New book, ‘Who Gets Your Passwords?,’ helps families prepare for managing digital assets after death

Most older adults have planned their estates. Few have planned their digital estates.

ASHEVILLE, N.C., July 14, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Millions of Americans have prepared wills, named beneficiaries, and organized their financial records, but many have overlooked a critical question: What happens to their email accounts, online banking, digital photos, passwords, and other digital assets when they die? TheSeniorTechie founder Paul Wilczynski addresses that growing problem in his new book, “Who Gets Your Passwords? TheSeniorTechie Guide To Digital Estate Planning” (ISBN:‎ 979-8995501725), now available on Amazon.

As more of daily life moves online, family members are increasingly finding themselves unable to access important accounts, documents, photographs, and records after the death of a loved one.

“Many people have spent years preparing traditional estate documents,” said Wilczynski. “But they haven’t prepared their digital estate. Families often discover too late that they don’t know where important information is stored, what accounts exist, or how to access them.”

A digital estate includes far more than social media accounts. It can include email, online banking, cloud storage, digital photographs, smartphones, subscription services, shopping accounts, websites, loyalty programs, and other online assets accumulated over a lifetime.

The book is intended not only for individuals and families but also as a practical resource that can support conversations between clients and the professionals who help them prepare wills, trusts, and estate plans. Wilczynski believes digital estate planning should become a routine part of the broader estate planning process.

Written specifically for non-technical readers, the guide focuses on simple, practical steps for identifying digital assets, organizing account information, protecting privacy, preserving family memories, and creating clear instructions for loved ones.

“We spend a lifetime creating digital assets without thinking of them as assets,” said Wilczynski. “Taking a little time to organize that information today can save loved ones a great deal of frustration tomorrow.”

The issue affects people of all ages but may be particularly important for older adults who have accumulated decades of records, photographs, correspondence, and online accounts.

“At its heart, digital estate planning isn’t really about passwords,” Wilczynski said. “It’s about making life easier for the people you care about.”

“Who Gets Your Passwords? TheSeniorTechie Guide To Digital Estate Planning” is available in paperback and ebook formats through Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0H7N336SQ.

New Workshop Kits Let Any Organization Teach Seniors Without Hiring an Expert

Ready-to-teach curricula from TheSeniorTechie cover scams, AI, streaming TV, gardening, and more

ASHEVILLE, N.C., June 26, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — TheSeniorTechie today announced a series of ready-to-teach curriculum kits designed for organizations serving adults 55 and older. Each kit gives a staff member or volunteer everything needed to lead a polished, engaging workshop on topics older adults care about, with no subject-matter expertise required and no preparation beyond reading the materials.

TheSeniorTechie Workshops
Image caption: Ready-to-teach curricula from TheSeniorTechie cover scams, AI, streaming TV, gardening, and more.

“Program directors know their communities,” said Paul Wilczynski, founder of TheSeniorTechie. “They know what people are curious about and worried about. What they don’t always have is the time to turn that into a full workshop. I wanted to give them tools that respect both their time and their participants.”

Wilczynski speaks from experience on both sides of that problem. At 77, he is a retired software developer, publisher of the TheSeniorTechie newsletter, and founder of TheSeniorTechie Press. His newsletter, which covers the issues shaping life after 55, now reaches more than 2,200 subscribers. TheSeniorTechie Press has published the “TheSeniorTechie Guide To AI for Seniors,” with a second title, “Who Gets Your Passwords? TheSeniorTechie Guide To Digital Estate Planning,” arriving in July 2026.

WHERE TO GET THEM

Workshop kits are available now at https://workshops.TheSeniorTechie.com. A free complete sample kit is available for download with no purchase required.

WHAT COMES IN EVERY KIT

Each kit includes a complete slide deck, a detailed teaching guide with word-for-word suggested language, student handouts, a glossary, a satisfaction survey, and a pre-class checklist. The teaching guide is written for someone who may have no classroom experience and no background in the topic. The instructor is never left without something to say.

The kits are built around two-hour sessions and are designed so that discussions, participant questions, and natural pauses fill the time without the instructor having to improvise.

CURRENT WORKSHOPS AVAILABLE

Senior Scams covers the fraud patterns most likely to target older adults, warning signs participants can learn to recognize, and practical steps to take if someone they know has already been targeted. The goal is to help participants feel more alert and less anxious by giving them language they can actually use.

AI For Seniors places artificial intelligence in everyday context rather than getting lost in technical explanations. The workshop covers where AI already shows up in daily life, what it can and cannot do, how to benefit from using the most popular AI tools, and how participants can think about its benefits and risks without feeling pressured to adopt anything new.

Cut the Cord helps participants understand the changing landscape of television. It explains what streaming services actually are, how they compare to traditional cable, and what trade-offs exist for different viewing habits and budgets. No product is pushed. The emphasis is on making an informed choice.

I Killed a Cactus: A Beginner’s Guide to Gardening uses beginner gardening as a welcoming entry point for participants who describe themselves as having no green thumb. The focus is on simple, achievable approaches that build confidence and encourage conversation among people trying something new.

TRY IT FREE BEFORE YOU BUY

Organizations that want to see exactly what they are purchasing before committing can download the Western North Carolina Native Plants kit at no cost. It is a complete two-session workshop, not a preview, and it shows coordinators precisely how the materials are structured, how much preparation time is realistically needed, and what participants will see and take home.

Kits are priced by the number of sessions: one-session kits are $49, two-session kits are $79, and three-session kits are $109. Each purchase covers unlimited use within the purchasing organization, with no per-class fees or annual renewals. New workshops are added regularly. Organizations with specific programming needs are encouraged to reach out directly at Paul@TheSeniorTechie.com. Wilczynski notes that kits can be developed in as little as two weeks.

ABOUT THESENIORTECHIE

TheSeniorTechie serves any organization that runs programming for adults 55 and older. Senior centers, libraries, OLLIs, churches, Area Agencies on Aging, continuing care retirement communities, and YMCAs are among the organizations that will find these kits useful, but any group that brings older adults together around shared learning is a good fit.

TheSeniorTechie is a publishing initiative dedicated to helping adults 55 and older make sense of the issues that shape their lives. Founded by retired software developer and author Paul Wilczynski, TheSeniorTechie publishes a newsletter at https://www.TheSeniorTechie.com, curriculum kits for organizations at https://workshops.TheSeniorTechie.com, and books for older adults through TheSeniorTechie Press, available on Amazon. A new children’s book – ‘Gnu Gnu and Punda’s Great Adventure’ – celebrates friendship, teamwork and the African savanna’s wonders

ASHEVILLE, N.C., Nov. 14, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Picture this: endless golden grass, a scorching dry season and a journey from Tanzania to Kenya in search of life-giving water. Image caption: “Gnu Gnu and Punda’s Great Adventure,” written by Liisa Andreassen and illustrated by Frederic Gingillino.

When the dry season hits the savanna and water becomes scarce, Gnu Gnu, Punda and their friends, set out on a courageous expedition across Tanzania and Kenya. Along the way, they meet giraffes who offer perspective, elephants who share wisdom, and a cast of animal friends who remind them that even the greatest journey is easier when you’re not alone.

At its heart, “Gnu Gnu and Punda’s Great Adventure” is more than an animal journey — it’s a story about collaboration, celebrating differences and the power of friendship. This beautifully illustrated tale is ideal for children ages 4–8 (and any child at heart), instilling values of empathy, resilience and community.

“I hope this story inspires children to see how their unique gifts can connect to others in surprising, wonderful ways,” Andreassen says.

At the end of the book, a helpful glossary enhances the reader’s experience and there are also pages for kids to color their own pages and create a story of their own.

This book is suitable for children, schools, libraries and family reading time. Purchase your copy or schedule a school reading today!

Wrap the Woods Pop-up Art Installation to Save One of Asheville’s Last Remaining Urban Forests

ASHEVILLE, N.C., Aug. 11, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Save the Woods organization in Asheville, NC, invites volunteers, community members, and activists to an art action: Wrap the Woods on Saturday, September 6, starting at 9:30 a.m. UNC Asheville’s 54-acre urban forest and cherished community resource and wildlife habitat (aka “The Woods”) is under threat of development despite its status as one of the last remaining urban forests in Asheville.

A map of one of Asheville's last urban forest - 54 acres that includes a great horned owl habitat.
Image caption: A map of one of Asheville’s last urban forest – 54 acres that includes a great horned owl habitat.

Today, as part of a multi-phase plan, UNCA proposes leasing the urban forest property to a developer who will erect a 5,000-seat stadium along with retail shops and market-rate housing. Community members are speaking out against this plan, including university staff, faculty, and students; members of the adjacent neighborhoods, which will be directly impacted by the development; and more than 15,000 petition signers.

However, after months of community action to preserve this forest, the university’s administration and the UNC Board of Governors refuse to change course. The Wrap the Woods event is intended to draw attention to the sheer size of the threatened acreage containing around 20,000 trees.

This art action was inspired indirectly by artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude, who were known for their large-scale, site-specific environmental installations. It is directly inspired by local Asheville resident Peggy Gardner who, in 1980, borrowed from the awe-inducing spectacle of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s wrap installations to save a then-threatened downtown Asheville.

At the time, city leaders and business-owners were pushing to demolish 11 city acres of the quiet, fairly empty downtown to make room for a complex containing a shopping mall and hotel. Gardner and other organizers envisioned an educational art installation, wrapping the blocks and buildings facing demolition to provide a visual of what would be lost.

Two hundred people volunteered to help save downtown, and today Asheville is a thriving city with a bustling tourism industry set against the charming backdrop of beautifully preserved Art Deco architecture.

Now, it is Asheville’s last-remaining forested acreage that needs protection. The Urban Forest is an important wildlife corridor, home to a wide variety of plant, animal, and bird life. It’s also an outdoor classroom for at least 18 UNCA course offerings in the natural sciences alone and provides recreation and relaxation within city limits for university staff, students and the surrounding community.

And less than a year since Hurricane Helene ravaged Western North Carolina, the community is still hard at work rebuilding from the losses wrought by the storm, including 40% of its tree canopy. To raze 54 acres of forest is to demolish even more of that damaged canopy along with an important stormwater mitigation system and carbon sink.

To draw attention to this cause, the community will stand side-by-side on September 6, holding up sheets to form a human chain “wrapping” the Urban Forest in fabric, demonstrating the impact of this devastation and to show objectively what is at stake for our community and our planet, and to preserve this precious natural resource.

Echoes of the Forest to Host Unveiling Event for First ‘Echo’ in Asheville’s River Arts District

ASHEVILLE, N.C., May 12, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Echoes of the Forest, an Asheville-based 501(c)(3), is thrilled to announce the unveiling of its very first Echo. This is a significant milestone in the organization’s mission to promote community revitalization, environmental restoration, and economic rejuvenation through art. The event will take place at Foundation Woodworks in Asheville’s River Arts District on Thursday, June 12 at 5 p.m. (details below).

The Mountain Man, a Hurricane Helene salvaged walnut tree. Proceeds benefit Echoes of the Forest
Image caption: The Mountain Man, a Hurricane Helene salvaged walnut tree. Proceeds benefit Echoes of the Forest and the winner will be announced on June 12.

Echoes of the Forest was founded to honor the trees lost in our region by transforming them into meaningful works of art. Through the hands of local artists, these salvaged remnants become powerful symbols of renewal—supporting the creative economy and showcasing the resilience of our artistic community. By placing these “Echoes” in areas impacted by natural disasters, the initiative promotes restoration, inspires environmental awareness, and strengthens community connection.

The Echo project represents a powerful blend of art, nature, and resilience, designed to honor the recovery of one of western North Carolina’s hardest-hit regions after Hurricane Helene. This first Echo is a symbol of transformation both for the land and the people who call it home. Created by Chester Shuey of Appalachian Joinery, this masterfully crafted piece is made from an 800-pound piece of Hurricane Helene salvaged white oak. It’s sure to evoke reflection and encourage hope and healing.

“When Liisa first asked me about getting involved with Echoes of the Forest, I knew immediately that this was a special project and one that I couldn’t wait to get on board with. Within a few days, I got my salvaged white oak wood and was ready to get started on my bench. Right away, I knew what I wanted to design. It’s such an honor to be included in a mission that would involve my fellow woodworking community; it just felt like the right thing to do because these trees mean so much and so does our artist revitalization,” said Shuey.

This first Echo is a true testament to the mission of this organization.

“We’re excited to unveil it in the River Arts District at Foundation Woodworks. This area was one of the hardest hit regions post-Hurricane Helene,” said Liisa Andreassen, founder of Echoes of the Forest. “We aim to inspire connection, celebrate community strength with economic revitalization, and highlight the beauty of our natural surroundings.”

EVENT DETAILS:

  • What: Unveiling of the first Echo by Echoes of the Forest
  • When: June 12, 2025; 5 p.m.
  • Where: Foundation Woodworks, 289 Lyman Street (formerly the PLEB) in the River Arts District (RAD).
  • Who Should Attend: Media representatives, residents of western NC, nature enthusiasts, and art lovers

The event will also include an opportunity to win a one-of-a-kind Echoes of the Forest masterpiece crafted by Mike Ayers, an internationally acclaimed chainsaw artist.

Raffle tickets can be purchased here: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/echoes-of-the-forest-hurricane-helene-art-raffle.

The raffle piece is crafted from a salvaged walnut tree that was the victim of Helene and depicts a mountain man with leaves swirling about his head with a tear coming down his cheek. Raffle tickets will be available for last-minute purchases and the drawing will take place at an after-party and “Meet the Woodworkers” mingle at the nearby Radical Hotel’s Roof Top Cocktail Bar at 95 Roberts Street.

Attendees will learn about future planned Echo installations in the region and will have the exclusive opportunity to be part of discussions surrounding community resilience and ecological restoration.

Cooking with Bears? Cottage Cooking in Asheville Does It

ASHEVILLE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- While it may not happen all the time, there have been several instances when Cottage Cooking, a cooking class business in Asheville, North Carolina, has guests who are treated to a real show. Most recently, a family of four bears - a mama and her three teenagers - decided to take a long family nap in the business' backyard.

"We like to joke that we have some of the best trash on the street," John Godts, co-owner, Cottage Cooking, says. "Our 'Elegant Evening Out' class is one of the bears' favorite times to visit as salmon is the main course."

Cottage Cooking has been in business for more than nine years and it enjoys a variety of guests - both tourists and locals alike. The business offers about 20 different menus from which to choose and many are "bear-friendly."

Liisa Andreassen, Cottage Cooking's other owner, says the bears also like to sniff around after the New Orleans' jambalaya class.

"Apparently, those shrimp shells are quite irresistible," she says.

The couple has managed to bearproof their cans and it works - for the most part. Occasionally, the bears do manage to team up and get their paws on something tasty. And after a nibble, they like to take a little nap.

"Our guests love the unusual dimension that our Asheville bears bring to the class cooking class activities - as long as they eat inside," she laughs. "The guests that is!"

Watch a video here that showcases the Cottage Cooking property and the interesting spots where the bears can let it all hang loose: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8mm0l-RLD4&t=29s

About Cottage Cooking:

Cottage Cooking can host up to six in their cottage-style home in North Asheville and they will also go off site to people's homes and Airbnb's for larger groups of up to 12, so people can host their own cooking class.

"It's a fun alternative to a dinner party," Andreassen adds.

Cooking classes are designed for the home cook and a typical class includes an appetizer, main course and dessert. There's also a weekend morning baking class once to twice a month. These classes make for a great date night or ladies' night out.

The company has built a reputation in the business for hosting fun bachelorette parties and family reunions. In addition to a schedule which can be found on their website, they'll also design custom dates and menus as requested.

Classes range from $85 to $125 and private classes for two are $300. All classes are BYOB. Gift certificates are also available.

Cottage Cooking Asheville Adds New Classes from the Big Easy

ASHEVILLE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- Cottage Cooking continues to expand its class repertoire. A recent trip to the great city of New Orleans inspired the owners to add Cajun and Creole classes to their current schedule. While visiting what many refer to as the "Big Easy," Cottage Cooking owners, Liisa Andreassen and John Godts, took a class on local fare to hone their culinary skills; they're happy they did.

"Our instructor, a Le Cordon Blue culinary graduate, explained that the class would be more like a chemistry class than a cooking class - and she wasn't kidding," Liisa says. "She encouraged us to focus on chemical reactions and interactions and to use all of our senses. It was a wonderful experience and one we wanted to modify to fit our style and bring back to our hometown of Asheville, NC."

Cottage Cooking now offers two new classes:

Creole Cooking; and the New Orleans Classic. In Creole Cooking, guests will learn how to make a delicious shrimp, chicken and sausage jambalaya. The New Orleans Classic (Cajun) features shrimp etouffee. Both cooking classes start with light and airy hushpuppies and end with Bananas Foster for dessert.

"Many folks that we teach don't realize the main difference between creole and Cajun," John says. "Want to know? The easiest way to explain it is that Cajun cooking typically does not use tomatoes or any tomato-based sauces while creole cooking does."

Guests who participate in these cooking classes will even get some Mardi Gras beads of their own to take home. So, let the good times roll or as they say in Louisiana, "Laissez les bons temps rouler."

About Cottage Cooking:

Cottage Cooking classes are designed for the home cook and a typical class is designed like a dinner party where guests prepare and eat an appetizer, main course and dessert. There's also a Saturday morning baking class once to twice a month.

These cooking classes make for a great date night or ladies' night out. The company also goes offsite so folks can host their own cooking class in the comfort of their home. Bachelorette parties, family reunions and corporate retreats are popular too. In addition to the cooking class schedule which can be found on their website, they'll also design custom dates and menus as requested for private classes - on or offsite.

The Cajun and Creole classes are $89 per person. Guests are invited to BYOB. Gift certificates are also available.

Cottage Cooking helps people to host their own cooking classes at home

ASHEVILLE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- Taking cooking classes is a fun way to learn new culinary skills and expand a menu repertoire. It's also fun for people to host their own. But how? Cottage Cooking in Asheville, North Carolina helps people make it happen. Most of Cottage Cooking's classes are held in their home, but more and more people are looking to stay in their homes or vacation rentals and host their own.

As a result, Cottage Cooking goes off site for groups ranging from six to 12. They bring all the ingredients, aprons and recipes and the hosts simply provide the space and items like glasses, plateware, silverware and pots and pans.

"So, forget get that canape cocktail party, and do something a little different next time you want to get together with friends and family," Liisa Andreassen, co-founder, Cottage Cooking, says.

Recent off-site classes have ranged from bachelorette parties to family reunions and a girl's weekend getaway.

Reasons for hosting a class in the privacy of one's home or at a vacation rental are many. For example, people don't have to drive, find babysitters, shop or plan anything. They just sit back and Cottage Cooking will execute it all. Those who want to participate can, and those who just want to kick back and sip are welcome to do that too.

People who choose to host a cooking class of their own, just have to contact Cottage Cooking, let them know what type of menu they're looking for and get their date on the calendar.

"Folks really like this option - it gives them a chance to create a custom cooking experience where guests will learn a little, laugh a lot and remember the party for a long time to come," Andreassen shares. "And we clean up too!"

Asheville Couple Cooks to Travel and Guests Are Signing Up

ASHEVILLE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- Founded in March 2015 by Liisa Andreassen and John Godts, Cottage Cooking in Asheville, North Carolina, was first started to fund the couple's passion for travel. Over the years, it's evolved into a business where others can share their travel and culinary experiences too. To date, together, they've traveled to 11 countries, four continents and 36 states. They always bring back some new culinary knowledge and are eager to showcase it.

"The business kind of started as a lark," Liisa Andreassen, the business's co-owner, says. "We had some friends over and taught them how to make sushi. One of our friends - said, 'you should do this!' Do what we asked? Make sushi? 'No, give cooking classes in your house.'"

That's all this dynamic couple needed to hear. They were off and running. John Godts, a hospital physical therapist by day, quickly sprang into action and started posting fliers at his workplace. Andreassen, a freelance copywriter, tapped into her marketing and PR skills to help spread the word.

"It's been such a fantastic experience," Godts says. "It's a win-win. We get to do something we love - cooking and entertaining - and we get paid for it to boot. Wow! That's pretty awesome."

And, of course their guests benefit too. Most people who sign up for classes have looked at the couple's website, which has been recently re-designed to take online bookings and payments, and find that this is not your average cooking class. Photos and videos help to illustrate the experience so guests can really get a feel for the place before clicking that "book" button.

"Most folks who sign up for a cooking class with us are looking for something different," Andreassen says. "They don't want a traditional cooking class with 15+ people. They want something intimate and a maybe even a little unfamiliar."

Cottage Cooking classes host up to six in their cottage-style home in North Asheville. They'll also go off site to people's homes and Air B and Bs for larger groups of up to 12. And, the couple really works to keep things fresh.

"We've added a few new classes to the schedule including a Moroccan cooking class as well as football foods and Hawaiian BBQ," Godts says. "We're constantly working to create new and fun culinary experiences for our guests."

A recent guest, Stu Helm, also known as "The Food Fan," is an Asheville-based food writer and influential voice in Asheville's food scene.

He recently took a class and shared his experience in a podcast here - https://stuhelmfoodfan.substack.com/p/good-morning-friends-479.

"We love meeting new people and sharing tales of travel, food and adventure," Andreassen says. "So, for anyone looking for a cooking class that's a little outside the box - or pot - come see what we're cooking up."

About Cottage Cooking:

Cottage Cooking classes are designed for the home cook and a typical class is designed like a dinner party where guests prepare and eat an appetizer, main course and dessert. There's also a Saturday morning baking class once a month. These classes make for a great date night or ladies' night out. The company has also built a reputation in the business for hosting fun bachelorette parties and family reunions. In addition to a schedule which can be found on their website, they'll also design custom dates and menus as requested.

Classes range from $85 to $125 and private classes for two are $300. All classes are BYOB. Gift certificates are also available.

A Suspenseful Memoir Inspires Readers to Open Their Minds

ASHEVILLE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- "No Time for Fear," a new e-book by Yvonne Haarsma, is a suspenseful page-turner that reveals how a mother and her two sons escaped an ego-driven husband while on the run across four continents and being pursued by Interpol, Mounted Police and the FBI.

This thrilling memoir starts out by setting the stage for what appeared to be a match made in heaven. However, the author quickly realizes that things are not at all what they seemed. Now, she's got to figure out how to protect herself and her two young sons from a powerful man who is charming, deceitful and filled with a thirst for revenge.

In a marriage that had reached a dead end, she was desperate for solutions. She sought the assistance of a counselor who, unbeknownst to her, showed herself to be a medium to help put things back on track. Soon, Yvonne begins to receive somewhat unbelievable messages, and is not convinced until a person very familiar to her reveals himself - her deceased grandfather, Edward.

Through messages from the other side, Edward shows her how to trade the darkness for the light and works behind the scenes to carefully guide her.

On the run for a year throughout Asia, Europe, North America and South America, Yvonne and her two boys confront extreme challenges and triumphs.

Readers will meet the many people who helped the author and learn how to trust their own inner voices.

One Amazon reviewer wrote, "This book could be a film script; all the elements are there - passion and suspense."

Another Amazon reviewer states, "Truth is definitely stranger than fiction. A truly intriguing tale, not only of survival and justice, but how our spirit guides are always looking out for us and work with us in ways we cannot always imagine or understand. We need more inspiring and eclectic stories like this."

Yvonne's main reason for writing this book is to help others find their strength and to trust what they may not always understand.

In Yvonne's words: "It was those difficult moments in my life and then the realization that our spiritual self helps to make us stronger. I've learned so much from this experience and hope it will inspire others too."

About the Author:

Born in The Netherlands, Yvonne is a shining example of how to deal with extreme adversity. Her travels have brought her to six continents through an incredible series of extraordinary experiences. She's had 30+ years of practice as a karmic astrologer where she's helped hundreds of people discover their true life's path. Many of them have stayed in touch with her, sharing their thanks for her gift of insights.

Her indomitable spirit and unflinching positive outlook are truly a model for others who grapple with the challenges associated with domestic abuse and a male-dominated society.

Yvonne is the mother of two grown sons. She has dual citizenship in the U.S. and Belgium and she and her husband, Elliott, split their time between the two countries.

Yes Legend Jon Anderson’s ‘Olias Of Sunhillow’ 2 Disc Remastered & Expanded Edition Now Available For Pre-order

ASHEVILLE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- Esoteric Recordings is proud to announce the release of a new expanded and remastered 2-disc edition of the classic debut solo album by YES vocalist JON ANDERSON, "Olias of Sunhillow." Released in July 1976, the album was a conceptual work recounting the story of an alien race on a journey to find a new world following volcanic destruction on their home planet.

All music on the album was written and performed by Jon Anderson and the recording took place at Anderson's Buckinghamshire home studio whilst Yes were on hiatus following the tour to promote the album "Relayer." Initially recorded on an 8-track tape machine, the arrangements were then re-recorded on to a 24-track tape machine. The album saw Jon perform the music entirely alone, teaching himself to play keyboards and acknowledging the influence of such legendary musicians as Rick Wakeman, Patrick Moraz and Vangelis on his work.

"Olias of Sunhillow" was released by Atlantic Records in the summer of 1976 in an elaborate gatefold sleeve designed by David Fairbrother-Roe and was a top ten album in the UK.

This Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly remastered from the original album master tapes and fully restores the stunning original artwork; and also features a booklet with a new essay and exclusive interview with Jon Anderson.

Over the ensuing years the excellence of the album has led to many calls for the album to be remixed in a 5.1 Surround Sound format. Alas, despite extensive research, the multi-track masters of the album cannot be found. However, this expanded edition of "Olias of Sunhillow" features a DVD featuring a high resolution 96 kHz / 24-bit re-master of the stereo mix and also includes a high resolution 5.1 Surround Sound up-mix derived from the original stereo master tapes as an additional feature.

"The more I realize that time flies when you're having fun...boy oh boy, the fun I'm having listening to my early solo work....

"OLIAS for me was like going to music school for Three Months solid without breathing...

"Totally captivated by making a true SOLO album...every sound, vocal, instrumental and whatever came from the cosmos is there on the album...a dream made reality...

"I never really listened to it all the way through after it was released, I must have listened to every sound a zillion times while mixing it...

"So, a month ago I listened to the whole album again...and felt such joy and gratefulness to have gone through that experience, and here I am so many years later going through a similar musical journey...

"Time flies by when you're having fun...

"cheers...love and 'light'...." Jon.

Asheville Cooking Classes – A Fun and Educational Alternative to Dining Out

ASHEVILLE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- After being closed for several months, Cottage Cooking Asheville has re-opened, but classes look a little different now. They're even more intimate and guests will enjoy more of a demo versus hands-on experience.

For the Zoom-weary crowd, these classes are a great alternative to learning online. People are craving more in-person experiences and Cottage Cooking satisfies with everything from bread baking and sushi rolling to creme brulee burning and more. They provide a nice way for couples to re-connect, families to spend time together, friends to have a laugh or two, and kids to learn a new recipe or two.

Prior to the pandemic, classes went up to six at the Cottage Cooking location and strangers would often break bread together. Now, classes are limited to four who know each other. And, if there's a couple who wants to book a class, they'll get a private class for the regular price of $75 versus $90.

"For now, we're not putting people together who don't know each other," Liisa Andreassen, co-owner, Cottage Cooking, says. "We want everyone to be safe and comfortable."

Recently, Cottage Cooking has had several requests from honeymooners, couples celebrating anniversaries and girls getting out of town for a weekend escape.

"People want to do 'something,' but are still not ready to commit to eating out. Our classes fit the bill," Andreassen says.

Cottage Cooking will also take the show on the road and go off-site for groups of six to 12. For all classes, everyone is required to wear a face mask and people will eat outside when weather permits.

The Cottage Cooking property includes two lovely decks, a firepit area and vegetable gardens. There's even a wildlife dining area and 'museum' that's free for all to visit.

For a full property tour, watch this fun video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8mm0l-RLD4

Groundbreaking New Book Transforms the Death Process for Terminally Ill, Families

ASHEVILLE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- Individuals who are living with a terminal illness and the people who love them can now deeply transform their shared experience of the dying process, thanks to a new book released today by author Melody LeBaron, "Transforming Death: Creating Sacred Space for the Dying" (ISBN: 978-1733477123).

"Transforming Death: Creating Sacred Space for the Dying," breaks new ground as the only book in its genre which explores how to partner with the environment to support the deep, transformative process of dying. The book is available for purchase on Amazon in Kindle and paperback formats.

"Now is the time to bring death back into its place in the circle of life," she says. "Cultivating a sense of presence through the creation of sacred space helps to shape that experience."

LeBaron wrote "Transforming Death: Creating Sacred Space for the Dying" for each person who will someday die, for those who seek a more conscious death, and for the caregivers of persons living with a terminal diagnosis.

"Each dying person needs a team," she says. "Ideally, there is more than one caregiver, so responsibilities are shared, community is strengthened, and no one gets depleted."

The work is grounded, foremost, in LeBaron's first-hand experience of the death of her mother in 1990, followed by the loss of her younger sister in 1995, and her 17-year-old son, Logan, in 1997. The difficulty and rewards of these challenges served as an initiation into what she now calls "the death mysteries."

"'Transforming Death,' is the book I needed all those years ago," she says. "A book for preparing ourselves and those we love for a natural, conscious process of death and dying."

Much as one might read parenting books before the birth of a new baby, she had hoped to prepare for the arduous journey ahead. However, in the 1990s, there was only one book on death and dying, Elizabeth Kubler-Ross' groundbreaking 1969 work, "On Death and Dying."

"Life will guide you where it wants you to go," she says. "When I face something hard, I try to deliberately work through my denial and prepare for it."

Fortunately, she found a like-minded mentor in the late Sharon Turnball, Tennessee's first female funeral director. Turnball suggested she perform a beautiful ritual - that of preparing her mother's body for burial. That experience and insights would change LeBaron's life and work forever.

"We need to partner with death instead of resisting it," she says.

At this time, the pervasive presence of death seems an indelible part of our world's overculture, LeBaron notes.

Each of us must develop the ability to find meaning and healing in the face of death as a pandemic spreads and 20th century structures crumble. We mark the demise of American culture with the passing of family members, friends, and idols of bygone days.

"There's a collective dying and grieving process as we come to understand what is in the present, versus what once was in the past," she says. "For those who are aware of what's happening in the world today, and struggling to understand and stay uplifted, this book will help them, too."

About the Author

Author Melody LeBaron has been called to midwife the dying for more than 30 years. She works with the dying and their caregivers to create an optimal conscious death experience, catalyze the difficult emotions evoked through grief, and claim the gifts of the grieving process. Melody also facilitates a leadership process for women, and coaches clients through the process of transforming their homes and workspaces, their relationships and their lives. Healthy Homes Expert Rick Bayless Today Offers New ‘Radon Health Risks’ E-Book to Public

ASHEVILLE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- Rick Bayless, owner and founder of A Healthier Home, LLC, today offers a new e-book, "Radon Health Risks: What You Need to Know When Living or Working in the Southern Appalachians."

"Radon Health Risk: What You Need to Know When Living or Working in the Southern Appalachians," is a 27-page e-book chock full of solid information and insights that readers can put to use right now, without any special training or prior knowledge.

"A swath of uranium rich soil runs underneath the entire area," says Bayless. "When radon gasses rise upward through the soil and into area homes, it constitutes a significant health risk."

Radon is currently the second leading cause of cancer in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society and Environmental Protection Agency.

The risk from radon is underscored by the fact that radon is odorless, colorless and tasteless, says Bayless. However, testing is relatively inexpensive.

Readers will quickly learn:

* What radon is, what it does, and how it affects healthiness
* The risk factors for radon in WNC and southern Appalachians
* Signs that a home may have a radon problem
* Costs and decisions associated with radon testing
* What to do if radon is detected in a home
* Expectations for the radon mitigation process
* The dynamics of radon through charts and images
* And more!

"After reading this book, homeowners will be able to assess the likelihood of a radon issue in their home, to perform basic maintenance that protects their family's health, and make decisions about adequate testing and mitigation," says Bayless.

He emphasizes that his approach to environmental home healthiness is practical. Bayless, like his book, balances good old-fashioned common sense with accessible scientific principles.

"We're all in this radon situation together," he says.

About A Healthier Home, LLC:
A Healthier Home, LLC, is western North Carolina's leading environmental home health services provider. Author and founder Rick Bayless is a national award-winning, NEHA-certified environmental home health and safety consultant. "Videos are a fun way to communicate what we're doing at Cottage Cooking," Liisa Andreassen, co-owner Cottage Cooking, says. "Potential clients can really see what we're all about. We've even had guests agree to participate in the videos and they love it. It's fun for everyone."

The original Willys Jeep was created for the military during World War II (WWII) and is a great American success story. The original Willys Jeep was designed in only 18 hours and the prototype arrived only 30 minutes before the government deadline. 660,703 Jeeps were built for World War II. Gen Dwight D. Eisenhower listed the Jeep among the three primary tools that helped win WWII.

Willys was a record breaking independent auto manufacturer and was assembled in 22 countries. Jeep celebrated its 75th Anniversary just last year, with events all around the world.

Will Springer, event producer for the Southeast Willys Jeep Get Together annual auto event, said, "I was delivered from the hospital in a Willys Jeep. Some of us have owned Willys all our lives and others are newbies. All the different stories make it an interesting event, and Willys is a great American story."

Cottage Cooking in Asheville Adds Off-Site Services

ASHEVILLE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- In response to multiple requests, Cottage Cooking, a cooking class business in Asheville, N.C., has decided to add off-site services. In the past, they've given on-site cooking classes in a private home (and still do), but now they're also taking the show on the road.

"Our renovated 1950s-style ranch home in North Asheville is the perfect setting for two to four people, but we've had many requests to go off-site for things like corporate team building activities, bachelorette weekends and family reunions," Liisa Andreassen, co-founder Cottage Cooking, says. "People really like the fact that we come to them because then they can really let their hair down."

To date, Andreassen and her partner and husband, John Godts, have done a few off-site events including a corporate training where the class participants made ravioli and Bolognese sauce and a three-generation family reunion where a grandmother, her two daughters and three grandchildren tried their hands at wonton soup and coconut-baked shrimp.

"It's fun for us too," Godts says. "We get to see some cool houses and it's always fun to work in another kitchen. It shakes things up a little."

While there's a $15 upcharge per person for going off site, people seem to think it's worth it. It saves them travel time and they can play host. In order to book an off-site class, a minimum of four participants is required and it needs to be within an hour drive.

"We've even been asked to give classes at local colleges and assisted living communities," Andreassen says.

For now, they're trying not to exceed 10 people per class so they can maintain the intimate-style of teaching and learning that they've earned a reputation for since being in business.

Godts and Andreassen have both taken classes in larger groups and agree that a smaller venue is the way to go.

"I found those big classes to be intimidating and not a lot of fun," Godts says. "Our goal is to have some laughs, prepare and eat good food and hope people learn something along the way too."

About Cottage Cooking Asheville:

Founded in March 2015 by John Godts and Liisa Andreassen, Cottage Cooking was started to fund the couple's appetite for travel. Cooking classes are designed for the home cook and a typical class is designed like a dinner party where guests prepare and eat an appetizer, main course and dessert.

Cottage Cooking in Asheville NC Gets a New Kitchen

ASHEVILLE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- Cottage Cooking, a cooking class business in Asheville, N.C. where their motto is, "Enter as strangers, but leave as friends," is excited to report that its guests will now be entering into a new kitchen. John Godts and Liisa Andreassen, owners of Cottage Cooking, had no idea that when they started their cooking class business less than two years ago that there would be such a demand for their services.

"We started it on a whim, and it's turned into a very viable second business for both us," Andreassen says. "When we first launched, we thought we'd do two to three classes a month. Now, we have some months where we're doing as many as eight or nine."

As the business has grown, the couple decided that the kitchen needed to also. So, Godts, the owner of the cottage decided to add an addition that is separate from, but adjacent to the original home. While the old kitchen could accommodate up to four, it was tight. The new kitchen is still limited to groups of up to four, but there is much more room to spread out and cook now.

And, the new kitchen still maintains the charm that was associated with the old one. While the old kitchen had a wood burning stove and original hardwood floors dating back to the turn of the century, the new place boasts a barn door, crafted by Godts, a trap door that goes to the garage, a cozy gas stove and interesting artifacts and photos from the couple's many travels.

There's also a new deck that was added on and the couple hope to give grilling lessons this spring and summer.

"This new space has opened up even more opportunity than before," Godts says. "We're looking forward to what the future brings."
