ACES Quality Management Named 2024 Best Places to Work in Financial Technology

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, has been named one of the 2024 Best Places to Work in Financial Technology. The awards program was created in 2017 and is an Arizent and Best Companies Group project.

This annual survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor the best employers in the financial technology industry. Companies recognized on this year's list operate in and serve companies and consumers in a wide range of financial services including banking and mortgages, insurance, payments and financial advisory. The 2024 list included 40 companies and was published by Arizent brands American Banker, National Mortgage News, PaymentsSource, Financial Planning and Digital Insurance on May 13, 2024.

"We know people are at the core of everything we do. It's humbling to have staff that understand and value ACES efforts internally and externally. Our organization's success wouldn't be possible without the ACES team," said CEO Trevor Gauthier. "Last year, we had the privilege of hosting our second annual user event, ACES ENGAGE, launched ACES PROTECT, broke audit volume records through our platforms with a 24% increase, and continue to focus on quality and compliance with our quarterly quality control trends reports and continued expansion of our Aces Managed Questionnaires and Compliance Newshub. These achievements are all thanks to our dedicated staff. We're delighted to be included on the Best Places to Work in Financial Technology for the second consecutive year."

"Though the fintech industry has faced many headwinds in the past year, the sector is still a vital cog in financial services, bringing ease of use and convenience to consumers and businesses," said Penny Crosman, executive editor of technology at American Banker. "This year's list honors companies that continue to innovate and create jobs for technologists."

To be considered for participation, companies must provide technology products, services or solutions that enable the delivery of financial services. Companies must also have been in business for at least one full year and employ at least 15 people in the U.S.

Companies from across the United States entered a two-part survey process to determine Arizent's Best Places to Work in Financial Technology. The first part evaluated each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. The combined scores determined the top companies and final rankings. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process, analyzed the data, and determined the final ranking.

ACES Q3 2023 Mortgage QC Trends Report Finds Critical Defect Rate Declines for Fourth Consecutive Quarter

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced the release of its quarterly ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report covering the third quarter (Q3) of 2023. The latest report analyzes post-closing quality control data derived from ACES Quality Management & Control® software.

Notable findings from the Q3 2023 report include the following:

* The overall critical defect rate decreased by 2.91% to 1.67%, representing four consecutive quarters of decline.

* Defects in the Liabilities category increased for the third straight quarter, whereas Credit and Income/Employment defects decreased significantly.

* Despite its improvement over the last quarter, Income/Employment continues to lead all defect categories, followed by Loan Documentation and Borrower and Mortgage Eligibility.

* Appraisal defects edged up slightly in Q3 after declining in Q2.

* Once again, purchase and refinance transactions achieved relative defect parity, thus firmly solidifying the market's status as being purchase-driven.

* FHA and VA review share increased in Q3, while USDA and conventional reviews declined. However, defect share increased across all loan types except conventional.

"With the last years' worth of defect data trending downward, it's clear lenders have gotten a better handle on loan quality after the alarming spike observed in Q3 2022. A natural result of proactive remediation efforts. However, we would be remiss in not acknowledging the corresponding decline in origination volume," said ACES Executive Vice President Nick Volpe. "While fewer loans may afford lenders the opportunity to intensify their focus on quality, it's clear that maintaining high standards amidst market fluctuations remains paramount. The persistence of this trend underscores the industry's adaptability and dedication to ensuring the integrity of lending practices."

Findings for the Q3 2023 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report are based on post-closing quality control data derived from the ACES Quality Management and Control® benchmarking system and incorporate data from prior quarters and/or calendar years, where applicable. All reviews and defect data evaluated for the report were based on loan audits selected by lenders for full file reviews.

"As a provider of QC management software, it's been especially gratifying to observe the industry bolster its QC efforts over the last several quarters. With the market inevitably poised for shifts, lenders are now better equipped to manage changes in volume and adapt to regulatory changes," said ACES CEO Trevor Gauthier. "Last year, the lenders that thrived were those who embraced quality control and proactively prepared for the evolving market landscape. We eagerly anticipate witnessing lenders maintain their steadfast commitment to prioritizing quality as they navigate future market dynamics."

ACES Quality Management Releases Call Monitoring Audit Pack to Enhance Mortgage Quality Control and Compliance Programs

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, has announced its newest product offering, ACES Call Monitoring Audit Pack. The pre-built, configurable Call Monitoring Audit Pack enables lenders and servicers to establish an additional layer of protection quickly and seamlessly within their QC program. ACES Call Monitoring Audit Pack includes custom data fields, ACES managed questionnaires and custom reports configurable to the individual organizations' business needs.

"With the rise in higher escrow charges from insurance and property taxes, we expect banks and mortgage servicers will see an uptick in consumer calls, thus creating a clear need for a call monitoring tool as part of their overall quality control program," said ACES CEO Trevor Gauthier. "With so many guidelines to adhere to, a robust Call Monitoring program is critical to identifying where improvements are needed to protect your organization from regulatory and reputational risk."

Call Monitoring is essential to any substantial risk management program as required by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPFA) and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, as well as state-specific laws. While ACES users have always been able to perform call monitoring audits by leveraging ACES' robust customization capabilities, the new ACES Call Monitoring Audit Pack gives our customers a starting point to quickly and easily leverage the pre-built features. * Identify agent skill gaps as input for coaching and training needs;

* Increase productivity; and

* Ensure regulatory compliance to avoid high penalty fines.

"Given all the economic and environmental change in recent years, servicers have felt the brunt of it all. From COVID-19 to natural disasters, they have been on the frontlines of borrower communications. As regulators turn their attention to call monitoring to ensure consumer protection, at a minimum, servicers need to take action through QC tech to show regulators they are utilizing their resources effectively," added Gauthier.

ACES Audit Volume Increases 24%, Hits Record High in 2023

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced that, despite challenging mortgage market conditions, the company maintained a record growth path achieved over the last few years by adding more than a dozen of the leading lenders in the U.S. to its client roster in 2023. Combined with many longtime, quality-conscious customers, this growth resulted in a 24% increase in audit volume totaling more than 7.7 million audits across hundreds of millions of dollars of real estate transactions. New logos added to the ACES portfolio include a top-five credit union, one of the largest homebuilders in the country, a large national outsourcer, the largest bank in Pennsylvania and a state housing finance authority.

From a technology perspective, one of the company's most significant accomplishments in 2023 was the official launch of ACES PROTECT, a suite of automated regulatory compliance tests designed to reduce audit time and enhance oversight by incorporating automatic compliance testing into the overall quality control (QC) auditing environment. ACES also introduced several enhancements to its free Compliance NewsHub weekly newsletter and website, enabling users to filter the events calendar and recent news for easier navigation. The company also published nearly 460 articles and over 160 calendar items to the Compliance NewsHub, thus helping financial services QC, compliance and risk professionals stay current on the latest regulatory and investor requirements.

"2023 continued to be a challenging year for mortgage and financial services professionals; however, the downward trend in critical defect rates over the last few quarters of the year, as shown in our quarterly Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report, indicates that lenders and financial institutions are taking QC seriously," ACES CEO Trevor Gauthier said. "While the outlook for 2024 is more favorable, lenders and financial institutions must continue to prioritize loan quality and risk mitigation to ensure they can enjoy the spoils of a more fruitful lending environment. As always, ACES remains a steadfast partner in helping lending organizations maintain compliance and preserve the integrity of their originations and operations."

ACES initiatives contribute to keeping tens of thousands of financial professionals informed about the latest defect trends in the industry. Additional 2023 achievements for ACES include:

* President and Chief Operating Officer Phillip McCall's selection as a HW Vanguard award winner by HousingWire magazine;

* An expanded partnership program with ActiveComply;

* Inclusion in HousingWire's annual TECH100 awards program for the ninth consecutive year;

* CEO Trevor Gauthier's selection as an "Industry Titan" by National Mortgage Professional (NMP) magazine;

* Recognition by The Denver Post in its "Top Workplaces 2023" list and

* Being named one of the 2023 Best Places to Work in Financial Technology by Arizent and Best Companies Group.

ACES Q2 2023 Mortgage QC Trends Report Finds Critical Defect Rate Declines for Third Consecutive Quarter

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced the release of its quarterly ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report covering the second quarter (Q2) of 2023. The latest report analyzes post-closing quality control data derived from ACES Quality Management & Control® software.

Notable findings from the Q2 2023 report include the following:

* The overall critical defect rate decreased by 3.37% to 1.72%, marking the third consecutive quarter of decline.

* Defects in the Credit and Liabilities categories increased for the second straight quarter.

* While Income/Employment and Assets continued to improve, these remain the top two defect categories for Q2 2023, followed by Loan Documentation at No. 3.

* Analysis of the core underwriting sub-categories showed dramatic improvement in Asset Eligibility from Q1, whereas Credit Documentation and Income/Employment quality deteriorated significantly.

* After increasing slightly in Q1, Appraisal defects declined in Q2.

* Q2 marked the third consecutive quarter where purchase and refinance transactions achieved relative defect parity.

* Last quarter's improvement in FHA defects proved momentary, as defects rose this quarter, outstripping review share. Defects decreased across USDA, VA and conventional loans, with VA loans experiencing the most improvement.

"The downward trend in critical defect rates over the last few quarters speaks to the care lenders are putting into each loan. At a time when every loan originated matters, lenders are taking quality control seriously and doing all they can to prevent buyback requests from the GSEs," said ACES Executive Vice President Nick Volpe. "Critical defect rates continue to trend in the right direction, and now, with interest rates trending down at the time of this report, we're looking forward to seeing lenders maintain high loan quality as the market once again changes."

Findings for the Q2 2023 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report are based on post-closing quality control data derived from the ACES Quality Management and Control® benchmarking system and incorporate data from prior quarters and/or calendar years, where applicable. All reviews and defect data evaluated for the report were based on loan audits selected by lenders for full file reviews.

"Our findings for Q2 have been a welcoming of positive news, and with continued predictions for a more robust origination environment in 2024, the future looks bright for lenders that have survived the drop in volume and increased QC scrutiny," said ACES CEO Trevor Gauthier. "The lenders that have been successful in 2023 are those that have embraced QC and prepared for the next market shift. We're looking forward to watching lenders continue to keep quality at the forefront of their operations."

ACES Q1 2023 Mortgage QC Trends Report Finds Critical Defect Rate Declines for Second Consecutive Quarter

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced the release of its quarterly ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report covering the first quarter (Q1) of 2023. The latest report analyzes post-closing quality control data derived from ACES Quality Management & Control® software.

Notable findings from the Q1 2023 report include the following:

* The overall critical defect rate declined by 3.26%, ending at 1.78% and marking the second straight quarter of decline.

* In the major underwriting categories, Assets and Income/Employment improved, while Credit and Liabilities deteriorated.

* Despite its improvement this quarter, Income/Employment remained the leading defect category, followed by Assets and Legal/Regulatory/Compliance.

* The sub-category analysis showed increases in eligibility-related defects for both the Assets and Credit categories, whereas this seems to have been the primary driver of improvements in the Income/Employment category. However, analysis- and documentation-related errors both increased this quarter, with documentation remaining the largest sub-category of defects for both the Income/Employment and Asset categories.

* Appraisal defects increased, albeit nominally, for the second straight quarter.

* Purchase and refinance shares held steady in Q1, achieving defect parity for the second consecutive quarter.

* FHA defect share declined after two consecutive quarters of increase. While USDA defects continued to improve, VA defects increased significantly in Q1, and conventional defects also grew slightly.

"While the drop in origination volume has challenged the industry, it has also enabled underwriting and QC teams to be more diligent with each loan file, resulting in higher loan quality. The continued decline in the overall critical defect rate on the heels of last year's historic high indicates lenders have not let the desire for volume override the need to reduce errors and mitigate risk," said ACES Executive Vice President Nick Volpe. "With the recent changes to Fannie Mae's pre-funding QC reviews and post-closing QC cycle times, time will tell in the following quarters how diligent lenders have been in maintaining loan quality and investor requirements."

Findings for the Q1 2023 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report are based on post-closing quality control data derived from the ACES Quality Management and Control® benchmarking system and incorporate data from prior quarters and/or calendar years, where applicable. All reviews and defect data evaluated for the report were based on loan audits selected by lenders for full file reviews.

"The tough decision lenders were faced with at the beginning of the year appear to be paying off. Lenders reported a pre-tax, per-loan net loss of $1,972 in Q1. This result is an improvement over Q4 2022's record $2,812 per-loan loss and reverses the trend of production losses that began in Q4 2020," said ACES CEO Trevor Gauthier. "We expect this data to continue to improve in the coming quarters. Making strategic investments in tech and optimizing operations - especially in QC - can have a significant impact on protecting existing revenue amidst challenging market conditions."

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, has been named one of the 2023 Best Places to Work in Financial Technology. The awards program was created in 2017 and is a project of Arizent and Best Companies Group.

This annual survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor the best employers in the financial technology industry. Companies recognized on this year's list operate in and serve companies and consumers in a wide range of financial services, including banking and mortgages, insurance, payments and financial advisory. The 2023 list included 50 companies and was published by Arizent brands American Banker, National Mortgage News, PaymentsSource, Financial Planning and Digital Insurance.

"At ACES, we pride ourselves on our customer-centric approach, and this people-first mentality naturally extends to our personnel," said CEO Trevor Gauthier. "Our dedicated staff of industry experts is the backbone of our industry-leading software, and without them, ACES would not be where it is today. The importance of employee feedback in the judging process for this designation makes this honor especially gratifying."

* The overall critical defect rate declined 25.5% over Q3 2022, ending the quarter at 1.84%.

* Due to two consecutive quarters of +2% defect rates, the overall rate for CY 2022 was 2.07%.

* Of the four major underwriting categories, Credit improved considerably over Q3, while Liabilities achieved a more modest improvement. Both Assets and Income/Employment increased significantly, ending Income/Employment's multi-quarter trend of decline.

* Income/Employment remained the leading category of defects reported, with Assets and Borrower and Mortgage Eligibility completing the top three categories of defects cited.

* A sub-category analysis of the Assets and Income/Employment categories found documentation to be the leading driver of defects within these two categories.

* Appraisal defects also increased in Q4, ending another multi-quarter trend of decline.

* Purchase share remained high in Q4, with the industry achieving defect parity for the quarter.

* Despite declining in terms of review share, FHA defects increased for the second consecutive quarter, as did conventional loans. USDA and VA loan defects continued to improve.

"After last quarter's historic high of 2.47%, the reduction in Q4's critical defect rate to a sub-2% level is encouraging and illustrates just how much the precipitous drop in origination volumes impacted lending operations," said ACES Executive Vice President Nick Volpe. "However, lenders are starting to see the GSEs take an aggressive stance on repurchase requests for loans with curable defects. In addition, HUD has yet to complete its reviews of some vintage FHA loan production, an area notorious for defects. All of this may spell trouble for lenders that are already financially strapped due to declining volumes."

Findings for the Q4 2022 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report are based on post-closing quality control data derived from the ACES Quality Management and Control® benchmarking system and incorporate data from prior quarters and/or calendar years, where applicable. All reviews and defect data evaluated for the report were based on loan audits selected by lenders for full file reviews.

"Loan defects are one of the greatest sources of financial risk to lenders in today's tight origination market," said ACES CEO Trevor Gauthier. "The best defense against this kind of threat is a robust QC auditing platform like ACES, which helps lenders retain the value of their loan production by identifying the point of origin for loan defects within the manufacturing process and uncovering defect trends to help resolve these issues before they become the impetus for a repurchase request or sale on the scratch-and-dent market."

ACES Quality Management unveils ACES PROTECT® mortgage compliance testing module

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announces the addition of ACES PROTECT, a suite of automated regulatory compliance tests, to its flagship ACES Quality Management & Control® quality control (QC) auditing platform. ACES PROTECT enables lenders to reduce audit time and improve oversight by incorporating automatic compliance testing into their overall QC auditing environment.

"Given the nature of originations right now, calculation errors and other compliance missteps are even more costly," said ACES CEO Trevor Gauthier. "ACES PROTECT gives our clients an added layer of compliance protection that is seamless and cost-effective, enabling them to significantly increase audit productivity while still independently validating loan eligibility calculations."

Through ACES PROTECT, ACES users can easily access a suite of compliance checks within the ACES platform, including certification of loan estimate/closing disclosure calculations, high-cost mortgage and high-price mortgage loan testing, TRID fee tolerance, Qualified Mortgage (QM) tests and other critical compliance tests. ACES users can quickly and easily run compliance tests without leaving the system and automate tasks and exceptions for any alerts, significantly increasing audit productivity. ACES PROTECT provides complete visibility into its calculations via detailed loan-level reporting that clearly communicates a loan's compliance status. Users can select and pay for only the tests they need and automate tasks and exceptions for any alerts to control costs while increasing productivity and ensuring compliance.

"ACES PROTECT has allowed us to automate several of our manual fee compliance tests using a fully supported application, giving us greater efficiency, improved accuracy and better reporting," said Anthony DeAngelo, Director of Sourcing and Procurement for USAA's Managed Services department. "With ACES PROTECT, we're able to test using the parameters we set in ACES PROTECT and, if needed, change them on the fly. All of this gives us improved confidence when sharing our results with management, auditors and regulators."

Critical Defect Rate Reaches Report-High in Q3 2022, Per ACES Quality Management Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced the release of its quarterly ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report covering the third quarter (Q3) of 2022. The latest report analyzes post-closing quality control data derived from ACES Quality Management & Control® software.

Notable findings from the Q3 2022 report include the following:

* The overall critical defect rate increased 20.5% over Q2 2022, ending the quarter at 2.47% - a report high.

* Of the four major underwriting categories (Assets, Credit, Income/Employment and Liabilities), three saw moderate to significant increases in Q2 2022. Income/Employment remained the leading category of defects reported, despite continuing its multi-quarter trend of decline.

* A sub-category analysis of the Assets and Income/Employment categories uncovered troubling defect trends related to eligibility.

* Appraisal defects declined once again, now reflecting a multi-quarter trend.

* Purchase share dominated in Q3 2022, as expected given market conditions, while review share for FHA, USDA and VA loans increased.

* In a reversal of last quarter's findings, FHA defect share saw a moderate increase in Q3 2022, along with a slight defect increase in conventional loans. USDA and VA loan defects improved significantly last quarter.

"The overarching theme for this quarter's report is the effect of sharp declines in loan volume and interest rate volatility on lenders' operations. With purchase originations down nearly 20% quarter-over-quarter and close to 50% year-over-year, lenders are fighting to keep every potential piece of business that comes their way and, perhaps, becoming more aggressive in their borrower qualifications," said ACES Executive Vice President Nick Volpe. "Riding the line on eligibility provides little margin for error. Thus, lenders must continue emphasizing loan quality to ensure salability and long-term asset performance."

Findings for the Q3 2022 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report are based on post-closing quality control data derived from the ACES Quality Management and Control® benchmarking system and incorporate data from prior quarters and/or calendar years, where applicable. All reviews and defect data evaluated for the report were based on loan audits selected by lenders for full file reviews.

"In our last report, we mentioned employment and loan documentation as areas of concern. As layoffs have continued since Q2 2022, we're seeing the ripple effects of interest rate volatility and changing market conditions surface in other areas of the loan manufacturing process, particularly in eligibility," said ACES CEO Trevor Gauthier. "With ACES, lenders can not only identify these immediate areas of concern but also view their QC findings within a historical context to pinpoint trends and execute immediate corrective actions to protect the integrity of their origination pipeline."

Critical Defect Rates Rose 6% in Q2 2022 Per ACES Quality Management Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced the release of its quarterly ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report covering the second quarter (Q2) of 2022. The latest report analyzes post-closing quality control data derived from ACES Quality Management & Control® software.

Notable findings from the Q2 2022 report include the following:

* The overall critical defect rate increased 6% over Q1 2022, ending the quarter at 2.05% and crossing the 2% threshold for only the third time in this report's history.

* While Income/Employment defects continue to represent the majority of defects reported, its overall share of defects decreased from the previous quarter.

* Loan Documentation defects increased significantly in Q2 2022, with Closing Documentation errors comprising the vast majority of these defects.

* Appraisal defects continued trending downward for the second straight quarter, improving slightly over Q1 2022.

* Purchase share increased in Q2 2022, reflecting the shift from a refinance market, while conventional loan share remained essentially unchanged.

* Although FHA share increased slightly in Q2 2022, defects declined significantly in this category over the previous quarter. Conversely, VA and USDA defects increased remarkably despite only modest gains in review share, with VA defects more than doubling from the previous quarter.

"The geopolitical and macroeconomic events surrounding Q2 2022 are most certainly the driving factors behind the increase in the overall critical defect rate past the 2% threshold. While the Income/Employment category improved tremendously this quarter, significant defect increases in the Loan Documentation, VA and USDA categories are cause for concern," said ACES Executive Vice President Nick Volpe.

Findings for the Q2 2022 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report are based on post-closing quality control data derived from the ACES Quality Management and Control® benchmarking system and incorporate data from prior quarters and/or calendar years, where applicable. All reviews and defect data evaluated for the report were based on loan audits selected by lenders for full file reviews.

"With interest rates skyrocketing and severe declines in volume and profitability, Q2 2022 was the perfect storm for the mortgage industry. The market disruption combined with increased competition certainly created ample opportunity for loan defects, hence the increase in Q2r's overall critical defect rate," said ACES CEO Trevor Gauthier. "The takeaway for lenders moving forward is to double down on quality control and risk mitigation to protect the volume they can capture and ensure buyback requests don't diminish profits."

Critical Defect Rate Declined in Q1 2022 Per ACES Quality Management Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced the release of its quarterly ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report covering the first quarter (Q1) of 2022. The latest report analyzes post-closing quality control data derived from ACES Quality Management & Control® software.

Notable findings from the Q1 2022 report include:

* The overall critical defect ended Q1 2022 at 1.93%, representing a .02% decline from Q4 2022.

* Declining volumes have helped stabilize lender processes, keeping defects at bay, but signs are starting to emerge that the credit box is widening in the hunt for volume.

* Defects in the Income/Employment category continue to remain high.

* The share of appraisal-related defects fell in Q1 2022 after rising in the prior quarter, but signs indicate lenders should pay special attention to this area going forward.

* Purchase and refinance shares remained unchanged from the prior quarter. Conventional loan share continued its multi-quarter trend of decline, with FHA loans filling the void and VA loan share also on the rebound.

* Purchase defects increased specifically I the FHA category, which is expected given purchase loans' dominance in review share and the increase in FHA loans.

"Despite an overall decline in the critical defect rate for Q1 2022, the Income/Employment category remains a glaring problem. Lenders are finding this area a difficult one to rectify, and with staffing changes and new products coming online, it is more important than ever that QC managers get granular findings and feedback to their production group," said ACES Executive Vice President Nick Volpe. "Additionally, as lenders expand the credit box to win the fight for volume, they must be careful not to stretch too far and further exacerbate defects in this category."

Findings for the Q1 2022 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report are based on post-closing quality control data derived from the ACES Quality Management and Control® benchmarking system and incorporate data from prior quarters and/or calendar years, where applicable. All reviews and defect data evaluated for the report were based on loan audits selected by lenders for full file reviews.

"While the defect increases in three of the four 'core underwriting' categories are cause for concern, it was not all 'doom and gloom' for Q1 2022. Out of the 11 primary loan defect categories ACES tracks, five showed considerable improvement over last quarter, and none more so than the Documentation category, which dropped 37% from 14.57% to 9.09," added Volpe. "This is a tangible example of the importance of quality control reporting. With quality control and quality assurance testing, lenders can course correct and improve the overall quality of their mortgage originations."

ACES Quality Management Updates Reporting Library to Incorporate Recent Guidance by Fannie Mae

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced that it has enhanced its reporting library within its flagship audit platform ACES Quality Management & Control® Software to help align with recent mortgage quality control (QC) reporting recommendations issued by Fannie Mae.

"ACES has utilized Fannie Mae's loan defect taxonomy for years to help lenders better understand the quality of their production," said ACES CEO Trevor Gauthier. "With the addition of these new reports, our clients can now align both their defect categorization and defect reporting with Fannie Mae's expectations, demonstrating an additional commitment to meeting Fannie Mae's QC directives."

These recommendations, which were outlined during the Nov. 10, 2021, Fannie Mae Boot Camp webcast, advised lenders to utilize the following three levels of reporting to ensure the effective management of their QC programs:

* Senior management;

* Middle management; and

* Front-line staff.

Fannie Mae also recommended that lenders tailor these reports to reflect the needs and concerns of each audience and the frequency of publication. General areas that all reports should include are as follows:

* Summarized and trending results;

* Compliance- versus credit-related defects; and

* Action plan reporting.

In addition to adding these reporting capabilities to the ACES platform, the ACES reporting team is working on additional reporting functionality to support the Fannie Mae QC Calibrations. To learn more about Fannie Mae's QC reporting recommendations, access the Boot Camp recordings at https://fanniemae.qumucloud.com/portals/bootcamp2021/home or visit https://singlefamily.fanniemae.com/media/31646/display to read the June 2022 edition of the Fannie Mae Quality Insider on "Strengthening Your QC program: QC Reporting."

Q4 2021 Critical Defect Rate Rose to 1.95%, Per ACES Quality Management Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced the release of its quarterly ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report covering the fourth quarter (Q4) and full calendar year (CY) of 2021. The latest report analyzes post-closing quality control data derived from ACES Quality Management & Control® software.

Notable findings from the Q4 2021 report include:

* The overall critical defect increased 0.08% to 1.95%, a change of 4% from the prior quarter, as lenders transitioned to a purchase-heavy lending environment.

* Income/Employment defects declined in overall share but remained the No. 1 most frequently cited issue, even after pandemic-related verification issues had subsided.

* Appraisal-related defects rose in Q4 2021 after experiencing minimal levels throughout the last refinance cycle.

* Purchase review share was 20 points higher than refinances.

* Conventional lending share is now 8 points below the pandemic peak amid a mini-resurgence in FHA lending.

"While the overall defect rate rose slightly in Q4 2021, defect rates have improved in totality when comparing 2021 to 2020," said ACES Executive Vice President Nick Volpe. "Given the uptick in Q4 and the persistent issues we're still seeing in the Income/Employment category, lenders should focus their efforts on shoring up this component of their underwriting process."

Findings for the Q4 2021 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report are based on post-closing quality control data derived from the ACES Quality Management and Control® benchmarking system and incorporate data from prior quarters and/or calendar years, where applicable. All reviews and defect data evaluated for the report were based on loan audits selected by lenders for full file reviews.

"As lenders battle over volume, quality control and compliance teams are more important than ever to ensure that the loans that make it through the door meet all regulatory and eligibility requirements," said ACES CEO Trevor Gauthier. "On the origination side, we're seeing the credit box expand to help qualify more borrowers and maintain share. And with 1.3 million loans still in active forbearance along with the renewed focus on servicing from the CFPB and other regulators, servicers and lenders alike must be diligent in their compliance practices to survive this increased level of scrutiny. Leveraging a system like ACES helps both sides of the house ensure they are auditing to the best and most up-to-date standards."
