ULACD Makes College Basketball History

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- The University of Los Angeles College of Divinity (ULACD) basketball team, led by one of California's most successful high school and college coaches, Michael Miller, posted the second-best record in the nation of any four-year college over the last four years.

From 2018-2022, ULACD, which is located in Compton, California and plays as an independent, produced a record of 105-8, for a winning percentage of 93%. Only Northwest Missouri State, which plays in NCAA Division II, had a better record during the same four-year span at 126-8 (94%).

While ULACD shattered all winning records in the state of California during the last four-years, their most amazing achievement has been playing in the last three ACCA National Championship games. They won the 2019-20 ACCA National Championship, and were runner-ups in 2020-21 and 2021-22. During the 2019-2020 season ULACD produced their best record (30-1) while winning the ACCA National Championship, defeating a very well coached Ozark Christian College on their home floor 97-89 on March 7, 2020. In the victory, Coach Miller made history by becoming the first coach to coach a high school state title team (Ribet Academy 1990-91), a junior college state title team (Los Angeles City College 1996-97 and 2002-03) and a national title team.

Coach Miller has won where ever he has coached. Miller was the first head coach to lead a high school team and a junior college team to a state title. While at Los Angeles City College, from 1992-2007, Miller had a record-breaking run of 14 consecutive conference championships. His LACC teams compiled an overall record of 241-38 from 1999-2007 for a winning percentage of .864, exceeding all NCAA Division I Programs during the same time.

ULACD is a proud five-year member of the Association of Christian College Athletics (ACCA) based in Joplin, Missouri. The ACCA was founded in 1982 and its current President is Chris Lahm. Lahm is the highly respected, and veteran coach and administrator of Ozark Christian College, and newly elected to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Hall of Fame.

Amazon Prime Removes Indie Film About Global Persecution of Christians

TAMPA, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- For nearly two years, the indie documentary, "Christians in the Mirror," produced by Joshuacord, Inc. and In Altum Productions, streamed on Amazon Prime before it was removed without warning or explanation. Its producers want to know why.

"Christians in the Mirror" examines the plight of persecuted Christians throughout the world and includes interviews with religious leaders and persecuted Christian families in Syria, India, Iraq, South Sudan, and Egypt. The goal of the film is to educate Americans about the widespread persecution of Christians in other parts of the globe and to motivate Christians blessed with religious freedom in the West to provide aid to those suffering for their faith.

On March 9, 2021, the producers of the documentary independently discovered that the film was no longer available on Amazon's streaming service. Only after reaching out to Amazon for clarifying information did the producers learn that Amazon had unilaterally removed the documentary, but Amazon gave no reason for the removal. The producers followed-up for an explanation, requesting analytics and specific details to outline the reasons for the film's removal, but the information Amazon provided was vague and lacked validity.

Amazon's unexplainable decision invoked feelings of confusion and frustration for Patrick Carberry, the film's co-executive producer and Joshuacord founder. And, apparently, he's not alone.

According to a new Consumer Reports' survey, roughly three out of four Americans worry about the power wielded by today's biggest tech platforms. Top concerns include biased search results, unfair pricing and misinformation.

"My primary concern has to do with potential bias," Carberry says. "I just don't understand why the film was fine for nearly two years, and then it wasn't. What changed? Why? I have many unanswered questions. Something just doesn't feel right."

Carberry adds that the main mission of the film is to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves and to question why there's silence and a lack of support from many affluent churches around America. It's the hope of the film's executive team to activate Christians across America to stand united to help those persecuted for their faith and to prompt people to take action to support religious freedom.

The film averaged about 15,000 to 20,000 streams per quarter and Carberry said that sounded pretty good to him. He adds that it's not his desire to shine any bad will on the tech giant. He simply wants to have the film re-listed so it can continue to inform and educate those who are willing to listen and wanting to help.

"Amazon is a mega power when it comes to helping the little guy get the word out and I feel as if we've been slapped in the face for no reason. There was no real discussion about why or what could be changed," Carberry says. "They are Goliath and we are not even David. Behemoth big tech businesses such as Amazon Prime Video should be making it easier for independent producers to get the message out, not more difficult. We're imploring them to reconsider making our video available again and welcome a discussion. That is all we are really asking for."

Episcopal Diocese of New York receives $1 Million from Lilly Endowment to launch ‘Episcopal Futures: An Initiative for Collaborative Transformation’

The program is funded through Lilly Endowment's Thriving Congregations Initiative. The aim of the national initiative is to strengthen Christian congregations so they can help people deepen their relationships with God, build strong relationships with each other and contribute to the flourishing of local communities and the world.

Lilly Endowment is making nearly $93 million in grants through the initiative. The grants will support organizations as they work directly with congregations and help them gain clarity about their values and missions, explore and understand better the communities in which they serve, and draw upon their theological traditions as they adapt ministries to meet changing needs.

Episcopal Futures: An Initiative for Collaborative Transformation is a five-year project for congregational renewal of the Diocese of New York, developed in collaboration with General Theological Seminary. This project grows out of the recent strategic initiatives of the Diocese in church planting and congregational redevelopment as a brave and faithful response to a rapidly changing environment of mission and ministry.

Episcopal Futures envisions vibrant congregations with capacity to discern and articulate a clear mission, vision and identity, promote spiritual vitality and faith formation among its members and respond creatively and adaptively to conflict and change in their ministry contexts. In collaboration with General Theological Seminary, the Learning Communities program will be designed and developed to provide resources of training curriculum, consultants and coaches to the participants. The participating teams will practice and implement collaboration, faith renewal and radical reconciliation in their ministry contexts. Work will include continued implementation, evaluation and research. In keeping with the Reparations Resolution 9 of the Diocesan Convention 2019, Episcopal Futures is also committed to developing Learning Communities in the historically African-American communities as well as in the marginalized communities. in collaboration with General Theological Seminary.

The goal of Episcopal Futures is to (1) build a culture of collaboration and adaptive leadership in and among the congregations of the Diocese that will lead to a deeper commitment to common life and common mission, rooted in the Episcopal ethos and identity, (2) catalyze the renewal of congregations through team work and creative practices in mission and ministries, and (3) plant new and imaginative worshipping communities and outreach ministries that foster justice and reconciliation.

The Episcopal Diocese of New York is one of 92 organizations taking part in Lilly Endowment's Thriving Congregations Initiative. They represent and serve churches in a broad spectrum of Christian traditions, including Anabaptist, Baptist, Episcopal, evangelical, Lutheran, Methodist, Mennonite, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Reformed, Restoration, Roman Catholic and Orthodox, as well as congregations that describe themselves as nondenominational. Several organizations serve congregations in Black, Hispanic and Asian-American traditions.

Christian Film Producers Target Audiences in Digital Spaces

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- On November 10, 2019, Shincheonji church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony held one of the world's largest graduation with the count of 103,764 graduates. In addition to the 100,000 graduates in South Korea, it was also held simultaneously around the world from school locations in Asia Pacific, Europe, Africa, and the United States including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington DC, Chicago, New York, as well as in South and Central America.

The graduation was broadcast live within major cities in Korea and Internationally for the graduates overseas to participate.

This graduation is the largest graduation from a single denomination worldwide. Adding the combined total number of graduates together would equal to 100 churches of 1,000 congregation members, which is greatly different from the drastic fall of the number of congregation members seen globally in the world of religion and it marks a historical triumph for theological studies especially when seminary education enrollment has declined for the past decade according to a study conducted by the Association of Theology Schools.

Shincheonji is the only place in the world where 100,000 students graduated after completing an in-depth theology program which is open to students wishing to study the Bible and the prophecies from the book of Revelation. Free of coast consisting of beginners, intermediate, and advance content for 6months to a year and graduating after passing the final exams.

Of course it is incredible enough to see 100,000 students graduating from a single denomination; however, what is more shocking is that Shincheonji - which is teaching the fulfillment of Revelation and has been growing at an incredibly rapid pace since 1984 is labeled as a "cult" by the Christian world of the Republic of Korea especially through the CCK (Christian Council of Korea). Despite criticism Shincheonji has received, such as major allegations that "Shincheonji claiming the founder of Shincheonji being Jesus," and "students are coerced to learn and brainwashes the people with their teaching." The graduates reported that those are all false accusations and the reality they've witnessed is completely different.

"For the past 8 months within my Bible study, I was checking to see if any of the criticisms against Shincheonji were true, from making people quit jobs, divorce, and leave their homes, to forcing us in believing the founder of Shincheonji, Mr. Mann Hee Lee as Jesus, I realized that those were false rumors and far from the truth. Anyone can study the Bible according to their free-will and if you do not want to study the Bible you can stop studying at any time. I am thankful that I had a chance to study the Bible for the past 8 months and to see for myself that Shincheonji's teaching of the Bible is biblical and logical," said Graduate Lynn Maldonado.

The growth of Shincheonji is expected to grow exponentially after the graduation. With the evangelism rate of the graduates being over 100%, currently there are 200,000 plus students that are enrolled in the theology program. If Shincheonji continues to grow at this pace, then within 3 years it will reach a million congregation members, and the status quo of the religious world will change.

African Methodist Episcopal Church Installs New Senior Bishop

NASHVILLE, Tenn. /ScoopCloud/ -- On June 26, during the AME Church's Annual Council of Bishops and General Board Meeting Worship Service, at the Birmingham-Jefferson County Convention Center in Birmingham, Alabama, the Right Reverend Adam Jefferson Richardson, Jr. was installed as the Senior Bishop of the AME Church.

The Senior Bishop is the active Bishop with the longest tenure of service in the AME Church and is first in order of precedence among the Council of Bishops. The position occupies a key role in the polity and practice of the AME Church. While a Senior Bishop has existed since the incorporation of the church as a denomination in 1816, the first formal investiture ceremony occurred at the 2004 General Conference.

The ceremony includes the passage of the Senior Bishop's regalia-a solid gold medallion with the logo of the denomination donated by the family of Claude Stephens.

During his investiture, Senior Bishop Richardson commented, "I am honored for service at this time in the history of our church. I seek an interest in your prayers that I may rise to the occasion, that inadequacies may not be too glaring. Whatever successes, whatever achievements, the credit, the glory will belong to God in Christ."

Bishop Richardson succeeds the Right Reverend McKinley Young who died in January 2019. He was elected and consecrated the 115th Bishop at the 1996 General Conference. With service in pulpits throughout Georgia and Florida, the last church he pastored prior to his election was Bethel AME Church in Tallahassee, Florida where he served for 18 years. He obtained the Bachelor of Arts degree from the Florida A&M University (where he was noted as the head drum major of the "Marching 100" Band). He received his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Sacred Theology degrees at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

As a Bishop, he has served churches in Sierra Leone, Ghana Liberia, Cote D'Ivoire, Togo and Benin (14th District), the Republic of South Africa (19th District), Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland and Washington, DC (2nd District) and currently Florida and the Bahamas Islands (11th District). Within he has served as chair of the Health Commission, Lay, Commission on Seminaries, Colleges and Schools and as President of the Council of Bishops. He has represented the AME Church in a number of Ecumenical bodies including the World Methodist Council and the National Congress of Black Churches. He is also a prolific author with articles or chapters in several books including the African-American Devotional Bible and Headlines to Homilies.

Bishop Richardson will serve as Senior Bishop until his retirement in 2024. Reflecting on his time as a FAMU drum major he said, "There are quite a few steps (literally and figuratively) between the Patch (the practice field) and Senior Bishop!"

He and his wife Dr. Connie Speights Richardson are proud parents of two adult children Monique (a Leon County Judge) and Trey (a certified hospital radiographer and professional saxophone player).
