Hundreds Gather at Chandler Center for the Arts to Celebrate Black Business Excellence During National Black Business Month

The nine-month program is designed to help small business owners scale, build operational capacity and access supplier diversity opportunities. This year, 23 diverse entrepreneurs will participate at no cost thanks to $100,000 in scholarships funded by corporate sponsors.

The recipients were officially recognized and spotlighted at the Black Chamber of Arizona’s 26th Anniversary Gala on December 13, where over 500 community leaders, national figures, and stakeholders gathered to celebrate economic impact and strides made to close the racial wealth gap.

The grant program was made possible with support from Wells Fargo in collaboration with Millionaire Mastermind Academy, a national nonprofit organization with a mission to end poverty through entrepreneurship. This collaboration was powered by the Black Chamber of Arizona to uplift and provide tangible support to small businesses striving for economic growth and sustainability. Businesses received grants ranging from $2,500 to $15,000, drawing from the total funding pool of $100,000.

This generous contribution will fuel the Chamber’s mission to strengthen Black businesses and produce new economic buying power throughout Arizona. The funds will support key programs aimed at empowering Black entrepreneurs, providing pathways to financial growth, and fostering greater economic inclusion.

For over 26 years, the Black Chamber of Arizona has been dedicated to closing the racial wealth gap by providing essential education, advocacy, and resources to Black entrepreneurs. Our efforts have centered on four strategic pillars: access to capital, access to contracting opportunities, digital and health equity, and youth development. Through these pillars, BCAZ has delivered over 15,000 hours of training, supported more than 1,200 business owners, and facilitated access to over $5 million in funding to help businesses launch and expand. These initiatives have also resulted in the creation of hundreds of jobs statewide. In support of the program's statewide work, Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs declared Jan. 26, 2024, as "ImpactAZ Day," acknowledging its role in advancing economic growth in The ImpactAZ 2025 faculty includes key partnerships from JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Arizona Public Service (APS), the City of Scottsdale, Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) , ViaWest Group, the City of Phoenix, American Landmark, Commerce BankAZ, and SCORE-Phoenix Chapter.

In its first year, ImpactAZ helped participants secure $2 million in contracts, expand business operations by 40 percent and allocate $300,000 in capital funding. Eighty percent of the initial cohort registered as diverse suppliers and nearly one-quarter hired additional staff. This year's class represents the second cohort of three.

PHOENIX, Ariz. /ScoopCloud/ -- Building on its commitment to supporting small business owners, the Black Chamber of Arizona, in partnership with the Millionaire Mastermind Academy, is proud to announce the induction of 30 entrepreneurs into the 2024 class of its ImpactAZ Supplier Diversity Readiness Business Accelerator Program. This multi-year initiative, a cornerstone of Arizona's efforts to enhance supplier diversity, continues to offer critical resources to justice-impacted entrepreneurs, veterans, and women-owned businesses aiming for economic success and growth.

The journey for diverse entrepreneurs begins on April 24th with a kickoff event. Participants will meet their mentors, listen to insights from public and private sector leaders, and undergo a comprehensive business and leadership assessment to shape their strategic growth plans.

ImpactAZ combines in-person and online classes, mentorship, access to capital classes, hands-on capabilities statement training, technical assistance, executive leadership training, and more. With $200,000 in scholarships from our sponsors, participants access these resources for free, highlighting our commitment to inclusivity and economic growth.

The ImpactAZ program was designed to increase procurement opportunities with corporations and government entities, preparing business owners to compete for and win contracts effectively. With Fortune 500 companies spending about 2% annually with minority-owned suppliers - significantly below the intended 10-15% - the Chamber sees a substantial opportunity for growth and improvement in supplier diversity practices.

Dr. Velma Trayham, the newly appointed CEO of the Black Chamber of Arizona, emphasizes the program's strategic approach: "With ImpactAZ, we're focusing on increasing contracting opportunities and access to capital. By responding to the data from the State of Black Business report, we aim to elevate these businesses from poverty to significant contributors to our economy."

The 2024 cohort includes businesses from healthcare, transportation, manufacturing, real estate, services, and technology, demonstrating the program's broad appeal.
