It’s More Than Green, It’s Waterproofing, says Pacific Roofing Systems

When done properly the walls should terminate 6 inches above the roof with a metal weep screed that allows the water to weep out above the roofline and onto the roof, which is a standard waterproofing practice. This home, however, had a tar and gravel roof with nowhere for the moisture to weep out too, and the homeowner didn't want to open up and rework all the stucco terminations of his beautiful modern home."

In addition to the no construction challenge, the city of Laguna Beach does not allow the installation white roofing. Both Alan and SureCoat had a solution for that.

"We proposed to get rid of the gravel, to smooth down the roof, to clean it up, and then install a colored version of the SureCoat Roof System," Stovesand adds.

This solution offered no stucco demolition, saved thousands of dollars, and provided the opportunity to have a smooth monolithic UV resistant roof that is leak free. Energy savings project with Energy Optimizers, USA, expected to save Shelby County Board of Developmental Disabilities more than $15,000 annually

Tipp Pride Begins Engagement with Bruns General Contracting on their $4.9M Stadium Project

TIPP CITY, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- During the latter portion of December, the Tipp City School Board and the Tipp Pride Association identified Bruns General Contracting as their choice for a general contractor for the new community stadium. The Tipp Pride Association initially estimated the stadium construction costs at $6.5M, however, after initial design choices and further examination using a process known as value engineering, Bruns now believes this funding number to be $4.9M.

"Value engineering is where our team reviews the design and materials required for the project. We, then identify if there are alternate, less expensive routes to take," shared Steve Bruns, President of Bruns General Contracting.

As Bruns General Contracting works through the value engineering process as well as the creation of a construction schedule, members of Tipp Pride continue the march to fundraise.

"Our fundraising efforts have raised over $1.5 million in donations to begin this project," says Scott George, Vice-President of Tipp Pride, "but we still need funds to construct the home and visitor stands as well as the press-box and buildings."

The new community stadium project will replace the grass field with artificial turf and install new lights, stands, concession areas, locker rooms, press box, and scoreboard.

Scott George had the following to say about Bruns involvement with the project.

"Tipp Pride Association received bids from four qualified teams for this work. The goal of our bid process was to contract with a highly qualified team providing value at the right price." George continued, "It was also great to see the work go to a local company."

Contractors bidding on the work were encouraged to share how they would be open to engaging with local contractors that desired to provide their in-kind or significantly discounted construction services for this stadium construction project.

Bruns General Contracting has laid out a construction schedule from March 1 through August 1, and Tipp Pride Association is planning a ground-breaking ceremony in a number of weeks as work on this project begins.

While the Tipp Pride Association has raised a significant amount of money to begin this construction project, additional funds will be necessary to complete construction.

Partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA, saves Shawnee Local Schools more than $394,000 in utility costs over three years

TIPP CITY, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- When Shawnee Local Schools partnered with Energy Optimizers, USA, on an extensive energy management project in 2013, the district expected to save about $117,500 annually.

The numbers are in, and they show the district has outperformed expectations by more than $40,000 over a three-year period.

From June 2014 through May 2017, the district reduced its energy costs by more than $394,000. Electric consumption is down by 12.9 percent, and gas consumption is down by 12.7 percent. The savings are normalized, or adjusted to account for outliers in weather conditions and costs.

"With this project, the Shawnee Local Schools administration set out with a very clear goal of improving lighting and air quality while saving taxpayer dollars," said James Spyker, Shawnee Local Schools Facility Manager. "By investing in relatively simple and proven energy conservation measures, we have cut our utility bills by a staggering amount. This is great news for our district and our taxpayers, but most of all, for our students. The dollars we are saving have a direct impact on our classrooms."

The project, completed in May 2014, included energy-efficient upgrades to the district's interior and exterior lighting systems and computer systems; the installation of occupancy sensors and smart kitchen controls; and retrofits to the district's boilers and chillers.

The majority of the project was funded through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission's House Bill 264 program, enabling the district to make cost-cutting improvements at no expense to taxpayers while ensuring the guaranteed savings of the project were met or exceeded.

The amount of energy saved by the project is equivalent to removing more than 144 cars from the road or preserving more than 219 acres of trees, according to Greg Smith, president of Energy Optimizers, USA.

"By championing a smarter way to manage their energy use, Shawnee Local Schools' administration and Board of Education have demonstrated that they are focused on the health of their finances and their community," said Smith. Beavercreek High School earns milestone award in Energy Optimizers, USA-sponsored Healthy Schools Challenge

TIPP CITY, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- Beavercreek High School earned the first milestone award in the Healthy Schools Challenge, a component of the Bring Your Green Challenge 2.0 that is sponsored in part by Energy Optimizers, USA.

Developed and organized by Dayton Regional Green (DRG3), the Bring Your Green Challenge is a year-long competition that encourages participants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainability. Participants earn points by tracking their monthly energy, waste and water bills using online tools provided by DRG3. They can qualify for three quarterly milestone awards as they compete for the grand prize.

The first milestone focused on energy. Beavercreek High School students organized several events to promote energy conservation, including two student clean-air challenges and energy-focused employee challenges. Their efforts racked up 1,405 points, earning them the top spot for this segment of the competition.

Milestone winners were announced at a DRG Sustainability Luncheon on Nov. 15.

Trotwood-Madison City Schools secures Energy Star rating for two schools with assistance from Energy Optimizers, USA

TIPP CITY, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- Two elementary schools in the Trotwood-Madison City Schools district have attained the highly sought-after U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star certification with the assistance of Energy Optimizers, USA.

The schools, Madison Park Elementary and Westbrooke Village Elementary, join an elite group of high performing facilities. Energy Star certified buildings and plants perform in the top 25 percent of similar buildings nationwide. On average, these buildings use 35 percent less energy, generate 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions and are less expensive to operate than similar buildings.

The certification is the result of a district-wide upgrade to lighting and HVAC systems that Trotwood Schools completed in September 2015.

Springfield Local Schools to save more than $82,000 annually through partnership with Energy Optimizers, USA

TIPP CITY, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- Springfield Local School District is poised to launch an energy efficiency project with Energy Optimizers, USA that will save the district more than $82,000 in utility and operational costs annually.

Starting in August 2017, work will begin to upgrade the district's interior and exterior lighting, boilers and boiler controls, and kitchen equipment with more energy efficient systems. This energy efficiency project will include work at Springfield High School, Schrop Intermediate, and Spring Hill and Young Elementary Schools. LED lighting retrofits will be installed in the stadium restrooms.

This project is expected to yield a savings of more than $82,000 annually, which will enable the district to pay off the $775,000 project in just over 13 years.

"We will reduce our energy use and cut our utility bills, all without cost to our local taxpayers. The money we save will go right back into serving our students. The project will be funded through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission's House Bill 264 program, enabling the district to make these cost-cutting improvements at no expense to taxpayers while ensuring the guaranteed savings of the project are met or exceeded. The energy savings will be guaranteed by Energy Optimizers, USA, and the district and the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission will receive an annual report verifying the savings.

Dania Beach CRA Issues RFQ for Real Estate Developer for Downtown City Center

Energy Optimizers, USA, secures PACE funding for new long-term care facility

TIPP CITY, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- When it opens in late 2017, the Livingston Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Washington Township will be the first project in Ohio to install solar energy using PACE funding, an investment made possible with coordination from Energy Optimizers, USA.

PACE, or Property Assessed Clean Energy, funding enables property owners to pay for energy efficiency improvements to their properties and renewable energy installations by borrowing money through government loans or bonds. Funds can be used for new development or existing facilities.

The $20 million long-term care facility, currently well into construction, will replace an outdated building on a land-locked site in Dayton. The 150-kW solar installation will run up to 20 percent of the facility's electrical load, and the solar thermal will dramatically slash the costs associated with traditional hot water heaters. Both technologies are currently being installed at the site.

Other energy-efficient features include LED lighting, high efficiency HVAC systems, and thicker walls for more insulation. All of the components will work together to conserve energy and keep utility costs in check for the 100,000 square foot facility.
