SecuGen Hamster Pro 20 Receives STQC Certification for Indian UID Project

Hamster Pro 20

SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 14, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- SecuGen Corporation is pleased to announce that its new, FAP 20 and PIV certified Hamster(TM) Pro 20 fingerprint reader has been certified by the Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification (STQC) Directorate, an office of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) of India. The Hamster Pro 20 is available immediately for sale in India through SecuGen India.

STQC certification of biometric devices is a requirement for implementing biometric authentication in India's Unique Identification (UID) project. This certification scheme provides confidence that certified devices are reliable, safe, and secure and meet the project's requirements. One goal of the UID project is to issue every Indian resident a unique identification number, known as an Aadhaar number, linked to the resident's demographic and biometric information, which they can use to identify themselves anytime, anywhere in India, and to access a host of benefits and services.

The Hamster Pro 20 is an ultra-compact, highly precise, rugged and yet very affordable fingerprint reader. Also certified is the companion OEM version of this fingerprint reader called U20. SecuGen has been selling fingerprint readers, OEM sensors and related products in India for more than a decade. The new product was engineered as a high quality yet low cost device with the Indian marketplace in mind.

"Our engineering teams, including our colleagues at SecuGen India, have all worked very hard in pursuit of the STQC Certification," stated Dan Riley, SecuGen's Vice President of Engineering. "We have a great deal of experience designing products for the Indian marketplace. SecuGen has been paying careful attention to the unique requirements of India. We believe that this is the best way for us to satisfy the needs of our partners in India and around the world. STQC Certification is the latest confirmation of this approach."

Aniket Jathar, Managing Director of SecuGen India said, "The Hamster Pro 20 will change the competitive landscape in India. Early indications are that this product really hits the target when it comes to the requirements of the UIDAI. The small size and affordable pricing is exactly what our Systems Integrator, Software Vendor, and OEM partners are asking for. The Hamster Pro 20 is a perfect fit for many of the large procurements that are currently underway here."

Won Lee, CEO of SecuGen added, "We are honored to have the Hamster Pro 20 receive this prestigious certification. Our goal has always been to manufacture high quality fingerprint products at affordable prices. This is in the best interest of our partners around the world and ultimately is what end-users are looking for. Obtaining STQC certification is the most recent and very welcome confirmation of this strategy."
