Hero Homes Solutions acquires 30 homes in Urbana, Ohio

URBANA, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- Hero Homes Solutions, LLC, has acquired a 30-home subdivision in Urbana, Ohio located in Champaign County, Ohio from Waltco Investments LLC. To date the company has purchased over 500 homes in Ohio with a goal of getting to 1,000 homes within 24 months. Urbana is centrally located between Columbus and Dayton, Ohio. It is a quiet and stable suburb of Springfield, offering tenants a relaxing lifestyle away from the hustle and bustle of city life but within a manageable commute to the nearby metropolitan areas.

Without hesitation, he turned to country music artist, Richard Lynch. Richard has a passion and respect for our military that is not to be taken lightly. He was humbled and honored to be asked to turn this poem into a song. Since then, Richard's adaptation of the poem has literally brought veterans of all ages and walks of life to tears on the spot.

From this, a greater cause was revealed. There are folks ranging from 18 to 81 years old that will carry mental and physical scars with them for the rest of their lives, because they fought for our citizens' freedoms. It came to our attention that these men and women almost feel ostracized; they feel like damaged goods. Fortin Ironworks Reflects on 75 Years Serving Central Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- For most the American Dream begins with an idea. For Fortin Ironworks, that idea began with a truck, a small shed and a man with a passion for welding. Today, 75 years later, it's reflecting on that humble beginning.

The founders, Joe and Josephine Fortin, a 22-year-old Italian American couple, were initially introduced as friendly pen pals during World War II when Joe was stationed in Iran for the U.S. Army. After two years of correspondence, they found more than friendship. Without ever meeting, they engaged, somehow knowing that their love could grow to last a lifetime.

Shortly after their August wedding in 1945, World War II ended. Joe was honorably discharged and the couple's long-distance relationship turned into a love-filled life together.

Jobs were difficult to find after the war, so Joe took matters into his own hands, quite literally. A former welding student of the Columbus Trade School at Fort Hayes in Central Ohio, a welder for the Pennsylvania Railroad and the U.S. Army, Joe was incredibly handy to have around and started doing on-site, portable welding repairs and small metal fabrication jobs.

What started out as a small repair shop run out of his truck and a backyard shed, grew into a thriving business. In 1946, this backyard operation officially became Fortin Welding, now known as Fortin Ironworks. Today, it's a successful, multimillion-dollar company with a modern factory complex on nearly four acres. In fact, the building and its showroom are now local landmarks.

The Fortin Ironworks showroom is a known "destination location" for locals and out of town travelers, alike. Its products can also be found at the Market at Fortin Ironworks, home to the creations of various local artists, eclectic home furnishings and a unique event space available to rent for small gatherings.

Over the years, the business has seen many changes and, most recently, the addition of a high-tech laser machine has allowed it to grow even more and to accommodate unlimited ideas.

‘Can’t Look Away: Photographs of the Civil Rights Struggle’ New Docuseries Released by the Gund Gallery to Celebrate Black History Month

GAMBIER, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- The Gund Gallery at Kenyon College is pleased to announce the release of the first episode in the new docuseries "Can't Look Away: Photographs of the Civil Rights Struggle."

"Can't Look Away" seeks to reveal connections between the Black Lives Matter movements and the Civil Rights struggles of the 1950s and 60s through conversations centered on select photographs depicting the Civil Rights Era.

Developed as a way for the Gallery to inspire our community to critically engage with some of the most pressing issues we face today, each episode will feature experts from across Kenyon College discussing photographs made available for the program by Gund Gallery supporters David Horvitz '74 and Francie Bishop Good.

These images demand our attention and compel us to think deeply about the legacy of racism in the United States, leading us to explore how history can inform the ways we respond collectively to the legacy of unresolved racial strife that continues in our time.

The series begins with a wide-ranging dialog on Burt Glinn's Little Rock, Arkansas, 1957 that touches on subjects from the powers of the US Supreme Court, to the racial politics of the Cold War, and the influence of press coverage on the success of protest movements.

Discussants in the series include Glenn McNair, Professor of History; Francis Gourrier, Assistant Professor of American Studies and History; Austin Porter, Assistant Professor of Art History and American Studies; and Jodi Kovach, Curator of Academic Programs at the Gund Gallery.

"We had originally planned to release the first episode of this series at the beginning of February, in celebration of Black History Month," says J. Christopher Fahlman '72, director of operations and visitor experience at the Gund Gallery and project manager for the series. "COVID-19 concerns presented a number of challenges to our production, but with all the participants' cooperation, we were able to responsibly and safely realize this project with only a modest delay."

"It was important to all those working on 'Can't Look Away' that we make a contribution honoring African Americans and people of color who enrich our country in innumerable ways and are so often met with violent racism in their daily lives," adds Caroline Culbert, director of communication and engagement at the Gund Gallery. "By fully leveraging our expertise exploring the discursive nature of contemporary art, and making the resulting works available online for free, we hope to further the conversation around racial justice in our community and encourage others to engage in the tough conversations that drive structural change."

Olive Hill Kentucky: How One Small Appalachian Town Helped Build America

For decades, thousands of hard-working Olive Hillians dug, moulded, and fired that uncommon clay into hundreds of thousands of firebricks per day to line open hearth steel furnaces, locomotive fireboxes, and steamship boilers.

Without the steel, there would be no skyscrapers and no rail lines. Without the trains and ships, there would be no movement to expedite a growing nation. Olive Hill firebricks helped make this possible.

Davis dedicates the novel to anyone interested in Olive Hill, Kentucky - yesterday, today, or tomorrow.
