Melissa Martz’s Congressional Campaign Finishes First Quarter with Strong Grassroots Support

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- A tenacious fighter, attorney, mother and anti-child trafficking advocate, Melissa Martz hit the streets three months ago to garner community support for Florida's 18th Congressional District. More than 40 people have adorned their cars with large magnets acknowledging their commitment to her candidacy from the start.

A main tenet of her platform is to protect the innate value of each individual. Martz is a Constitutionalist, with a moral fire to see the inalienable rights of "We The People," protected by the government, not taken by it.

Government intrusion, overreach and outright corruption are happening at alarming rates, which is prompting a ground swell of support for new leadership in our country.

Martz is prepared to introduce and support legislation that supports Constitutional rights, restricts government overreach and protects our children. She is known as a woman of action and understands the God-given sovereignty of the individual.

Having survived childhood sexual abuse, Martz intends to educate others that the blatant exploitation and sexual abuse of children should never be tolerated. Remarks made by Representative Brian Mast on social media about "hooking up with 15, fifteen year olds" and "...don't turn this rape into a murder," make him unfit to hold public office, no matter how much money he is able to raise or how many times he apologizes.

"I appreciate U.S. Representative Mast's service and sacrifice to our country, but there are no answers that can vindicate his voting record against our 2nd Amendment rights or the horrendous comments he made about young girls," Martz states. This is Martz's motivation to avail herself to the community in this trying time.

Melissa Martz is a Constitutionalist, with a moral fire to see the inalienable rights of "We the people," protected by the government, not taken from them. Government intrusion, overreach and outright corruption are happening at alarming rates between lockdowns, election fraud and sexual abuse against our children, which remains underreported.

Georgia Black Women’s Roundtable Break from Battling Voter Suppression to Honor Valiant Women of the Vote

ATLANTA, Ga. /ScoopCloud/ -- Despite the ongoing efforts of many leaders to suppress the voices of Georgia residents, Black and Brown voters turned out in record numbers, electing the most diverse leadership in the state's history. Last week, the Georgia Coalition for the Peoples' Agenda's women's network, Georgia Black Women's Roundtable (BWR), took a short break from their fight against archaic voter suppression laws to recognize the historic leadership of local Black women during a virtual event, "Celebrating Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to Be Silenced."

"Black women have worked extremely hard over the past year to make sure every eligible voter was able to cast a ballot that counted without fear or intimidation," said Helen Butler, executive director of the Georgia Coalition for the Peoples' Agenda. "We wanted to take a moment to recognize the impact their service has had on our community, locally and nationally."

The first valiant woman of the vote, Dekalb County Commissioner Mereda Johnson, was elected to serve District 5 in 2015. A co-founding partner with the law firm of Johnson Hopewell Coleman, Commissioner Johnson has been a practicing attorney for more than 33 years, concentrating in family law. In 1985, she became the first Black female judge appointed in DeKalb County Courts.

"I decided to be a part of the change I wanted to see in Dekalb," said Commissioner Johnson. "Everyday I wake up to serve my neighbors and try to improve the quality of life in my community."

Gwinnett County Commissioner Nicole Love Hendrickson was elected chair of the Board of Commissioners in 2020, making her the first African American to hold this position. She was the founding director of the Gwinnett County Community Outreach program where she launched several community-based initiatives and has served on the boards of the United Way Gwinnett Community and the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Elected in 2020, Henry County Commissioner Carlotta Harrell is the daughter of a pastor and a freedom fighter. She is a managing partner and VP of Business Development with The Harrell Group, a women-owned consulting firm. Commissioner Harrell served as chief of staff for the Henry County Commissioner in District V and was a consultant for the Georgia Conference of African American Mayors, assisting mayors and cities with identifying over $300 million dollars in funding for infrastructure and economic development projects.

Prior to being sworn in as the county's first Black and first woman chairperson, Cobb County Commissioner Lisa Cupid served on the Board of Commissioners for eight years representing District Four. Commissioner Cupid is an attorney and former mediator, policy analyst and manufacturing process engineer. She is known as a strong advocate for the fair treatment of all of Cobb's residents and stakeholders regardless of geographic, demographic or economic standing. Her accomplishments include championing Cobb's newly instituted Sunday transit service and advocating for enhanced public safety measures.

The Rita Jackson Samuels Trailblazer Award was given to Felicia M. Davis, the co-founder of HBCU Green Fund and convener of Clayton County Black Women's Roundtable. Davis has been a staunch advocate for climate justice and spent just as much time promoting voting. Mentored by renowned civil rights leader, Dr. Joseph E. Lowery, Davis has led voter registration, education and mobilization initiatives locally and nationally. She serves on the board of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation and was a partner with the late Rita Samuels in Women Flying High, a business devoted to increasing women's participation in Atlanta airport contracts.

"My friend, Dr. Rita Jackson Samuels, would be so proud of the historic number of Black women elected officials in Georgia," said Davis. "Rita dedicated her life to women's empowerment, especially getting Black women elected. Today we're leading in Clayton, Cobb, Gwinnett, Dekalb, Henry and Douglas Counties, and throughout the state."

Dr. Samuels was a civil and women's right's visionary who worked alongside some of the most powerful leaders in the country including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. She became the first Black woman in Georgia's history to serve on the staff of a Georgia Governor and went on to serve in the staff of President Jimmy Carter.

The country’s most successful non-partisan congressional candidate Michael Moore announces 2022 campaign

NYC Mayor Candidate Campaigns for Back to Life to Real Solutions

Georgia Coalition for the Peoples’ Agenda Expands GOTV Activities for Georgia Senate Runoff Amid Ongoing Efforts to Disenfranchise Black Voters

ATLANTA, Ga. /ScoopCloud/ -- Ongoing efforts to suppress and invalidate the voices of Black voters in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Georgia have galvanized the Georgia Coalition for the Peoples' Agenda (Peoples' Agenda), Clayton County Black Women's Roundtable (BWR) and other groups to register, educate and mobilize voters for the upcoming Senate runoff elections. The disenfranchisement efforts serve as a rallying call and enabled the coalition to expand their get-out-the-vote activities.

"We organize year-round in the Black community and voters trust us. We will motivate them to vote," said Helen Butler, executive director of the Peoples' Agenda. "Before civil rights leaders like Dr. King and the founder of the Peoples' Agenda, Dr. Joseph Lowery, endured beatings and jail for us to have the right to vote, people used poll taxes, literacy tests and even violence to stop us from voting. Today, instead of suppressing Black voters, their efforts are creating a groundswell of support."

"We've received calls from across the country from people eager to help beyond the much-needed donations they're making," adds Felicia Davis, convener of Clayton County BWR, a member of the Peoples' Agenda coalition. "We need people outside of Georgia to help by calling their family and friends in Georgia and let them know to vote. With the Coronavirus raging we're encouraging voters to vote absentee by mail or early in-person to keep the lines at a minimum on Jan. 5."

In addition to celebrities and dignitaries volunteering to make calls, produce robo calls and public service announcements, state affiliates of the NCBCP Unity '20 Black Voting Campaign will keep their 2020 operations going to support Georgia GOTV activities. The Eastern Michigan Coalition on Black Civic Participation, Philly Unity Coalition, and Ohio Unity Coalition will help with phone banking, social media, texts, online events and the Clayton County BWR postcard campaign.

Despite the challenges created by the COVID-19 virus, the Peoples' Agenda has worked nonstop the entire year. They even spent Thanksgiving week training over 500 phone-bankers, registering and educating voters at turkey giveaways, and dispatching teams of canvassers to distribute flyer with voting information packaged with PPE door-to-door in communities throughout the state.

"It's clear that expanding access to absentee voting boosted turnout," said Butler. "The Peoples' Agenda is working with our partners to make sure voters receive and return their absentee ballot requests. For those who want to vote in-person, we're providing rides to the polls starting December 14 when early in-person voting begins."

"This year we lost Dr. Lowery, Rev. C. T. Vivian and Congressman John Lewis, three civil rights heroes whose sacrifices played a key role in the passing of the Voting Rights Act. Their memory fuels our resolve," adds Davis, who also serves as director of HBCU Green Fund. "Our message to anyone trying to suppress or void Black votes is best communicated through a quote from Dr. Lowery, 'We ain't going back. We've come too far, marched too long, prayed too hard, wept too bitterly, bled too profusely, and died too young, to let anybody turn back the clock on our journey to justice.'"

Royse Events to Host the 2020 California Statewide Candidates Forum: The Future of California

"Middle class Americans," adds Walsingham, "are suffering from debt and healthcare bills." A common rationale for basic income is automation in the workplace, which the McKinsey Global Institute says may eliminate 73 million jobs by 2030.

Interest in basic income has grown during COVID-19 after Congress passed a round of stimulus checks. A trial UBI in Stockton, Calif., showed that recipients increased spending on food by 12% from the same time last year.

More money in the hands of Americans means more spending. Walsingham says we can "replace the cycle of poverty with a cycle of prosperity," and that her campaign's Freedom Grant initiative is a step in that direction.

If elected, Blair Walsingham would be the first Democrat to represent Tennessee's 1st District in over a hundred years.

350 Bay Area Action Creating Climate Report Cards for California and Local Candidates

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Climate action group 350 Bay Area Action today announced climate report cards, to be issued for 2020 Bay Area candidates for the California Assembly and the state Senate. Local candidates in crucial city council and supervisorial races will also be rated. California is seen worldwide as a leader on climate change, ever since the passage of the Global Warming Solutions Act, Assembly Bill 32 (AB 32), in 2006. The 2020 goal, a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020, was met in 2016.

A subsequent bill, SB 32, updated California's climate targets - which, while ambitious, are not aggressive enough to meet science-based requirements. And many local governments, in California and elsewhere, have passed Climate Emergency resolutions. But the state is falling behind the 2030 goal, a 40% cut from those levels.

"We are seeing a rapid increase in awareness, especially among young people, that the climate crisis is happening right here and right now," said Laura Neish, Executive Director of 350 Bay Area Action. "Politicians have often resisted these concerns in favor of moneyed interests. So we're setting out to help get people elected who are listening to all of their constituents, especially the young. We want to elect people who will lead on urgently implementing solutions that will reduce climate- and health-harming emissions."

350 Bay Area Action is now reaching out to general election candidates and their campaigns with a questionnaire, seeking their positions on climate-related issues relevant to California. Current bills include SB 54, which bans single-use plastics, and AB 345, which establishes a buffer zone around schools, health clinics, and homes from oil and gas infrastructure. Local governments are being urged to pass Climate Emergency resolutions, to require the decarbonization of new buildings, and more.

In the coming weeks, questionnaire results will be tabulated, and answers will be publicized. The group will then rate candidates, issue candidate report cards, and announce endorsements.

Women and The Vote NYS Initiative Honors State Suffragists

"As anyone who has known me during my decade-long tenure as Avondale Estates city manager will tell you, I am not a hothead. I do not seek out confrontation, and I do not relish pointing out the mistakes of others. It's just not how I was raised, so I've remained quiet when confronted with disinformation and personal attacks about my decision to resign in 2017 and an employment contract over which I had zero influence. Perhaps too quiet for my own good. My faith that truth ultimately triumphs comes from the values I learned as a child. Plus, I've always enjoyed the old adage that 'No good comes from wrestling with a pig. You'll both get dirty, but the pig enjoys it.'

However, last weekend I changed my mind, because I realized that the absence of a factual account does not begin with the events leading up to and culminating in my resignation, but hails all the way back to my initial employment agreement with the City and through the annual employee review cycle during which my tenure was brought before the board, praised explicitly and extended. My conviction that truth prevails is unwavering, but my commitment to transparency and to the loyalty of my family, friends, supporters and neighbors demands that I speak out now.

My 2017 decision to resign was based primarily on my concern that elected officials, whether by ignorance or naivete, were not adhering to the City Charter and in particular to Section 2.30 related to Commission interference with administration. The official with authority to correct the situation failed to do so. My decision was painful, but ethically unavoidable, as I felt I had explored every alternative for resolving the issues. Frankly, I no longer had the conviction that I could do what was best for my hometown in the role of City Manager.

Not only was it time for me to go, it was also time for me to seek another role from which I could lead effectively. From my perspective, Avondale Estates may be growing and modernizing, but that does not mean it must shed long-standing traditions of transparency, integrity, trust or adherence to documented governing principles.

I think we can agree that we need them now more than ever.

In the aftermath of my resignation and the unintended conflict that arose as our residents struggled to understand decisions made out of public view, claims emerged that my employment agreement, including terms related to resignation and early retirement, were secretive, murky and probably unethical on my part. As common sense would dictate, city employees cannot approve the terms of their own employment. My only involvement in the terms of my hiring was possessing a valuable skillset and loyalty to a budget-conscious municipality poised for unprecedented change. The city of Avondale Estates made its offer, and I accepted the job as a career decision in line with my experience and skills.

It is that simple. The spurious assertion that I manipulated or conspired to influence my employment contract with Avondale Estates either at the time of my hiring or at any juncture prior to my resignation offends my family's reputation and can easily be disproven by reading public record.

Real Change: Expanding Congress to Include a Citizens Assembly

WASHINGTON D.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- An Assembly of 600 citizen-delegates is being established by NewUnity.Org and it is expected to eventually become a third-chamber of Congress via constitutional amendment, creating a tri-cameral legislature. The first session of the Assembly is scheduled to start in early 2020. Any U.S. citizen over the age of 18 can be a delegate to the Assembly, provided they satisfy some eligibility requirements.

The Assembly advances democracy and mitigates many of the issues that have plagued the political process. There are no special interests, no political parties and no big money donors involved in selection of delegates and therefore none of the conflicts of interests or compromises that afflict many who are elected to Congress. As a non-partisan body, the Assembly can reduce the polarization that permeates Washington and, indeed, the country.

There is no doubt Americans want real change. 66% of Americans say they want major structural change in government, according to a poll of Americans by U.Chicago Harris/AP-NORC which was released in May 2019. Reforming Congress is clearly the place to start. It has the lowest job-approval rating of any branch of government. Congress's approval rating is only 17%, according to Gallup Poll in Aug. 2019. For reference, approval of the Supreme Court is 51% and of the President is 39%, according to Gallup Polls as of September 2018 and August 2019, respectively.

These polls highlight the extent of America's frustration and disgust with the polarized state of politics and gridlock in government. Research by Greater Good at Univ of Berkeley in March 2019 describes the destructive impact that increasing polarization is having on America. In summary, the adverse impact includes: winner-take-all politics, demonization of opposing views, proliferation of partisan propaganda, increased stress and general distrust of government. As an institution whose members are not selected by political parties, the Assembly is a solution that can both improve democracy and unify the country.

Delegates will be chosen from a database of over 230 million adults by an independent non-partisan organization using a transparent selection process that is similar to selection for jury duty. Given the Assembly involves patriotic service to country, organizers believe many will consider it a supreme honor to serve their country.

As a group, Delegates will mirror the general population to a 99% confidence level with approximately 5% margin of error. A 55% super-majority of Delegates will be required to adopt any measure meaning, statistically, decisions of the Assembly are consistent with the majority of Americans 99% of the time. It is obvious that Congress, as currently structured, could not match the Assembly's 99% level of performance.

Furthermore, the Assembly's demographic composition will closely mirror America's whereas Congress' composition is very different. For example, in Congress, 25% are female vs 51% of America. Through its composition and its voting rules, the Assembly will be unique in reflecting the will of the people.

Direct participation in government by citizens is not a new concept. Citizens already participate directly in one branch of government, the judiciary, through jury duty. People who are called for jury duty are selected from a database of all citizens - a sort of lottery selection process modified with some eligibility requirements. Most Americans have been called to jury duty at some point in their life. Nearly 15% of American adults, over 30 million people, are summoned to jury duty each year, according to a study by the National Center for State Courts. The Assembly simply extends the concept of direct citizen participation to the legislative branch of government.

NewUnity.Org believes citizens should participate in making laws - not just administering them as a juror. Service in the Assembly may someday be referred to as 'Assembly duty.' As with jury duty, delegates will be compensated for service and expenses will be reimbursed.

Direct citizen participation alone would add a lot of value; but the Assembly does even more. Delegates are able to do research and they have access to data and resources to fully explore an issue. Then they debate the issue with other delegates who have opposing views and are equally well-informed. Some will be persuaded to change their original position on an issue. The outcome of this deliberative process are decisions that are well-considered and fully-informed. The government can look to the Assembly for guidance on what the American people really think about issues and policies - rather than relying upon polls of uninformed people. This clearly would be a significant improvement over the present situation.

The Assembly's model is applying, on a national scale, a concept that is being tested in Dallas this week at an event called America in One Room or A1R. Five hundred citizens have been selected to statistically mirror America and they will debate five major national issues over three days. A1R will show if citizens can come together to seriously debate and vote on major issues. Direct citizen participation has already been applied successfully in over 25 countries globally. A1R is a Helena Project and involves Stanford University's Center for Deliberative Democracy and NORC at the University of Chicago. Lessons from A1R will be useful in establishing the Assembly and other direct democracy initiatives. The New York Times published an Op-Ed about A1R in August and is expected to publish outcomes of A1R after the event. Lessons from A1R will inform the operation of the Assembly.

"Everyone will have the chance to be a modern 'Mr. Smith' as in the classic movie 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington' - an ordinary citizen is able to have a meaningful impact on government," said Ms. Anderson, a spokesperson for NewUnity.Org. "The Assembly reflects the actual will of the people in the entire country rather than representatives that are influenced by their political party, special interests and reflect the narrow preferences of those in their district who happen to vote on one day." Finally, she stated, "New Unity.Org does not undertake this initiative with a view to favor, or disfavor, any political party. "The third element is Land, because we were promised 40 acres and a mule, so if you multiply 40 acres times 10 million people will equate to over 400 million acres of land.

"And finally, we need Grants specifically for banks, businesses, hospitals, schools, science, and technology.

Republican Candidate for Clark County Commissioner District F Says Democrats Insert RINO Republican into Race

Since he was 18, Tracy has been a registered Republican. He joined the Orange County Young Republicans at 22 and has owned a small business - a limousine service. And, he's donated limousine services to the Orange County Young Republican group as well as to the Make-A-Wish-Foundation.

Since moving to Clark County in 1999, he's been involved with "We the People" of District F and has contributed to the community through charity work and neighborhood watches. Curious about the community at large, he's also done a ride-along with the Las Vegas Metro Police Department and visited local fire stations to talk with fire fighters about issues they face.

Tracy has never and will never support a Democrat.

"I'm a Pro Trump supporter, Reagan conservative, Tea Party supporter, anti-establishment, anti-elitist, 'America First' candidate," he says. "I'm also the only U.S. military veteran running for this seat," he says.

If elected, Tracy will work to get more police officers on the street and to improve response times. He will also work to lower property taxes and sales taxes, bring more jobs into the area, and get free parking for local residents at casinos.

Tracy says that President Trump needs Clark County to go Red for 2020. They don't need a RINO.

City of La Mesa offers Official Proclamation in Support of Ferret Legalization for California

LA MESA, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Mayor Mark Arapostathis and all members of the La Mesa City Council issued a proclamation on November 9 urging the California State Legislature to pass ferret legalization legislation, non-profit Legalize Ferrets announced today.

The original request was for La Mesa to declare itself a ferret sanctuary city. The idea drew support, but many people objected to the term "sanctuary." The request was made to declare La Mesa a "ferret friendly city."

Ferret owners were aided at first by city councilwoman Kristine Alessio who has had experience with Savannah cat legalization issues and knew what ferret owners are facing in a hostile Fish and Game Commission and apathetic California legislature.

"We were also aided by city councilman Bill Baber who sympathized with us for facing another useless and outdated law backed up by an out of touch state agency," said Pat Wright of Legalize Ferrets.

Mayor Mark Arapostathis was an outstanding ally of the ferrets and recommended a proclamation.

Wright added, "We are also grateful to City Councilmen Guy McWhiter and Colin Parent who agreed with the absurdity and cruelty of California's anti-ferret law and signed on to the proclamation."

California ferret lovers continue to be rejected or ignored by California legislators but are achieving support from cities around California. Culver City has already put the ferret issue on their city council agenda and ferret lovers are next set to ask the Encinitas city council.

Now that we have this proclamation we are set to ask cities around California to adopt the ferret friendly resolution.

Mark Miller Announces Candidacy for Texas Railroad Commissioner

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 2, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Mark Miller announced today that he is seeking the Libertarian Party of Texas' nomination for Texas Railroad Commissioner in 2016.

Dr. Miller was the 2014 Libertarian nominee for Texas Railroad Commissioner and is again running for office because he believes it is imperative for the Texas Railroad Commission to serve all Texans, not just the oil and gas industry.

"As Commissioner, I promise to transform the agency by bringing increased transparency and accountability, a culture of simplification and regular review, and a new focus on surface property rights," says Miller.

The only other announced candidate for the post is the incumbent Commission Chairman, Mr. David Porter. "During Commissioner Porter's tenure, the Railroad Commission was embroiled in many controversies surrounding oil and gas development in Texas," notes Miller. "Among them were appropriate regulations for wastewater wells that trigger earthquakes and eminent domain abuse by common carrier pipelines. Sadly, regulations promulgated by the Commission under Porter's watch turned out to be nothing more than window-dressing, resulting in additional bureaucratic busy-work, but with no substantive positive effects on protecting the Texas public. Even more sadly, this appears to be the usual state of affairs at the most important of state agencies."
