George Floyd Memorial Bust Released for 3D Printing by Sculptors Daniel and Rodman Edwards

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- A memorial bust of George Floyd will be available to everyone supporting the Black Lives Matter protests all over the globe. The George Floyd memorial bust, which is currently online for virtual viewing, can also be 3D printed at local libraries, maker spaces, colleges, and community networks of individuals with 3D printers. The memorial bust, modeled after a photo of George Floyd, which has been the source of many community murals, depicts a strong and gentle man. It was created by the father-and-son team of sculptors, Daniel and Rodman Edwards.

"While protesting is pivotal, there are plenty of other effective modes of activism," said Rodman Edwards, "we agreed that using our talents was the best way we could show our support."

3D printing is a service many local libraries are making available to the public and websites like 3D Printing Media Network provide listings of libraries with 3D printers as well as maker spaces. "There is an active 3D printing community and many of those people are staying at home and social distancing, unable to join the protests, but wishing to show their support - they can 3D print a memorial portrait of George Floyd at home, and post images or video of the bust for online vigils through social media," said Daniel Edwards.

Cory Allen Contemporary Art ‘Pop-up Church of Scientology’ Salutes Tom Cruise’s 25th Anniversary, Unveils Nude Shroud of Actor

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., July 29, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- A "nude shroud of Tom Cruise" will be unveiled as a tribute to the actor's 25th anniversary with the Church of Scientology. The silver anniversary celebration reaffirming his commitment will take place at a "Pop-up Church of Scientology" near its Clearwater headquarters as part of a larger exhibit of the actor. Commissioned curator and artist Daniel Edwards assisted Cory Allen Contemporary Art with exhibition arrangements scheduled for August.

Like the famed Shroud of Turin, the "Shroud of Scientology" is rectangular, measuring approximately 14x3 feet. It features a silverish image of a naked Tom Cruise, front and back view, with immaculately groomed genitalia on display, and his hands over the Scientology cross placed on his chest. The two views are aligned along the mid-plane of the body with both views of the head nearly meeting at the middle of the cloth. The cloth is Poplin, a strong fabric, softly textured, flame and wrinkle-resistant with a beautiful draping quality, used since the 15th century.

Along with the shroud, the Church of Scientology Silver Anniversary Medal for Tom Cruise will be displayed, of which images are now being released. "The medal has not yet been presented to Tom Cruise," said Allen.

"Radiocarbon dating will never rule out the Shroud of Scientology's authenticity. It exists as a document of Tom Cruise's faith in Scientology - a photo negative of the radiance of his soul. Though the City of St. Petersburg has not issued a special use permit, plans are the temporary church location will remain for the duration of the exhibition of the shroud. Other works of the actor and his connection to Scientology are expected to be on display. "It may be a rare occasion for the public to take part in the church's celebration and get a peek at a small portion of what their imagined vast art collection is speculated to look like," said Allen. It's unknown whether or not the Church of Scientology(R) will sanction the location beyond the present schedule.

"We are optimistic the controversy that surrounds the church will not keep visitors away. We want to assure people that this public event is a celebration of Tom Cruise and his 25 years of commitment, not a recruiting opportunity for The Church of Scientology," said Allen.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., June 18, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Inspired by environmental sustainability, Scott Durfee and George Medeiros of Spathose will showcase the latest installment of their work with palm spathe in their upcoming show "Spathe" at Cory Allen Contemporary Art's The Showroom next week.

"At first, Scott and I had to go out and look for spathe. Now, people are bringing it to us and even suggesting ideas for the pieces they've collected," said George Medeiros.

Spathe, the remnants discarded from palm trees and most commonly referred to as yard debris, has been the primary medium of Scott and George's work in many different forms over the last decade. Not only artists, they are activists in the environmental sustainability movement and hope to shed light on recreating beauty from what most people abandon simply as trash.

"We have a vision for every piece we do and the natural form of the spathe collected helps guide us to that piece," said Scott Durfee. "We found a way to create stand-alone to functional sculptures, which wearable sculptures has become our primary focus."

Initially creating stand-alone sculptures to be displayed for eyes only, Scott and George wanted more functionality from their work and began creating wearable sculptures. Their wearable sculptures, men's ties, purses, arm bands, necklaces, and now in their latest show, masks, have given them prominent success in the media for their distinctive vision.

Nude Statue of Dr. Huxtable Protests Cosby’s TV Hall of Fame Busts?

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. and ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Feb. 5, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- A teenage artist's protest against Bill Cosby for misrepresenting his TV characters and their messages is proposed as a nude statue of Cosby's Dr. Cliff Huxtable from "The Cosby Show" to "replace" the busts of the legendary performer displayed in front of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Halls of Fame in North Hollywood and Orlando. The Dr. Huxtable sculpture depicted with a saddened Fat Albert, created by young sculptor Rodman Edwards, is being unveiled by Cory Allen Contemporary Art (CACA).

The statue, titled "Fat Albert Cries for Dr. Huxtable," depicts Cosby's Dr. Huxtable nude, aged and out of shape, with Cosby's Saturday morning cartoon character Fat Albert blocking the area where Dr. Huxtable's genitalia would be, crying.

"Rodman captured Cosby's real character," said the artist's spokesman Cory Allen. "I think this is a more appropriate statue than the one depicting America's Dad at the TV Hall of Fame."

"Hall of Fame statues should not be exempt from reevaluation. Sometimes they need to be removed or replaced," said Cory Allen. "Joe Paterno's statue was taken down following the 2011 Penn State sex abuse scandal. Maybe the TV Hall of Fame and Disney should take note," added Allen, referring to Disney World, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences east coast location.
