French Navy to Use DITEC’s DC-100 with Acid Replacement Technology for Rust Removal

French Navy

DELRAY BEACH, Fla., May 16, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Today DITEC International announced that DC-100 Rust Remover, an item in DC-100 Collection(TM), will be used by French Navy.

DC-100 Rust Remover(TM) implements the AR Technology and is selected to be used aboard French Navy ships.

The Rust Remover belongs to DITEC's DC-100 Collection(TM), using Acid Replacement Technology combined with DITEC's ELST Solutions. DC-100 product line demonstrates an extreme performance and efficiency while providing the highest level of safety, sustainability and cost-efficiency.

The entire marine industry, including Navy, cruise ships, transport ships and private yachts are operating in one of the most demanding environments on the earth. Every year billions of dollars is spent to fight rust on board marine vessels and rust problem is a great concern combined with enormous financial commitment for the entire industry regardless the size of the vessel. To address this concern DITEC International developed DC-100 Rust Remover(TM).

"DC-100 Collection(TM) is a breakthrough chemical technology. Most products used for removal of rust and rust stains are based on phosphoric or other kind of acids, which are generally corrosive, hazardous and dangerous. DC-100 Rust Remover(TM) uses Acid Replacement Technology and demonstrates 300% better performance and efficiency than phosphoric acid, while providing personal safety, sustainability and superior aquatic profile. Moreover, the extreme efficiency of DC-100 Rust Remover(TM) enables the crew to remove rust and rust stains within seconds without being corrosive either to the surface or the skin. All products in DC-100 Collection(TM) are also compliant with municipal and international environmental requirements such as EPA, NPDES, MARPOL V and EEA (European Environmental Agency) and can be used on open deck while at port," said Christopher Alison, President and CEO of DITEC International Corporation.

"Personal safety, sustainability, performance and reduction of maintenance costs are top priorities for French Navy. By using DC-100 on board their vessels, the French Navy has seen the value in making their ships safer, their operation more sustainable while reducing maintenance intervals and repair costs, as well as increasing the life expectancy of their vessels," said Colin Wilcken for DITEC Distribution in France.

Eric Combs’ New Book Launch of ‘Mission Critical’ Examines our Public Schools

Mission Critical

TIPP CITY, Ohio, May 14, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Award-winning educator and writer Eric A. Combs, debuts an ambitious and eye-opening book, "Mission Critical" (ISBN: 978-1-940876-06-1), a non-fiction title encompassing his thoughts and experiences of the American public school system. What makes this book so unique is Combs' ability to share his experience of being a USAF Senior Master Sergeant and explain how it shapes and relates to his work within the realm of education.

Combs spent 20 years in the Air Force serving as a Security Forces Superintendent and special tactics instructor. During his tenure in the military he served all over the globe, including Asia, Europe, North Africa and even the Middle East. In 1992 he was the Non-commissioned Officer of the Year in Europe. However, his accolades didn't stop there. He switched roles from being an Airmen to an educator eventually being named the 2006 Ohio Teacher of the Year.

Published by Foxhead Books, Mission Critical touches on many facets of the public schooling system in the United States. Combs bluntly states his frustrations with public schooling and what is and isn't working. In the book, Combs uses his own personal experiences to tell of successes and failures. He then relates these stories back to the failing American public school system and then finally prescribes ways on how to dramatically change it for the better. Combs compliments the hard-working teachers, parents and administration who don't receive much recognition for their role in propelling students to care about their education.

The difficulties Combs faced during his time in the USAF not only prepared him for his challenging career as an educator in public schools but also gave him an unique perspective that many aren't equipped to carry. To find out more about Eric Combs and his unyielding new book, Mission Critical visit http://ericcombs.com/ .

About Mission Critical:

In "Mission Critical" (ISBN: 978-1-940876-06-1) Combs solutions for a dangerously broken American public school system barely held together by hard-working teachers, parents and administrators. First as a Senior Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and then as a teacher and school administrator, Combs discovered that much of what he learned serving in the military translated into very real instructional methods and tactics within the classroom. Combs is available for interviews and appearances. For booking presentations, media appearances, interviews, and/or book-signings contact virginia@bashfoo.com.

Weitz and Luxenberg – Lawsuit Filed in Industrial Chemical Case

health and safety law

WESTPORT, Mass., May 12, 2104 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- The Town of Westport and Westport Community Schools have taken an important step to protect the health of students, teachers, administrators, and others who work in or visit schools in Westport. They filed a lawsuit against Monsanto Company and its corporate successors to recover the costs of removing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB's) from their schools, says Weitz & Luxenberg.

In May 2011, PCBs were first discovered in Westport Middle School at levels that far exceeded minimal safety standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). PCBs are man-made chemicals that were widely used in hundreds of industrial and commercial applications from the early 1950s to the late 70s - including construction materials used in thousands of schools and governmental buildings. Monsanto is the only known U.S. manufacturer of PCBs during that period.

The Westport Middle School was completed in 1969, and during its construction, PCB-containing materials, including window and door caulking and light ballasts, were used. PCBs can migrate out of these products and into adjoining masonry, flooring, walls, and soil and can be released into the air causing danger to those who come in contact with it.

The EPA has determined that Monsanto's PCBs are probable human carcinogens and exert significant toxic effects on the immune system, the reproductive system, the nervous system, and the endocrine system. Students, teachers, administrators, and other individuals who come in regular contact with PCBs at the levels found in the Westport schools may be at an increased risk of contracting these and other serious illnesses. For these reasons, EPA discourages the continued use of certain PCB-containing materials.

The Town of Westport and Westport Community Schools have asserted in their Complaint that Monsanto had knowledge of the dangers of this product going back decades but failed to warn of its dangers. The lawsuit seeks the costs associated with removing PCBs from all school buildings in Westport.

The lawsuit is brought by Attorney Richard M. Sandman of Rodman, Rodman & Sandman, P.C., in Malden, Massachusetts, together with Scott Summy of Baron & Budd in Dallas, Texas, and Robert Gordon of Weitz & Luxenberg in New York City.

About Weitz & Luxenberg:

Founded in 1986 by attorneys Perry Weitz and Arthur Luxenberg, Weitz & Luxenberg, P.C., today ranks among the nation's leading law firms. Weitz & Luxenberg's numerous litigation areas include: mesothelioma, defective medicine and devices, environmental pollutants, accidents, personal injury, and medical malpractice. Minneapolis MD turned author lands his second #1 Best-selling Medical Thriller

In The Line of Ire

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., May 1, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Former anesthesiologist and critical care specialist Edwin Dasso, a native of St. Paul, Minn., has set the Amazon charts alight with his #1 Best-selling series "Jack Bass Black Cloud Chronicles" which features Colonel Jack Bass MD, whose horrendous battleground experiences in Iraq has left him emotionally scarred with severe PTSD.

Dasso's novels, "Past Aghast" (ISBN: 978-1480073654) and "In The Line of Ire" both stormed to the Amazon #1 spot as the Best-selling medical thriller, toppling some of the biggest names in publishing from the peak of its charts. "In The Line of Ire" remained at #1 for an unprecedented six consecutive weeks.

After many years in the medical field, and after spending nine years as a National Medical Director, Edwin Dasso wished to pursue his ambition to write fiction using his real-life medical experiences. The impetus to start writing came when a veteran friend of his called to tell him that he'd just learned about a mutual friend and Iraq veteran, who, suffering from PTSD, put a gun in his mouth as a way to end his pain.

Though this is a work of fiction, Edwin hoped it could bring some attention to the affliction of PTSD in veterans, which seems to be an issue largely ignored by most policy makers.

What the public has said about the Jack Black Cloud Chronicles series: "Forget G.I. Joe there is a new American hero and his name is Capt. Jack Bass!"

"If you like medical thrillers with mile a minute action, suspense and thrills in the plot line and a mix of complex and fascinating characters, both good and evil, then In the Line of Ire, is definitely for you." - One of the many 5 Star Amazon reviews.

All novels in the #1 Best-selling "Jack Bass Black Cloud Chronicles" are available for sale online in paperback and eBook.

STQC certification of biometric devices is a requirement for implementing biometric authentication in India's Unique Identification (UID) project. One goal of the UID project is to issue every Indian resident a unique identification number, known as an Aadhaar number, linked to the resident's demographic and biometric information, which they can use to identify themselves anytime, anywhere in India, and to access a host of benefits and services.

The Hamster Pro 20 is an ultra-compact, highly precise, rugged and yet very affordable fingerprint reader. Also certified is the companion OEM version of this fingerprint reader called U20. SecuGen has been selling fingerprint readers, OEM sensors and related products in India for more than a decade. Aniket Jathar, Managing Director of SecuGen India said, "The Hamster Pro 20 will change the competitive landscape in India. Early indications are that this product really hits the target when it comes to the requirements of the UIDAI. The small size and affordable pricing is exactly what our Systems Integrator, Software Vendor, and OEM partners are asking for. The Hamster Pro 20 is a perfect fit for many of the large procurements that are currently underway here."

Won Lee, CEO of SecuGen added, "We are honored to have the Hamster Pro 20 receive this prestigious certification. Five Queens and their Robot qualify for World Championship

Kings And Queens Team

MONROVIA, Calif., March 27, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Five young women from Monrovia High School and their rhinestone-encrusted robot qualified to advance to the 2014 First Tech Challenge Robotics World Championships as a result of their strong performance at the West Super-Regional Robotics Tournament held near Sacramento at the former McClellan Air Force Base this past weekend, the Monrovia High School Robotics Program announced today.

The Monrovia team, the only qualifier from the Los Angeles area, joins three San Diego teams and four Northern California teams to be among the 128 top teams from around the world to compete at the First Robotics World Championships to be held at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis April 23-26, 2014.

A total of 24 teams advanced from the West Super-Regional including teams from Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Nevada, and Arizona.

These five junior class women - the "Kings and Queens" team - stand out not just for their signature costumes of purple-velvet-and gold-embroidered renaissance dresses and the purple and gold medieval royal pavilion where the team relaxes between matches. Their purple robot "Your Highness" performed flawlessly during the competition even after a failure of the robot's transport cart sent it plunging to the floor of the arena in an unplanned four-foot "drop test." In fact, during the crucial and difficult software-controlled "autonomous period" of the matches, Your Highness achieved a perfect record of 10 of 10 successful autonomous runs scoring an average of 56 autonomous points per match out of a possible 60.

The members of the Kings And Queens team - Amanda Sullivan, Melissa Johnson, Emma McIntosh, Jordan Nunez and Nicole Miller - designed and built their 18 by 18 inch robot from Tetrix parts, Plexiglas, metal shapes and machined aluminum to compete with alliances of robots on a 12 by 12 foot field. In competitions the robots are required to perform a variety of tasks in 2-1/2 minutes including picking up 2-inch plastic cubes and depositing them into elevated goals, navigating a wooden ramp, raising a flag up a pole, and gripping a cross bar and pulling themselves up completely off the floor, all while coordinating with a partner robot and while sharing the field with an opposing team of robots intent on accomplishing the same tasks.

This marks the first trip to the world championships for Monrovia High School's four-year-old FTC robotics program which fields four separate student robotics teams supported by company sponsors, the community, and parents, and is led by physics teacher Tom Dobson. The success of the Kings And Queens caps a strong year for Monrovia High which saw all four of the program's teams qualify over the season to compete in the Los Angeles Regional Championship Tournament held in Monrovia in February. At the L.A. regional tournament the Kings And Queens team was awarded the Inspire Award, FTC Robotics highest award naming them the "role-model" team for their on-field success, teamwork, inspiration to others, representation of the First Robotics program to their school and community, and embodiment of "Gracious Professionalism," the core value of the FIRST program.

The Monrovia High FTC robotics after-school program is one of many opportunities at Monrovia High School supporting STEM education (science, technology, engineering, and math) in conjunction with Monrovia's Math and Science Academy, and supported by the Monrovia Schools Foundation.

The Monrovia High School FTC robotics program is actively seeking tax-deductible donations and company sponsorships to help cover the approximate $13,000 cost of taking the team to St. Louis in April. Donations may be made through our GoFundMe page at http://www.gofundme.com/75ehc4 .

A New Research Study Has Concluded that Dark Energy Probably Does Not Exist

Hubble Space Telescope

MONTREAL, Quebec, Canada, March 7, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- According to the Pantheory Research Organization, a new study of type 1a supernova data has concluded, for the first time, that dark energy probably does not exist. The paper is entitled "An Alternative Universe-Scale Analytic Metrology and Related Cosmological Model." The paper was published in the February 2014 issue of the journal of Applied Physics Research, by the Canadian Center of Science and Education.

This new research study involves "an analysis of type 1a supernovae data with newly proposed distance and brightness equations which, if valid, would eliminate the need for changing expansion rates of the universe vis-a-vis dark energy." This conclusion was based upon researchers comparing Big Bang related Hubble formula distance calculations with alternative-cosmology derived distance and brightness equations and related calculations, concerning a present-day study of type 1a supernova observations.

The subject paper used the same type 1a supernovae data as the original studies and papers that proposed the accelerated expansion of the universe, but this and other present-day studies now include much more data since the quantity of international observations of type 1a supernovae has multiplied greatly since then. At the time of the original studies in the 1990's that proposed the accelerated expansion of the universe, there were at least two unstated assumptions being made.

The first well-accepted assumption then and now was that space is expanding, and the second assumption was that the Hubble Formula calculates distances correctly based upon a constant expansion rate of the universe. The Hubble Distance Formula was derived from the Special Theory of Relativity based upon an expanding universe. The authors of this paper say that if either or both of these assumptions were wrong, then dark energy could be an invalid hypothesis even though the Nobel Prize was granted for its discovery.

The non-standard cosmology used as the basis for deriving the alternative equations and calculations used for comparison in the study is called the "Pan Theory."

"Major conclusions of the study were that the observable universe is probably not expanding also precluding its accelerated expansion (dark energy), and that the Hubble Distance Formula is wrong and needs to be replaced," say the authors Forrest W. Noble and Timothy M. Cooper.

Wisconsin Native Launches Her Debut Novel to Promote Awareness of Teen Bullying

The Cat That Went To Homecoming

MILWAUKEE, Wis., March 4, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Julie Otzelberger shows the bully what it's like to be on the other side, while showing the victim how to overcome obstacles through volunteer work. "The Cat That Went To Homecoming" (ISBN: 9781612358215; paper) published by Fire and Ice Young Adult Books, was released on Amazon.com as a Kindle edition, and on Lulu.com in both paperback and ebook on February 24, 2014.

"The Cat That Went To Homecoming" is the coming of age story of Ellen Jones, an overweight teenage girl from a single family home. She is under constant attack by her peers, bullied because of her weight and her family's poverty. Through volunteer work with her cat, Hershey, Ellen finds her self esteem and the courage to stand up to her bullies. Along the way, she discovers what true friendship and forgiveness are and tells us how Hershey became "The Cat That Went To Homecoming."

"'The Cat That Went To Homecoming' addresses many serious social issues including family separation, bullying, homophobia, social isolation, and depression. The compelling story is also about fun, friendship, and forgiveness," says Paula Scott-Ginn, Pet Partners Marketing Coordinator.

Mrs. Otzelberger's goals in writing this novel were to create awareness of teen bullying and to show young adults how they can benefit from volunteerism. The author herself is a registered handler with Pet Partners, and she and her cat Bear underwent the same training and testing as Ellen and Hershey do in the novel.

Julie Otzelberger is grew up in Hartland Wisconsin and has been a Milwaukee area resident since her high school years. She is no stranger to bullying, having been bullied for most of her school years. The comments classmates made still haunted her after thirty years. In an effort to overcome her self esteem issues, Mrs. Otzelberger underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2010.

The unconditional love that pets offer can heal almost any pain. Gastric Bypass surgery changed Mrs. Otzelberger's appearance, but it could not heal the scars of bullying. The work she does with her therapy cat, Bear, gave her the self esteem she was lacking.

Julie Otzelberger has been married to her husband for 17 years, and their daughter still lives at home while attending college. They have four cats and one dog-several of her coworkers refer to her home as "Noah's Ark"

"Hershey is a combination of each cat God has blessed me with over the years," says Otzelberger. "My life was similar to Ellen's, but I did not find anything like Pet Partners until very recently. I hope I help a young girl finds her way to Pet Partners and follow her altruistic path with her best friend."

U.S. Inventor Announces New Patent for Wind Turbine Industry

wind turbine blades

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., March 4, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Kamen George Kamenov, a U.S. inventor, today announced that he has patented a new way to support windmill blades and to triple the amount of energy extracted from the wind. Patent #8629570 has been assigned to these wind turbine blades with reinforcing, supporting and stabilizing components and enlarged swept area.

"This more efficient and effective way to harness wind power could seriously change the face of the alternative energy industry," Kamenov says.

And, with dwindling conventional energy sources for electricity production, wind power is on the rise. Natural energy forms, when properly managed, are inexhaustible.

It should also be noted that according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, wind capacity will increase by 8.8 percent to about 66 gigawatts (GW) by the end of 2014 and will increase 14.6 percent to total more than 75 GW at the end of 2015.

So, this new invention for wind turbines is not only timely, but also well positioned for growth.

How do wind turbines work? Wind turbines convert the wind's kinetic energy into mechanical power through the use of a rotor with blades that spin a shaft.

The shaft is connected to a generator that converts the mechanical power into electricity. The swept area is the total area inside the imaginary circle, which the blades make when they turn under the wind pressure. The larger the swept area, the more wind energy is captured. However, if you double the length of the blades, the swept area increases four times.

"That is the secret of this invention - increasing the length of the blades with no additional cost and at the same time reinforcing them so that they don't break. Long blades are very expensive, unbalanced and can get damaged or break easily," Kamenov says.

The advantages of using wind energy are that it's renewable, nonpolluting and free. Disadvantages include diluted and unpredictable energy results, and high initial and maintenance cost.

This new invention is designed to meet many needs. They include the ability to reduce the cost of converting wind energy into electricity by providing a better construction and reinforcing and/or replacing the rotor and the blades with new and more efficient ones. It also hopes to use all wind potential, weak and strong and in more remote and high-location areas.

Available for licensing, some European, Chinese and Indian manufacturers and investors are already showing interest.

Five Queens and a Robot Win Top Honors and Head to Sacramento

Kings And Queens

MONROVIA, Calif., Feb. 27, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Five young women from Monrovia High School and their rhinestone-encrusted robot won the top Inspire Award at the Los Angeles FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) Regional Championship Tournament held at Monrovia this past Saturday, the Monrovia High School Robotics Program announced today. Along with six other teams from cities ranging from Santa Barbara to San Diego, they advance to compete with top teams from eleven western states, Alaska and Hawaii in McClellan, Calif., near Sacramento on March 20-22, 2014 at the West Super-Regional FTC Championship.

These five junior class women - the "Kings and Queens" team - designed and built their own 18 by 18 inch robot from Tetrix parts, plexiglass, and machined aluminum to compete with alliances of robots on a 12 by 12 foot field. They stand out not just for their driving, design prowess, and their robot's ability to raise a flag and pull itself up on a bar. Heads turn as they drive their purple robot "Your Highness" while wearing their signature costumes of purple-velvet-and gold-embroidered renaissance dresses. They also spread the word of robotics design as they share their robot adventures with elementary and middle-school students around Monrovia.

Engineer and computer programming judges from major regional companies chose the team from among a field of the top 48 FTC robotics teams from throughout Southern California as the "role-model" team for their on-field success, teamwork, inspiration to others, representation of the First Robotics program to their school and community, and embodiment of "Gracious Professionalism," the core value of the FIRST program.

This win is the first Regional champion from Monrovia High School in its four-year-old FTC robotics program, supported by company sponsors and members of the community and led by physics teacher Tom Dobson. Monrovia High School advanced four teams to the Los Angeles Regional Championship, which drew winners from eight qualifier competitions from Los Angeles out to the High Desert. This high school FTC after-school program is one of many opportunities supporting STEM education (science, technology, engineering, and math) in conjunction with Monrovia's Math and Science Academy. A second of Monrovia High's four FTC Robotics teams, "Team R.E.D.," won an alternate spot for the Super-Regional tournament.

Winning teams in the West Super-Regional Competition will advance to the international championships in St. Louis, Mo. on April 23-26, 2014. The Monrovia High School FTC robotics program welcomes tax-deductible donations and company sponsorships to help cover the cost of traveling to Sacramento and hopefully on to St. Louis.

Gracious Professionalism(R) is a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community.

About the FIRST Tech Challenge Competition (FTC):

In the FTC program, teams of middle and high school age teens design and build robots to address game challenges announced each September. Each robot must be built using only specified parts and materials, and the entire robot must occupy a space no larger than 18x18x18-inches at the start of each match. In this year's game, "Block Party," robots pick two-inch yellow plastic cubes from the floor and deposit them into elevated goals on a balance beam, raise a flag, and grab a bar suspended three-feet high and lift itself completely off the surface. Robots compete in five 2-1/2 minute matches over the course of four hours that combine a 30-second pre-programmed period using sensors and software written by the teams to drop blocks into goals marked with infrared beacons and navigate onto a wooden ramp, and a two minute teen-driven period using game controllers. Teams compete in pairs for the highest score, with the pairings randomly assigned, and a team's partner in one match can be their opponent in another.

More than 140 teams compete in the Los Angeles FTC Region from schools, community groups, and other organizations. Teams sign up each September and compete November through February in the region.

Consumer Demand for Tiny Houses Drives Vermont Company to Redesign Product Offerings

Vermont Cottage

SOUTH LONDONDERRY, Vt., Feb. 17, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Jamaica Cottage Shop, Inc. announced this week the launch of its new website, dynamically designed to showcase its post and beam tiny house kits, cabins, sheds and cottages.

Domenic Mangano, owner, Jamaica Cottage Shop, explains that the new website was well timed for its launch because the demand for tiny homes, cabins and sheds continues to be high throughout North America.

"We wanted to create a website where users had a seamless process when ordering one of our tiny houses, cabin, shed or cottage kits," Mangano explains. "While the previous website was educational in nature, this site is designed to deliver a positive e-commerce experience, offers more options and incorporates a new parts and accessories section."

Post and beam cottages, sheds, cabins and tiny houses can be ordered in one of three ways: Do-it-yourself (DIY) plans; pre-cut kits; or fully assembled. Experience shows that a large majority of people are interested in the do-it-yourself package plans, and they need the ability to separately purchase parts and accessories to complement those plans.

"What really sets us apart from other post and beam tiny house manufacturers are our clever and original designs," Mangano says. "This new website is a perfect way for us to make that important distinction."

http://www.JamaicaCottageShop.com/ is easily viewable on desktops, iPads, tablets and mobile devices.

About Jamaica Cottage Shop, Inc.:

The "Jamaica Cottage Shop" name derives from the tiny New England town of Jamaica, Vermont where the company had its humble beginnings in 1995. Today, the company is based in Londonderry and produces a full line of outdoor storage sheds, tiny houses, outhouses and green living cabins. Hand-crafted by Vermont artisans, these buildings are as durable as they are attractive and are built in the post and beam tradition.

Author Says His New Law May Shed Light on Nuclear Fusion Problem

Spacedrive Warpdrive

TORONTO, Ontario, Jan. 14, 2014 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- "Spacedrive, Warpdrive, Free Energy and Other Ideas" (ISBN: 978-146-792-0926), authored by Tom Prendivoj, explores and challenges an array of scientific theories and situations. His concepts and principles pose problems and solutions, leaving the reader wanting more.

For example, he poses why nuclear fusion won't work in a magnetic reactor like the tokamak. He then goes on to create "Prendivoj's Law" which states: A magnetic field (regardless of field strength) cannot hold a plasma at or beyond its fusion temperature. It's the law. He offers a solution that may surprise some.

"The end analysis is that sustainable nuclear fusion cannot be established with current engineering methods," Prendivoj says. "My new law may shed some light on the fusion problem."

Mukuria Wins Adelina Award

 Megan White Mukuria

NAIROBI, KENYA, Dec. 6, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Megan White Mukuria, founder of ZanaAfrica, is the latest recipient of the Adelina Award, a prize awarded for exemplary accomplishment in the areas of humanitarian assistance, environmental improvement, education reform, sustainability, and disaster relief, according to John Toomey, Eula Laki and Lydia Ramos of Friends Beyond Borders and the World Mind Network, co-chairs of the Awards Committee.

Mukuria's organization provides a holistic and sustainable solution to keeping Kenyan girls in school by providing them with locally made sanitary pads.

In Kenya, one million girls miss up to 1.5 months of school because of their period, and the drop-out rate is twice that of boys starting at puberty. Considering that staying in school means girls are four times less likely to contract HIV, five times less likely to become teen mothers, and can earn 10 to 20 percent more, it becomes clear that it is necessary to work on keeping these young women in the classroom.

Mukuria believes that pads for girls, though crucial, are only one part of the equation. Her group is developing a new, more affordable pad that can be distributed widely to meet womens' needs and offer a sustainable and scalable business model. They are reinventing the pad-leveraging agricultural byproducts, streamlining the process, and creating a high-quality, radically affordable pad that helps solve an environmental problem rather than creating one.

They have also designed engaging comics to provide critical health education to girls in a way that is fun, standardized, and easily sharable. Young women can better take control of their lives and livelihoods and inspire those around them to do the same.

65 percent of women and girls in Kenya cannot afford pads. This means that over 850,000 girls miss 6 weeks of school every year and women miss valuable work hours. The problem is worse across East Africa with 4 in 5 unable to afford pads.

Reusable pads and rags are the alternatives, but can be unhygienic, leading to long-term health complications. They also cause embarrassing leaks. Girls would rather stay home than risk such humiliation

ZanaAfrica's mission is to produce the lowest-cost, most eco-responsible sanitary pad in the world and to provide large-scale, cascading impact to women and intermediary partners through distribution.

By 2020 ZanaAfrica will directly support 3 million girls and women with pads, to sustainably win back 5 million school days, 2 million work hours and $1 million to reinvest in their families. They will equip 23,000 saleswomen to earn an additional $100/year.

RevOmax Lubricants Announces a Technology Breakthrough in Custom-Blended Lubrication Extenders at The PRI Show 2013

RevOmax Lubricants

PALM BEACH, Fla., Dec. 3, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- AmberTech Global has teamed up with Excellent Performance, Inc.'s oil division, RevOmax Lubricants - www.RevOmaxUSA.com - to produce and distribute motor oil and fuel lubricants to the performance and racing industry worldwide.

At $4.99/qt MSRP, it's less than half the price of other comparable racing oils. This new Molecular Surface Modification (MSM) technology promises to provide dealers with the highest quality oil at competitive pricing.

RevOmax's MSM advanced green anti-friction chemistry is strategically positioned to become an industry leader with bio-based lubricants that improve the performance of engines, and the overall effectiveness of lubrication systems in automotive, marine, and the powersports industries.

RevOmax MSM(TM) Powerblend 15w40 Racing Oil exceeds industry requirements with a TBN 10 rating, which measures oil's ability to absorb contaminants over the life of the lubricant; normal ratings range from 6-9. At $4.99/qt MSRP, for the PRI kickoff, there are Show Stopper Incentives for the first 500 dealers who sign up at the RevOmax booth. Lubricant samples will be handed out by AmberTech chemists who will be on hand to explain this new bio-based technology.

At first glance, RevOmax appears to be just another lubricant company claiming reduced friction of metal parts, but RevOmax is truly a pioneer in the biolubricants field with a USDA-Certified 99 percent Bio-based patent-pending compound that reacts under friction between critical wear surfaces at the molecular level.

By reducing friction, heat, and wear, more usable energy and horsepower is unleashed which translates savings at the fuel pump.

This new green compound from Mother Earth is not only good for the planet, it has been tested, proven, and certified by third-party labs to deliver as promised.

Courageous Typhoon Heroes Win Adelina Awards

Adelina Award

TACLOBAN, Philippines, Nov. 20, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Several individuals and groups who exemplified great valor in the face of unimaginable tragedy during Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) have been honored by receiving the Adelina Award, the most prestigious prize in the Philippines awarded for humanitarian relief efforts, according to Lydia Ramos and Sarah Mendel of the World Mind Network and Friends Beyond Borders, who chair the Awards Committee.

The first Award went to the staff, residents and management of the Streetlight Orphanage in Tacloban, including founder Erlend Johannessen. "We were on the roof, all of us, five-meter waves pounding our walls, building shaking, 300 kilometer winds, and we were just holding on for our dear lives. But my kids are so, so brave. My staff is so amazing. They really showed true Filipino spirit. They refused to give up. They were holding onto each other. Even if they were not their own kids, they held them as if they were their own kids," Johannessen said.

Another recipient is the medical team from Mammoth Medical Missions in California, which stationed a group of 16 doctors and support staff in the ruined Town Hall of Tanauan, 30 kilometers south of Tacloban. Working under wartime conditions with no power, running water, or sufficient supplies, they performed more than 100 surgeries, including amputations and C-sections, in three days soon after the typhoon.

Medala moms is a group of Filipinas who were honored with an Adelina Award for donating breast milk to desperate mothers of infants in the typhoon zone. They work in cooperation with the Philippine General Hospital Milk Bank which uses the latest technology to preserve the breast milk and transport it to calamity-stricken areas.

British engineer Jonathan Fitzpatrick won the Award for his heroic actions in saving dozens of people trapped in the Ormoc Villa Hotel on the morning the typhoon made landfall with 170 mph winds. He and his colleagues kicked in blocked doors, shuttled people to relatively safe stairwells, and provided water until the wind subsided. According to his family, he at first thought he and the others were going to die, but decided that if he was going to perish, he would do so while fighting.

Rex Raymond Torrecampo from Batangas, Philippines, won the prize for his brilliant analysis of the tragedy which appeared on his blog LifeSoMundane. He pointed out that much misery can be avoided during disasters like typhoons for which the storm path is fairly predictable well beforehand, by storing relief supplies close to, but just outside of the estimated storm track.

Dr. Joji Tomioka and his team of 26 doctors and support staff from Japan won the Adelina Award for their ground-breaking use of new technology in the field. They deployed wireless mobile X-ray units, developed after the devastating tsunami which hit Fukushima, Japan in 2011. A small camera scans the patient, and its information is sent to an iPad and thence to a laptop. Using typical thumb and forefinger iPad gestures, doctors can zero in on an image to see exactly where a lesion or bone break might be. The Japanese team is currently seeing about 200 patients a day.

NASA and the Italian Space Agency won an Award for work performed by their ARIA (Advanced Rapid Imaging and Analysis) team. They produced a space-based map of the Tacloban region which helps disaster relief authorities by depicting minute surface changes in the terrain caused by natural or human-produced damage.

Shawnee Local Schools to Save $117,560 Annually Through Implementing Energy Conservation Project

Shawnee Local Schools

TIPP CITY, Ohio, Nov. 6, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- Michael Lamb, Superintendent of Shawnee Local Schools, is pleased to announce that the district is implementing an energy conservation project, to be implemented by Energy Optimizers, USA, to improve four existing academic buildings, reduce over-all energy usage, and save taxpayer resources. "In an age of declining revenue and resources, the ability to reduce our operational expenditures through greater energy efficiency is tremendously important for the fiscal health of the school district. Energy Optimizers, USA, and SHP Leading Design have enabled us to save precious dollars that can be redirected into the classrooms for quality instruction for our students," says Lamb.

Energy Optimizers, USA, along with strategic partner, SHP Leading Design, has identified areas where enhancements should be made, to the local high school in particular, so the buildings can be more purposeful in their use of energy without compromising a comfortable learning environment for teachers and students. The district is utilizing a funding mechanism through the Ohio School Facilities Commission's House Bill 264 program so that the District does not have to ask for any taxpayer dollars.

Though the total cost of this project exceeds $1.1 million (prior to grants and rebates), the Shawnee Local School system stands to save a staggering $117,560 in annual energy and operations costs. As a result, the District can count on a 9.36 year payback, along with other post-project benefits, including energy management and energy education programming, in addition to increasingly efficient buildings that facilitate a productive and safe academic experience.

Energy Optimizers, USA developed a project for Shawnee Local Schools focused on lighting upgrades, which will significantly reduce electrical consumption across the district, in addition to upgrading existing mechanical equipment and retrofitting boilers. Both Shawnee High School and Middle School, along with Maplewood Intermediate School, Elmwood Primary School and the Bus Garage will all receive top of the line upgrades upon implementation of the energy conservation project including re-lamping and de-lamping fluorescent fixtures, occupancy sensors, exterior fixtures, steam boiler plant retrofits, computer upgrades, and smart controls on kitchen equipment.

"To date, SHP has helped over 35 school districts with energy saving initiatives," noted Charlie Jahnigen, Vice President of SHP Leading Design. "SHP has worked with Shawnee Local Schools since 2012 to improve their learning environments. Focusing on energy efficiency is a great step to long-term facility management," added Jahnigen. The breadth of project experience and commitment to a critical mission by Energy Optimizers, USA and SHP will serve this Lima-area school district well.

Additionally, students and teachers can expect to receive funding to implement an energy education program that allows students to take the Shawnee Local School District's sustainability efforts a step further by creating student groups called "Green Teams." The students who wish to participate in Green Team programming will participate in engrossing, educational STEM (Science. Technology. Engineering. Math) activities related to energy conservation, while encouraging their peers to become more environmentally conscious.

"It is always encouraging when the school district we are working with is as excited as we are to implement an energy conservation project," notes Bob Hausmann, Operations Manager for Energy Optimizers, USA. "Shawnee Local Schools' administration and School Board members are not only pleased to make positive changes in order to conserve both energy and taxpayer resources, they are passionate about creating better, more efficient facilities for their students and teachers. We truly look forward to helping them meet their fiscal goals and assisting them in championing a great idea - the idea that a 'greener,' more sustainable means of energy use is not only responsible and practical, it is preferable."

About Energy Optimizers, USA:

Energy Optimizers, USA works with Ohio school districts and government agencies to implement energy savings opportunities to reduce operational costs, including lighting retrofits, renewable energy projects (wind and solar), HVAC retrofit projects, building automation retrofits and energy education programs. Philippines Employs ‘Lumpia Strategy’ to Counter Chinese Expansion

Adelina Award

AYUNGIN ISLAND, Philippines, Nov. 1, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- An under-the-radar struggle for disputed island reefs is evolving in the South China Sea, between China and the Philippines, and the tactics employed by each side are named after foods, according to Reina Prince, global strategist for the NGO Friends Beyond Borders.

The area called Reed Bank contains hundreds of relatively unimpressive deserted islands and shoals, but what is really valuable to both nations is under the surface. Some estimates are that the seabed beneath the area holds 55 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, as well as 5.4 billion barrels of crude oil.

China has aggressively asserted its claims to the area, sending more and more navy ships, research vessels, and fishing boats over the last few years. For its part, the Philippines has grounded an abandoned WWII era ship, the Sierra Madre, on a lonely reef in the disputed area, and manned it with eight Marines.

General Zhang Zhaozhong, of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, has described China's long term plan as "the Cabbage Strategy" which means the effort to flood a disputed area of island-dotted ocean with so many boats that "the island is thus wrapped layer by layer like a cabbage."

Referring to recent efforts to take land from the Philippines, Zhang said "We should do more such things in the future. For those small islands, only a few troopers are able to station on each of them, but there is no food or even drinking water there. If we carry out the cabbage strategy, you will not be able to send food and drinking water onto the islands. Without the supply for one or two weeks, the troopers stationed there will leave the islands on their own. Once they have left, they will never be able to come back."

The Philippine government has responded with what Prince calls the "Lumpia Strategy," named after the famous Filipino egg roll stuffed with vegetables (including cabbage) and sometimes meat. It aims to preserve Filipino sovereignty over the islands by maintaining possession and fishing rights. Mayor Eugenio Bito-onon, whose territory includes Ayungin Island, tries to help the military re-supply the troops on the distant outpost, for which he and the marines have been honored with the Adelina Award, but Chinese interference is making such efforts more and more difficult. Only sustained support from the people and government can keep the garrison intact.

Children’s Choir Moves Nation, World, with Performance at Earthquake-ruined Church

Adelina Award

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines, Oct. 23, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- The World Mind Network today announced that The Loboc Children's Choir provided a spontaneous moment of inspiration and hope to the quake-ravaged Philippines on Thursday, with an impromptu performance of Josh Groban's "The Prayer."

According to Sarah Mendel of Friends Beyond Borders, an NGO helping with quake aid, the group approached the ABS-CBN news team as it was reporting in front of the ruined Loboc Church, inside of which the choral group had performed many times.

The church, built by the Spanish in 1602, has survived hundreds of earthquakes, but was completely destroyed by the October 17 7.2 magnitude temblor.

The quake killed at least 198, injured hundreds, and severely damaged more than 19,000 structures.

As a result of their heroic act, the Choir has won the Adelina Award, the most prestigious Humanitarian honor offered in the Philippines.

The Loboc Children's Choir has been in existence since 1980, and consists of 30 school children from the Loboc Central Elementary School in Loboc, Bohol, Philippines. The children are between nine and thirteen years of age.

A scale model of what the rebuilt church might look like, which honors the original architecture but incorporates modern design elements to help prevent future earthquake damage, will be circulated among schools in the region to assist with fundraising and recovery efforts. The new church will be rededicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe, the patron saint of Loboc.

The choir's performance can be seen here: (CBN TV News website) http://goo.gl/fpFOsn .

Students use Social Media to help Victims of Earthquake in Philippines

Adelina Award

CEBU CITY, Philippines, Oct. 17, 2013 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- In efforts spearheaded by the World Mind Network, Friends Beyond Borders, and Batangas Varsitarian, young people from around the world used Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Skype, Friendster, and SMS tracking sites to help rescuers locate and aid victims of the recent earthquake in the central Philippines. The 7.2 magnitude quake struck the region of Bohol Island and Cebu just after 8 a.m. local time on October 15, 2013.

So far 161 have been confirmed dead, with hundreds injured, 19,000 homes severely damaged, and major losses to roads and infrastructure. According to Sarah Mendel and John Toomey of the World Mind Network, students from Stanford, Harvard, Emory, Utah, the University of Batangas, Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines, and several others participated.

"It's becoming more and more obvious that the power people possess in the palm of their hand, namely their Smart phone or tablet, has enormous power to help people instantly," said Toomey. "Disasters like this are the most self-evident example, but the same principle applies to every kind of humanitarian, public health, and educational assistance."

Every month the Adelina Award is presented by BatangasVarsitarian.net to someone who has performed heroically on behalf of Batangas or the Philippines in the fields of Humanitarian aid, Education, Public Health, Disaster Relief, or Economic Improvement.

This week five Adelina Awards are being announced, all for people and organizations who have rendered service far beyond the call of duty in helping the victims of the Bohol earthquake:

Robert Michael Poole: Mr. Poole traveled all over Bohol on the day of the quake, taking photos which documented the destruction. Many were useful in helping rescuers locate and save victims. You can see his photos here:
