturnatten (Culture Night), welcoming hundreds to their home in the heart of Copenhagen. From the start of the city-wide event from 6 p.m. until midnight, guests toured through the Church's information center, its chapel, and rooms set aside for providing the religion's spiritual counseling (called auditing) and training.

They also saw the Office of L. Ron Hubbard-a facility in every Church of Scientology that honors the legacy of the religion's Founder and stands in testament to the Church being true to Mr. Hubbard's writings and ideals.

Scientologists were on hand to answer questions and refer visitors to Mr. Hubbard's books and courses where they could gain more in-depth information.

Many learned about the Scientology E-Meter and how it works with a "stress test." A shortened term for electropsychometer, the E-Meter is a religious artifact used as a spiritual guide in auditing. Others took personality tests to help pinpoint areas to concentrate on to improve their lives and relationships and were directed to services that would help them do so.

While touring, many commented on the care with which the Church restored the historical and architectural features of the neoclassical building that was dedicated by Scientology ecclesiastical leader Mr. David Miscavige in May 2017 at the grand opening of the Church of Scientology Denmark. The 40,000-square-foot edifice was constructed in 1796 after the "Great Fire" of Copenhagen destroyed the city's historic center.

Kulturnatten is an annual city-wide event that celebrates the diversity of Copenhagen by providing residents and visitors an intimate view of the city's museums, churches, exhibition halls, art galleries, humanitarian organizations and political and cultural institutions. This was the fifth time the Church of Scientology Denmark participated in Kulturnatten.

Danish Volunteers Say Learning About Drug Abuse Can Save Your Life

COPENHAGEN, Denmark /ScoopCloud/ -- Volunteers from the Church of Scientology of Denmark share the Truth About Drugs, raising awareness on the danger of drugs including overdose, the subject of International Drug Overdose Awareness Day, August 31.

Passionate about helping youth avoid the tragedy of drug abuse and addiction and the growing crisis of overdose deaths, Scientologists of Copenhagen take action with drug prevention.

For example, volunteers from the Church of Scientology Denmark brought their Truth About Drugs initiative to the kick-off of this year's Tour de France in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Through his research into the mind, spirit and life, Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard found drugs to be "the single most destructive element present in our current culture." And to take effective action against the damage of drugs to the individual and society, the Church of Scientology of Denmark sponsors a chapter of Foundation for a Drug-Free World.

Using the Foundation's Truth About Drugs initiative, volunteers educate youth and adults on what drugs are and what they do.

So earlier this summer, when the Tour de France held its initial stage or "Grand Départ" in Copenhagen, volunteers in their signature teal Truth About Drugs T-shirts joined fans gathered to give a send-off to the team, whose Jonas Vingegaard brought home the yellow jersey of the Tour's overall champion-the first Dane to achieve this honor since 1996.

Copenhagen is known as the world's most bicycle-friendly city, and the anti-drug cyclists from the Church of Scientology were perfectly at home with their banner and booklets, riding through the city to promote the truth about drugs.

Drug prevention has long been recognized as a vital service to communities, but never more than now, in light of drug overdose trends. The UN Office on Drugs and Crime states, "Prevention strategies based on scientific evidence working with families, schools, and communities can ensure that children and youth, especially the most marginalized and poor, grow and stay healthy and safe into adulthood and old age. For every dollar spent on prevention, at least ten can be saved in future health, social and crime costs." And the Office urges communities to "support drug abuse prevention based on scientific evidence as an investment in the wellbeing of children, adolescents, youth, families and communities."
