Retailu Partners with One Voice One Team to Champion Youth Employment In Retail

MONTREAL, Quebec /ScoopCloud/ -- The current state of retail vacancies is alarming - the industry at large is facing a massive gap in part-time workers. "We have never seen this many openings for part-time workers," said April Sabral from retailu. "Even more alarming is the pool of candidates that want to work in retail post COVID. Usually, we would have students applying for their summer jobs, but unfortunately, this has not happened in 2021."

Why is this happening, and what can we do about it?

Sabral, Founder of retailu shared her thoughts, "Mental health has been seriously affected in our youth throughout the past year; virtual school, no sporting events, and a lack of routine has caused significant problems - Also, fear of catching covid and passing it along to aging parents has weighed on this population. These may be a few reasons that our normal retail first-time workers are not out there eagerly looking for a PT retail job."

If youth mental health has been affected, this may have directly impacted their confidence to go out into the workforce and pass out resumes like before.

In addition, most retailers have not yet adopted an easier way to find candidates as the youth of today's communication does not match the tech of sending in a resume and completing a lengthy application online. This process is archaic at best.

Something has to be done said Sabral. This is where retailu, in partnership with One Voice One Team, have stepped up to solve this pressing problem.

Orlando Bowen, Founder of a charitable youth leadership development organization, said we felt it was paramount that we created something where youth were able to see possibilities and develop skills that will allow them to succeed in work and life, while offering retailers the opportunity to fill employment gaps within their companies.

One Voice One Team, a nonprofit organization, has been running programs for nearly two decades. Get Yo' Life is a program that focuses on helping students learn how to become employable and keep a job. When April Sabral, founder of retailu, met the team from OVOT late in 2020, she knew there had to be something they could do together to help youth gain their first job in a retail store.

Bowen, founder of OVOT, shared that youth who complete the "Get Yo' Life" program will walk away with valuable key principles like resiliency skills, prioritization skills and authentic leadership skills that will not just position them to secure an internship, but it will also position them to find success in developing a clear career path in life.

Sabral is an advocate for retail being a great career, and shares her story of how she started as a PT sales associate after high school, "It was an easy job to get, and one that I learned life skills in" in her book 'The Positive Effect" and after 25 years of leading in retailers like Banana Republic, Starbucks, Apple and finally as the Vice President of DAVIDsTEA a loved tea shop in Canada she is an advocate for retail being a real career. "I never thought it would be, but after traveling the world and working for mega brands, I can tell you that retail is an amazing career."

Retailu has partnered with OVOT to create the only retail training program for young people to get their first job in the retail industry. The Get Yo' Life program, along with a retailu "How to ACE your first retail job and keep it," is an opportunity for retailers to sponsor kids through the program and offer them an internship at the other side, helping the retailer find their potential workforce.

The retailu program features retail industry leaders, such as Ron Thurston, former VP of Intermix; Solange Strom, former CEO and Founder of L'Occitane in Canada; Meghan Houle, Executive recruiter and Darlene Huf, Former Country manager for a brand like David's Bridal and Disney who offer solid advice to these youth through a masterclass style online on-demand course.

The first retailer to get involved in sponsoring a Get Yo' Life retail internship is Ardene, a North American fast fashion brand with over 300 stores across Canada and the East Coast US.

In addition to its head-to-toe offering of apparel, footwear and accessories for women and men, Ardene's corporate culture has become known for its impressive mental health advocacy in recent years. In 2018, in the days before COVID, Ardene launched its first mindfulness program for stores in partnership with Brain Spa, an innovative organization that seeks to bring mindfulness-based leadership to the workplace. The program, called "Mindful Moments" has since grown significantly to include a suite of mental health and mindfulness trainings companywide, in partnership with the likes of LifeWorks and others. Most recently, the company named its Head of People and Culture, Fil D'Urbano, as Chief Mindfulness Officer, and is a 2021 nominee for the Retail Council of Canada's Excellence in Retailing Award for its Mindfulness programs.

"With 40 years of experience in the retail market, Ardene is no stranger to evolving alongside and supporting young people," said an Ardene representative. "But with so many changes brought on by COVID, and with rising mental health issues, we know that more needs to be done."

The first cohort of approximately 45 youth in Ontario is being sponsored through the Get Yo' Life program now, and once completed, selected participants will be offered a chance at an internship at an Ardene store. "We have partnered with OVOT and retailu on the Get Yo' Life program because we have always had a culture of giving back. Helping build life skills such as goal setting, adaptability, mindfulness, and gratitude are all aligned with our values, and we are proud to support the OVOT team and retailu as they make this a reality for young people across Canada."

These youth are so excited and can't wait to start their potential first job with Ardene, a well-loved brand by this demographic. Together retailu, OVOT and Ardene are paving the way for what could be a way to empower youth, fill vacancies, and help a pressing issue that seems to have hit retail post COVID.

Retailers interested in sponsoring this program should get in touch with retailu at info@retailu.ca

Activist and Ganjapreneur Ed ‘NJWeedman’ Forchion Promotes ‘Puff & Paint’ Cannabis Creativity at The Joint of Miami

MIAMI, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- Legendary marijuana activist and ganjapreneur Ed "NJWeedman" Forchion is continuing his legacy of promoting 'puff and paint' cannabis creativity. The opening of his new marijuana lounge in Miami, The Joint of Miami in the Wynwood Art District, will be an extension of his legacy in support of 'pot art.'

The Joint of Miami, alongside NJWeedman's Joint in Trenton, NJ now both boast beautiful new outdoor wall murals painted by graffiti art master, Ayumi Chisolm aka SANOizm. In addition, NJWeedman is hosting an art themed pre-opening "Puff & Paint" event at his Miami location from May 14th, 10:00 a.m. ET to June 11th, 10:00 p.m. ET. "Puff & Paint" at The Joint of Miami is inviting artists to blaze and paint while creating artwork for the interior walls of the weed lounge! Professional artists who are looking to participate can send examples of their artwork to art director Jazz Tarver at artdirector@thejointofmiami.com for consideration and invitation details. The Joint of Miami is located at 2010 NW Miami Ct. in Miami.

NJWeedman's longstanding love for weed art dates back to his first marijuana dispensary, The Liberty Bell Temple, (see https://youtu.be/-jWnvGd-N4M ) located in Hollywood, CA. In 2008, Ayumi Chisolm aka SANOizm painted an interior canvas and mural covering the ceiling plus the front windows of that now mythical location. SANOizm (SimpleArtNiceOutlinez, StylesAllwayzNumberOne, SmokeAnotherNiceOne) is an award winning multi-disciplined urban artist originally from Cleveland, Ohio. He began doing graffiti art in 1983 and now travels the world creating community aerosol art murals, illustration and designs. His mark on now three of NJWeedman's businesses are important contributions to the culture of cannabis creativity. Sano maintains a small art studio in Chinatown, Los Angeles where he prints his brand, Thieveland T-shirts.

"It was important for me to have Sano leave his artistic impression on both my Trenton and Miami locations. I consider his imprint a blessing to my businesses. He has artistically documented my marijuana legacy in a way that words could not capture. If a picture is worth a thousand words, the spirit of his images is worth 10,000 words. I think my favorite is his mural outside of NJWeedman's Joint in Trenton. It's called "The Battle of Trenton 2" and is an accurate depiction of how I won my fight against the prosecutor's office in Trenton for unfair charges filed against me (see https://nj1015.com/nj-weedman-promises-to-give-prosecutor-legal-ass-whooping-after-major-bust.")

"It's no secret that marijuana and hip hop art are like first cousins," adds Sano, an avid partaker of the herb. "It has been an amazing journey to illustrate the story of NJWeedman with my art. I deeply appreciate his patronage over the years and am excited to have my work adorn both locations in Trenton and now in Miami, particularly in the Wynwood Art District which is famous for Art Basel and street art. Our work is sometimes overlooked and underrated in the contemporary art world but is an important component of our culture."

A cult figure in the marijuana legalization community, Forchion has since become one of the most vocal and controversial members of the pro-pot movement. He is the founder of the Legalize Marijuana Party of New Jersey and has run previous campaigns for Governor, U.S. Senate, Congress, the State Legislature, and the Burlington County Board of Freeholders. After decades of public persecution, Ed Forchion is finally being acknowledged for his decades of activism. He has spoken on virtual panels at Stockton and Princeton University, was featured on NBC News in New York and he is slated to appear on an upcoming segment of Vice TV and ABC-TV Nightline.

While NJWeedman's Joint in Trenton, NJ is a bustling marijuana themed eatery and smoke shop with his partner, Debi Madaio, The Joint of Miami is an extension of the NJWeedman brand, offering a more inclusive cannabis experience. The Joint of Miami, located in the Wynwood Art District, will be an art and music marijuana lounge with 'members only' access. Slated to open midsummer, The Joint of Miami will be a franchise operation and NJWeedman is already fielding inquires in other cities.

The winners were selected by a national jury of economic development experts. Royal Oak's Downtown Development Authority (DDA) was selected for its two-pronged approach to supporting and stimulating the local economy during the pandemic. Main Street Lincoln Park (LNPK) was chosen for its work to ensure its community had access to food, funding, and essential PPE resources during the COVID-19 crisis.

Royal Oak Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and Yiftee

The Royal Oak Downtown area was heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the DDA worked diligently to address the local business crisis. In addition to offering small business assistance grants to downtown businesses, the DDA also boosted economic growth through the Royal Oak Downtown Dollars egift cards, powered by Yiftee. The DDA subsidized consumer spending by sending a free $20 e-gift card to the first 20,000 Royal Oak residents and consumers that signed up for its e-newsletter. The cards are redeemable at more than 65 locations in downtown Royal Oak and can only be used locally.

Downtown Dollars generated more business for local shops, restaurants, and retailers, with some seeing sales increases of 20% year-over-year in July (*note 2). Royal Oak has reported that people from throughout southeastern Michigan began visiting the downtown to redeem their gift cards. "The digital gift card program was part of the most impactful project we have ever implemented. It encouraged customers to spend more money downtown and infused a huge amount of money into local retailers," said Sean Kammer, downtown manager for Royal Oak (*note 3).

The Downtown Dollars program was so successful that it continued into the holiday season, with Royal Oak offering a BOGO match for anyone who purchased the online gift cards. Consumers can still purchase Downtown Dollars gift cards by visiting https://visitroyaloak.com/.

Main Street Lincoln Park - Ecolibrium3: Duluth, Minnesota

Main Street Lincoln Park (LNPK) is a wonderful example of a community coming together to get through one of its toughest times. Main Street LNPK collaborated with a local craft brewery to create a free farmer's market to address food insecurity amongst local residents. They also partnered with a local restaurant to provide Spring Break groceries for students in need. Additionally, Main Street LNPK offered small business technical assistance, reopening grants, and other funding opportunities. Main Street LNPK's pandemic response also included "Pay it Forward PPE," a partnership with Duluth outdoor goods manufacturer Frost River, to produce thousands of face masks and face shields with the help of many volunteers working long hours.

Main Street LNPK thanked their volunteers for their hard work with a neighborhood gift card, powered by Yiftee. As the Pay it Forward PPE project gained media and community attention, Main Street LNPK leveraged the exposure to aid local businesses by accelerating the development and launch of the Main Street LNPK gift card (*note 4). "Our neighborhood gift card provided immediate cash infusion into our business community," said Shannon Laing, Main Street LPNK Director, ECOLIBRIUM3 (*note 5). Since the program was introduced, Main Street LNPK has generated nearly $25,000 in gift card purchases-all of which goes to support local businesses (*note 6).

Ganja Pioneer Ed ‘NJWeedman’ Forchion Commemorates 4/20 with New Jersey Celebration and Miami Expansion

TRENTON, N.J. /ScoopCloud/ -- While "Weed Day" 4/20/21 marks a luminous occasion for longtime marijuana activist and entrepreneur, Ed "NJWeedman" Forchion, in his home state of New Jersey, per the recent legalization of cannabis, the victory is somewhat bittersweet for him. The bitter is that his current "Citizen's Dispensary" operates as a black-market operation as he continues to battle for inclusion within the legal arena.

The sweet is, not only a huge in-store and online celebration party this 4/20, but also the announcement of his expansion, with a 420-themed lounge opening soon in Miami, Florida, entitled, The Joint of Miami. Onsite festivities for this 4/20 at NJWeedman's Joint, located at 322 E. State St. in Trenton, include vendors, live entertainment and food with online streaming across all the NJWeedman's Joint social media platforms and website.

A self-confessed weed smuggler from the early 90's, Forchion's 1997 arrest by the Camden County Drug Task Force and members of the local DEA would turn out to be just one of many over several decades. Never one to back done from authority, he achieved media notoriety when he was arrested for smoking marijuana in front of the entire New Jersey State Assembly in 2000 and garnered a national platform when he fired it up at the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, PA during the Republican National Convention. It was 10 years before the launch of Instagram and smoking weed publicly was still a criminal act, but there was no social media to make such radical deeds of civil disobedience go viral. Over 20 years later however, with marijuana finally legalized in over half of the United States, Forchion knows that his consistent battles on behalf of the plant are part of the steam engine behind cannabis now being heralded as a 'new' billion-dollar industry.

After decades of public persecution, Ed Forchion is finally being applauded for his decades of activism. Last month he spoke on virtual panels at Stockton and Princeton University, was featured on NBC News in New York and he is slated to appear on an upcoming segment of ABC-TV Nightline.

His many marijuana infused media stunts are well documented, including his attempt to legally change his name to NJWeedman.com, denied first by the courts in New Jersey in 2004 and in another case in California in 2011. His 2010 arrest in Mount Holly New Jersey, after a traffic stop where he was charged with possession with intent to distribute, with a jury ultimately serving a 12-0 verdict of acquittal, also added to his lore. His marijuana mansion parties in the Hollywood Hills between the years of 2009 and 2011; his Liberty Bell Temple dispensaries in Hollywood and his books, including his first title, "Public Enemy #420," published in 2010 all lend credence to NJWeedman's devotion for marijuana.

Police raids, DEA investigations, and state prosecutors have hounded Forchion coast to coast from New Jersey to Los Angeles and now back in New Jersey, but he has never missed a beat. His current reincarnation is NJWeedman's Joint, opened in 2015 with the support of his business partner, Debbi Madaio. The establishment was raided in 2016 by the local police and Forchion ultimately spent 447 days behind bars, only to later have a large portion of the charges dismissed by a judge.

While NJWeedman's Joint is a bustling marijuana themed eatery and smoke shop, The Joint of Miami will be an extension of the NJWeedman brand, offering a more inclusive cannabis experience. The Joint of Miami, located in the Wynwood Art District, will be a marijuana lounge with 'members only' access. Slated to open midsummer, The Joint of Miami will be a franchise operation and NJWeedman is already fielding inquires in other cities.

"I always dreamed this day would come," expresses Forchion. "I, like so many others, knew there was nothing criminal about this plant, yet we were treated like criminals. Now that it is legalized, our battle is with the politicians and corporations who want to shut out people like me, the brick layers of this industry. I tell everyone, I'm not getting off this 'cannabus.' I've been a ride or die soldier for years now and I'm not going anywhere."

"Back in mid-2000, I left New Jersey for Hollywood, CA. I was one of the early marijuana legalization pioneers out there, until the DEA made me leave. I came back to New Jersey, I saw what was going on and I conquered. My boast is that they can't get a jury of 12 to convict me. Now I'm headed to Miami and I'm super excited about the upcoming Florida expansion with the new lounge location. In fact, I envision 'Joint' locations around the country," notes Forchion.

Registered Nurse and Ganga Mompreneur Debi Madaio Celebrates the Legacy of NJWeedman’s Joint Eatery During Women’s History Month

TRENTON, N.J. /ScoopCloud/ -- If the longtime marijuana activist Ed Forchion is the NJWeedman, then his business partner, Debi Madaio, is easily Trenton New Jersey's "First Lady of Weed." As the majority owner of NJWeedman's Joint, the popular marijuana-themed eatery located in the state's capital city, Madaio is defiantly acknowledging her legacy as a heroic ganga mompreneur during Women's History Month.

A registered nurse, cannabis activist, mother to two daughters and a special needs son, Madaio is not only the driving force behind NJWeedman's Joint but also NJWeedman himself! In celebration of Women's History Month, she has expanded her business with the opening of The Stash Spot, a specialty boutique smoke shop located inside The Joint and a new 'potcast,' "Joint Accounts," closing out Women's History Month on March 29, 2021 and streaming every following Monday at 3:00 p.m. ET across The Joint's social media platforms. "Joint Accounts" will feature the latest happenings in and around NJWeedman's Joint.

The pandemic has fostered all sorts of new innovations, and for Madaio, The Stash Spot and "Joint Account" both evolved as such. While NJWeedman's Joint luckily survived the shut-in as an essential business restaurant operation, smoke shops in New Jersey had to close. Madaio had the idea to move all her smoke shop items to the restaurant and still meet the needs of her cannabis clientele. The Stash Spot is the expansion of that service. With cannabis now finally legal in the state, offering a one stop shop for food and supplies is a convenience her customers greatly appreciate. The Stash Shop carries marijuana paraphernalia like pipes, rolling papers, marijuana themed convenience items, knick knacks and clothing.

Operating a small business while working full time as a registered nurse and caring for a special needs son has been challenging, to say the least. But Madaio has witnessed and survived additional trials as well. Located just across the street from the Trenton City Hall, The Joint had been operating successfully since 2015 and was garnering national accolades for its contribution to cannabis culture. It was during Women's History Month of March 2017 when NJWeedman's Joint first came under scrutiny per an undercover operation and raid that led to Ed Forchion's arrest and incarceration. Forchion's arrest garnered him 447 days in prison, leaving Madaio not only fighting for his release, but also for the survival of their business.

"While Ed was being held for those 447 days prior to trial under the New Jersey Bail Reform Act, we had to close the business in order to secure it. I basically robbed Peter to pay Paul to make sure the rent was paid. I had made Ed a promise that I would make sure the business and the building were still there when he got out of jail! That was one of his biggest fears, that he would get out of jail and ride by the building where The Joint used to be. I couldn't and wouldn't let that happen as Mercer County had taken enough from him already," notes Madaio.

Today, NJWeedman's Joint is once again a thriving watering hole for not only Trenton but also the surrounding communities, cities and states. Customers drive in from New York and Philadelphia on any given day, or drop in when visiting from not only around the country but the world, for their delectable menu of dishes named after marijuana inspired themes and famous celebrity stoners. Meals like the "Snoop's Dream," a fish and grits dish; Willie's Chillie; the Kevin Smith Impossible Burger; the "Pothead Sandwich," fried fish with a shrimp crab relish and sriracha sauce; and the "East Coast Cannabis Coalition," a turkey meatball dinner with marinara sauce and spaghetti are all the rage.

The restaurant's ambiance, created by Madaio, mirrors an actual marijuana grow room with curtains, tablecloths and chairs designed and fashioned after marijuana leaves. There are also live outdoor music performances and show offerings which are streamed online for a wider viewing audience.

Madaio has an undergraduate degree in criminal justice as well as in nursing. While currently still working long hours, she envisions the eatery as an outlet which will provide work and income closer to home and nearer her child. NJWeedman's Joint was once called 'the happiest place on earth' by Extraction Magazine and Madaio's mission is to keep those kinds of vibes flowing. The Stash Spot, NJWeedman's Joint and her new podcast, "The Joint Account," will continue in service to keep their customer's energy high and lifted.

"I'm looking forward to one day being done with all drama," expresses Madaio. "New Jersey has finally legalized our favorite plant, but now the battle for inclusion in the cannabis industry begins. We know that small businesses and entrepreneurs are getting edged out of this new legal, burgeoning billion-dollar industry. I'm hoping that in exchange for our commitment to good service that our customers won't allow that to happen to us here."

Newly-Passed Restaurant Revitalization Fund and Restaurant Tax Relief Strategies by Ace Plus Tax Resolution

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- James Cha, a CPA and a Certified Tax Resolution Specialist from Ace Plus Tax Resolution, underlines the newly enacted restaurant revitalization fund, recent tax challenges the restaurant industry is facing, and tax relief strategies.

Restaurant Revitalization Fund and Grants

Along with small and medium enterprises, the restaurant industry has also been severely impacted by the pandemic. However, the governments have been trying to ensure that tax reliefs are provided to help the restaurant industry. This has been effectively encapsulated in the Restaurant Revitalization Act signed on March 11. Certified Tax Resolution Specialist James from Ace Plus Tax Resolution recommends that "restaurant owners that are financially struggling must strategize and receive the full benefit of the Restaurant Revitalization Fund."

$5 billion of the fund will be available to eligible restaurants with gross receipts during 2019 of $500,000 or less.

In addition, the crux of this particular tax relief regime provides grants to restaurant applicants of up to $10 million. This is mainly to compensate them for the pandemic-related revenue loss. In this aspect, all restaurants are declared as eligible for the program, with some exceptions, like restaurants that are operated by a state or a local government or are owned by a publicly-traded company. However, it is to be noted that the grant that would be awarded to the entity is not supposed to exceed an aggregate of $10 million and should be limited to $5 million per physical location.

The grant amount will be based on the pandemic-related revenue loss. If the entity was in business for 2019, either entirely or partially, the loss is calculated as the 2020 average monthly gross receipts multiplied by 12, subtracted from 2019 average monthly gross receipts multiplied by 12. A different calculation method is to be applied if the business newly opened anytime between January 1, 2020, and the enactment date of the bill, March 11, 2021. The grant will be reduced by the 7(a) SBA loans received, including PPP loans.

Under this particular act, there are certain expenses that are eligible for restaurants. They mainly include payroll costs, paid sick leaves, mortgage, rent and utilities, maintenance, supplies, food and beverage expenses, operational expenses, and any other expenses SBA deemed essential. In the same manner, the grant is supposed to be used for expenses that fall within the covered period between February 15, 2020, and December 31, 2021.

Taxability

Restaurant Revitalization Grants that are received are not subject to income tax. In the same manner, the exclusion will not result in the denial of a deduction reduction of tax attributes or a denial of increase in basis. This implies that these businesses are not supposed to include the grant amount as a gross income in the tax return.

Tax Problems for Restaurant Owners

James denotes, "Restaurant Revitalization Grant has been a much-needed life support for the troubled industry. Followed by the pandemic, the restaurant industry was perhaps the most impacted by lockdowns, with the ongoing burden of having to remit tax payments. Payroll taxes, for one, continue to be a pressing cause of concern for the restaurant industry".

When their business struggles, restaurant owners are tempted to use these funds to cover the business expenses. The IRS takes late payroll tax payments very seriously because it wasn't the business owners' money to begin with. If the IRS thinks that if an individual was responsible for filing or paying taxes but did not, then he or she becomes liable for the unpaid taxes.

Business owners must realize that the IRS has the power to close their business, come after the owner personally by asserting Trust Fund Recovery Penalty, levy bank accounts, or seize income sources and properties in an attempt to collect back taxes. Also, their passport may be revoked or declined to issue or renew by the U.S. Department of State.

Tax Reliefs for the Restaurant Industry

In the case where the business is approached by the IRS for back taxes, the best possible course of action might be to adopt an approach to tactfully deal with the issue, without panicking.

James believes "The best course of action is to see if they qualify for any tax relief options." However, this can only be done after delinquent tax returns have been filed and all current income tax and payroll tax deposits have been paid.

Businesses or individuals can settle their taxes for substantially less than they owe through an Offer in Compromise if they qualify. Financial inability to pay is the most common reason an Offer is accepted, but it must be supported by and verified with well-prepared financial documents and statements.

Or, through an Installment Agreement, businesses or individuals may set up an affordable payment plan to pay off the back taxes. If they qualify for a "Partial Payment" Installment, they will not be paying off the full amount, as the balance left at the end of the payment term will be forgiven. Strategizing is crucial when submitting an application in order to maximize the benefit.

Also, they may be able to halt IRS collection actions by declaring a Currently Not Collectible status. To qualify for this status, they must prove they have a dire financial situation and none to very little income. The IRS will put a pause on their attempt to collect payment until the financial situation improves.

The Final Words

The current day and age are quite challenging for almost all business owners. In this regard, it is imperative for businesses to be fully aware of all the taxes that they owe, as well as the options that are available to them. There are numerous tax relief options that are put forth by the government, but business owners should seek a certified tax relief specialist to clearly understand their options and eligibility, so that they can strategize, take full advantage, and save considerable sums of money as taxpayers.

New York City Takes ‘Closed’ Signs Down, Businesses Open Safer, Stronger

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. /ScoopCloud/ -- Hospitality businesses including dining establishments, the event industry, and the rest of New York City's businesses are not only poised for a strong comeback, it's already underway. With COVID-19 vaccinations in progress, a group of industry professionals are determined to light the way by empowering business owners and, as a result, instilling confidence in clientele. The Academy for Hospitality Arts (AHA) will be presenting on COVID-19 safety at a free virtual conference next week as a part of this mission.

"I've heard people say New York City is a ghost town right now. That could not be further from the truth," says Michael DiPeri, President and Founder of AHA. "The restaurant, hospitality and event industries have taken the lead in getting businesses back to full operating status. We've done our homework. Now we're welcoming our patrons back knowing we've dotted every i, crossed every t with regards to their safety and ours."

On Tuesday, March 16, 2021, as a part of a next-level virtual learning conference hosted by Lovegevity's E3Xperience, four speakers from the AHA will take the stage to present to an international audience of hundreds of professionals in the hospitality industry. Online attendees of the event will have an opportunity to benefit from AHA's extensive research and insightful expert knowledge for protecting themselves while getting back to serving guests safely and keeping their staff safe.

Founder Michael DiPeri, along with Karen Diperi of The Academy for Hospitality Arts (AHA), rolled up their sleeves in the midst of the pandemic to create a comprehensive blueprint for hospitality professionals to get their feet firmly on the road to reopening success. The AHA is on a mission to lead fellow business professionals through the ever-changing COVID safety protocols so they can get back to full capacity with confidence. The pair have been immersed in New York City's event and hospitality scene for more than 30 years. Now they're leveraging decades of experience to set industry standards by providing training programs and certifications, all built on extensive research and scientific data.

The AHA has recently introduced two specific programs to ensure hospitality and event professionals are ready to meet the most stringent health standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

1. COVID-19 Readiness Program (Course (CRC) for - wait staff and servers all members of the hospitlity industry.)

2. COVID Hospitality Compliance Officer (CHCO) Certification course, for management those who take a leadership role in guiding hospitality back to full capacity.

Both programs prepare hospitality professionals for:

* the increase in new daily protocols for cleaning and disinfecting

* the increase in protection of customers

* conflict resolution protocols

* identifying symptoms, isolation precautions, and much more

During the March 16 virtual conference, attendees will be able to sign up for their COVID-19 Readiness Courses with a donation to World Central Kitchen. "The Academy for Hospitality Arts is proud to partner with this organization," said Karen DePeri, Chief Marketing Officer of The AHA. "We have already raised $2500 for their cause, and will continue our fundraising efforts at the event, offering our safety courses to attendees in exchange for their donation to World Central Kitchen." They will also have the opportunity to gain preferred access to the CHCO Certification course.

Free Tickets for the immersive online experience, "The Road to ReOpening," are available through Sunday, March 14 at http://www.lovegevity.com/e3xp.

If the first full-day event in the series was any indication, it's going to be a spectacle of cutting-edge 3D technology. Guests will soak up inspiration, and take away more confidence for the future of their businesses.

"Along with the learning opportunities, it's a day of networking, socializing and an all-around good time set in the streets of New York, and attendees get to enjoy it from anywhere. We're thrilled to introduce this type of experience to the event industry. Even after the pandemic is behind us, we want to show global audiences how to bring audiences together in an exciting virtual setting," said Cho Phillips, CEO of Lovegevity and co-founder of the E3Xperience.

Anyone interested in learning more about the AHA's COVID-19 safety training courses can visit the AHA website for details. Live online classes have begun, and will be available online and instructor-led through accredited colleges and universities as part of a partnership between Lovegevity University and the Academy for Hospitality Arts.

Las Vegas Latin Ghost Kitchen, Melita’s Table, Defies Odds And Expands Offering Dine-In Restaurant Experience In 2021

LAS VEGAS, Nev. /ScoopCloud/ -- Melita's Table, a popular ghost kitchen serving authentic and original Latin meals, has expanded from delivery-only, to now offer a restaurant dining experience.

Las Vegas restaurateur, Kori McClurg launched Melita's Table in 2019 before the pandemic as a unique ghost kitchen concept - preparing meals for delivery only. The ghost kitchen concept defied the odds and found success during the pandemic with meals infused with Old World Latin flavors and a plethora of options to meet many dietary needs including: nut-free, soy-free, gluten-free, and oil-free menu items.

As dining rooms open once again, guests have requested their favorite Melita's flavors be available for dine-in. "Our customers loved Melita's Table as a delivery-only concept and by adding a dine-in option, we can serve more people who are interested in healthy food that tastes amazing," said owner Kori McClurg.

McClurg, who also owns and operates the Ori'Zaba's Scratch Mexican Grill in the Las Vegas area, found the perfect location for Melita's Table, inside of her Silverado Ranch Ori'Zaba's restaurant.

"By offering our Scratch Mexican menu from Ori'Zaba's and Latin meals from Melita's Table, in the same location, customers can take a flavor trip abroad without having to board an airplane," said Melita's Table Director of Consumer and Product Management, D.J. Wannacott-Yahnke.

Melita's Table offers dishes made with fresh vegetables, whole grains, legumes and unique spice combinations. Melita's entrées are made using unique ingredients: quinoa in tacos, citrus portobello in the chimichanga, and smoky jack asada crafted from jackfruit in burritos. Unique and flavorful options provide a Latin menu for everyone to enjoy and explore.

Those fresh ingredients make Diana Edelman, of Vegan's Baby, thrilled about easier access for Vegans in Las Vegas. She says, "It's been amazing to have Melita's Table as a partner with Vegan's Baby for two years during Vegan Dining Month. Expanding from a kitchen to dine-in makes so much sense. Now, even more people can experience the plant-based cuisine Melita's Table does so well." In January, Melita's Table sold over 400 entrees contributing a donation of almost $520 to Vegan's Baby associated charity, Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada.

Melita's menu also includes delectable desserts and amazing appetizers. Tres Leches Cake made with coconut milk, battered artichoke bites, street corn and a variety of homemade empanadas add Latin flair to the menu.

McClurg saw a need in the community for more healthy food options and decided to offer a fresh dine-in experience to go along with their existing food delivery service. "By expanding Melita's Table we can bring flavors and food to more people who may not be able to find meal options for their dietary sensitivities. While Melita's Table serves healthy dishes for those looking for healthier options, the food also tastes amazing," said McClurg.

Food delivery and pick-up are still available, but for those wanting a dine-in experience, Melita's Table is serving meals seven days a week; 10:30am - 9:00pm Monday through Saturday and 11:00am - 8:00pm on Sundays at 1263 E Silverado Ranch Blvd., Las Vegas 89183, located in the Silverado Ranch Center at the intersection of South Maryland Parkway and E Silverado Ranch Blvd.

Kiosk Industry Association (KMA) Announces New ADA Accessibility and EMV Initiatives

DENVER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Kiosk Association announces initiatives for Kiosk EMV and Kiosk ADA.

EMV Initiative - As a Participating Organization with the PCI SSC, KMA encourages deployment of EMV devices (PCI certified) for CATs (Cardholder Activated Terminals). The problem has been companies attempting to try and reposition web non-EMV shopping carts into a self-order terminal using just a standard magstripe reader.

On ADA Accessibility - to kick off the new initiative the Kiosk Association has released a free 14 Point Kiosk ADA Checklist. This is a distillation of the Kiosk ADA Framework (Mandatory + Code of Practice) released to U.S. Access Board in 2019.

The initiative follows U.S. Access Board conference call in January introducing new Executive Director. A follow-up call in March is set. The intent of our initiative is to properly align the initial design process so that by default accessibility is accommodated, and not reduced to potential options dismissed or not explored. Like EMV, this also is impacted by casual relocation of web ordering which has not been optimized for accessibility onto self-service terminals.

Community Cards are available in places of all shapes and sizes. Many communities were able to run promotions during the holiday period, with bonus funds available from local employers, city governments, corporate donors, visitor bureaus and state and federal funding programs such as the CARES Act.

The Amherst Chamber of Commerce and Erie County, NY partnered to launch the Shop 716 card to support their almost one million residents and over 700 participating independent businesses. They launched in mid-November with a free promotional match utilizing CARES Act funding that resulted in an astounding $1.1 million in sales in eight weeks. The incredibly successful program was well received by the community and the merchants stressing the urgency to support local for the pandemic stricken businesses.

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz expressed the continued need, "While we continue to balance the safety of the community and the much-needed commerce for our local independent businesses, the Shop 716 program emphasizes the shop local theme encouraging residents to assist in this effort. Keeping our businesses open helps them employ our family, friends and neighbors." Yiftee implemented six-figure holiday bonus programs in Boulder CO, Fenton MI, Frisco CO, Nashville TN, Royal Oak MI, Whatcom County WA and others.

On a smaller scale, in North Bay Village, FL, population 8,300, Community Card organizer Cynder Haines commented, "Yiftee has made it easy for us to distribute tens of thousands of dollars to support our residents and local businesses, and we're already seeing thousands of dollars more being spent. Yiftee is a great service, and it adds a lot of value for us as a small city. Thank you so much!" Yiftee has Community Cards in many more small towns like Del Mar CA, Hastings on Hudson NY, Lancaster SC, Pleasantville IA and Zelienople PA.

Employees Get Many Choices

"Evans Bank appreciates the leadership of Erie County and the Amherst Chamber in quickly mobilizing this program to support Erie County businesses in response to COVID-19," said David J. Nasca, President & CEO of Evans Bank. "We provided Shop 716 gift cards to all of our associates during the holidays and they greatly appreciated the opportunity to assist the stressed small businesses in our community when they most needed it. We continue to encourage our customers to shop local and our business clients to participate in the program."

Annette Cornish, Management Assistant, sent several dozen Downtown Hillsboro OR cards on behalf of her organization. "I have had feedback from several employees." she said. "They are very excited about the gifts and being able to support our downtown vendors. Your gift has been a morale boost during these hard pandemic times."

Simple to Create and No Cost for Organizers or Merchants

Communities interested in implementing a Community Card program can sign up for a demo. Starting a Community Card program is simple and Yiftee provides plenty of support and launch materials. Community Card programs are free for organizers and participating business and require no special equipment or PoS integration. They are redeemed as digital Mastercards(r) and merchants are paid by their Mastercard bank, subject to Mastercard's normal card-not-present transaction fee.

Stacey’s Old Faithful Bar and Steakhouse Re-Opens Today

GALLATIN GATEWAY, Mont. /ScoopCloud/ -- The legendary Stacey's Old Faithful Bar & Steakhouse in Gallatin Gateway is reopening, following a change in ownership and making updates. Stacey's is an authentic western bar and steakhouse serving up a stiff drink, a hearty meal, and live music for over 60 years- and they plan on keeping it that way.

After purchasing the bar this year, owner Brett Evje saw the need for a few updates, like expanding the kitchen- which will now be serving breakfast Friday - Monday in addition to serving lunch and dinner seven days a week. Other updates include an indoor stage for live music, a new dance floor, beer on tap, a turn-of-the-century back bar, an expanded gaming machine area, and new restrooms. An outdoor bar and patio space will be added in Spring 2021.

Seeing himself as the caretaker of this landmark saloon, Evje says, "Toni and her family created a place where everyone feels welcomed. I see these updates as setting it up for the next 60 years and beyond. We are dedicated to keeping the West and the western spirit alive and unchanged."

This is the second update of the historic property. The first took place in 2005 when Toni Crosby acquired the bar from her father, Stacey, and added the steakhouse.

Established in 1937, Stacey's Old Faithful Bar & Steakhouse is a casual western saloon and eatery that strives to maintain an authentic Montana experience and the traditions that make this state great. At Stacey's, you can be sure to find a stiff drink, a hearty meal, country music and the love of the West - all served-up in an environment where everyone feels welcomed.

Olea Kiosks, Inc. Announces Strategic Partnership with UrVenue

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Olea Kiosks®, Inc., a visionary provider of self-service kiosk solutions, today announced a strategic partnership with UrVenue, the leading hospitality technology platform that powers commerce, enhances the guest experience and monetizes a resort's real estate. With conveniently placed Olea kiosks on-property, this partnership enables venues and hotel properties to layer in another customer touchpoint that drives self-service revenue with transactions that are contactless, resource-free, branded, and always open for business.

With more than 40 years of delivering self-service solutions, Olea Kiosks® understands the value of reducing friction in the guest experience. Urvenue's 10+ years of experience in the resorts and hospitality realm and its ability to leverage its technology to monetize non-room inventory and other guest touchpoints during the in-stay journey solves one of the greatest challenges for resort managers. Combining UrVenue's powerful booking platform with self-service kiosks puts guests in complete control.

"It's exciting to partner with another U.S.-based company so focused on technology that puts the power in the hands of the user," said Frank Olea, CEO of the company that now spans four generations. "Self-service kiosks equipped with the same technology used across all customer touch points helps with workforce management and removes mundane tasks like order and payment entry to allow staff to focus on higher-value tasks that truly enhance the guest experience," added Olea.

"Partnering with a trusted kiosk brand such as Olea will help unlock the full potential of UrVenue to resorts and venues all over the world," said Deron Pearson, CEO of UrVenue. "Together we'll be able to service customers with what they want, when they want in a safe and easy way as well as provide resorts with important insights, data and guest management."

An Olea kiosk paired with UrVenue's booking solution puts hospitality patrons in the driver's seat with frictionless, on-property, cashier-less, self-service booking capabilities. Guests can now book and transact any inventory within UrVenue, including but not limited to, special event ticketing such as seasonal pop-up experiences, show tickets, restaurant reservations, pool-side cabanas, nightclub and day club admission, special promotion vouchers, sportsbook lounge seats and bundled on-property experiences to name a few.

UrVenue's hospitality-built booking platform makes it is easy to transact any type of non-room inventory on property and with Olea's flexible, modular design, the physical unit can be branded and designed for custom transactions including physical outputs such as show tickets or customized promotional vouchers or wristbands.

The pandemic has created significant disruption for the hospitality industry. Self-service kiosks reduce human interaction at a time when guests of all ages are comfortable using kiosks. In addition, venues can eliminate wait times with reservations, long lines, and processing payments, while increasing ticket lift dramatically, at a time when every second and penny of revenue counts.

Circa Resort and Casino will be the first resort to use the Olea with UrVenue kiosk at the beginning of 2021.

Long Island Based National Facility Service Firms Announce Fourth Annual ‘Food Drive’ Now A ‘Thankful Event’

MEDFORD, N.Y. /ScoopCloud/ -- Professional Retail Services (PRS), Retail Security Services (RSS), and Retail Mechanical Services (RMS) are affiliated national facility service companies based in Long Island. The three entities have teamed up for the fourth year in a row to honor their tradition of giving back to the community.

This year, in place of a traditional food drive where employees, friends, and family donate food items; the three affiliated companies decided to fund the event's donations and rename the "Food Drive" to a "Thankful Event."

The food items packaged as meal kits will feed 600 Suffolk residents this holiday season. The kits will be donated and delivered to the William Floyd School District and HELP Suffolk on November 23rd for disbursement. Each meal kit includes two boxes of stuffing, two boxes of mashed potatoes, two desserts, four cans of vegetables, one can of cranberry sauce, two boxes of corn muffins, two packets of gravy, and one 8 - 12 lb. frozen turkey.

Kathleen Larmour, president and founder of all three companies, had this to say regarding the beloved event:

"We have many reasons to be thankful, and what better way to celebrate that than to rename our event while keeping our yearly tradition of helping those in need.

"Many have endured financial hardship due to the pandemic, which is why we decided that funding this event and not having friends and family donate was appropriate."

Larmour added, "This year we are extremely thankful for our loyal employees, customers, and service partners. This would not have been possible without them."
