Tipp City Schools partners with Energy Optimizers, USA, on a suite of strategic investments in school improvements

TIPP CITY, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- Tipp City Schools will make strategic investments in LT Ball Intermediate School, Tippecanoe Middle School and Tippecanoe High School that are expected to save more than $73,000 annually through a partnership with Tipp City-based Energy Optimizers, USA.

The comprehensive improvements are designed to enhance energy efficiency, prolong the life of the buildings and improve safety.

Starting in June, Energy Optimizers, USA, will:

* Retrofit the high school and middle school lighting with LED systems
* Renovate the HVAC systems and building automation systems at the middle school
* Install a building automation system at the intermediate school
* Replace electrical switchgear at the middle school
* Replace the chiller and overhaul of the boilers and domestic water heater at the intermediate school
* Replace the doors and windows at the middle and intermediate schools
* Upgrade the fire alarms at the middle and intermediate schools

The upgrade to LED lighting is expected to save the district more than $61,000 in electricity use and more than $12,000 in maintenance costs. LED lighting uses an average of 60 percent less energy and lasts five times longer than the replaced systems. In addition to offering immediate savings, LED lighting will result in better-lit environments that are more conducive to learning. The lighting also does not have the hum and flicker associated with fluorescent lighting, making it an ideal system for special needs classrooms.

Tippecanoe Middle School students have also invested in improving the district's sustainability practices. The students have worked with community partners to evaluate and improve the district's water and energy use, waste, and student well-being. Griggs, an Oregon-based attorney, is a bit shell-shocked by his sudden transition into a creative career, admitting he applied for the coaching program solely so he could find catharsis through unearthing his most challenging experiences.

"After more than forty years of keeping dark secrets buried deep within me, I had two choices," Griggs says. "I could either lose my sanity and likely die an active addict, or I could release them. Fortunately, I was guided to release them."

David admits that selecting Griggs for the meeting with Hurley and Fuhr was a bit like Sophie's Choice. "I somehow keep ending up with the most talented students I could have imagined," she says. "They're all survivors who have incredible stories to tell. But ultimately, I felt I had no choice but to help the world discover this book."

Fort Recovery Local Schools expects to net a $17,000 utility rebate through energy savings project completed with Energy Optimizers, USA

TIPP CITY, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- Energy Optimizers, USA, has completed an aggressive energy savings project that is expected to save Fort Recovery Local Schools more than $30,000 a year in utility costs.

The district also anticipates receiving a Dayton Power& Light rebate of more than $17,000 because of the work.

Beginning in late winter, Energy Optimizers USA, retrofitted the district's interior lighting with LED systems, replaced the district's boilers and boiler controls with state-of-the-art energy efficient equipment, and made energy-saving enhancements to its kitchens and transportation garage. The energy savings attained will be equivalent to preserving 81 acres of trees or removing 53 cars from the road.

Most of the work was funded through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission's House Bill 264 program, enabling the district to make these cost-cutting improvements at no expense to taxpayers while ensuring the guaranteed savings of the project are met or exceeded.

Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Local Schools’ utility savings more than $6,000 above projections through a partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA

TIPP CITY, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- Two years after completing a comprehensive energy savings project with Energy Optimizers, USA, Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Local Schools has exceeded projected savings on its utility bills by more than $6,000 annually.

In 2016, the district executed a $1.8 million project to transition all lighting to LED systems and to make energy-saving upgrades to its boilers, chillers, HVAC temperature controls, and kitchen equipment. At the time, the district was the first in Ohio to upgrade all lighting systems to LED.

The district expected to save just over $134,000 a year on electrical and gas utilities, but actual savings have exceeded $140,00 annually. The savings are normalized or adjusted to account for outliers in weather conditions and utility rates.

"Fiscal conservation is significant in our district, which is why we partnered with Energy Optimizers, USA, and invested in cost-effective, energy-saving solutions throughout our district," said Jeff Lewis, Interim Superintendent. "Clearly those investments are paying off as substantial savings to our bottom line."

TIPP CITY, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- Just one year after completing a project to reduce its energy consumption, Monroe Local Schools has surpassed projections for cost savings, Energy Optimizers, USA found.

In 2016, the district engaged Energy Optimizers, USA, to replace all of its interior and exterior lighting with LED systems. The project also included the installation of HVAC controls and a high-efficiency boiler at the district's 2-12 building.

The district anticipated saving approximately $74,000 annually, but an analysis has found the savings exceeded $75,000 in the first year. Electrical consumption is down 18.6 percent and fuel usage is down 17.4 percent. The savings are normalized for weather.

The savings will continue to build annually by reducing both energy demand and maintenance costs. That's because LED lighting uses an average of 60 percent less energy and lasts five times longer than the systems that were replaced.

"These relatively simple and straightforward investments in energy efficiency have yielded a tremendous savings, which is critical as we balance the needs of our fast-growing student population with limited resources," said Monroe Local Schools Superintendent Phil Cagwin. "At the same time, we have improved our learning environments with higher-quality lighting, better air quality and more comfortable classroom temperatures."

The majority of the work was funded through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission's House Bill 264 program, enabling the district to make these cost-cutting improvements at no expense to taxpayers while ensuring the guaranteed savings of the project are met or exceeded.

Tipp Pride Begins Engagement with Bruns General Contracting on their $4.9M Stadium Project

TIPP CITY, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- During the latter portion of December, the Tipp City School Board and the Tipp Pride Association identified Bruns General Contracting as their choice for a general contractor for the new community stadium. The Tipp Pride Association initially estimated the stadium construction costs at $6.5M, however, after initial design choices and further examination using a process known as value engineering, Bruns now believes this funding number to be $4.9M.

"Value engineering is where our team reviews the design and materials required for the project. We, then identify if there are alternate, less expensive routes to take," shared Steve Bruns, President of Bruns General Contracting.

The new community stadium project will replace the grass field with artificial turf and install new lights, stands, concession areas, locker rooms, press box, and scoreboard.

"Tipp Pride Association received bids from four qualified teams for this work. The goal of our bid process was to contract with a highly qualified team providing value at the right price." George continued, "It was also great to see the work go to a local company."

Contractors bidding on the work were encouraged to share how they would be open to engaging with local contractors that desired to provide their in-kind or significantly discounted construction services for this stadium construction project.

Bruns General Contracting has laid out a construction schedule from March 1 through August 1, and Tipp Pride Association is planning a ground-breaking ceremony in a number of weeks as work on this project begins.

She was also associate provost for Community Engagement at Alliant from 2009 to 2013.

Dr. Webb served as dean of the College of Education (Baton Rouge) at Southern University and A&M College System: Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Shreveport (Community College), and online from 1998-2000. She co-founded and co-directed the Center for the Study of Academic Achievement in Learning Environments, part of a Stanford University Complex Instruction Institute Consortium, University of Kentucky System: Lexington from 1994-1998. Partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA, saves New Richmond Schools nearly $705,000 in energy costs over a three-year period

TIPP CITY, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- Three years after engaging Energy Optimizers, USA, to improve energy efficiency in its buildings, New Richmond Exempted Village Schools has shaved nearly $705,000 from its utility bills.

In 2013, Energy Optimizers, USA, began making energy efficient improvements to the district's lighting, HVAC, and controls systems. The project included replacement of all lighting with a more energy-efficient system, upgrades to the building automation systems, a more energy efficient steam boiler plant for the high school and upgrades to the pool.

When the work completed in January 2015, the district expected to save just over $331,000 within a three-year period. But the upgrades have yielded savings that are more than two times higher than projections. The district's electric consumption reduced by 33 percent, and gas consumption was cut by 34 percent. These savings calculations were normalized for weather.

"We partnered with Energy Optimizers, USA, to help us make strategic and cost-effective improvements to our energy efficiency, and it is clear that those investments are paying off," said Superintendent Adam Bird.

"The upgrades, combined with greater awareness about energy conservation amongst our staff and students, are delivering tremendous dividends for our classrooms and our taxpayers."

Buildings that earn the EPA's Energy Star rating use 35 percent less energy and generate 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than similar buildings.

The numbers are in, and they show the district has outperformed expectations by more than $40,000 over a three-year period.

From June 2014 through May 2017, the district reduced its energy costs by more than $394,000. Electric consumption is down by 12.9 percent, and gas consumption is down by 12.7 percent. The savings are normalized, or adjusted to account for outliers in weather conditions and costs.

"With this project, the Shawnee Local Schools administration set out with a very clear goal of improving lighting and air quality while saving taxpayer dollars," said James Spyker, Shawnee Local Schools Facility Manager. "By investing in relatively simple and proven energy conservation measures, we have cut our utility bills by a staggering amount. This is great news for our district and our taxpayers, but most of all, for our students. The dollars we are saving have a direct impact on our classrooms."

The project, completed in May 2014, included energy-efficient upgrades to the district's interior and exterior lighting systems and computer systems; the installation of occupancy sensors and smart kitchen controls; and retrofits to the district's boilers and chillers.

The majority of the project was funded through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission's House Bill 264 program, enabling the district to make cost-cutting improvements at no expense to taxpayers while ensuring the guaranteed savings of the project were met or exceeded.

The amount of energy saved by the project is equivalent to removing more than 144 cars from the road or preserving more than 219 acres of trees, according to Greg Smith, president of Energy Optimizers, USA.

Eight Oak Hills Local Schools buildings attain Energy Star ratings with assistance from Energy Optimizers, USA and Four Seasons Environmental

Trotwood-Madison City Schools secures Energy Star rating for two schools with assistance from Energy Optimizers, USA

Spencerville Local Schools expects to save more than $51,000 annually through project with Energy Optimizers, USA

Energy Optimizers, USA, is upgrading the interior and exterior lighting systems in both the district's K-12 and administrative buildings to the more highly efficient LEDs. In May of 2013, the district partnered with Energy Optimizers, USA, to retrofit its lighting systems with lower wattage fluorescents and to make energy efficient upgrades to the district's kitchens.

Prior to the project, the district spent approximately $127,000 annually on energy expenses. Three years after the project's completion, annual utility costs are coming in at $101,450 and electrical consumption is down 31.3 percent. The savings are normalized for weather.

"We have accomplished exactly what we set out to do-improve our learning environments while lowering our operational costs," said South Central Local Treasurer Chris Warrick. "Thanks to our partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA, we are able to make a better investment by redirecting our dollars from our utilities to our classrooms."

The majority of the work was funded through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission's House Bill 264 program, enabling the district to make its cost-cutting improvements at no expense to taxpayers while ensuring the guaranteed savings of the project were met or exceeded. The energy savings were guaranteed by Energy Optimizers, USA, for three years.
