Scientific Studies Show That Fiber and Antioxidants Can Counteract the Effects of Junk Food and Promote Cholesterol and Weight Control Without Restriction – Diet, Nutrition, Health

CHICAGO, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- DéShond E Barnes, author and nutrition enthusiast, has announced the release of his book "Counteract the Fat: How Scientific Studies Have Shown That Fiber and Antioxidants Can Counteract the Physiological Effects of Junk Food & Promote Cholesterol & Weight Control Without Restriction" (ISBN: 979-8397068956). In "Counteract the Fat," Barnes compiles research findings that indicate that fiber and antioxidants can mitigate the health risks associated with junk food by counteracting the physiological effects of high-fat and other junk food.

This does not mean that unlimited consumption of junk food without consequences is now possible. What it does mean is greater freedom, less restriction and a wider variety of food choices for healthy individuals.

Such groundbreaking research findings include:

* High-fat foods produce cholesterol-related acids that can clog arteries and raise cholesterol levels - opening the door to heart disease. Scientists at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine have identified a type of fiber known as "beta glucans" that can counteract that effect. Scientists have reported that beta glucans promote healthy cholesterol by nabbing cholesterol-related acids produced by dietary fat - ushering them out of the body before they can ravage the heart and arteries.

* The excess calories in high-fat foods are absorbed by the body and stored as fat, and can cause weight gain - opening the door to obesity. Fiber can counteract that effect. Scientists at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Human Nutrition Research Center in Maryland have reported that fiber helps prevent weight gain by reducing the amount of calories the body absorbs. It does that by nabbing calories before they can be absorbed and stored as fat - making it harder to gain weight and lowering the risk of obesity.

* Deep-fried fatty foods form "oxidized lipids" that damage cells and the lining of the blood vessels - opening the door to heart disease. Antioxidants can counteract that effect. Scientists at the Cardiology Research Institute in Moscow have reported that antioxidants inhibit the formation of oxidized lipids - thus inhibiting damage to cells and to the lining of the blood vessels and lowering the risk of heart disease.

* The excess calories in high-fat foods are absorbed by the body and stored as fat, and can cause weight gain - opening the door to obesity. Antioxidants can counteract that effect. Scientists have reported that antioxidants help prevent weight gain by providing the body with the energy needed to burn fat more efficiently - making it harder to gain weight and reducing the risk of obesity.

* Hot dogs, bacon and other tasty processed meats contain "nitrites." Over time, nitrites can open the door to pancreatic cancer by breaking down and converting to "nitrosamines." Vitamins C and E can counteract that effect. Scientists have reported that vitamins C and E neutralize nitrites - thus inhibiting nitrosamine formation over time and reducing the risk of pancreatic cancer.

* Many junk foods are high in sodium. Excess sodium can open the door to high blood pressure by causing the body to retain water, which increases the volume of blood. Potassium can counteract that effect. Scientists have reported that potassium flushes excess sodium out of the body - thus reducing the risk of high blood pressure.

* And many, many more groundbreaking research findings.

"Counteract the Fat" is a viable alternative to restrictive eating habits that stands alone as an informative, research-backed contribution to dietary science. The book explains how fiber and antioxidants can help stave off illness and obesity in a non-restrictive diet.

"Counteract the Fat" is perfect for healthy adults with no history of debilitating illnesses who would like to maintain their health without sacrificing their favorite indulgences. "Counteract the Fat" uncovers discoveries made by scientists at more than a dozen world-class institutions.

About the Author:

DéShond E Barnes discovered the "Counteract the Fat" concept in the late 1990's by poring through medical journals and health, nutrition and diet publications for nearly a year, and has practiced the revolutionary "Counteract the Fat" methodology ever since - with incredible success. By examining nutrition facts labels, calculating the total amount of fiber, antioxidants and other nutrients provided by health foods, and consuming a daily diet containing 100+% of the Recommended Daily Allowance for fiber, antioxidants and other nutrients - Barnes has maintained excellent blood cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure and body weight over the decades without sacrificing junk food favorites.

This has inspired Barnes to share this information with the rest of the world by publishing "Counteract the Fat" more than two decades later. Barnes also teaches "Counteract the Fat" seminars at local Y.M.C.A.'s and public libraries in northern Illinois to spread the word about the "Counteract the Fat" methodology.

Forbes Top Wealth Advisors Best-In-State (2023)

Research Summary (as of April 2023): 39,007 Advisor nominations were received based on high thresholds. 22,243 Advisors were invited to complete the online survey. SHOOK has conducted over 17,546 telephone interviews with advisors. 3,557 Advisors were interviewed in-person at the Advisors' location and 1,361 interview were web-based. Final list of the top 250 advisors was then compiled based an algorithm that considers both quantitative and qualitative criteria. This ranking is not indicative of an advisor's future performance, is not an endorsement, and may not be representative of individual clients' experience. The 2023 Forbes ranking of America's Top Wealth Management Teams Best-In-State, developed by SHOOK Research, is based on an algorithm of qualitative criteria, mostly gained through telephone and in-person due diligence interviews, and quantitative data. This ranking is based upon the period from 4/1/2021 to 3/31/2022 and was released on 01/12/2023. Advisor teams that are considered must have one advisor with a minimum of seven years of experience, have been in existence as a team for at least one year, have at least 5 team members, and have been nominated by their firm. The algorithm weights factors like revenue trends, assets under management, compliance records, industry experience and those that encompass best practices in their practices and approach to working with clients. Portfolio performance is not a criteria due to varying client objectives and lack of audited data. Out of approximately 8,000 team nominations, 2,860 advisor teams received the award based on thresholds. This ranking is not indicative of an advisor's future performance, is not an endorsement, and may not be representative of individual clients' experience. Scorecard Ranks States for Water Efficiency and Sustainability Policies – States Responding Slowly to Escalating Water Supply Challenges

CHICAGO, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- Today the Alliance for Water Efficiency (AWE) released the 2022 U.S. State Policy Scorecard for Water Efficiency and Sustainability (Scorecard), which ranked each U.S. state based on its adoption of laws and policies that advance water efficiency, conservation, sustainability, and affordability. California was the top-ranked state in the nation, followed by Texas, Arizona, Georgia, Washington, New York, Nevada, New Hampshire, Colorado, and Minnesota.

While some states improved since AWE's previous Scorecard was released in 2017, the analysis found little progress overall, even as droughts and other climate change impacts increasingly undermine affordable, reliable water services. The average state score was only 23 out of 89 possible points.

"Providing sustainable water services is increasingly costly and complicated because of climate change and other factors," said Ron Burke, President and CEO of AWE. "It is important that states, as well as the federal government, support local efforts to reduce water use with financial assistance, policies that drive best practices, and planning that facilitates cooperation across watersheds."

In the Western U.S., a prolonged drought, fueled by climate change, has contributed to significant water supply shortages. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has called for states in the Colorado River Basin (CRB) to significantly reduce water demand, but negotiations have not resulted in an agreement. AWE found numerous opportunities for policy improvement among the seven CRB states - which averaged 37 out of 89 possible points - such as adopting plumbing efficiency standards, limiting water loss from utility distribution systems, and funding water reuse and recycling.

A common misperception is that water efficiency and conservation are only important in the American Southwest. However, drought is increasingly common across the nation, with nearly every state experiencing drought in 2022. In addition, the benefits of reducing water use go beyond preventing water shortages. That is reflected in the geographic diversity of the top ten ranked states, with representation from the West but also the South, Midwest, and East.

"Water efficiency and conservation are typically the fastest and least expensive ways to save water while also lowering water bills, reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, protecting rivers and lakes, and enhancing resilience to extreme weather events," said Burke.

Effective state-level water conservation policies are even more important now that the U.S. Congress has authorized billions of dollars in loans and grants for water services as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act. Many of these funds will be administered by states and can only be maximized with good state policies in place.

Key findings include:

* Connecticut was the only state that reported using its own funds to support customer water bill assistance

* California is the only state that requires water utilities to plan for climate change

* 18 states use their own revenues to fund water efficiency and conservation

* 16 states provide funding for water reuse.

* 13 states require rate structures that encourage water efficiency

* 19 states require coordination between local land use and water planning agencies.

Despite the low scores, there were some bright spots, including ten states adopting point-of-sale plumbing efficiency requirements since 2017 that go beyond federal standards, for a current total of 15 states plus the District of Columbia.

Designer John Robert Wiltgen Beats the Odds: ‘The Candy in My Pocket’ – An Inspirational Memoir About Designing Your Best Life

CHICAGO, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- With holiday shopping just around the corner, John Robert Wiltgen's riveting memoir "The Candy in My Pocket" (ISBN: 979-8986007007), is now available for the gift giving season. As a type 1 diabetic for more than 55 years, Wiltgen has been a successful business owner and now author whose memoir describes his journey of finding joy and success amidst a life riddled with obstacles and despair due to insulin-dependent diabetes.

Critics describe "The Candy in My Pocket" as an inspirational but irreverent story about designing your best life despite horrifying circumstances.

His memoir journals the dramatic days of his forty years as an award-winning designer commissioned by celebrities, world leaders, and other luminaries; his (secret) debilitating and death-defying battle with diabetes; and the struggle to hold on to himself and those he cared about along the way.

"I first knew I was going to live an extraordinary life when Zsa Zsa Gabor said I should be on stage," said Wiltgen.

But then Sid Caesar told him, "If you don't have tragedy, you won't have comedy."

The years have taught Wiltgen they were both right.

Wiltgen was diagnosed with T1D when he was eight. At that time, his parents were told he would not live to see 40. For a kid from a middle-class suburb of Chicago his life has been exceptional.

He graduated high school in three years.

When he was 16, he apprenticed at a theatre working with Hollywood legends such as Zsa Zsa and Eva Gabor, Louis Jordan, Leslie Caron, Syd Caesar, and Imogene Coca.

Wiltgen started his own residential design firm at 18 and never looked back-even when he could not see. "After all, who wants to hire a blind designer?" he laughs.

Wiltgen fought diabetic retinopathy in his early 20's for four years and won. A year later he was told he needed a kidney transplant. Performed at the University of Minnesota, it is now 36 years post-surgery and still functioning! "The surgeons told me it would last 12-15 years but they were mistaken," said Wiltgen.

In his 30's he developed heart disease, fought cellulitis, osteomyelitis, a below the knee amputation, pulmonary fibrosis and skin cancer.

Wiltgen also survived COVID in April of 2020 when no one knew anything about it. "The doctors would not come into my room. Instead, they phoned me on the hospital's phone to find out how I was doing," he said.

Nonetheless, his memoir includes larger-than life tales that are extremely entertaining. Though his life involves many tragedies, it also includes exciting personal and professional adventures as well as celebrity cameos with stars such as Jane Seymour, Timothy Hutton, Angelina Jolie, Sean and Robyn Wright Penn, Steve Harvey, John Cusack, the former Governor and First Lady of Lagos State, Nigeria (who is now running for President of that country) and Jesus.

His career has included designing homes across the United States, Canada, Mexico-even Africa. Wiltgen has appeared on HGTV, NBC, FOX, WTTW etc. His completed projects have been featured in more than 200 newspapers and magazines not including the hardcover coffee table books that also display his work. He has received 45 awards from his peers.

Navid Ziran, an orthopedic trauma surgeon said, "I perform many amputations due to diabetic foot infections and am very familiar with the effects of diabetes on the mental and physical quality of life as well as the overall longevity."

"The five-year mortality rate after an amputation is 62%," Ziran noted. Other individuals would have died a long time ago, yet he not only survived but became a world-renown designer," said Ziran.

"John is a quintessential example of how the human spirit can not only adapt but also flourish and succeed despite overwhelming obstacles. Truly, his life story embraces "ad astra per aspera"-a crooked path leads to the stars," said Ziran.

"I would say that regarding survivability and inner strength, John represents the end of the bell curve for not only diabetic patients but also humans," he concluded.

Holly Hunt, founder of the celebrated luxury home furnishings and design brand said, "John has a talent for storytelling and writing as well as for design, but the most important part of this memoir is his amazing energy and determination to live with the debilitating disease type 1 diabetes, Hunt said. "He enjoys a full life gathering fabulous, famous and adventurous friends, and gives back to many far more than he takes. He never looks back, always forward choosing to be happy and fully engaged while hiding his scars and physically damaged parts with Versace!"

Cynthia Rowley, global fashion designer, remarked, "I laughed out loud at every story. John's triumph over medical adversity is enormously uplifting. He chooses joy, happiness and unwavering positivity in his quest to live life on his own terms. I have never met a person with more energy and pathological optimism."

"I wrote this book to help people of all beliefs and backgrounds remain optimistic in the worst of times-no matter what personal or professional challenges they're dealing with," stated Wiltgen. "You might not have diabetes or know someone who does, but we all have challenges-and need stories exemplifying how to live our best lives-or, at least, laugh while trying!"

"The Candy in My Pocket" would make a great holiday gift not only for any one of the 500,000,000 diabetics around the globe, but for anyone fighting a debilitating disease. It can be purchased online through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, the Book Depository, even Walmart.

He's appeared on HGTV's I Want That! Baths; I Want That! Kitchens; and Homes Across America as well as NBC's Open House, Fox Television, and WTTW. He is a great interview.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

John Robert Wiltgen started writing as soon as his mother bought him a used Underwood typewriter at a garage sale. During middle school he was editor of the school newspaper. He graduated high school in 3 years studying art, literature, creative writing and theater. After a brief stint at design school, he embarked on his career as a residential designer and never looked back.

Wiltgen continued to grow his award-winning and successful residential design firm while fighting many obstacles. He obsessed over making his client's worlds beautiful taking him across North America and halfway around the world-from Chicago's Gold Coast to Africa's Ivory Coast. John Robert Wiltgen Design is synonymous with its reputation for excellence and superior quality in design, styling, and craftsmanship.

"The Candy in My Pocket" is Wiltgen's first book-a very personal memoir. However, he promises to delve into writing fiction next.

About his life John likes to quote the American writer, Elbert Hubbard. Born in 1857, raised in Illinois, he wrote, "Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out alive."

Dan Robin, Attorney General Candidate in Illinois, Offers Best Possible Challenge to President Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- Dan Robin, Libertarian Party (LP) candidate for Illinois Attorney General (AG), intends to file a lawsuit against the student loan servicers for fraud if they follow President Biden's forgiveness plans.

"President Biden's student loan forgiveness executive order is illegal," Robin says. "He lacks legislative authority. But, does anyone have standing to challenge it?"

Robin does. He plans to file suit against the loan servicers for fraud. Billing for the lower amount, when in fact the full amount is due, is fraud. Borrowers will incur extra interest and penalties if they follow the "misrepresentation" of the collection agencies.

In response to the President's student loan plan, Robin issued the following statement:

President Biden's August 24, 2022 statement and release canceled $10,000 of student loans for those with income up to $125,000 for individuals and $250,000 for married couples. No statute gives the President authority to "cancel" debt across the board, as he did.

Many laws and/or executive orders are illegal or unconstitutional. You cannot simply ask a judge to declare a law to be unlawful. You must have standing; a real case where you allege existing or potential injury. Students receiving the loan cancellation aren't going to sue; students not receiving the cancellation have no injury. Taxpayers and politicians have no standing to sue, either.

It is very difficult to find anyone who can lawfully challenge the president's executive order, but there is one possible exception. The Pacific Legal Foundation recently filed suit claiming that their client, a student borrower, would be taxed by the state of Indiana for discharged debt. I wish them all the luck in their endeavors.

The current Illinois AG Kwame Raoul recently settled a lawsuit against the student loan servicers for fraud associated with their collection techniques. The Attorney General has authority to enforce the consumer fraud statutes in Illinois. It is my theory that since the cancellation is unlawful and the collection agencies are mandated to honestly represent the correct amount due to the borrowers, any statement that they owe the reduced amount would constitute a material misrepresentation of fact, i.e., fraud. Student borrowers will incur extra interest and penalties if they follow the misrepresentation of the collection agencies.

Therefore, if elected to the office of Attorney General, I would file suit against any collection agency that misrepresented to the borrowers the amount due. The agencies would then have a choice, either collect on the lesser amount and be sued by myself, or collect on the original amount and be sued by the president.

The people of Illinois deserve to know whether my opponents intend to prevent fraud by the student loan servicers.

Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 (Illinois) Selects Synergy Student Information System

LAKE ZURICH, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- Edupoint® Educational Systems announced today that Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 (LZCUSD) has selected the company's industry-leading Synergy® Student Information System (SIS) for its student data management needs. The district's solution will include Synergy SIS and Synergy Online Registration, hosted in the Synergy Cloud environment. LZCUSD serves over 5,500 students across eight schools northwest of Chicago.

Lake Zurich leadership began looking for a new SIS after determining that the district's technology plan for the next decade would require moving to a more flexible, forward-thinking system. They launched a thorough and inclusive multi-step process that involved nurses, teachers, principals, secretaries, parents, and students from the requirements gathering stage. After online and in-person demonstrations of three finalist systems, the core team selected Synergy SIS for its flexibility, forward-thinking design, and wide-ranging functionality.

Synergy SIS balances ease of use with a degree of control that is unmatched in the marketplace. Synergy provides schools and districts with exceptional data access and reporting capabilities, powerful tools for streamlining and automating processes, extensive customization options, and best-in-class data security. The built-in TeacherVUE® Portal With Gradebook gives teachers a single place to access attendance and seating charts, a 360° profile of every student, and tools for analyzing student progress and standards proficiency. The ParentVUE® and StudentVUE® portals provide families with unprecedented access to grades, assignments, progress indicators, and teacher communication. Role-based mobile apps offer convenience for teachers, administrators, special education teams, counselors, health staff, parents, and students.

"We felt like we were picking the best of the best," said Phillip Howard, Executive Director of Technology at Lake Zurich. "It met 913 of our 915 functional requirements. That's pretty great. The mobile-first posture was really compelling. So was the ability to directly access the database. We liked that Synergy would allow us to customize every screen to our heart's content despite being a full-featured product off-the-shelf. The user interface was thoughtfully laid out and scored high for ease of use. Plus, it's a one-stop shop - we didn't have to buy a bunch of add-ons or systems that would need support from a third party."

As part of the seamless Synergy Education Platform ecosystem, Synergy SIS enables schools and districts to easily extend functionality to include online registration, MTSS, assessment, analytics, learning management, and special education management in a single platform.

"Lake Zurich CUSD's search for a new student information system was about more than just software," said Rob Wilson, President and Chief Innovation Officer at Edupoint. "It was about finding the right partnership to take the district into the future. At Edupoint we work hard to be that partner and were pleased that the evaluation team saw the evidence in our product. We look forward to supporting the district in achieving its goals and fulfilling its mission to 'empower every learner to achieve personal excellence.'"

An important part of Stride's continued success is their exceptional team of empathetic and experienced clinicians. These clinicians use a therapeutic approach based in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy, which has been thoroughly evaluated and is widely regarded as the gold standard of autism treatment. Each child that participates in Stride's full-day program gets a fully customized treatment plan meticulously crafted by one of the organization's Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA).

Brad Zelinger, Stride's Founder and CEO, explained that "Stride's mission to provide the best possible support to children with autism and their families is deeply personal to me. My sister has an autism-related disorder called Rett Syndrome. She is nonverbal, and requires substantial support in everyday activities. I founded Stride so individuals like her can get the effective therapy they need as early as possible to live more independent, joyous lives. As a Chicago native, I'm particularly motivated to bring Stride's services to underserved areas near where I was raised."

Speaking on the philosophy behind the program, Stride's Clinical Director and University Chair of ABA at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Dr. Ashley Whittington-Barnish, PhD, LCP, BCBA-D, NCSP said that "Decades of research demonstrating the effectiveness of early intervention for children with autism underlie our decision to specialize in the early treatment of young learners."

"Our mission-driven team is incredibly motivated by Stride's unwavering commitment to meaningful outcomes. We're grateful that our singular focus on the highest quality care has allowed us to attract outstanding clinical leaders and therapists alike," Dr. Whittington-Barnish added.

ACI Board of Trustees Appoints April Arnold as ACI Executive Director

CHICAGO, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Board of Trustees of Associated Colleges of Illinois (ACI) (https://acifund.org) appointed April Arnold, CFRE, as ACI executive director, succeeding Mick Weltman, who will retire after leading the organization for nearly eight years. Arnold brings substantial experience as a leader and fundraiser in higher education institutions and nonprofit organizations. She begins her leadership role with ACI July 5.

Currently, Arnold is an independent consultant who has worked with organizations such as Kidsmatter, Naperville, Illinois, and Futures Fundamentals, Chicago.

Arnold, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, said she is honored to be selected as ACI's next executive director. "My passion has always been to support youth," she said. "As a first-generation college student, I understand what degree completion means not only for student success, but also for the success of the family. My own experience would have been quite different without encouragement and guidance from others. To me, the secret sauce of ACI is in what we can do to augment resources, provide connections, and foster opportunities to support the colleges and universities served."

Arnold's experience as a fundraiser was key in her selection as executive director, said Lyn Bulman, chair of the ACI Board of Trustees. "The breadth of her not-for-profit experience, and particularly her time in higher education, was also an attraction," she commented. "In addition to her previous roles, everyone who met April as part of the selection process felt that she would be a good fit with ACI's culture. I am confident that April Arnold will be a worthy successor and a strong ambassador for ACI's mission."

Arnold's previous work experience includes serving as operations director for Sounds Good Choir, NFP, Downers Grove, Illinois, from 2019 to 2022. In that role, she established procedures and operations for the startup organization that serves hundreds of older adults in the Chicago area through community-based choirs. Her success included annual fundraising campaigns that increased at least 9 percent each year.

In higher education roles, she was director of corporate and foundation relations at Northern Illinois University (NIU) from 2014 to 2018. At NIU, she developed new giving policies, raised $2.5 million towards scholarship and program support, and secured one of the largest seven-figure gifts to the foundation. From 2007 to 2013, Arnold worked at Elmhurst University, Elmhurst, Illinois, an ACI member, where she was director of institutional giving and served in other senior development roles. Among her achievements were generating more than $1 million in new gifts to support capital, endowed and annual initiatives, raising $1.7 million toward a department goal of $3 million, organizing a signature fundraising event that netted more than $300,000 annually and establishing corporate alumni gatherings to build engagement.

In addition, Arnold held senior-level development and marketing roles with several nonprofit organizations, including Elmhurst Art Museum; Museum Explorer, Inc., North Riverside, Illinois, where she was also co-founder; DuPage Children's Museum, Naperville; plus Arts Alliance Illinois, Classic Digital, Inc., and Chicago Symphony Orchestra, all in Chicago.

Arnold became a Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) in March 2020. She is also active in community service activities. In 2019, she was named Outstanding Volunteer for West Suburban Philanthropic Network, Wheaton. Since 2019, she has served on the DuPage Board of Directors for Metropolitan Family Services, Wheaton, and is development and stewardship chair. She previously served on the board for Family Shelter Service, Wheaton, and served on strategic planning committees for DuPage Convention and Visitor's Bureau, and DuPage Arts for All.

Arnold and her family reside in suburban Chicago.

About Associated Colleges of Illinois (ACI):

ACI is a collaboration of 26 private, independent colleges and universities, representing more than 70,000 students. Established in 1952, ACI supports member colleges and universities by advancing independent liberal arts and sciences education and helping underserved students succeed in college, careers and life. ACLENet and Government of Uganda Sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to Further ‘Building Lightning Safe Communities’ Effort

CHICAGO, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- An important milestone for promoting lightning safety across Africa occurred with the February 2022 signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the US and Uganda-based African Centers for Lightning and Electromagnetics Network (ACLENet) and the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) of Uganda. This MoU was piloted and promoted by the Ministry of Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees (MoRDP'R) within the Prime Minister's Office.

"My Ministry is working with ACLENet on the scientific aspects of disaster preparedness," said Hilary Onek, the Hon Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees. "It is the hope of parties involved in this partnership to make this optimism a reality," Onek explained during a Public Service Announcement (PSA), an integral part of engagements leading to the signing of the MoU that was broadcast during the 2021 holiday season in both English and Luganda, the primary indigenous language in Uganda.

The MoU is an important milestone for ACLENet, as it is expected to provide instrumental framework for: 1) A national mandate to plan, promote, and advocate for lightning safety across Uganda; 2) Introduction of scientific principles of lightning safety for people, property, and places according to globally recognized lightning protection system (LPS) safety standard provisions of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

"This partnership is expected to further ACLENet's goals of saving lives and property across Africa," said Dr. Mary Ann Cooper, Managing Director of ACLENet.

Data sets and information packages are being prepared for the Hon. Minister for onward submission to appropriate units within the Government of Uganda and general public and include priorities outlined in The United Nation's Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 as well as a database on lightning injuries.

"Specifically, ACLENet plans to expand the work piloted with programs and interventions over the last seven years and in partnership with the National Emergency Coordination and Operations Centre (NECOC), a specialized department of MoRDP'R," explained Dr. Cooper. "Together, we aim to advance the 'building lightning safe communities' effort by reducing the number of deaths, injuries, and property damage from lightning."

Here in the U.S., the International Code Council (I.C.C.) is celebrating its 42nd annual Building Safety Month campaign with the theme "Safety for All: Building Codes in Action," to raise awareness about the importance of building codes in ensuring safety in spaces in which we live work and learn.

"Building Safety Month focuses on issues that impact our everyday lives: building safety, energy, water and disasters-factors of constant concern for homes, schools, businesses and communities," said Code Council Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims, CBO.

Source: Forbes.com (April 2022)

The Forbes ranking of Best-In-State Wealth Advisors, developed by SHOOK Research, is based on an algorithm of qualitative criteria, mostly gained through telephone and in-person due diligence interviews, and quantitative data. Those advisors that are considered have a minimum of seven years of experience, and the algorithm weights factors like revenue trends, assets under management, compliance records, industry experience and those that encompass best practices in their practices and approach to working with clients. Portfolio performance is not a criteria due to varying client objectives and lack of audited data. Out of approximately 34,925 nominations, more than 6,550 advisors received the award. This ranking is not indicative of an advisor's future performance, is not an endorsement, and may not be representative of individual clients' experience. Chicago-based Swift Homes Achieves 500 5-Star Reviews

CHICAGO, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- A professional home buying company that helps homeowners across the United States sell their properties quickly for top cash value, Swift Homes is proud to have surpassed 500 5-star reviews from highly satisfied sellers.

"Swift Homes' mission is to help homeowners achieve the best possible outcome when selling their home, and we are thrilled that the service we provide to sellers is reflected in our 5-star reviews," said Zach Fertig, President of Swift Homes.

Supported by a multi-billion-dollar private equity fund, the business has sent out over a million reliable and competitive cash offers to prospective sellers from California to Maine. The time-tested Swift Homes process benefits not only homeowners, but also local families that are able to rent the properties purchased.

From the very beginning, the skilled and knowledgeable team at Swift Homes has been fully committed to assisting clients looking to sell their single-family houses due to a variety of life circumstances. One of the many reasons why sellers are so satisfied with the company is that Swift Homes masterfully guides them and keeps the process as straightforward, efficient, and hassle-free as possible.

The Swift Homes representatives have more than 20 years of combined industry experience, which enables them to provide a client experience and level of service that other companies cannot match.

Starting the Swift Homes process is as simple as answering a few questions about the property for sale. Typically, within 2 business days the company's team will furnish a proposal with their dependable top cash offer included. If the seller decides to accept the offer and sign the contract, Swift Homes has a 3rd party inspect the house first hand. As soon as the inspection is finished and the title has cleared, the company can complete the transaction and provide sellers with their funds.

"Sellers greatly appreciate the fact that Swift Homes keeps control of the process in their hands, and never pressures them to move forward on anything they are not fully comfortable with," added Fertig. "They are also grateful for the fact that they can sell their properties in as-is condition rather than needing to make extensive repairs or modifications." While Swift Homes will request a repair credit if the 3rd party inspection finds any excessive damage or other issues that must be fixed, homeowners can always opt out of the deal at that point or choose to handle these necessary repairs themselves.

With Swift Homes, homeowners also have the ability to set a closing date that works well for their particular situation and then change that closing date if need be. While closing time can vary from transaction to transaction, the process is usually complete within a few weeks to a few months. To help sellers get the most value out of the deal as possible, Swift Homes does not charge any fees for their services, and even handles customary closing costs (Title Search, Notary Fees, Recording Fees, and Deed Preparation/Attorney Fees).

About Swift Homes

Now operating in over 100 major real estate markets that encompass thousands of towns and cities throughout the country, Swift Homes has industry-leading programs that have helped improve the lives of countless homeowners and local families alike. Associated Colleges of Illinois Prepares for 70th Anniversary Celebration April 22

CHICAGO, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- Associated Colleges of Illinois (ACI) will mark its 70th year of service to Illinois colleges and universities, and their students, in a special fundraising event in Chicago April 22. ACI's 70th Anniversary Celebration (https://acifund.org/2022-celebration/), to be held at the University Club of Chicago, will bring together a variety of supporters in business and higher education, along with students from the organization's 26 member colleges and universities (https://acifund.org/member-college-directory/).

The purpose of the event is to celebrate ACI's 70 years' service to the state's higher education system, focusing on the liberal arts and sciences, and to raise funds for scholarships and programs that support students attending member institutions. Many of the students ACI supports today are first-generation college students.

"In 1952, 22 Illinois private colleges formed ACI with the purpose of working with industry to ensure diversified funding which would help them remain independent," said Mick Weltman, ACI executive director. "We're proud to say that after 70 years, 11 charter-member colleges and universities are still with ACI, and the funding purpose still remains." In its 70-year history, ACI has provided more than $70 million in scholarship support to member institutions, he added.

"Another purpose in forming ACI was that industry supporters would benefit from the flow of graduates from member schools entering the workforce," Weltman said. "We have continued that purpose by working schools and industry on multiple workforce development initiatives."

The 70th Anniversary Celebration will include a reception and dinner, followed by a program, featuring Tracie Morris, U.S. chief human resources officer and chief inclusion officer, BMO Financial Group. Students who benefitted from ACI scholarships will speak, including Carlos Robles, recently graduated from Saint Xavier University, Chicago, and Mia Pitts-Hope, Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois. The North Park University Jazz Ambassadors will provide live music, while other members have provided recorded music presentations. Former Chicago television anchor Rob Johnson, president, Rob Johnson Communications, and ACI board member, is master of ceremonies.

Earlier in the day, presidents from member colleges and universities will attend the ACI Presidents Forum, where they will discuss current legal issues in higher education, plus workforce recruitment and retention, and related challenges. The ACI Board of Trustees will meet in the organization's annual meeting, which includes presentation of the organization's annual business plan, budget for the upcoming fiscal year and other business items.

The number of 70th Anniversary Celebration sponsors this year reached a new high for the organization in recent years. They are Husch Blackwell, a Patron-level sponsor, and several Partner-level sponsors: Baker Tilly, Environmental Design International, Fiducient Advisors, Gallagher, Hogan Marren Babbo Rose, Ltd., Jackson Lewis, KRD Accountants, Consultants, Advisors, Robbins Schwartz, Sikich and TTX.

A limited number of tickets for the 70th Anniversary Celebration are still available through the event webpage: https://acifund.org/2022-celebration/.

About ACI:

Associated Colleges of Illinois (ACI) is a collaboration of 26 private, independent colleges and universities, representing more than 70,000 students. Established in 1952, ACI supports member colleges and universities by advancing independent liberal arts and sciences education and helping underserved students succeed in college, careers and life. The organization raises funds for scholarships, peer mentoring and emergency financial aid, and it provides member services such as professional development conferences and college-to-career seminars and events.

Aaron Ozee Distracts Ukrainian Children from the 2022 Russian Invasion with His International Bestselling Children’s Book ‘Regulus’

CHICAGO, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- Aaron Ozee, celebrity author of the international bestselling children's book, "Regulus" (ISBN: 978-1387010790), and ingenious director of the "Regulus" movie, has officiated the execution of a secret philanthropic mission to send physical or digital copies of "Regulus" (known as Operation Red) to Ukraine to distract any children facing the unimaginable horrors of the 2022 Russian Invasion.

Businesses spanning across numerous industries operating around the world, such as Microsoft and Coca-Cola, have made the choice to either temporarily or permanently suspend their efforts in Russia to protest against the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. Besides developing the plan for Operation Red, which has been set in motion for the duration of the 2022 Russian Invasion, Ozee has made the decision to endorse this monumental alliance of vendors by removing his collection of published works from the inventories of distinguished retailers across the country.

Despite launching Operation Red for the duration of the 2022 Russian Invasion, and banning the sale of his collection of published works in Russia, Ozee has found even more ways to contribute in donating royalties earned from his international bestselling children's book, "Regulus," earned from the global streaming of the "Regulus" movie, and earned from crowdfunding initiatives that celebrity shoutout networks such as Cameo have organized to raise money from the engagements their impressive library of talent have with fans.

Ozee was among the first wave of stars, and the first author, to ever join Cameo in 2017 when founded in Chicago, Illinois. Since becoming the first author to ever join Cameo, and having taken rank among the most followed celebrities on Cameo, it has enabled Ozee to converse with his fandom during periods of disease and crisis.

Ozee has never been someone who follows anything our society considers "normal," especially knowing that Ozee has always sought to break away from the expected so that he may achieve the unexpected. The former months have given birth to many new projects underneath the belt holstering a plethora of successful ventures that he carries with him everywhere he goes.

From partnering with BitClout, a decentralized social network, to open an initial coin offering (ICO) for his own cryptocurrency, Ozee Coin, to founding a dedicated merchandise storefront called Ozee Merch, with hundreds of assorted products featuring his likeness and that of his infamous rat king character, "Regulus." Each of these new projects have become another path for Ozee to donate royalties earned, just as Ozee has done with other fundraising efforts, to an organization devoted to helping those in Ukraine known as Choose Love.

Since the beginning of the 2022 Russian Invasion, and even more recently, Ozee has chosen to voice his momentous beliefs about the exacerbated combat in Ukraine. However, unlike any of his statements from earlier weeks, Ozee made a formal declaration of war against the President of Russia, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, and the Government of Russia.

"Nations fear the idea of emerging nuclear conflict, as they rightfully should, but more so the day when they will have to declare war against Russia. However, even with such an unthinkable scenario at the doorstep of every sovereign territory, it will be an option that is likely to never be considered. Our leaders may have made the conservative decision to rise above your foolish actions with the intention of avoiding ridiculous combat, but that does not mean that we as people of this world must watch as you exercise your command to kill. And, with that said, I, Dr. Aaron Ozee, and Regulus, King of the Mice, declare war against you, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, and the belligerent regime that you have constructed as your engine of death."

News about the 2022 Russian Invasion has fallen into the hands of just about everyone on this planet who chooses to remain apprised of current events, and with countless perspectives about the 2022 Russian Invasion pressuring the virtual universe, it can be somewhat troublesome for most people to disconnect truth from speculation. However, even with that being known, what Ozee mentioned in his formal declaration of war against Russia makes the stance of most of the world irrefutably clear as day. "You may have started this war, but you can be assured, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, that we are going to end it. Soon enough you, and your destructive military operations (as you have often described them), will be defused. Be ready for what comes next."

GPF Foundation Fellows Providing Critical Perspectives on Peer-to-Peer Outreach While Gaining Real-Time Experience in Harm Reduction Practices

LAKE FOREST, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- From educational program development to writing a peer-review article on the diagnosis and treatment of patients in medical emergencies due to the use of adulterated street drugs, GPF Foundation Fellows apply their academic knowledge and compassion to develop and deliver educational presentations for the GPF Foundation (GPFF).

Graduate level fellows are drawn from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, IL. Significantly, a number of Fellows are contributing original scholarly work for a 2022 issue of the medical journal "Disease-a-Month." Edited by Dr. Jerrold B. Leiken, GPF Foundation's 2021 Harm Reduction Award winner, "Disease-a-Month" provides current, practical information to clinicians, with an emphasis on patient evaluation, diagnosis and treatment. Nancy and Ross Friedman, two of the Foundation's founders, will write the forward to the article to contextualize GPFF's work by sharing the story of their son, Greg, who passed away during a psychotic break brought on by a one-time use of MDMA (street name Molly or Ecstasy).

The current cohort of GPFF Fellows include:

* Lexie Kessler (fourth year medical student) helped to create a research-based educational presentation on MDMA, adulteration and harm reduction. Recently, she was appointed to the Foundation Board of Directors.

* Alex Woods (fourth year medical student) says "it gives me great pleasure to see how far the Foundation has come from reviewing the literature to forming and revising our educational program, and now validating our program's utility through an [Institutional Review Board] IRB-approved study."

* Hamad Hussein (third year medical student) is part of the cohort working on a comprehensive educational program for high school and college students regarding the associated risks and dangers involved with MDMA and other recreational drug use.

* Dagmara Zajac (a third-year pharmacy student) who "wants to ensure that people are aware of the mechanism of action of street drugs and their adverse side effects."

* Marianne Chirica (seeking a Master of Science in Psychology) was impressed by the Foundation's harm reduction approach because the "more knowledge students have, the better they can make safe and smart choices."

* Taylor Macaulay (doctoral student of Clinical Psychology) was attracted to the Foundation because of her love for working with adolescents and young adults.

* Sam Vincent (doctoral student of Clinical Psychology) joined the Foundation to help educate others about recreational use of MDMA and conduct research on the Foundation's educational effectiveness.

* Alaa Hajeissa (medical student studying psychiatry) is dedicated to helping young people who may feel like they have no one to turn to as they struggle with substance use and other psychological issues.

* Jeremy Foreman (third year medical student) conducted research on chronic pain and opioid use as an undergrad at UCLA. He was drawn to the Foundation's non-judgmental, comprehensive approach to drug education.

* Hamed Shafiuddin (fourth year medical student) has helped his community by providing health education concerning sex and common drugs that allows students to make thoughtful decisions.

* Aayush Boddu (third year medical student) is fascinated with understanding the mechanisms of how recreational drugs affect an individual's biological, social, and psychological functioning.

Above and beyond all their accomplishments and ongoing contributions, especially noteworthy is the fellow's genuine enthusiasm about working collaboratively with the Foundation to save lives. This is evident in their already-expressed interest to continue working with the Foundation beyond the original timeframe of their Fellowship.

Applications for the 2022/2023 cohort are now being accepted. Applicants should go to https://www.gpffoundation.org/contact to request an application.

About The GPF Foundation

The GPF Foundation was founded in 2018 to save lives by supporting education, appropriate treatment and overall awareness of the dangers related to recreational drug use. In pursuit of this mission, GPFF focuses its work in two interrelated areas: 1) Educational Initiatives to mitigate the dangers of playing a modern day version of "Russian Roulette" with street drugs, including peer-to-peer outreach on the risks of MDMA (Ecstasy or Molly), particularly adulteration with other substances, and effective harm reduction strategies; and 2) Medical Initiatives that include development and dissemination of innovative clinical training tools for front line medical providers that address a critical "blind spot" in the accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of those experiencing adverse effects of psychostimulant use. LUI Releases New Album as Belated Valentine’s Gift to Fans

GRAYSLAKE, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- Today, Lui Salazar, known by his stage name as LUI, released his new art rock album, "Astronomical Ways to Die" under the Dead Internet Records label. The album can be found on most music streaming platforms, and plans for a limited physical release are underway.

LUI, a recording artist and music producer based near Chicago, says that his release didn't start out as a love album but became one.

"The album began a time in my life when I needed change and wanted to find love," LUI explains. "The songs started as quirky fantasies and desires. By about the second half of the project, I found love. Some of the lyrics became more direct and personal, but the songs retained my campy, weirdo vibe."

"Astronomical Ways to Die" is a belated Valentine's gift to LUI's fans. For the better part of a year, he has been obsessively recording and producing vocals, violins, flutes, guitars, and various folk instruments for the album.

LUI reflects on his release: "I always felt my last album, 'Truth Is Like a Seed,' was too preachy. This time, I wanted to be profound but in a fun way. It's a love album, not a philosophy book. Life doesn't suck, and woe isn't me. Happy belated Valentine's Day."

About Lui Salazar:

LUI is a multi-instrumentalist born and raised near Chicago. He is the co-founder and primary music producer for Dead Internet Records. His unconventional rock music combines eclectic instrumentation with a maximalist, wall-of-sound production style. He does everything, from song conception and production to mixing and mastering, at his home studio in Grayslake, Illinois.

Homeowners across Florida, Texas, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, South Carolina, Iowa, and elsewhere have discovered the numerous benefits of working with the cash home buyers at Swift Homes. First and foremost, Swift Homes' competitive cash offers are fundamentally sound as they're supported by a robust private equity fund. When transacting with Swift Homes, property owners also avoid needing to put in time and effort for repair work. The company consistently lives up to its name, closing deals in a seamless and expeditious manner.

Having bought 5,000+ homes from customers throughout the United States, Swift Homes has extensive experience working with individuals in a variety of situations. While some seek to sell their homes quickly due to unforeseen circumstances and emergencies, others aim to sell because of job relocation. No matter the reasons involved, Swift Homes' personnel are committed to assisting as best they can. The company greatly enjoys hearing customers tell them that cash received from the deals helped get them back on track financially.

Swift Homes has a signature process that is simple yet highly effective. Once homeowners send over information on their properties, the Swift Homes team supplies clear, personalized proposals with the competitive cash offers included. If the offer is agreeable to the owner, the next step is a convenient home inspection to fully assess the property firsthand. Afterwards, customers can decide on particular closing dates that work best for them. When the process has wrapped up, the happy customers get their cash payments as promised.

Swift Homes is considered an industry leader because they provide exceptional cash offers, superb customer service, and a refined process that moves things along smoothly. The private equity fund means that all cash offers are backed and legitimate. Those that select Swift Homes get peace of mind knowing that they do not need to worry about securing financing. The company also wants to impress upon prospective customers that control of the deal is squarely in their hands. No Swift Homes personnel will ever pressure homeowners to accept offers or move forward if they're not completely comfortable.

Sellers from Texas, Florida, Kentucky, Iowa, Illinois, South Carolina, Indiana, and other states across the nation can speak with a friendly Swift Homes representative by calling (877) 861-2466.
