The message explained that keeping classroom doors closed during the colder months improves the energy efficiency of the heating system. Following the release of the email, the percentage of doors closed rose from 75 percent to 84 percent.

The district expected to save $81,885 on utility costs per year over three years, for a total of $245,655. Actual savings over that period are $409,681. Electric consumption was reduced by 32.4 percent and gas consumption is down by 24.2 percent. The savings are normalized, or adjusted to account for outliers in weather conditions and costs.

* Installation of smart exhaust hoods on kitchen units.

Solar Mounting Solutions’ Racking Systems heads into 2017 with NYS Code Compliant Design

The use of concrete ballast is a common alternative for solar installations that are unable to penetrate either the roof or the ground. Many New York business and building owners have expressed their interest in finding solutions for their low-sloped and flatter rooftops that will not make holes in the existing roof. Temperamental ground-mounts have some of the same issues with penetration as those of flat roofs. For example, solar arrays that are installed on top of landfill caps are not allowed to penetrate the liner.

These types of issues are exactly why solar ballasts were invented. To avoid making lasting penetrations, concrete blocks are placed throughout a project to secure arrays to the ground or the roof, preventing wind lift or any other movement. However, the problem with exposed concrete blocks is their gradual erosion over time having been exposed to UV light, moisture, freezing and thawing. This will eventually result in broken chunks of concrete rendering the ballast useless.

To meet concerns of both property owners and state safety standards, the latest amendment to New York code RCNY105-02 now requires racking ballasts to be fully contained to minimize deterioration. This was a direct hit to most solar outfitters who were backed into a regulatory corner in regards to their installation procedures.

Trotwood-Madison City Schools saves more than $260,000 after completing energy management project with Energy Optimizers, USA

Between July 2015 and January 2016, ICI completed the installation of DualCool(R) evaporative pre-coolers on 100 more Walmart and Sam's Club stores. Each of these stores now has DualCool equipment on six or more 10- to 20-ton rooftop HVAC units (RTUs) that supply dedicated fresh air into the stores. Installations were in Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, Nevada, and California. The 2015 program is the fourth major series of DualCool installations for Walmart.

The current campaign with Walmart takes DualCool efficiency, maintenance, and ease-of-use to a whole new level with monitoring and controls. For this program, ICI added remote monitoring and control technology with a web-based (dashboard) platform viewable from any browser, smartphone, or tablet. Remote monitoring outputs include fault detection, which can report general HVAC problems on DualCool-equipped RTUs before store conditions are affected.

Working with Transformative Wave, ICI customized an enhanced controls solution for Walmart. Equipment includes a microcontroller installed on each of the DualCool-enabled RTUs, as well as each Air Handling Unit (AHU), when present. One microcontroller per building functions as the Master Controller. This unit is located near the "global" outdoor air thermostat used to activate all DualCool units at an adjustable temperature setpoint. The Master Controller is the Wi-Fi communication hub between all DualCool controllers onsite.

In addition to managing the DualCool pump, these microcontrollers manage a number of interlocks between DualCool and key RTU components and can continuously adjust to supply outdoor air in the most efficient manner.

Kettering City Schools achieves 15 percent higher savings than anticipated on energy management project

TIPP CITY, Ohio, July 29, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Just one year after Kettering City Schools partnered with Energy Optimizers, USA, on a project to improve energy efficiency across the district, the savings are coming in 15 percent higher than expected.

In June of 2014, the district wrapped up a project to improve overall energy usage at all of its buildings. The district expected to achieve $240,832 in utility savings annually, with a 10-year payback for the $2.4 million contract. By the end of June of 2015, however, the district achieved a savings of $317,862. The savings are normalized, or adjusted to account for outliers in weather conditions and costs.

Oak Hills Local Schools expects to save at least $373,000 annually through partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA

The district will issue debt payments of approximately $330,000 over a 15-year period from their Permanent Improvement Fund to pay for the project.
