Washing Stations, Septic Services a Priority for Homes and Businesses Entering Michigan’s New Normal

LAKE ORION, Mich. /ScoopCloud/ -- As Michigan envisions a day soon when coming out of the COVID-19 crisis means seeking normal in a climate that is anything but, there will be a number of services and businesses in very high demand. But the crisis has thrust to the forefront some companies, like Turner Sanitation, whose role in our communities have been enhanced by the needs we'll have in Michigan's new normal.

"Sanitation is going to be a very big thing coming out of this. I think this state is going to be asking not only how are we going to stay clean but will allow us to come up with new protocols," said Turner Sanitation owner and entrepreneur Darin Gross, who purchased the family-owned company in January. "What we offer now is EPA environmentally-and solutions on a very high level."

Two of the demands coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic has already meant Turner Sanitation is trying to fast track new hand washing stations, because the entirety of Turner's inventory has been rented by Amazon in Shelby Township.

Another of Turner's offerings, septic services, are already seeing a large increase in home visits after months of families being home together during the state's stay-at-home order. The company has made numerous emergency service visits to fix potentially limit-pushing home septic tanks, which were not built for the amount of use they've seen.

The company's best-known offering, portable restrooms, is also expected to see increased demand because of Turner Sanitation's dedication to their cleanliness.

"I heard a lot of companies don't clean enough. That's certainly not our issue," said Gross. "I can definitely see, however, an increase in how many times per week we will be replenishing hand washing liquid and cleaning the facilities, probably two or three times more than we have in the past." As for reluctance by some to use portable facilities post-COVID-19, Gross says when it comes to locations Turner places its restrooms, people don't really have a choice such at places like outdoor events, festivals and recreational parks.

"We're a company with a great reputation and have employees who have been here for more than 20 years," said Gross. "I'm very proud to have the quality of people here at Turner and am confident we will continue to provide the high-quality services needed by our community."

First female Brazilian pilot to race FlatOutFriday

She is the founder of #ElasPilotam (translates to #SheRides), a movement that prioritizes sorority and empowers women, who already are involved in this universe, to take leadership roles in their bikes and lives. During FlatOutFriday, she will also be the only South American woman to take part in the races in Milwaukee.

In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Bruna will race in place of professional pilot Melissa Paris, who, at the time, will be in Daytona, Florida. As the surprised from the invitation sets in, Bruna is wasting no time to get ready. Back in Curitiba (PR), Brazil, she is training with other eight pilots, from team FlatTrack BR.

"I've been involved with the Flat Track team in Brazil for years, but I've never really raced. The FlatOutFriday race will be my first big competition. To be standing alongside women who are so empowered in this segment is real pressure. I feel grateful for being able to represent Brazilian women, and I hope to do it with honors," says Bruna. This is the second year the Brazilian group come to FlatOutFriday.

BREAKING BARRIERS: beyond the track

Bruna's participation at FlatOutFriday is a significant milestone because it also shows the industry's recognition of the women's involvement in the Brazilian bike scene. By taking part in a program such as BTR's, she increases awareness about all the opportunities for women in the two wheels universe, from being a rider to taking active roles in fabrication and market decisions.

GMAR and Michigan State Police Trooper School Come Together to Sponsor Medical Service Dog

Jury Acquits Ex-Judge in DNR Trespass Case

AITKIN, Minn. /ScoopCloud/ -- Following a three-day trial, an Aitkin County jury recently found retired district court judge Robert Graff not guilty of trespassing in the DNR Savanna State Forest in Aitkin County, the Peterson Law Office announced today.

The Aitkin County Attorney had charged Graff with driving a pickup truck from his home near McGregor, Minnesota, across state forest land to the shore of Bass Lake. The criminal complaint asserted that vehicle traffic was illegal at that place in the forest.

The crime alleged carried possible jail up to 90 days, a fine of up to $1,000 and three times the value of damages to the land payable to DNR.

The evidence submitted against Graff was a photograph taken by a mechanical trail camera posted by a DNR conservation officer. The officer testified at trial that she could identify Mr. Graff on the trail camera photo to be the person behind the wheel of the pickup truck.

Graff was represented by Bloomington attorney Bill Peterson who argued that the game warden did not take the picture so her testimony was merely her interpretation of the photograph which the jury could determine for itself.

"Trail cameras often snap random pictures that are blurred, as here, so positive identification claimed by DNR is not possible," said Peterson. The jury agreed and acquitted Graff who did not need to testify.

"We are gratified that the jury concluded that the trail camera photograph did not prove what DNR alleged and that it exonerated Judge Graff," said Peterson.

The jury verdict ends the prosecution and the state is barred from appealing the jury's decision.

Following a three-day trial, an Aitkin County jury recently found retired district court judge Robert Graff not guilty of trespassing in the DNR Savanna State Forest in Aitkin County, the Peterson Law Office announced today.
