RALEIGH, N.C., Sept. 23, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Sokal, a full-service automotive advertising agency headquartered in Raleigh, N.C., today announced its expansion to more than ten OEM-certified partnerships, adding Stellantis and Nissan to its existing certifications with Kia, Mazda, Subaru, Hyundai, Acura, and INFINITI. Sokal is also now the largest advertising agency located within the Triangle, with over 150 advertising professionals in the area.

The new certifications give dealerships across the Stellantis family of brands and Nissan direct access to Sokal’s manufacturer-approved marketing solutions, aligned with each brand’s digital standards. This new partnership will speed time to market, simplify co-op reimbursement, and keep the customer journey consistent from OEM messaging down to the local dealer level.

“Adding Stellantis and Nissan to our roster is an incredible milestone for our team,” said Emma Voice, the Director of OEM Partnerships at Sokal. “By bringing our signature white-glove service and commitment to success to the certified programs, we empower dealers to trust us so they can leave marketing complexities behind and focus their energy on closing leads and selling cars.”

Sokal’s certified capabilities are delivered through its full in-house team and include:

  • Digital Advertising: Paid search, paid social, programmatic display, retargeting, and connected TV/OTT campaigns built around each OEM’s brand standards and each dealer’s local goals.
  • Momentum Websites: Custom, responsive dealer websites, built with Sokal’s Dealer Draft website builder, that maintain OEM brand compliance while adding personalized experiences, mobile optimization, inventory integrations, and enhanced data protection.
  • SEO: In-house automotive SEO built on proprietary tools designed to improve dealer rankings and outrank local competitors.
  • Creative & Production: Full in-house creative team and production studio, from video and digital content to traditional print and radio, tailored to each dealer.

With Stellantis and Nissan now added to its roster, Sokal further cements its position as a full-service agency for dealers across 13 major OEM programs, eliminating the need to piece together multiple vendors to stay compliant with manufacturer standards while still getting co-op reimbursement.

The announcement comes as Sokal was also recently recognized among the largest advertising agencies in the Raleigh-Durham area by the Triangle Business Journal, showing the agency’s continued growth as a full-service partner to automotive dealers nationwide. With now over 150 advertising professionals located in the Triangle area, Sokal is excited to keep expanding and providing best-in-class advertising to its automotive clients.

New book, ‘Who Gets Your Passwords?,’ helps families prepare for managing digital assets after death

Most older adults have planned their estates. Few have planned their digital estates.

ASHEVILLE, N.C., July 14, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Millions of Americans have prepared wills, named beneficiaries, and organized their financial records, but many have overlooked a critical question: What happens to their email accounts, online banking, digital photos, passwords, and other digital assets when they die? TheSeniorTechie founder Paul Wilczynski addresses that growing problem in his new book, “Who Gets Your Passwords? TheSeniorTechie Guide To Digital Estate Planning” (ISBN:‎ 979-8995501725), now available on Amazon.

Cover, Who Gets Your Passwords? TheSeniorTechie Guide To Digital Estate Planning.
Image caption: Cover, “Who Gets Your Passwords? TheSeniorTechie Guide To Digital Estate Planning.”

As more of daily life moves online, family members are increasingly finding themselves unable to access important accounts, documents, photographs, and records after the death of a loved one.

“Many people have spent years preparing traditional estate documents,” said Wilczynski. “But they haven’t prepared their digital estate. Families often discover too late that they don’t know where important information is stored, what accounts exist, or how to access them.”

A digital estate includes far more than social media accounts. It can include email, online banking, cloud storage, digital photographs, smartphones, subscription services, shopping accounts, websites, loyalty programs, and other online assets accumulated over a lifetime.

The book is intended not only for individuals and families but also as a practical resource that can support conversations between clients and the professionals who help them prepare wills, trusts, and estate plans. Wilczynski believes digital estate planning should become a routine part of the broader estate planning process.

Written specifically for non-technical readers, the guide focuses on simple, practical steps for identifying digital assets, organizing account information, protecting privacy, preserving family memories, and creating clear instructions for loved ones.

“We spend a lifetime creating digital assets without thinking of them as assets,” said Wilczynski. “Taking a little time to organize that information today can save loved ones a great deal of frustration tomorrow.”

The issue affects people of all ages but may be particularly important for older adults who have accumulated decades of records, photographs, correspondence, and online accounts.

“At its heart, digital estate planning isn’t really about passwords,” Wilczynski said. “It’s about making life easier for the people you care about.”

“Who Gets Your Passwords? TheSeniorTechie Guide To Digital Estate Planning” is available in paperback and ebook formats through Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0H7N336SQ.

New Workshop Kits Let Any Organization Teach Seniors Without Hiring an Expert

Ready-to-teach curricula from TheSeniorTechie cover scams, AI, streaming TV, gardening, and more

ASHEVILLE, N.C., June 26, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — TheSeniorTechie today announced a series of ready-to-teach curriculum kits designed for organizations serving adults 55 and older. Each kit gives a staff member or volunteer everything needed to lead a polished, engaging workshop on topics older adults care about, with no subject-matter expertise required and no preparation beyond reading the materials.

TheSeniorTechie Workshops
Image caption: Ready-to-teach curricula from TheSeniorTechie cover scams, AI, streaming TV, gardening, and more.

“Program directors know their communities,” said Paul Wilczynski, founder of TheSeniorTechie. “They know what people are curious about and worried about. What they don’t always have is the time to turn that into a full workshop. I wanted to give them tools that respect both their time and their participants.”

Wilczynski speaks from experience on both sides of that problem. At 77, he is a retired software developer, publisher of the TheSeniorTechie newsletter, and founder of TheSeniorTechie Press. His newsletter, which covers the issues shaping life after 55, now reaches more than 2,200 subscribers. TheSeniorTechie Press has published the “TheSeniorTechie Guide To AI for Seniors,” with a second title, “Who Gets Your Passwords? TheSeniorTechie Guide To Digital Estate Planning,” arriving in July 2026.

WHERE TO GET THEM

Workshop kits are available now at https://workshops.TheSeniorTechie.com. A free complete sample kit is available for download with no purchase required.

WHAT COMES IN EVERY KIT

Each kit includes a complete slide deck, a detailed teaching guide with word-for-word suggested language, student handouts, a glossary, a satisfaction survey, and a pre-class checklist. The teaching guide is written for someone who may have no classroom experience and no background in the topic. The instructor is never left without something to say.

The kits are built around two-hour sessions and are designed so that discussions, participant questions, and natural pauses fill the time without the instructor having to improvise.

CURRENT WORKSHOPS AVAILABLE

Senior Scams covers the fraud patterns most likely to target older adults, warning signs participants can learn to recognize, and practical steps to take if someone they know has already been targeted. The goal is to help participants feel more alert and less anxious by giving them language they can actually use.

AI For Seniors places artificial intelligence in everyday context rather than getting lost in technical explanations. The workshop covers where AI already shows up in daily life, what it can and cannot do, how to benefit from using the most popular AI tools, and how participants can think about its benefits and risks without feeling pressured to adopt anything new.

Cut the Cord helps participants understand the changing landscape of television. It explains what streaming services actually are, how they compare to traditional cable, and what trade-offs exist for different viewing habits and budgets. No product is pushed. The emphasis is on making an informed choice.

I Killed a Cactus: A Beginner’s Guide to Gardening uses beginner gardening as a welcoming entry point for participants who describe themselves as having no green thumb. The focus is on simple, achievable approaches that build confidence and encourage conversation among people trying something new.

TRY IT FREE BEFORE YOU BUY

Organizations that want to see exactly what they are purchasing before committing can download the Western North Carolina Native Plants kit at no cost. It is a complete two-session workshop, not a preview, and it shows coordinators precisely how the materials are structured, how much preparation time is realistically needed, and what participants will see and take home.

Kits are priced by the number of sessions: one-session kits are $49, two-session kits are $79, and three-session kits are $109. Each purchase covers unlimited use within the purchasing organization, with no per-class fees or annual renewals. New workshops are added regularly. Organizations with specific programming needs are encouraged to reach out directly at Paul@TheSeniorTechie.com. Wilczynski notes that kits can be developed in as little as two weeks.

ABOUT THESENIORTECHIE

TheSeniorTechie serves any organization that runs programming for adults 55 and older. Senior centers, libraries, OLLIs, churches, Area Agencies on Aging, continuing care retirement communities, and YMCAs are among the organizations that will find these kits useful, but any group that brings older adults together around shared learning is a good fit.

TheSeniorTechie is a publishing initiative dedicated to helping adults 55 and older make sense of the issues that shape their lives. Founded by retired software developer and author Paul Wilczynski, TheSeniorTechie publishes a newsletter at https://www.TheSeniorTechie.com, curriculum kits for organizations at https://workshops.TheSeniorTechie.com, and books for older adults through TheSeniorTechie Press, available on Amazon. Ethical Advocate Releases ADA Title II-Compliant Version of Its Online Ethics Reporting Platform

Updated Application Meets WCAG 2.1 Level AA Standards Ahead of April 24, 2026 Federal Compliance Deadline

CHAPEL HILL, N.C., April 6, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Ethical Advocate, a Chapel Hill-based provider of ethics and compliance reporting solutions, today announced the release of an updated version of its Ethical Advocate online web application, designed to meet the accessibility requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The updated platform fully conforms to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the federal standard now required for all state and local government websites and mobile applications.

Under the U.S. Department of Justice’s final rule implementing Title II of the ADA, jurisdictions with populations of 50,000 or more are required to achieve full WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance by April 24, 2026. This federal requirement ensures that digital services provided by government entities are accessible to all people, including those with disabilities, and reflects a broader national commitment to inclusion and equitable access to public services.

The refreshed Ethical Advocate platform incorporates a comprehensive suite of accessibility improvements, including enhanced screen reader compatibility, keyboard navigation support, improved color contrast ratios, descriptive alternative text for images, and accessible form design — all aligned with WCAG 2.1 Level AA success criteria. Government agencies and other public-sector clients using the Ethical Advocate application can now confidently meet their compliance obligations while continuing to provide their employees, constituents, and stakeholders with a secure and anonymous reporting channel.

“Accessibility is not a feature — it is a foundation,” said Shelby Schultz, Marketing and Sales Executive at Ethical Advocate. “Our mission is to ensure every individual, regardless of ability, has equal access to the tools that support ethical, transparent governance. This release reflects our commitment to building technology that truly serves everyone.”

“We’ve heard consistently from our customers and prospects about how important application accessibility is for their stakeholders,” said Schultz. “This release directly responds to that need. We want every government agency and organization we work with to feel confident that their reporting platform is open, inclusive, and fully compliant well ahead of the federal deadline.”

Ethical Advocate’s platform is used by government agencies, nonprofits, public, and private organizations to manage ethics hotlines, incident reporting, and compliance workflows. The application’s cloud-based architecture and commitment to continuous improvement position it as a long-term partner for organizations navigating evolving legal and accessibility standards.

State and local government agencies seeking to achieve ADA Title II compliance are encouraged to contact Ethical Advocate to learn more about the updated platform and how it can support their accessibility and ethics reporting needs.

Rice Park Acquires Rosegate Mortgage, Enhancing End-to-End Mortgage Capabilities and MSR Investment Platform

CHARLOTTE, N.C. and PLYMOUTH, Minn., Nov. 14, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Rice Park Capital Management LP (“Rice Park”), a Minneapolis-based private investment firm specializing in mortgage servicing rights (MSRs), announced today that it has acquired Rosegate Mortgage, LLC (“Rosegate Mortgage”), NMLS #2020757, a retail and consumer-direct mortgage lender headquartered in Charlotte, NC. This strategic acquisition expands Rice Park’s capabilities across the mortgage value chain, supporting both MSR recapture and retention strategies while reinforcing its commitment to supporting originator partners.

Rice Park Acquires Rosegate Mortgage, Enhancing End-to-End Mortgage Capabilities and MSR Investment Platform
Image caption: Rice Park Acquires Rosegate Mortgage, Enhancing End-to-End Mortgage Capabilities and MSR Investment Platform.

The integration of Rosegate allows Rice Park to selectively perform recapture across its MSR holdings, which Rice Park believes will enhance returns and mitigate prepayment risk, while maintaining its strong alignment with third-party originators who rely on Rice Park for capital solutions, MSR liquidity and customer retention. To manage this dynamic, Rice Park has developed a dual-channel strategy:

  • For MSR acquisitions with embedded recapture partnerships, Rice Park will support and respect those relationships.
  • For MSRs without an embedded recapture agreement, Rice Park will utilize Rosegate to pursue recapture directly.

“Acquiring Rosegate enables us to offer a fully integrated mortgage investment platform that we believe enhances value for our investors through improved servicing retention and strategic recapture,” said Craig Freel, President and co-Chief Investment Officer of Rice Park. “At the same time, we remain fully committed to our originator and servicer partners. Our platform is designed to offer flexibility—providing capital and MSR solutions that preserve and support our partners’ customer relationships.”

Rice Park and Rosegate initially partnered in October 2024 to provide financing solutions for borrowers within Rice Park’s MSR portfolio, which includes approximately $61 billion in unpaid principal balance [*note 1] serviced through its affiliate, Nexus Nova LLC (“Nexus Nova”), NMLS # 2082961. Under the new structure, Rosegate and Nexus Nova are combined into a single operating entity within Rice Park’s organizational structure.

Rosegate will continue to operate under its existing brand, maintaining its headquarters in Charlotte, NC, and expanding its retail and consumer-direct lending operations.

“We’re thrilled to be integrated with Rice Park and are excited to build out what we believe will be a high quality servicing retention and recapture model,” said Bryce Bradley, President & CEO of Rosegate Mortgage. “We are committed to being a leading place for customers to obtain a home loan and a great place for our team-members to work. Now within the Rice Park family, we are able to introduce ourselves to more customers and provide a high quality experience while continuing to enhance our organization and grow both the consumer-direct and retail lending channels.”

Wrap the Woods Pop-up Art Installation to Save One of Asheville’s Last Remaining Urban Forests

ASHEVILLE, N.C., Aug. 11, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Save the Woods organization in Asheville, NC, invites volunteers, community members, and activists to an art action: Wrap the Woods on Saturday, September 6, starting at 9:30 a.m. UNC Asheville’s 54-acre urban forest and cherished community resource and wildlife habitat (aka “The Woods”) is under threat of development despite its status as one of the last remaining urban forests in Asheville.

A map of one of Asheville's last urban forest - 54 acres that includes a great horned owl habitat.
Image caption: A map of one of Asheville’s last urban forest – 54 acres that includes a great horned owl habitat.

Today, as part of a multi-phase plan, UNCA proposes leasing the urban forest property to a developer who will erect a 5,000-seat stadium along with retail shops and market-rate housing. Community members are speaking out against this plan, including university staff, faculty, and students; members of the adjacent neighborhoods, which will be directly impacted by the development; and more than 15,000 petition signers.

However, after months of community action to preserve this forest, the university’s administration and the UNC Board of Governors refuse to change course. The Wrap the Woods event is intended to draw attention to the sheer size of the threatened acreage containing around 20,000 trees.

This art action was inspired indirectly by artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude, who were known for their large-scale, site-specific environmental installations. It is directly inspired by local Asheville resident Peggy Gardner who, in 1980, borrowed from the awe-inducing spectacle of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s wrap installations to save a then-threatened downtown Asheville.

At the time, city leaders and business-owners were pushing to demolish 11 city acres of the quiet, fairly empty downtown to make room for a complex containing a shopping mall and hotel. Gardner and other organizers envisioned an educational art installation, wrapping the blocks and buildings facing demolition to provide a visual of what would be lost.

Two hundred people volunteered to help save downtown, and today Asheville is a thriving city with a bustling tourism industry set against the charming backdrop of beautifully preserved Art Deco architecture.

Now, it is Asheville’s last-remaining forested acreage that needs protection. The Urban Forest is an important wildlife corridor, home to a wide variety of plant, animal, and bird life. It’s also an outdoor classroom for at least 18 UNCA course offerings in the natural sciences alone and provides recreation and relaxation within city limits for university staff, students and the surrounding community.

And less than a year since Hurricane Helene ravaged Western North Carolina, the community is still hard at work rebuilding from the losses wrought by the storm, including 40% of its tree canopy. To raze 54 acres of forest is to demolish even more of that damaged canopy along with an important stormwater mitigation system and carbon sink.

To draw attention to this cause, the community will stand side-by-side on September 6, holding up sheets to form a human chain “wrapping” the Urban Forest in fabric, demonstrating the impact of this devastation and to show objectively what is at stake for our community and our planet, and to preserve this precious natural resource.

Echoes of the Forest to Host Unveiling Event for First ‘Echo’ in Asheville’s River Arts District

ASHEVILLE, N.C., May 12, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Echoes of the Forest, an Asheville-based 501(c)(3), is thrilled to announce the unveiling of its very first Echo. This is a significant milestone in the organization’s mission to promote community revitalization, environmental restoration, and economic rejuvenation through art. The event will take place at Foundation Woodworks in Asheville’s River Arts District on Thursday, June 12 at 5 p.m. (details below).

The Mountain Man, a Hurricane Helene salvaged walnut tree. Proceeds benefit Echoes of the Forest
Image caption: The Mountain Man, a Hurricane Helene salvaged walnut tree. Proceeds benefit Echoes of the Forest and the winner will be announced on June 12.

Echoes of the Forest was founded to honor the trees lost in our region by transforming them into meaningful works of art. Through the hands of local artists, these salvaged remnants become powerful symbols of renewal—supporting the creative economy and showcasing the resilience of our artistic community. By placing these “Echoes” in areas impacted by natural disasters, the initiative promotes restoration, inspires environmental awareness, and strengthens community connection.

The Echo project represents a powerful blend of art, nature, and resilience, designed to honor the recovery of one of western North Carolina’s hardest-hit regions after Hurricane Helene. This first Echo is a symbol of transformation both for the land and the people who call it home. Created by Chester Shuey of Appalachian Joinery, this masterfully crafted piece is made from an 800-pound piece of Hurricane Helene salvaged white oak. It’s sure to evoke reflection and encourage hope and healing.

“When Liisa first asked me about getting involved with Echoes of the Forest, I knew immediately that this was a special project and one that I couldn’t wait to get on board with. Within a few days, I got my salvaged white oak wood and was ready to get started on my bench. Right away, I knew what I wanted to design. It’s such an honor to be included in a mission that would involve my fellow woodworking community; it just felt like the right thing to do because these trees mean so much and so does our artist revitalization,” said Shuey.

This first Echo is a true testament to the mission of this organization.

“We’re excited to unveil it in the River Arts District at Foundation Woodworks. This area was one of the hardest hit regions post-Hurricane Helene,” said Liisa Andreassen, founder of Echoes of the Forest. “We aim to inspire connection, celebrate community strength with economic revitalization, and highlight the beauty of our natural surroundings.”

EVENT DETAILS:

  • What: Unveiling of the first Echo by Echoes of the Forest
  • When: June 12, 2025; 5 p.m.
  • Where: Foundation Woodworks, 289 Lyman Street (formerly the PLEB) in the River Arts District (RAD).
  • Who Should Attend: Media representatives, residents of western NC, nature enthusiasts, and art lovers

The event will also include an opportunity to win a one-of-a-kind Echoes of the Forest masterpiece crafted by Mike Ayers, an internationally acclaimed chainsaw artist.

Raffle tickets can be purchased here: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/echoes-of-the-forest-hurricane-helene-art-raffle.

The raffle piece is crafted from a salvaged walnut tree that was the victim of Helene and depicts a mountain man with leaves swirling about his head with a tear coming down his cheek. Raffle tickets will be available for last-minute purchases and the drawing will take place at an after-party and “Meet the Woodworkers” mingle at the nearby Radical Hotel’s Roof Top Cocktail Bar at 95 Roberts Street.

Attendees will learn about future planned Echo installations in the region and will have the exclusive opportunity to be part of discussions surrounding community resilience and ecological restoration.

Whimsical Wings Farms Unveils Patented Shipping Box for Live Milkweed Plants and Monarch Butterfly Lifecycle Kit

LILESVILLE, N.C., April 3, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Whimsical Wings Farms, a leader in butterfly conservation and pollinator education, is proud to announce a breakthrough in plant shipping: a patented box designed to safely deliver one-gallon milkweed plants. Paired with the farm’s engaging Monarch Butterfly Lifecycle Kit, the innovation supports nationwide habitat restoration efforts and hands-on environmental education.

Image caption: Whimsical Wings Farms Unveils Patented Shipping Box for Live Milkweed Plants and Monarch Butterfly Lifecycle Kit.

The shipping box, co-developed by co-founders Donna Pless and Pamela Christian, allows for the secure delivery of full-grown, potted milkweed plants across the eastern United States. Traditional methods often result in damaged plants or root shock, but this custom-designed container ensures the milkweed arrives healthy, intact, and ready to support monarch caterpillars immediately.

“This patent came from years of problem-solving,” said Donna Pless. “Our goal was to make it possible for anyone – gardeners, schools, families – to receive mature milkweed without the risks of bare-root shipping or unreliable starter plants.”

In addition to the shipping innovation, Whimsical Wings Farms offers a Monarch Butterfly Lifecycle Kit, which includes a live caterpillar, a rearing habitat, fresh milkweed, and step-by-step care instructions. The kit allows children and adults alike to witness the transformation from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly, providing a personal connection to nature and the challenges monarchs face.

About Whimsical Wings Farms:

Located in Lilesville, North Carolina, Whimsical Wings Farms has a long history of pollinator education, butterfly farming, and conservation. With their patented packaging and educational kits, they’re removing barriers to environmental action and bringing the beauty of monarchs directly to homes and classrooms.

The patented box and Monarch Lifecycle Kit are now available for purchase at: https://www.whimsicalwingsfarms.com/.

Artificial Intelligence for Social Good Playbook – Now Available for Free Download

CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 2, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Apparo, a nonprofit that helps other nonprofits do more to improve lives in our communities through the strategic use of technology, is now offering a free, detailed guide the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). To quote the Playbook, “Leveraging AI technologies, nonprofits can optimize their operations, enhance their impact, and better fulfill their missions in the communities they serve.”

Stephanie McKee leads AI workshop for nonprofits
Photo caption: Stephanie McKee leads AI workshop for nonprofits.

Download the playbook here: https://apparo.org/artificial-intelligence-playbook-ai-for-social-good/

The playbook’s author, Stephanie McKee, Apparo’s Chief Technology Thought Partner, explains, “As a nonprofit ourselves, we understand the unique needs and concerns of nonprofits. We heard more and more from our nonprofit partners that they were interested, but apprehensive when it came to Artificial Intelligence. They knew it had important potential, but were worried about using it the wrong way.

“Like all the work we do at Apparo, this Playbook was created specifically for nonprofits. That said, there is a lot of information in the Playbook that is useful for any individual or organization that wants to improve the way they use AI. The strategies and tips are easy to follow and can help make big impact quickly to both new users and those who want to expand and optimize their use of AI.”

The Playbook details background on the history of AI from 1945 to present day, explains and compares current AI tools (e.g., Microsoft CoPilot, ChatGPT, Google Gemini), reviews key AI terminology (e.g., generative AI, machine learning) and delivers tips on improving AI prompting and applying AI to streamline workflows.

By applying learnings from the Playbook, organizations will be able to create time saving efficiencies across departments – from administrative/back office to client service, fundraising, marketing, volunteer management and much more. Nonprofits and businesses interested in creating an AI strategy for their organizations will also find guidance.

The Playbook also addresses important AI related topics that are not as frequently discussed. It dives into ethical considerations, security implications and the development of organizational use policies. Training is another important topic covered, with a detailed list of free resources for increasing AI education for individuals and teams. As the Playbook explains, AI is not just for saving time. It’s also for generating new ideas, improving writing, finding new patterns in data, engaging with donors and much more.

McKee adds, “I’m passionate about helping nonprofits achieve more through technology and stay up-to-date on the most powerful ways to affordably use new tools. I will continue to update the Playbook on a regular basis to ensure that it delivers the most current, useful information possible.”

Apparo delivers AI and other technology education leveraging McKee’s expertise, that of the entire Apparo Tech Therapy® team and through the generosity of volunteers. Apparo seeks skilled volunteers to work remotely, individually or in teams to support nonprofits in improving their use of technology. Learn more about volunteering with Apparo here: https://apparo.org/volunteers.

In late 2024, Apparo led two important half-day events to help educate nonprofits on the use of AI to further their missions. First, they offered a half-day workshop for nonprofits, entitled “How to Put AI to Work for Your Nonprofit.” The workshop included an overview of the Playbook by McKee, a panel discussion (with Apparo’s Jennifer Ray, Kevin Carney of Kingsmen Software, and Truist’s Joe Fuqua) bringing to life real world AI use cases and a hands-on prompting exercise led by Shereese Floyd, Founder of AI Consultants for Nonprofits.

Read more about the workshop here: https://apparo.org/how-to-put-ai-to-work-for-your-nonprofit-ai-playbook-panel-and-prompting.

The second event was a deep dive into AI prompting. Apparo brought together 40+ skilled volunteers from AvidXchange, EY and Honeywell who helped nine nonprofits identify new ways to use AI to improve the way they work and flesh out helpful AI prompts. The nonprofits served were: Carolina Youth Coalition, Heart Math Tutoring, Digi-Bridge, Hope Haven, The Park CDC, Dottie Rose Foundation, The Boost Pad, Beattie’s Ford Road Vocational Trade Center, and Feeding Charlotte. After the session, Lauren Grant, Director of Development and Communications from participating nonprofit, The Park CDC shared, “What I learned today will help me support and empower my team to collectively work smarter and ultimately achieve our goals in a more efficient and effective manner. I look forward to sharing these new insights and using AI tools to maximize our ability to manage our operations, raise awareness and support for our organization, and deliver meaningful programs to our West Charlotte community. This is the best professional development event I have attended this year.” Read more about this event here: https://apparo.org/ai-art-of-the-possible-empowering-ai-day-of-service/. Apparo is available to bring events like these to other organizations.

Strengthening North Carolina’s Resilience: Mold Inspection Sciences Announces State Expansion

Strengthening community well-being through conflict-of-interest-free, science-based mold inspection and testing in Asheville, western North Carolina, Charlotte, and the Research Triangle

CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 20, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — When Hurricane Helene swept through parts of North Carolina, communities in the mountains and beyond stepped up with sandbags, relief drives, and a shared sense of hope. Now, as homeowners and businesses continue to address long-term issues related to water damage, Mold Inspection Sciences (MIS) is answering the call to help ensure that healthy indoor environments remain part of the state’s broader resilience plan.

Mold Inspection Sciences
Image caption: Mold Inspection Sciences.

With more than 20 years of experience in 12 states, MIS specializes in unbiased, science-based mold inspection and testing, never offering remediation or repair services – an approach designed to keep assessments honest and conflict-of-interest-free. The newly expanded North Carolina operation covers Asheville and western North Carolina, Charlotte, and the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, recognizing each region’s unique environmental challenges:

  • Asheville and Western North Carolina – Cool temperatures and lingering moisture in crawl spaces and basements, more recently compounded by hurricane-driven rainfall.
  • Charlotte and Surrounding Communities – Rapid urban growth, older homes next to new developments, and summer storms that can lead to hidden leaks and humidity problems.
  • Research Triangle – A blend of historic properties and cutting-edge facilities where mold growth can quietly take hold, especially in humid conditions or poorly ventilated spaces.

“After Hurricane Helene, we heard countless stories of neighbors helping neighbors rebuild,” says Brandon Apple, president of MIS. “We see our expansion into this market as a continuation of that community spirit—ensuring the health and safety of everyone’s indoor spaces daily.”

In addition to comprehensive mold inspections, MIS offers specialized allergy testing, mold-related illness and CIRS protocols, and post-remediation clearance to confirm successful mold removal. The company also collaborates with all necessary healthcare teams to support patients who suspect their symptoms may be tied to mold exposure. By identifying the root cause of moisture and mold issues, MIS empowers North Carolinians to take targeted steps toward a healthier living or working environment.

Mold Inspection Sciences North Carolina is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Saturdays from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM (closed on Sundays). To learn more or schedule an inspection, visit https://www.moldsci.com/locations/ or call 704.800.4593.

About Mold Inspection Sciences

Mold Inspection Sciences (MIS), https://www.moldsci.com/, was founded in 2002 with a simple goal in mind: provide affordable, professional, and high-quality mold inspection and testing services to people across dozens of cities in 12 states. Over the past 20 years, MIS has successfully performed and solved thousands of investigations, creating safer and healthier conditions for clients in diverse environments.

Apparo’s Transformative 2025 Mission Possible Award Program Open for Nonprofit Registration

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 10, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Apparo opens their 2025 Mission Possible Award Program, a nonprofit accelerator sponsored by Accenture that takes nonprofits on ideation journeys to envision how technology can solve nonprofits’ most pressing challenges.

Apparo - Amplifying Nonprofit Impact
Image caption: Apparo – Amplifying Nonprofit Impact.

Mission Possible was launched to address Charlotte’s economic mobility crisis, identified in research by Harvard economist Raj Chetty, which ranked the city last among major U.S. metro areas for upward mobility and the Triangle Area slightly above, at 48. Apparo created this program to drive systemic change and uplift economic mobility across our communities. Now open for the 2025 season, this program has equipped organizations with the frameworks to expand their impact and improve economic mobility.

Each year, Mission Possible provides participants with strategic guidance from corporate skilled volunteers to create a proposal for a tech-based solution to maximize your organization’s work, with two lucky organizations walking away with a $10,000 grant and up to an additional 50 hours of pro bono consulting.

TRANSFORMATIVE IMPACT OF MISSION POSSIBLE AWARD PROGRAM

Hope Renovations, a North Carolina nonprofit providing hands-on training in construction trades for women and gender-expansive individuals, has transformed its workforce development program by implementing Canvas learning management system (LMS). This game-changing advancement was made possible through Apparo’s Mission Possible Program.

Hope Renovations, the 2023 Mission Possible winner, was seeking a solution to enhance training accessibility, engagement, and scalability. The organization provides a hands-on, construction-based workforce training program to help individuals secure jobs in the skilled trades, an industry facing a massive labor shortage. However, their previous training model relied heavily on in-person instruction, limiting how many participants they could serve and requiring significant administrative work to track progress.

Through Mission Possible, Hope Renovations worked with Apparo and skilled Accenture consultants to implement Canvas LMS, a leading learning management system used in educational and professional training settings.

With this technology-driven solution, the nonprofit has experienced measurable improvements, including:

  • 40 Percent Reduction in Administrative Workload: Staff now spend significantly less time managing materials, tracking participant progress, and organizing lessons- more than 300 hours of staff time annually on cohort communications alone.
  • Increased Trainee Engagement and Flexibility: With on-demand access to structured digital coursework, participants are more engaged and better prepared for hands-on learning. Trainees can review course materials at their own pace, making it easier to accommodate different learning styles and personal schedules.
  • Enhanced Scalability: Hope Renovations can now train more participants at once, expanding access to life-changing career opportunities. In 2023, Hope Renovations had 3 cohorts; in 2024 they have 10, and they now have a goal of 20 cohorts for 2025, doubling their service in cohort programs.

“This experience with Apparo has been a huge win for Hope Renovations,” said Sarah Campbell, Vice President of Training of Hope Renovations. “Technology can be something that really hinders nonprofit growth, efficiency, and productivity. For a nonprofit, hindered productivity directly impacts people’s lives so this type of work is incredibly valuable and sets nonprofits up for future success. I appreciate Apparo seeing the nonprofit need, filling the knowledge gap, and being there to support us.”

The shift to a hybrid training model, enabled by Canvas, aligns with Hope Renovations’ broader goal: to increase access to sustainable careers for individuals facing barriers to employment. With this new system in place, the organization can expand its reach beyond North Carolina, providing more individuals with the skills they need to succeed in construction and skilled trades.

Hope Renovations’ success demonstrates the power of technology to transform nonprofit operations and create profound, sustainable impact. Through Mission Possible, Apparo partners with nonprofits with potential for growth and provides them with customized technology solutions, expert guidance, and hands-on corporate volunteer support.

“We know that technology can be the key to breaking down barriers to economic mobility,” said Kim Lanphear, CEO of Apparo. “Mission Possible exists to ensure that nonprofits like Hope Renovations have the digital tools they need to expand their impact and help more people build better futures.”

“Canvas makes our training more professional and efficient. It instills confidence in our trainees, staff, and community partners. Growth is necessary to continue fulfilling our mission, and we couldn’t achieve this growth without a tool like this,” said Sarah Campbell, Hope Renovations Vice President of Training. “I felt so supported by Apparo and Accenture and am so appreciative of everyone who was involved in the Mission Possible process.”

Since its inception in 2017, Mission Possible—led by Apparo and Accenture—has supported nonprofits in streamlining operations, improving efficiencies, and scaling their services, proving that investing in nonprofit technology is an investment in stronger communities.

Nonprofits interested in Mission Possible 2025 can learn more and apply today through March 7 at https://apparo.org/mission-possible.

Election Audit Warning to 17 North Carolina Counties

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 3, 2024 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Frank Moseley president of Unirealm Information Systems announced a warning to 17 North Carolina counties that they must perform a special audit check because statistical anomalies indicate that presidential electronic ballots with no corresponding physical ballot may have been tabulated.

Frank Moseley
Image caption: Frank Moseley.

He still recommends that all 3,143 counties in the country perform this special check anyway as part of their standard post election audit checks in this and every presidential election from now on.

The foundation of computerized voting systems is based on the implicit assumption that there will always be an exact one to one ratio between every electronic ballots and every physical ballot.

Unfortunately that requirement depends on every voting system computer programmer being both 100% competent and 100% honest which many not always be the case such as when incompetent or dishonest computer programmers leave electronic test ballots that get silently tabulated.

Previously it was thought that only a 50 state hand count of all ballots in the 3,143 counties in the country could detect when the one to one relationship between electronic ballot and physical ballot was violated in a presidential election.

Fortunately two weeks ago he discovered an audit that can detect such ballots using the normal auditing technique of detecting incorrect totals by looking for small subtotals that are far from the normal values.

In presidential elections a super majority of the voters who vote in president race also vote in the House race, therefore we can use the normal 3% of the voters who didn’t vote in the House race as the that small subtotal.

The “Frank Moseley Presidential Election Audit” known by the acronym “FMPEA” is done by calculating the county’s percentage of these no House race ballots to the yes presidential race ballots.

A green FMPEA is from 0.00% thru 2.99%, a yellow FMPEA is from 3.00% thru 4.99%, a red FMPEA is from 5.00% and over which means a mandatory count of these yes president race no House race ballots.

The 17 red FMPEA counties in North Carolina are as follows: Beaufort = 10.57%, Cabarrus = 8.89%, Carteret = 10.72%, Craven = 14.65%, Dare = 14.95%, Davidson = 6.94%, Davie = 7.17%, Duplin = 14.89%, Forsyth = 6.86%, Guilford = 7.72%, Hyde = 14.50%, Jones = 13.86%, Onslow = 13.41%, Pamlico = 17.46%, Pitt = 23.49%, Rowan = 12.49%, Sampson = 17.65%.

He has sent each of these counties a warning letter requesting that they voluntarily perform this FMPEA audit to confirm that they are actually “flying pigs” statistical anomalies, and if they don’t, then he will file a complaint in North Carolina state court to order them to do it.

For more information please visit the https://fmpea.com  for detailed instructions on how to do a FMPEA audit.

ABOUT FRANK MOSELEY:

Frank Moseley is president of Unirealm Information systems and a computer programmer with over 40 years experience in application development.

He has programmed across four paradigm shifts from mainframe procedure oriented to client server object oriented to cloud service oriented and now to large language model artificial intelligence.

Attorney Faith Fox Announces Unique Self-Representation Consultation Law Firm in Acknowledgement of Love Litigating Lawyers Day

CHARLOTTE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- This year on Love Litigating Lawyers Day, August 31, one lawyer is turning the tables. While the date is typically acknowledged as a show of appreciation for lawyers, Attorney Faith Fox is announcing a unique firm that shows appreciation for the client, by putting some of that litigating power back into the client's hands. Fox, former Managing Partner for The Cochran Firm Charlotte in NC, has announced the opening of Fox Legal Consults PLLC (https://www.gottacallfaith.com), a pro se (self-representation) consultation service which provides virtual and phone consultations on issues of civil litigation, for a nominal flat fee, to clients looking to represent themselves in court.

After representing hundreds of litigants over the years, Fox wants to share her wealth of knowledge by providing clients with legal assistance, that empowers them to assertively represent themselves on their own court cases.

GottaCallFaith.com offers a comprehensive service designed specifically to support self-representation in court, by providing the knowledge, strategy, and confidence required to navigate the legal system. Whether it's developing a persuasive argument, understanding legal procedures, or simply gaining a clearer perspective of a case, each session will support clients with the information, materials and access they need. The consultation can eliminate the frustration of being in court alone, not knowing what to expect, and can prevent someone from having their case dismissed due to lack of preparation.

GottaCallFaith.com brings Fox full circle in her own legal journey. As a successful entertainment industry executive, Fox's life took a turn when her career path was derailed by a failed marriage. It was a tough custody fight and subsequent divorce in family court, that put Fox on the legal path she was destined for.

"When my ex-husband hired a lawyer to fight me for full custody of our son, I was not able to hire a lawyer. As a single mom receiving little to no child support, I could not afford the legal fees. My ex's lawyer operated unscrupulously, and before I knew it, I was sitting in court defending myself. When I left court that day in September 2011, I was determined to never allow that to happen to me again, and to prevent it from happening to anyone else, so I decided to go to law school," Fox recollects.

Fox ultimately finished the four-year, part time program in just two years, graduating cum laude with distinctive honors in pro bono service. She consistently achieved "Best Advocate" during regional competitions on the Trial Team Advocacy Honor Board, and launched her own firm, The Law Office of Faith Fox PLLC. In just four short years, Fox was actively recruited by The Cochran Firm to open a Charlotte office and serve as Managing Partner to the national firm founded by the legendary legal mastermind, Johnny Cochran.

GottaCallFaith.com returns Fox to her pro se roots, back to when she found herself alone and unrepresented in court, dealing with intimidating issues of child custody. "Throughout my legal career, I've represented several high-profile cases. It was the clients I couldn't represent though, that linger in my memory. Like parents fighting for visitation who could not afford legal services, or those facing challenges buying a used vehicle or renting property, and many other unique situations where people may not even realize they have a case. I've also seen first-hand how often marginalized communities and the economically challenged are pummeled in the courtroom because they simply can't afford counsel," notes Fox.

"GottaCallFaith.com will provide legal advice with the goal of helping parties understand the information needed to handle their own cases. Our flat fee consultation will be accessible for everyone! While I won't be taking on any of these cases, I'm working to create an extensive referral list of attorneys willing to work with the average-income client, versus only wealthy ones. Referrals to counsel will include my consultation notes, to avoid any additional charges to the client," adds Faith.

Attorney Faith Fox is admitted to the Bar and licensed in the states of North Carolina and New Jersey. Contact her at https://www.gottacallfaith.com/.

Tax Attorney to Millionaires Among Nation’s Best by Chambers USA, Defends High Stakes Tax Cases Before the IRS

GREENSBORO, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- Petrova Law, a boutique tax law firm, which represents high net worth clients and companies nationwide, has been ranked by Chambers USA among the nation's best for its work on complex and high-stakes tax law matters.

Chambers USA, a premier legal data provider, publishes the most prestigious legal rankings in the United States. The rankings are so demanding in their selection that only two percent (2%) of lawyers and 0.5% of law firms in the United States make the cut. It is truly a client's guide to the best of the best in law.

"I am honored by the recognition. This is like the Oscars, but for law firms and lawyers," Attorney Allie Petrova describes her law firm's recent honor as a Band 2 tax law firm by Chambers USA. "Chambers rankings give a voice to the complexity of the work we do and the care we take to deliver the highest level of results-driven client service in the tax realm."

Only seven North Carolina firms in tax law were recognized by Chambers USA with the high honor this year. The selection utilizes a rigorous and independent research process, ranking lawyers based on legal skills, caliber, professional conduct, and client service among other criteria valued by clients.

"We maintain a reputation for excellence. We are known for handling high stakes matters in tax law, when very significant amounts are in question," says Ms. Petrova. Many of Petrova Law's clients are multi-millionaires and large companies, for whom omissions in tax filings can have a snowball effect when combined with penalties and interest over a number of years.

Petrova Law's Tax department advises business owners, investors, and growth-oriented businesses on business tax matters. The firm represents clients before the United States Tax Court, the Internal Revenue Service, and the state taxing authorities. Attorney Petrova and her team tackle some of the most challenging cases in asset protection and tax structuring, tax-related litigation, IRS audits and administrative appeals.

Ms. Allie Petrova, an experienced tax lawyer from North Carolina, is distinguished to be among a handful of lawyers in her field with a Chambers USA recognition in the state. Chambers USA ranks law firms and lawyers separately. Ms. Petrova is highlighted as a preeminent practitioner for her strength in assisting clients with tax structuring and with legal representation in disputes before the IRS.

"Creating a guided step-by-step process for a stress-free client experience rooted in discretion is a pillar in our work," explains Ms. Petrova. It all starts with a user-friendly visit to the firm's website at www.petrovalaw.com, where clients can arrange a private and confidential consultation with one of the firm's attorneys.

About Petrova Law:

Petrova Law is a national tax law firm which exclusively represents high-income taxpayers and businesses with high-stakes, high-value tax debt before the IRS and state tax authorities.

Cooking with Bears? Cottage Cooking in Asheville Does It

ASHEVILLE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- While it may not happen all the time, there have been several instances when Cottage Cooking, a cooking class business in Asheville, North Carolina, has guests who are treated to a real show. Most recently, a family of four bears - a mama and her three teenagers - decided to take a long family nap in the business' backyard.

"We like to joke that we have some of the best trash on the street," John Godts, co-owner, Cottage Cooking, says. "Our 'Elegant Evening Out' class is one of the bears' favorite times to visit as salmon is the main course."

Cottage Cooking has been in business for more than nine years and it enjoys a variety of guests - both tourists and locals alike. The business offers about 20 different menus from which to choose and many are "bear-friendly."

Liisa Andreassen, Cottage Cooking's other owner, says the bears also like to sniff around after the New Orleans' jambalaya class.

"Apparently, those shrimp shells are quite irresistible," she says.

The couple has managed to bearproof their cans and it works - for the most part. Occasionally, the bears do manage to team up and get their paws on something tasty. And after a nibble, they like to take a little nap.

"Our guests love the unusual dimension that our Asheville bears bring to the class cooking class activities - as long as they eat inside," she laughs. "The guests that is!"

Watch a video here that showcases the Cottage Cooking property and the interesting spots where the bears can let it all hang loose: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8mm0l-RLD4&t=29s

About Cottage Cooking:

Cottage Cooking can host up to six in their cottage-style home in North Asheville and they will also go off site to people's homes and Airbnb's for larger groups of up to 12, so people can host their own cooking class.

"It's a fun alternative to a dinner party," Andreassen adds.

Cooking classes are designed for the home cook and a typical class includes an appetizer, main course and dessert. There's also a weekend morning baking class once to twice a month. These classes make for a great date night or ladies' night out.

The company has built a reputation in the business for hosting fun bachelorette parties and family reunions. In addition to a schedule which can be found on their website, they'll also design custom dates and menus as requested.

Classes range from $85 to $125 and private classes for two are $300. All classes are BYOB. Gift certificates are also available.

Tax attorney to millionaires, Allie Petrova, warns about new IRS tactics against taxpayers

GREENSBORO, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- It is official now: The Internal Revenue Service is going after high-income taxpayers who need to be filing returns, reporting income, and coming to terms with overdue taxes, penalties, and interest, cautions renowned tax attorney and national speaker Allie Petrova, founder of Petrova Law PLLC, a premier tax resolution law firm.

In its effort to improve tax compliance in the high-income categories, the IRS has started mailing out compliance letters to more than 25,000 individuals and families with more than $1 million in income earned during tax years 2017 through 2021. IRS compliance letters have also gone out to over 100,000 high-income earners with incomes between $400,000 and $1 million for the same period.

"Clients typically feel overwhelmed in these situations. It is important to not delay and to consult with a specialized tax attorney right away because deadlines are tight. The last thing you want is to miss an IRS deadline," cautions attorney Petrova, who guides taxpayers with high-stakes tax debt in the six and seven digits. Attorney Petrova works with clients from all over the country.

Curiously enough, this is all low-hanging fruit for the IRS because these cases were flagged based on Forms W-2 and 1099 received by the IRS from third parties. The IRS was unable to match this income data with corresponding returns, which indicated that these high-income earners received income, but did not file tax returns.

What does that mean to you? Make sure you open your incoming mail, particularly from the IRS and the state tax authorities. Muster some courage and open it right away, do not let it linger on your desk or the kitchen counter.

In some cases, the IRS can file on behalf of taxpayers what is called a substitute for return based on income reported on Forms W-2 and 1099s. That leads to exorbitantly high taxable income because the IRS does not take into account all applicable deductions. Then, the taxpayer has the daunting task to prove that this taxable income should be lower.

If a taxpayer hasn't filed tax returns for any of the immediately preceding couple of years, the first action to take would be having these returns prepared and filed after a consultation with a tax attorney.

"When a client came to my office recently, we discovered that her family - she and her husband - owed the IRS a balance of over $600,000. While she expected some balance due to non-routine transactions, the magnitude was a bit of a surprise. IRS balances can snowball with the added interest and penalties," shares tax attorney Allie Petrova.

The IRS has been strengthening its enforcement efforts for a while now. Thanks to Inflation Reduction Act funds, it finally has the budget and funding to be impactful.

Many of Ms. Petrova's clients are high net worth individuals who value privacy, peace of mind, and reliable solutions. "We look at tax issues from every angle and do everything possible to discover the best solution for each client and minimize the tax impact," remarks attorney Petrova.

Cottage Cooking Asheville Adds New Classes from the Big Easy

ASHEVILLE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- Cottage Cooking continues to expand its class repertoire. A recent trip to the great city of New Orleans inspired the owners to add Cajun and Creole classes to their current schedule. While visiting what many refer to as the "Big Easy," Cottage Cooking owners, Liisa Andreassen and John Godts, took a class on local fare to hone their culinary skills; they're happy they did.

"Our instructor, a Le Cordon Blue culinary graduate, explained that the class would be more like a chemistry class than a cooking class - and she wasn't kidding," Liisa says. "She encouraged us to focus on chemical reactions and interactions and to use all of our senses. It was a wonderful experience and one we wanted to modify to fit our style and bring back to our hometown of Asheville, NC."

Cottage Cooking now offers two new classes:

Creole Cooking; and the New Orleans Classic. In Creole Cooking, guests will learn how to make a delicious shrimp, chicken and sausage jambalaya. The New Orleans Classic (Cajun) features shrimp etouffee. Both cooking classes start with light and airy hushpuppies and end with Bananas Foster for dessert.

"Many folks that we teach don't realize the main difference between creole and Cajun," John says. "Want to know? The easiest way to explain it is that Cajun cooking typically does not use tomatoes or any tomato-based sauces while creole cooking does."

Guests who participate in these cooking classes will even get some Mardi Gras beads of their own to take home. So, let the good times roll or as they say in Louisiana, "Laissez les bons temps rouler."

About Cottage Cooking:

Cottage Cooking classes are designed for the home cook and a typical class is designed like a dinner party where guests prepare and eat an appetizer, main course and dessert. There's also a Saturday morning baking class once to twice a month.

These cooking classes make for a great date night or ladies' night out. The company also goes offsite so folks can host their own cooking class in the comfort of their home. Bachelorette parties, family reunions and corporate retreats are popular too. In addition to the cooking class schedule which can be found on their website, they'll also design custom dates and menus as requested for private classes - on or offsite.

The Cajun and Creole classes are $89 per person. Guests are invited to BYOB. Gift certificates are also available.
