With a project cost of $1.5 million, the District anticipates a reduction in utility and maintenance costs of about $51,000 annually. By using the Ohio Council of Educational Purchasing Consortia's (OCEPC) competitively-bid LED Lighting and Energy Savings program, the District did not have to go through a lengthy and expensive bidding process for the project.

The LED lighting retrofits offer up to 75 percent savings over the district's former lighting systems, offering an almost immediate reduction in utility costs. They will also last 3 to 4 times longer, which will further reduce long-term operations and maintenance costs.

Beyond the financial savings, LED lighting is a superior option for educational settings. The quality of LED lighting is very close to natural daylight, making it easier on the eyes. Further, it offers improved light distribution and lighting levels. LEDs are also free of the hum and flicker associated with fluorescent lighting, making it an ideal system for special needs classrooms. Spencerville Local Schools expects to save more than $51,000 annually through project with Energy Optimizers, USA

TIPP CITY, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- Spencerville Local Schools is partnering with Energy Optimizers, USA, to upgrade its lighting systems to LEDs, a move that is expected to save the district more than $51,000 annually.

Energy Optimizers, USA, is upgrading the interior and exterior lighting systems in both the district's K-12 and administrative buildings to the more highly efficient LEDs. The lighting uses an average of 60 percent less energy than the systems being replaced. LEDs can last up to 20 years, which translates into a measurable reduction in maintenance and equipment costs.

LED lighting also offers a quality of light that is very close to natural sunlight, which creates a more comfortable environment for reading. And because it does not have the hum and flicker associated with fluorescent lighting, it is an ideal lighting system for special needs classrooms.

The majority of the work will be funded through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission's House Bill 264 program, enabling the district to make these cost-cutting improvements at no expense to taxpayers while ensuring the guaranteed savings of the project are met or exceeded.

Shawnee Local Schools to Save $117,560 Annually Through Implementing Energy Conservation Project

As a result, the District can count on a 9.36 year payback, along with other post-project benefits, including energy management and energy education programming, in addition to increasingly efficient buildings that facilitate a productive and safe academic experience.
