3rd3rd Marketing Brings ‘Un-Senior Living’ to LeadingAge Annual Conference Championing Inclusive, Age-positive Marketing in Senior Living

BOSTON, Mass., Nov. 3, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — 3rd3rd Marketing, the nation’s leading agency redefining how senior living communities connect with older adults, showcases its “Un-Senior Living” approach at the 2025 LeadingAge Annual Conference in Boston. Through two sessions with industry partners, 3rd3rd will explore how communities can reduce ageism in marketing, increase diversity in senior living communities, and improve marketing ROI.

3rd3rd Marketing is the 'Un-Senior Living Agency' and addresses ageism in marketing today on Ageism Awareness Day, and every day.
Image caption: 3rd3rd Marketing, known as the “Un-Senior Living Agency,” challenges aging stereotypes in its “Internalized Ageism” booklet — a free resource that helps organizations identify and overcome hidden biases to strengthen marketing impact.

Known as the “Un-Senior Living Agency,” 3rd3rd Marketing has developed strategies that celebrate age with authenticity and inclusivity. The agency’s “Internalized Ageism” booklet helps organizations uncover and address subtle biases that can undermine marketing effectiveness.

According to Cynthia Thurlow, Principal at 3rd3rd Marketing, the key to effective senior living marketing lies in challenging the assumptions that perpetuate ageism.

“Ageism isn’t just an external bias; it often shows up unintentionally in how organizations communicate and market,” said Thurlow. “At 3rd3rd, we help clients see beyond the label of ‘senior’ and build marketing strategies that focus on people’s values, aspirations, and lifestyles rather than their age.”

PRESENTATIONS AT LEADINGAGE INCLUDE:

  • “Reaching Out to Solo Agers to Increase Sales and Diversity,” on November 3 at 4:30 p.m., features Cynthia Thurlow, 3rd3rd Marketing, Dr. Sara Zeff Geber, LifeEncore and author of ‘Essential Retirement Planning for Solo Agers: A Retirement and Aging Roadmap for Single and Childless Adults,’ and Shirley Turner, Director of Sales and Marketing, Hillcrest in La Verne, Calif. The discussion explores how to meet their needs.
  • “Are You Wasting Money on Marketing? Assessing Your Blind Spots,” on November 5 at 10:30 a.m., features Jessica Stewart, Senior Director of Operations, Simpson Senior Living in Philadelphia, Penn., Derek Dujardin, Creative Director, 3rd3rd Marketing and Amy Estridge, Director of Account Services and Growth, 3rd3rd Marketing. Designed for the C-suite and VP-level managers of senior living communities, this presentation tackles critical blind spots many organizations face when evaluating marketing programs and offers tools to amplify what works, adjust what doesn’t and achieve measurable results.
  • All session attendees will be entered into a drawing for a free Fresh Eyes Marketing Review (valued at $12,000).

A recent success story with Hillcrest in Los Angeles County illustrates the impact of 3rd3rd Marketing’s approach. By shifting its marketing focus from chronological age to psychodemographic and cultural identity, Hillcrest increased occupancy from 87% to 95% in just seven months.

“3rd3rd helped us change not just our message, but our mindset,” said Shirley Turner of Hillcrest. “By embracing more creativity and being even more entrepreneurial, we didn’t just fill units, we built a stronger, more diverse and connected community.”

Beyond its presence at the summit, AgingIN continues to shape the national conversation through its “Elevate Eldercare” podcast, hosted by CEO Susan Ryan. Smith Sloan reflects on her career spanning the U.S. Senate, AARP, and now LeadingAge, where she leads 5,500 nonprofit, mission-driven providers nationwide. She emphasizes the need for bold thinking, public-private partnerships, and policies that keep human dignity at the heart of care.

“None of us can solve these challenges in a vacuum,” Smith Sloan says. “We need to lift each other up, take risks, and act boldly on what we know works.”

This belief is reflected in AgingIN’s renewed commitment as well. “At AgingIN, we believe person-directed living and culture change are not only compassionate but also sustainable,” said Ryan. “Katie’s leadership at LeadingAge reminds us that reform begins with courage, collaboration, and truth-telling. Real innovation happens when people come together to reimagine what aging can be.”

CONTINUING THE CONVERSATION: STORIES THAT DRIVE CHANGE

The Elevate Eldercare podcast episode on Oct. 29 showcases leaders Peter Murphy Lewis, the documentarian behind “People Worth Caring About,” and Erin Hart, a marketing and policy leader with the Ohio Health Care Association. They discuss the power of sharing stories from direct-care professionals to demonstrate their dedication, spotlight the workforce’s worth and impact, and shape meaningful change.

The November 5th episode, timed with Veterans Day, features Jack York, the founder of Talegate, a storytelling and documentary platform that elevates elders by sharing their remarkable stories. In this episode, Ryan and York’s conversation honors veterans and explores the tremendous value of sharing elders’ stories to help shift the stigma around aging in our communities.

Gonzales, Holmes & Muhoza Win 2025 Top Postdoctoral Awards

The NPA names in Boston the winners of its NPA Gallagher Mentor Award, NPA Distinguished Service Award, and NPA SCRI Postdoc of the Year Award

BOSTON, Mass., March 21, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — During its annual conference, the National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) announced that Albert L. Gonzales, Ph.D., Christine Holmes, MBA, and Sixbert P. Muhoza, Ph.D., are the 2025 winners of the organization’s three most prestigious awards.

National Postdotoral Association
Image caption: National Postdoctoral Association (NPA).

“The NPA is committed to improving the postdoctoral experience and these three awards acknowledge the critical role postdocs and those who support them play in advancing knowledge and improving the human condition,” said Christopher T. Smith, Ph.D., chair of the NPA board. “Congratulations to this year’s well-deserved winners.”

The NPA Gallagher Mentor Award recognizes the very best of mentors across the nation who advocate for postdoctoral scholars, celebrate diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) values, and empower their postdoc scholars to succeed. The NPA is dedicated to both recognizing champions and serving as a model for greater DEIB across the postdoctoral community.

This year’s award was presented to Albert. L. Gonzales, assistant professor, department of physiology and cellular biology, at the University of Nevada, Reno. In the words of those supporting Gonzales for the Gallagher Mentor Award, “his philosophy is rooted in the belief that diversity of thought enhances scientific inquiry and innovation.” Another noted: “His mentorship has enriched the postdoctoral experience at our institution by setting a standard of excellence that inspires all who work with him.”

The NPA Distinguished Service Award recognizes the highest appreciation for an individual who has demonstrated a profound, sustained, or leadership contribution to improving the postdoctoral experience. Today, that honor was bestowed on Christine Holmes, MBA, director for postdoctoral studies at Cornell University.

Holmes received the award today to a field of applauding peers who celebrated her decades of support for the postdoctoral community. Holmes founded the Office of Postdoctoral Studies at Cornell when she became its first director in 1995. “She created important new structures to uplift and support postdoctoral scholars on a shoestring budget,” according to her peers who nominated her. “She has had a uniquely profound and sustained impact … on the lives of thousands of early-career scholars.”

This year, the NPA and Seattle Children’s Research Institute (SCRI) presented its second annual Postdoc of the Year Award, bestowing that honor on Sixbert P. Muhoza, Ph.D., a Walter Massey Fellow at the Argonne National Laboratory. The NPA SCRI award recognizes a postdoc who has advanced the postdoctoral community in an exceptional manner beyond their work duties and in alignment with the NPA mission and core values.

In nominating Muhoza for this prestigious award, faculty members applauded his innovation and dedication, noting that he “has made substantial contributions to the scientific community and beyond during his fellowship, setting a new standard for postdoctoral excellence.”

“It’s an honor simply to work alongside these three individuals in the postdoctoral community,” said Tom Kimbis, executive director and chief executive officer of the NPA. “Holmes, Gonzales, and Muhoza are among the best of the best. Their excellence demonstrates the irreplaceable role of postdocs in the greater research environment. Postdocs are essential for maintaining American leadership in the sciences and beyond.”

Individuals and organizations can follow the work of Holmes, Gonzales, and Muhoza online by collaborating with the NPA, which is committed to advancing the skills and careers of our nation’s hard-working postdoctoral scholars, whose work in all disciplines benefits Americans across all fifty states.

About the National Postdoctoral Association:

The National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) charitable and educational association headquartered in Bethesda, MD. Founded in 2003, the NPA envisions an inclusive community where all postdocs are empowered, valued, recognized, and supported in their current and future endeavors. The NPA serves the entire postdoctoral community, including its 24,000 individual and 250 organizational members.
