Beyond Dents and Scratches: Body Shops Bear Witness to Preventable Tragedies

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- The mangled frame of a silver sedan gleams under the overhead lights in a local body shop, a testament to human capacity for error. Replacing crumpled fenders and shattered windshields is a body shop's stock in trade, but the owners know these broken cars aren't just metal and plastic. They represent shattered dreams, lost limbs, and families ripped apart. They also suspect that all too often, these wrecked vehicles were the result of driving drugged or drunk. So when volunteers from Bridge Publications approached body shop owners and managers about displaying sets of The Truth About Drugs from the drug education initiative supported by the Church of Scientology, it not only piqued their interest, it gave them a way to save lives.

Their suspicions are borne out by the U.S. Department of Transportation, which states that some 31 percent of all U.S. traffic crash fatalities involve drunk drivers. And a recent Canadian study following the legalization of nonmedical cannabis found a 94 percent increase in the rate of traffic injuries involving the use of this drug.

One of the books published by Bridge Publications, Inc., City of Commerce-based publisher of the nonfiction works of best-selling author L. Ron Hubbard, is Clear Body: Clear Mind. In the book, Mr. Hubbard wrote: "Research demonstrates that the single most destructive element present in our current culture is drugs."

In 2023, concerned about the recent spike in drug overdoses in Los Angeles, Bridge launched a local drug prevention campaign. Last Thursday, January 18, they visited auto body shops, tire shops, and other automotive businesses on nearby East Olympic Boulevard with sets of The Truth About Drugs in Spanish and English. These illustrated booklets contain information about the physical and mental effects of the most commonly abused drugs.

Shop owners and managers placed displays of these booklets on their counters for customers to take. Many shared personal stories of friends or relatives struggling with drugs and were happy to have something they could do to help.

Bridge Publications Volunteers Share the Truth About Drugs With Popular East L.A. Food Trucks to Help Customers Make Smart Choices

COMMERCE, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Not only is the East Los Angeles crime rate higher than the U.S. average, the crimes are often drug-related. To help local vendors and residents cope with this problem, volunteers from Bridge Publications Inc., publisher of the nonfiction works of Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard, reached out to area food trucks and food stands this week to further extend their drug prevention campaign to the community.

Bridge volunteers brought sets of Truth About Drugs booklets to local businesses. The booklets explain in detail the harmful effects of drugs on the mind and body. They are provided free of charge by Foundation for a Drug-Free World, a nonprofit organization supported by the Church of Scientology. The initiative is dedicated to empowering youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free.

Vendors were happy to take sets of the booklets and make them available to customers. Several of them told the volunteers they often see signs of drug abuse but didn't know what they could do about it. These booklets gave them a way they can now do something to help.

One food truck owner shared her own story with the volunteers. She is clean now but was on drugs in the past and knows very well the consequences of drug addiction and the importance of drug education.

Another asked the volunteers for additional booklets because she knows educating young people about drugs can save lives.

A security guard at a shopping center asked the volunteers for booklets. He often has to chase away people who are doing drugs in the parking lot. Now he can do something to help them.

Bridge began its drug prevention campaign last year to do something effective in the face of spiking overdose deaths in Los Angeles. In addition to distributing Truth About Drugs materials, Bridge is making drug education seminars available to businesses, schools and community groups. Reaching Out with Drug Prevention to Help Make 2024 a Safe, Healthy and Happy Year in Los Angeles

COMMERCE, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Volunteers from Bridge Publications Inc., publishers of L. Ron Hubbard's nonfiction works, have launched their drug education and prevention campaign for 2024. They are visiting shops and parks and sharing the drug education booklets of the Truth About Drugs campaign with anyone wishing to help take effective action against drug abuse and addiction.

They visited shops and businesses on Whittier Boulevard and reached out to families spending Saturday afternoon together in Belvedere Park. In just a few hours they handed out some 2,000 copies of The Truth About Drugs.

These booklets help people understand the hazardous effects of the most commonly abused drugs so they can make educated decisions about drugs and alcohol use.

The volunteers are inspired in this activity by Mr. Hubbard's research on the subject as contained in Clear Body Clear Mind, one of the books Bridge publishes, which states, "Research demonstrates that the single most destructive element present in our current culture is drugs." It further states that drugs "can put people into a condition that not only prohibits and destroys physical health, but which can prevent any stable advancement in mental or spiritual well-being."

The UN Office on Drugs and Crime has found that drug education is one of the most effective and viable methods of addressing drug abuse and its harmful effects. According to their website, "For every dollar spent on prevention, at least ten can be saved in future health, social and crime costs."

In 2023, with spiking overdose deaths in Los Angeles, Bridge began a campaign to reach out in Commerce and nearby L.A. communities with the Truth About Drugs, the drug education and prevention initiative supported by the Church of Scientology. The Church makes these materials available free of charge to anyone wishing to use them.

"It is important to us to take an active role in tackling this urgent issue," says Lucia Winther, public relations officer of Bridge Publications, Inc. Winther has spearheaded this campaign and plans to continue distributing materials and organizing drug education seminars and training. "We welcome anyone wishing to take action to join us," she says.

Publisher of L. Ron Hubbard’s Nonfiction Works and the Mayor of Commerce Ring in the Holiday Season with a Special Dinner for Local Seniors

CITY OF COMMERCE, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- For seniors, living alone or far from loved ones, the holidays, once joyful, can be a very lonely time. To remind residents of TELACU Gardens and TELACU Manor Senior Apartments how important they are to the community, Bridge Publications, publisher of the nonfiction works of author and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard, and City of Commerce Mayor Hugo Argumedo held a holiday banquet for the residents.

The mayor and Bridge volunteers wanted to let the residents know how much they value their many contributions to their families and society. The Church of Scientology provided the luncheon, and residents dined together, renewing old friendships, forging new ones, and celebrating the holiday season together.

Each resident was also presented with a copy of The Way to Happiness, the common-sense guide to better living that is one of Mr. Hubbard's most popular books. Residents were touched by the thoughtfulness of the mayor and Bridge Publications and expressed their appreciation for the delicious dinner and the gift of the book.

The outreach was intended to counter the ageism many of these residents experience. It was inspired by a precept of The Way to Happiness: "Try To Treat Others As You Would Want Them To Treat You."

"In all times and in most places, Mankind has looked up to and revered certain values. They are called the virtues," wrote Mr. Hubbard. "They have been attributed to wise men, holy men, saints and gods. They have made the difference between a barbarian and a cultured person, the difference between chaos and a decent society."

Mayor Argumedo and the Bridge volunteers sought to incorporate this precept into their holiday initiative by treating the residents with the virtues of consideration, compassion, friendliness, respect, dignity, admiration, and love.

In the introduction to The Way to Happiness, Mr. Hubbard wrote:

"You are important to other people. You are listened to. You can influence others.

"The happiness or unhappiness of others you could name is important to you.

"Without too much trouble, using this book, you can help them survive and lead happier lives.

"While no one can guarantee that anyone else can be happy, their chances of survival and happiness can be improved. And with theirs, yours will be."

The City of Commerce, known as the Model City, is home to some 13,000 residents. Another 60,000 work or patronize more than 1,800 Commerce businesses. City of Commerce Mayor and Bridge Publications Team Up to Make Thanksgiving Special for Local Seniors

CITY OF COMMERCE, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Knowing the loneliness some elderly residents feel as the holidays approach, City of Commerce Mayor Mr. Hugo Argumedo, his wife Jessa, and volunteers from Bridge Publications Inc., publisher of the nonfiction works of author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard, provided more than 200 Thanksgiving meals to local seniors.

They served the meals to residents of two apartment complexes: Rosewood Senior Apartments and Gage Senior Citizen Apartments. The Church of Scientology prepared the meals which were served by volunteers. Mayor Argumedo also held a raffle for the residents and presented holiday gifts to the winners. He wanted local seniors to know how much the City of Commerce values the men and women of their generation.

Those organizing and volunteering for the initiative believe the elderly should be acknowledged for a life lived in devotion to families, work, the community, and, as in the case of veterans, their service to the country. Yet many local seniors have to spend weekends, birthdays and other special occasions alone. And the feeling of loneliness is often greater over the holidays.

The volunteers set up Thanksgiving dinner for the residents in common rooms where they could enjoy a delicious meal in the company of friends. For those unable to leave their apartments, volunteers delivered the meals to them at home.

It meant a great deal to 90-year-old Rosita that the mayor and a local business created Thanksgiving dinner for Gage Senior Citizen Apartments residents. It touched her that the community wanted to make Thanksgiving special for her and the other seniors at the complex.

Bridge staff also presented each senior with their own copy of The Way to Happiness by Mr. Hubbard - a simple guide they can use to increase joy during the holiday season and yearlong.

Mayor Argumedo thanked Bridge for its partnership in this event and the many other programs Bridge volunteers organize throughout the year that help Commerce live up to its name as the Model City.

Publisher of the Works of L. Ron Hubbard Gets a Jump on the Holiday Season by Sharing the ‘Not So Secret’ Secret of Happiness

EAST LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- In "My Philosophy," one of his most popular essays, author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, "I like to help others and count it as my greatest pleasure in life to see a person free himself of the shadows which darken his days."

And what better way to help Los Angeles youngsters and their families experience the joy of the season than by sharing The Way to Happiness at the East L.A. Sheriff's Department Halloween event at the city's Belvedere Park. Hundreds of children trick-or-treated at the booths set up by local nonprofits and took part in the costume contest.

The joy of the season and throughout the year depends in no small part on how people treat others and the countless other choices they make each day. Noting a dramatic decline in morality and the consequent spike in broken families, crime and despair, in 1981 Mr. Hubbard authored a common-sense moral code-a guide to better living intended for use by people of all faiths or none. With more than 139 million copies distributed in 118 languages, The Way to Happiness holds the Guinness Record as the world's most translated non-religious book.

Established in 1981 in Los Angeles, California, Bridge Publications, Inc. is publisher of Mr. Hubbard's nonfiction works. Bridge Publications staff volunteer with humanitarian and social betterment initiatives supported by the Church of Scientology to join forces with other businesses, nonprofits, law enforcement and civic and community leaders to help create a safe environment where local businesses and families can prosper and experience the innate happiness that is available to everyone.

As Mr. Hubbard wrote in the introduction to The Way to Happiness:

"While no one can guarantee that anyone else can be happy, their chances of survival and happiness can be improved. And with theirs, yours will be.

"It is in your power to point the way to a less dangerous and happier life."

Halloween-Themed Event Helps Bring the Truth About Drugs to At-Risk Youth

EAST LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Volunteers from Bridge Publications, Inc., publishers of the nonfiction works of Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard, joined the nonprofit Soledad Enrichment Action at a Halloween resource fair to reach at-risk youth and their families. They used the Truth About Drugs, the initiative of Foundation for a Drug-Free World, a nonprofit, international drug-education and prevention program supported by the Church of Scientology and Scientologists.

With drug overdose on the rise among youth, educators and parents are looking for effective answers. Soledad Enrichment Action (SEA) is a leading provider of services to high-risk, gang-affected individuals and families. In September, Bridge volunteers organized a workshop for SEA interventionists on how to reach youth on this vital subject. The workshop empowered them to help youth make the informed decision to live drug-free.

So when planning their resource fair, SEA invited the volunteers to set up a booth to reach youth and their families with the Foundation's Truth About Drugs booklets.

"Drug prevention is vital to ensure that children and youth grow healthy and safe," said one of the SEA staff, thanking the Bridge volunteers for their participation in the event. Another asked if they could arrange drug prevention seminars for the youth they serve.

Since 1972, Soledad Enrichment Action has been helping high-risk youth avoid the pitfalls of gangs, drugs and violence by providing guidance and support services. It was founded by a group of mothers whose families were affected by violence and who met regularly in the basement of Our Lady of Soledad Church, from which they took their name.

In his research into the mind, spirit and life, Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard found that "the single most destructive element present in our current culture is drugs." This inspired the Church and Scientologists to initiate the Truth About Drugs, a secular program through which they have worked for decades to empower millions with the truth about drugs.

To read or download the Truth About Drugs booklets, watch brief videos, or take free online drug education courses, visit the website of Foundation for a Drug-Free World at www.drugfreeworld.org.

Publisher Helps Fight Crime With the Truth About Drugs

COMMERCE, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- City of Commerce and East Los Angeles businesses and entrepreneurs are concerned about crime. That's one reason that City of Commerce-based Bridge Publications Inc., publisher of the nonfiction works of Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard, shares the Truth About Drugs with the community. Truth About Drugs is a drug education and prevention campaign supported by the Church of Scientology.

Last Month, Los Angeles County authorized $15.6 million to combat the increase of "smash-and-grab" thefts targeting Los Angeles County. Trying to run a business can be challenging in the best of times, and insecurity takes its toll on entrepreneurs already struggling to recover from the economic effects of the pandemic.

There is a close relationship between drug use and crime. In fact, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime has found: "For every dollar spent on prevention, at least ten can be saved in future health, social and crime costs."

So, on a recent afternoon, Bridge volunteers brought sets of Truth About Drugs booklets to local businesses. The booklets explain in detail the harmful effects of drugs on the mind and body. The materials are provided by Foundation for a Drug-Free World, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free.

The shops and businesses they visited appreciated the outreach of the Bridge volunteers and their concern for the community. At a local pharmacy, an employee asked for more sets of booklets for her colleagues, who immediately started reading and discussing the material.

When the supervisor of a local nonprofit that provides career and business opportunities for youth learned that the volunteers offered free drug-prevention seminars, she asked them to arrange one the following week for the young adults they serve.

The manager of a fast-food restaurant said, "The work you are doing is very important. I see the bad effects of drugs on people in this neighborhood all the time. It is vital to raise awareness about the subject and promote drug prevention."

A paralegal who manages a legal office specializing in immigration was very receptive to the materials. Aware of the drug issues facing today's youth, she asked for more boxes of booklets to give to her own children.

Bridge staff distributed some 2,000 booklets and will follow up with delivering requested drug-prevention seminars. They intend to continue their efforts to improve the health and safety of the community by educating people on the truth about drugs.

To read or download these booklets, watch brief videos or take free online drug education courses, visit the website of Foundation for a Drug-Free World at www.drugfreeworld.org.

Bridge Publications Helps Truckers Stay Safe

COMMERCE, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Volunteers from Bridge Publications Inc. are extending their drug education and prevention outreach to the city's truck drivers - the men and women who support the economy of the city with their work. Bridge is doing so with the Truth About Drugs, the drug education initiative supported by the Church of Scientology.

The City of Commerce, like its name, is a hub of international commerce. Trucks travel from across the country, as well as from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, to pick up and deliver goods to businesses and railyards in this vibrant area. It is not unusual to see fleets of semitrailers driving down the main streets.

Trucks move 73 percent of the nation's freight, and truckers pay $29 billion dollars a year in state and federal fuel taxes. Truckers are vital to the economy of the United States, but with that responsibility comes inherent stress: pressure to get to their destination on time, to keep moving, and to stay awake. In a society where drugs are promoted as the solution to these kinds of problems, truck drivers are at risk of putting their lives - and the lives of others - in danger.

A meta-analysis of previous studies on the subject showed 27.6 percent of truckers reported using drugs, with the most common drugs being cocaine and methamphetamine. In another meta-analysis, a statistically significant number of truckers had harmful patterns of alcohol consumption.

Bridge Publications Inc., publisher of bestselling author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard's nonfiction works, was alerted to this issue by a former trucker, Pedro, who now owns his own business in Commerce not far from Bridge's manufacturing plant.

Earlier this year, Bridge volunteers invited Pedro to join them in a neighborhood cleanup. He has continued to work with these volunteers in other community outreach projects. Pedro later confided to the volunteers his concerns that former colleagues' lives had been adversely affected by alcohol abuse. He asked if they would be willing help local truck drivers with their drug education and prevention initiative. The volunteers took Pedro's suggestion and reached out to local drivers at a popular truck stop on Washington Boulevard.

The drivers appreciated the Bridge volunteers sharing Truth About Drugs educational materials. The booklets contain the unvarnished truth about the most commonly used drugs and their harmful effects on the body and mind. They handed out more than a thousand booklets to truckers, who expressed their appreciation and took booklets on the road with them.

"This is a very important job that you're doing," said one of the drivers. Another asked for information on cocaine and was given "The Truth About Cocaine" booklet.

The manager of a neighboring body shop told the Bridge staff that he's seen truckers he believed were abusing drugs and alcohol. He took sets of the booklets to display and to pass out to his customers.

"Some of these guys drink alcohol and they become a liability," a front desk clerk of a tire shop said. "They are like an accident waiting to happen." She thanked Bridge for bringing her these materials and kept several booklets to give out.

Pedro thanked the Bridge volunteers who shared the positive feedback they received from their outreach. Pedro appreciated their following through on his suggestion and he kept booklets to hand out to his own customers.

Scientology Publishing House Recognized as a ‘Good Corporate Citizen’

COMMERCE, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- In its annual review of corporate environmental standards, Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts recognized Bridge Publications, publisher of the nonfiction works of Scientology Founder and bestselling author L. Ron Hubbard, as a "good corporate citizen" for the sixth year running. Bridge Publications Inc. achieved this acknowledgment through its compliance with wastewater discharge limits and its maintenance of environmental equipment.

Environmental responsibility was incorporated into the planning and establishment of the Bridge Publications manufacturing plant, with wastewater minimization only one of its components.

To preserve Scientology religious scriptures, an Archival Project, established at Bridge Publications, uses metal plating on copper and etching on stainless steel to safeguard Mr. Hubbard's recorded lectures with corrosion-resistant metal long plays. These processes produce wastewater containing chemicals and metal. Through special treatment that removes these hazardous contaminants from the water, Bridge maintains 100 percent compliance with environmental standards. But this is only one of the ways Bridge reduces its environmental footprint.

One of the world's first all-digital on-demand publishing and manufacturing facilities, Bridge Publications incorporated care for the environment in every facet of its establishment.

With hundreds of different paper types and sizes used in most printing facilities, even the best of them discard as much as 25 percent of their paper, wasting ink in the process. Bridge was designed to minimize paper use, leaving very little trim waste on the edges and between the pages of its printed materials. By maximizing efficiency through the very design of the plant, Bridge consistently reduces paper waste from 25 percent to 5 percent, which they recycle.

"We are very proud to receive this recognition," says Lucia Winther, Public Relations Director at Bridge Publications. "We not only promote environmental responsibility and sustainability in our manufacturing practices, we also work with community partners and leaders to raise awareness of its importance and carry out community cleanups. This is in keeping with The Way to Happiness, one of the books of Mr. Hubbard that we publish. A common-sense guide to better living, the book includes the precept 'Safeguard and Improve Your Environment,' which is a guiding principle for our organization."

Scientology Churches Around the World Celebrate the Anniversary of Dianetics Today

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Published May 9, 1950, "Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health" burst onto the scene, creating an international phenomenon that continues to this day. In Scientology Churches, Missions and groups on six continents, May 9 has a very special meaning. It marks the day that the first edition of "Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health" rolled off the press. And it was only two years later that L. Ron Hubbard founded Scientology, the world's youngest major religion.

"Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health" created a whirlwind of excitement. It soon climbed to the top of the New York Times bestseller list and remained there for 26 consecutive weeks.

Its effectiveness inspired immediate and dramatic response. Those reading the book connected with each other, teaming up to use this new technology. With 750 Dianetics groups cropping up in the United States, and many more across the English-speaking world, a new movement had begun.

Scientology Churches and Missions and Dianetics groups deliver Dianetics "auditing" - a term that comes from the Latin "to listen."

And with the book now in 50 languages, making the technology available to more than 90 percent of the world's population, Mr. David Miscavige, ecclesiastical leader of the Scientology religion, released a series of films, "How to Use Dianetics," along with a new Dianetics Seminar. These make it easy for anyone to put Dianetics to use in their life.

Dianetics helps people free themselves from nightmares, unreasonable fears, upsets, insecurities and psychosomatic illnesses, with results like these:

Grant experienced panic attacks so severe that the left side of his face would go numb, making him feel almost paralyzed. He received a Dianetics session and by the time it was over, "the panic was gone," he says, "and I have never experienced a panic attack since."

When her son was born prematurely with respiratory distress syndrome from immature lung development, Cindy found herself unable to cope. After she and her husband brought their son back from the hospital, Cindy would wake up every time it got quiet, terrified her child had stopped breathing. "I was flooded with irrational waves of guilt, haunted by the question, why did it happen to me?"

Dianetics helped her through her emotional suffering. "I was able to separate out the pain from the memory and remove its negative influence over me and overcome these unfounded fears. I finally slept through the night for the first time since the delivery." And she was able to enjoy every moment with her son. "Rather than worry, I found peace."

Page's dad paid a visit to the doctor because he wasn't feeling right and came home with the news that he had terminal cancer. The shock of his death soon after was devastating to her. "I am so grateful for the Dianetics counseling I received when he died," she says. "I still miss him and love him, but afterward, the unbearable sense of loss was gone."

And the rewards of helping another using Dianetics is every bit as worthwhile. "I have salvaged marriages and helped people overcome drug addiction," says Melissa. "Auditing others gets you in tune with people. When you make one person happy it causes a ripple effect."

The Church of Scientology invites everyone to experience what L. Ron Hubbard made available on May 9, 1950, with the release of "Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health," where he wrote, "You are beginning an adventure. Treat it as an adventure. And may you never be the same again."

Visit a Scientology Church or Mission to enroll on the Dianetics seminar.

"Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health" may be ordered from a Church of Scientology, the book's publisher Bridge Publications, through Amazon.com and other bookstores.

Or for more information, visit the Scientology network and watch the films "What is Dianetics?" Dianetics: An Introduction and "The Dianetics of Grief." The Scientology Network is available on DIRECTV Channel 320 and streams at Scientology.tv, on mobile apps and via the Roku, Amazon Fire and Apple TV platforms.

Since launching with a special episode featuring Scientology ecclesiastical leader Mr. David Miscavige, Scientology Network has been viewed in 240 countries and territories worldwide in 17 languages.

Bridge Publications, Publisher of the Works of Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard, Wins Manufacturing Leadership Award

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ — The Manufacturing Leadership Council of the National Association of Manufacturers presented Bridge Publications Inc., publisher of the nonfiction works of author and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard, with their coveted ML100 Award at a Virtual Awards Gala to honor manufacturing excellence, announced the Church of Scientology International today.

Mr. Hubbard’s books and lectures of Dianetics and Scientology stand as the largest body of information ever assembled on the mind, spirit and life. And in a year where COVID-19 cut people off from friends, family and life as they knew it, Bridge Publications made it possible for Scientologists and thousands new to the religion to continue or embark on a journey of spiritual growth despite restrictions.

Manufacturing Leadership Council’s decision to present its awards gala remotely this year underscores the unique challenges the general public and manufacturers in particular faced from the COVID-19 pandemic. To recognize companies that submitted projects directly tied to pandemic recovery and response, the Council originated the “Creators Respond Honor Roll.” So, for 2021, not only did Bridge Publications Inc. win its 12th Manufacturing Leadership ML100 Award, the organization was also featured on the honor roll for its project: “Bridge Manufacturing-International Response.”

“With the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, most countries published restrictions that closed churches of all denominations,” says Camila Gonzales, Bridge Publications Director of Public Relations. “Fortunately, Bridge Publications and all Scientology Churches have an Extension Course program. We were an integral part of making it possible for thousands of Scientologists to progress through their studies despite stay-at-home orders. And many thousands more who were interested or curious and new to Scientology had the opportunity to learn and benefit from Mr. Hubbard’s wisdom in the comfort of their homes.”

The primary goal of the project Bridge submitted to the Manufacturing Leadership Council was to provide Extension Course study materials. Despite the pandemic, this made it possible for Scientologists to continue their spiritual progress through the study of Dianetics and Scientology books and lectures. It also enabled those interested in finding out about Scientology to do so despite government restrictions and regulations closing houses of worship, including Scientology Churches and Missions in many countries, for the better part of the year.

“As soon as the pandemic struck, our Churches reached out to Scientologists and encouraged them to take advantage of their time at home by studying Extension Courses,” says Gonzalez.

Bridge Publications contacted suppliers to arrange raw materials as orders for Extension Course packs began flooding in. Where Bridge would normally produce an average of 1,500 Extension Course Packs per month, this rapidly increased to 7,000 per month, with individuals from 69 countries requesting Extension Course packs in 17 languages.

Through their in-house digital printing and full binding facility, they shipped study materials to the homes of those ordering directly from Bridge and those placing orders through local Scientology Churches, Missions and groups. Bridge has a longstanding policy of shipping within 24 hours of any order, and despite the spike in demand, they managed to continue to fill Extension Course orders on time.

Those studying these courses report that progressing on Extension Courses helped them make it through the pandemic. They found themselves able to cope and thrive when everything else seemed to be shutting down.

“When I make my Extension Course a part of my daily and weekly life, everything starts to require a lot less effort,” wrote one Extension Course student. “It is like oxygen for me as a spiritual being,” wrote another. “I’m finding answers to questions I’ve had my whole life,” was another person’s feedback on the value of the Extension Course.

The second goal of “Bridge Manufacturing – International Response” was to help those living and working in their community, City of Commerce, California.

In response to the pandemic, the Church of Scientology compiled and produced educational booklets to help people understand the best practices for preventing the spread of COVID-19. The Church of Scientology International Dissemination and Distribution Center, also located in Commerce, produced more than 7.5 million copies of these booklets.

“This is our home,” says Gonzalez, “and it was very important to our staff to be able to help local residents and those working nearby make it through the pandemic safe and well.”

Throughout May and June 2020, Bridge staff went door-to-door in the neighborhood providing booklets to residents. They also placed boxes of booklets on the counters of 281 essential businesses, and police and fire departments, where customers or visitors were invited to take copies for themselves and their friends and families.

“All our staff members are very proud of winning this ML100 award and especially for our being included in the Manufacturing Leadership Creators Respond Honor Roll,” says Gonzalez.

Manufacturing Leadership Council is a division of the National Association of Manufacturers, which developed the Manufacturing Leadership Awards to honor manufacturing companies and leaders that are shaping the future of global manufacturing. Award winners are selected by a panel of expert judges.

Prior to the release of the Dianetics and Scientology Basics Books and Lectures in early 2007, under the direction of Scientology ecclesiastical leader Mr. David Miscavige, Bridge Publications was established in the world’s largest exclusively digital print house-a 276,000-square-foot facility stretching a full city block. All facilities, from administrative offices to manufacturing and distribution, are located under the same roof. The operation is dedicated to making L. Ron Hubbard’s works accessible everywhere.
