The annual contest begins Monday, January 12, 2026, and ends Sunday, March 15, 2026. All essays must be submitted in person to the Applebee’s General Manager or manager on duty at participating Doherty-owned Applebee’s locations no later than 10:00 p.m. ET on March 15, 2026. Winners will be announced on Friday, April 24, 2026, and end-of-year parties must be scheduled before Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

The annual contest begins Monday, January 12, 2026, and ends Sunday, March 15, 2026. All essays must be submitted in person to the Applebee’s General Manager or manager on duty at participating Doherty-owned Applebee’s locations no later than 10:00 p.m. ET on March 15, 2026. Winners will be announced on Friday, April 24, 2026, and end-of-year parties must be scheduled before Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

  • Elementary students: submit a half-page essay on why their teacher deserves the honor.
  • Essays must be submitted in person to the General Manager or manager on duty at the student’s local Doherty-owned Applebee’s. Limit one entry per student.

The annual essay contest celebrates outstanding teachers, nominated by their students, by awarding each a $500 sponsorship check and hosting a special end-of-year class party.

Starting today, the essay contest is open at participating Applebee’s® restaurants on Long Island that are owned and operated by local franchisee, Doherty Enterprises (see complete list of participating restaurants below).

This spring, four exceptional educators – two from Nassau County and two from Suffolk County – will each receive a $500 sponsorship check to enhance their classrooms for the 2025-2026 school year. Additionally, the winning teachers will enjoy a celebratory end-of-year party with their current class!*

To participate in the contest, students are invited to submit an essay in person at their local Applebee’s®, detailing why their teacher should be named Applebee’s® “Teacher of the Year.” Elementary school students are asked to write a ½ page essay, while middle and high school students must submit a 500-word essay explaining why their teacher stands out.

As an added bonus, all students who submit an essay will be rewarded with a free ice cream certificate** for future use.

Each student may submit only one essay, and entries will be accepted at participating Applebee’s® locations from Monday, January 6 through Sunday, March 16, 2025, with a strict deadline of 10 pm ET. Winners will be announced on Friday, April 18, and the class parties will take place in June. Designed to celebrate exceptional educators in the community, the contest invites students to nominate a teacher who has made a significant impact on their education through a heartfelt essay. Winning teachers will receive a $500 check to enhance their classrooms and enjoy a special end-of-year celebration with their class at their local Doherty-owned Applebee’s.

The essay contest is now open at participating Doherty Enterprises-owned Applebee’s® restaurants in New Jersey (see the complete list of locations below). At the conclusion of the judging process this spring, eight remarkable teachers from New Jersey will be awarded a $500 sponsorship check to support their classrooms for the 2025-2026 school year. Elementary school students are asked to write a ½ page essay, while middle and high school students are required to submit a 500-word essay explaining why their teacher is most deserving of this honor. Each student is allowed one essay submission, which will be accepted at participating Applebee’s restaurants from Monday, January 6 – Sunday, March 16, 2024 with a firm deadline of 10 p.m. ET. For elementary school students, a 1/2 page essay is required for nomination, while middle and high school students must craft a compelling 500-word essay detailing why their teacher is most deserving of this recognition. New Jersey Applebee’s Locations Announce 6th Annual Above and ‘BEE’yond Teacher Essay Contest

ALLENDALE, N.J. /ScoopCloud/ -- Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar has announced and is accepting nominations for its 6th annual Above and "BEE"yond Teacher Essay Contest, which recognizes top teachers - as nominated by their students - by rewarding them with a sponsorship check and end-of-year class party. The contest is being offered at Applebee's restaurants in New Jersey owned and operated by local franchisee Doherty Enterprises.

Applebee's will award four deserving teachers across 13 counties with a $500 sponsorship check to use toward their classroom for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year, along with an end-of-year party for their current class*! To nominate a teacher and enter the contest, students must submit an essay in-person at their local Applebee's explaining why their teacher deserves to be Applebee's "Teacher of the Year." As an additional incentive, students who enter an essay will also receive a free ice cream certificate** for later use.

Essay submissions are limited to one per student and will be accepted at participating Applebee's restaurants from Monday, January 10 through Sunday March 13, no later than 10pm. Winners will be announced on Monday, April 15 and end-of-year parties will be thrown before Sunday, June 12. If end-of-year parties are not viable, class parties will be replaced with two Dinner for Four certificates.

Olive, Newark, Newton, North Bergen, Ocean, Paramus, Parsippany, Phillipsburg, Piscataway, Rockaway, Tinton Falls, Totowa and Union.

*One winner will be selected from each set of counties, grouped together by the following geographic areas: - (Bergen, Passaic, Hudson); (Warren, Hunterdon, Somerset, Union); (Morris, Sussex, Essex); and (Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean). Please note, essay submissions from the 2021-2022 school year will also be included in this year's voting. Prizes are subject to change based on COVID-19 restrictions. If end-of-year parties are not viable, class parties will be replaced with two Dinner for Four certificates.
