JACKSONVILLE, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- Dark Matter Technologies (Dark Matter), an innovative leader in mortgage technology backed by time-tested loan origination software and leadership, today announced that Craig Rebmann, its product evangelist, has been named a 2024 HW Insider. Now in its ninth year, the HW Insiders program recognizes talented operations professionals laying the foundation of success for their organizations.

Rebmann was hand-selected by Dark Matter's CEO Rich Gagliano to lead the Empower product integration team in 2011, back when the loan origination system (LOS) had far fewer clients and was in need of a new direction. Over the next 12 years, Rebmann played a critical role in helping transform Empower into the most advanced and one of the most-used core origination technologies, now used by more than 80 lenders. Never one to rest on his laurels, today Rebmann continues to wield great influence as product evangelist, where he works hand-in-glove with Dark Matter Technologies' sales engineers to provide lenders with solutions tailored to their unique business models.

Equipped with exceptional knowledge and passion for Dark Matter's products, Rebmann was appointed product evangelist in 2023. In this role, Rebmann is now passing that product enthusiasm and inquisitiveness on to the Dark Matter sales team. Craig and his team regularly educate sales about product enhancements and best practice applications. He accompanies sales engineers on product demos, delving into lenders' business models and challenges to provide a consultative experience.

During his tenure leading product, Rebmann's notable accomplishments include bringing to market automated, task-based workflows that transform back-office productivity (also known as the Orchestration Engine); building out a more robust integration with the Exchange integration hub; and developing correspondent lending functionality within Empower.

"We are fortunate to have Craig guiding development decisions. His lengthy experience with Empower provides us with valuable insight to help Dark Matter's product and technology specialists identify the needs of customers and match them with the right solutions," said Dark Matter CEO Rich Gagliano. "His honesty, work ethic and enthusiasm encapsulate Dark Matter's values and are setting the table for a very bright future. We are so pleased he chose to join us when he did."

"The HousingWire Insiders honorees are the operational leaders who are the backbones of their organizations - driving innovation and efficiency, and creating opportunities for their organizations," said Clayton Collins, CEO of HW Media. Dark Matter Technologies enhances the Empower LOS with native support for mortgage assumptions

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- Dark Matter Technologies (Dark Matter), an innovative leader in mortgage technology backed by time-tested loan origination software and leadership, today announced enhancements to the Loan Assumptions feature in the Empower® loan origination system (LOS) that make it easier for mortgage lenders and servicers to transfer assumable mortgages to new homebuyers. The Empower LOS is the first mortgage loan origination system to announce native support for loan assumptions, a feat made possible by the system's flexibility and robust mortgage servicing platform integrations.

An assumable mortgage is a type of home loan that allows the transfer of the original borrower's loan - including the remaining balance, repayment schedule and interest rate - to a new homeowner. Although conventional loans are seldom assumable, loans from the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Veterans Affairs (VA), and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) - products that account for more than one in five active loans today - can be assumed if certain conditions are met.

Typically, buyers must qualify under the loan's criteria, and sellers need to obtain approval from their loan servicer. The Empower LOS supports the process whether initiated by the seller's mortgage servicer or the buyer's mortgage originator and can even work with financial institutions that use a different LOS provider for first-lien origination.

Mortgage assumptions are gaining popularity in today's purchase mortgage market, where buyers often face interest rates that are higher than the seller's existing rate. The FHA recently announced it will adjust the maximum fee mortgagees may charge to process these loans from $900 to $1,800. Scheduled to go into effect on August 19, the change was made to support increased consumer demand by compensating mortgagees "at a rate that is appropriate for today's market."

"After successfully piloting our loan assumption capability with a select group of early adopters, we're incredibly pleased with the progress, success and the general availability of this important feature that consumers and real estate agents are increasingly asking for by name," said Dark Matter CEO Rich Gagliano. "By partnering with Dark Matter, mortgage originators and servicers can transfer assumable mortgages for home buyers and sellers in a manner that is compliant and efficient."

Dark Matter Technologies appoints former Ellie Mae executive as deputy chief product officer

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- Dark Matter Technologies (Dark Matter) today announced the appointment of Vikas Rao as deputy chief product officer. Reporting directly to Chief Product Officer Stephanie Durflinger, Rao is charged with overseeing enhancements to the Empower® loan origination system (LOS) and establishing Dark Matter's developer community, which will help lenders embed automation deeper in their origination workflows and more tightly integrate their systems using open application programming interfaces (APIs) and widgets.

Rao previously served as vice president of product management for mortgage origination technology provider Ellie Mae®. There, Rao pushed the "next generation" of mortgage technology, leading product strategy for the Encompass® loan origination platform and for Ellie Mae's Developer Connect solution, a suite of APIs that enabled lenders and partners to securely share information. Though Rao took a career break following the $11 billion acquisition of Ellie Mae by Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE: ICE) in 2020, he ultimately found the opportunity to help guide Dark Matter's tech transformation too compelling to pass up.

"Dark Matter's pioneering advancements in automation and AI are reshaping the mortgage landscape," Rao said. "I'm eager to apply my expertise to propel Dark Matter's mission forward, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in mortgage origination and amplifying our impact on the homebuying experience of lenders and consumers alike."

"Vikas has an impressive track record of success in driving digital innovation and API utilization in mortgage origination," said Dark Matter CEO Rich Gagliano. "With his technical chops and effective leadership style, Vika will play a pivotal role in our mission to empower lenders through AI, automation and innovation."

Rao has over 15 years of experience in software engineering, product management and technology leadership spanning public and private companies within the mortgage industry and in Silicon Valley's startup scene. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in computer science and is a 2017 graduate of Stanford University's Stanford Ignite executive education program.

Monterra Credit Union elevates the member experience with the Empower LOS from Dark Matter Technologies

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- Dark Matter Technologies (Dark Matter), an innovative new leader in mortgage technology backed by time-tested loan origination software and leadership, today announced that Monterra Credit Union (Monterra CU), a full-service financial institution serving members throughout San Mateo County, California, the City of Palo Alto and the San Francisco Bay Area, has selected the Empower® loan origination system (LOS) for mortgage loan, home-equity loan and home-equity line of credit (HELOC) originations.

One of California's top 50 credit union lenders by mortgage loan volume, Monterra CU attributed its selection of the Empower LOS to the origination system's self-service configurability, its robust integrations with best-in-class product and pricing engines (PPE) and customer relationship management (CRM) platforms, and its support for the digital closings Monterra CU members increasingly prefer. In addition, the credit union expects to be able to close loans more quickly and process more loans per full-time employee with the help of the "lights-out" task automation that is native to the Empower LOS.

"Through the integration of the Empower LOS, Monterra Credit Union is enhancing the mortgage experience for our members, increasing efficiency and priming ourselves for future growth," stated Wade Painter, president and CEO of Monterra Credit Union. Dark Matter Technologies named to HousingWire’s Tech100 for innovation in loan origination technology

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- Dark Matter Technologies (Dark Matter), an innovative new leader in mortgage technology backed by time-tested loan origination software and leadership, today announced it has been named to HousingWire's 2024 Tech100 Mortgage list of companies shaping the future of the housing finance sector. HousingWire attributed the recognition to the cutting-edge technology behind the Empower(r) loan origination system (LOS), a comprehensive, bundled offering from Dark Matter that provides all-in-one mortgage origination functionality.

The Empower LOS takes a task-based approach rather than a linear approach to automating loan production, allowing multiple processes to run concurrently with minimal lender intervention. By tapping employees only as needed to manage exceptions, the Empower LOS streamlines origination workflows, resulting in significant time and cost savings for banks, credit unions and independent lenders.

"Our approach to innovation is tightly focused on helping lenders curb the runaway expense of loan origination," said Dark Matter CEO Rich Gagliano. "In the last 12 months, we've doubled down on our investments in automation, piloted new applications of artificial intelligence in the origination workflow, and opened up our API architecture to facilitate deeper collaboration with like-minded vendors. It's an exciting time in the evolution of the Empower LOS, and it's an honor to have that recognized by HousingWire with the Tech 100 award."

"One of the most exciting parts of my role at HousingWire is having a front-row seat to witness stunning innovation in mortgage and real estate," said Clayton Collins, CEO of HW Media. "HousingWire is dedicated to serving housing professionals with the full picture, and the full picture isn't complete without deep and insightful coverage and resources to help mortgage and real estate professionals uncover the innovators and solutions that drive growth and efficiency in the housing sector."

Since 2014, the HousingWire Tech100 has acknowledged impactful contributions to housing finance technology. View the full list of winners and read Dark Matter's company profile here: https://www.housingwire.com/company-profile/dark-matter-technologies/.
