Upholding Commerce’s Reputation as a Model City

COMMERCE, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- City of Commerce, known as the Model City, is home to many diverse businesses. Being mainly industrial, some areas tend to accumulate trash left over from businesses' disposing of waste. Observing debris along the on-ramps leading to the I-710 Freeway, City of Commerce Mayor Mr. Hugo Argumedo decided to do something about it. He partnered with Bridge Publications, the all-digital in-house printing facility for the nonfiction works of author L. Ron Hubbard, and together they organized a cleanup of the Northbound I-710 Washington Blvd. on-ramp. The City of Commerce and Caltrans arranged the tools, safety equipment and trucks.

On a sunny spring morning, volunteers shoveled, picked up and hauled away all the trash from the site. The team collected and disposed of 58 bags of waste, tree branches and a car bumper.

In addition to the mayor and Bridge Publications staff, volunteers included:

* Youth from the Explorer Program of the East L.A. Sheriff's Department

* Members of the City of Commerce Evening Lions Club

* Leader of the El Sabor de Michoacán

* Staff from Golden State Connections

A special acknowledgement to Sgt. Ibarra and his colleague from the East L.A. Sheriff's Department who kept everyone safe.

All involved are thanked for their contribution to keeping Commerce, the Model City, clean.

One of the books published by Bridge is The Way to Happiness, a common-sense moral code that can be used by people of all cultures and creeds to map the way to a happier and better way of life. Precept 12 of the book inspires Bridge volunteers who take part in this and other cleanups: Safeguard and Improve Your Environment.

Amy, who was looking for something that could "heal the soul," responded to the Scientology Super Bowl ad suggesting she should satisfy her curiosity by simply walking into a Church of Scientology. She took part in a Dianetics seminar, where people new to the subject partner with another person to learn the basics of Dianetics and use it with each other.

"I was nervous at first," she says. "But I followed the instructions, and that made me feel more comfortable and confident." She felt "really in tune" with the woman she was helping.

Then, when it was her turn, Amy says, "I was able to address an incident that happened when I was 17 years old. Instead of avoiding it, I felt all the emotions and pain as if it were happening now. I expressed emotions in session that I never allowed myself to feel, and I realized that this really works. And now that incident has been erased. I am no longer afraid to talk about it." And the incident no longer has any hold over her.

For Bikash, before he began the Dianetics Seminar he felt as though he was "at the end of the line. I sometimes hated myself. I had a lot of problems that I just didn't know how to deal with."

This took a toll on his marriage. "I couldn't explain how I felt," he says, describing his relationship with his wife as "a real roller coaster."

"The Dianetics Seminar made me more effective in controlling my emotions and solving the issues I faced," he says.

Before using Dianetics, the way he would deal with a situation "used to make me feel just horrible," he says. "But now, I can look at that same situation, and while it hasn't changed, how I view it has changed." And bottom line, "I am so much happier."

Warren had no idea he still had grief about his grandmother. "I was honestly surprised that I cried, but it was a great feeling to release my emotions on that," he says. "I felt a great weight lift off me." He can now talk about his grandmother "without experiencing the pain of her loss."

But Warren also says it was gratifying to help guide the man he was partnered with, using Dianetics procedure, "so he could feel relief."

Before her Dianetics Seminar, Cristina used to think "everything bad that happened was my fault." Now she knows that's not true "and I don't feel guilty anymore."

The publication of Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health on May 9, 1950, unleashed "a full-scale explosion," as newspapers of the day described it.

Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of L. Ron Hubbard Way in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- State and city officials joined Scientologists, friends and community leaders from across Los Angeles in East Hollywood April 9 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the dedication of L. Ron Hubbard Way, named for the Founder of the Scientology religion.

The street is home to the Church of Scientology Los Angeles and advanced Scientology Churches that serve parishioners from across America, and is a crossroads for the world's largest community of Scientologists.

City and state officials who took part in the original dedication were among the crowd celebrating the milestone.

Those attending included Nate Holden, who served four years in the California State Senate and 16 years on the Los Angeles City Council. Also participating was Keith Moze, General Manager of Streets L.A.; Sylvia Cunliffe, then L.A. City General Services Manager; and Baydsar Thomasian, district consultant to State Senator Maria Elena Durazo. Ms. Thomasian was senior deputy to District 13 Councilmember Jackie Goldberg in 1997.

In preparation for the street's dedication 25 years ago, the Church renovated the entire city block from Sunset to Fountain. Hundreds of volunteers participated in the project which included undergrounding all electrical wiring, pouring new sidewalks, landscaping the tree-lined avenue, and creating the street itself by laying 150,000 bricks.

Ms. Thomasian, who helped coordinate the project between the Church and L.A. City Council, said, "It is great to be here to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the creation of L. Ron Hubbard Way. Few other staffers here today can say they were actually part of the creation and I'm honored to say I was." She presented the Church with a California flag flown over the California State Capitol in Sacramento on behalf of State Senator Durazo.

In addition to serving as a home to Scientologists from across Greater Los Angeles, L. Ron Hubbard Way is also a community hub, hosting festivals, markets, and family fun days for East Hollywood families. Case in point, that same afternoon, L. Ron Hubbard Way featured the Church's annual Spring Fair, open free of charge to the community. It included an artisan market and some of L.A.'s favorite food trucks. And for the kids, there were pony rides, face painting, a petting zoo, and other games and treats.

Starting the Year Right With a Book to Help Bring Happiness

It is clear that the moral decline is affecting more and more people and ruining lives.

Some react to this situation with "this would never happen to me." Others, who may be aware of their own or their friends' or families' potential for disaster, may think "but what can I do?" But the odds are not in the favor of those leaving their future happiness to chance.

A safer and more constructive way to live life is to take effective action. As stated in "The Way to Happiness":

"Your own happiness can be turned to tragedy and sorrow by the dishonesty and misconduct of others.

"I am sure you can think of instances of this actually happening. Such wrongs reduce one's survival and impair one's happiness.

"You are important to other people. You are listened to. You can influence others.

"The happiness or unhappiness of others you could name is important to you.

"Without too much trouble, using this book, you can help them survive and lead happier lives.

"While no one can guarantee that anyone else can be happy, their chances of survival and happiness can be improved. And with theirs, yours will be."

A Holiday Celebration at the Church of Scientology Honoring the Diversity of Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- A popular holiday celebration dating to 16th century Mexico graced the streets of East Hollywood for the first time this year. The music and traditional costumes of Oaxaca transformed L. Ron Hubbard Way in East Hollywood in a procession that was a melding of two cultures.

La Posada, which celebrates the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem, includes singing and dancing in a unique blend of cultures. Musicians from a Oaxacan community band led the procession. The Church of Scientology Los Angeles hosted the celebration as part of its commitment to honor and help preserve the traditions and culture of the many diverse communities that call Los Angeles home.

In the 1580s, Spanish friars adopted an Aztec winter solstice holiday that celebrates the birth of Huitzilopochtli, the god of the sun and war. They built La Posada on this tradition to convert indigenous people to Catholicism.

Posada means a lodge or inn in Spanish. Posadas are held for nine days from December 16 through December 24. Also known as "Los Peregrinos, San José y la Virgen María," (the pilgrimage of Saint Joseph and the Virgin Mary) participants reenact the experience of Mary and Joseph seeking lodging on their trip to Bethlehem.

"I grew up in a town in Oaxaca with this music and these traditions, but I have not participated in a Posada for at least 30 years," said one guest. "We love our traditions, and we want to share this love with Angelinos and with all in this beautiful country who have been so generous to our people."

The Church also hosted a celebration this year of Día de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, organized by members of the Los Angeles Quilana community of Oaxaca, Mexico. And leaders of the L.A. Oaxacan community took part in a convention in October 2021 in support of the human rights of Oaxacan and other Mexican and Central American indigenous people at the Church of Scientology of the Valley in North Hollywood.

The Church of Scientology Los Angeles is an Ideal Scientology Organization dedicated in April 2010 by Scientology ecclesiastical leader Mr. David Miscavige. Celebrating Freedom and the Founding of the Church of Scientology in the Nation’s Capital July 4, 1955

Located at 1812 19th St NW, just over a mile from the White House, it was from his office on the second floor that Mr. Hubbard served as Executive Director and coordinated its activities and churches on five continents.

In dedicating the Church of Scientology National Affairs Office in Washington, D.C. in 2012, Mr. David Miscavige, ecclesiastical leader of the Scientology religion, highlighted "freedom" as essential element in Scientology Scripture and made it clear that Mr. Hubbard selected that date and location for inaugurating the new international headquarters quite deliberately. "Just as this nation was founded upon the principles of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, so too those principles are woven into the very fabric of our Scripture," he said.

Mr. Miscavige pointed out that the ideals enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, whose adoption is celebrated on Independence Day, are incorporated in the Creed of the Church of Scientology, published in 1954. The Creed affirms:

That all men of whatever race, color or creed were created with equal rights.

That all men have inalienable rights to their own religious practices and their performance.

That all men have inalienable rights to their own defense.

That all men have inalienable rights to conceive, choose, assist or support their own organizations, churches and governments.

That all men have inalienable rights to think freely, to talk freely, to write freely their own opinions and to counter or utter or write upon the opinions of others.

And that no agency less than God has the power to suspend or set aside these rights, overtly or covertly.

In an essay published in August 1954, L. Ron Hubbard wrote:

"We are extending to you the precious gift of freedom and immortality-factually, honestly.

In that same essay, he credits America with having "kept wide the doorway" for this accomplishment "by retaining religious freedom."
