Mark Ladd Named 2019 PRIA Carl R. Ernst Founders Award Winner

Ernst Founders Award winner by Property Records Industry Association (PRIA).

Ladd is the sixth recipient of the Founders Award, which was established by PRIA in 2005, to recognize proven, unique leadership and achievement in resolving issues in the property records industry. The award was presented during a ceremony at the PRIA 2019 Annual Conference, which was held August 26-29 in Colorado Springs.

"Having been a Register of Deeds early on in my career, I am all too aware of the challenges facing the property records industry and, as such, have been deeply committed to helping the industry address these challenges through technology," Ladd said. "I'm truly honored to have been honored by my peers for these efforts and proudly join the ranks of the select few that have received the Founders Award."

Given his work with PRIA, the American Land Title Association (ALTA) and the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) via MISMO, there are very few, if any, aspects of the real estate industry that haven't benefited from Ladd's efforts and leadership over the course of his more than 20 years of experience. Before joining Simplifile in 2011 as Director of Channel Sales, Ladd acted as a consultant for the PRIA on its Technology Committee. As part of his role with PRIA, he also worked as the vice-chair of the Residential Governance Committee for the Mortgage Industry Standards Maintenance Organization (MISMO).

In 2014, Ladd was elected as the president of PRIA and in 2015, he received the Certified MISMO(R) Standards Professional Designation, the only MISMO certification program available for individuals within the mortgage industry. As the immediate past-president, Ladd continues to serve as an ex-officio member PRIA's Board of Directors and is also involved in the Uniform Law Commission's Revised Uniform Law on Notarial Acts (RULONA) Enactment Committee.

Westerly Becomes First Municipality in Rhode Island to Adopt E-recording

Simplifile Joins the Arbor Day Foundation’s Time for Trees Initiative

Maryland Now E-recording Statewide with Simplifile

Simplifile Completes West Virginia’s First E-recording Transaction

The transaction was completed on Friday, Aug. 24 in Monongalia County, W. Va., which is the first recording jurisdiction in the state to begin e-recording land documents.

"Until recently, West Virginia had been one of the few remaining holdouts on e-recording adoption. That has now changed," said Simplifile president, Paul Clifford. The closing attorney for the transaction submitted the documents via Simplifile's E-recording platform to the Monongalia County recorder's office on Thursday, Aug. 23. Due to the nature of West Virginia's recording process, the verified and recorded documents were returned to the closing attorney the next business day. This represents a significant improvement over Monongalia County's previous, paper-based process.

As Monongalia County Clerk Carye Blaney told The Dominion Post: "Once Simplifile accepts the document, it's moved over to our portal. We review it, and once we record it, Simplifile deposits the money we need into our records and deals with the submitter. We don't have to worry about bounced checks. We don't have to worry about not having the proper amount for the recording. All those issues are solved because it's handled before it ever gets to us ... We've been working on this for quite some time. Most other states in the nation have been electronically recording, and have been for years. West Virginia has been a lone holdout, so we've really been working to get ourselves into a position to do that."

Simplifile, Title Guaranty Complete First-Ever E-recording of Hawaii Land Court Document

HONOLULU, Hawai /ScoopCloud/ -- Simplifile, a leading provider of real estate document collaboration and recording technologies for lenders, settlement agents, and counties, today announced that Title Guaranty has completed the first-ever e-recording of a Land Court document in the state of Hawaii using Simplifile's E-recording service. The document, a mortgage, was submitted into the public record on July 26 in a process that took only minutes.

Unlike most U.S. states, Hawaii does not have a county recording system. Instead, mortgages, deeds, and other real property documents are recorded through the State of Hawaii Bureau of Conveyances, which manages two systems of recordation: the Regular System and the Land Court System. While Hawaii has allowed e-recording of Regular System documents since 2010, last week's achievement marks the first time a Land Court document has been recorded electronically in the state's history.

Paper-based recording can be especially cumbersome in Hawaii, where documents have to be air-mailed from neighboring islands to the Bureau of Conveyances on Oahu at great time and expense. The move to an electronic process represents a major step up in recording security, speed, and savings for Hawaii's document submitters and recorders.
