The 2025 New Jersey Above and ‘BEE’yond Essay Contest Winners are:

In January, the Doherty-owned Applebee’s restaurants asked students in local elementary, middle, and high schools to submit essays explaining how their teachers went above and “BEEyond.” A panel of judges selected the top eight essays and awarded those special teachers with a check for $500 to better their classrooms and the opportunity to host an exclusive end-of-year class celebration at their local Doherty-owned Applebee’s restaurant.

The annual essay contest celebrates outstanding teachers, nominated by their students, by awarding each a $500 sponsorship check and hosting a special end-of-year class party.

Starting today, the essay contest is open at participating Applebee’s® restaurants on Long Island that are owned and operated by local franchisee, Doherty Enterprises (see complete list of participating restaurants below).

This spring, four exceptional educators – two from Nassau County and two from Suffolk County – will each receive a $500 sponsorship check to enhance their classrooms for the 2025-2026 school year. Additionally, the winning teachers will enjoy a celebratory end-of-year party with their current class!*

To participate in the contest, students are invited to submit an essay in person at their local Applebee’s®, detailing why their teacher should be named Applebee’s® “Teacher of the Year.” Elementary school students are asked to write a ½ page essay, while middle and high school students must submit a 500-word essay explaining why their teacher stands out.

As an added bonus, all students who submit an essay will be rewarded with a free ice cream certificate** for future use.

Each student may submit only one essay, and entries will be accepted at participating Applebee’s® locations from Monday, January 6 through Sunday, March 16, 2025, with a strict deadline of 10 pm ET. Winners will be announced on Friday, April 18, and the class parties will take place in June. If class parties are not feasible, they will be substituted with two Dinner for Four certificates for the student who wrote the winning essay.

Designed to celebrate exceptional educators in the community, the contest invites students to nominate a teacher who has made a significant impact on their education through a heartfelt essay. Winning teachers will receive a $500 check to enhance their classrooms and enjoy a special end-of-year celebration with their class at their local Doherty-owned Applebee’s.

The essay contest is now open at participating Doherty Enterprises-owned Applebee’s® restaurants in New Jersey (see the complete list of locations below). Students in elementary, middle, and high school can participate by submitting an essay in person at their nearest New Jersey Doherty-owned Applebee’s, sharing why their chosen teacher deserves the title of Doherty’s Applebee’s “Teacher of the Year.”

Entries must come from students who attend school in the following NJ counties only:

  • Passaic, Bergen, Hudson, Sussex, Essex, Morris, Warren, Hunterdon, Somerset, Union, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean

At the conclusion of the judging process this spring, eight remarkable teachers from New Jersey will be awarded a $500 sponsorship check to support their classrooms for the 2025-2026 school year. These educators will also have the opportunity to host a celebratory party for their current students!*

Elementary school students are asked to write a ½ page essay, while middle and high school students are required to submit a 500-word essay explaining why their teacher is most deserving of this honor. As a bonus, all students who enter will receive a free ice cream certificate** to enjoy on a future visit.

Each student is allowed one essay submission, which will be accepted at participating Applebee’s restaurants from Monday, January 6 – Sunday, March 16, 2024 with a firm deadline of 10 p.m. ET. Winners will be announced on Friday, April 18, and the class celebrations will take place in June. If circumstances prevent the parties, they will be replaced with two Free-Dinner-for-Four certificates for the student who wrote the winning essay.

Starting today, the essay contest is open at participating Applebee’s restaurants in New York’s five boroughs as well as Westchester County that are owned and operated by local franchisee, Doherty Enterprises (see complete list of participating restaurants below).

One deserving teacher from each borough and Westchester County will be awarded with a $500 sponsorship check to use toward their classroom for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year, along with an end-of-year party for their current class! *

To nominate a teacher and enter the contest, students must submit an essay in-person at their local Applebee’s explaining why their teacher deserves to be Applebee’s “Teacher of the Year.”

Elementary school students are required to nominate their teacher with a ½ page essay, while middle and high school students are required to write a 500-word essay on why their teacher is most deserving. As an additional incentive, students who enter an essay will also receive a free ice cream certificate** for later use.

Essay submissions are limited to one per student and will be accepted at participating Applebee’s restaurants from Monday, January 6th through Sunday, March 16th, no later than 10 p.m. ET. Winners will be announced on Friday, April 18th and end-of-year parties will be thrown in June 2025. If end-of-year parties are not viable, class parties will be replaced with two Free-Dinner-for-Four certificates for the winning essay writer.

Doherty Enterprises-owned Applebee’s® on Long Island Launch 8th Annual Above and ‘BEE’yond Teacher Essay Contest

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. /ScoopCloud/ -- Doherty Enterprises-owned Applebee's® Neighborhood Grill & Bar restaurants on Long Island announced today the official launch of their 8th annual Above and "BEE"yond Teacher Essay Contest. The annual essay contest recognizes top teachers - as nominated by their students - rewarding each with a $500 sponsorship check and special end-of-year class party.

Starting today, the essay contest is open at participating Applebee's® restaurants on Long Island that are owned and operated by local franchisee, Doherty Enterprises (see complete list of participating restaurants below).

This spring, four deserving teachers - two in Nassau County and two in Suffolk County - will be awarded a $500 sponsorship check to use toward their classroom for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year, along with an end-of-year party for their current class!*

To nominate a teacher and enter the contest, students must submit an essay in-person at their local Applebee's® explaining why their teacher deserves to be Applebee's® "Teacher of the Year." Elementary school students are required to nominate their teacher with a 1/2 page essay, while middle and high school students are required to write a 500-word essay on why their teacher is most deserving.

As an additional incentive, students who enter an essay will also receive a free ice cream certificate** for later use.

Essay submissions are limited to one per student and will be accepted at participating Applebee's® restaurants from Monday, January 8 through Sunday, March 17, 2024 - no later than 10 p.m. ET. Winners will be announced on Friday, April 19 and end-of-year parties will be thrown before Friday, June 14. If end-of-year parties are not viable, class parties will be replaced with two Dinner for Four certificates for the winning essay writer.

* Suffolk County: Bohemia, Brentwood, Commack, Deer Park, East Farmingdale, East Islip, Farmingville, Lake Grove, Lindenhurst, Miller Place, Patchogue, Riverhead, and Shirley.
