The Memory Walk raises awareness of memory loss and strengthens connections between people living with dementia and the neighborhoods they call home.

“We created the Memory Walk to raise awareness in a way that our residents could also participate,” said Jennifer Vernoski, Hartwell Place executive director. “One of our goals is to help people living with dementia continue participating in community life with dignity and purpose. By walking together in the neighborhood, our residents and their families see friendly and familiar faces and feel their support.”

Hartwell Place and CMSS are helping lead the neighborhood Dementia Friendly initiative, which brings together businesses, libraries, health care providers, nonprofits and residents to make everyday places more welcoming and accessible for people living with dementia and their care partners. The effort also includes Dementia Friends education and the monthly Memory Café at the Edgewater Library.

The Memory Walk is open to the public and builds on Hartwell Place’s work to make Chicago’s Uptown, Andersonville, Rogers Park and Edgewater “Dementia-Friendly Neighborhoods,” with welcoming and accessible spaces for people living with dementia and their care partners.

TEANECK, N.J. /ScoopCloud/ -- C Diff Foundation announced today that the 5th Annual Global C. diff. Awareness Walks will take place on-demand, on a livestream, and in-person at Sims Park, New Port Richey, FL, and Brown Street Park Complex, Spring city, PA, and Milton A. Votee, Teaneck, NJ. C. diff. infections are one of the leading healthcare-associated infections facing local communities worldwide. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a Clostridioides difficile infection (C. diff., C. difficile), (formally known as Clostridium difficile) "has become the most common microbial cause of healthcare-associated infections in U.S. hospitals and costs up to $4.8 billion each year in excess health care costs for acute care facilities alone." Statistics provided by the CDC suggest that C. difficile cause nearly 500,000 infections in patients in the U.S. annually. In one study noted by the CDC, among infected patients, nearly 29,000 died within 30 days of being diagnosed, and more than half of those deaths (15,000) were directly attributable to a C. difficile infection.

"C Diff Foundation volunteering members have a passion to improve the lives of patients, families, and caregivers who have been impacted by C. diff. infections worldwide," says Nancy C. Caralla, Founding President, Executive Director of the C Diff Foundation. "At the in-person C. diff. Awareness Walks, a safe distance will be maintained, and hand sanitizer will be available to ensure a safe outdoor event. 'Let's Walk' presents educational information shared by health care professionals, and C. diff. Survivors, through on-demand walks and livestream options located on the dedicated event website: https://cdiffwalks.com."

Doggy Dash with the Sacramento SPCA on June 5, 2021

SACRAMENTO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Sacramento SPCA is hosting their annual Doggy Dash on Saturday, June 5, 2021 - and this year is sure to offer more than just another walk in the park.

Now celebrating its 28th anniversary, the Sacramento SPCA's Doggy Dash has grown into Northern California's largest 2K/5K dog walk and pet festival - with a goal this year to raise $150,000 in registrations and donations to support the life-saving programs that help animals and the people who love them in the Sacramento region. Donations from last year's Doggy Dash helped the Sacramento SPCA provide care to the more than 30,000 animals that entered their doors in 2020.

With restrictions still in place for large group events, the Sacramento SPCA is hosting its largest community event and fundraiser of the year virtually for a second year in a row. "Just because we can't walk side by side, doesn't mean we can't still walk together to save lives," said Dawn Foster, Sacramento SPCA Marketing & Communications Director.

An estimated 5,000 animal lovers usually gather at William Land Park for this special event each year, with and without their canine companions - to raise funds for animals at the Sacramento SPCA and enjoy pet-friendly vendors, demonstrations, contests, food trucks, beer garden, local entertainment and more!

Pet enthusiasts living far and wide are encouraged to join the Sacramento SPCA on June 5, 2021 from their homes, neighborhoods, parks and trails for the 2k/5k walk and also connect online to share photos and enjoy the event's live broadcast and pet festival. "By participating in our own communities, people and their dogs (and even cats!) who would not normally be able to participate at William Land Park, can now do so," added Foster.

The virtual event will be broadcast from the shelter's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/SacSPCA at 9 a.m. on June 5, 2021; participants will hear from Sacramento SPCA CEO, Kenn Altine and GoodDay Sacramento's Courtney Dempsey as they share how the Sacramento SPCA is helping animals and people in the Sacramento region and beyond, followed by a very special tour through the new Zoe K. McCrea Animal Health Center before officially kicking-off the 2k/5k walk.

Doggy Dashers are encouraged to share photos and video of them and their dogs walking and participating in the event's activities throughout the day using the hashtag #SSPCADASH2021.

As the only full-service 100% non-profit animal shelter in the Sacramento region, the Sacramento SPCA relies on donations from individuals, businesses, and foundations to support their life-saving work. They are local, independent, and do not receive funding from state or local government agencies.

Supporting this year's Virtual Doggy Dash by walking, sharing, or donating will help Sacramento SPCA continue to give more than shelter to the animals who need it most.

To register for the event or donate to help animals in need, visit https://www.sspca.org/dash.

About the Sacramento SPCA:

Founded in 1892, the Sacramento SPCA has been providing homeless animals with individual comfort, shelter, and love for more than 129 years. They provide compassionate medical care to tens of thousands of animals annually and offer a variety of programs and services designed to keep people and pets together for life.

In support of BOLDER ON THE RUN, the BB10K team is partnering with its longstanding timing, scoring and results partner, the End Result Company powered by Stack Sports, for the official timing, including the daily event execution to provide accurate timing and official results and scoring for each participant.

"This is an incredible event and we are so excited to be a part of its return in 2021," said John Adams, GM - Endurance at Stack Sports. "We are always looking for opportunities to innovate, and working with Cliff and his team on this idea was a real look at how technology can partner with event staff to deliver a great experience. BB10K is back, and an example for other races and the broader community of road running events that it's safe."

The BOLDERBoulder mantra, "Oh Yes You Can!" since 1979, is the battle cry which has encouraged participants of all ages and abilities to participate, stay active, get healthy, get outside, celebrate Boulder, Colorado, and honor Memorial Day and those who have given their life in service to this country.

This year the event will take its Can Do Attitude on the road and to the next level with a one-of-a-kind experience at the six unique courses, in Broomfield, Erie, Firestone, at the Greenland Trail in Larkspur, Littleton, and Loveland.

Each venue features a different course and each provides a unique experience and adventure, allowing every participant to take on the challenge of finishing a 10K by selecting their venue, their day and their preferred race time. Famous for its BOLDER attitude at its BOULDER altitude (5,391') each course offered is situated above 5,000' and provides for smaller race groups to run unimpeded during their specific time block over the weekend.

"Because we are able to time each participant, similar to the big race, we will be able to recognize the top 15 fastest times for boys and girls and men and women every age," said race director, Cliff Bosley. "Creating something new and different in a year where there is still an abundance of caution about CV-19, also puts us in a great spot where we can help participants to be comfortable as they assimilate back to in-person running as we begin preparations for the traditional race in 2022."

In its 42nd year with BB10K End Result has worked closely with the event anticipating its return. "End Result Company is excited to see this great event return in such a unique way and to provide the premier event with best-in-class technology," said Kevin Jandt, VP, Endurance at Stack Sports. "Providing our timing services just provides additional data points to BB10K to ensure the event is both competitive and safe."

"We can't wait to see you out there," Cliff Bosley, Race Director.

TEANECK, N.J. /ScoopCloud/ -- C Diff Foundation announced today that registration is open for the 4th Annual Global C. diff. Awareness 2K Virtual Walks. This year's annual events will take place online and will be recorded at the Morris A. Votee Park, Teaneck, NJ, Charlestown Township Park, Phoenixville, PA, Sims Park, New Port Richey, FL on Saturday, September 12, 2020 from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. ET. There will also be a superhero virtual show for super kids. Dr. Martha Clokie, Ph.D. will be leading the walk which will be recorded in Leicester, UK on Friday, September 11, 2020.

Registration is $20 per walker and complimentary for children 10 years of age and under. Learn more: https://cdifffoundation.org/cdiffwalk2020/

All registered awareness walkers will receive a t-shirt, giveaways, and educational material. Proceeds from the events will benefit the C Diff Foundation's mission educating and advocating for C. difficile infection prevention, treatments, clinical trials, and environmental safety worldwide. During these unprecedented times, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the C Diff Foundation effectively adapts to overcome the many obstacles developing from this global virus.

C. diff. infections are one of the leading healthcare-associated infections facing local communities worldwide. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a Clostridioides difficile infection (C. diff., C. difficile), (formally known as Clostridium difficile) "has become the most common microbial cause of healthcare-associated infections in U.S. hospitals and costs up to $4.8 billion each year in excess health care costs for acute care facilities alone."

Statistics provided by the CDC suggest that C. difficile cause nearly 500,000 infections in patients in the U.S. annually. In one study noted by the CDC, among infected patients, nearly 29,000 died within 30 days of being diagnosed, and more than half of those deaths (15,000) were directly attributable to a C. difficile infection.

"Every day the C Diff Foundation members work to educate and advocate for C. difficile infection prevention, treatments, clinical trials, and environmental safety while providing support worldwide," says Nancy Caralla, Founding President, and Executive Director of the C Diff Foundation. "Our dedication to the cause is making a difference as we share a common goal with government agencies and health care organizations witnessing a decrease in newly diagnosed C.diff. infections and saving lives. Our dedicated volunteering members, around the globe, are focused on improving the lives of individuals and families who are impacted by C. diff. infections."

We sincerely thank Vedanta Biosciences, Inc. for being the Diamond Sponsor of the 4th Annual Global C. diff. Awareness 2K Virtual Walks. Vedanta Biosciences, Inc. is dedicated to finding treatments for patients with serious infections and immune diseases. Vedanta develops medicines made of consortia of bacterial strains which are selected to effect robust and durable changes in a patient's gut microbiota.

In contrast to fecal transplants or administration of fecal fractions, Vedanta's medicines are pure, uniform compositions of bacteria manufactured from clonal cell banks, bypassing the need to rely on direct sourcing of fecal donor material of inconsistent composition. Vedanta is currently enrolling patients with recurrent C. difficile infections (CDI) in its CONSORTIUM study to evaluate VE303, an investigational treatment for CDI.

Doggy Dashing on June 27 – Walking Together to Save Lives

SACRAMENTO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Sacramento SPCA is hosting their annual Doggy Dash this Saturday, June 27, 2020 - and this year is sure to offer more than just another walk in the park.

Now celebrating its 27th anniversary, the Doggy Dash has grown into Northern California's largest 2K/5K dog walk and pet festival - with a goal this year to raise $185,000 in registrations and donations to support the lifesaving programs that help animals and the people who love them in the Sacramento region. Donations from last year's Doggy Dash helped the Sacramento SPCA provide direct care to more than 35,000 animals in 2019.

With restrictions placed on large groups events due to the COVID-19 health crisis, the Sacramento SPCA shifted its largest community event and fundraiser of the year from a gathering at Sacramento's iconic William Land Park to a virtual experience.

"Just because we can't walk side by side, doesn't mean we can't still walk together to save lives," said Dawn Foster, Sacramento SPCA Marketing and Communications Director.

"During these challenging times, when other shelters have closed their doors and cancelled events, the Sacramento SPCA has found ways to adapt and continue saying 'yes' to the community's animals and the people who love them," said Foster. "Saving lives isn't cancelled - and neither is the Doggy Dash."

Pet enthusiasts living far and wide are encouraged to join the Sacramento SPCA on June 27, 2020 from their neighborhoods, parks and trails for the 2k/5k walk and also connect online to share photos and enjoy the event's live broadcast and pet festival.

For the first time in the Doggy Dash's 27-year history, participation will not be limited by one's zip code. "By participating in our own communities, people and dogs who would not normally be able to participate at William Land Park, can now do so," added Foster.

The virtual event will be kicked off LIVE on the shelter's Facebook page at 9 a.m.; participants will hear from the Sacramento SPCA's CEO, Kenn Altine, meet adoptable animals, say hello to some very special community partners, learn more about how the Sacramento SPCA has continued to save lives during the shelter-in-place and witness a very special kick-off to the 2K/5K walk.

Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SacSPCA/

Doggy Dashers are encouraged to share photos and video of them and their dogs walking and participating in the event's activities throughout the day using the hashtag #dashreleashed.

As the only full-service 100% non-profit animal shelter in the Sacramento region, the Sacramento SPCA relies on donations from individuals, businesses and foundations to support their work. They are local, independent, and do not receive funding from state or local government agencies.

Supporting this year's Virtual Doggy Dash by walking, sharing or donating will help Sacramento SPCA continue to give more than shelter to the animals who need it most.

To register for the event or donate to help animals in need, visit http://www.sspca.org/dash.

About the Sacramento SPCA:

Founded in 1892, the Sacramento SPCA has been providing homeless animals with individual comfort, shelter, and love for more than 128 years. They provide compassionate medical care to tens of thousands of animals annually and offer a variety of programs and services designed to keep people and pets together for life.

Running Of The Bulls Only Sorta Canceled Due To Pandemic – 14th rendition of San Fermin in Nueva Orleans changes format, again

NEW ORLEANS, La. /ScoopCloud/ -- Nola Bulls, LLC has found a way to carry on the fun of San Fermin in Nueva Orleans with an online gathering of amigos.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the uncertainty of legal gatherings of more than 10 people, the organizers and brain trust of San Fermin in Nueva Orleans have opted for an online fiesta. On Saturday July 11, 2020 all are invited to join the team as they present a way to revel with the friends they normally see each year, but cannot due to the virus.

Annually since 2007 people have come from around the globe to enjoy the company of friends and the gorings of our Virtual Bulls, aka RollerBulls(tm). The team had to be creative in order to bring the fun and festive feeling of SFNO to their loyal fans. Notify your friends and schedule a socially distant/approved way to join in.

Back in 2007 some friends dreamt up the idea of recreating the famous Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain by replacing the four-legged bovines with two-legged RollerBulls played by the Big Easy Rollergirls roller derby team. What has occurred since is nothing short of amazing. Each year hundreds of roller derby skaters (aka RollerBulls) from around the globe chase down and whoop willing runners through the streets of New Orleans. It's all part of a great three-day fiesta.

The three-day event that usually spans many blocks and venues in the city of New Orleans will be shortened to a few hours, but expanded to venues around the world. Entry to this virtual wonderland is available via www.nolabulls.com.

Look for performances from our beloved local groups and bands as well as some introductions to fans that come annually to enjoy our beloved city and this wacky fiesta.

Founder of Stillbrave Childhood Cancer Foundation to Run 206-Mile Ultra-Marathon on Mount St. Helens Volcano

BURKE, Va. /ScoopCloud/ -- Stillbrave Childhood Cancer Foundation announced that its founder and director, "Tattoo Tom" Mitchell is on a mission to raise $500,000 to support children with cancer and their families. From August 9 through 13, he will return to Mount St. Helens to make his fourth attempt at what's been called "the most challenging endurance race in North America" - the Bigfoot 200.

The race is 206.5 miles and he'll be joined by Loren Jewell, a childhood cancer survivor and firefighter who beat the odds after being told upon diagnosis that she might never walk again. Pacing Mitchell and Jewell is Katie Healy, a pediatric oncology nurse who cared for not only Jewell, but also Mitchell's daughter, Shayla, while she was undergoing cancer treatment.

The Bigfoot 200 is Stillbrave's largest fundraising effort of the year and they hope to meet their fundraising goal through sponsorships and direct donations. Each mile is dedicated to a different child impacted by cancer and funds are raised in their honor. Mitchell and Jewell will carry pictures of these children and will acknowledge them at each mile.

After Mitchell's daughter, Shayla, lost her hard-fought battle with childhood cancer in 2009, he founded Stillbrave Childhood Cancer Foundation. He's dedicated his life to helping the families of children battling cancer in any way possible.

Mitchell's ability to console the inconsolable is an invaluable asset within the confines of a hospital room. Humor and compassion, and first-hand knowledge, are almost impossible to quantify and cannot be delivered in a gift card or care package.

"Shayla died in 2009. I'm not running this for my daughter; I'm running it for yours," Mitchell says.

About Stillbrave Childhood Cancer Foundation:

Stillbrave Childhood Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides non-medical support to children with cancer and their families. It helps them financially and emotionally, on a case-by-case basis, as they struggle with the toughest battle of their lives. Learn more at: https://www.stillbrave.org/

Walk with Us to Cure Lupus, Boston – There’s Strength in Our Strides!

BOSTON, Mass. /ScoopCloud/ -- Join the Boston Bruins at the liveliest lupus walk Boston has ever seen! The lupus community will gather for the Lupus Research Alliance (LRA) Boston "Walk with Us to Cure Lupus" 9 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2019 in DCR's Baxter Park at Assembly Row in Somerville, Mass.

"Walk with Us to Cure Lupus" is the LRA's signature national program that unites communities across the country to achieve one goal - to raise the much-needed funds to improve care and find the cure.

In lupus, the immune system, which should protect against infection, instead creates antibodies that can attack any part of the body. More than 90 percent of the millions of people worldwide who live with lupus are women. African Americans, Latinx, Asians and Native Americans are two to three times at greater risk than Caucasians.

"I walk to do what I can to help the Lupus Research Alliance raise funds for research that is needed to better understand the disease, so that safer and more effective treatments can be developed. My hope is that one day a cure can be found but until then there is much work to be done," said Malden resident and lupus advocate Mirian Alvarez. "Like so many with lupus, I have had complications. Participating in the walks and meeting others who understand what we face, it has been very therapeutic and has helped me face the challenges along the way."

The Boston Bruins are ready to make this day a true celebration. The mascot 'Blades' will be there to bring on the party. Free breakfast, snacks and activities add to the fun for all ages. Plus, Assembly Row is an outdoor space to shop and dine, so participants can make it a full day's outing.

Wheelchair accessible, the Walk route is 3.2 miles along the scenic Mystic River. Walkers are encouraged to go at their own pace and cover their own distance; it is not necessary to complete the route.

"Thousands are walking across the United States to raise awareness and funds for lupus research," comments Kenneth M. Farber, President and CEO of the Lupus Research Alliance. "Through the efforts of communities like Boston, this program has contributed millions to be invested in the most innovative and promising research that has led to every pivotal advance in lupus to date. We look forward to seeing Boston come out full force on June 1."
