Celebrating Earth Day With a Venice Beach Cleanup and a Call for Greater Environmental Responsibility

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Even before Barbie and Ken entered the "real world," rollerblading in their dayglo outfits along its three-mile coastline, Venice Beach was a world-famous, iconic, great place to have some fun. But that wasn't the only reason the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre and its Hollywood Village Team selected Venice Beach for their April cleanup and their annual Earth Day activity.

Despite its glitzy exterior, Venice has a darker side. Although there are fewer homeless in Venice since a major push to clean out encampments in 2023, and while it's a great place for tourists and locals to spend an afternoon, Venice Beach is one of the L.A. neighborhoods where visitors and locals are urged to avoid walking or taking public transportation after the sun goes down. And they are advised to "keep their wallets close and their friends closer."

What makes a city or neighborhood dangerous? And is there anything one person can do to improve this and uplift their environment?

The Hollywood Village believes there is. Each month following their cleanups, they reach out to others one-on-one with The Way to Happiness - the common-sense moral code written by author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard.

This guide to better living is used by people of all cultures or creeds. It not only encourages individuals to embrace its practical moral compass, it also calls on them to set a good example and encourage others to improve the quality of their lives by understanding and using the book's 21 precepts, one of which is "Safeguard and Improve Your Environment."

So on Saturday, April 20, volunteers honored Earth Day with a cleanup of Venice Beach and promoted taking greater responsibility for the environment and contributing to a better quality of life by reaching out to hundreds of locals and visitors with The Way to Happiness and encouraging shops and restaurants to take copies to share with their clients and customers.

Hollywood Village monthly cleanups are a partnership between the Church of Scientology, The Way to Happiness Foundation and the Los Angeles Police Department. It is a community coalition of people of all faiths, ideologies and backgrounds, working together to take greater responsibility for their neighbors and neighborhood while making Hollywood, and in this case Venice Beach, beautiful, safe and clean and a great place to live and work in.

Spodak Dental Group Celebrates Earth Month with 11th Annual Beach Cleanup

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Spodak Dental Group team participated in their 11th Annual Beach Cleanup as part of Earth Month, with a goal to help rid waste on Delray Beach's local beach. The cleanup was held Saturday, April 6 at Delray Beach, South Tower 3, and a team of 67 volunteers picked up more than 200 pounds of trash.

It is estimated that a garbage truck's worth of plastic enters the ocean every minute. With plastic use expected to double by 2040, the team feels that it's imperative that continued action is taken to both remove as much waste from the community as possible, as well as educate community members on the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling.

"The beach cleanup is more than just picking up litter. It's about creating awareness in our community. It's about partnering with other local organizations that have an Earth-conscious mindset, and it's about sharing the importance of taking care of the planet with our younger generation," said Dr. Craig Spodak, general dentist at Spodak Dental Group. "We are proud to continue our commitment of taking the very best care of our community, and look forward to continuing to do so every chance we get."

Spodak Dental Group partnered with Trashy Mermaids, a Delray Beach-based volunteer organization that is passionate about protecting the beach and its inhabitants. The beach cleanup event was part of the Great American Cleanup, which is a project of Keep America Beautiful. The Great American Cleanup events during the month of April include a massive removal of litter and illegal dumping from public spaces, including neighborhoods, roadways, waterways, parks, schools, and more.

Spodak Dental Group Spends 43rd Anniversary At Their Ninth Annual Beach Cleanup Event

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- Spodak Dental Group celebrated the company's 43rd Anniversary by giving back to their community and cleaning up the Delray's beach. The Ninth Annual SDG Beach Cleanup was held Sunday, June 2 at the Delray Beach South End, South Tower 5, and more than 60 pounds of trash was removed by more than 75 community members.

The amount of waste in the world's oceans is increasing at a rapid pace, with much of it cluttering the seabed and clogging up the stomachs of sea creatures. For ocean lovers, Spodak Dental Group's Annual Beach Cleanup event brings an opportunity to ensure Delray's waterways and oceans stand a fighting chance against increasing numbers of debris and waste.

"The beach cleanup is not only about cleaning the beach, but also about creating awareness in our community," said Dr. Craig Spodak, general dentist. "By partnering with other Earth-conscious local companies, we are able to increase our reach and make a great impact."

Spodak Dental Group partnered not only with the Palm Beach County Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, but also other local businesses including Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Delray Beach Water Sports, Caloosa Water Wear, Pizza Rustica, Delivery Dudes and Saltwater Brewery. Together the team was able to collect 120 cigarette butts, 50 bottle caps, 20 plastic bottles, 20 plastic straws and plastic utensils and two yards of fishing line/rope, among other items.

The statistics speak for themselves. More than 1 million plastic bags are used worldwide every minute, with estimates pointing toward 160 million metric tons ending up in the ocean by 2025. This is the ninth event that Spodak Dental Group has hosted and the team is dedicated to cleaning their local beach for many years to come.
