ACES Quality Management Makes HousingWire Tech100 List of Most Innovative Mortgage Technology Companies for Seventh Consecutive Year

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management™ (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, today announced it has been included in the 2021 HousingWire Tech100 Mortgage list, featuring the most innovative and revolutionary companies in the mortgage industry. This is the seventh consecutive year ACES has been included on the Tech100 list.

This year, HousingWire recognized ACES' response to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the overall efficiencies delivered by its flagship product ACES Quality Management and Control Software™. In early 2020, ACES created a new question set category within its platform so that users could quickly and easily find all of the temporary regulatory provisions issued by state and federal agencies and the GSEs in response to COVID-19. In addition, ACES' pre-funding, post-closing and servicing audit pack, as well as its reporting dashboard and managed questions, have helped lenders reduce their audit turn times from five to 1.5 days, saving roughly 16 FTE hours per month.

"At ACES Quality Management, our goal is to ease the burden for our customers meeting regulatory demands by keeping our compliance database and managed question sets as up-to-date as possible while also delivering an intuitive, streamline user interface that makes loan auditing a breeze," said ACES CEO Trevor Gauthier. "We are relentlessly focused on creating solutions to providing lenders with best-in-class quality control functionality, and we're incredibly thankful to HousingWire for honoring those efforts by including ACES on this year's Tech100 list."

According to the publication, "The Tech100 program provides housing professionals with a list of the most innovative and impactful companies that can be leveraged to identify partners and solutions to the problems that mortgage lenders and real estate professionals face everyday...For the second year in a row, the Tech100 program was divided into the HW Tech100 Mortgage and the HW Tech100 Real Estate to highlight the innovation and achievements of organizations within both sectors."

"After the uncertainty and unpredictability of last year, we expected a greater adoption of technology. However, these 100 real estate and mortgage companies took digital disruption to a whole new level and propelled a complete digital revolution, leaving a digital legacy that will impact borrowers, clients and companies for years to come," said Brena Nath, HousingWire's HW+ Managing Editor. "Knowing what these companies were able to navigate and overcome, we're excited to announce this year's list of the most innovative technology companies serving the mortgage and real estate industries."

USBI Applauds Biochar Funding from Microsoft’s $1 Billion Climate Innovation Fund

GOLDEN, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- The United States Biochar Initiative (USBI) applauds Microsoft's funding for three projects that use biochar for atmospheric carbon removal. The three biochar projects were selected from 189 projects that the company evaluated for funding. Microsoft made awards to 15 suppliers, representing more than 1.3 million mt [metric tons] of atmospheric CO2 removals.

Biochar, a family of porous charcoals, slows global warming when used for amending soils, managing nutrients, animal feed, water and air filtration, odor control, green infrastructure, turf, trees, landscaping, building materials, and asphalt and concrete.

USBI Executive Director Tom Miles notes that Microsoft's choice of biochar affirms the conclusions of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report and The Nature Conservancy's research that biochar is one of the most scalable and cost-effective ways to remove atmospheric carbon. Miles says, "USBI believes that Microsoft's leadership reflects growing interest from funders looking to invest in this promising, carbon-sequestering product."

Miles adds, "Biochar is a 'shovel ready natural climate solution. Its many modern variations have evolved from the centuries-old practice of combining charcoal with food waste to improve the health of poor clayey soils. In all of its over 55 identified uses, biochar can sequester carbon for centuries or longer."

In their new report, entitled "Microsoft carbon removal: Lessons from an early corporate purchase," the hi-tech giant notes that it is one of the "first corporations to conduct due diligence on carbon removal procurement... As a global society we must also remove large amounts of carbon from the atmosphere, to avert the worst social, economic, and environmental impacts of a rapidly changing climate."

USBI is an 11-year-old 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, promoting the sustainable production and use of biochar in North America through research, policy, and technology.

Eagle River Energy Advisors Announces Sell-Side Engagement of Core Producing ORRI Assets – Bakken Shale, North Dakota

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- Eagle River Energy Advisors, LLC ("Eagle River") is pleased to announce the sell-side engagement by a private company, seeking the divestment of certain ORRI assets located in Dunn, McLean, McKenzie & Mountrail Counties, North Dakota. The ORRI assets are located on the Ft. Berthold Indian Reservation and are diversified across 60 DSUs with a footprint of ~137,000 gross DSU acres and ~300 producing oil and gas wells. Additionally, the ORRI assets have averaged ~$2.4MM of cash flow per year over the past decade.

QEP Resources is the largest operator of the ORRI assets with ~177 PDP horizontal wells. WPX Energy is the second largest operator with 59 PDP Horizontal wells.

"Our team is pleased to serve another client with a high-quality royalty asset in the Williston Basin. These specific ORRI assets are located in the heart of the Bakken / Three Forks play, which continues to provide some of the best drilling economics of any shale play in the country."

"Since inception, Eagle River has successfully closed 29 transactions in the Williston Basin comprising approximately $500 million in transaction value. The Williston Basin remains a focus area for our team at Eagle River given our technical expertise and track record of success in the basin. We believe the Williston Basin continues to provide some of the best risk-adjusted returns in the U.S. oil and gas industry given (i) its oil-weighted production profile, (ii) the low-risk nature of its development given the well-defined geologic fairways of the Bakken / Three Forks formations resulting from over a decade of horizontal drilling and (iii) a favorable regulatory environment in North Dakota. With EURs in the core of the Williston now exceeding 1 MMBOE and well costs currently below $7MM (two-mile laterals) for many operators, the drilling economics at $50+ oil are compelling. Add to the equation the recent announcements from the Biden administration regarding leasing and permitting on federal lands, we believe the Williston Basin will remain the premier location for companies seeking oil-weighted resource play investment opportunities in the Rockies."

Bids for the ORRI assets referenced in this press release are due February 24, 2020.

Kiosk Industry Association (KMA) Announces New ADA Accessibility and EMV Initiatives

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Kiosk Association announces initiatives for Kiosk EMV and Kiosk ADA.

EMV Initiative - As a Participating Organization with the PCI SSC, KMA encourages deployment of EMV devices (PCI certified) for CATs (Cardholder Activated Terminals). The problem has been companies attempting to try and reposition web non-EMV shopping carts into a self-order terminal using just a standard magstripe reader.

On ADA Accessibility - to kick off the new initiative the Kiosk Association has released a free 14 Point Kiosk ADA Checklist. This is a distillation of the Kiosk ADA Framework (Mandatory + Code of Practice) released to U.S. Access Board in 2019.

The initiative follows U.S. Access Board conference call in January introducing new Executive Director. A follow-up call in March is set. The intent of our initiative is to properly align the initial design process so that by default accessibility is accommodated, and not reduced to potential options dismissed or not explored. Like EMV, this also is impacted by casual relocation of web ordering which has not been optimized for accessibility onto self-service terminals.

Critical Defect Rate Highest Since 2018, Per ACES Quality Management Q2 2020 Mortgage QC Trends Report

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management(TM) (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced the release of its quarterly ACES Mortgage QC Trends Report covering the second quarter (Q2) of 2020. The latest report provides an analysis of post-closing quality control data derived from ACES Quality Management & Control Software(TM).

Notable findings from the Q2 2020 report include:

* The overall critical defect rate of 1.88% is the highest quarterly rate since 2018.

* Defect increase was driven primarily by a 64% increase in the Income/Employment category.

* While defects were down in the overall majority of categories, three of the four key borrower qualification categories saw significant defect rate increases compared to Q1 2020.

* The share of conventional and refinance loans continues to skyrocket.

* Early Payment Defaults (EPD) increased 197% through Sept 2020 compared to last year.

"While evidence of COVID-19's impact on loan quality was present in the Q1 data, Q2 is where 'The COVID Effect' becomes truly apparent, resulting in the highest critical defect rate observed since Q4 2018," said ACES Executive Vice President Nick Volpe. "One of the biggest drivers of this increase was the rise in Income/Employment-related defects - a wholly unsurprising outcome given the challenges nearly all employers faced in transitioning to a remote working environment."

"In many respects, the mortgage industry and the world at large remain in a "wait-and-see" mode. As such, we expect higher than normal volatility in the critical defect rate for the remaining quarters of 2020 and into 2021, though loan volumes should remain high next year thanks to the ongoing low-interest-rate environment," Volpe added.

Findings for the Q2 2020 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report are based on post-closing quality control data from over 90,000 unique loans and are categorized using the Fannie Mae loan defect taxonomy. All reviews and defect data evaluated for the report were based on loan audits selected by lenders for full file reviews.

"We are still seeing a tremendous increase overall in EPDs as compared to 2019, making it too early to predict when EPDs will peak. Any continued rise is likely to exacerbate long-term default and loss rates, signaling that lenders must remain vigilant of the risks this might pose to their organizations," said ACES CEO Trevor Gauthier. "By increasing visibility into loan quality and introducing functionality specifically designed to accommodate the COVID-related changes to compliance regulations, ACES arms lenders with powerful quality control technology needed to manage that risk as they approach the great unknowns of the year ahead."

ACES executives will analyze the findings from the Q2 2020 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report and offer insights into what lenders can expect in future quarters during a webinar titled, "Insights into Mortgage QC Trends - First Signs of the COVID Effect," as part of its on-going QC NOW Web Series. To sign up for January 14, 2021 webinar, click here.

ACES Quality Management Makes Key Loan Audit Platform Upgrades to Elevate User Experience for Lending Institutions

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management(TM) (ACES), the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced the release of several key features and enhancements to its ACES Quality Management & Control Software(TM). The updates are designed to improve reporting through the system and create a highly customizable, easy-to-use experience.

Commonly reported data is now readily available for reporting directly in the ACES user interface (UI) through a library of standard reports. With a simpler, yet flexible and intuitive user experience and more options to customize their ACES environments, users can quickly and easily create their own reports or modify default reports to drill down on specific data points, as well as apply filters, sort columns and set order preferences.

"With higher loan volumes comes a higher risk of compromises to loan quality, increasing the need to utilize technology that mitigates risk while boosting productivity and quality," ACES CEO Trevor Gauthier said. "The newest enhancements to ACES' user interface and reporting functionality are part of our ongoing strategic initiative to improve direct access to live data. Whether lenders need to quickly distribute reports or better understand their productivity, ACES improves their efficiency while providing better control over quality and costs."

In addition, ACES has updated the look and feel of its UI to align the aesthetic elements of the ACES Quality Management & Control Software with the company's recent rebrand while maintaining the same core functionality and data analysis capabilities familiar to ACES users. The new and improved layout features independently scrolling sections, drag-and-drop items, improved menu navigation and simplification of users' ability to brand their environments. Upgrades to the UI and reporting were driven by client research and feedback from ACES users.

"Soliciting user feedback is an invaluable step in our process of continuously adapting our system to fit lenders' ever-changing needs," Gauthier said. "We strive to continue delivering the most flexible technology on the market for improving audit efficiency, boosting team productivity and helping lenders make better-informed decisions across lines of business, and in service of that goal, ACES invested in a team whose sole purpose is to continuously modernize our technology and improve the user experience."

Carbon Credit Cart (carboncreditcart.com) offers the simplest way to balance carbon-generating activities at home, work, and from leisure activities with carbon credits that fund registered carbon mitigation projects.

"Carbon credits to offset everyday carbon-producing activities cost less than most people think, and now we've made them easier to buy," says Hans Bjordahl, Co-Founder and CEO. "Whether it's an airplane flight, a package delivery, household energy use, or a business activity, you can buy carbon credits to balance your climate impact and pick the specific carbon mitigation projects you'd like to fund."

Carbon Credit Cart also offers carbon credit gift cards. "We hope people will find the gift of carbon credits to be the perfect holiday choice for friends and family," says Bjordahl. "With prices starting as low as $10 to offset an entire metric tonne of carbon, that's a pretty good stocking stuffer."

Carbon offset projects available on Carbon Credit Cart span the globe, from the Southern Cardamom rainforest in Cambodia to Afognak Island in Alaska, USA. "Every project tells a story, and we want people to connect with projects that are meaningful to them," says Co-Founder and CCO Trevor Dodd.

Features and benefits of Carbon Credit Cart include:

* Consumers can now buy affordable carbon credits for themselves, family and friends, and employees from a selection of registered carbon mitigation projects from around the globe.

* Purchasers receive a certificate confirming their carbon credits purchase that includes the registered serial numbers for those retired carbon credits to ensure that carbon credits are only sold once.

* Carbon credit gift cards are an easy and thoughtful way to engage others while helping the planet this holiday season.

Carbon Credit Cart is available starting November 23, 2020, for as little as $10 per carbon credit. One carbon credit offsets 1 metric tonne of carbon.

The contest launched in January of 2020 and due to the pandemic school shutdowns, the entry deadline was extended to October 15, 2020.

Edward Jones Financial Advisor Keith Eckhardt Says Plan for the Expected – and the Unexpected

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- Colorado Springs investors preparing for or living in retirement need to plan for the expected while preparing for the unexpected − and position their investment portfolios for both, says Keith Eckhardt, an Edward Jones Advisor in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

How can one plan for the expected?

"First, envision your retirement lifestyle," Eckhardt says. "Do you plan on traveling the world? Or will you stay close to home, volunteering and pursuing your hobbies? Perhaps you'll even work part−time in some capacity."

Once investors know what their retirement might look like, they can put a "price tag" on it, even if it's only an estimate, he adds.

"Try to contribute as much as possible to your retirement accounts, such as your 401(k) and your IRA," says Eckhardt. "Then, as you near retirement, you'll have to calculate how much you can withdraw from your portfolio each year without running out of money and determine if your spending habits are suitable for the amount of income you can count on from your retirement plans, Social Security and other sources."

The "unexpected" factors − those variables that will affect one's retirement costs and lifestyle − investors should consider include:

Inflation − Over time, even a relatively mild inflation rate can decrease one's purchasing power and erode the value of investments, particularly the fixed−income ones.

Market volatility − No one can really predict when the financial markets will move up or down, or how big these movements will be, but they will occur and could affect an unbalanced portfolio.

Health care − As one gets older, health care costs almost certainly rise, but the size of this increase is difficult to forecast.

Longevity − One doesn't know exactly how long he or she will live, but longevity will have a big impact on spending and investment decisions during retirement.

According to Eckhardt, investors can position their portfolios for the expected and unexpected by achieving balance, specifically balancing the needs for growth and income.

"During your working years, you may need to focus more on growth−oriented investments, within the context of your individual risk tolerance, your time horizon and your specific goals," Eckhardt said. "Even when you retire, you'll need growth potential in your portfolio to cope with inflation and rising health care costs."

Retirees also have to think a lot more about their spending decisions, Eckhardt, so they will need a certain percentage of their portfolio devoted to income−oriented vehicles.

"Your financial advisor can help you find the right balance in your investments, both before and during retirement," said Eckhardt. "And along the way, you'll likely need to adjust your portfolio in response to changes in your life. But if you keep the big picture in mind by planning for the expected while preparing for the unexpected, you can work toward achieving the retirement that you've envisioned and that you deserve."

Beverage Metrics Announces Launch of Next Generation Beverage Management System for the Hospitality Industry

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- Beverage Metrics®, an emerging Colorado-based beverage management technology company for the hospitality industry, today announced the launch of its next generation beverage management inventory tracking system. The new system provides operators with a comprehensive tool to track, manage and reduce excessive costs associated with their beverage program.

Created for the hospitality industry, the Beverage Metrics system helps track an operator's bar inventory and simplifies order management with suppliers. The system also provides beverage pour monitoring functionality which enables real-time, perpetual inventory, a significant need in an operator's ability to track shrinkage and bar inventory costs.

"Keeping a weekly or monthly inventory gives an operator a clear picture of what's on hand, what they are running out of or what's not selling," said company CEO, Dan Grimm. "Comparing this to what was sold gives operators a key metric - the variance between sold and consumed. This POS-based perpetual inventory has been the cornerstone of beverage management for the past decade. Add real-time pour depletions from our state-of-the-art pour monitoring system and it's a game changer."

In 2019, Beverage Metrics brought aboard two co-founders (Dan Grimm and Dean Grimm) from AccuBar®, the beverage management industry leader for the last fifteen years, to lead development of their all-new beverage management system. These well-regarded hospitality veterans, each with over twenty years' experience in the industry, completely reimagined the Beverage Metrics' system, providing increased functionality while leveraging the latest development technologies.

Features of the new system include:

* Quick, easy and accurate inventory using barcodes and patent-pending bottle profiles along with product images

* Track inventory from point of delivery by single bottle or case(s)

* Automatically track inventory that's moved from storage to a sales location

* System generates and prepares an order recommendation for review and submittal to suppliers

* Beverage Metrics Bottle Sensor provides value whether the container is open or not; other spout-based technologies only work once a bottle is opened

* Pour monitoring functionality automatically depletes poured beverages from on-hand inventory, thus maintaining a real-time, perpetual inventory

* Streamlined POS integration with recipe auto-substitutions

Colorado Doctors of Optometry Announce Public Health Initiative to Keep Eye Emergencies Out of Emergency Rooms This Winter

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- Doctors of optometry across Colorado, 2020 Eyes Colorado, and the Colorado Optometric Association (COA) have launched an October awareness initiative to educate Coloradans on Eye Emergencies: Where to Go and What to Do. This health information is currently important for Colorado communities and populations vulnerable to COVID-19 as the state approaches a possible surge in COVID-19 cases during winter.

The HPI analysis of Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) data shows that eye emergencies make up 1% of emergency room cases and of those reported cases 98.9% could have been handled by a local optometrist in clinic or via telehealth (*note 1). Many practices offer after hours care to address eye care emergencies making it even easier for patients to avoid emergency rooms.

COA Board President, Dr. Tom Cruse says, "During the March/April shutdown our doctors of optometry were able to stop most eye emergency cases from going to urgent care and emergency facilities, which clearly assisted in slowing the virus spread and reducing individual exposure. As usual, optometrists still have the ability to treat emergency eye cases and we want every Coloradan to know how to use our emergency services for their own health and safety."

The CDC National Syndromic Surveillance Program (NSSP) reported that overall emergency room visits declined 42% early in the pandemic, but the viral infection cases quadrupled making emergency facilities a potential risk for many Coloradans including populations that are more vulnerable to a viral infection (*note 2). Optometry's vulnerable patient population is impacted by diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease, which are known to complicate COVID-19 cases (*note 3).

The October public health initiative is taking place on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter using #2020EyesColorado and at 2020EyesColorado.org. Colorado optometry practices across the state have also geared up to join the initiative on social media to help spread the word in their own communities.

To learn more about what to do in an eye emergency, read the newly released 2020 Eyes Colorado article Eye Emergencies: Where to Go and What to Do! - https://2020eyescolorado.org/eye-emergencies-pr/

You will learn:

* Symptoms that need immediate attention from an optometrist

* Symptoms that need an eye exam soon

* Emergencies an eye doctor can treat and what to do at home

* How to find an optometrist

About the Colorado Optometric Association (COA):

The Colorado Optometric Association (COA) is the professional organization of optometrists in Colorado. Over 600 Colorado Doctors of Optometry are voluntary members of the Association. COA has also launched a public health campaign called 2020 Eyes Colorado.

A Little-known WWI Anniversary Celebrates America’s Humanitarian Roots

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- On Oct. 22, 1914, less than three months after the start of World War I, one of the largest food-relief programs the world has ever seen was begun when the Commission for Relief in Belgium (CRB) was founded in London by a group of prominent Americans, according to Jeffrey B. Miller, author of a new nonfiction book, "Yanks behind the Lines: How the Commission for Relief in Belgium Saved Millions from Starvation during World War I" (ISBN 978-1538141649; Rowman & Littlefield). The book chronicles the CRB, the CRB delegates, and Belgium under the harsh German rule.

The CRB, working with its counterpart in Belgium, the Comite National (CN), fed nearly 10 million Belgians and northern French behind German lines for four years as the "Great War" took the lives of more than 9 million soldiers. The CRB bought, shipped and delivered food through an English blockade into German-occupied Belgium. Thirty to 50 relief ships were in transit every day. From Rotterdam the food was transferred to more than 300 canal barges and brought into Belgium via its canal system. The food was then distributed by more than 40,000 Belgians working with the CN.

"Americans were enthusiastic supporters of the CRB in 1914. Today few have heard the name, let alone the story," says Miller.

The CRB was founded and led by Herbert C. Hoover, who became known after the war as the "Great Humanitarian," and later became America's 31st president (1929-1933), in part because of his leadership of the CRB and the post-war American Relief Administration (ARA). The privately operated CRB was funded by worldwide donations and government subsidies from America, Britain, France and Belgium and spent nearly $1 billion in 1914 dollars (approximately $25 billion today).

"This was a much more lasting and complex and diplomatically unprecedented initiative than anything that might arise from a temporary crisis," says George H. Nash, Hoover biographer and author of several volumes about him. "The CRB/CN relief effort was organized across the entire country of Belgium; every community was fed, every civilian had to receive assistance. That's what makes the CRB stand apart from everything that came before it in the way of humanitarian intervention."

Ultimately, the CRB also helped change the way Americans saw themselves and how the world saw America.

"The CRB is significant to everybody who cares about humanitarian relief because it was a turning point in history," says Margaret Hoover, great-granddaughter of Hoover and host of PBS's Firing Line with Margaret Hoover. "It was the moment where international relief became operationally effective on such a massive scale. Nobody had thought that an individual could take on the feeding of an entire nation in the middle of a world war. This totally transformed what America realized it could do in terms of its own role in the world. America had a role in the world-not only to achieve success and freedom and welfare for its own people, but then it could give back to the rest of the world."

That shift in perspective happened not only in America but around the world. "The good will and humanitarian aid created by the CRB's work-and later by the work of the American Relief Administration after the war-engendered a worldwide feeling that America could be a benefactor of humanitarian aid on a scale never seen before," says Branden Little, scholar of humanitarian relief and professor of history at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.

For Hoover personally, the CRB meant a transformation from successful mining engineer to a man admired around the world. According to historian Nash, "Hoover became an international hero. How were people becoming heroes in WWI? Mostly as soldiers on the battlefield, or great generals organizing victories on the battlefields, or civilian world leaders. Hoover made his reputation not by killing people or organizing warfare, but by saving people from the consequences of warfare."

About the author, the book, and the publisher:

Based in Denver, Colo., Jeffrey B. Miller is a journalist and public historian who has written three books that were named Best Books of the Year (one with Publishers Weekly, two with Kirkus Reviews). He has spent the last 10 years researching and writing about the CRB, CN, and German-occupied Belgium. "Yanks behind the Lines" summarizes the story of the CRB thematically with chapters dedicated to all the critical issues. Individual personal stories are interwoven into the big picture to create a compelling read about this little-known but hugely important humanitarian program.

Matthew Wimmer, DMD is Now Offering Rapid Relief for Patients Who Snore

CENTENNIAL, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- Dr Matthew Wimmer is now offering Solea(R) Sleep, a new laser therapy that provides rapid relief for snoring. This simple, non-surgical procedure takes only 5 minutes to perform, and allows patients to return to their normal routine immediately after the office visit with little to no discomfort.

"With so many of the population that snores this addition to our Solea dental laser adds on an amazing service to offer our patients on top of the needle and anesthetic free dentistry we already preform with our lasers," says Dr. Wimmer. "With rapid relief of snoring in a non-invasive and oral appliance free manner everyones partners can finally sleep and be free of that pesky snoring that prevents them from getting a good night's sleep!"

Studies show that roughly 67% of adults snore. The primary source of snoring is the vibration that occurs when air flows past relaxed tissues in the soft palate (the muscular part of the roof of the mouth). These tissues can become even more relaxed with age or weight gain.

Solea Sleep uses ultra-low laser energy to tighten and stiffen collagen in the soft palate, reducing vibrations that cause people to snore. This quick, non-surgical treatment should provide relief for a year or longer.

Dr Matthew Wimmer is currently performing Solea Sleep procedures at their office on 5290 E. Arapahoe Rd, Centennial, CO 80122. For more information on Solea Sleep or other services offered, call (303) 794-6339 or visit https://www.matthewwimmerdmd.com/.

ACES Sees Surge in New Clients Through Q3 2020

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management (ACES), formerly known as ARMCO and the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced today that it has experienced substantial client growth in 2020, increasing its number of new clients by 15%. Since January, ACES has signed several top 25 lenders, including Thrive Mortgage, Plains Commerce Bank, Strong Home Mortgage, LenderWorks and Fulton Bank, as well as one of the nation's top fintech lenders.

"ACES' recent growth illustrates the ever-present need in the marketplace for quality control automation, one which was underscored by the COVID-19 pandemic, the resulting changes in remote workforces and the potential for loan quality issues stemming from the pandemic, such as early payment defaults," said ACES Quality Management CEO Trevor Gauthier. "As lenders moved to a remote work environment, the ability to securely and easily access technology to power their remote workforce became mission-critical, and thanks to the inherent design of our technology, ACES was prepared to meet that demand and enable lenders to transition their operations accordingly."

"We choose ACES because it is the most flexible audit system in the market," said Amelia Moore, quality control manager at Strong Home Mortgage. "We wanted a true partner to help us automate our post-closing audit workflow, and we have found that with the ACES Quality Management team. ACES has a great reputation for client service and has truly exceeded our expectations."

"Our partnership with ACES has allowed us to innovate and streamline our quality management and control workflows," said Khanh Dang, senior vice president and director of consumer account management and credit operations at Fulton Bank. "ACES continues to be a trusted advisor in our quest for operational excellence."

ACES' flagship product ACES Quality Management and Control Software(TM) provides lenders with a secure, flexible, web-based platform to manage pre-funding, post-closing and servicing audits, enabling organizations to continue processing and auditing loans even with employees working from home. Additionally, the reporting dashboard helps quality control executives better manage audit workflows to maintain productivity levels across a detached workforce. ACES is pre-built with over 60 audit types and thousands of managed questions to help lenders keep up with the rapid change in compliance from federal and state regulators, including temporary authorizations and guidance issued as a result of COVID-19.

"In one way or another, COVID-19 will have a lasting impact on how mortgage lenders and financial institutions operate," Gauthier said. "Though the catalyst for industry change was far from ideal, the renewed and accelerated emphasis on tech adoption to power a more digital lending environment will ultimately benefit both lenders and consumers, and ACES is proud to be amongst the group of industry vanguards leading this shift."

About ACES Quality Management

ACES Quality Management Q1 2020 Mortgage QC Trends Report: EPDs Rising, Critical Defect Rate Hits Three-Year Low

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- ACES Quality Management (ACES), formerly known as ARMCO and the leading provider of enterprise quality management and control software for the financial services industry, announced the release of the quarterly ACES Mortgage QC Trends Report. The latest report, which provides nationwide loan quality findings based on data derived from ACES Quality Management and Control Software(TM), covers the first quarter (Q1) of 2020.

Noteworthy findings include:
* Overall critical defect rate of 1.56% matched the lowest rate in three years;
* Defects attributed to the credit and income categories rebounded after climbing higher in Q4 2019;
* Increases in the share of refinances (5%) and conventional loans (2%) contributed to the improvement in the overall defect rate; and
* Early Payment Defaults are on the rise.

"The combination of falling interest rates, employment numbers not yet impacted by COVID-19, and steady property appreciation all contributed to increases in the share of both refinances and conventional loans, which in turn drove the continued decrease in the overall critical defect rate observed in Q1 2020," said ACES Executive Vice President Nick Volpe. "However, the last few weeks of the quarter encompassed the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and given the economic impact of the pandemic on consumers, the number of early payment defaults increased, as one would expect."

"ACES is monitoring this area closely, and the early Q2 data shows the number of EPDs reviewed by lenders through ACES is 75% higher than the average monthly rate of EPD reviews for 2019. Because an EPD review is triggered only when borrowers fall three or more payments behind, this indicates the industry is still in the early stages of the problem, and there is a high likelihood that the number of EPDs will continue to increase," Volpe added.

The Q1 2020 ACES Mortgage QC Industry Trends Report is drawn from nationwide post-closing quality control loan data from over 90,000 unique loans selected for random full-file reviews, as was captured by the company's ACES Quality Management and Control benchmarking system. Defects listed in the report are categorized using the Fannie Mae loan defect taxonomy.

"Amid the chaos and uncertainty driven by COVID-19, data provides a clear path forward for lenders. While the industry's focus has been on managing the near-historic volumes, Q1 loan defect data also indicates that lenders must also turn their attention to the growing problem of EPDs, as this represents a significant operation and financial risk to their organizations," said ACES CEO Trevor Gauthier. "The power of ACES benchmarking functionality is that it allows lenders to utilize their current QC data to see what may lie ahead and respond accordingly to maintain loan quality and manage risk. This kind of trend forecasting can be a powerful tool in lenders' arsenals especially with so much uncertainty remaining at a macroeconomic level."

Mortgage QC Industry Trends Reports are available for download, free of charge, at https://www.acesquality.com/resources/reports.

Pandemic Stress Can Change Eyesight and Impact Eye Health

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- Doctors of optometry across Colorado, 2020 Eyes Colorado, and the Colorado Optometric Association (COA) have launched a September awareness initiative to help educate Coloradans on the impact of stress on eyesight and eye health.

"The long-term stress individuals and families are experiencing this year has the potential to impact eye health in a range of ways from mild eye discomfort to vision loss. This is a health issue that is preventable and most related symptoms can be managed at home. If symptoms linger or impact your quality of life, we do recommend an optometric eye exam," says Sheryl Benjamin, COA Executive Director.

Everyone has experienced that familiar moment in a challenging situation when stress takes over the body. This is called fight, flight or freeze and it's where the body moves into protection mode. Initially, the heart may pump faster as adrenaline moves through the body, breathing becomes shallow, and pupils dilate enhancing the ability to see danger. The body is preparing for a physical threat even if the stress is from a non-physical threat like a difficult project at work or a conflict with a friend.

The individual may experience a range of stress from mild stress to high stress. The eyes also experience a range of impact due to stress from mild discomfort to debilitating vision loss.

Symptoms of Stress Impacting Vision Health:
* Tunnel vision - Loss of visual acuity in the peripheral vision. The person feels like they can only see in front of themselves.
* Light sensitivity - An intolerance to light. The person feels like they have to close their eyes when experiencing light and they feel discomfort.
* Eye twitching - Random spasms around the lid of one or both eyes.
* Very dry or very wet eyes - Both of these can be cause by stress depending on the body's response.
* Blurry vision - This is usually mild when caused by stress.
* Eye strain - Fatigue of the eyes may be caused by stress, but can also be caused by too much screen time.
* Vision Loss - The stress hormone cortisol can damage the eye and the brain. Stress is also linked to causing diseases that can lead to vision loss including glaucoma.

It's more likely that the eye's response to stress will be minor, but if any of these symptoms are impacting your quality of life or the symptoms persist contact your optometrist immediately.

Ideas to Lower Stress & Relax Your Eyes
* Reduce your screen time for a few days to reduce eye strain and give eye muscles a break.
* During screen time use the 20-20-20 Rule. Every 20 minutes look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
* Participate in a daily meditation.
* Exercise daily.
* Walk outside if possible.
* Eat a healthy diet.
* Get good sleep.
* Join an online social group.
* Consider weekly mental health therapy.
* Connect with your doctor about potential medication if stress and anxiety remain unmanageable.

Optometrists know that stress impacts every system of the body including the eyes. Colorado's doctors of optometry want you to know that the benefits of managing stress on a daily basis will not only improve eye health, but overall health. Even picking one stress reducing activity daily can help. Read more at: https://2020eyescolorado.org/pandemic-stress-can-change-your-eyesight-pr/

About the Colorado Optometric Association (COA):

Fort Collins Mayor Wayne Troxell declares September 16, 2020 Holocaust Survivor ‘Joe Rubinstein Day’

FORT COLLINS, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- Author Nancy Sprowell Geise announces that on Sunday, September 14, 2020, Mayor Troxell presented Holocaust survivor with the honor in recognition of Joe's 100th birthday. Joe said, "I am so honored and grateful that I'm still alive to celebrate 100 years. I can't believe it. I love life and I love people."

Shortly before dawn on a frigid morning in Radom, Poland, German soldiers forced twenty-one-year-old Icek "Joe" Rubinsztejn onto a crowded, open-air truck. The next day, several around him were dead. From there, things got worse for young Joe-much worse.

Joe arrived at Auschwitz/Birkenau on April 30, 1942, and was imprisoned there for over two years before being taken to several other notorious camps, including Buchenwald, Ohrdruf, and Theresienstadt. Throughout his ordeal, surprising and remarkable events occurred to save his life.

Barefooted when he was seized, Joe would become one of New York's leading shoe designers for legendary companies Herbert Levine, Inc., Nina Shoe, and others. Beth Levine called Joe, "The Man with the Golden Hands." Joe designed some of the most expensive and sought-after shoes in the world. Shoes designed by Herbert Levine, Inc. were worn by first ladies and movie stars alike. While the Nazis took everything else, they were unable to take Joe's love of life and his love of people.

Joe, who is Jewish, met Irene, who is Catholic, in Germany after the war. They married in 1947 and later this month will celebrate 73 of marriage. They lived in New York for over 30 years before moving to California, and then to Colorado in 2007.

When Joe was taken from his family, he had no idea he would never again see anyone he knew or loved. His widowed mother and four siblings, including Joe's identical twin, were believed murdered at the Treblinka death camp along with over 33,000 others from the Radom Ghettos.

Despite having lost nearly everything a person can lose, Joe found a way to live a joy-filled life. He says, "No matter what, we have to love each other."

For over 60 years, Joe never told anyone his story because he did not believe anything good could come from doing so.

Now, nearly every week Joe receives letters from people all over the world who have read about him in the book, "Auschwitz #34207 - The Joe Rubinstein Story" (ISBN: 978-1939919120) by author Nancy Sprowell Geise.

People tell Joe that if he found a way to live joyfully after all the loss and trauma he experienced, then they know they can face their challenges. Joe's life is an inspiration for us all and an example of how to thrive, despite the most difficult of situations.

Maxwell adds underwriting and closing services to fulfillment platform

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- Digital mortgage platform Maxwell today announced it has added underwriting and closing services to the Maxwell Fulfillment Platform, enhancing the company's comprehensive suite of technology and outsourced services for small and midsize lenders.

As with its processing solution, Maxwell's underwriting and closing solutions are accessible through the Maxwell Fulfillment Platform on a white-label basis, with all outsourced personnel functioning as an integrated part of the lender's operations team. Because the underwriters leverage Maxwell's uniquely high-quality data gathered on the front end, the underwriting process is faster, which results in an improved borrower and lender experience.

Lenders can add team members as needed to accommodate the ebbs and flows of market dynamics while maintaining full ownership of customer data and delivering a fully branded, streamlined loan experience to borrowers.

Today's unpredictable, high volume market creates a potentially costly challenge for small and midsize lenders, which struggle to scale and accommodate wildly fluctuating volume. The primary challenge they face is meeting output demands.

"Few, if any, small and midsize lenders can sustain, the right balance of skilled labor," said Brian Simons, president of Maxwell, "enough to handle demand, but not so many that you sacrifice margin, and all who are skilled and experienced individuals."

The Maxwell Fulfillment Platform is a complete technology and outsourced solution solves this issue. It enables small and midsize lenders to maintain the precise level of skilled U.S. personnel needed, regardless of market fluctuations, all at a price that rivals off-shore solutions. The platform's team of seasoned processors have an average of 15 years of experience and all are located in the U.S.

"Our lender clients constantly tell us they want Maxwell to provide end-to-end fulfillment services, because they know they'll get technology and service that far exceeds any solution they've tried in the mortgage space," said Simons. "After launching our fulfillment platform with processing services to rave reviews in May, this was a natural progression. We're looking forward to growing our family of solutions, which are redefining the mortgage process and experience for borrowers, lenders and settlement service providers."

"Lenders are in a 'pig in a python' situation right now, so it's not surprising that the demand for embedded fulfillment solutions is high," says John Paasonen, CEO and co-founder of Maxwell. "Beyond that, the needs of small to midsize lenders have not traditionally been served by technology partners. We are on a mission to help small and midsized lenders grow wildly successful businesses."

Colorado’s Doctors of Optometry Offer 5 Ways to Prepare for School in a Pandemic

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- The 2020-2021 school year is starting with a baseline of caution, anxiety and an ever-changing game plan during a global pandemic. Local doctors of optometry have teamed up with the Colorado Optometric Association and 2020 Eyes Colorado to compile a unique list of five areas to consider as families near the start of school.

Many families are struggling to feel comfortable with an in-person learning environment and others are opting for distance learning this year. Regardless of the learning environment, school in Colorado will be different for now and families are attempting to plan while facing many unknowns.

However, experts do know that about 80% of what a student learns is presented visually, which makes eye health very important for student learning. Optometrists are often part of a multi-disciplinary team of health-care practitioners that contribute to diagnosing learning difficulties when challenges present in school.

Colorado doctors of optometry agree that considering five specific areas of need, families can build a healthy foundation for learning while avoiding unnecessary difficulties.

1. Assess the Student's Vision & Eye Health

It's highly recommended that each student gets a comprehensive eye exam, every year. It's even more important this year as children are experiencing increased stress, anxiety, countless lifestyle changes and more screen time than ever. This can be a recipe for vision changes that can impact learning if they aren't addressed.

A comprehensive eye exam gives the patient and doctor a look at overall physical health in addition to eye health. Optometrists are often able to diagnose general health and eye health conditions before symptoms occur. This makes early intervention and treatment possible before vision and learning is heavily impacted.

"It's so important for each student to get their eyes checked as part of supporting their learning. It's especially important to rule out a visual issue if your child is struggling with reading, headaches, coordination, blurry vision, double vision, or dry eyes. With the recent screen time increases, we want to make sure that student eye health is not a problem for the school year," says Dr. Tom Cruse, President at Colorado Optometric Association.

Visual Skills Essential for K-12 Learning
During a comprehensive eye exam an optometrist is assessing the child's visual skills in the below areas. These areas are essential for learning and if the eyes are not functioning well in these capacities learning is often impacted negatively.
* Good visual acuity at all distances
* Satisfactory eye teaming skills
* Satisfactory eye movement skills
* Satisfactory focusing skills

If a child is already experiencing learning difficulties and has one or more of the below listed symptoms, they may have a learning-related vision problem. It's recommended that the child has a comprehensive evaluation by an optometrist who specializes in children's vision and learning-related vision problems.

Symptoms of Learning-related Vision Problems*:
* Headaches or eye strain
* Blurred vision or double vision
* Crossed eyes or eyes that appear to move independently of each other (Read more about strabismus.)
* Dislike or avoidance of reading and close work
* Short attention span during visual tasks
* Turning or tilting the head to use one eye only, or closing or covering one eye
* Placing the head very close to the book or desk when reading or writing
* Excessive blinking or rubbing the eyes
* Losing place while reading, or using a finger as a guide
* Slow reading speed or poor reading comprehension
* Difficulty remembering what was read
* Omitting or repeating words, or confusing similar words
* Persistent reversal of words or letters (after second grade)
* Difficulty remembering, identifying or reproducing shapes
* Poor eye-hand coordination
* Evidence of developmental immaturity

*Symptoms list created by Think About Your Eyes, April 2017

2. Create a Family Stress Management Plan
Eye twitching, blurry vision, headaches, watery eyes or dry eyes can all be caused by stress. In fact, stress can cause vision issues and vision issues can cause stress. Don't get caught in this cycle!

This year, there are a lot of new stressors for students beyond learning and homework. Having a stress management plan for each person in the home will help everyone stay happy, healthy, learning, and working.

It's a good idea to start talking to each child about what their school day will look like and prepare them for the things that are changing.

By managing stress daily, families can then build a daily schedule and house rules around each family member that helps them find success.

3. Assure the Student is Eating Well

Nutrition can impact how we feel emotionally and physically, but it also impacts eye health. A child's eating habits can change as they experience stress and as daily schedules change. When some people experience stress they eat less and others eat more. What is healthy and effective for each student?

Making sure the child is eating enough breakfast, lunch, and dinner is helpful. Or maybe they aren't into full meals right now so making sure they are grazing throughout the day will help keep blood sugar balanced, stress low, and it also can mean less tantrums or moodiness.

10 Nutrient Dense Foods to keep eyes healthy and brains learning:
* Fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids
* Nuts and legumes are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E
* Seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E
* Citrus fruits rich in vitamin C
* Leafy greens rich in lutein and zeaxanthin
* Carrots rich in vitamin A and beta carotene
* Sweet potatoes rich in beta carotene and vitamin E
* Beef is rich in zinc
* Eggs rich in lutein and zeaxanthin
* Water prevents dehydration and keeps your brain running

4. Determine How Much Exercise the Student Needs

Exercise increases blood flow to the optic nerve and retina, reduces stress, improves alertness, motivation, attention and it even helps individuals retain information.

When schedules change one of the first things to cease is healthy exercise. Whether attending school in-person or online, determine how the child get the exercise they need to thrive? How can exercise be used as a tool during the school year? Some families have students jump on a mini-trampoline or do jumping jacks before tackling homework or a school lesson. Others use it as a motivational reward. Tips for getting kids to exercise.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the following activity levels for:
* Children ages 3-5 years should have active play throughout the day.
* Children ages 6-17 should have one hour of moderate to vigorous physical activity daily. Including;
o activities to strengthen bones 3 days per week (ex: running or jumping)
o activities to build muscles 3 days per week (ex: climbing or push- ups)

5. Address Sleep Difficulties

Dark circles around their eyes, moodiness, fatigue, difficulty learning, forgetfulness, and lack of motivation are all common signs of poor sleep. Poor sleep is not conducive to a successful learning environment and it can also strain family relationships. It's a good idea to address everyone's sleep issues in the household for optimal learning, working, playing and relating.

Sleep is clearly important for everyone and students are no exception. It's also very common for sleep to be impacted by stress and anxiety. Improving sleep could be as simple as better sleep hygiene, a new pillow, reducing stress or eliminating screen time before bed. However, sometimes there's an actual health issue at play. If sleep doesn't get better with common sense adjustments and is impacting daily life (like school) it's time to consult a doctor.

During a comprehensive eye exam an optometrist may spot signs of sleep issues including sleep apnea or other health conditions that are associated with sleep difficulties like pediatric myopia, diabetes, glaucoma, or an autoimmune disease.

The CDC recommends the following sleep quantity for:
* Ages 3-5 years: 10-13 hours per 24 hours (including naps)
* Ages 6-12 years: 9-12 hours per 24 hours
* Ages 13-18 years: 8-10 hours per 24 hours

Tips to Improve Sleep:
* Stick to a sleep schedule, go to bed at the same time and wake at the same time even on the weekends.
* Remove screens from the bedroom including phones, TVs, and tablets.
* Stop the use of any screen one hour before bedtime to reduce blue light exposure.
* Make sure the child's sleep environment is comfortable for them and includes their unique sleep preferences.
* Avoid caffeine in the afternoon and before bed.
* Make sure the child is getting enough exercise during the day.
