The thousands of survivors who had just lost loved ones and millions of dollars in property were then forced into internment camps.

With no one ever held accountable for the horror they endured, these traumatized American citizens had to figure out how to survive in a country that attacked them with military force and threatened their lives if they ever attempted to tell their stories. For 102 years, the remaining survivors patiently waited to be acknowledged, heard, and restored.

Wiltgen started his own residential design firm at 18 and never looked back-even when he could not see. "After all, who wants to hire a blind designer?" he laughs.

Wiltgen fought diabetic retinopathy in his early 20's for four years and won. A year later he was told he needed a kidney transplant. Performed at the University of Minnesota, it is now 36 years post-surgery and still functioning! "The surgeons told me it would last 12-15 years but they were mistaken," said Wiltgen.

In his 30's he developed heart disease, fought cellulitis, osteomyelitis, a below the knee amputation, pulmonary fibrosis and skin cancer.

Wiltgen also survived COVID in April of 2020 when no one knew anything about it. "The doctors would not come into my room. Instead, they phoned me on the hospital's phone to find out how I was doing," he said.

Nonetheless, his memoir includes larger-than life tales that are extremely entertaining. In 1988, Dr. Herbert T. Schwarz published a study where he argued - many scholars later agreed - that he had sufficient evidence proving that the blond muse was already at Picasso's side at age fifteen in early 1925, which is two full years before the date given by Picasso who always claimed having met Marie-Thérèse on the streets of Paris in January 1927 when she was seventeen and a half. But then, this is also the man who once said "you must not always believe what I say; questions tempt you to tell lies, especially when there is no answer."

Dr. Schwarz' intrusion into the "Marie-Thérèse mystery," if on the right track, was still miles away from the truth; the evidence now shows that Picasso had in fact erased all of Marie-Thérèse's early-life narrative, starting with her family origins; because for anyone to know the identity of her true parents was also inevitably to know that Picasso had to know this young girl right from the crib.

This book tries to resuscitate some of Marie-Thérèse's cancelled narrative, as it also tries to unveil the roots and the mechanism of an old disinformation campaign, complete with cover-up; formerly under Picasso's strict control - later, under that of his heirs after he passed away in 1973 -, the scholars and the museums too have known about this hoax for well over a decade now.

About Jerry Elman

Jerry Elman was born in 1954 in Syracuse, NY. He has lived in the Rochester, NY area for almost fifty years. Both his parents were Holocaust survivors. He is a first-generation American. Children of Holocaust survivors have been referred to as second-generation survivors. The emotional impact on the parents carried over to their children. The Holocaust was never discussed. Like other second-generation survivors, Jerry lived most of his life not knowing his parents' stories or his European roots and family. He did not understand his emotional issues as he grew up.

His father passed away in 1989, his mother in 2004. Jerry retired in 2021. The desire to know his parent's story kept nagging at him.
