The Mortgage Collaborative Helps Lender Member Resolve VA Loan Issue, Restoring Lender Authority

SAN DIEGO, Calif., March 27, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Mortgage Collaborative (TMC) has once again demonstrated the power of its network by swiftly assisting lenders to resolve a critical VA lending issue that had stalled loan processing nationwide. Through rapid collaboration, direct engagement with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and the persistence of key TMC members, impacted lenders regained their VA underwriting and insurance authority in just one week—ensuring veterans could move forward with their home purchases.

Image caption: The Mortgage Collaborative Network at Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX during the March Live Large, Think Big! TMC Conference.

On March 13, Max Leaman, CEO of LoanPeople, informed TMC Member Benefits Advocate Sarah Wood that a transition to the VA’s new PPM system had inadvertently stripped multiple lenders of their automatic authority and SAR designations. The widespread issue threatened to delay thousands of veteran home purchases, including three loans at immediate risk.

Despite repeated attempts by lenders to resolve the matter, progress had stalled.

“Our VA underwriting authority was unexpectedly revoked due to a systems issue,” said Leaman. “After two weeks and 30+ hours of calls with no resolution, I reached out to Sarah at TMC. She quickly connected us with key TMC members and brought in TMC Director of Membership Growth, Toni Bramley, and their work had us reinstated within 48 hours. This is exactly why TMC exists—when a member faces a challenge, the network mobilizes to find a solution and gets it done.”

Wood immediately engaged TMC’s member network, bringing in experienced VA lenders to strategize solutions. Industry leaders including Khash Sagahafi and Michelle Massucci (Liberty Home Mortgage Corporation), Kim Mason (Atlantic Bay Mortgage Corporation), and Teresa Rose (Western Ohio Mortgage Corp) provided critical guidance, shared contacts, and helped troubleshoot interim solutions to keep loans moving while compliance issues were addressed.

Support continued at TMC’s Live Large, Think Big! conference in Dallas (March 16-18), where Wood and Bramley worked behind the scenes, leveraging direct VA connections and coordinating efforts. By March 20, their persistence paid off—lenders had their VA automatic authority and SAR designations reinstated.

“TMC’s network is built on collaboration,” said Sarah Wood. “When a lender faces a challenge, no one hesitates to step in. It’s not just about fixing an issue—it’s about ensuring real people get into their homes. This was a true team effort, and I’m incredibly proud of the dedication that made it happen.”

TMC CEO and President Jodi Hall echoed this sentiment, saying “Sarah and Toni were relentless. Their dedication is a testament to how greater impact is achieved together and how our accountability to our members’ success drives everything we do.”

“This is a relationship-driven network, and that’s how you get things done,” added Toni Bramley.

California Ferret Advocates Push Forward – Support Needed for Petition 2025-003!

LA MESA, Calif., March 18, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Ferret lovers across California and the nation are rallying behind Petition 2025-003, now officially acknowledged by the California Fish and Game Commission (FGC). This petition seeks to reclassify ferrets as domestic animals, challenging California’s outdated and scientifically unsupported ban, LegalizeFerrets.org announced today.

Domestic ferrets are pets and don't exist in the wild
Image caption: Domestic ferrets are pets and don’t exist in the wild.

Despite being legal in 48 other states, ferrets remain classified as wild and detrimental in California—without public input or scientific justification. The Commission is set to review the petition in its upcoming meetings, and public support is critical to ensure fair consideration.

KEY MEETING DATES & HOW TO PARTICIPATE

The Fish and Game Commission will discuss Petition 2025-003 at the following meetings:

  • April 16-17, 2025 | Capitol Event Center, Sacramento, CA
  • June 11-12, 2025 | Sacramento area (Venue TBD)

Supporters are encouraged to attend in person or virtually and to submit written comments in favor of reclassifying ferrets as domestic animals.

HOW TO TAKE ACTION:

:: Attend the meetings – Show up in person or participate virtually. Details will be posted on FGC’s website.

:: Submit public comments – Email fgc@fgc.ca.gov or mail:
California Fish and Game Commission
P.O. Box 944209
Sacramento, CA 94244-2090

:: Share and spread the word – Let others know why ferrets deserve fair treatment under the law!

WHY THIS MATTERS

“Ferrets are not wild or dangerous. They’ve been domesticated for thousands of years,” said Pat Wright, founder of LegalizeFerrets.org. “California’s ban is based on outdated fears, and it’s time to correct this injustice. The Fish and Game Commission is legally obligated under the Administrative Procedure Act (APA) to provide a fair and transparent review of our petition.”

CALL TO ACTION

This is a rare and crucial opportunity to finally bring ferrets into the legal pet category where they belong. California pet lovers, veterinarians, and animal welfare advocates must come together to ensure the Commission fairly considers Petition 2025-003.

Act Now! The Commission will be reviewing the petition soon—make sure they hear your voice!

Local Author Launches New Non-Profit Called Neighbors as Family Inspired by her First Novel, ‘A Walk Down Rushville’

LA JOLLA, Calif., March 12, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — La Jolla resident Barbara Burton (also known as Barbara Graf) has launched the non-profit organization Neighbors as Family (NAF), aimed at supporting individuals to make connections and create a chosen family in their neighborhoods. There are many people who are no longer connected to their birth family, whether because of dysfunction, estrangement, loss or other reasons. As humans, we need connection, yet often when the connection to our family of origin is lost, we look to others close-by to create that bond… our neighbors.

La Jolla author Barbara Burton proud to launch new non-profit, Neighbors as Family
Photo caption: La Jolla author Barbara Burton proud to launch new non-profit, Neighbors as Family.

The Neighbors as Family vision is simple: Because of neighbors, no one needs to be without a family. Neighbors As Family is a real non-profit inspired by Burton’s fictional book, “A Walk Down Rushville” (ISBN: 979-8885043847).

The concept is introduced by Skyler, the protagonist in the contemporary fiction novel. Skyler faced depression, loneliness, and estrangement from her family of origin but finds love, acceptance, and connection with the neighbors around her.

The character’s journey inspired the author to make the organization real. “The NAF concept came to me in a dream while I was writing the book. I wanted my character to be able to make a difference in the world, to make a contribution in some way,” said Burton. “As she moved away from depression and grief and embraced the love of her neighbors around her, the idea came to her that an organization could encourage those without a family to connect with neighbors—thus, the concept was born in the story. Then, I made a decision to make it real and establish a nonprofit in the state of California.”

Neighbors have always been important to Burton, and to this day, many of her best friends live within blocks of her home.

Neighbors are also important to Jim Thimmes of La Jolla. “My neighbors are truly like family members to me. I have taken my neighbors to the hospital or doctor’s office for appointments and they have done the same for me,” said Thimmes. “Our mutual families are out of town so these people are my family. I applaud an organization that encourages families to reach out to a neighbor that might be alone or without support. Let’s share these stories of connection. These are the stories that will help us understand that the strength of a neighborhood is in the compassion of families and neighbors coming together through life’s journey.”

Photo caption: (L-R): La Jolla neighbors Jim Thimmes and Georgia Schweitzer enjoy coffee together.

Creating this non-profit was an unexpected development, and Burton is looking forward to building Neighbors as Family into something that will bring joy and fulfillment to those who are yearning for the connection that family provides.

For more information on making neighborly connections, to share a photo or personal story about neighbors, to get involved, or to make a donation, visit https://neighborsasfamily.org/.

MCT Reports 28% Increase in Mortgage Lock Volume Heading into Spring Season

SAN DIEGO, Calif., March 11, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Mortgage Capital Trading, Inc. (MCT®), the de facto leader in innovative mortgage capital markets technology, today announced a 27.91% increase in mortgage lock volume compared to the previous month. Industry professionals and stakeholders are encouraged to download the full report for a detailed analysis.

MCT Reports 28% Increase in Mortgage Lock Volume Heading into Spring Season
Image caption: MCT Reports 28% Increase in Mortgage Lock Volume Heading into Spring Season.

The increase in volume follows the typical seasonal pattern, rebounding from the December and January winter lull. As the housing market transitions into the Spring homebuying season, this positive movement suggests improving market activity. However, recent trends indicate that total volume may rise further in March and April before tapering off as early-season buyers finalize their purchases, leading to decreased demand in the deeper summer months.

External economic factors also remain a key area of focus. The potential impact of tariffs and possible retaliatory trade measures could introduce volatility into the broader economy, which may, in turn, affect mortgage rates. Market participants are watching these developments closely as they navigate lending and investment decisions.

Andrew Rhodes, Senior Director and Head of Trading at MCT, shared his perspective on the current financial landscape: “The expectation is that the Federal Reserve will likely hold the line on rates in March and May, with markets anticipating a likely rate cut in June. Economic performance given impending tariffs, Nonfarm Payroll, and the Consumer Price Index (CPI) will continue to be the biggest factors influencing rate decisions as we move into the summer months.”

As mortgage lenders and capital markets participants prepare for evolving conditions, MCT remains committed to delivering expert guidance and data-driven insights. For a more in-depth look at market dynamics, industry professionals can access the full report on MCT’s website.

MCT Introduces Atlas: Generative AI Advisor for Mortgage Capital Markets

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Feb. 27, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Mortgage Capital Trading, Inc. (MCT®), the de facto leader in innovative mortgage capital markets technology, today announced the release of Atlas, an artificial intelligence (AI) advisor now available within the MCTlive! platform. Atlas serves as a virtual capital markets expert and high-quality educational resource for MCT’s mortgage lender clients. With this launch, effective February 10, 2025, MCT continues its tradition of innovation in secondary marketing technology, offering clients instant access to expert knowledge and paving the way for future AI-driven workflows that will save clients time and improve their financial performance.

MCTlive! Press Release
Image caption: MCTlive! Press Release.

“We’re proud to be the first mortgage capital markets platform to put AI in the hands of every client,” said Phil Rasori, COO of MCT and architect of Atlas. “AI has the potential to improve performance and act as a force multiplier for capital markets professionals, but only if it is deployed responsibly and transparently with careful protections for client data ownership and privacy.”

Atlas is built to the highest standards of data security and privacy after a year of careful planning, development, and testing by internal teams:

  • No client data has been exchanged with or used to train Atlas.
  • Atlas was trained on proprietary educational material, which is continually expanded as new innovations and subjects are covered.
  • The large language model supporting Atlas follows a strict escrow process that warrants its isolation from both developers and user data.
  • Retrieval augmented generation keeps the knowledge base stored in MCT’s private cloud environment.
  • Limited context “chunks” and function calling are used to further reduce external data transfer.

“Leadership through industry expertise and exceptional client service have been enduring core values at MCT,” said Curtis Richins, CEO. “Now we are extending that capability through Atlas, providing the collective knowledge of our experts on-demand. Whether clients are looking for instructions on platform processes or explanations of key calculations, they can now get answers with unprecedented speed and transparency.”

Atlas is currently designed for expertise distribution, effectively providing instant access to the combined knowledge base of MCT. Atlas will soon expand to include agentic report summarization and the ability to conduct core processes, which will be debuted at the MCT Exchange client conference to be held in San Diego next month. As these functions are made available, an opt-in will be provided that defines the limited client data that will be required to enable these and future capabilities.

Mortgage lenders interested in the benefits Atlas can provide their secondary marketing operations are encouraged to contact MCT.

TOP INDUSTRY CHALLENGES

Lenders identified five critical issues they faced in 2024:

  • Technology Inefficiencies – Many lenders report their tech stacks are costly and underperforming, prompting a shift toward smarter automation.

KEY STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS

Despite challenges, lenders are proactively adjusting their strategies and focusing on these goals in 2025:

Mortgage Lock Volume Stays Flat in Latest MCT February Indices

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Feb. 6, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Mortgage Capital Trading, Inc. (MCT®), the de facto leader in innovative mortgage capital markets technology, announced today a 0.12% decrease in mortgage lock volume compared to the previous month. Industry professionals and market enthusiasts are encouraged to download the complete report for a deeper understanding of the latest market trends and dynamics.

Mortgage Lock Volume Stays Flat in Latest MCT February Indices
Image caption: Mortgage Lock Volume Stays Flat in Latest MCT February Indices.

Despite the drop in refinance volume, purchase volume has remained steady, resulting in relatively no change in overall production volume month-over-month. The stability in purchase volume continues to support market activity while the industry awaits potential shifts in interest rates.

MCT’s data did show an increase in refinance production in the latter half of January. However, this uptick is likely attributable to the seasonal lull of the holiday period when compared to the end of December.

The outlook for the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting remains uncertain, as additional data is required to refine market predictions. “Tariffs, if or when implemented, may have an impact on inflation which will have influence over the next Fed decision,” said Andrew Rhodes, Senior Director and Head of Trading at MCT. “This, along with upcoming Nonfarm payroll and Consumer Price Index (CPI) reports, will help determine the outlook for mortgage rates heading into the Spring season.”

MCT’s latest report offers an in-depth analysis of these factors, providing valuable insights to lenders, investors, and industry stakeholders as they navigate the shifting mortgage landscape. To access the full report and learn more about MCT’s innovative solutions, visit MCT’s website.

MCT’s Lock Volume Indices present a snapshot of rate lock volume activity in the residential mortgage industry broken out by lock type (purchase, rate/term refinance, and cash out refinance) across a broad diversity of lenders (e.g., sizes, products/services offered, business models) from MCT’s national footprint.

Optimal Blue Introduces Seven Major Innovations at Its Inaugural User Summit in San Diego

Company continues its streak of aggressive product innovation and no-cost feature additions

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Feb. 4, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Optimal Blue today unveiled a series of new products and features, alongside its major Ask Obi AI assistant announcement, at its Summit user conference in San Diego. These innovation announcements underscore the company’s commitment to delivering high-impact solutions, at no additional cost, that tackle real-world challenges and help lenders maximize profitability.

Optimal Blue logo
Image caption: Optimal Blue.

“Today more than ever, lenders need software and data solutions that empower them to make smarter business decisions and operate with efficiency, and Optimal Blue is demonstrating our commitment to helping them navigate and thrive in this complex and highly regulated environment,” said Erin Wester, chief product officer at Optimal Blue. “The products and features announced at our Optimal Blue Summit are not simply software – they are solutions designed specifically to help lenders maximize their profitability, built based on real feedback gathered from our hundreds of clients. These innovations are a testament to Optimal Blue’s state-of-the-art product, research and development, and engineering teams that go to work for the benefit of our clients every day.”

Major product enhancements announced during the Summit include:

ORIGINATOR ASSISTANT

Originator Assistant is an AI-powered tool in the Optimal Blue PPE that identifies alternate loan scenarios that can produce more competitive pricing, helping loan officers have more strategic discussions with borrowers to win more business. Originator Assistant further amplifies Optimal Blue’s Scenario Optimizer tool, which was introduced last fall to allow clients to run up to three pricing scenarios side-by-side. Originator Assistant examines applicable adjustments, margins, and other price components, and identifies where small loan setup/parameter changes could positively impact pricing. Fully embedded within a loan officer’s workflow, Originator Assistant runs behind-the-scenes as part of every scenario search.

RULES OPTIMIZER

Rules Optimizer is a feature in the Optimal Blue PPE that allows lenders to streamline the rule creation process by creating a single rule and applying it to multiple investor relationships. This gives lenders flexibility to take advantage of both one-to-one and one-to-many investor relationships or custom rule writing. Rules Optimizer also offers change history tracking so users can easily see updated rules and investors/products at a granular level, as well as the ability to schedule run periods in advance to support specials and limited-time promotions. Rules Optimizer is built on top of the Optimal Blue PPE’s system-maintained ratesheet content, which is regarded for its industry-leading accuracy.

RATESHEET TOOL

The Ratesheet Tool is a feature that connects front-end pricing (i.e., origination) with back-end pricing (i.e., secondary) to allow lenders to generate ratesheet pricing with a known margin, accurately. Linking to both the Optimal Blue PPE and the CompassEdge hedging and loan trading platform, the Ratesheet Tool allows secondary users to access a back-end price and deliver a more accurate execution price to originators. The Ratesheet Tool offers a new way for lenders to generate ratesheets with their own proprietary pricing, with precision and accuracy from secondary to origination. This solution showcases a distinct benefit lenders can only realize from working with Optimal Blue, given the company’s end-to-end capital markets platform encompassing both product and pricing and hedging and trading.

CONFIRM ASSISTANT

Confirm Assistant is a feature in the CompassEdge hedging and loan trading platform that reduces both the time and potential for manual errors associated with reading TBA trade confirmation files. The tool uses AI to read files from broker-dealers, parsing the documents into usable formats. With Confirm Assistant, users simply drag and drop confirmation files and approve them without having to manually key in data. This benefits users by reducing manual, time-consuming steps and freeing up staff to focus on more complex trades.

MORTGAGE RATE FUTURES

First announced in November 2024, Optimal Blue has partnered with CME Group, the world’s leading derivatives marketplace, to provide the Optimal Blue Mortgage Market Index (OBMMI) as the foundation for CME Group’s new Mortgage Rate futures. Launched on Jan. 13, 2025, Mortgage Rate futures are cash-settled contracts that provide direct exposure to the latest primary mortgage rate available to borrowers, giving mortgage originators an additional instrument to hedge pipeline and servicing risk. The contracts are the first-ever to be based on the 30-Year Fixed Rate Conforming OBMMI, which is designed for IOSCO compliance and tracks real-time rate lock data from more than one-third of U.S. residential mortgage originations.

SOLUTION CENTER

The Solution Center is a partner marketplace within Optimal Blue’s Comergence platform that expands revenue opportunities for mortgage lenders and investors and third-party partners and vendors. The Solution Center provides a platform where users can sell products and services through a two-sided marketplace of vetted integration partners. It supports more streamlined vendor communication, and the Solution Center Academy provides a resource for asynchronous training, helping investors promote strategic relationships, as well as required trainings, for their third-party originators.

ASK OBI

Finally, as announced earlier today, Ask Obi is Optimal Blue’s new standalone AI assistant that gives executives instant, interactive access to granular data insights and trends to improve business decisions. Ask Obi gives lenders the power to view their operations holistically with data aggregation across Optimal Blue’s comprehensive capital markets platform, reaching from loan origination data through hedging and trading.

Optimal Blue’s Summit user conference features multi-track sessions exploring AI and automation trends, profitability strategies, market insights, and more, led by leading economists, policymakers, and lenders, as well as the company’s own subject matter experts.

About Optimal Blue:

Optimal Blue effectively bridges the primary and secondary mortgage markets to deliver the industry’s only end-to-end capital markets platform. Optimal Blue Announces Ask Obi, an AI Assistant to Provide Mortgage Lending Executives With Real-Time Business Insights

Conversational generative AI chat assistant to provide easy-to-understand, interactive insights and graphical representations to help lenders maximize profitability

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Feb. 4, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Optimal Blue today announced Ask Obi, an AI assistant designed to provide mortgage lending executives with instant, actionable insights from their Optimal Blue products and data. Unveiled during Optimal Blue’s inaugural Summit user conference in San Diego, Ask Obi gives lenders the power to view their operations holistically with data aggregation across Optimal Blue’s comprehensive capital markets platform.

Optimal Blue logo
Image caption: Optimal Blue.

Ask Obi enables executives to inquire about intricate profitability metrics with simple, conversational queries – such as, “What markets had the greatest change in average margins from Q3 2024 to Q4 2024?” or “Which loan officers issued the most concessions over the second week of January 2025?” – and get easy-to-understand answers at a granular level to improve strategic decision-making.

“Our clients operate in a time when speed and accuracy matters, so having to wait for reports to be generated – only to then spend more time poring over those reports to get to the insights needed to make decisions – doesn’t make sense,” said Joe Tyrrell, CEO of Optimal Blue. “With Ask Obi, those hours of generating, compiling, and analyzing reports are replaced with accurate, real-time, personalized information, designed specifically for decision-makers, by delivering the data that matters most to their profitability. While other companies are talking about AI, but in reality are still trying to catch up to our accuracy and core capabilities, Optimal Blue has already embraced generative AI to solve real operational and capital markets challenges, all at no additional cost to our clients.”

“Ask Obi demonstrates the unique value clients realize by working with Optimal Blue, a provider of comprehensive capital markets technology,” said Erin Wester, chief product officer of Optimal Blue. “Through the power of generative AI, users can have an interactive conversation to better understand the data that drives their business. In contrast to other tools that may require filters and manual selections, Ask Obi is designed for ease of use and conversational interactions, while conveniently building off a user’s previous inquiries and suggesting preloaded questions.”

Available to Optimal Blue clients for beta testing later this month, Ask Obi offers complete access to a lender’s PPE data, with development work underway to expand access across Optimal Blue’s complete capital markets platform. This initiative aligns with Optimal Blue’s larger vision to deliver comprehensive interoperability among its end-to-end capital markets products, allowing clients to benefit from synthesized data and machine learning for enhanced margin management and profitability oversight.

Ask Obi is one of several innovations the company announced at its Summit, demonstrating its commitment to continuous investment in its products to help its clients maximize lending profitability.

About Optimal Blue:

Optimal Blue effectively bridges the primary and secondary mortgage markets to deliver the industry’s only end-to-end capital markets platform. The company helps lenders of all sizes and scopes maximize profitability and operate efficiently so they can help American borrowers achieve the dream of homeownership. MCT Reports 16% Decrease in Mortgage Lock Volume Amid Market Dynamics

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Jan. 14, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Mortgage Capital Trading, Inc. (MCT®), the de facto leader in innovative mortgage capital markets technology, announced today a 16.7% decrease in mortgage lock volume compared to the previous month. Industry professionals and market enthusiasts are encouraged to download the complete report to gain comprehensive insights into the evolving market dynamics.

MCT Lock Volume Indices
Image caption: Lock Volume for December by Transaction Type.

December’s mortgage activity saw a slight uptick in refinance production. However, this increase was not enough to significantly impact overall production levels. The majority of December’s mortgage activity stemmed from purchase volume, reflecting a consistent trend in the current housing market.

“The Fed is expected to hold rates steady for longer as we continue to see a strong jobs market coupled with lowering inflation,” stated Andrew Rhodes, Senior Director and Head of Trading at MCT. “As we move into 2025, nonfarm payroll and the Consumer Price Index (CPI) will continue to be critical data points providing insight into any potential rate cuts. However, the more immediate focus is on the incoming administration policy changes and their effect on the market.”

The market is currently pricing in an expectation of higher mortgage rates for a longer period, influenced by stronger-than-expected nonfarm payroll numbers and the conservative nature of the Federal Reserve’s dot plot projections.

MCT’s latest report offers an in-depth analysis of these factors, providing valuable insights to lenders, investors, and industry stakeholders as they navigate the shifting mortgage landscape.

MCT Reports a 15% Decrease in Mortgage Lock Volume Amid Higher Rates

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Dec. 11, 2024 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Mortgage Capital Trading, Inc. (MCT®), the de facto leader in innovative mortgage capital markets technology, has announced a 15.12% decrease in mortgage lock volume compared to the previous month. The data, reflecting current market dynamics, is available in MCT’s latest report, which offers in-depth analysis and insights for industry professionals and stakeholders.

Lock Volume for November by Transaction Type
Image caption: Image Caption: Lock Volume for November by Transaction Type.

While the market exhibited relative stability post-election, a clear downtrend in refinance activity was observed as interest rates settled. Heading into the winter months and with a new presidential administration taking office in January, volatility concerns remain a focal point for the industry. Current expectations suggest that mortgage volume will stay low through the early months of the year.

Andrew Rhodes, Senior Director and Head of Trading at MCT, commented on the outlook: “Most lenders have already priced in at least one rate cut in either December or January. Barring unforeseen events, mortgage rates are predicted to remain relatively steady through the winter months.”

Industry forecasts indicate that rates are likely to hold or increase slightly, further dampening refinance activity. With the evolving market landscape, industry professionals are encouraged to stay informed of potential shifts in the coming months.

For further insights into the current mortgage market and the latest trends in lock volume, MCT invites industry professionals to download the full report.

MCT Announces 2.5% Increase in Mortgage Lock Volume Despite October Market Volatility

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Nov. 15, 2024 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Mortgage Capital Trading, Inc. (MCT®), the de facto leader in innovative mortgage capital markets technology, reported a 2.5% increase in mortgage lock volume compared to the previous month. Mortgage market professionals and industry enthusiasts are invited to download MCT’s comprehensive report to gain deeper insights into the current market dynamics.

MCT Mortgage Lock Volume Indices Oct 2024

October proved to be a dynamic month for the mortgage market. An increase in mortgage rates, spurred by election volatility, led to a reversal of the refinancing uptick observed in September. However, a rise in purchase volume during the month managed to counterbalance the decline in refinancing, resulting in overall month-over-month lock volume remaining relatively flat.

The uncertainty surrounding the elections caused temporary market disruptions and a downturn in markets, which has now eased following the decisive election results. This change has brought a level of stability and clarity to the market.

Andrew Rhodes, Senior Director and Head of Trading at MCT, stated, “With the election and last Thursday’s Federal Reserve meeting behind us, we anticipate markets will stabilize with the new focus on November jobs and CPI data points.”

For further insights into the current mortgage market and the latest trends in lock volume, MCT invites industry professionals to download the full report.

MCT Empowers Mortgage Hedging Performance with Customized Spec Durations

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Oct. 24, 2024 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Mortgage Capital Trading, Inc. (MCT®), the de facto leader in innovative mortgage capital markets technology, announced today an improvement to functionality through customizable duration analysis for specified loan products. Mortgage lenders using the comprehensive capital markets platform MCTlive! now have the ability to increase, review, and refine the granularity of their spec durations, leading to more precise hedging and reduced basis risk. The new specified loan durations functionality, customized to the given lender’s execution, puts the formerly back-end modeling directly in the hands of mortgage capital markets professionals.

MCT Empowers Mortgage Hedging Performance with Customized Spec Durations
Image caption: MCT Empowers Mortgage Hedging Performance with Customized Spec Durations.

“Pricing granularity in the secondary mortgage market has steadily increased for nearly a decade. We feel it is essential to give clients transparency and customized control around spec durations,” said Phil Rasori, COO of MCT. “As evidenced by the Mission Score programs and the latest low loan balance specified pool tranches, a rising share of production can be expected to be spec eligible in the future. With this release, our clients are prepared to reap the benefits of that trend while maintaining the strongest possible hedge performance.”

Specified loan products available to be sold to the agency cash windows or Ginnie Mae securitizations yield better pricing for mortgage lenders, but their durations vary compared to non-spec production, which, if not properly accounted for, exposes hedged mortgage pipelines to basis risk and underperformance. Many lenders choose to adjust for the spec duration variance by estimating off an average of their pipeline expected to be spec eligible, but this approach leaves them vulnerable to changes in the makeup of their pipeline.

MCT’s superior approach runs an analysis of each execution of each spec program to calculate and set spec durations. These executions include product-level cash window, dealer pay-up survey and, most importantly, MCTlive! platform specified pool executions. Spec durations are now available for review and customization by clients. This new functionality is designed for seasoned capital markets professionals to get involved in the process themselves rather than having it managed by MCT experts. Lenders interested in a refresher are encouraged to read Duration & Convexity in Mortgage Pipeline Hedging.

“Giving our clients and traders the ability to match their loan durations to their spec executions provides them a critical edge in the industry-wide progression towards higher pricing granularity,” said Andrew Rhodes, Senior Director, Head of Trading at MCT. “For lenders delivering significant specified loan production, increasing duration granularity can bring about a meaningful improvement in their hedge performance.”

Mortgage lenders interested in learning more about how granular spec durations may increase their hedge performance are encouraged to schedule a consultation with MCT for the upcoming MBA Annual Convention and Expo.

Legalize Ferrets Pauses Lawsuit, Files Petition for Regulatory Change with California Office of Administrative Law

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Oct. 11, 2024 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Legalize Ferrets, the grassroots organization advocating for the legalization of domestic ferrets in California, has announced a strategic pause in its ongoing lawsuit in San Diego Superior Court. The decision follows the filing of a petition for regulatory change with the California Office of Administrative Law (OAL), marking a new approach in the effort to challenge the state’s longstanding ban on ferrets.

Legalize Ferrets Files Petition for Regulatory Change with California Office of Administrative Law
Image caption: Legalize Ferrets Files Petition for Regulatory Change with California Office of Administrative Law.

The shift in strategy stems from the fact that California’s ferret ban, enacted in 1931, predates the establishment of the OAL and the Administrative Procedure Act (APA). The APA mandates that all regulations go through a formal process to ensure transparency, accountability, and public input—something that did not occur with the ferret ban. By filing this petition, Legalize Ferrets is now addressing the issue where it originated: before the OAL.

“We believe this petition represents our best path forward,” said Pat Wright, founder of Legalize Ferrets. “The OAL was created to ensure that regulations like this are properly vetted through a formal process, which is something the ferret ban has never gone through. We are optimistic that this will lead to a fair and thorough review, which has been missing for nearly a century.”

The OAL has sixty days to respond to the petition, during which Legalize Ferrets remains committed to pursuing all available avenues for justice. While the lawsuit in San Diego Superior Court is paused, the group believes that the regulatory petition offers a strong chance of success by revisiting the legal basis for the ban.

“We’re not stepping back – we’re simply changing our approach,” Wright added. “We’re confident that the regulatory process will allow for a fresh and fair review of the facts, and we encourage our supporters to stay engaged and continue pushing for change.”

Supporters are encouraged to sign the Change.org petition to further the cause.

About Legalize Ferrets:

Legalize Ferrets is a grassroots organization dedicated to the legalization of domestic ferrets in California. The group advocates for legislative and regulatory changes to overturn the nearly century-old ban on ferrets in the state. Through legal action, public outreach, and education, Legalize Ferrets aims to ensure that ferret owners can enjoy the same rights as pet owners in 48 other states.

MCT Expands MSR Valuation Options with AD&Co Prepayment Model

Addition of Internationally Recognized Model Enhances Scenario Testing, Precision, and Confidence for MSR Managers

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Oct. 8, 2024 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Mortgage Capital Trading, Inc. (MCT®), the de facto leader in innovative mortgage capital markets technology, today announced the integration of the LoanDynamics Model (LDM) from Andrew Davidson & Co. (AD&Co) into their mortgage servicing rights (MSR) valuation software. LDM is a well-respected prepayment model for residential mortgages that will complement MCT’s proprietary prepayment model in MSRlive! This integration allows MSR portfolio managers to leverage and compare both models, increasing confidence in the precision of their valuations and scenario testing.

MCT - Mortgage Capital Trading
Image caption: MCT – Mortgage Capital Trading.

“MCT’s MSRlive! platform is one of the most extensively adopted and customizable MSR valuation models in the industry,” said Bill Shirreffs, Senior Director, Head of MSR Services and Sales Operations at MCT. “We’re proud to work with AD&Co to add their internationally recognized LDM prepayment model alongside the customization and flexibility clients appreciate about our proprietary model.”

Because the MSR may be sold or retained independently of residential mortgage loans, MSR valuation and portfolio management is a critical function for U.S. mortgage lenders. Central to the value of any MSR is a forecast of its prepayment speed, which is dependent on a wide array of assumptions and heavily influenced by macroeconomic developments. MCT and AD&Co are both highly regarded providers of this prepayment modeling, and through their new alliance, they combine the best of both models for the benefit of capital markets professionals.

“AD&Co’s flagship LoanDynamics Model is a perfect complement to MCT’s MSRlive!,” said Michelle Stepien Breier, Business Development Manager at AD&Co. “AD&Co’s industry leading prepayment and credit models, coupled with MCT’s MSRlive!, provide a best-of-breed joint solution to MSR portfolio managers.”

The integration allows MSRlive! users who have an existing license or plan to license AD&Co’s LDM the opportunity to apply greater fine-tuning parameters to prepayment forecasting in accordance with the needs of the individual user and their portfolio.

MSR portfolio managers interested in a consultation on their valuation and retention strategy are encouraged to schedule a meeting with MCT and AD&Co for the upcoming MBA Annual Convention here: https://mct-trading.com/contact/

MCT Reports 3% Increase in Mortgage Lock Volume, Refinance Activity Buoys Market

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Oct. 3, 2024 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Mortgage Capital Trading, Inc. (MCT®), the de facto leader in innovative mortgage capital markets technology, announced today a 3.17% increase in mortgage lock volume compared to the previous month. The report highlights key market dynamics, offering industry professionals valuable insights. Industry professionals and enthusiasts are invited to download the complete report for comprehensive insights into the market dynamics.

MCT Reports 3% Increase in Mortgage Lock Volume, Refinance Activity Buoys Market
Image caption: MCT Reports 3% Increase in Mortgage Lock Volume, Refinance Activity Buoys Market.

August and September have seen a continued slowdown in purchase lock volume, as is typical following the summer buying season. However, refinance activity has shown a steady increase, strong enough to offset the usual decline in overall lock volume from August to September. This increase in refinance activity has contributed to maintaining total lock volume production.

“This data signals a potential shift in strategy for loan officers, who are increasingly targeting borrowers looking to refinance after securing mortgages at higher peak rates,” said Andrew Rhodes, Senior Director and Head of Trading at MCT. “However, for a more significant rise in refinance activity, mortgage rates will need to drop much further. Currently, many borrowers remain locked into historically low rates, making the potential for increased refinance volume contingent on further rate reductions outside of market expectations.”

Rhodes also pointed to the significance of upcoming economic indicators. “With the expected Fed rate cuts already factored in, the market is now turning its attention to Friday’s Nonfarm Payroll report and the next Consumer Price Index release for signs of where rates are headed,” he added.

As the industry navigates these evolving market conditions, MCT continues to provide critical insights and cutting-edge solutions for mortgage professionals.

For further insights into the current mortgage market and the latest trends in lock volume, MCT invites industry professionals to download the full report.

MCT Reports a 3% Increase in Mortgage Lock Volume Backed by Increasing Refinance Activity

SAN DIEGO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Mortgage Capital Trading, Inc. (MCT®), the de facto leader in innovative mortgage capital markets technology, announced today a 3.33% increase in mortgage lock volume compared to the previous month. Despite a larger increase in rate/term volume, total mortgage volume remains relatively flat.

A recent quarter-point drop in conventional 30-year and government 30-year mortgage rates has triggered an increase of 103.19% in refinance activity compared to the previous month. This surge has helped stabilize overall production levels as total volume remains low, especially when compared to 2020 and 2021. Notably, the year-over-year comparison shows a moderate increase of about 21% in total volume, also driven by a dramatic rise in refinances over the previous year.

Industry experts suggest that many lenders may be pricing in the potential rate cuts expected during the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting.

Andrew Rhodes, Senior Director and Head of Trading at MCT, offered insights into the current market landscape: "We could see additional short-term market volatility as the Fed considers a 25 or 50 basis point rate cut. Friday's Nonfarm Payroll Report will provide further clarity on that decision."

Industry professionals and market enthusiasts are encouraged to download the full report from MCT for a comprehensive analysis of these market dynamics.

MCT's Lock Volume Indices present a snapshot of rate lock volume activity in the residential mortgage industry broken out by lock type (purchase, rate/term refinance, and cash out refinance) across a broad diversity of lenders (e.g., sizes, products/services offered, business models) from MCT's national footprint.

Magnifi Group Teams up with Kalon Staffing to Launch IEP Physician Search – Specifically Targeting Fellows

SAN DIEGO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Magnifi Group, Inc. and Kalon Staffing, LLC, today announced the launch of IEP Physician Search - iep-search.com - a Fellows search service to place Orthopaedic, Pain Management and Electrophysiology (EP) Fellows in US Medical Centers.

Magnifi Group is uniquely positioned to ensure IEP Physician Search's success due to the didactic courses it holds for Fellows in numerous Orthopaedic specialties, Pain Management and Electrophysiology.

Teaming up with Kalon will further accelerate the accomplishments of IEP Physician Search due to the company's extensive experience placing proven specialists into highly skilled positions.

Andrew Wolpe, president and COO of Magnifi Group said demand from Medical Practices for Fellows entering their respective fields is significantly high due to the relatively small number that are available each year. "We're looking at an average of only 100 Fellows per specialty, per year," said Wolpe. "Since we meet them at our IEP Courses, it's a natural next step to assist these Fellows in their career placement," Wolpe said.

Liesl Bernard, CEO of Kalon Staffing, said her team assesses the criteria for all Fellows has when placing them. "For some, it's geography, for others it's the size of practice and of course it comes down to chemistry," Bernard said. Bernard added that she and her team play a critical role in working with both the medical centers and the Fellows to ensure the perfect match.

Magnifi Group, Inc. is a developer of an FDA-compliant eLearning platform for the medical device and biologics industries. The company also hosts the Spine IEP Live Fellows Course; the Lower Extremity IEP Live Fellows Course; the Hip and Knee IEP Live Fellows Course; the Electrophysiology IEP Live Fellows Course and the Pain Management IEP Live Fellows Course.

Kalon Staffing, LLC. is an executive search firm focused on making precision placements in specialized health and medical fields.

Patented Technology Allows Mortgage Buyers to Transact with Any Seller on MCT Marketplace

SAN DIEGO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Mortgage Capital Trading, Inc. (MCT®), the de facto leader in innovative mortgage capital markets technology, today announced that the company has been awarded a patent for the security spread commitment used in the industry's largest mortgage asset exchange: MCT Marketplace. The security spread commitment transforms loan auctions, turning shadow bids into executable prices. Loan buyers and sellers use the security spread commitment to transact before counterparty approval, vastly increasing liquidity while giving sellers confidence in the price execution of new buyers.

"For decades industry players have imagined a time when buying a loan would be as easy as buying an item on eBay," said Phil Rasori, MCT COO and architect of the security spread commitment. "Arduous counterparty approval processes always blocked the way - but no longer. By committing to a price spread against the underlying security, buyers and sellers can confidently transact before undertaking mutual approvals. We're tremendously proud this innovation has been recognized by the U.S. Patent Office."

Through security spread commitments, any interested buyer on MCT Marketplace can make an executable bid on any mortgage loan up for auction. In the case of a buyer winning an auction from a new counterparty, the price is converted to a security spread against a mutually agreed security price. The price of this security continues to move with the market while mutual approvals are completed, routinely expediting the process from months to an average of five days. Following approval, the security spread is converted back to a fixed price and the transaction is completed. Through tools like the security spread commitment and MCT's AutoBid bid tape pricer, investors are efficiently bidding more loan collateral than ever before, and sellers are finding best execution and liquidity that would otherwise be missed.

"Gone are the days of a finite set of approved investors, not knowing who has an axe and incomplete information on who may offer the best price," said Curtis Richins, president and CEO at MCT. "MCT Marketplace is the only loan exchange where sellers can receive executable bids from unapproved buyers. Through our patented security spread commitment, MCT firmly holds its position as the gold standard in best execution and moves one step closer to the ultimate goal - when every loan can be priced by every investor."

Use cases for this groundbreaking methodology extend beyond standard whole loan trades. Security spread commitments can also be leveraged to facilitate transactions on open loans that are still being hedged in a lender's pipeline. Buyers with specific collateral targets to fulfill, such as CRA, AMI, and other specified pool obligations, can make early offers on loans in a lender's pipeline via security spread commitments.

MCT Reports a 6% Mortgage Lock Volume Decrease in Latest Report

SAN DIEGO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Mortgage Capital Trading, Inc. (MCT®), the de facto leader in innovative mortgage capital markets technology, announced today a decrease of 5.67% in mortgage lock volume compared to the previous month. Industry professionals and enthusiasts are invited to download the complete report for comprehensive insights into the market dynamics.

Mortgage lock volume over the past eight weeks has continued to trend downward. This trend is consistent with a decrease in supply as we progress through the summer.

Looking ahead, the trend is expected to continue into the next month. Even as rates gradually decrease, many potential buyers may be holding off in anticipation of potentially better rates later in the year.

Additionally, a potential September rate cut has already been priced into the market, suggesting that if the Federal Reserve does cut rates in their September meeting, it may have little effect on mortgage rates.

Andrew Rhodes, Senior Director, Head of Trading at MCT, states, "Today's Nonfarm payroll report came in below expectations along with a higher than expected unemployment rate. If this trend continues, it is looking very likely the Federal Reserve will cut rates in their September meetings."

MCT Integrates with Fannie Mae’s Mission Score API and New Product Grids to Empower Originators to Take Advantage of Market Incentives for Mission-oriented Lending

SAN DIEGO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Mortgage Capital Trading, Inc. (MCT®), the de facto leader in innovative mortgage capital markets technology, announced the launch of new integrations with Fannie Mae's Mission Score application programming interface (API) and Mission Score 2 and 3 product grids that provide better transparency and pricing for mortgages aligned with Fannie Mae's mission objectives.

The Mission Score API and product grids provide a loan-level Mission Score and associated pricing to mortgage originators, who may improve margins or pass through better borrower pricing using MCT technology. MCT, the first to integrate with the API, has a long history of empowering mortgage market participants to optimize their business, and these latest integrations increase the granularity of pricing that Fannie Mae provides sellers on MCT Marketplace - the largest mortgage asset exchange for the U.S. secondary market.

"Fannie Mae changed the market back in 2016 by bringing spec programs to the cash window, putting lenders in a position where they could take the pay-ups and push them through as more competitive pricing for the borrower," said Phil Rasori, COO of MCT. "Now, Fannie Mae has done it again by pushing forward the Mission Score pay-ups available on the securitization side toward front-end borrower pricing."

For mutual clients, pricing from the new API and product grids are integrated seamlessly into the best execution analysis, commitment, and delivery processes in MCT Marketplace. Lenders using the new MCT Base Rate Generator can leverage the Mission Score products to directly inform and generate their front-end borrower pricing.

"The Mission Score API and Mission Score product girds are Fannie Mae's latest solutions intended to support affordable homeownership opportunities and promote mission-based financing to qualified borrowers," said Pete Skarnulis, Single-Family Business Account Management Solutions - Vice President at Fannie Mae. "Through close partnership and collaboration with our industry partners, we're able to introduce innovative solutions to the market at scale, helping to promote positive change across the mortgage industry."

Lenders are encouraged to register for the upcoming industry webinar hosted by MCT, and featuring Fannie Mae, to learn more about the features and benefits of the Mission Score API and product grids for mortgage originators and their borrowers. MCT Reports A 7% Mortgage Lock Volume Increase In Latest Indices Report

SAN DIEGO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Mortgage Capital Trading, Inc. (MCT®), the de facto leader in innovative mortgage capital markets technology, announced today an increase of 6.78% in mortgage lock volume compared to the previous month. To gain comprehensive insights into the market dynamics, industry professionals and enthusiasts are invited to download the complete report.

As mortgage lock volume edges upward during the buying season, the mortgage industry continues to monitor economic indicators that will factor into the Federal Reserve's decision on how long to hold rates.

Early May economic indicators present a mixed bag, which could give the Federal Reserve reason to hold rates longer. While April's Consumer Price Index (CPI) aligned with predictions, the May Nonfarm Payroll report far exceeded forecasts with an additional 272,000 jobs.

The combination of the May Nonfarm Payroll and upcoming CPI report could suggest that the Federal Reserve will hold rates longer as they seek more consistent economic indicators pointing toward their goal of two percent inflation.

Andrew Rhodes, Senior Director and Head of Trading at MCT, stated, "The next couple of months will be key from a data standpoint as the Federal Reserve looks for a trend of inflation heading towards the goal of two percent. Considering the Nonfarm Payroll number that just came out, setting a trend is going to take more time. We're looking ahead to the May CPI print to see how the Fed is going to interpret both data points. Even with CPI coming in around expectation, the jobs number could likely push the FED to further delay their rate cuts."

To access the comprehensive insights provided by MCT's Lock Volume Indices, interested parties are encouraged to download the full report: https://mct-trading.com/press-release/mct-reports-a-7-percent-lock-volume-increase-in-latest-indices-report/.

Foundation for a Drug-Free World Reaches Out at the 79th Annual National PAL Training Conference to Empower Youth With Effective Drug Education

SAN DIEGO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports drug overdoses are killing young Americans in unprecedented numbers. To help turn the tide on this epidemic, Foundation for a Drug-Free World reached out to those attending the annual National Police Athletic and Activities League (PAL) Training Conference at the Wyndham San Diego Bayside Hotel May 7 - May 10. Drug-Free World volunteers and staff introduced those attending the conference to their acclaimed Truth About Drugs drug education and prevention initiative, which they provide free of charge to anyone wishing to help kids on this urgent subject.

National PAL's mission and activities are based on the conviction that young people, reached early enough, are more likely to become productive adults and agents of positive change.

The Truth About Drugs youth-friendly booklets and videos help accomplish this purpose. They get through to young people, keeping them interested and engaged. The Truth About Drugs documentary drives home the message, as former addicts share harrowing stories of how they were trapped in the dwindling spiral of addiction.

"Truth About Drugs materials can also contribute to PAL's mission to provide youth with leadership opportunities to help others," said Foundation for a Drug-Free World Executive Director Jessica Hochman. "Our program not only helps young people make the firm decision not to experiment with drugs, it also helps them take responsibility for their peers, their siblings - even their parents - and gives them the confidence that they can set an example for others. With your commitment to helping youth and our drug-prevention campaign and free online courses, we can truly save lives."

The Truth About Drugs program is the largest and most comprehensive nongovernmental drug education and prevention program of its kind. It is spearheaded and coordinated by the Foundation for a Drug-Free World, a secular nonprofit public benefit corporation that empowers youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free. The program is used by teachers, school counselors, drug education specialists and law enforcement officers around the world. Its drug-free message reaches millions of people each year.

Inspired by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard, who found drugs to be "the single most destructive element present in our current culture," Scientology Churches and Scientologists support Foundation for a Drug-Free World, making it possible to provide its materials free of charge to schools, civic groups, governments, law enforcement, and individuals and institutions in the private sector.
