American Gem Society Asks Jeweler Moms What Fine Jewelry Trends to Expect This Mother’s Day

LAS VEGAS, Nev., April 29, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Fine jewelry has long been one of the most beloved Mother’s Day gifts. It’s personal, lasting, and chosen with love. To help find the perfect piece, the American Gem Society (AGS) turned to three AGS member jewelers who are also moms, asking them what trends they are noticing for Mother’s Day.

“This Mother’s Day, we anticipate jewelry trends that feel personal, effortless, and meant to be lived in. Clients are gravitating toward pieces with meaning; birthstones, engravings, or symbolic designs because they tell a story rather than just making a statement. There’s a strong move toward ‘quiet luxury’—beautifully made gold pieces, soft organic shapes, and subtle gemstone accents that she can wear every single day,” says Alexis Padis, CGA, Padis Jewelry, San Francisco, Walnut Creek, and Napa, CA. “Color is also having a moment—emeralds, sapphires, and unique stones set in modern ways feel fresh, joyful, and incredibly giftable for moms who want something a little different.”

“What we’re seeing for 2026 isn’t just a shift in style, but a shift in mindset. Mother’s Day jewelry is moving away from overtly sentimental, one-time gifts toward a more style-driven approach with pieces that become part of her daily uniform,” says Courtney Sivard, CSA, B.C. Clark, Oklahoma City, OK. “Think refined, enduring staples: sculptural gold, modern pearls, classic dress watches, and diamond essentials that feel effortless yet intentional. It’s less about personalization and more about creating a signature look that’s practical for her life but polished enough to elevate it.

“We are trending with multi-shape diamonds, particularly mixed bezel and prong settings in earrings, necklaces, and rings that are perfect for anyone who loves a little edge with their elegance,” notes Sarah Person, CG, Exclusively Diamonds, Mankato, MN.

In addition to these experts’ trend tips, here are a few practical guidelines for anyone shopping for fine jewelry this Mother’s Day:

  • Think long-term wear. The best gifts are pieces she’ll reach for every day, not just on special occasions. Look for styles that complement what she already owns and fit her actual lifestyle.
  • Ask questions. A trustworthy jeweler welcomes questions about metal quality, gemstone grading, and care instructions.
  • Consider her lifestyle. The most cherished jewelry is jewelry that gets worn. Think about whether mom favors understated everyday pieces or loves to make a statement, then shop accordingly.
  • Don’t overlook the presentation. For a gift this meaningful, the moment of giving matters. Ask your jeweler about gift presentation options.
  • Shop with an AGS credentialed jeweler. AGS credentialed jewelers must recertify annually in order to maintain their credential. They are trained to guide, not pressure, and to help you find the right piece for your budget and her taste.

Pearls, Moonstone, and Opal: The ‘Cloud Dancer’ Gems to Know for Valentine’s Day

LAS VEGAS, Nev., Feb. 6, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — On the heels of Pantone’s 2026 Color of the Year, Cloud Dancer, the American Gem Society is sharing Valentine’s Day inspiration featuring luminous white gemstones like pearls, moonstone, and white opal, timeless pieces that feel modern, romantic, and easy to wear long after February 14.

“White gemstones are resonating with jewelry lovers because they strike that rare balance: classic and current,” said Katherine Bodoh, CEO of the American Gem Society. “They’re romantic in a way that’s more personal than predictable, and they’re easy to wear long after Valentine’s Day.”

For shoppers who want their gift to feel thoughtful (not last-minute), white gemstones offer beauty with built-in symbolism. Their light tones pair with nearly everything, and their subtle shine creates that “wear it every day” factor that makes a gift feel truly loved.

THREE GEMSTONES TO CONSIDER FOR VALENTINE’S DAY

Pearls: timeless, with a modern edge
Pearls have moved far beyond “formal.” Right now, they’re showing up in fresh, easy styles that feel modern and confident, from simple studs to statement strands. Pearls also come with a story people connect with: they’re formed over time, layer by layer—exactly the kind of sentiment that fits Valentine’s Day. The draft also notes that many pearl farms support healthy water ecosystems, and pearls are produced without mining, making them a compelling option for shoppers who want to consider sustainability, too.

Moonstone: a dreamy glow you can’t fake
Moonstone is known for its soft, inner shimmer, a luminous effect that seems to move as the stone catches the light. It’s romantic, flattering, and distinctive without being flashy. Moonstone also has a long history in jewelry, and vintage or antique moonstone pieces can add another layer of meaning for gift-givers who love a little story (and a more sustainable way to shop).

White opal: calm on the outside, color underneath
White opal has a smooth, milky base with flashes of color that appear as it moves—like a secret only the wearer gets to fully enjoy. It’s a beautiful choice for someone who loves jewelry that feels personal and a little unexpected.

A QUICK CARE NOTE FOR SHOPPERS

As with all fine jewelry, it helps to choose the right piece for the wearer’s lifestyle. Pearls and opals can need a bit more care than diamonds, and a trusted American Gem Society jeweler can help shoppers choose settings and styles that suit everyday wear.

This year, whether you’re celebrating a longtime love, something new, or treating yourself, consider a softer take on Valentine’s Day. To find the perfect piece near you, shop with a professional, credentialed American Gem Society jeweler. Visit https://americangemsociety.org/findajeweler to find an AGS jeweler near you.

Want a Sparkling Valentine’s Day? Follow These Six Jewelry Buying Tips

LAS VEGAS, Nev. /ScoopCloud/ -- Whether you are staying at home this Valentine's Day, or plan to have a romantic evening out, the American Gem Society (AGS), a nonprofit association dedicated to consumer protection, has some advice to ensure the jewelry you buy adds extra sparkle to you and your loved one's celebration.

1. Have a general idea of the kind of jewelry you want to buy? If it's a gift, what does the recipient like? Consider the type and color of metal, the gemstone, setting, as well as the type of piece. Would this person want a watch, bracelet, necklace, or ring?

2. Shop with a credentialed, professional jeweler who is a member of an organization with a strict code of business ethics, such as AGS. An ethical and knowledgeable jeweler will share facts about the gemstone in your jewelry, like whether it is enhanced or treated, natural, or a laboratory-created gemstone.

3. Do your research online but visit the store so you can see the piece in person. You might love the way something looks on the screen, but when you see it up close, you may feel differently. Maybe it's the color or sheen of the metal or how the setting looks. Get an up-close look before making a significant purchase.

4. Ask about the return policy. If the gift misses the mark, you'll want to return it!

5. If a discount seems too good to be true, it might be. You've heard of the practice where a retailer inflates a price by a certain percent, then advertises it at a slightly lesser percent? AGS members must adhere to standards of business conduct that strictly prohibit this practice.

6. Buying diamonds? Ask for a diamond grading report from an independent laboratory. A thorough grading report covers all 4Cs-cut, color, clarity, and carat-so that the jewelry buyers know and understand the quality of what they are purchasing. AGS founded AGS Laboratories as a nonprofit diamond grading laboratory that shares its mission of consumer protection. This mission ensures jewelry buyers will receive an unbiased opinion on the quality of their diamonds.

-- Well-cut diamonds sparkle in candlelight or low light. Set the mood with the right lighting and watch the diamond sparkle on your loved one.

"Beatrice Shipley was a trailblazing businesswoman who believed in and helped establish GIA and AGS and our shared mission to protect consumers. At the core of this mission is educating the next generation of jewelers, and we are honored to do this together with AGS, our sibling organization," said Susan Jacques, GIA president and CEO. "Congratulations to Rachel Burazer! I look forward to her continued success as a GIA alumni and member of AGS."

"Earning this award demonstrates that patience, determination, and loving what you do can get you anywhere in life," said Ms. Burazer. "I am so grateful to have this help to advance in my career and invest in my future. What an honor it is to represent my company and Beatrice Shipley! Thank you."

Born in Northeast Ohio, Rachel moved to Chicago, where she obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design. After working in the food and beverage industry and at Bloomingdale's, Rachel realized that she needed to combine her hospitality experience with a more refined retail environment. She first worked at an AGS member store, Steve Quick Jeweler, where she was given the knowledge and trust to accelerate on her own. With that experience and success, the transition to Argo & Lehne was smooth. Currently, Rachel acts as a mentor to her colleagues, a liaison with many vendors, and an employee trusted by the customers.

Both GIA and AGS were founded in the 1930s when Robert and Beatrice Shipley cashed in their savings to create two organizations with the goal of educating jewelers, professionalizing the industry, and creating a guild for these jewelers to join.

Fall Trends to Transition into Winter

LAS VEGAS, Nev. /ScoopCloud/ -- Jewelry lovers, the American Gem Society has a message for you: this is your season. This fall, some of the most stand-out fine jewelry you will see comes from members of the American Gem Society, a community of jewelry professionals dedicated to protecting the jewelry-buying public through a high standard of ethics and ongoing education.

According to Katherine Bodoh, CEO of the American Gem Society and AGS Laboratories, these five fine jewelry trends will provide the added detail you need this season to complete your ensemble. These pieces are also instant classics that can easily transition to winter, spring, and beyond. Be Zoom ready with any of these trends.

Medallions: this summer favorite is not slowing down. You can wear medallions alone or layer them or go bold and dazzle with medallion earrings and bracelets. Medallions stun in gold, but silver tones also make an unforgettable impression.

Restored Jewelry: do you need a jewelry makeover? Your local American Gem Society jeweler can work wonders on heirloom jewelry. Diamonds and gemstones can be removed from a ring or any piece of outdated or worn/well-loved jewelry and transferred to a modern piece of wearable art for your ears, neck, wrist, or fingers. If you can think it, they can most likely create it. A number of AGS designers also update older pieces by using recycled diamonds, other precious gemstones, charms, and much more to create contemporary designs.

Big Links, Long Chains: an extra-long chain is sophisticated and helps complete a look, especially one with higher necklines. Plus, let's face it: it also means no fiddling with a finicky clasp. This fall's styles feature big links for a bold statement, an homage to eighties jewelry. Slip it over your head, wear some diamond stud earrings, add a classic watch, and you are good to go. Or go short: choker-style chain necklaces in a high-polished metal provides an edgy yet glamorous look.

Pearls: the popularity of this organic gem endures. Staying with the big links trend, pair a chunky link with a drop pearl and you have a showstopper. Or, layer long strands of pearls with a couple of silver or gold link necklaces for a style that says there is nothing wrong with a wrist party!

Bright Colors. If you are a fan of seventies jewelry, the jewelry gods have smiled upon you. This season, think jewelry painted in enamel or treated in bright hues of red, blue, green, and yellow. Brighten up a dark outfit or enliven your mood on a rainy autumn day. If you plan to invest in one accessory this year...this is it!

Tips from the American Gem Society on Selling Your Fine Jewelry in 2020

LAS VEGAS, Nev. /ScoopCloud/ -- The diamond necklace from an ex, the gold watch that sits in your jewelry box, the ruby necklace that you loved-a decade ago. We all have jewelry that we no longer wear. Selling your old jewelry is an option, but it can be hard to know how and where to get started. Here are a few tips from the American Gem Society (AGS) on getting the most from your rings, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces.

1. Know the worth

You may love your jewelry, but the emotional value you assign to your jewelry often has little to do with the current fair market price of your piece. Many factors go into determining the current value of a piece of jewelry, including fashion and style, current condition, designer (or not), and wearability or repair needs. Remember, that chain or gold watch is always worth its weight in gold, but may not be worth any more than that.

The best way to determine your item's value is by due diligence. Let several jewelers evaluate it and ask for a purchase offer. Have an AGS trained Certified Gemologist® (CG), a Certified Gemologist® Appraiser (CGA) or an Independent Certified Gemologist® Appraiser (ICGA), recommend an accurate replacement value. Keep in mind that your used item will not bring the same price as a new comparable item.

It is important to know the new price in order to determine the selling price. You should expect low offers in comparison to the replacement value, because any jeweler who purchases it will try to resell it, and in effect becomes the middle-man who will sell it for a higher price to make a profit.

2. Be informed

Consider how quickly you want to sell your jewelry. If you want an immediate sale (i.e. cash in hand today), your options will be limited on where you can sell, and how much cash someone might be willing to pay immediately. Many jewelry stores offer a consignment option, where you leave your piece with them, and upon sale, they pay you. This is often the best way to maximize the money you receive.

If you are able to wait, researching some other possibilities could net you a better price for your jewelry, or provide other options, like re-setting gemstones from your jewelry into a new piece.

Visit an AGS jeweler who buys jewelry (not all do; make sure to call ahead) and learn your options to sell your piece or work out another solution.

3. Be realistic

Have a range in mind of what you would accept for the piece and be willing to accept an offer in that range. Be aware you may get offers that are higher, or possibly lower, based upon all the factors previously mentioned.

If you are looking for a jeweler in your area who might be interested in purchasing your jewelry, or if you are interested in re-setting your gemstones into a new piece, visit http://www.ags.org/findajeweler.

American Gem Society Offers Tips for Holiday Jewelry Purchases

LAS VEGAS, Nev. /ScoopCloud/ -- The American Gem Society (AGS), a nonprofit association dedicated to consumer protection and the ongoing education of jewelers, is providing tips for consumers to keep in mind this holiday season before hitting the stores to make significant diamond and jewelry purchases.

* Be aware of inflated pricing. If a discount seems too good to be true, it probably is. AGS member jewelers must adhere to standards of business conduct that strictly prohibit inflating a price by a certain percent, then advertising that it is that same percentage off.
* See it. Touch it. Feel it. Though the prices for jewelry found online are sometimes lower, AGS recommends that consumers see, touch, and feel the jewelry they are considering purchasing - especially diamonds. Online purchases can look different in person than on a screen.
* Ask for a diamond grading report. It's important to ask for a diamond grading report from an independent laboratory. A thorough grading report covers all 4Cs-cut, color, clarity, and carat-so that the jewelry buyers know and understand the quality of what they are purchasing. AGS Laboratories was founded in 1996 by AGS as a nonprofit diamond grading laboratory that shares their mission of consumer protection. This mission ensures jewelry buyers will receive an unbiased opinion on the quality of their diamond.
* Ask for Credentials. AGS encourages jewelry buyers to shop with a credentialed, professional jeweler, who is a member of an organization with a strict code of business ethics, such as AGS. By shopping with a jeweler who knows and understands gems and metals, jewelry buyers will feel less stress and more confident with their purchase.

To find a credentialed AGS jeweler, visit https://www.americangemsociety.org/find-a-jeweler.

Henry Winkler Heads Keynote Lineup for AGS Conclave 2020

LAS VEGAS, Nev. /ScoopCloud/ -- Henry Winkler, Emmy-winning actor, director, producer, and New York Times best-selling author, will be the opening keynote speaker for the American Gem Society's (AGS) Annual Conclave, which will be held in Denver, Colorado, April 27-29, 2020 at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel.

Joining Winkler will be two other powerful speakers who have signed up to educate and motivate: innovation expert Josh Linkner will be the keynote on April 28, and pilot Amelia Rose Earhart will be the closing keynote on April 29.

Winkler won the Emmy(R) in 2018 for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in the HBO series, "Barry," and is perhaps, best known for his role as Fonzie in "Happy Days." Winkler's presentations are designed to inspire and entertain through humorous anecdotes and inspirational life lessons about overcoming adversity to his storied career in television and entertainment.

Josh Linkner, a five-time successful tech entrepreneur, keynote speaker, and CEO will deliver a clear call-to-action to the AGS membership: innovate and disrupt your organization to stay ahead of the competition, and embrace change for a brighter future.

As an inspiring pilot, Amelia Rose Earhart became one of the youngest women to fly a single-engine plane around the world. In her keynote, Amelia will teach the AGS community how to create a flight plan for success, define their "True North," and achieve their goals.

Funnyman Joel Zeff returns as the emcee. Zeff, an acclaimed motivator, public speaker, humorist, and actor, is well-known to the AGS members as a past keynote and featured speaker at Conclave.

"In addition to our exciting lineup of keynote speakers, Conclave will feature a robust schedule of breakout sessions on topics vital to our industry, such as sustainability, security, and of course, sessions that help our members drive business, such as sales, marketing, gemology, and financial management," said Alexis Padis, CGA, and Chair of the Conclave Subcommittee. "With numerous networking opportunities, Conclave is a great place for the AGS community to mingle and meet other like-minded professionals who share their mission of consumer protection, ongoing education, and high standards of business ethics."

The American Gem Society would like to thank Jewelers Mutual Insurance Group, who is, once again, the Presenting Sponsor for Conclave. Without their support, the American Gem Society would not be able to provide the educational programming that it offers.

Registration for Conclave opened on November 5. To learn more, visit ags.org/Conclave2020.

American Gem Society Launches Digital Badging for Members

LAS VEGAS, Nev. /ScoopCloud/ -- The American Gem Society (AGS) announced today the launch of "digital badging" credentials for AGS members. The badges are the first of its kind in the jewelry industry.

A digital badge is a graphical icon that indicates the AGS members' credentials and accomplishments and is displayed, accessed, and verified online. The badge can be added to their email signature, website, or social media.

Consumers can click on the member's badge, which then takes them to an online source that goes into further detail about why they have earned that badge, the methods they took to achieve it, and how they are working to maintain their AGS credentials.

"As a titleholder, our members have pledged to uphold the AGS mission of maintaining and promoting strong business ethics, continuing education, and protecting the consumer," said Katherine Bodoh, RJ, CEO of the American Gem Society and AGS Laboratories. "In their stores, our members proudly display their certificates, but they cannot do that online or in emails. Digital badging acts as that virtual wall behind their desk or counter where they can proudly display their hard-earned certificates."

Bodoh adds, "It's one more way we can let consumers know about the importance of shopping with an AGS jeweler, and is a point of differentiation for the jeweler."

For more information about the American Gem Society, please visit ags.org. To learn more about digital badging, visit ags.org/digitalbadging.

AGS Laboratories Releases Digital Diamond Grading Reports – Digital Format Serves as the Official Document #AskForAGS

LAS VEGAS, Nev. /ScoopCloud/ -- AGS Laboratories announces the launch of their grading reports in a digital platform. The digital documents serve as an official grading report and will be formatted the same as AGS Laboratories' printed documents.

"We're excited to add digital documents to our product offering. Digital documents help us in our commitment to environmental management by reducing paper, as well as, reducing operational costs for everyone in the supply chain across a variety of processes: shipping, storing, and replacement of lost documents," said Jason Quick, AGS Laboratories Executive Director.

The document resides on AGS Laboratories Only My Diamond(R) (OMD) so that consumers are getting the benefits of the platform, including an actual video of the diamond, a clear-cut explanation of the 4Cs, the diamond's clarity plot, laser inscription, and social media sharing options. Previous versions of OMD had an online copy of the grading report, while the official document was in printed form.

"By incorporating the official digital grading report into the OMD experience, the retailer can present the diamond with a grading report that their customers will find both fun and interesting," said Quick.

Another benefit of the digital report is that no app is needed: the document can be accessed through the Report Verification function on agslab.com or from display cards in the store, which features a QR Code linking to the document. If a consumer, retailer, or the supplier wants a physical grading report, one can be ordered from AGS Laboratories.

The first digital documents are already in use by Helzberg Diamonds(R) for the Kalahari Dream(R) collection, in advance of the holiday shopping season.

To learn more about AGS Laboratories and the products and services that they offer, including the digital documents, visit https://www.americangemsociety.org/page/aboutagslabs or contact support@agslab.com.

About AGS Laboratories:

The American Gem Society saw a need in the jewelry industry for a diamond grading laboratory that shared their mission and values, and created AGS Laboratories in 1996 to fill that need. Whiteflash Selected to Host Historic Esperanza Diamond

Esperanza Diamond pendant

HOUSTON, Texas, Jan. 18, 2016 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Whiteflash announced today that they have been selected to host the historic Esperanza Diamond in Houston, Texas on its cross-country tour of American Gem Society (AGS) member stores. The one-of-a-kind diamond will be on display in the Whiteflash Houston jewelry store in Sugar Land Town Square February 3-7, 2016.

The Esperanza is the most important diamond ever found in the United States. It was unearthed in June of 2015 in Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas. Special arrangements were made to have the rough diamond crystal cut and polished locally to preserve its "born and raised in Arkansas" status. Adding to its All American provenance, it was cut by master diamond cutter Mike Botha of Embee Diamonds, an American Gem Society member. It was graded at the American Gem Society Laboratories (AGSL) and is being hosted on its journey across America exclusively by AGS member stores.

The unique icicle shaped crystal weighed 8.52 carats, the 4th largest crystal ever found in the USA, and yielded a perfectly colorless and internally flawless finished diamond of 4.605 carats graded D IF by AGSL. (GIA report also available). The exotic Triolette shape of the finished diamond features 147 facets, and the diamond is set into a custom designed platinum pendant as unique as the diamond itself. It was designed by Ian Douglas and crafted in the USA by Byard F. Brogan, both of whom are also AGS members.

The Esperanza diamond, which may be worth in excess of $1M dollars, will be sold to the highest bidder in a silent auction style process with bids submitted by interested buyers through one of the AGS member stores hosting the tour. Parties interested in acquiring a rare, world-class, and wearable piece of Americana can contact Whiteflash for more information and receive a bidding form. Bids will be accepted through Valentine's Day - February 14, 2016.

Whiteflash Vice-president and Graduate Gemologist Bryan Boyne had this to say about the event. "We are honored and thrilled to have been chosen to host the Esperanza in greater Houston - the fourth largest market in America. For Whiteflash to be forever connected with this exceptional gem, and with American diamond history, is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity."
