The conclusion is clear: these studies, for the most part, fail to adequately ensure that seismic activities do not negatively impact species like the Loligo squid.

One of the main concerns is that these EIAs are financed by the very companies that benefit from them, compromising their independence. In Argentina, INIDEP (the main technical body for fisheries issues) has not had a leading role or the necessary resources to guide these studies. Furthermore, the resulting reports lack in situ evaluations, rely on outdated references, show methodological deficiencies, and fail to include prevention, mitigation, or compensation measures. In essence, they are seen as theoretical and superficial, designed more to fulfill bureaucratic requirements than to truly protect the marine ecosystem.

Internationally, similar concerns have been raised regarding seismic exploration. In countries such as Norway, South Africa, Mexico, and Namibia, environmental studies have been criticized for lacking scientific rigor and for ignoring cumulative effects on vulnerable species. The practice of hiring “tailored” consulting firms that produce predictable and accommodating reports has been documented in several jurisdictions. Some of these cases have even reached the courts, reflecting growing concern about the validity and usefulness of such studies.

In terms of direct impact on marine species, the effects of seismic waves are varied and severe: behavioral changes, disorientation, stress, reduced feeding and reproductive capacity. Specifically for Loligo squid, it has been demonstrated that they are especially sensitive to acoustic vibrations due to their nervous system and sensory organs (such as the statocyst). These disturbances can alter their distribution, reduce their feeding efficiency, interfere with spawning, and cause them to abandon breeding areas. The sustained decline in squid catches in the Falklands since seismic prospecting began in the region coincides with these observed changes, reinforcing the hypothesis of a causal link.

In addition to Loligo, other species such as hake, cod, and tuna have also shown adverse responses to seismic surveys: auditory organ damage, larval mortality, and changes in migratory patterns. Documented cases in Norway, the North Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, and Australia have reported reductions of up to 80% in some catches following seismic activities. Drops of up to 60% have also been observed in zooplankton, which forms the base of the marine food chain.

Dr. Lerena warns of a possible scenario of environmental fraud if oil exploration licenses continue to be approved without rigorous evaluations. He notes that in many cases, studies are conducted after the licensing of exploration areas, without first considering the presence of fishery resources, their migratory cycles, or the impact on coastal communities. This is not only a technical omission but also an ethical and legal failure. Precautionary measures are scarce or nonexistent, and although countries like Norway have begun to implement economic compensation for affected fishermen, these are considered insufficient.

From a responsible management perspective, the Agustina Lerena Foundation proposes a model of continuous and adaptive environmental assessment. Impact studies should not be a one-time “snapshot” but a dynamic process allowing real-time monitoring and corrective action. This is especially important for migratory species whose distribution and behavior vary in response to multiple factors. Harmonization between oil development and fishing activity is possible, but it requires political will, scientific resources, and an integrated approach.

The Norwegian model, which includes compensation and coordination between industries, can serve as a reference. Though imperfect, it provides a starting point for understanding that no productive activity should be developed at the expense of another — especially when dealing with natural resources that support regional economies, employment, and food sovereignty.

In this regard, the Agustina Lerena Foundation does not oppose offshore oil activity, but demands that it be carried out under strict sustainability standards. The organization has already begun working to ensure that all companies operating in the Southwest Atlantic respect existing environmental laws, both national and international. This year, the UN International Day Against Drug Abuse theme is "The evidence is clear: Invest in prevention," a motto the Drug-Free Czech Cyclo-Run volunteers are deeply committed to. They invest their time, energy and passion into reaching youth with the Truth About Drugs fact-based drug education initiative. In each town, they introduce mayors, educators and community leaders to the campaign. They then deliver drug education to the local youth, who run with the cyclists as they take off for the next stop in their nationwide campaign.

Bechyně says the need for drug education and prevention has never been more urgent. "There are more and more drugs on the market, and they have become accessible to younger and younger children," he says. "We used to give lectures to sixth and seventh graders, but today we begin two years earlier. We are finding some start using drugs as early as age ten." Athlete Uses His Own Life as an Example to Help Kids Decide to Live Drug-Free

PRAGUE, Czech Republic /ScoopCloud/ -- Lukáš Bechyně is no stranger to challenging situations. At 19, he qualified to compete as a pole vaulter in the International Amateur Athletic Federation World Championships. But after an injury sidelined him, he began to experiment with drugs, and that nearly defeated him. Now, as executive director of the Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life Association of the Czech Republic, an affiliate of Foundation for a Drug-Free World, he is engaged in another kind of competition - reaching Czech youth with the truth about drugs before they begin to experiment with harmful substances.

He began with an occasional drink, but soon segued into marijuana. By the time his injury healed, weekend partying had become what he looked forward to most in life. At his first techno party, a friend offered him ecstasy. Then another suggested he try crystal meth.

"It was a trap," he says.

Drugs assumed greater and greater importance in his life. He didn't like school, argued often with his parents and girlfriend, started experiencing mood swings and developed health problems, including liver pain.

"I decided to quit using drugs after a party where I combined several types of drugs," he says. "I couldn't control my body. I couldn't see anything. I was feeling terribly sick and was literally dying. I felt like it was really over and I wanted to die."

The next day, Bechyně stopped cold turkey. Thanks to his years in competitive sports, he was able to withdraw from drugs by simply forcing himself to endure the physical discomfort, fatigue and pain to achieve the goal.

"My girlfriend and I both decided to stop using drugs and going to parties. It wasn't easy," he says. "Most of our friends were into parties and drugs at that time. I struggled for about a year. My friends would offer me drugs for free. But I'd made up my mind."

Some time later, he was introduced to the Say No to Drugs - Say Yes to Life Association of the Czech Republic by an athlete who was cycling and running through the country to reach kids with the truth about drugs. This sports initiative was called the Cyclo-Run for a Drug-Free Czech Republic.

"I decided to support it," he says. "I remember the first Truth About Drugs lecture I attended on the Cyclo-Run, watching the public service announcements through my own tears and learning many important things about drugs that I'd never known."

At the lecture, Bechyně realized so much about himself: Why he took drugs, what they did to him, how drugs really work.

"Many things in my past drug life suddenly made sense to me," he says. "I decided to be a lecturer because I wanted to help children decide not to take drugs, and I could use my own bad experiences for something good."

He attended a Say No to Drugs training seminar for police, social workers, and lecturers and delivered his first anti-drug lecture at the elementary school in the town where he grew up.

"Since I started helping and delivering drug education, my life has turned 180 degrees in the right direction," he says. "I have personally trained more than 25,000 children."

In 2012 Bechyně agreed to be executive director of Say No to Drugs-Say Yes to Life Czech Republic.

"I've done many TV and radio shows, I have the Drug-Free World logo on my athletic uniforms when I perform pole vault exhibitions in town squares. I deliver lectures, organize events, and I lead our Cyclo-Run team along with my colleague Vlastimil Špalek, my wife and other key players. My purpose is very simple: to help children with drug education to allow them to make the informed decision not to take drugs. My goal is to have drug-free kids in a drug-free society."

The Church of Scientology Mission of São Paulo is coordinating Volunteer Minister activities in the region. In partnership with the Boy Scouts and civil firefighters, who have trained in Volunteer Minister technology, they are organizing and distributing supplies and providing Scientology assists to those devastated by the crisis. Assists are techniques developed by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard to provide relief from the mental and spiritual factors of trauma and stress, making it possible for victims of disaster to come to terms with their circumstances and take effective action to deal with them.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers international headquarters in Los Angeles flew a team of the legendary Los Topos disaster response specialists from Mexico to Brazil. Los Topos, who have partnered with the Volunteer Ministers on numerous disasters since 2010, is working with Brazilian military and civil defense to search for and rescue victims trapped in their homes and provide needed first aid.

In Mathias Velho, one of the hardest-hit areas, Volunteer Ministers are working alongside local firefighters, organizing donated supplies, food and water, and delivering them by boat to those stranded in flooded areas.

Scoutmaster Marcos Antonio Correia Santos, who is working with the Volunteer Ministers team, describes the region as "a war zone. People don't know what to do," he says. "They are afraid - you can see the fear on their faces."

"The suffering and pain is immense," says a Volunteer Minister who flew in from Guatemala to join the disaster response team. "They are going to need a lot of help."

Brazilian Gangsta Rapper, Once an Addict and Drug Dealer, Now Uses His Music and Passion to Reach Kids With the Truth About Drugs

CUIABA, Brazil /ScoopCloud/ -- Growing up surrounded by gangs, crime, and violence that plagued his neighborhood in Cuiabá, Brazil, in the '80s and '90s, Diogenes Luiz de Oliveira tried to escape from that life by using and trafficking drugs. Now, he uses his own story and the drug education materials of Foundation for a Drug-Free World to help keep kids out of the trap that consumed and nearly destroyed his life.

Oliveira and his brother were raised by a single mother. While she always put food on the table, childhood was a meager affair. "I remember going through the garbage in the richest neighborhoods to look for toys for my brother and me," he says.

He began using marijuana at 14. Then his uncle introduced him to cocaine. He would come home at dawn after a weekend of nonstop alcohol and cocaine abuse, and his mother would be waiting up for him. She tried to get through to him about what he was doing with his life. But to no avail.

At first, he confined himself to selling marijuana, but he soon graduated to trafficking cocaine and crack. And because he was selling, he always had access to drugs. He started out using cocaine twice a week, but it rapidly accelerated to a constant activity.

Oliveira began singing gangsta rap. "The songs I wrote spoke about my daily life on the streets and the violence on the outskirts of the city," he says. "I extolled crime and gangs in the lyrics and cursed the police." He and his group began opening major shows. It was a dream come true. With fame came increased police scrutiny, and in 2003, he was arrested and served time for drug trafficking and theft. But if prison was supposed to teach him a lesson, it failed. It was there that he began using crack.

"When I got out of prison, addicted to crack, with no future, and with only the streets to shelter me, I plunged headlong into the wrong things," he says.

As fate would have it, his mother had remarried, and her husband was a police officer. When she finally convinced him to go into rehab, it was her husband, a cop, who paid for it.

"It was the best decision I ever made," he says. "Life teaches you in surprising ways. I learned there are good cops and bad cops."

Olveira still raps. But his songs now focus on staying clean. He uses his music to speak his truth: that crime and drugs are not the way to solve the problems in life. He began visiting schools to share his story and to help kids make the decision to live drug-free.

In 2018, he teamed up with Mundo Sem Drogas, the Brazilian chapter of the Foundation for a Drug-Free World, and has used its Truth About Drugs booklets and videos to educate some 40,000 local children.

"My dream is to continue rapping and bringing my story to schools to reach them with the truth about drugs," he says.

Foundation for a Drug-Free World is a nonprofit public benefit corporation that empowers youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free. Through the support of Scientology Churches and Scientologists, the Foundation offers its drug education resources free of charge to anyone wishing to use them to educate others about drugs. Quito Welcomes and Celebrates the Grand Opening of the Ideal Church of Scientology Mission in the City that Stands at the ‘Center of the World’

The celebration began with a performance by the Jacchigua Ballet Folklórico Nacional del Ecuador of traditional Ecuadorian dances and a performance of "I Dare to Be Happy" and "Dance My Life" by popular singer-songwriter Fausto Miño.

Mission Director Ms. Cristina Betancourt welcomed distinguished guests and Scientologists who traveled from as far away as Colombia and Costa Rica to join the Quito congregation in the dedication of their new Mission.

"When a person is more able, more confident, more in communication with their environment," said Ms. Betancourt, "that person can create a better future and better conditions for the community. This is what every Ecuadorian is striving to accomplish in the quest for the best life possible for themselves, their family and society. Our Mission is here to serve the individual and the entire community, and we are honored to work shoulder-to-shoulder with like-minded game changers to uplift every neighborhood."

She then introduced community leaders who partner with the Mission in its goal to uplift neighborhoods throughout Ecuador.

Guest speakers at the celebration were Commanding Inspector of the Metropolitan Police of Quito's Eugenio Espejo District, Inspector Eduardo Ruiz Gavilanes; Pastor Patricio Pena of the Anglican Church; Colonel José Vargas Alzamorra, Director of Education of the National Police of Ecuador; and Dr. Marcelo Montenegro.

Inspector Gavilanes described why he and his officers adopted the booklet The Way to Happiness, the common-sense moral code written by L. Ron Hubbard, to promote a culture of peace in the Metropolitan District of Quito.

"Your humanitarian programs make it possible to live in a better environment where everyone respects one another because they follow the precepts for successful coexistence," he said.

"The Ideal Mission of Quito is a catalyst for change, to bring more order and sanity to today's society," said Pastor Pena. "During the pandemic, my congregation, like that of all other churches, was hit hard by the lockdown. My parishioners were unable to come to the church and participate in the sacraments of their religion in person." He described how the Mission's Scientology Volunteer Ministers took on sanitizing his church making it possible for the congregation to attend church in safety. "I see this Ideal Mission as a promise of empowerment. Every one of us has the potential to be agents of change in people's lives and in their communities. This Ideal Mission is an invitation to all to be architects of a better world, a better society."

Colonel Vargas Aazmorra has worked with fellow National Police officers reaching thousands of people with the Truth About Drugs, the drug education campaign supported by the Church of Scientology. "More than 20,000 students nationwide have benefitted from material that empowers them to learn the truth about drugs," he said. "I would like to take a moment to honor and recognize L. Ron Hubbard, a visionary and Founder of Dianetics and Scientology. National Police Director of Education Montenegro described how he learned of United for Human Rights, an educational campaign supported by the Church, and he worked on a plan to strengthen the values of police officers using these materials at hundreds of conferences, each attended by thousands of police officers. These conferences not only strengthened the knowledge of human rights but also its practice as reflected by the actions of the officers in the community, reducing violence and crime by as much as 90 percent.

Providing Help in Turkey to the Survivors of the February 6 Earthquake

It is estimated the earthquake killed 6,000 in Syria and 46,000 in Turkey. And hundreds of thousands have been left homeless. UNICEF describes the needs as "huge," stating "continued support is vital."

As aid pours into Turkey, the Scientology volunteers are primarily focused on seeing that supplies get into the hands of those most in need.

"We arrived in a village and came across a family of 20 living in tents pitched outside their home that was destroyed by the earthquake," says one of the volunteers. "They had no supplies left." The volunteers left them with food kits, each containing 45 pounds of food-enough to hold them over for several weeks.

The volunteers are providing any help that is needed but are primarily distributing food, water, winter clothing, bedding and sanitary supplies.

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers headquarters in Los Angeles has put out a call for experienced disaster response specialists who can join them in providing help. Scientology Volunteer Ministers: Helping One Person Can Change the World

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa /ScoopCloud/ -- Growing up in Mitchel Plain wasn't easy, according to Luce-Lynn Fondling, a life skills coach and Scientology Volunteer Minister who works with community leaders, educators and both bullies and victims in schools. Drug dealers dominate her neighborhood. "There is violence everywhere," she says.

Mitchel Plain was built in the 1970s for people forcibly removed by the apartheid South African government from areas set aside for "whites only." It is notorious for gang violence, substance abuse and poverty.

"I was always fighting," she says in a video on the Volunteer Ministers South Africa YouTube channel. "I was always in fights. I was always, 'you can't tell me anything.'"

Then she met a Scientology volunteer and what the volunteer told Luce seemed to make sense.

"How do you know all these things?" Luce asked her, and the volunteer introduced her to the Tools for Life-a series of 19 free online courses.

"When I did the courses, I become a different person," says Luce. "I know that I've changed because when people attack me, I'm like 'Hold on. I'm not that Luce anymore.' And then they will approach me and say, 'Look here, what happened to you? Why are you so changed?' And then I share the 19 Tools."

Working in coordination with Scientology Volunteer Ministers African headquarters at Castle Kyalami in Johannesburg, Luce delivers seminars to community leaders to empower them so they know what to do.

A community activist who took part in the training says Luce's Tools for Life seminars are "equipping those in my community so we can create a positive ripple effect. The goal is to break the cycle of poverty."

"Sometimes children are acting out, but you don't know why they are acting out," says the principal of an early childhood development center who attended Luce's seminar. "Their parents might be on drugs or they're using alcohol .... The Tools show us how to deal with these people."

"It was a blessing for me to be part of this," says an intern assistant at the same center.

"For me, change is possible," says a ward committee member who completed the 19 courses. "It just depends on what I utilize [from these courses]."

Luce says, "these Tools for Life really changed my life because I am now able to create the change I want to see around me without waiting for anyone. I can see it made a difference in my life. And I'm sure it's going to make a difference in everybody's life."

Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard developed the Tools for Life for the training of Scientology Volunteer Ministers, which is a religious social service sponsored by the Church of Scientology International.

Mr. Hubbard described the Volunteer Minister as "a person who helps his fellow man on a volunteer basis by restoring purpose, truth and spiritual values to the lives of others." Their creed: "A Volunteer Minister does not shut his eyes to the pain, evil and injustice of existence. Rather, he is trained to handle these things and help others achieve relief from them and new personal strength as well."

Their motto is, no matter the circumstances, "Something can be done about it."

Castle Kyalami serves as a home for the community and a nexus for all who share the goal of bettering the lives of individuals and strengthening communities across the region, nation, and all of Africa. Innovative Process Recycles All Types of Plastic Waste Utilizing Profitable Micro-Recycling Centers

NAIROBI, Kenya /ScoopCloud/ -- Today, Nairobi non-profit Slums Going Green and Clean (SGGC) announced the success of its open-source Waste Free in '23 initiative utilizing profitable micro-recycling centers. In January 2023, two centers recycled five tons of mixed plastic waste with plans to increase their recycling capacity to 15 centers and 75 tons of waste per month by the end of 2023.

"To change the plastics situation in Kenya, we need an all-in approach. Solutions on the ground -- and from the ground in the informal sector need to find a place in the value chain for good, just as much as the players do. We must rethink product design to ensure recyclability, and always keep materials in the loop," says Karin Boomsma, Project Lead at the Kenya Plastics Pact (KPP).

"At the end of 2022, we recovered, recycled, and repurposed all common plastic types collected from the Nairobi River and Kibera at our first micro-recycling center," said Brian Nyabuti, founder of SGGC. "Nairobi, like the rest of the world, was recycling less than 10% of plastic waste and disposing of the rest in landfills, communities, and the environment," referring to the 2021 report from the UN Environmental Programme. "With these innovations we can turn any type of plastic, including food wrappers and packaging, into products like bins, chairs, roof panels and fence posts."

A cadre of engineers, scientists, and recyclers collaborated with the Waste Free in '23 initiative to solve trash and recycling problems in low-income communities. The team adapted common recycling equipment used at major recycling centers to create a micro-recycling center in Kibera, an informal settlement in Nairobi. Equipment for a micro-recycling center costs $2000 and consists of a shredder, plastic slicer, heat press, and molds that can process up to 200 kilograms of waste per day. The Kibera micro-recycling center was funded through crowdsourcing.

The center inserts soft plastics unwashed and unsorted into a heat press. In just 10 minutes, the plastic is bonded into components used to create products that are sold to the local community. The small amount of plastic that should not be heated can be shredded and added to concrete. The micro-recycling center is staffed with four workers who earn a living wage.

"We are turning trash into treasure," said Nyabuti. "We no longer have to dump,burn,or truck our plastic waste to landfills. And with the equipment designed to be low cost and to be built anywhere in the world, thousands of communities can join Kibera in becoming Waste Free in '23."

AI for Good uses ChatGPT to address UN Challenges, Solve Enterprise Problems

At a recent ceremony at Kyalami Castle in Midrand, South Africa, 700 educators completed the Scientology Tools for Life courses. Sandile Hlayisi, chairperson of the South African Scientology Volunteer Ministers, who conducted these training sessions, spoke to the graduates about the new skills they have gained and that they now have the potential of fulfilling the mandate of the late Nelson Mandela. "Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom."

His views were echoed by graduates.

"They have equipped us with the tools to be councilors for our people," said Rev. Phampha William Ramodike, a deputy principal from Limpopo. "They have given us the tools to get our kids off drugs. They have given us the tools to solve conflicts, mend marriages and restore hope to our country. All of us in this auditorium are now capable of great deeds and we will achieve them by applying what we learned."

A community development leader from the City of Tshwane said, "I am so proud to be part of this program. It has really impacted me and my way of operating."

A senior executive from Family Tree Holdings, a black-owned and managed investment holdings company, spoke of the profound change this program had on her outlook. "It taught me to be selfless and do all I can to help society because it is the right thing to do."

But the value of any tool is in its use. And this is demonstrated by the successful application by graduates of the Volunteer Ministers program.

Scientology Assist Team Brings Help to Their Country in Its Time of Need

KARACHI, Pakistan /ScoopCloud/ -- In a country as prone to cataclysm and disaster as Pakistan, some might say there is not much you can count on except bad news. But Perwaiz Hasan and the Scientology Assist Team are the exception to that rule.

The team has been providing relief in the wake of disasters for more than a decade and responded immediately to this year's floods that left a third of the country under water.

They have visited towns rarely mentioned in Western news: In Bhittai and Qasimabad, they brought food and clothing to some 500 people stranded by the flood. They brought relief to the towns of Zhob, Dadu, and Dera Ismail Khan. They have traveled across the provinces of Punjab and Sindh.

"We really felt honored to visit the most neglected province, Baluchistan," said Perwaiz Hasan, who leads Pakistan's Scientology Assist Team. The team was warned that the area was unsafe. "But it wasn't true," said Hasan. "The people in that area were very friendly and welcoming, and they were really happy we came."

With flooding comes a host of medical complications.

"Standing water is an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes, which are currently spreading malaria and dengue fever in Pakistan," said Richard Brennan, regional emergency director for the eastern Mediterranean region at the World Health Organization. "Respiratory illnesses are rampant. And toxic floodwaters have caused skin infections and scabies."

The Scientology Assist Team includes a corps of medical doctors and nurses who provide medical camps to care for those in need.

After addressing immediate physical needs, the Pakistan Volunteer Assist Team provides Scientology assists-techniques developed by humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard that address the emotional and spiritual factors in stress and trauma. And they share the Scientology Tools for Life, a series of online films and courses that provide skills to help people overcome difficulties and better their circumstances.

For more than a decade, Perwaiz Hasan and his team have been responding to disasters in Pakistan including monsoon-driven floods and the 7.5 earthquake of 2015. His team members have also deployed to disasters abroad, including the Nepal earthquake of 2015 and a tsunami and volcano in Jakarta in 2018.

In 2012, the International Association of Scientologists awarded Hasan the Freedom Medal, presented to Scientologists for stellar accomplishments in forwarding the dignity and freedom of all humankind, thus furthering the Church's humanitarian objectives.

Honoring a Scientology Volunteer Minister Who is Changing the Face of Uganda

WANGA PARISH, Uganda /ScoopCloud/ -- International Volunteer Day December 5 was set aside by the United Nations to celebrate positive change through volunteerism. And a stellar example of the change a team of volunteers can achieve is the work of the Volunteer Ministers of Wanga Parish, Uganda, says the Church of Scientology International.

Martin Wamatsu had a dream: to transform Wanga Parish, the village of his birth, from a community struggling in poverty to one that is self-sustaining and providing a decent future for all who live there.

When he was introduced to the Scientology Volunteer Ministers' Tools for Life Courses online, he realized this was the technology he needed to turn his dream into reality. Understanding the basics of communication, organization and planning, he now knew how to set goals and accomplish them. Wamatsu and his family returned to the village, met with village elders, and gained their agreement to carry out a series of programs to achieve this goal.

Wamatsu reached out to a Scientologist over the internet who was as excited about his ideas and plans as he was, and she took on raising funds for the project.

As a school principal, one of Wamatsu's first projects was to provide a future for 70 destitute village orphans. He and his team opened an orphanage, and these children are now all in school. The children now have the energy to learn and take part in orphanage projects. And once the children harvest their first crop of sweet potatoes and rice, the orphanage will be self-sustaining.

Another 25 destitute village children have received the same kind of help and have joined their orphaned friends in school. Funds are nearly in place for the remaining 45 village children to also join them at the school, which will accomplish one of Wamatsu's goals: universal education for all village children.

During the 84-week COVID lockdown in Uganda, most people had to resort to eating their seeds to survive. With the help of his online patron, Wamatsu has now seen to the purchase of seeds, and the village has planted 15 acres of rice, and fields of sweet potatoes and cassava. Once these harvests are gathered, they will have enough to feed the village, plant for the next season and sell or trade produce to nearby villages.

The village and six other villages nearby now have pure, clean drinking water. And they are raising funds to open a medical clinic with a nurse who is also a trained Scientology Volunteer Minister.

Wamatsu has trained his entire village and the leaders of 24 nearby villages on the Scientology Tools for Life. And they used these tools to organize themselves to work as a team to accomplish targets. They are well on their way to making Wanga a sustainable village that can serve as a model where nearby leaders can gain practical experience and return to their villages to create a sustainable region and beyond.

Curious About Scientology, Hundreds Learned More on Copenhagen Culture Night

Culture Night in Copenhagen is a unique festival where the Church of Scientology of Denmark is among the more than 250 museums, theatres, libraries, churches, ministries and parks throughout the city that welcome the public to experience the many aspects of the city's cultural life. In launching the Scientology television network in 2018, Scientology ecclesiastical leader Mr. David Miscavige said, "There's a lot of talk about us. And we get it. People are curious. Well, we want to answer your questions, because, frankly, whatever you've heard, if you haven't heard it from us, I can assure you, we are not what you expect," a statement confirmed over and over again that October night.

Visitors were encouraged to ask questions, which were answered by the tour guides and the video presentations in the Scientology Information Center just off the entrance to the Church.

It was as much fun for the hosts as for those touring.

"I must have toured 100 people," said one of the volunteers, "and they all asked relevant and interested questions." Comments like "I would really like to know what Scientology actually is," were frequent.

One of the most popular features was the video display on the life and work of Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard. Another was the demonstration of the E-meter, a device used by a Scientology minister or a Scientology minister-in-training to help the individual locate and confront areas of spiritual upset. People lined up for a demonstration of how the meter worked and were often amazed at how accurately it pinpointed areas that were troubling them in life.

The Church of Scientology Denmark opened its doors in 2017, when Mr. Miscavige dedicated the building in the heart of the city.
