A Defining Moment in Humanity: A Statement from Rob Hoskins, President of OneHope, on Pope Leo XIV’s Encyclical ‘Magnifica Humanitas’

We are living through one of the most consequential inflection points in human history

POMPANO BEACH, Fla., June 5, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The release of Pope Leo XIV’s encyclical letter, “Magnifica Humanitas,” arrives at a defining moment not only for the global Church but for the whole of human civilization, says Dr. Rob Hoskins, President and Co-founder of OneHope. As artificial intelligence rapidly reshapes communication, learning, relationships, and the very formation of identity, Pope Leo XIV names what the most serious voices across theology, ethics, and technology are beginning to say in unison: the deepest crisis before us is not technological, but anthropological and spiritual.

We are living through one of the most consequential inflection points in human history.

Artificial intelligence is reshaping how children and youth learn, how people connect, how truth is formed, and how identity itself is understood. I was invited by Anthropic to participate in a meeting where AI researchers, ethicists, and technologists openly discussed the moral weight of what they are building. What struck me most was not the sophistication of the technology, but the realization that the deepest questions emerging from the AI age are not ultimately technical questions, but theological questions. They are questions of dignity, purpose, truth, formation, and the story we believe our lives are part of.

In a moment like this, the Church cannot stand on the sidelines. We need moral clarity, rooted in the unchanging truth that every person is created in the image of God and carries inherent dignity, worth, and purpose that no algorithm can quantify and no model can replace or improve.

I believe technology can be an extraordinary instrument for good. It can open doors, expand access to God’s Word, strengthen learning, and help us reach the next generation in ways we never imagined possible. But technology was never meant to replace humanity or redefine it. When innovation moves faster than wisdom, people begin serving the systems created to serve them. Technology may assist human flourishing, but it can never replace the God-given role of parents, pastors, mentors, and the local church in the spiritual formation of the next generation.

As the leader of OneHope, a global ministry committed to engaging every child and youth with God’s Word, I believe the Church must guide the next generation to not only develop digital discernment but deep theological wisdom, forming young people who understand truth, human dignity, embodiment, purpose, and community through the lens of Scripture. In the age of AI, this is a foundational part of discipleship.

I affirm the “Magnifica Humanitas” warning against any technology that seeks to transcend or redefine what it means to be human. Human beings are not problems to be optimized away. We are image bearers of God, created for relationship with Him and with one another through Jesus Christ. That truth must be the immovable foundation of every conversation about artificial intelligence.

Artificial intelligence will inevitably amplify the values of those who build it and those who deploy it. That means the future of AI cannot be shaped solely by technology companies and market forces. The Church has something vital to contribute. For two thousand years, Christians have wrestled with questions of virtue, formation, community, dignity, and human flourishing. Those questions are now at the center of the AI conversation. I have been encouraged to meet technology leaders who genuinely want to engage these questions and invite voices from faith communities into the discussion. I believe this is an important opportunity for the Church to serve, and I am committed to standing in that space, helping bridge the conversation between faith and innovation in ways that serve and protect the next generation.

The age of AI does not need more innovation, but it does need wisdom. And the people of God have been stewarding wisdom for generations.

To global Church leaders: The formation of the next generation is happening right now with or without your voice. The values being embedded in artificial intelligence systems today will shape how billions of children learn, think, and understand what it means to be human for decades to come. You carry the theological wisdom, global reach, and moral authority to speak into this moment. We must convene, collaborate, engage, and refuse to surrender one of the most important formation questions of our time to voices that do not begin with the Author of humanity.

To next-generation pastors and ministry leaders: Preach this from your pulpits. Teach this in your classrooms. Weave it into your discipleship. Your children, your students, your young people are already being formed by AI systems, and they need more than screen time guidance. They need a robust, Scripture-rooted understanding of their identity as image-bearers of God, their purpose as people called to love and serve, and their resilience as disciples who know what is true when the world’s voices multiply and conflict. Do not wait until you feel fully equipped. The formation happening in your absence will not wait for your readiness.

To parents: You remain the most powerful formative influence in your child’s life, more powerful than any platform, model, or algorithm. No technology company, however sophisticated, can replicate what God has entrusted you. Be present and ask the hard questions about what your children are encountering online, in AI tools, and in the digital spaces shaping their self-understanding. Create room in your family’s rhythms for the conversations only you can have about faith, identity, truth, and what it truly means to flourish as a human being made in the image of God. The greatest gift you can give your child in the age of AI is a parent who is fully, unhurriedly, irreplaceably there.

To the technology community: Many of you understand the imperative of ethically shaped AI models. Many of you carry a genuine desire to build well and serve humanity. Faith leaders want to collaborate with you. But we also call you to the highest standard, one grounded not in metrics or market share, but in the dignity of the human person. Protect children by designing for flourishing, not for dependency. Be transparent about the values you are embedding in the systems you build. And invite the Church, with its long, hard-won wisdom about virtue, formation, and the meaning of being human, into genuine dialogue. This is an invitation to build wisely and faithfully in one of the most consequential moments of our time.

The moment to activate the global Christian community is now. We must move beyond concern into bold, coordinated, Spirit-led action for the sake of the next generation.

These artworks act as narratives, preserving memories and giving voice to the past.

Clyman's artistic journey is marked by solo exhibitions and featured works in the Miami Children's Museum permanent collection. An alumna of New World School of the Arts and Florida International University, she currently shares her artistic knowledge as a studio art instructor at Broward College and serves as the director of the Rosemary Duffy Larson Gallery.

Eventually, discovering she could paint directly on upholstery fabric and area rugs, she fell in love with this new medium. Through her artwork, she celebrates our uniqueness and imperfections, highlighting our strengths and beauty.

Lauren Georgia

Lauren Georgia is a digital artist and educator who creates immersive installations that blend reflective surfaces, light, and shadows into unique experiences. These environments focus on transformation, offering participants opportunities to confront their own reflections and perceptions of identity and self. A native of Detroit, Michigan, Viau attended Wayne State University on a fine arts scholarship. The COVID-19 pandemic rekindled his passion for art, inspiring him to channel his experiences into a vibrant and expressive body of work. As the father of triplets, Mark's life journey has been both dynamic and enriched by the joys of parenthood.

ALIGUORI

Nino Liguori has always enjoyed telling stories through his paintings, which are visual parables and allegories. His work alludes to art history, design, innovation, and humanity itself, intertwining fable and fact, imagination and realism. An art educator, he has worked with diverse socio-economic and racial groups in Broward County and was twice a finalist for Visual Arts Educator of the Year.

Liguori advanced his painting studies by obtaining a master's degree in Europe and Asia. He studied at The Academie de Beaux Arts in Paris, collaborated with art collectives in Rome, and learned brush and breathing techniques in East Asia. His artwork has been featured in New York Magazine and Hi-Fructose Magazine. Honoring both his Italian heritage and the storytelling nature of his work, he signs his paintings "ALIGUORI."

Symphonii Smith-Kennedy

Symphonii Smith-Kennedy fostered her artistic exploration in painting and self-discovery during her education at New World School of the Arts and through her art studio with Zero Empty Spaces. She utilizes art to explore her identity as a Black queer woman in today's world, drawing on her experiences, imagination, and fascination with fantasy to influence her work.

In addition, there will be a public involvement component where the Project Team will hold meetings with residents, business owners, and local economic development partners to understand perspectives on the City's potential. These immersive experiences, along with RMA's economic analysis tools, allow the team to develop an analysis that connects with and enhances a community's innate identity and character, while balancing financial and market feasibility with economic vibrancy and regulatory efficiency. The project is expected to be completed by October.

Located on Florida's Gulf Coast, Sarasota is a world-class community and a prime tourism destination. The City initiated this analysis to examine data which illustrates current and anticipated market conditions in order to differentiate the City from other local municipalities. The study has multiple objectives focused on highlighting Sarasota's competitive viability including identifying targeted industries, redevelopment opportunities, land availability, and workforce capability.

For this project, RMA will be partnering with RVi Planning + Landscape Architecture firm and Daedulus Advisory Services, a firm that specializes in Public Private Partnerships and Infrastructure.

RMA Expands Services to Support CRA Leaders on Compliance Issues

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- The award-winning economic development firm, Redevelopment Management Associates (RMA) is proud to announce an expansion of services supporting Community Redevelopment Agencies (CRAs) in the often gray area of statutory compliance. Due to the frequently misunderstood requirements of the CRA statute before, and the more restrictive change to the statute after 2019, once standard activities and expenditures within CRAs may now violate statutory restrictions on spending. To "Keep it Legal" RMA has welcomed longtime city attorney Claudia McKenna to their compliance team.

For more information, please visit https://rma.us.com/

"For decades, RMA has partnered with CRAs around the state, advancing their redevelopment planning," said Kim Briesemeister, RMA Principal. "With this new CRA compliance review service, RMA will examine current expenditures and educate CRA leaders about the best approach to avoid the danger zones that have resulted since the legislation change. To add to our already stellar team, we are pleased to announce that RMA will access the legal expertise of long time CRA attorney, Claudia McKenna."

Now, more than ever, CRAs need to demonstrate their compliance with statutory limitations on spending redevelopment trust fund dollars. Often a well-intentioned belief that an activity or expenditure is allowed results in the discovery that, in fact, the activity or expense violates the restrictions on spending in Sec. 163.387 F.S.

Whether it is marketing, special events, business attraction, code enforcement or job creation, it is imperative that CRAs avoid the pitfalls of spending trust fund dollars improperly. RMA's team has extensive experience with compliance and the need to amend CRA plans and budgets, as well as reconsider activities paid for by CRAs. RMA will offer a variety of services to help CRAs maintain statutory compliance including: Document Review of CRA Budgets & Plans, Identifying Alternatives and Making Plan Recommendations, and Updating CRA Plans for Compliance.

Led by long time CRA attorney, Claudia McKenna, and Sharon McCormick, RMA's Director of Information and Communications, our compliance team provides expert assistance in ensuring that your CRA meets the exacting requirements of Sec. 163.387(6) and spends trust fund dollars properly. A copy of the PowerPoint "Keep it Legal People" that Ms. McKenna and Ms. McCormick presented at the 2022 FRA Annual Conference about statutory compliance regarding marketing and special events is available on the RMA website, and the experts will be addressing this critical issue again at the 2023 conference.

Ms. McKenna is the former City Attorney for the City of West Palm Beach, a position she held from 2002 until her retirement in 2014. She joined the City Attorney's Office in 1996 as part of a multi-discipline team to assist with the ground-breaking CRA project that would become CityPlace. As City Attorney, Ms. McKenna advised the City Commission both as elected officials of the City, and in their capacity as the CRA Board of Commissioners. She participated in numerous successful and innovative CRA initiatives that allowed the City of West Palm Beach to eliminate much of its slum and blight and enjoy the renaissance it experiences today. Following her retirement, Ms. McKenna was hired by the City of Pompano Beach in 2015 to serve as the City's CRA Attorney. She continues to work with the Pompano Beach CRA advising the CRA Board and staff on all matters affecting Pompano Beach's two CRA districts.

McNab House & Botanical Gardens Awarded $1.5 Million in Grants – Pompano Beach CRA Announces Next Phase of Redevelopment

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Pompano Beach CRA is proud to announce that the McNab House & Botanical Gardens project has been awarded two prestigious grants totaling $1.5 million. The Cultural Facilities Program Grant has awarded $500,000 for the construction of the botanical gardens and children's classroom, while the $1 million Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Program Grant will go towards outdoor recreational use of the site. These grants will facilitate the progress of this historic preservation and economic development project, with further advances coming with the September announcement of the architectural firm that will be awarded this project.

"We are honored to have been awarded these significant grants, which attest to the importance of this project," said Nguyen Tran, CRA Director. "The McNab House and Botanical Gardens will create a destination venue which will have a positive economic impact on our City. These grants will help us continue developing our vision of a world-class experience for residents and visitors alike."

The CRA relocated the McNab House and garage to its namesake park located on the main commercial corridor of Pompano Beach for adaptive reuse as a restaurant and botanical garden. The LWCF grant will specifically go towards the construction of pathways, an interactive water feature, playground elements, seating, landscaping, restrooms, and design and engineering fees for the McNab House and Botanical Gardens Project, and the Cultural Facilities grant will support the building of the children's classroom and the botanical gardens.

These grants are part of the next phase of this project, which will be advancing with the announcement of the architectural firm. An RFQ was announced for architectural design services several months ago and received five respondents. An evaluation committee scored the respondents, and a recommendation for the highest scoring architect will be brought forth at the CRA September board meeting. With board approval, the site plan process will continue along with restauranteur operator negotiations. Additional opportunities to provide public input will be available in the future.

The McNab House, built in 1926, was moved from its original location on Atlantic Boulevard, when the owners sold the land for development. With the support of the Pompano Beach Historical Society, the Pompano Beach CRA saved the historic home, moving it several blocks to McNab Park, with the vision of transforming the home into a restaurant and the surrounding land into a botanical garden. The goal of the McNab House & Botanical Gardens project is to continue economic growth within the East CRA and Atlantic Boulevard corridor. Activation of the public space will encourage more pedestrian activity and create a unique attraction for residents and visitors to enjoy.

About the Pompano Beach CRA:

The CRA was created in 1989. It has two independent districts: Northwest CRA and East CRA established by City government for the purpose of carrying out redevelopment activities that include reducing or eliminating blight, improving the economic health of an area, and encouraging public and private investments in a CRA district.

The CRA is funded through Tax Increment Financing (TIF). The funds are collected as property values increase and a portion of that increase is captured by the Agency. TIF raises revenue for redevelopment efforts without raising taxes.

City of Pompano Beach and its CRA Issue Invitation to Negotiate to Master Developers Globally

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- The City of Pompano Beach (City) and the Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) have issued an Invitation to Negotiate (ITN) for a Master Developer to help the City and CRA create a new Downtown and realize the vision of an exciting destination for businesses, residents, tourists, and other investment stakeholders.

In preparation for this ITN, the CRA hired globally acclaimed real estate firm CBRE as the exclusive agent to broadly market the opportunity and analyze responses for a Master Real Estate Developer for the +/-75.38-acres of publicly-owned land assemblages along the I-95 corridor. The City and CRA hope to secure a development partner by September 2022 and begin implementation of the new Downtown in 2023.

Responses are due on August 31, 2022 by 2 p.m. ET; details at https://pompanobeachfl.ionwave.net/

"Pompano Beach has become a red-hot real estate market for quality developers looking for sites for new projects. The investment the City and CRA has made in the public realm is attracting good growth partners and shining a light on this gem of a city in South Florida," said Nguyen Tran, CRA Director.

Located in Broward County between Palm Beach and Miami Dade Counties, Pompano Beach is looking to capture the influx of new development interest flocking to the State of Florida. With land assemblies ranging in size from +/- .2 - 8.35 acres, the large amount of acreage is a unique opportunity to build on the foundation the City and CRA have laid for development of the new Downtown. A commuter rail stop is planned in the middle of the Downtown area and will connect the four intersections of Downtown where redevelopment is already occurring. Two new luxury apartment projects, restaurants and cultural buildings were all drawn to the area based on aggressive public investment by the City and its CRA. The public investments included a new $50 million beachfront, garage and pier, a $180 million bond for citywide public improvements, land use and zoning upgrades, infrastructure and streetscape improvements, and entitlements and availability of land for residential, hotel and commercial development.

"In Pompano Beach, we have a historic opportunity to create a thriving downtown from the ground up," said Nguyen Tran, CRA Director. "There are very few cities nationwide with the ability to develop a new vision and trajectory for their city. With this project, Pompano Beach will be creating an economic driver for decades to come, one that will brand our city as a hub for technology, arts & culture, shopping, and nightlife."

Downtown Pompano Beach includes four quadrants: The Old Town District, also known as Old Pompano; The Civic Commons District, which includes City Hall, the library, and Cultural Center; the Innovation District, with MLK Boulevard as the "main street" between Dixie Highway and I-95; and a residential area.

Pompano Beach CRA announces RFP: Seeks Restaurant Operator for New Florida Destination

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Pompano Beach CRA has announced a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a Master Operator to renovate the historic McNab House and garage, construct a new kitchen, improve the surrounding area for outdoor dining, and design the dining program. The nationwide search invites commercial real estate professionals, with their restaurateur partners, and professional restaurant operators to submit proposals.

The solicitation documents can be downloaded for free from the eBid System as a PDF at: https://pompanobeachfl.ionwave.net. The proposal deadline is June 9, 2022 by 2 p.m.

"We are creating a world-class botanical garden which will attract visitors who support the restaurants with traditional dining, in addition to a variety of special events including weddings and educational tours," said Nguyen Tran, CRA Director. "This is a tremendous opportunity for the right operator to work with us in developing a key element of this forthcoming Florida destination."

The McNab House is an iconic 1926 structure that was moved and restored to become the centerpiece of the botanical garden. The CRA will consider proposers that respond to the initial phase ("Phase 1") of the project: the McNab House and garage operations, which include the outdoor patio dining, kitchen annex building, and loading area. Proposers are encouraged to define their vision for all aspects of the project including "Phase 2", which includes the tea house, event facilities, and other amenities. The CRA has divided the project into phases so operations may begin at the restaurant while the remainder of the botanical garden is designed, funded, and built.

The CRA's consultants, Bermello Ajamil, and Partners ("B & A"), produced a Conceptual Master Plan for the entire Botanical Gardens; however, specific uses and locations remain flexible pending involvement of the Master Operator.

The shortage of qualified workers in the construction industry continues to be a persistent national issue, but Current Builders' CFO Rick Colandreo believes that initiatives, such as his company's recently launched ESOP, will place his firm in an advantageous position to meet the tremendous demand for multifamily and mixed-use housing in Florida.

"According to the state's CFO, Jimmy Patronis, almost 1,000 people a day have been moving to Florida, so the need for new construction is enormous," stated Colandreo, whose firm has offices in both the east and west coasts of Florida. "To meet this demand, we felt that creating a benefit-rich environment for our employees was essential. After months of research and consulting with leading professionals in the realm, Current Builders is proud to have launched this employee stock ownership plan."

As CFO, Colandreo is tasked with long-term planning for the company, including succession planning and expanding opportunities for growth. After conducting a valuation of the company, reviewing past performance and the future potential, Colandreo and CEO Michael Taylor approached the partners about selling a percentage of their shares to launch the ESOP. The partners retained 51.2% of the company, therefore allowing 48.8% of the stock to be sold in the ESOP.

Credits will be allocated to employees based upon longevity and salary. Eligibility begins after one year of employment and is open to a wide range of employees, including hourly laborers, receptionists and all levels of management, as long as the key criteria have been met. This program is above and beyond Current Builders' already generous benefit programs which include a 401k, health insurance, disability insurance, life insurance and a bonus program.

"We chose an ESOP because it rewards diligence and loyalty," continued Colandreo. "Employees who remain with our firm long-term will reap tremendous financial benefits and will feel an even greater sense of pride because they are not just a person who works for a construction company, they are a part-owner of Current Builders."

Malcolm-Jamal Warner Joins Exit 36 Slam Poetry Festival as Celebrity Judge

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- Pompano Beach Arts is proud to announce that television icon Malcolm-Jamal Warner is joining the fourth annual "Exit 36 Slam Poetry Festival" as a celebrity judge. The famed star of "The Cosby Show" and current hit "The Resident" will also be performing his poetry at the festival and sharing thoughts about his career during an Artist Talk.

The three-day event attracts the premier spoken word artists in the country and will take place December 9-11, 2021 at the City's cultural venues. Event details and tickets are available at https://www.pompanobeacharts.org/exit36.

"We are honored that actor and poet Malcolm-Jamal Warner will be a judge at this year's festival. His participation will shine the national spotlight on an event that is growing in prestige every year," said Phyllis Korab, Director, Cultural Affair Department. "Warner stole our hearts as a lovable Huxtable kid in the 80s and is now gaining raves as Dr. Andre Jeremiah Austin on the hit show 'The Resident.' But many do not realize the acclaimed actor is also a leading voice in the spoken word realm."

Warner, who is a Grammy(R) Award-winner, has tackled many important issues with his spoken word performances including problems with the penal system and in 2020 he chronicled life as a black man with his film "Word Warriors III."

Warner has said, "Poetry had always been a huge part of my life. My father went to Lincoln University with Gil Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson, so I literally came out of the womb listening to Gil Scott-Heron. So, poetry's always been a huge part of the expression of self."

The Exit 36 Slam Poetry Festival was founded by Eccentrich, one of the top-ranking female poets in the country. She developed the platform to serve the community through educational, theatrical, and literary performances. The festival showcases local, regional, and nationally recognized poets, while educating and encouraging self-expression in local youth.

"Now more than ever, spoken word artists are shaping the cultural and social dialogue in our country," said Eccentrich. "This form of expression empowers those who have felt unheard, providing platform to address both deeply personal situations and larger global issues. We are excited to return for our fourth year, and we look forward working with a dynamic group of participants."

RMA Real Estate Services Brokers Sale of Pelican Harbor Marina for City of Palm Bay

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- RMA Real Estate Services, a division of the economic development firm RMA (www.rma.us.com), is proud to announce the successful sale of a prime commercial property on behalf of the City of Palm Bay. RMA's senior broker Bill Dehlinger, CCIM handled the transaction for the City, which resulted in Space Coast Marinas purchasing three parcels of land known as Pelican Harbor Marina for $1.7 million. The almost seven acres will be redeveloped to include a boat launch, public boardwalk, a marina, and restaurant.

"We are honored to have brokered this real estate transaction for the City of Palm Bay and the Bayfront Community Redevelopment Agency," said Bill Dehlinger. "The sale of this property will usher in the revitalization of Bayfront Village."

In 2015, Bayfront Community Redevelopment Agency (BCRA) applied for and won a Competitive Florida grant from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. The City used the grant to hire RMA to perform a scope of work that included market analysis, public input, and development of an economic development strategy and action plan. At that time, RMA found that Pelican Harbor Marina, with access to the Intracoastal Waterway and Indian River Lagoon, was a prime catalyst for future development of Bayfront Village.

"This is an exciting development project for the City," said Joan Junkala-Brown, Deputy City Manager. "The proposed development will add value to what currently exists and further create an environment for residents and visitors to gather, eat, shop, and listen to live music whether arriving by boat or vehicle."

"This project is a prime example of RMA's synergistic services at work," said Chris Brown, RMA Principal and Co-founder. "From vision to implementation, our team created the strategy for redevelopment and then secured the developer who will launch this catalytic project. We are very proud of our work with Palm Bay and look forward to the creation of a magnificent new waterfront village."

About RMA:

Founded in 2009 by Kim Briesemeister and Chris Brown, RMA is comprised of a phenomenal team of leading experts in economic development, real estate for governments, marketing, urban design, and financial analysis. RMA, headquartered in Pompano Beach, Florida is a highly experienced, full-service economic redevelopment consulting and management firm, specializing in revitalizing core areas and corridors for cities, counties, and special districts nationwide. The co-founders are also the authors of one of the definitive books about city redevelopment, "Reinventing Your City: 8 Steps to Turn Your City Around."
