WASHINGTON, D.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- The nonprofit "Faith In Peace" Concert Saturday, June 17, 2023 7:30-10pm will be held in the Sixth & I Synagogue in Washington, DC by the Concert for the Human Family (CFHF), with recently announced free ticket offers, says Light4America. The concert benefits multiple nonprofits including Rotary District 7620 (Washington, DC and parts of Maryland). The concert will have a strong emphasis on promoting shared values like the Rotary "Four Way Test," Juneteenth and Pride Month.

An unlikely friendship of two secular artists drives this musical outreach program of the US Episcopal Church. Kory Caudill is a self-described "Appalachian hillbilly" raised in Kentucky who plays blindingly fast and beautiful piano.

Anthony "Wordsmith" Parker is a Baltimore Hip-Hop artist, State Department cultural Ambassador, and nonprofit leader. Years ago their musical careers combined when they decided to team up to lead the eclectic mix of music that is the CFHF. This non-religious concert series features hip-hop, pop, rock, piano and country with a greater mission - to unite people of all faiths, races and political beliefs.

"This is music to heal the divisions of America," says Kory Caudill.

Rotary was a natural partner for the CFHF. Rotary International has long made promoting peace one of its core focus areas and increasingly has helped Americans promote peace at home, not just abroad. The concert will help tell the story of partner nonprofits like Citizen Connect of the Bridge Alliance and Rotary clubs. Country First, a pro-Democracy and pro-civility movement founded by former U.S. Representative Adam Kinzinger, will help boost the live stream performance.

The concert will celebrate Rotary District 7620's first openly gay outgoing District Governor and welcome the district's first female African American District Governor. The concert will share the story of Black Georgetown Foundation Inc, the DC nonprofit that supports the Mt. Zion and Female Union Band Cemetery, an African American cemetery saved from condo construction oblivion.

"This truly is a concert series I've been working towards since I was four years old," says Kory Caudill. "I used to watch Yanni - Live at the Acropolis every day and hope that I'd be able to create music like that someday. And now it's a reality. But on an even deeper level, I hope that this concert series allows me to build a platform to make the world my kids live in a better place. And I believe the message and the music these concerts deliver can do just that."

WASHINGTON, D.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- Light4America announced its "Fight Fire with Light" project begun November 20, 2021 to remember the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol with a citizen-led, nonpartisan, interfaith candlelight vigil the evening of January 6, 2022.

Vigil co-organizer David Searby said, "Let's unite peacefully as Americans on January 6 to say 'Never Again.' What better way to remember the divisive, horrific events of last January 6 than with a unifying, uplifting candlelight vigil? That's what we mean by 'Fight Fire with Light.'"

On December 20th, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced plans for "a full program of events" on January 6, 2022, including "a prayerful vigil in the evening." Responding to this news, Searby said "We applaud the decision for a broader effort to commemorate January 6. At the same time we believe there is a complementary need and an opportunity for a separate interfaith, nonpartisan event led by ordinary citizens to help heal the wounds of the Capitol attack. Ours will be a People's Remembrance event."

Co-organizer Corey Buckner said "We hope to create a model for silent, compelling witness this January 6 and every January 6 thereafter. Light4America welcomes people from all faith traditions - even nonbelievers."

Buckner and Searby last partnered on the racial justice dialogue project Trouble4Good. The rap artist, State Department cultural ambassador and nonprofit leader Anthony "Wordsmith" Parker also contributed his song writing and creative talents to that project. "At this special time of year, I'm happy Corey and David are supporting hope with Light4America," Parker said.

Organizers ask that you bring a battery candle to silently pray or meditate (the rules prohibit open flames). "We respect the law and our Capitol Police. Part of our January 6 program prayers will be to give thanks to the bravery and service of the Capitol Police last January 6," Buckner said.

Organizers will ensure compliance with all security requirements and will provide battery operated candles to the first 50 people who sign up to participate.

The 8 p.m. - 9 p.m. program (subject to change depending on Congressional plans) begins Lower Senate Park at 200 New Jersey Avenue NW (the park between Union Station and the US Senate) and includes interdenominational prayer and meditation, and singing "We Shall Overcome."

"We are singing because we shall overcome the hardness of heart and cynicism dividing Americans today," Buckner said.

Light4America will soon publish a cartoon from an Episcopal priest living in New York City and former animator with the educational video/short film series "SchoolHouse Rock." Schoolhouse Rock produced many memorable educational videos and film shorts over decades, including the iconic videos "Conjunction Junction" (1973) and "I'm Just a Bill" (1976).
