EPIC trends Announce 3rd Annual Bringing Christmas Home campaign to donate creatively decorated Christmas Trees to children and families facing hardship

Designer Decorated Trees will Deck the Halls of CHOC OC, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, OC Speech and Language, the TERi Campus and the homes of families with children in the hospital

CERRITOS, Calif., Nov. 25, 2024 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — This year families with children undergoing treatment at local children’s hospitals can check one thing off their holiday to-do list, getting a Christmas tree, thanks to a local brand representative firm and its clients. EPIC trends and partners launched their 3rd annual holiday campaign, Bringing Christmas Home, by delivering 200 undecorated Christmas trees to its diverse group of clients in design around Southern California. Each designer will create a theme and decorate a tree to compete for top honors in one of nine categories.

Photo caption: Trees decking the halls of Los Angeles Children’s Hospital.

These creatively themed trees will eventually deck the halls of children’s hospitals and other organizations bringing smiles to families in hardship throughout Southern California.

The 200 decorated trees will be collected during the first week of December and lined up in the EPIC warehouse in Cerritos where the team will judge and designate winners in each category.

The trees will be delivered to Children’s Hospital LA December 9th, Children’s Hospital of Orange County December 10th, and OC Speech Language and Learning Center December 12th. On Dec 2, the trees will be delivered to TERi Campus in San Diego.

Children in the hospitals will be able to pick out the tree they like and place it in their rooms. Other trees will deck the hallways and spread cheer in the areas where families gather.

“While most families are looking forward to decorating their homes, those facing illness are missing out,” said Terri Burkhart, Principal, EPIC trends. “We are grateful for the chance to drop off the decorated trees and see so many faces light up from the fun and imaginative designs.”

Each local design firm provides the theme, the ornaments, the lights, and the creativity. Winners and noteworthy designs from years prior included a minions themed tree, a hand-flocked snowscape tree complete with polar bears, a tree turned into a big penguin and a Candyland themed tree with a candy village around the base.

“We are grateful to the design firms who collaborated with us on the opportunity to deliver joy to families enduring hardships during the holidays,” said Sabrina Benavides, A&D Manager, EPIC trends.

Many parents at the recipient organizations will bring a tree home and hopefully be relieved to have one less thing to do during this busy holiday season.

2024 CATEGORIES:

Top Tree, Traditional and Timeless, People’s Choice, Theatrical/thrilling (best use of a movie, song or tv show), Terrific Toyland (best use of toys, activities, games or playfulness), Tasty Treat (Candyland or food inspired), Precious Pets (use of any animal), True Touchdown (sports team Inspired), Totally Out of this Tree (out of the box or wild idea).

Designer John Robert Wiltgen Beats the Odds: ‘The Candy in My Pocket’ – An Inspirational Memoir About Designing Your Best Life

CHICAGO, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- With holiday shopping just around the corner, John Robert Wiltgen's riveting memoir "The Candy in My Pocket" (ISBN: 979-8986007007), is now available for the gift giving season. As a type 1 diabetic for more than 55 years, Wiltgen has been a successful business owner and now author whose memoir describes his journey of finding joy and success amidst a life riddled with obstacles and despair due to insulin-dependent diabetes.

Critics describe "The Candy in My Pocket" as an inspirational but irreverent story about designing your best life despite horrifying circumstances.

His memoir journals the dramatic days of his forty years as an award-winning designer commissioned by celebrities, world leaders, and other luminaries; his (secret) debilitating and death-defying battle with diabetes; and the struggle to hold on to himself and those he cared about along the way.

"I first knew I was going to live an extraordinary life when Zsa Zsa Gabor said I should be on stage," said Wiltgen.

But then Sid Caesar told him, "If you don't have tragedy, you won't have comedy."

The years have taught Wiltgen they were both right.

Wiltgen was diagnosed with T1D when he was eight. At that time, his parents were told he would not live to see 40. For a kid from a middle-class suburb of Chicago his life has been exceptional.

He graduated high school in three years.

When he was 16, he apprenticed at a theatre working with Hollywood legends such as Zsa Zsa and Eva Gabor, Louis Jordan, Leslie Caron, Syd Caesar, and Imogene Coca.

Wiltgen started his own residential design firm at 18 and never looked back-even when he could not see. "After all, who wants to hire a blind designer?" he laughs.

Wiltgen fought diabetic retinopathy in his early 20's for four years and won. A year later he was told he needed a kidney transplant. Performed at the University of Minnesota, it is now 36 years post-surgery and still functioning! "The surgeons told me it would last 12-15 years but they were mistaken," said Wiltgen.

In his 30's he developed heart disease, fought cellulitis, osteomyelitis, a below the knee amputation, pulmonary fibrosis and skin cancer.

Wiltgen also survived COVID in April of 2020 when no one knew anything about it. "The doctors would not come into my room. Instead, they phoned me on the hospital's phone to find out how I was doing," he said.

Nonetheless, his memoir includes larger-than life tales that are extremely entertaining. Though his life involves many tragedies, it also includes exciting personal and professional adventures as well as celebrity cameos with stars such as Jane Seymour, Timothy Hutton, Angelina Jolie, Sean and Robyn Wright Penn, Steve Harvey, John Cusack, the former Governor and First Lady of Lagos State, Nigeria (who is now running for President of that country) and Jesus.

His career has included designing homes across the United States, Canada, Mexico-even Africa. Wiltgen has appeared on HGTV, NBC, FOX, WTTW etc. His completed projects have been featured in more than 200 newspapers and magazines not including the hardcover coffee table books that also display his work. He has received 45 awards from his peers.

Navid Ziran, an orthopedic trauma surgeon said, "I perform many amputations due to diabetic foot infections and am very familiar with the effects of diabetes on the mental and physical quality of life as well as the overall longevity."

"The five-year mortality rate after an amputation is 62%," Ziran noted. Other individuals would have died a long time ago, yet he not only survived but became a world-renown designer," said Ziran.

"John is a quintessential example of how the human spirit can not only adapt but also flourish and succeed despite overwhelming obstacles. Truly, his life story embraces "ad astra per aspera"-a crooked path leads to the stars," said Ziran.

"I would say that regarding survivability and inner strength, John represents the end of the bell curve for not only diabetic patients but also humans," he concluded.

Holly Hunt, founder of the celebrated luxury home furnishings and design brand said, "John has a talent for storytelling and writing as well as for design, but the most important part of this memoir is his amazing energy and determination to live with the debilitating disease type 1 diabetes, Hunt said. "He enjoys a full life gathering fabulous, famous and adventurous friends, and gives back to many far more than he takes. He never looks back, always forward choosing to be happy and fully engaged while hiding his scars and physically damaged parts with Versace!"

Cynthia Rowley, global fashion designer, remarked, "I laughed out loud at every story. John's triumph over medical adversity is enormously uplifting. He chooses joy, happiness and unwavering positivity in his quest to live life on his own terms. I have never met a person with more energy and pathological optimism."

"I wrote this book to help people of all beliefs and backgrounds remain optimistic in the worst of times-no matter what personal or professional challenges they're dealing with," stated Wiltgen. "You might not have diabetes or know someone who does, but we all have challenges-and need stories exemplifying how to live our best lives-or, at least, laugh while trying!"

"The Candy in My Pocket" would make a great holiday gift not only for any one of the 500,000,000 diabetics around the globe, but for anyone fighting a debilitating disease. It can be purchased online through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, the Book Depository, even Walmart.

He's appeared on HGTV's I Want That! Baths; I Want That! Kitchens; and Homes Across America as well as NBC's Open House, Fox Television, and WTTW. He is a great interview.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

John Robert Wiltgen started writing as soon as his mother bought him a used Underwood typewriter at a garage sale. During middle school he was editor of the school newspaper. He graduated high school in 3 years studying art, literature, creative writing and theater. After a brief stint at design school, he embarked on his career as a residential designer and never looked back.

Wiltgen continued to grow his award-winning and successful residential design firm while fighting many obstacles. He obsessed over making his client's worlds beautiful taking him across North America and halfway around the world-from Chicago's Gold Coast to Africa's Ivory Coast. John Robert Wiltgen Design is synonymous with its reputation for excellence and superior quality in design, styling, and craftsmanship.

"The Candy in My Pocket" is Wiltgen's first book-a very personal memoir. However, he promises to delve into writing fiction next.

About his life John likes to quote the American writer, Elbert Hubbard. Born in 1857, raised in Illinois, he wrote, "Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out alive."

Revolutionary Restroom Organizer Protects Purses and Phones at Stalls and Urinals

ST. LOUIS, Mo. /ScoopCloud/ -- Increased awareness of germs and bacteria has changed our behavior regarding contact and hygiene. These changes are notable regarding the use of commercial restrooms, which 60% of Americans visit at least once a week. One of the top complaints of shared restrooms is the risk of subjecting one's personal belongings to germs, damage, and theft. This means every day, millions of people are entering a vulnerable space without convenient protection for their phones, purses, and other personal belongings. StallStash, a restroom partition shelf, improves the safety and comfort of restroom visits by keeping belongings clean, close, and safe.

"Today, 42% of us are more concerned about using a public restroom than we were 18 months ago," says Robert Kodner, president of StallStash. "In addition to sanitary issues, we know that the average cost of a cell phone is $580, and a typical purse contains $720 worth of items."

Kodner continues, "For many of us, using a public restroom is a 'necessary evil.' By offering a solution that allows restroom visitors to keep their belongings safe and clean, we are able to improve the restroom experience for everyone. As an added benefit, 64% of us will frequent a business based on the fact it has clean restrooms."

StallStash units attach easily to all standard restroom partitions (without tools or hardware), and are made of 100% plexiglass. StallStash units are engineered to protect cell phones, purses, laptops, wallets, backpacks, and briefcases.

Fran Kaiser, a property manager at Century Management in California, says, "When one of our tenants asked us to find a way to help keep purses, phones, and files off the bathroom floor, we knew just the standard hooks would not do. I searched high and low and nothing would fit their needs until we found StallStash. I now use them in our restrooms. They have held up to the usage, and we could not be happier with the product."

StallStash is designed for all public and commercial restrooms. StallStash clients include medical facilities, restaurants, commercial buildings, shopping centers, event spaces, schools, fitness centers, stadiums, venues, transportation terminals, places of worship, and popular attractions.

Prime Retail Services Congratulates Leadership Program Graduates and Announces Release of New Self-Directed Online Leadership Training

FENTON, Mich. /ScoopCloud/ -- Prime Retail Services (https://primeretailservices.com/) will be presenting certificates to their two graduates from their in-house leadership training called L.E.A.D. (Leadership Empowerment and Development). Prime is now in the process of developing what they are calling L.E.A.D. 2.0 which will be an online self-directed training program for all employees from field techs to the leadership team.

The goal of this training is to equip every employee with the tools they need to be leaders in their job and communities. The award ceremony for their current graduates will be in Fenton, Mich., on Sept. 15.

"Our mission at Prime is to be great at managing projects and to make a lifetime impact on the people we encounter," says Donald Bloom, President and CEO of Prime Retail Services. "Our goal is to encourage each employee to complete the program, so they are personally better equipped to make an impact on people in their lives."

Eighty-three percent of organizations say it is important to develop leaders at all levels in their company, but surprisingly only 5% have fully implemented leadership development available at all levels. There is an obvious disconnect in these numbers. And whether it be the cost of implementation, the manpower and hours required to build out a training program, or possibly just the proverbial ostrich's head in the sand, companies are missing the mark when it comes to training and development from the bottom up. As a result, many companies are struggling to find people who can lead from within their organization or from external talent pools.

Prime has become aware of this leadership gap in their organization and are very excited about building and implementing a training program designed and tailored to the various parts of their company. The initial roll-out of what they call their L.E.A.D. Program, which stands for Leadership Empowerment and Development, was focused on their leads in the field. The two leads, Jeff Rodkey and Tevon Weaver, have both completed the initial training, affectionately called L.E.A.D. 1.0, and will be receiving their Prime-Certified L.E.A.D. certificates in Fenton, Mich., on Sunday, Sept. 15.

The second phase of the program will be pushed out at the beginning of 2020 with an entirely new batch of young leaders. This new program, L.E.A.D. 2.0, is designed to be an online, self-directed, and internally tracked leadership development course that will focus on six KPI's ranging from professionalism to safety.

Bloom continues by saying that Prime has "...the ability to make an intentional influence on everyone we work with through living out our core values of honesty, integrity, hard work, putting others above ourselves, and thanking God for his provision. I am encouraged to know that every employee at Prime will learn how to make their lives a success so that whether they retire at Prime or move to another career, we were able to make an impact."

Care9 focuses on helping clients create on-trend design plans for their home while allowing them the flexibility and satisfaction of ultimately completing their design project on their own.

With Care9's e-design services, clients get one-on-one online design consultations with a design expert, who works with the client to understand their needs, style preferences, budget, and desired outcomes. Using this information, Care9's team puts together an interactive design plan of each room the client is seeking design feedback on and delivers it to the client's inbox. The client is then able to provide comments and feedback and ask questions and even shop the designs provided in the interactive plan with one click. The process is hassle-free and provides the perfect level of support and interaction for do-it-yourselfers.

The benefits of e-design are numerous for the busy and budget conscious do-it-yourselfer. Since all transactions are online, clients save time by not having to find time in their schedules to meet with a designer. Additionally, clients save money by not having to pay the designer's time to shop for the products featured in the design plan-the provided plans allow the client to shop for the products themselves.

The design plan that Care9 provides also helps clients avoid potentially costly design mistakes by giving them a comprehensive design overview of their spaces, so they can see how everything works together before spending money on items and can make the determination if a piece fits into their budget or not.

Karen Kneib, owner of Care 9 Redesign Home Staging, got into the business of home design and staging because she believes that all spaces can reflect beauty, comfort, and purpose: "Every space has potential for beauty. Our joy comes from working with the homeowners and bringing out the potential in every room."

By working with clients to create trendy, on-style home designs that reflect the homeowner's personality, Care9 helps clients breathe new life into tired old spaces by providing expert design advice while understanding the client's needs.

The space is a determining factor in the layout of Moduline Cabinets in the garage or workshop, but goals are also an important consideration. Moduline Cabinets has a variety of cabinet types, sizes and layouts available to fit the goals for the space. Consider, for example, if the space needs to be functional for car maintenance. Moduline Cabinets has movable military-grade aluminum mobile tool boxes that can be stationed nearby while working on a vehicle.

If the purpose is also to organize and store car parts, other household items and tools, then there are specific cabinets and accessories built to fit in any space. Moduline Cabinets also manufactures tall cabinets that are efficient for storing brooms, vacuums, and other tall tools or household items. Call our cabinet experts with details on how the space will be used. Our technical designers can create a layout to fit goals for the space.

DAPA Products Shares Welt Cording Ideas to Take Upholstery and Home Furnishings to the Next Level

JASPER, Ala. /ScoopCloud/ -- DAPA Products, manufacturer of upholstery and fenestration products, shares ideas on how to take upholstered furniture and furnishings to the next level with welt cords. DAPA Products innovated the industry with the launch of Foam Welt Cord and Foam Screen Spline, which reduced the incidents of carpal tunnel syndrome in workers who installed screen spline in windows and doors. As the market grows, so does their customer base. These ideas are based on the products they've seen in the industry.

Whether designing for clients or for the home, the decor that is on display in magazines and local shops typically include custom details that add a touch of luxury and elegance. From the complimentary colored cording running along the edge of drapery, to the same colored cord that frames a pillow, to the cording that adds a touch of class to upholstered furniture. These details make a difference in the value of the product.

1. Use welt cords for pillows to trim and frame them. Creating piping for the edges of pillows takes minimal time and adds all the difference in terms of the way the pillow looks. Piping adds value to the finished product. Contrasting piping and pillow colors can be a statement for the décor.

2. Trim for draperies. Welt cord can be used as trimming for drapes. Instead of sewing on another lace or pom-pom trim, try sewing welt cord to frame the edge of the drapes.

3. Upholstery trim. Add trim to upholstered chairs, sofas, and other furniture with braided welt cord. Piping can add contrasting, complimentary, and symmetrical color combinations to complement or contrast the patterns and colors in the room.

4. Trim headboards. Upholstered headboards have added a modern décor look to these pieces of furniture. Adding trim to a headboard adds visual interest and value.

5. Hotrod and auto upholstery. Touches of trim aren't just for home furnishings. Today's hotrods also benefit from adding welt cords to leather upholstery. The trim is used on the interiors of the vehicles.

DAPA Products has a list of the industries they serve with welt cord and other upholstery and fenestration products. Their products are made with virgin raw materials, not scrap, to uphold their commitment to the highest quality products.
