EPIC’s Inland Empire Team Supports the Local Community in a Big Way

casualty insurance brokerage

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., May 10, 2016 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- EPIC Insurance Brokers and Consultants (EPIC), a retail property, casualty insurance brokerage and employee benefits consultant, today announced details of community support provided by their Inland Empire division.

Led by managing principal Dan Ryan and principals David McNeil and Joe Cotugna, EPIC's Inland Empire team has historically been very active in the surrounding community, supporting a variety of non-profit and community service organizations.

The Joyful Child Foundation has been one of the most significant beneficiaries. For the past two years, EPIC has been the title sponsor of a golf tournament directly benefiting the Foundation, which is dedicated to protecting children from predators and molesters.

In 2015, the "EPIC Invitational Golf Tournament" raised approximately $28,000 for the Joyful Child Foundation. This year's tournament, held on March 25, 2016, generated an additional $40,477 - for a two year total of nearly $70,000.

Said Dan Ryan, "We have seen the visible impact of our efforts around our community in advertising for the Foundation as well as their increased communications with sponsors and those they serve, including a new newsletter."

Erin D. Runnion, Founder of The Joyful Child Foundation shared: "The Joyful Child Foundation - In Memory of Samantha Runnion is excited to have the opportunity to bring our BRAVE Programs to the Inland Empire, thanks to the generosity of EPIC Insurance Brokers. Last year's gift provided training to community partner agencies that serve hundreds of disadvantaged children and we are delighted to have a Master Trainer in the area offering monthly programs at Operation Safe House and establish classes with the City of Riverside's Youth Programs. EPIC's support made it possible for The Joyful Child to receive a letter of intent to bring the BRAVE Curriculum to Riverside Unified School District, so that we can train teachers to deliver our age-appropriate safety education in every classroom. It takes a community to keep our children safe and EPIC is leading the way to empower every child to be brave and safe."

EPIC principal Joe Cotugna added, "We are proud and honored to be able to make such an impact in our community in support of an important organization like The Joyful Child Foundation."

EPIC employees are very active in their communities on both an individual basis and in teams. COMMUNITY is one of EPIC's 10 guiding principles, collectively known as "EPICness." Learn more: http://www.epicbrokers.com/epicness/#tabs

"We believe strongly in giving back and making a positive difference," said EPIC principal David McNeil. "It is an integral part of EPIC's 'people first' culture and values."

Geek Club Books Releases Digital Autistic Hero Comic for Inclusive Learning

The Mighty League

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., May 3, 2016 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Geek Club Books, Inc., an autism nonprofit, today announced the release of their interactive digital comic, "The Mighty League, Vol. 2: The Horrible Hug." This is the second in their digital and app autistic hero comic series created to help children understand their autistic peers and end the stigma of autism. The comic is downloadable via the Geek Club Books website.

The digital comic addresses the fear and anxiety of going to school, making friends and feeling acceptance for being different.

"We turned a story of going to a new school into a space adventure," said the organization's spokesperson and President, Jodi Murphy. "On the journey, our autistic star ship captain eventually lowers his shields and engages after learning the welcoming signs of friendship and acceptance."

The curriculum for "Horrible Hug" helps educators, teachers, students who are not on the autism spectrum and autistic students have a better understanding of the characteristics of autism and Asperger's Syndrome.

"It helps to dispel the false assumptions often made by the general education population that 'different' means 'difficult' or disabled," said Jayne Clare, "Horrible Hug" curriculum developer and special education consultant.

Both digital comic and curriculum help all children become more aware of their social and emotional health as well as those around them, learn appropriate social skills, and give students a "why they are important" overview.

SAN FRANCISCO: Health Freedom Rally and CDC Truth March

HEALTH FREEDOM Rally

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., April 21, 2016 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- LearnTheRisk.org will host a Health Freedom Rally and March demanding truth and transparency from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) on the U.S. vaccine system and expose the real risks linked to vaccines.

When: FRIDAY, April 22, 2016, 12-2 p.m.
Where: San Francisco City Hall, 1 Dr Carlton B Goodlett Place.

With the new documentary, "VAXXED," gathering so much attention and exposing massive corruption within the tax-payer funded CDC that has slowly and steadily become beholden to Big Pharma, particularly with regards to the recommended vaccine schedule given to American children. It's time to thoroughly examine potential CDC corruption and our broken vaccine system. Before age six, a child in the US typically receives 2-3 times more vaccines than most other developed countries, yet we have one of the sickest childhood populations.

There are thousands of studies showing the links between vaccine ingredients and numerous childhood issues, both neurological and autoimmune.

The following expert speakers will delve into the issue:

- Dr Kenneth Stoller, MD, a UCLA-trained pediatrician and former fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics

- Lori Greggory, Editor and publisher, The Mom Street Journal and former Wall Street Biotech & Pharma Analyst

- Brandy Vaughan, former Merck pharmaceutical rep and founder of LearnTheRisk.org

- Jefferey Jaxen, Medical researcher and investigative journalist

- Joshua Coleman, Videographer, activist and father of a vaccine-injured son

WHY: It has been over a year and a half (August 2014) since a Senior Research Scientist within the CDC has come forward with allegations of falsified safety data -- the very data upon which vaccine public policy is made. Congressman William Posey of Florida has urged Congress to investigate these claims and to date, no investigation has begun. Parents demand answers and accountability.

Since the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986, which eliminated any liability for pharmaceutical manufacturers, the number of recommended childhood vaccines has more than tripled and we have seen a decline in the health and vitality of our children as the US has one of the worst infant mortality rates in the developed world. There are at least 271 vaccines in development.

Since the CDC whistleblower's allegations, several states have introduced legislative bills mandating vaccines - such as CA's SB277, signed into Law June 2015. These bills take away our fundamental right to decide what goes into our bodies, as adults, and those of our children.

Background:

The United States recommends 53 vaccine doses before by age five, which is two to three times the average of other developed countries. The U.S. also has one of the highest infant mortality rates of developed nations despite spending more per capita on healthcare (please see: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3170075/).

The U.S. also has skyrocketing rates of allergies, asthma, leukemia, autoimmune issues, brain cancer, Alzheimers, type-1 diabetes, neurological and developmental delays like autism and speech delays. Most experts agree it's a mix between genetic susceptibility and environmental exposures - and this must include vaccines. Vaccines contain toxic chemicals banned or regulated in other areas of our lives - like aluminum, formaldehyde, mercury, polysorbate 80 as well as foreign fetal and animal DNA. It is NOT natural to inject any of these things.

Vaccines have also never been studied for safety in combination yet 6-9 doses are routinely given during childhood doctor visits. Many vaccine additives, such as aluminum, MSG and formaldehyde, have been repeatedly linked to neurotoxicity, auto-immune diseases and cancer. Currently in the US, vaccines are the only product that has complete liability protection, meaning if you or your child is injured or killed by a vaccine, you cannot sue the vaccine maker.

If vaccines are so safe, why must they be mandated and given complete liability protection by the federal government?

Geek Club Books Launches Autism EDU Educational Tools for April Autism Awareness Month to Bring Topics of Autism into Classrooms

James Sullivan

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., March 17, 2016 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Geek Club Books, Inc., an autism nonprofit, today announced Autism EDU, a collection of free educational tools for educators and parents to teach autism topics in inclusive classrooms. Video files, e-books, apps, student handouts and curriculum guides are downloadable via Geek Club Books website.

Autism EDU consists of three modules: 1) "Mighty League: The Terrible Taunting" has themes about bullying, friendship and understanding autism and Asperger's Syndrome, 2) "Mighty League: The Horrible Hug" has themes regarding social and emotional learning (SEL), and self- and peer acceptance, and 3) "Bluebee TeeVee Autism Information Station" dispels the myths surrounding autism through entertaining, educational pop-culture webisodes.

Each module includes curriculum guides developed in collaboration with clinical partners and educational specialists.

"The tools were developed to capture and engage students' attention, ignite their curiosities and inspire discussions," said the organization's spokesperson and President, Jodi Murphy. "We want to make the topics of autism approachable through children's stories and pop culture-style webisodes. The companion curriculum and activity guides make it easy for educators to integrate into their lesson plans."

"When I was growing up, I knew very little about my autism," said Autism EDU contributor, James Sullivan. "Neither did my teachers and especially not the other children my age. Autism EDU videos and stories will help them understand some of their peers who are different."

Ascende Wealth Advisers, Inc. named a top 100 retirement plan adviser team for third year in a row

Ascende an EPIC Company

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. and HOUSTON, Texas, March 10, 2016 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- For the third time in a row, Ascende Wealth Advisers, Inc. (AWAI) has been named one of PLANADVISER'S Top 100 Adviser Teams in America. Nominated by several clients, vendors and peers, AWAI now qualifies for the PLANSPONSOR Retirement Plan Adviser Team of the Year award - a prestigious recognition the team almost brought home in 2014 when placing as a finalist just three years into AWAI's existence.

"It's an incredible honor to be nominated three years in a row. It really is a testament to how hard this team works," said Rob Massa, Ascende - an EPIC Company Retirement Director. "It's a wonderful achievement to have our clients nominate us, but it also justifies everything we've been working toward the last three years-talking about fiduciary best practices and creating solutions that lead to participants' success."

To be considered, small teams had to advise more than $2 billion in retirement plan assets or more than 100 plans; large teams needed more than $3 billion in retirement plan AUA or more than 170 plans. AWAI has quickly earned its place among a list of elite retirement plan advisers. The team now manages $3.2 billion in assets-an incredible achievement for any investment advisory firm, especially one formed as recently as 2011.

Rob Massa and his team will be recognized at the PLANSPONSOR/PLANADVISER Awards for Excellence in New York on March 31, 2016. This is an annual networking event celebrating the country's top plan sponsors, retirement plan advisers and industry providers. "We are very pleased with the well-deserved recognition that Rob and his team have received and we are looking forward to growing our retirement advisory practice at EPIC with them," said Chris Duncan, Chief Growth Officer for EPIC.

AWAI is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ascende - an EPIC Company and was created to provide independence, protection and results to retirement plan sponsors and committees by fulfilling their fiduciary obligations with respect to plan investment selection, monitoring, oversight and compliance.

Launched in 2006, PLANADVISER is the only magazine to address the specific needs and concerns of advisers who specialize in institutional retirement plans, including 401(k) and defined benefit plans. PLANSPONSOR, a sister magazine, helps plan sponsors stay informed on crucial issues and innovative solutions.

Protector Holdings Acquires BetterWay Insurance Services

Premier Insurance Services

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., March 7, 2016 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Protector Holdings, a joint venture of EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants and Dowling Capital Partners, announced today the acquisition of BetterWay Insurance Services.

Headquartered in Concord, California, BetterWay specializes in providing insurance services to Hispanic consumers; writing auto, motorcycle, RV, boat, homeowners and renters insurance coverage from additional California locations in Fairfield, Sonora and Visalia.

"The addition of BetterWay to our Premier Insurance Services family continues to make Premier the fastest growing agency in California serving the Latino Marketplace," said Premier Insurance Services President, Rick Genest. "We now have a total of 34 Premier locations across California and the West."

Premier Insurance Services, acquired by Protector Holdings in 2013, targets the growing Hispanic Community in California, providing a wide range of insurance products and services specifically tailored to the cultural preferences of Latino consumers.

"We saw a growing dissatisfaction with the large agencies professing to serve the Hispanic Community and a clear opportunity to align Premier's business model and practices with the traditional, conservative culture and shopping preferences of Hispanic consumers, emphasizing convenience, honesty, service and value," said Genest.

"Respectfully serving the needs of the Hispanic community has enabled Premier to more than triple its customer base since June, 2013," Genest added. "The experienced, knowledgeable BetterWay team shares our belief in doing the right thing and treating clients with honesty and respect. The addition of BetterWay Insurance Services is an important next step in taking our vision and our client services to an even higher level."

About Protector Holdings and Premier Insurance Services:

Protector Holdings was founded in June 2013 as a partnership between EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants, a retail property, casualty and employee benefits insurance broker/consultant; insurance-focused private equity firm Dowling Capital Partners (DCP); and Premier Insurance Services.

Premier Insurance Services specializes in providing a range of insurance products and services to the Hispanic market in the Western United States. Since its formation in 2004 with a single office in Bakersfield, Calif., Premier has added locations across the state and is now one of the largest non-standard automobile brokers in California. EPIC’s Mark Niebuhr Honored as a 2016 Insurance Industry ‘Power Broker’

Mark Niebuhr

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Feb. 24, 2016 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- EPIC Insurance Brokers and Consultants, a retail property & casualty insurance brokerage and employee benefits consultant, announced today that Mark Niebuhr has been recognized as a 2016 Power Broker in the Manufacturing sector by Risk and Insurance Magazine.

A Power Broker is defined as an individual who stands out among their peers for the exceptional work they delivered to clients over the past year. The brokers awarded Power Broker recognition are judged based on their problem solving, customer service and industry knowledge.

Niebuhr's insurance career spans nearly 40 years and he has worked extensively with a wide range of clients in the wine, beer and beverage industries. Niebuhr's clients consistently point to his knowledge, positive attitude, responsiveness and advocacy.

Client Trinchero Family Estates (also known as Sutter Home Winery) took some serious hits during the Napa earthquake in late 2014, with substantial damage to wine in storage, including barrels and racking equipment. Niebuhr leveraged his industry expertise and his strong relationship with the insurance carrier to make a successful case for including the racks in the claim, recovering a substantially higher sum for the client.

"That was a good million-dollar plus swing in our favor," said Anthony Torres, the winery's principal, vice chairman and director. "Mark did a great job."

Said John Hahn, EPIC co-founder and CEO, "Mark truly embodies our core values of people first, innovation and responsibility. These beliefs, and all here who embrace them, are the reason EPIC has achieved such great success in a relatively short period of time. We are honored to have Mark and EPIC recognized by our clients and by Risk and Insurance Magazine, and we applaud and celebrate his achievement."

Pacific Pinball Museum Opens New ‘Science Room’

Pinball Science Room

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., July 9, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- In furtherance of its mission: to teach art, science and history through pinball while preserving this unique part of American culture, the Pacific Pinball Museum (PPM) will be recreating a room within its facility to strictly focus on teaching science through pinball.

Three new exhibits, hand-crafted in the PPM workshop, will make their debut as part of the collection on display at the museum Friday, July 10, at 7 p.m.

These original creations by PPM Executive Director Michael Schiess and his brother Christian, encourage PPM visitors to perform experiments in electricity, physics, and statistics, while teaching principles of electromagnetics, engineering and geometry. In addition, three more exhibits will debut at the PPM, titled "The Conical Slices." This trio of fun Geometry exhibits was designed and built by Dick Falkard, former exhibit designer for the Exploratorium.

"Boy am I excited about this opening," said Michael Schiess. "These exhibits are truly a lot of fun, and educational as well."

The exhibits are designed for use by visitors of all ages, and are included in the regular admission price which includes unlimited pinball play. Signage shows how the exhibits should be used to perform experiments that will spark discussion of principles underlying mechanics and modern technology, computer science and more. These pieces are the start of a series of exhibits that are fun to experiment with. They teach using the premise of engaging the visitor interactively with amusement. In "playing" the game, they learn a concept such as probability from the Galton Pinball Machine. The Pin Chime uses a steel playfield with magnetic bells and chimes to introduce geometry and physics. The Visible Pinball Machine is a centerpiece that is capable of sparking an interest in many areas from electronics to computer sciences.

"We're proud to display this unique aspect of our collection," said PPM Curator Melissa Harmon. "These exhibits show our commitment to educating our visitors while they have an absolute blast playing with them."

The Science exhibits include:

The Visible Pinball Machine - The first one built, this prototype translucent pinball machine still plays well today after near-constant play over the last 8 years. This one exhibit has inspired many to find out more about electricity, engineering and technology. Originally a 1976 Gottlieb "Surf Champ" 4-Player electromechanical pinball machine, "The Visible Pin" was completely rebuilt with a clear cabinet so that players and spectators can see how the machine works, inside and out.

The Gottlieb Reset Simulator Kiosk - This free-standing video screen loops a short computer animation of how a flipper coil works. An amazing video simulation follows depicting how the reset on the Visible Pinball machine works, highlighting each sequence electrically and mechanically. Electromechanical enthusiast Steve Fury created these high-resolution computer animations and has graciously allowed the PPM to put them on display.

The Pin Chime - This simple steel playfield features magnetic bells and chimes, and is perfect for introducing someone to the physics and geometry of pinball. This exhibit uses wooden balls and a regular spring-loaded ball shooter. The sounds emanating from the Pin Chime are heavenly and appeal to all ages as players arrange the chimes on the playfield to produce the perfect combination of sounds as the ball ricochets off them.

The Galton Pinball Machine - Named for famed 19th Century Statistician Sir Francis Galton, the PPM has recreated this scientist's experiment in pinball form, proving there is a natural order to the outcome of certain situations. A large playfield with many posts obstructing the path of launched balls, the Galton Board will produce a bell curve each game as balls settle into predictable locations.

The Conical Slices - Dick Falkard developed his "Conical Slices" exhibits for the geometry show at The Science Center in Amarillo, Texas. These fun to play exhibits always give you a hole in one. Using geometric shapes: the parabola, the ellipse and the hyperbola, a ball is aimed to reflect into a hole and it goes in every time, no matter where you aim it.

"These are quite satisfying for the inept since you get a hole in one every time you play," said Michael Schiess with a laugh. "You can't miss with these. Conical Slices is a little slice of genius you can enjoy and learn from."

The PPM Science Room will allow visitors to have fun while learning and may create a new form of sharing knowledge. This room's opening is the first motion towards expanding offerings at the museum that teach scientific principles. Among other productions, Michael Schiess will offer an Introduction to Electricity class starting Wednesday, July 29, 2015.

The Pacific Pinball Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to teaching art, science and history through pinball, and to preserve and promote this important part of American culture.

The Museum is located at: 1510 Webster Street, Alameda, CA 94501, USA.

SAN FRANCISCO: SB277 Protest Rally and Health Freedom March

SB277 Protest Rally

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., July 3, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- The Council for Vaccine Safety announced today that on Friday, July 3, Californians will rally simultaneously in cities across the state, to illuminate the truth and stand for health, safety, education, medical freedom and justice for all. Join us as we stand in sincere opposition to the unwarranted and threatening force of the government as it moves - in partnership with big pharma - to strip us of our parental, health and medical freedoms through proposed mandated healthcare legislation, such as California Senate Bill 277.

WHEN AND WHERE:
July 3, 2015 at The Golden Gate Bridge Pavilion near the Flag Pole, 12 p.m. Parking: Battery East Lot; Rally at 12, directly followed by a march across the Golden Gate Bridge. The rally will feature educated freedom fighters and experts on SB277.

SB277, which was just signed into law by California Governor Jerry Brown on June 30th, mandates that all children entering public and private schools, including daycare and preschool, have a full 35 vaccine doses, including vaccines that target non-spreadable diseases and diseases transferred via intravenous drugs and sexual activity. SB277 eliminates all personal belief exemptions as well as religious exemptions. Parents will no longer have the choice to decide with their doctor, based on their own child's specific health conditions, to delay or selectively vaccinate that child and have that child attend public or private school.

This infringes on the state of California's Constitution that states all Californian children have a right to free public education without discrimination. Discrimination includes discrimination based on health status. Currently under California law, children who actually carry diseases such as Hepatitis and HIV are, by law, allowed to be in public school and cannot be discriminated based on their health conditions. Yet children who are healthy and do not carry these diseases will not be allowed in either public or private school across the state.

It is a clear case of discrimination that targets families who choose to a different vaccination schedule due to another family member's previous reaction, countless hours of research on the toxicity of vaccine additives or even a sincere religious objection to vaccine ingredients (which includes aborted fetal cells and animal DNA).

The United States recommends 53 vaccine doses before by age five, which is two to three times the average of other developed countries. The US also has one of the highest infant mortality rates of developed nations despite spending more per capita on healthcare (please see: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3170075/).

Vaccines have never been studied for safety in combination yet 6-9 doses are routinely given during childhood doctor visits.

The Supreme Court has declared that vaccines are "unavoidably unsafe" (Bruesewitz vs Wyeth LLC, 2011), yet with SB277 California has moved to strip parents of the fundamental right to choose what medical treatments our children are subjected to. While SB277 targets children and their fundamental right to a public education, lawmakers are also planning mandatory vaccination laws that will apply to college students, hospital workers, school staff and the entire adult population. SB277 is a slippery slope and the first of many planned steps to strip Californians of their medical freedoms.

Through this fight, we have found strength and community. Thousands of Californian families stand in objection of SB277 for the following reasons:
• We as individuals have the right to make informed and conscious decisions about our well-being, and that of our children.
• The lives of our children must never be used as collateral, nor one child's life ever deemed more valuable than another. Our children should not be subjected to medical treatments that are "unavoidably unsafe" without parental consent.
• Every child has a right to receive an education, free from condition, prejudice or duress.
* Free exercise of religious rights must be defended under the First Amendment of the United States of America, without punishment.

The immeasurable and unstoppable power of our love for our children, families and our communities - immediate and globally - serves to raise awareness to the importance of retaining health choice and medical freedom for one and for all.

#### Rally and march sponsored by Council for Vaccine Safety and Million Mamas Movement ####

Council for Vaccine Safety (http://councilforvaccinesafety.org/), founded by a former pharmaceutical representative, is a non-profit organization focused on education and public awareness of vaccine risks while advocating for safer vaccines and medical freedom, a fundamental right.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., June 24, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Road Safe America applauds the passage of a resolution on commercial trucking by the U.S. Conference of Mayors at their 83rd Annual Meeting today.

"It's a tragedy when people are hurt or killed in needless crashes with heavy big-rigs," said Steve Owings, President and co-founder of Road Safe America. "Support by the U.S. Conference of Mayors is helping to raise awareness of this important issue and helps gain additional national support, and for that, we are very grateful."

Over 4,000 motorists die annually in HCV involved crashes and over 100,000 are injured. Approximately 1,000 HCV crashes occur daily in the United States, each one resulting in a multi-hour economic paralysis event.

The use of comprehensive collision avoidance systems has been shown to effectively help avoid the most violent type of truck crashes, when trucks drive into the back of passenger vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that requiring this technology would be extremely cost-effective.

It is currently legal to operate a tractor-trailer while using schedule II opioids, with verbal, undocumented, permission from the prescribing professional. The Large Truck Crash Causation Study conducted by the U.S. Department of Transportation found that the most commonly cited contributing factor when a truck driver was seen as contributing to a crash was prescription drug use.

The insurance minimum of $750,000 per crash was set in 1980 and has never been increased, even for inflation. The effect of this minimum requirement has diminished significantly as inflation has occurred, which is especially dangerous since trucking occurs 100% of the time on public roads.

Road Safe America applauds the U.S. Conference of Mayors for addressing these important issues that impact truck safety. The resolution was passed by unanimous voice vote.

Road Safe America is dedicated to reducing the injuries and deaths resulting from collisions between tractor-trailer trucks and passenger vehicles by effecting change to improve safety on America's Roadways. RSA is supported by private donations and has no financial ties to the transportation industry. The organization is pro-safety. Steve Owings and his wife, Susan, founded Road Safe America in 2003 after their son, Cullum, was killed when his car - stopped in an interstate traffic jam - was crushed from behind by a speeding tractor trailer going eight miles per hour above the posted speed limit on cruise control. Since that tragic event, Steve and Susan have worked to make our highways safer for all travelers.
