ACES Quality Management launches ACES Population Testing

New technology applies lender-defined policies at scale across a predetermined loan population for greater risk identification

DENVER, Colo., Sept. 21, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — ACES Quality Management®, the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced today the launch of ACES Population Testing™, which evaluates a financial institution’s loan origination pipelines and servicing portfolios against its defined policies and identifies the records that warrant a reviewer’s attention. The platform is built on data quality technology ACES obtained through its acquisition of BaseCap Analytics and already in production at financial institutions.

Image caption: ACES Quality Management launches ACES Population Testing.

A lender selects the population it wants examined and the policies it wants applied, covering its own compliance, operational and data quality requirements across pre-funding, post-closing and servicing reviews and beyond. Lenders can author the policies themselves or draw from ACES Managed Policies, an expanding library of ACES-authored, compliance-vetted policy content. ACES Population Testing runs those policies against every record in that population, reports a pass or fail on each policy for each record and rolls the results into an overall quality score on the dashboard.

“Compliance and quality programs are under constant pressure to extend their reach without expanding their teams, and ACES Population Testing gives those departments at lenders, servicers, banks, credit unions and other financial institutions the ability to evaluate loan portfolios at the population level, identifying risk that would otherwise go unreviewed,” said Trevor Gauthier, chief executive officer of ACES Quality Management. “The engine underneath ACES Population Testing has been running in production at financial institutions for years, and by bringing it under the ACES umbrella, it now becomes the natural complement to our audit technology, directing our clients’ teams to the records that matter most for targeted, human-driven investigation.”

ACES Population Testing operates alongside traditional sampling methodologies by directing auditors to records that a sample may not reach. From there, auditors can use ACES Quality Management & Control® software to examine the flagged records, determine if they are defects, report findings and remediate.

ACES Q4 and CY 2025 Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report shows critical defect rate falls to annual low

Income/Employment remained the largest single contributor to defects in 2025

DENVER, Colo., May 20, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — ACES Quality Management® (ACES), a leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced the release of its quarterly ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report covering Q4 2025 and the full calendar year (CY) 2025. The report analyzes post-closing quality control data derived from the ACES Quality Management & Control® software.

ACES Quality Management
Image caption: ACES Quality Management® (ACES).

Key findings from the Q4 and CY 2025 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report include:

  • The overall Q4 2025 critical defect rate fell to 1.38%, a 22.91% decrease from 1.79% in Q3 2025, marking the first quarterly decline after three consecutive quarters of increases.
  • CY 2025’s average critical defect rate was 1.50%, essentially flat from CY 2024’s 1.52% (-1.32%).
  • Legal/Regulatory/Compliance returned to the top defect category in Q4 2025, rising 30% from 18.97% to 24.66%. This marks the second time it has led all categories since Q4 2024 and its third consecutive quarterly increase.
  • Income/Employment fell from the top spot for only the second time since Q4 2024, declining 21% to 21.52%.
  • For CY 2025, Borrower/Mortgage Eligibility climbed 291.58% year over year, and Credit rose 166.13%, reflecting a migration toward eligibility-driven defects as borrowers stretched to qualify in a constrained affordability environment.
  • Refinance review share nearly doubled year over year in CY 2025, rising from 11.14% to 21.04%, while refinance defect share more than doubled from 15.30% to 32.20%.
  • By loan product type, FHA defect share remained elevated relative to review share at 30.86% for CY 2025, and VA defect share rose for the second consecutive quarter in Q4, warranting continued segment-specific QC focus.

“Lenders ended 2025 on a strong note, with Q4 delivering a meaningful drop in the critical defect rate and the full-year average holding essentially flat versus 2024,” said Nick Volpe, executive vice president at ACES Quality Management. “But the year’s defining shift toward eligibility-driven defects as refinance activity returned indicates that disciplined documentation and consistent eligibility decisioning will define quality in 2026.”

Findings for the Q4 and CY 2025 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report are based on post-closing quality control data derived from the ACES Quality Management and Control® benchmarking system and incorporate data from prior quarters, where applicable. All reviews and defect data evaluated for the report were based on loan audits selected by lenders for full file reviews. ACES Quality Management Named One of 2026 Best Places to Work in Financial Technology for Fourth Consecutive Year

DENVER, Colo., May 19, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, today announced that it has been named one of the 2026 Best Places to Work in Financial Technology. The awards program was created in 2017 and is a project of Arizent and Best Companies Group.

ACES Quality Management
Image caption: ACES Quality Management.

This annual survey and awards program is designed to identify, recognize and honor the best employers in the financial technology industry. Companies recognized on this year’s list operate in and serve companies and consumers in a wide range of financial services, including banking and mortgages, insurance, payments and financial advisory.

“Earning this recognition for the fourth time is a testament to the exceptional people who make ACES what it is,” said ACES CEO Trevor Gauthier. “Our most recent employee engagement survey confirmed something we’re incredibly proud of: ACES ranks in the top 10% of U.S. software companies for engagement. Employees tell us they value our leadership’s openness, the flexibility built into how we work, and the sense that their efforts genuinely move the company forward. This award reflects all of that, and it challenges us to keep earning it.”

“Each year, the Best Places to Work in Financial Technology offers a glimpse into the workplace practices of fintechs whose employees rate them highly,” said Penny Crosman, Executive Editor of Technology at American Banker. “This year, employees appear to value remote work, schedule flexibility and autonomy above all else, at a time when many traditional financial firms are enforcing strict return-to-work policies.”

To be considered for participation, companies must provide technology products, services or solutions that enable the delivery of financial services. Companies must also have been in business for at least one full year and employ at least 15 people in the U.S.

Companies from across the United States entered a two-part survey process to determine Arizent’s Best Places to Work in Fintech. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. +The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process, analyzed the data and determined the final ranking.

For more information on Arizent’s Best Places to Work in Fintech program, including full eligibility criteria, visit www.BestPlacestoWorkFinTech.com or contact Penny Crosman at penny.crosman@arizent.com.

ACES Quality Management CEO Trevor Gauthier Named 2026 NMP Industry Titan

DENVER, Colo., Feb. 24, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — ACES Quality Management® (ACES), a leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced today that CEO Trevor Gauthier has been named a 2026 Industry Titan by National Mortgage Professional (NMP). The Industry Titan Award recognizes mortgage professionals whose leadership, innovation and long-term contributions have shaped the industry.

CEO Trevor Gauthier of ACES Quality Management
Image caption: CEO Trevor Gauthier of ACES Quality Management.

Gauthier was recognized for his leadership in mortgage quality management, compliance technology and his role in helping financial institutions navigate regulatory change through practical, scalable solutions. According to NMP, Industry Titans are selected based on sustained impact and influence across the mortgage industry.

“One of the mortgage industry’s biggest challenges today is a growing skepticism surrounding new technology claims,” said Gauthier in NMP magazine’s Industry Titan Feature. “Trust is earned by demonstrating what works today, not by selling what might exist tomorrow.”

Throughout his career, Gauthier has emphasized the importance of pairing strong subject matter expertise with adaptable technology to help lenders respond to evolving regulatory and market conditions. He has noted that while the industry is often perceived as fast-moving, regulatory change remains the most persistent driver of complexity, requiring disciplined execution and flexible platforms.

Gauthier has also focused on fostering long-term industry impact through leadership and culture. At ACES, he has prioritized building a community centered on quality, accountability and collaboration, including the company’s “I Stand for Quality” movement, which promotes elevating standards across the mortgage industry.

“Quality isn’t just a function. It’s a mindset that fosters trust, safeguards borrowers and strengthens institutions,” Gauthier said. “When people are aligned around that mission, success becomes sustainable.”

Honorees are profiled in the February edition of NMP magazine, available here.

ACES Q3 2025 Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report shows concentrated rise in critical defects as income and compliance findings increase

DENVER, Colo., Feb. 18, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, today announced the release of its quarterly ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report covering Q3 2025. The report analyzes post-closing quality control data derived from the ACES Quality Management & Control® software.

ACES Quality Management
Image caption: ACES Quality Management.

Key findings from the Q3 2025 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report include:

  • The overall critical defect rate increased 18.5%, rising from 1.51% in Q2 2025 to 1.79% in Q3 2025.
  • Income/Employment defects increased 47.6%, rising from 18.45% to 27.24% of all critical defects and remaining the largest defect category.
  • Legal/Regulatory/Compliance defects increased 16.8%, rising from 16.24% to 18.97%.
  • Borrower/Mortgage Eligibility defects decreased 56.5%, declining from 15.87% to 6.90%.
  • Purchase defect share decreased to 62.65%, while refinance defect share increased to 37.35% as refinance review share expanded.
  • Conventional loans accounted for 57.18% of all critical defects, FHA for 31.10% and VA for 11.00%, reflecting relative stability across products with modest shifts in defect concentration.

“While the overall critical defect rate increased again in Q3 2025, the underlying data points to a market adjusting to a shifting mix rather than a broad decline in manufacturing quality,” said Nick Volpe, executive vice president of ACES Quality Management. “The increase was driven primarily by concentrated deterioration in income- and compliance-related findings, reinforcing the importance of documentation integrity and disciplined validation as refinance activity expands and lenders continue to operate lean.”

Findings for the Q3 2025 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report are based on post-closing quality control data derived from the ACES Quality Management and Control® benchmarking system and incorporate data from prior quarters, where applicable. All reviews and defect data evaluated for the report were based on loan audits selected by lenders for full file reviews. The Mortgage QC Industry Trends Reports are available for download, free of charge, at https://www.acesquality.com/resources/reports.

Key findings from the Q2 2025 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report include:

  • The overall critical defect rate increased 15.27%, rising from 1.31% in Q1 2025 to 1.51%.
  • Appraisal defects surged 156.5%, while Borrower/Mortgage Eligibility defects more than doubled to 15.87%.

Before joining ACES, she was counsel at Ballard Spahr LLP, advising clients on complex federal and state mortgage lending laws. She was also executive vice president of legal and regulatory compliance at Mortgage Cadence. Before that, she held leadership roles for seven years at WR Starkey Mortgage LLP, now Certainty Home Loans. Her extensive background uniquely positions her to lead ACES’ legal and regulatory strategy as the industry navigates evolving compliance landscapes.

Prout has played a key role in helping ACES clients navigate evolving regulatory requirements and internal compliance issues. As associate vice president of compliance, she will continue to enhance ACES’ ability to anticipate regulatory changes, provide timely updates to users, and expand the available compliance resources through the platform.

ACES’ in-house compliance team plays an essential role in helping clients stay ahead of regulatory developments through a proactive, resource-rich approach. ACES Managed Questionnaires is central to this effort, a dynamic library of standardized, prebuilt loan review checklists developed and maintained by ACES compliance experts. These questionnaires are continuously updated to reflect evolving state and federal regulations and GSE and federal agency guidelines, using responsive logic to simplify the audit process, increase review speed and ensure compliance accuracy.

ACES Q3 2024 Mortgage QC Trends Report shows ‘sharp rise in insurance defects’ for second time this year

Fluctuations in key underwriting categories reinforce the need for quality control

DENVER, Colo., Feb. 13, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced the release of its quarterly ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report covering the third quarter (Q3) of 2024. The latest report analyzes post-closing quality control data derived from ACES Quality Management & Control® software.

ACES Quality Management
Image caption: ACES Quality Management.

NOTABLE FINDINGS FROM THE Q3 2024 REPORT INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • The overall critical defect rate declined from Q2 to Q3 by nearly 17%, ending the quarter at 1.51%.
  • Income/Employment was again the leading category of defects at 25%, followed by Assets at 16.67%. Credit and Loan Documentation tied for the third most defects at 12.12% each.
  • Insurance defects increased more than four-fold from a nominal .65% in Q2 to 3.03% in Q3, demonstrating a volatile pattern since Q1 when the share stood at 8%.
  • Mirroring the origination environment in Q3, lenders increased their reviews of refinances while defect share declined.
  • Purchase defect share increased despite a decrease in purchase reviews.
  • Conventional review share increased slightly in Q3, while FHA, USA and VA loan reviews decreased.
  • Defects declined significantly for conventional and USDA loans this quarter, while FHA defect share increased by 25%.
  • VA defect share increased significantly in Q3, though primarily driven by a temporary phenomenon.

“The drop in the overall critical defect rate this quarter is a welcome shift, but the underlying trends tell a more complex story. The sharp rise in insurance defects, combined with fluctuations in key underwriting categories, reinforces the need for lenders to stay agile in their quality control efforts,” said Nick Volpe, executive vice president of ACES Quality Management. “As market conditions evolve, leveraging technology and data-driven insights will be critical to maintaining loan integrity and mitigating future risk.”

Findings for the Q3 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report are based on post-closing quality control data derived from the ACES Quality Management and Control® benchmarking system and incorporate data from prior quarters and/or calendar years, where applicable. All reviews and defect data evaluated for the report were based on loan audits selected by lenders for full file reviews.

ACES Q2 2024 Mortgage QC Trends Report Reveals Second Consecutive Increase in Critical Defect Rate

Persistent issues in Income/Employment defects and significant defect growth across all major underwriting categories push defect rate closer to 2% threshold

DENVER, Colo., Nov. 20, 2024 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced the release of its quarterly ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report covering the second quarter (Q2) of 2024. The latest report analyzes post-closing quality control data derived from ACES Quality Management & Control® software. ACES has altered the timing of this report to better reflect Fannie Mae’s accelerated timeline for post-closing quality control reviews.

Notable findings from the Q2 2024 report include the following:

  • The overall critical defect rate increased 14.56% to 1.81%, marking the second consecutive quarter of growth.
  • Income/Employment remains the leading category of defects at 37.01%, followed by Assets at 14.29% and Credit at 9.79%.
  • Defects increased in all four major underwriting categories, with Income/Employment defects rising the most quarter-over-quarter.
  • Appraisal defects saw the most significant quarter-over-quarter growth across all categories, increasing by 98.33%.
  • Insurance defects reversed course from Q1 2024, declining 91.99%.
  • Lenders continued to prioritize purchase reviews over refinances, with defect share rising 2.71% for purchase transactions and declining 11.66% for refinances.
  • Conventional and FHA review shares declined slightly this quarter. While VA review share increased somewhat, lenders significantly increased their reviews of USDA loans in Q2.
  • FHA and VA loan performance improved tremendously over Q1, declining 35.26% and 56.57%, respectively. Conventional defect share increased by 13.59%, but the largest area of concern this quarter is USDA loan defects, which increased by 370.9%.

“This quarter’s rise in critical defects signals that lenders need to double down on quality control efforts, especially as volumes grow,” warned Nick Volpe, EVP of ACES Quality Management. “While the industry’s resilience is evident, the increased scrutiny of income and other key underwriting areas reminds us of the complexities in today’s lending landscape. Proactive adoption of digital tools is key to maintaining high standards and navigating an environment where even minor lapses can impact long-term performance.”

Findings for the Q2 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report are based on post-closing quality control data derived from the ACES Quality Management and Control® benchmarking system and incorporate data from prior quarters and/or calendar years, where applicable. All reviews and defect data evaluated for the report were based on loan audits selected by lenders for full file reviews.

Critical Defect Rate Rises to 1.58%, Per ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced the release of its quarterly ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report covering the first quarter (Q1) of 2024. The latest report analyzes post-closing quality control data derived from ACES Quality Management & Control® software.

Notable findings from the Q1 2024 report include the following:

* The overall critical defect rate increased 3.27% to 1.58% in Q1 2024, ending five quarters of decline.

* While Income/Employment remains the leading category of defects, performance improved tremendously quarter-over-quarter in this category.

* Defects increased in two of the four major underwriting categories, with Credit defects nearly doubling from Q4 2023.

* Legal/Regulatory/Compliance defects increased by 208.37% to 16.22%, becoming the second-highest category of defects this quarter, followed by Loan Documentation at 14.41%.

* Insurance defects, while usually negligible, comprised 8.11% of all defects.

* Although refinance review share declined this quarter, defect share doubled, indicating a degradation in quality in this area.

* Defect share outstripped review share for conventional loans this quarter, most certainly fueled by the surge in refinance defects.

* Both review share and defect share declined in the FHA category. Lenders also saw substantial improvements in VA defect share despite significantly increasing review share over Q4.

"Given origination levels in the first quarter of this year, the findings in this report showed greater changes than expected," said ACES Executive Vice President Nick Volpe. "Historically, defect rates decrease when there is a decline in origination levels; however, that was not the case for Q1. Mortgage lenders are no strangers to market adversity. While the market is shifting, we hope this report will serve as a reminder to reinforce quality control across the board."

Findings for the Q1 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report are based on post-closing quality control data derived from the ACES Quality Management and Control® benchmarking system and incorporate data from prior quarters and/or calendar years, where applicable. All reviews and defect data evaluated for the report were based on loan audits selected by lenders for full file reviews.

"The current mortgage market presents distinct challenges that lenders must navigate with precision. Although the critical defect rate remains low by historical standards, the increase in a quarter with record-low origination volumes is concerning. Notable rises across underwriting categories and unexpected insurance defects need closer scrutiny from lenders," said Trevor Gauthier, CEO of ACES Quality Management. "Overall, the data clearly shows that lenders are under increasing pressure to maintain quality amid changing market dynamics. A proactive approach to quality control is crucial for mitigating risk and ensuring long-term stability."

Critical Defect Rate Declines Five Straight Quarters, Ending 2023 at 1.53%, Per ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management® (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced the release of its quarterly ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report covering the fourth quarter (Q4) and calendar year (CY) of 2023. The latest report analyzes post-closing quality control data derived from ACES Quality Management & Control® software.

Notable findings from the Q4 2023 report include the following:

* The overall critical defect rate declined 8.38%, ending the quarter at 1.53%.

* The overall rate for CY 2023 was 1.68%, down 19.18% from CY 2022.

* Of the four major underwriting categories, Credit and Liabilities improved in Q4 2023, while defects increased for Assets and Income/Employment. However, only one category - Credit - improved overall for CY 2023.

* Income/Employment remains the leading category of defects reported in Q4 2023, with Assets and Borrower and Mortgage Eligibility completing the top three categories of defects cited.

* Income/Employment and Assets were also the top two most cited defect categories for CY 2023, with Loan Documentation in third place.

* The sub-category analysis for both Q4 2023 and CY 2023 showed a tremendous increase in Calculation/Analysis-related errors for the Assets category. Eligibility-related defects also increased in the Credit and Income/Employment categories in Q4, while CY 2023 saw moderate increases in Credit Documentation, Income/Employment Analysis and Eligibility.

* Purchase review share decreased by 1.34% over Q3, while refinance review share increased by 8.79%. Defect-wise, purchase share increased by 6.28%, and refinance share decreased by 36.2%.

* VA review share increased the most in 2023, rising 19.44%, followed by a 4.46% increase in FHA review share. USDA review share declined by 15.63%, as did conventional by 4.22%.

* While FHA defect share increased by 1.85% quarter-over-quarter, USDA and VA loans experienced the most increases in Q4, rising 8.62% and 8.48%. While USDA review share also increased in Q4, VA review share remained relatively flat.

* For CY 2023, conventional and FHA defect share increased 5.83% and 11.6%, respectively. Defect share decreased by 68.15% for USDA loans and 26.61% for VA loans.

"Building on the gains made in late 2022, mortgage lenders improved loan quality in both Q4 2023 and for the year overall," said ACES Executive Vice President Nick Volpe. "However, persistent adversity in the form of interest rates and affordability challenges only emphasizes the need for lenders to remain vigilant and protect the integrity of existing loan production."

Findings for the Q4/CY 2023 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report are based on post-closing quality control data derived from the ACES Quality Management and Control® benchmarking system and incorporate data from prior quarters and/or calendar years, where applicable. All reviews and defect data evaluated for the report were based on loan audits selected by lenders for full file reviews.

"The overall critical defect rate for Q4 2023 dropped to 1.53%, among the lowest rates observed since this report's inception. Given five straight quarters of decline, it's evident lenders are prioritizing loan quality in the current market to preserve as much revenue as possible," said Trevor Gauthier, CEO of ACES Quality Management. "The market downturn led to operational staff cuts for many lenders, and those reductions certainly impacted QC departments. Lenders' ability to consistently drive down their critical defects in that environment speaks to the power of ACES to help lenders manage loan quality and mitigate risk in any environment."
