Experts weigh in on the second Rystad Study, indicating that proppant type is the likely answer for accelerated shale well productivity declines

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Rystad Study, by Rystad Energy, one of North America's most respected energy research firms, focuses on the proppant type used in approximately 900 shale wells in the Permian basin in West Texas. The study compares wells completed using in-basin sand (IBS) with wells completed with northern white sand (NWS), says the Wisconsin Industrial Sand Association (WISA).

Although In-Basin Sand proppants dominate the Permian Market, the study's results indicate that in both the long and short term, most wells would deliver higher productivity using Northern White Sand proppant.

This Rystad Study is the second to examine productivity vs proppant type. It analyses three years of historical data from approximately 900 West Texas Permian Basin shale wells. This latest Rystad Study shows that in 85% of the cases, the short-term cost benefits of completing wells with IBS were lost within the first year when productivity began diverging significantly each year.

Penny Aschenbrenner of Material Spec Labs, which specializes in sand testing, said, "The physical properties of IBS and NWS proppants provide a logical explanation for the difference in production." Material Spec Labs uses API (American Petroleum Institute) testing methods to test frac sand for its customers. "Our job is to test the sand for the physical properties the customer is paying for," said Aschenbrenner. "The idea isn't new. It's sometimes difficult to conceptualize proppant properties and their functionality due to the foreign nature of micro measurements. But if we relate the problem to something we are familiar with, the answer is obvious." she said.

She was not surprised by the negative impact of IBS on wells and questioned whether any technically capable engineer would be either, "The science is pretty simple," she said, "the sand is exposed to extreme pressures and conditions in a well. It is easy to see that the lower-strength sand will crush and clog a well much sooner than a higher-quality proppant. That's what you see in the lab, and it's most likely happening downhole."

NWS became the proppant of choice when the shale revolution began because of its high strength and purity. NWS is a very round, very hard silica sand used to prop open the fractures induced by hydraulic fracturing. Hydraulic fracturing uses water, sand, and chemicals to fracture shale rock deep beneath the earth's surface. When the fracturing is finished, the liquids are returned to the surface, and the sand remains in place to keep the fractures "propped" open, which is why the sand is called a "proppant."

The Rystad study calls the industry's most recent choices into question. By adopting IBS, It's possible that executives did the right thing at the time for their stakeholders. When oil and gas prices plummeted, producers had already spent significant cash on growing production, with many outspending their cash flow by completing more wells than needed. This ultimately led to overproduction and caused prices to crash heading into the pandemic. By the time Covid hit and prices crashed, producers were running out of cash and perhaps considering bankruptcy. Their only option was reducing costs; IBS was an obvious, short-term solution.

So while IBS may have been a company-saving strategy, its use carried an unforeseen expense. As illustrated in the Rystad study findings, those companies, shareholders, mineral rights holders, and U.S. energy security, in general, are now experiencing decreased well productivity and longevity. Despite the early belief that production would stay the same, according to the production data in the Rystad Study, wells completed with IBS now reveal accelerated economic losses in the hundreds of thousands of dollars per well after only a few short years compared to wells completed with NWS. Those losses grow more significant as oil and gas prices increase.

The Rystad Study supports the observation that switching to IBS correlates with accelerating decline rates. It suggests serious consideration of the science and reconsidering of the proppant decision choices. Higher energy prices and demand, the ongoing interest in energy independence, and safety and environmental considerations mandate that oil and gas wells run optimally. Mineral rights holders, energy investors, landowners, and energy workers have significant vested economic interests.

Although In-Basin Sand dominates the Permian Market, the study's results suggest that even in the short term, the majority of wells would deliver higher productivity using Northern White Sand.

Congressman Ron Kind praises vaccination clinic in La Crosse

Kind said, noting that Wisconsin is among the top five states in the country when it comes to distributing vaccine in a timely manner. "It's because of planning, preparation and vaccine sites like this that keep people safe."

Julie Willems Van Dijk, deputy secretary for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, said it's been a team effort to get as many people vaccinated as possible, as quickly as possible.

"It's all players, all working together, all the time," she explained. "We've provided vaccine to health care, pharmacies, local health departments, employers, tribal nations ... and they're all distributing the vaccine quickly."

AMI Expeditionary Healthcare works with the state to identify locations to address gaps in vaccine access and support vaccination efforts. Factors including population demographics, local health capacity, operations, and concentration of other vaccine providers are taken into consideration when planning for clinics.

After high school, Ness passed up scholarship offers to study theater from half-a-dozen prestigious universities and music conservatories. Brazilians want to make an impact during FlatOutFriday

MILWAUKEE, Wis. /ScoopCloud/ -- It was only six years ago when the first official Flat Track competition took place in Brazil, with only ten to fifteen riders. Racer Chrys Miranda was the first Brazilian ever invited to FlatOutFriday, back in 2019. His experience and networking paved the way for the group's record participation at this year's event. The team will also have the first Brazilian woman to race in international flat competition.

"This is an important moment for the sport in Brazil, and to be part of an event as big as FlatOutFriday brings visibility to our efforts, and our racers. It also helps to spread the word in our country, the sport becomes better known, and, consequently, more people will become interested," says Miranda. "With that, not only are we are keeping the tradition, but bringing more people to the race and, consequently, new athletes and collaborations."

Miranda, who has been involved with the motorcycle culture in Brazil and the United States for decades, is one of the newly formed Brazilian Flat Track League founders. The League's vision is to develop and foster the sport in Brazil, by introducing regulations, classes, and an official circuit calendar.

Events like "Lucky Friends Rodeo" and "BMS Motorcycle" already host some of the biggest Flat Track races in Brazil. In conjunction with showcasing builders, shops, and artists, both events are good examples of how the culture is growing in the country.

"We want to keep the tradition rolling," says Flávio Luz, from Lucky Friends Rodeo who is another one of the League's founders. "By introducing norms and new classes to the races in Brazil, we want to open opportunities to a broader group of people. It will not only help disseminate the sport but will bring attention to the professionals and the technology involved in all of the aspects of this race."

The Brazilian FT League also has Cezinha Mocelin, founder of BMS Motorcycle, and Marcelo Creck, founder of Lucky Friends Rodeo, in its board.

Jeremy Prach, founder of FlatOutFriday and Mama Tried, feels that having the Brazilian racers at the events in 2020 is a big deal. "Who've thought that this culture that we have has touched people so far away. For that, I am most proud", said Jeremy.

Iwo Jima Memorial Midwest Project, Inc. Building New Iwo Jima Memorial – Updated with Correct Flag-raisers

Suribachi, the Iwo Jima Memorial Midwest Project (IJMM) is launching a nationwide program to build a new Iwo Jima Monument. Harold "Pie" Keller and Harold Schultz were identified by HQ USMC with the aid of FBI forensics as the Marines raising the flag. Therefore, the new IJMM statue will be the very first monument built that reflects the exact image of the photograph.

The raising of the US flag over Mount Suribachi, was the first foreign flag ever to fly on Japanese soil. The photograph of the flag raising was taken by AP photographer Joe Rosenthal. It became an iconic image of not only the battle, but of the War in the Pacific and one of the most reproduced photographs in the world.

For 36 days in February-March of 1945, the Battle of Iwo Jima Island saw some of the fiercest fighting of the Pacific War. In the five week battle American casualties reached 26,040 of which 6,821 Marines were killed and 23,573 wounded 33% of their available force, or one in every three that landed.

The new Monument will be placed in Racine, Wisconsin, just north of Chicago and South of Milwaukee. Racine is the home of Marine Corps League Detachment 346 that has been doing a Living Memorial Float of the flag-raising for over 74 years. The Marines hold the position of the famous statue for up to two hours in parades and various events.

The very first Iwo Jima Monument statue was molded as a table top version for review and approvals by the USMC. Sculptor Felix De Weldon used Johnson Floor Wax to form this statue. SC Johnson Wax Corporate HQ is in Racine.

World renowned Sculptor, Robert Bricker of the Bronze Craft Foundry in Charlottsville, Virginia will produce the 40 percent size of original size bronze monument. Bricker was the sculptor selected by National Parks to work on the restoration of the original statue in Arlington. The figures will be 13 feet tall. It will take 16 months to produce and weigh 20,000 lbs.

The two year, $4 Million dollar fundraising project is supported by all volunteer Marines, Veterans, Veterans Support Groups and dedicated civilians. The fundraising efforts are nationwide, supported with a wide range of merchandise for donors. Solicitation of Corporate sponsors is underway.

New Book ‘School of Errors’ Exposes Unsustainable School Safety Industry Spending Spree

Poor People Choose to Be Poor, says ‘Professional Plaintiff’ and Children’s Book Author Cory Groshek

The Ultimate Packer Fan Connection board of directors has chosen the New Community Shelter as the beneficiary of the event because if its service to homeless adults and Community Meal Program that serves meals daily to children and adults.

"The Ultimate Packer Fan Connection is committed to making a difference in the lives of the less fortunate," said Kris Olson, New Community Shelter Development Director said. "The board has been planning this great day to bring together fans and some players all in the name of charity. They live all over the state and fans they are associated with come from around the country to be part of this great organization. We are honored to be associated with such kind people."

Real Help for a Milwaukee Public School

WASHINGTON, D.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- On March 28, 2017, the Treasurer of STEM-CAN Supporters (SCS) sent a $2,500 check to Fritz Blandon, Principal of Milwaukee Allen-Field Elementary School as a donation for the immediate purchase of Student Leadership Blazers and seven compound microscopes along with some minor supplies.

Principal Blandon had earlier described to SCS these prioritized needs and their estimated costs as being beyond his school budget. Since such beyond-school-budget supplies and projects are well within the mission of SCS, it was easy for SCS to be of prompt assistance. SCS is glad to give direct help to needy public schools for the direct benefit of their students; it is doubly pleased to get such thrilled reaction as received from Principal Blandon who was effusive in his letter of acceptance of the donation.

This original gift to Allen-Field Elementary represents exactly half of what SCS has budgeted for the school community. SCS is deeply convinced that it takes a community to produce the best possible Public School results; it takes a community to minimize absenteeism while maximizing school spirit and graduation rates of caring students.

Therefore, beyond these kinds of direct help to the school, SCS offers the matching amount of funding to help the school PTO or school community leaders to strengthen the local school community. Such school community funds will be used by the local volunteer leadership of parents, teachers, and other community leaders for enriching neighboring and deepening communication among the whole school community.

Other needy neighborhood public schools are invited to participate similarly in using similar funding by the STEM-CAN Supporters, a charitable educational corporation.

STEM-CAN Supporters initially budgets a get-acquainted $5,000 per applying needy neighborhood public school, with $2,500 dedicated to immediate classroom, project, program or school needs and a matching $2,500 for developing school community neighbor relationships.

A Real Life Robin Hood? ‘Professional Plaintiff’ Uses Settlement Money to Release Children’s Book

GREEN BAY, Wis. /ScoopCloud/ -- Manifestation Machine, a global personal growth and development brand, today announced the release of "Breaking Away: Book One of the Rabylon Series" (ISBN: 978-1946029003), the debut, middle grade fiction novel from Cory Groshek, a man dubbed a "professional plaintiff" by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel who, in early 2015, filed three Class Action lawsuits over alleged violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, including one against cable giant Time Warner Cable.

Groshek, also known as fitness and fasting guru Low Carb Cory on YouTube and rapper Cory Crush, made headlines on June 25th, 2016 when the Journal Sentinel reported that he had earned over $230,000 through private settlements with more than 20 companies he'd accused of violating the law. In reaction to that report, which Groshek calls "a one-sided hit piece, probably paid for by Time Warner Cable," many have labeled Groshek an "extortionist" and a "scumbag," despite the fact that he's never been charged with or convicted of extortion, while others have branded him a "hero," a "one man [Federal Trade Commission]," and a "Robin Hood" of sorts who has taken from the rich (the companies he's settled with) and given to the poor, in the form of his book which, coincidentally, happens to be about "escaping poverty and finding abundance."

"A lot of people want to make me out to be the bad guy," says Groshek, "but personally? I like to think of myself as more of an anti-hero-something like the Bruce Wayne of children's book authors."

When asked about some of his critics' claims that he has used his settlement money simply to "enrich" himself, Groshek stands firm behind what he calls his "consumer rights work," which he openly admits has funded his foray into the world of fiction.

"Sure, I could have used the money simply to 'enrich myself,' or 'taken the money and run,' as they say, but I didn't," he says. "Instead, I've used it to put out a children's book, because my goal is and always has been to make this world a better place, not just for me, but for everyone - especially our children. And I believe my book does that."

Groshek's book, which has already earned multiple 5 star reviews on Amazon.com, follows two young bunnies, Remy and Rhea, as they attempt to escape from their impoverished village, Rabylon, and its tyrannical, dictator-like Mayor, en route to a mythical carrot paradise and what Groshek calls "a life worth dying for." Along the way, they learn the value of dreaming big, taking risks, trusting their gut, and choosing faith over fear in everything they do - values that Groshek believes should be taught in school but, unfortunately, are not.

"Breaking Away: Book One of the Rabylon Series" is available now on Kindle and in paperback, with its audio book version scheduled for release later this month.

Groshek's lawsuits versus Time Warner Cable and Great Lakes Higher Education (cases 0:16-cv-03711 and 0:16-cv-03355, respectively) are currently on appeal with the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, with oral argument scheduled for 2/22/2017. His lawsuit versus Alliance Hospitality Management (case 3:15-cv-00065, Wisconsin Western District Court) is currently stayed and pending a decision on a Motion to Dismiss filed by Alliance.
