New Press Publishes Picture Book About Boston’s History

WEYMOUTH, Mass. /ScoopCloud/ -- "It Happened In Boston" (ISBN: 978-1733084703), a new children's board book introducing the history of Boston to young readers, is also the first in a series by Weymouth-based Great Pond Press, a publisher of books specifically created to interest children in history from a very young age.

"If you know the history of a place, you can't help but fall in love with it a little," Mike Pickett, founder and publisher of Great Pond Press, said. "I think that kids should grow up loving where they are from."

Pickett, originally from California, relocated to New England in his twenties and it was Boston's rich history that won him over.

"When I first moved here, I couldn't believe that I could be standing in the same place where the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party or the Battle of Bunker Hill took place. It made me feel connected to those events." Pickett says that he wants children to feel that kind of connection to history.

"I hope that kids can understand that history isn't something that happened in some far-off place or time," he said. "I hope they know that wherever they are, that place has a history and they are a small part of it."

"It Happened In Boston" highlights episodes from Boston's history ranging from the city's founding by John Winthrop to Paul Revere's famous midnight ride to the ambitious and overbudget Big Dig. Recounted in a way that is both appropriate and engaging for children ranging from newborns to kindergarteners, "The book focuses on the good stuff," Pickett said. "There will be plenty of time for children to learn about the rest of the city's history as they get older."

Pickett adds, "One of my favorite writers is David McCullough, and I recently heard him say that we are raising historically illiterate children. I hope that our books can start children on the path to being historically literate."

Pickett holds a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin and currently works as an attorney in Boston. But before going to law school, he earned a master's degree in Publishing and Writing from Emerson College. "Starting Great Pond Press has allowed me to finally put all the knowledge that I gained during my master's degree to good use," Pickett said.

"It Happened In Boston" is available on Amazon and at https://greatpondpress.com/.

Great Pond Press will continue the "It Happened In ..." series with "It Happened In New York" and "It Happened In Philadelphia" to be published next year.

Just Like Me: Natalie Gonchar’s Book Improves Diversity in Children’s Media

DALLAS, Texas /ScoopCloud/ -- It is not a secret that young kids are very impressionable, and what they see on children's media will most likely make a big impact on how they will see and act out in the world, says author Natalie Gonchar. On October 24, Natalie's book, "Mr. Gringle's Magical Wheelchair" (ISBN: 978-1612543154), was released, and it is now on the shelves at Barnes & Noble stores across the U.S. Natalie, a high school student, wrote the book after noticing a lack of children's books featuring lead characters who have disabilities.

"When disabilities are portrayed in the media, storylines often focus on what a character can't do, instead of what they can do. I believe it's important to avoid those stereotypes and focus on realistic experiences, challenges, and victories instead," Gonchar said.

Unfortunately, the media has had a history of vastly under-representing minorities and people with disabilities. Until recently, very few books, television shows and movies featured characters who were not white, straight, and able-bodied. A study of award-winning children's books published from 1975 to 2009 revealed a disproportionately smaller percentage of children with disabilities and ethnic diversity compared to those shown in actual classroom numbers. Today the situation is a little better, but still, when people with disabilities are included in plotlines, they are often marginal characters-or, they are stigmatized with sad or dramatic stories.

Having a casual, reoccurring character, who also happens to have a disability, in children's media could help stop casual ableism found in kids and would mean so much to children with disabilities.

"We need more inclusionary books, where a character who has a disability is included, but the story is not about the disability," says Dr. Joan K. Blaska, a retired professor and author of "Using Children's Literature to Learn about Disabilities and Illness." Reading stories that include characters with mental or physical challenges, who are portrayed in a positive light, helps expand children's concepts of what is "normal," building empathy and acceptance.

"Mr. Gringle's Magical Wheelchair" has already won the Gold Mom's Choice Award, a national award honoring excellence in family friendly media, and is currently under review for the Schneider Family Book award by the American Library Association (ALA). It is a wonderful story about a girl who finds strength to stand up to bullies and protect her friends.

Natalie is donating proceeds from the book's sales to Big Dreams Children's Foundation (BDCF), a nonprofit organization that provides financial and emotional support for kids with disabilities around the world.

If you're shopping for children this holiday season, consider "Mr. Gringle's Magical Wheelchair," available at any Barnes & Noble. It's just one book, but it has the potential to impact many children-through its message, and its mission.

Local Phoenix Radio Host, Rich Berra, Releases Second Holiday Children’s Book for Charity

PHOENIX, Ariz. /ScoopCloud/ -- Rich Berra, co-host of the nationally syndicated Johnjay and Rich Show on iHeart Radio, has released his second holiday children's book, "Christmas Steve Meets Christmas Carol" (ISBN: 978-0578571904). Berra's book is the sequel to "The Tale of Christmas Steve," released in 2017. Proceeds from the sale of each book go to the #LoveUp Foundation (loveupfoundation.org) - a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization co-founded by Berra and his on-air partner, Johnjay Van Es - which helps foster children and families in need.

Following the first whimsical book about a small elf with a big heart, "Christmas Steve Meets Christmas Carol" tells the story of a 6-foot-2 tall elf girl named Carol who, while big on the outside, is scared on the inside to let her talents shine. With a little help from Christmas Steve, Carol learns what happens when you let go of fear and start dreaming out loud. Illustrated by Design Art Studio and published by Branded Pros, the 32-page hardcover book retails for $17.99.

Since 2017, Berra has donated nearly $50,000 in book-generated profits to the #LoveUp Foundation. This year, with the arrival of "Christmas Carol," the radio host and author is implementing a buy-one, give-one campaign: Every book purchased at christmassteve.org will be matched with a second book donated to a Children's Miracle Network Hospital, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, a Title 1 school or one of #LoveUp's affiliated programs.

"This year, we wanted to go beyond the monetary donation and share what's at the heart of these books - a love of reading - with kids everywhere," said Berra. "The story, the proceeds and the gift of the book itself to children in need all combine to make the ultimate impact."

In addition to featuring the two hilarious and heartwarming children's books, Berra's Christmas Steve brand has expanded to include fashion t-shirts with funny elf sayings, kids' and baby clothing, natural wood toys and more elf-themed merchandise.

Aaron Ozee Loses Bestselling Children’s Book ‘Regulus’ Inside Bermuda Triangle

CHICAGO, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- Aaron Ozee, author of notable children's book, "Regulus" (ISBN: 978-1387010790), has partnered with independent aviation consultants to send a printed copy of his esteemed parable into the mythical depth of the Bermuda Triangle.

With the first notorious disappearances beginning during the early 17th Century, there have been more than one thousand reported cases of vehicles designed for traveling on water or through air vanishing without reasonable cause. Despite researchers or scientists developing ways to debunk the legend that has encompassed the Bermuda Triangle, an excess of evidence has emerged from the recent deliverance of "Regulus" unto the abnormal region of watery riddles.

Launched on the coast of the Florida Keys, the printed copy of "Regulus" was fastened upon a quality commercial drone that was guided remotely into the elusive zone by an expert team of operators. Following a successful launch from the Florida Keys around 6:30 AM ET on September 20, the operators had reported signal interference of the live video being transmitted after traveling five miles from the shore.

Once interference with the live video became worse, the operators changed the settings of the drone to boost the signal, and twenty minutes following the original report of interference, an unexpected challenge arose when the streaming feed was terminated around 6:50 a.m. ET. As the live video ceased streaming, the global positioning system became conflicted as coordinate pings were paused absent warning.

Being prepared for this potential scenario, the operators brought an extra drone that was used to search the area where the first drone carrying "Regulus" broadcasted notices of aeronautical failure. After investigating the coordinates of the final location of the first drone, the operators were unable to determine the position of the vehicle or spot any fresh debris.

"Learning about different vehicles that have gone missing in the Bermuda Triangle working my way through school placed that sense of wonder in my thoughts. Witnessing the feats 'Regulus' has achieved while visiting the most extreme places on Earth gave me the inspiration necessary for sending my revered creation somewhere cloaked with the unknown. Even though it was the goal of this project to capture pictures or video during the flight, something far rarer came from this historical attempt," said Ozee during the announcement of this venture.

"Regulus" became the First Children's Book Lost To Bermuda Triangle, the First American Children's Book Lost To Bermuda Triangle, and the First Self-Published Book Lost To Bermuda Triangle. Everyone has been holding their breath with anticipation for what Ozee has on the block to proclaim next.

Copies of "Regulus" can be purchased from https://www.aaronozee.com or mainstream outlets.

Aaron Ozee Guides Bestselling Children’s Book ‘Regulus’ Across Mount Everest

CHICAGO, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- Aaron Ozee, bestselling author of notable children's book, "Regulus" (ISBN: 978-1387010790), partnered with select tourist operations in Kathmandu, Nepal to bring a printed copy of his famed tale with them during their procession of Base Camp on Mount Everest.

Base Camp is located on the Southeast Ridge of Mount Everest at 17,600 feet (5,380 meters) and is the beginning point for climbers looking to complete their lives upon reaching the summit.

Based on the unforgiving nature of the gargantuan pinnacle layered in glistening snow, Mount Everest stands as the highest elevation on Earth measuring at 29,029 feet (8,848 meters) and swindles the souls of experienced mountaineers with the dream of scaling the freezing range each season. Following the successful launch of "Regulus" into space during June of this year, which happens to be the most extreme locale known to humankind, Ozee decided to dispatch printed copies of his written masterpiece to regions equipped with lethal determination.

"Reaching for the stars was the challenge of a lifetime. With several failures along the way, the promise of sending 'Regulus' into space withered following each attempt. But, considering the vacuum of space has now graced my creation with bewildering muse, it came time for my child to witness the rest of the world," said Ozee during his announcement of reaching Mount Everest.

Aside from coordinating photoshoots with "Regulus" depicted alongside Mount Everest, it is the First Children's Book On Mount Everest, the First American Children's Book On Mount Everest and the First Self-Published Book On Mount Everest. Ozee has expressed his sincere gratitude to each tourist operation in Kathmandu, Nepal that allocated resources to ensuring the results of the mission were favorable (Mosaic Adventure, Amigo Trekking, and Himalayan Wonders). Seeing "Regulus" claim five new world records within two months, the global community of publishers, readers, and writers are enduring the pain of waiting to see where the celebrated story goes next.

Dallas Teen Publishes Award Winning Children’s Book Promoting Disability Representation

DALLAS, Texas /ScoopCloud/ -- Just in time for National Bullying Prevention Month, "Mr. Gringle's Magical Wheelchair" (ISBN: 978-1612543154) by Natalie Gonchar, is a new book scheduled to release on September 24, 2019.

The book has already won the Gold Mom's Choice Award - a national award honoring excellence in family-friendly media, and it's currently being reviewed for the Schneider Family Book award by the American Library Association (ALA).

Dr. Joan K. Blaska, a retired professor at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, and author of "Using Children's Literature to Learn about Disabilities and Illness," praised the book as a positive example of inclusionary literature.

"We need more inclusionary books where a character who has a disability is included, but the story is not about the disability," Blaska says. "The main character of this book is a girl who happens to have a disability. The topic is bullying, which is a problem in all of our schools. We've needed a book for children to foster conversations about bullying."

The book's main character, Lisa, along with her friends, work to confront bullies, Billy and Joe, who take allowances, steal snacks and generally, push people around. Lisa has a run-in with one of the boys and her wheelchair breaks, but her kind neighbor, Mr. Gringle, gives her a new one. This one is colorfully painted and according to Mr. Gringle, "brims with magic." Lisa is skeptical at first, but quickly realizes something is definitely different. She has a new-found power; she can now face these bullies and inspires other kids to do the same.

The book is available for online purchase through Barnes & Noble's website. All proceeds benefit charity.

ScoopCloud Newswire

Critically Acclaimed Author Aaron Ozee to Release Powerful New Children’s Book, ‘Regulus’

ADDISON, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- High quality fiction for children can be an impossible niche to satisfy and that is why Aaron Ozee, bestselling author of "My Darling Child Shiloh," has been gathering so much attention. Ozee's work with "My Darling Child Shiloh" garnered near universal praise when it was released in 2016. Ozee, a prolific author with 10 other pieces of work under his belt, immediately seized upon this success in order to develop his most ambitious project yet: "Regulus" (ISBN: 978-1387010790).

"Regulus" is the story of all stories and Ozee held nothing back when crafting this project. The story of Regulus is equally engaging and impactful as it blends high concept with childlike wonder, making it an incredible read for children of all ages. "Regulus" follows the tale of three tiny mice, representative of innocence and youth, as they cross paths with the titular character Regulus.

"Regulus" is a representation of the more troubling moments in life and a subject that so few children's authors dare to touch upon despite the gentle nature of such a tale.

The story of "Regulus" is going to be told not just on paper as it will be displayed in several different forms of media, as well. For "My Darling Child Shiloh" we saw Ozee develop a relationship with a stunning stop-motion artist by the name of Martyna Koleniec.

Koleniec and Ozee worked hand-in-hand to develop a gorgeous animated film adaptation of "My Darling Child Shiloh," eventually releasing it to the public where the video quickly racked up over 100,000 views globally. Ozee is revisiting this partnership in order to once again port his work into a more consumable medium, thus giving children the world over the opportunity to engage in the story of "Regulus."

Aaron Ozee has already detailed an extensive publication plan for "Regulus" in order to get it in front of the eyes of as many people as possible. "Regulus" will be published and put to market on June 24, 2017. The project will be released through Lulu Press and Smashwords in both print and eBook format.

Following an initial sales volley, Ozee will then be bringing "Regulus" to acclaimed publication wholesaler, Ingram Book Company for a global distribution deal. Once in distribution you will be able to find "Regulus" on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Half Price Books, Alibiris, Books-A-Million, Abe Books, Google Play, and through other booksellers.

As the push for "Regulus" reaches a fever pitch it can be important to remember just how far Aaron Ozee has come as an author in such a short period of time.

Ozee first began writing stories when he was just five years old and would go onto publish his first book, "Celestial Inferno: Poems of Another Realm," at age 15 while still attending Addison Trail High School. A foray into poetry led Ozee to begin garnering national attention as his anthology work, "Ironic Perfection: Poetic Works of Aaron Ozee," became a hit with the masses.

"Ironic Perfection" was Ozee's seventh published work and, perhaps, his most impactful to date. Now, Ozee is being brought on to speak at schools, bookstores, and national events in order to share his success as both an entrepreneur as well as an author. Fans who wish to follow along in Ozee's journey should remember to mark June 24 down on their calendars as the national and international release of "Regulus" comes closer by the day.

For all media inquiries, please call the offices of Ozee Holdings at (630) 656-0323. Additional information regarding the debut of Regulus will shared on Facebook (@AaronOzee), Twitter, (@AaronOzee), or via Aaron Ozee's official author website at http://www.aaronozee.com/. A Real Life Robin Hood? ‘Professional Plaintiff’ Uses Settlement Money to Release Children’s Book

GREEN BAY, Wis. /ScoopCloud/ -- Manifestation Machine, a global personal growth and development brand, today announced the release of "Breaking Away: Book One of the Rabylon Series" (ISBN: 978-1946029003), the debut, middle grade fiction novel from Cory Groshek, a man dubbed a "professional plaintiff" by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel who, in early 2015, filed three Class Action lawsuits over alleged violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, including one against cable giant Time Warner Cable.

Groshek, also known as fitness and fasting guru Low Carb Cory on YouTube and rapper Cory Crush, made headlines on June 25th, 2016 when the Journal Sentinel reported that he had earned over $230,000 through private settlements with more than 20 companies he'd accused of violating the law. In reaction to that report, which Groshek calls "a one-sided hit piece, probably paid for by Time Warner Cable," many have labeled Groshek an "extortionist" and a "scumbag," despite the fact that he's never been charged with or convicted of extortion, while others have branded him a "hero," a "one man [Federal Trade Commission]," and a "Robin Hood" of sorts who has taken from the rich (the companies he's settled with) and given to the poor, in the form of his book which, coincidentally, happens to be about "escaping poverty and finding abundance."

"A lot of people want to make me out to be the bad guy," says Groshek, "but personally? I like to think of myself as more of an anti-hero-something like the Bruce Wayne of children's book authors."

When asked about some of his critics' claims that he has used his settlement money simply to "enrich" himself, Groshek stands firm behind what he calls his "consumer rights work," which he openly admits has funded his foray into the world of fiction.

"Sure, I could have used the money simply to 'enrich myself,' or 'taken the money and run,' as they say, but I didn't," he says. "Instead, I've used it to put out a children's book, because my goal is and always has been to make this world a better place, not just for me, but for everyone - especially our children. And I believe my book does that."

Groshek's book, which has already earned multiple 5 star reviews on Amazon.com, follows two young bunnies, Remy and Rhea, as they attempt to escape from their impoverished village, Rabylon, and its tyrannical, dictator-like Mayor, en route to a mythical carrot paradise and what Groshek calls "a life worth dying for." Along the way, they learn the value of dreaming big, taking risks, trusting their gut, and choosing faith over fear in everything they do - values that Groshek believes should be taught in school but, unfortunately, are not.

"Breaking Away: Book One of the Rabylon Series" is available now on Kindle and in paperback, with its audio book version scheduled for release later this month.

Groshek's lawsuits versus Time Warner Cable and Great Lakes Higher Education (cases 0:16-cv-03711 and 0:16-cv-03355, respectively) are currently on appeal with the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, with oral argument scheduled for 2/22/2017. His lawsuit versus Alliance Hospitality Management (case 3:15-cv-00065, Wisconsin Western District Court) is currently stayed and pending a decision on a Motion to Dismiss filed by Alliance.
