Loco Lion Brewery Announces Grand Opening October 4, Bringing British-Inspired Craft Beer and Countryside Views to Loudoun County

New farm brewery features unique lion heritage story, sustainable practices, and panoramic hilltop setting

HILLSBORO, Va., Oct. 2, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Loco Lion Brewery, Loudoun County’s newest farm brewery and winery, will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at its 26-acre hilltop location at 36577 Heskett Lane in Hillsboro. The brewery adds a distinctive British-American craft beer experience to Loudoun’s thriving brewery cluster while offering breathtaking views of the western Loudoun countryside.

The grand opening celebration from noon to 9pm will feature live music, tastings of Loco Lion’s 10 rotating craft beers, and prize giveaways including appetizers and merchandise. The dog-friendly brewery welcomes families and four-legged friends to explore both indoor and outdoor seating areas.

“We’re thrilled to finally open our doors and share our vision of a true countryside escape with the Loudoun community,” said Laura Starego, co-owner of Loco Lion Brewery. “We’ve created more than just a brewery – we’ve built a gathering place where neighbors can connect over exceptional craft beer while enjoying some of the best views in the county.”

“Bringing authentic British brewing traditions to Virginia has been a dream of mine,” added Nigel Rourke, co-owner and England native. “Combined with locally-sourced ingredients and our head brewer’s American craft innovation, we’re offering something truly unique to the area – a perfect blend of Old World charm and New World creativity.”

The brewery’s distinctive name weaves together multiple stories: “Loco” represents both Loudoun County and the Spanish word for “crazy,” while “Lion” honors three connections – two African lion siblings, Jezebel and Justin, who lived in Loudoun in the early 1980s and found their final resting place on the property; England’s Three Lions crest (reflecting Rourke’s English heritage); and Penn State’s Nittany Lion (Starego’s alma mater).

Loco Lion features a 10-barrel brewing system. The brewery offers 12 rotating taps, wine, seltzers, and a British pub-inspired menu featuring locally sourced ingredients. Head Brewer, Jose, formerly of Boston Beer Company, leads the brewing operations, creating unique beers that capture both Loudoun’s spirit and the Loco Lion story.

The brewery demonstrates its commitment to sustainability through pollinator-friendly landscaping with native plants, eco-friendly materials and practices, and plans to work toward green brewery certification. The location in historic Hillsboro, a Quaker settlement dating to 1752, provides a scenic backdrop for the modern craft brewery experience.

Beginning October 4, Loco Lion will be open Wednesday through Sunday: Wednesday and Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The brewery is available for private events and will host live entertainment, special events including fundraisers for local charity organizations, and watch parties for Penn State football and English Premier League soccer matches throughout the year.

Vintage Americana Comes to Life at New Paul Stanley Museum in Los Angeles

Celebrating the Iconic Advertising Artistry Behind Hamm's Beer, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, and More

LOS ANGELES, Calif., Sept. 11, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — A forgotten genius of mid-century advertising is finally getting his due. The newly launched Paul Stanley Museum, opening in Los Angeles in 2026, will honor the legacy of Paul Stanley Company – the creative powerhouse behind some of America’s most beloved animated beer and soda advertising signs.

Paul Stanley Museum - Hamm's Beer Helicopter
Photo caption: Paul Stanley Museum – Hamm’s Beer Helicopter.

From the late 1940s through the late 1960s, Stanley’s whimsical, motorized displays were used as traveling point-of-sale merchandising units, bringing grocery and retail store aisles to life with dancing animals, bubbling beers, and twinkling lights. His unique designs for Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Hamm’s Beer, and Mother’s Cookies—often mistaken for mechanical toys—are now highly prized by collectors and historians alike.

Founded by Dr. Michael Miller, the museum will serve as the first public archive devoted entirely to Paul Stanley’s mechanical sign work. “This was advertising as kinetic sculpture,” says Miller. “Stanley’s artistry bridged engineering and charm—every piece told a story in motion.”

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE COLLECTION INCLUDE:

  • The original Hamm’s Beer Bear rotating helicopter display (circa 1964)
  • A Pepsi-Cola “winking bottle” light-up sign with moving eyes
  • The rare Mother’s Cookies animated Cowboy; once placed in California grocery stores
  • Behind-the-scenes photographs and schematics of Stanley’s San Francisco workshop

The museum also aims to educate younger generations about the handmade ingenuity of pre-digital advertising. Through interactive exhibits, restoration demonstrations, and guided tours, visitors can experience how these pieces were built – gear by gear, bulb by bulb.

“We’re not just preserving signs,” Miller says. “We’re preserving a uniquely American moment—when retail displays came alive with lights, motion, and imagination.”

The Paul Stanley Museum is set to open in Spring 2026 in the Arts District of downtown Los Angeles.

For press inquiries, interviews, or early access to the private collection, please contact Dr. Michael Miller at: contact@paulstanleymuseum.com.

ABOUT PAUL STANLEY COMPANY

Operating out of San Francisco from the late 1940s to the late 1960s, the Paul Stanley Company was known for creating animated point-of-purchase displays and lighted motion signs, especially for beverage and snack companies. While little was known about the company until recent years, surviving pieces have become legendary among collectors of vintage advertising memorabilia.

‘COME TOGETHER — A Community for Wine’ Announces Second Annual ‘Come Over October’ Campaign

Building on Record-Breaking 2024 Success, Initiative Prepares to Expand Wine Community Connections Nationwide - and Internationally

ST. HELENA, Calif., July 24, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — COME TOGETHER — A Community for Wine today announced that planning is underway for its highly anticipated second annual “Come Over October” campaign, building on the extraordinary success of 2024’s inaugural initiative. The community-driven wine platform continues to demonstrate the power of authentic connection through wine appreciation, preparing to expand its reach and impact even further this fall.

2024 CAMPAIGN ACHIEVES UNPRECEDENTED SUCCESS

The inaugural Come Over October campaign delivered remarkable results across all metrics, reaching an estimated 1.7 billion unique visitor impressions (UVMs) and engaging over 10 million people through diverse channels. The campaign generated significant momentum with 4 million social media impressions through patron and friend networks, reached 1 million consumers through in-store traffic across 900+ retail locations including Total Wine and Kroger, and achieved 3 million advertising impressions through features in Wine Enthusiast, Tasting Panel Magazine, SOMM Journal, VinePair, Wine Folly, and other leading publications.

SPRING SUCCESS BUILDS MOMENTUM FOR FALL

Following the success of Come Over October 2024, COME TOGETHER’s 2025 Share & Pair Sundays spring campaign achieved additional milestones, generating over 122 million unique visitor impressions from 300+ media articles, reaching 4.5 million consumers through in-store activations across 500+ retail locations in 43 designated market areas, and creating 89,000+ social media impressions.

TEN WAYS TO COME OVER OCTOBER

  • The 2025 campaign will feature ten curated suggestions for bringing people together through wine, including:
  • Game Day gatherings with wine and snacks
  • Best Friend nights centered around cooking dinner together
  • Neighborhood Potlucks that build community connections,
  • Leaves Changing Color celebrations with white, red and rosé tastings after autumn walks
  • At-home wine tasting parties for old and new friends
  • Wine Book Club gatherings that combine reading with regional wine exploration
  • Renewed Sunday Supper traditions
  • End of October costume parties featuring bewitching wines
  • TGIF Wine and Cheese gatherings after work
  • Love Your Local Winery visits to support the wineries in all 50 states.

ALECIA MOORE (STAGE NAME PINK) HIGHLIGHTS WINE’S HUMAN CONNECTION

The campaign will feature a video from a recent exclusive interview with winemaker Alecia Moore, (stage name Pink), who eloquently articulates wine’s power to foster meaningful human connection. “When you open a bottle of wine, you open a conversation,” Moore shared. “You get to learn where someone is from, what their favorite childhood memories might be, what their favorite scent is and why, when they had their first heartbreak. We bond over these stories.”

Moore’s perspective resonates particularly strongly in today’s increasingly digital world: “The more and more that we disconnect through devices and tuning out, the more we will see that our souls will be hungry for connection.” She emphasizes wine’s unique role in fostering authentic relationships, noting that “Wine is a very human experience. We need to inject more humanity back in the world.”

See Alecia’s recent interview with Karen MacNeil here (YouTube): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RV_rTnx8to4

INDUSTRY LEADERS CHAMPION COMMUNITY CONNECTION

The campaign’s founders continue to champion the initiative’s core mission of building authentic wine communities.

“The inspiration for these campaigns comes from a simple but powerful belief: wine is meant to bring people together,” said Karen MacNeil, acclaimed wine author and co-founder of COME TOGETHER. “When we create spaces for authentic connection around wine, we’re not just sharing bottles – we’re connecting communities, cultures, and perspectives. That’s the true spirit driving everything we do.”

Gino Colangelo of Colangelo & Partners emphasized the broad industry support driving the initiative’s success: “The level of industry support we’ve witnessed has been truly remarkable. From small family wineries to major industry players, everyone understands that fostering genuine community with wine drinkers benefits us all. This isn’t just about marketing; it’s about strengthening the entire wine ecosystem through community-building and authentic connections.”

Kimberly Noelle Charles, DipWSET of Charles Communications Associates, highlighted the campaign’s unprecedented reach and resonance: “What we’re seeing is unprecedented reach and resonance across all segments of the wine world. We’re narrowing the gap between industry insiders and passionate consumers in ways that create lasting value for everyone involved. The response from trade professionals has been overwhelming, but equally exciting is how these initiatives are connecting with everyday wine enthusiasts through everything from intimate winery experiences to major retail activations.”

FALL PLANS

The Come Together team is planning on hosting press conferences this fall in New York City and Washington DC. In a nod to the international reach of this movement, this year, the country of Canada, through Wine Growers Canada, will be executing a countrywide Come Over October program.

Glancy Wine Education Foundation Celebrates 5th Anniversary with Expanding National Impact

Milestone year with increased scholarship recipients and robust fall programming

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., July 10, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Glancy Wine Education Foundation (GWEF) today celebrates the 5th anniversary of its founding with the release of its mid-year impact data, highlighting important growth in scholarship awards, industry sponsorship, and national reach. Since 2020, GWEF has awarded 249 scholarships to aspiring wine professionals from underserved communities across the United States, with total distributions of $350,000 in funding.

“We are thrilled to see the transformative impact GWEF has made in our first five years as a foundation and the accelerated engagement thus far in 2025,” said Ana Keller, President of GWEF. “We are dedicated to continuing this work, expanding our community, and building a more diverse wine industry for a sustainable future.”

“Being inclusive and growing diversity in the wine industry is critical for our industry wellbeing and requires all of us to lean in. Expanding our reach to support students nationally has clearly demonstrated to us that there is significant demand for this kind of education and the kind of financial support we provide,” stated Keller.

Born from necessity during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, GWEF emerged as an industry response to support individuals facing shutdowns and layoffs throughout the hospitality sector. What began as immediate relief evolved into addressing a deeper need for inclusion and diversity within the wine industry.

“We rapidly saw that the need included not only career development but also support for more inclusion and diversity within the wine industry,” explained Alder Yarrow, Vice President of GWEF. “We decided to create a foundation that would engage and encourage wine-curious professionals – at whatever their employment level and from all walks of life – to advance their journey through deeper education and training.”

The foundation’s impact extends across diverse population groups nationwide, spanning both urban centers and underserved rural communities. GWEF Scholarships give recipients access to prestigious wine education programs offered by the foundation’s educational partners in San Francisco, New York, and several cities in the Midwest (Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland and Cincinnati). Available programs include Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) qualifications, Society of Wine Educators certifications, Wine Scholar Guild programs, and other specialized courses and certifications.

GWEF’s fifth anniversary year launched with significant national expansion through strategic partnerships with the International Wine Center in New York City, the American Wine School in Chicago, and the Association of African American Vintners in addition to its founding partner school, the San Francisco Wine School.

Building on this momentum, GWEF prepares for its annual board retreat and strategic planning session focusing on the annual Online Auction Fundraiser this September 2025, along with events and activities for 2025-2026. To stay up to date, visit https://www.glancywineeducationfoundation.org/news

“Our fundraising team is working closely with wineries, educational foundations, wholesale and retail partners, private individuals and more organizations who want to walk the walk of supporting diversity within the wine industry,” noted Alder Yarrow, Vice President, GWEF.

Professionals in need of financial aid, are encouraged to apply for scholarships year-round at https://GlancyWineEducationFoundation.org/. Applications are available in Spanish and English. Awards are made monthly.

Established in 2020, The Glancy Wine Education Foundation (GWEF) is a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization dedicated to assisting underserved and minority communities with scholarships to further their professional wine education, increase diversity, and raise earning power. Paul Stanley Sign Museum to Open in Los Angeles, Celebrating Whimsical Advertising History

Showcasing Rare Motion Displays from the Golden Age of Consumer Product Advertising

LOS ANGELES, Calif., July 2, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The world of vintage advertising is getting a new home. Opening in 2026, the Paul Stanley Sign Museum, a nonprofit organization, in Los Angeles will pay tribute to the visionary work of Paul Stanley & Company, the San Francisco-based design firm behind some of the most imaginative and visually striking point-of-sale advertising displays ever created.

The Paul Stanley Sign Museum to open in Los Angeles, celebrating whimsical advertising history
Image caption: The Paul Stanley Sign Museum to open in Los Angeles, celebrating whimsical advertising history.

Founded by designer Paul Stanley in the late 1940s at 180 First Street in San Francisco, the company became renowned for its large-scale, animated floor displays for vendors of beer, soda, cookies, and other consumable products. These whimsical, motion-based installations were eye-catching, colorful, mechanically simple – and brilliantly effective.

“These displays were so inventive and visually powerful that they left a lasting impression on shoppers,” said Dr. Michael Miller, founder of the museum. “They’re among the most unique advertising pieces ever built.”

Each installation was custom-designed and tailored for specific clients, often sharing mechanical patterns while maintaining distinct themes and visual identities. With their blend of theatrical motion, merchandising genius, and timeless charm, Paul Stanley’s designs helped define mid-century American in-store marketing.

Many original displays, design sketches, and blueprints have been preserved and will now be featured in a permanent public collection at the museum.

Museum Highlights Will Include:

– Rare animated advertising displays from the 1950s-1960s

– Original design documents, motion blueprints, and concept art

– Brand showcases featuring Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Mother’s Cookies, Hamm’s Beer and more

– A digital archive and oral history narrative chronicling Paul Stanley’s design legacy

About the Paul Stanley Sign Museum:

Opening in Los Angeles in 2026, the Paul Stanley Sign Museum is the only museum exclusively dedicated to the work of Paul Stanley & Company; one of the most inventive advertising firms of the 20th century. The museum celebrates a golden era when consumer marketing was bold, mechanical, and unforgettable, reviving a lost chapter in American commercial art.

‘COME TOGETHER — A Community for Wine’ Concludes Successful ‘Share & Pair Sundays’ Spring Campaign: Announces Second Annual ‘Come Over October’ Initiative

Community-driven wine platform builds consumer global awareness and industry support

HELENA, Calif., June 5, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — COME TOGETHER – A Community for Wine, a mission-driven company focused on wine advocacy, today announced the successful conclusion of its inaugural Share & Pair Sundays spring campaign while announcing plans for its highly anticipated second annual “Come Over October” campaign this fall. Through both initiatives, the organization, founded by three wine industry leaders, has demonstrated the power of community-driven advocacy to reach consumers with positive messages about wine.

Image caption: COME TOGETHER – A Community for Wine.

SPRING SUCCESS SETS STAGE FOR FALL GROWTH

The Share & Pair Sundays campaign achieved remarkable success throughout the spring season, generating over 122 million unique visitor impressions from 300+ media articles, reaching 4.5 million consumers through in-store activations across 500+ retail locations in 43 designated market areas, and creating 89,000+ social media impressions. The campaign brought together wine lovers nationwide, creating meaningful connections and shared experiences around wine appreciation through diverse activations ranging from winery events to retail partnerships. Building on this momentum, COME TOGETHER — A Community for Wine is preparing to launch its second annual Come Over October campaign, which promises to expand the community’s reach and impact even further.

“The inspiration for these campaigns comes from a simple but powerful belief: wine is meant to bring people together,” said Karen MacNeil, reflecting on the campaign’s origins. “When we create spaces for authentic connection around wine, we’re not just sharing bottles – we’re connecting communities, cultures, and perspectives. That’s the true spirit driving everything we do.”

INDUSTRY SUPPORT FUELS COMMUNITY GROWTH

The campaigns have garnered significant support from across the wine industry, with sponsors and partners recognizing the value of community-centered initiatives. Notable participants included premier wineries such as Far Niente, PEJU Winery, and J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines, retail partners such as Gary’s Wine & Marketplace and Kroger through Constellation Brands, and regional wine organizations including Paso Robles Wine Country and Texas Fine Wine among many others. This broad coalition has been instrumental in the organization’s ability to raise awareness on a global scale.

“The level of industry support we’ve witnessed has been truly remarkable,” noted Gino Colangelo, speaking to the broad coalition backing the initiatives. “From small family wineries to major industry players, everyone understands that fostering genuine wine communities with wine drinkers benefits us all. This isn’t just about marketing; it’s about strengthening the entire wine ecosystem through community and authentic connections.”

DEMONSTRATED SUCCESS ACROSS MULTIPLE CHANNELS

The Share & Pair Sundays campaign’s success was evident across diverse activation channels. Wineries like Peju Vineyards created dynamic 10-week culinary experiences featuring global flavors, while Far Niente Wine Estates aligned the campaign with their signature “Il Dolce Far Niente” philosophy. Retail partners achieved significant results, with Constellation Brands and Kroger delivering over 4.4 million impressions and receiving nearly $12,000 in bonus media value. Regional wine organizations including Paso Robles Wine Country and Texas Fine Wine amplified the message through podcasts and social media, while cultural collaborations with nationally notable figures such as Italian chef and PBS personality, Lidia Bastianich brought additional depth and authenticity to the campaign.

“What we’re seeing is unprecedented reach and resonance across all segments of the wine world,” explained Kimberly Noelle Charles, highlighting the campaigns’ broad appeal. “From over 122 million media impressions to 4.5 million in-store consumer touchpoints, we’re narrowing the gap between industry insiders and passionate consumers in ways that create lasting value for everyone involved. The response from trade professionals has been overwhelming, but equally exciting is how these initiatives are connecting with everyday wine enthusiasts through everything from intimate winery experiences to major retail activations.”

FALL PLANS INCLUDE HIGH-PROFILE EVENTS

COME TOGETHER — A Community for Wine, has ambitious plans for the fall season, including a second Congressional Wine Caucus tasting, building on the success of previous legislative engagement efforts. The organization will also host press conferences in both New York City and Washington, D.C., to highlight the growing influence of community-driven wine advocacy.

These events underscore the organization’s commitment to elevating wine’s role in cultural and policy discussions while maintaining its grassroots community focus.

SPONSOR RECOGNITION AND SUPPORT

Come Together extends gratitude to its 2025 sponsors, whose support has been essential to the campaigns’ success. Foundational sponsors included: Freixenet Mionetto, J.Lohr Vineyards & Wines, Jackson Family Wines and Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits. World’s Strongest Coffee Released: Cafely’s BanMe Blend

LAS VEGAS, Nev., May 12, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Cafely, the premium Vietnamese coffee brand known for bold flavor profiles, today announced the official release of BanMe, its most potent offering yet and a legitimate contender for the world’s strongest coffee. These exceptional beans are sourced directly from Vietnam’s renowned coffee capital, Buon Ma Thuot, at an altitude of 800 meters in the lush Central Highlands.

Cafely’s BanMe Blend
Photo caption: Cafely’s BanMe Blend.

BanMe stands apart through its exclusive use of rare peaberry beans—nature’s concentrated powerhouses that constitute just 5% of coffee harvests.

“This isn’t just another strong coffee—it’s an entirely different category of energy,” explains Mimi Nguyen, Cafely co-founder. “We’ve created BanMe for those who find conventional coffee insufficient for their demanding days. The 100% peaberry robusta composition delivers approximately twice the caffeine of standard arabica beans while maintaining a surprisingly complex flavor profile.”

What Do Customers Say About Cafely’s Strongest Coffee?

Early customer feedback has been enthusiastic, with BanMe earning a 4.78/5 rating from over 250 verified buyers.

One reviewer notes: “The intense flavors explode in your mouth with a lingering cherry aftertaste. And what a powerful caffeine rush!”

Despite its formidable strength, BanMe offers remarkable flavor complexity with tasting notes of dark chocolate, toasted almond, and black cherry. The natural dry processing method preserves these distinctive characteristics while developing the coffee’s full-bodied richness.

“What separates BanMe from other high-caffeine coffees is our refusal to sacrifice flavor for strength,” adds Alex, Cafely co-founder. “Many competitors boost caffeine content at the expense of taste. We’ve demonstrated you can have both when you start with exceptional beans and apply meticulous roasting techniques.”

Cafely maintains its commitment to ethical sourcing through direct farmer partnerships in Vietnam, ensuring fair compensation while protecting the environment. A portion of all profits supports initiatives dedicated to fighting climate change through the company’s partnership with Rainforest Trust.

BanMe Coffee is available for purchase in both whole bean and ground formats, with special introductory pricing of $21.95 (regularly $25.95). All orders include Cafely’s 100% Happiness Guarantee with a 60-day risk-free trial.

As climate challenges intensify, Domaine Carneros continues its commitment to leading with a light footprint while crafting the highest quality wines.”

REVOLUTIONARY MICROGRID TECHNOLOGY

In partnership with Schneider Electric, named the world’s most sustainable company by Time magazine, Domaine Carneros deployed the EcoStruxure™ Microgrid in 2023, doubling the winery’s energy generation capacity. The system integrates 614 upgraded solar panels generating 427 kilowatts of clean energy with a 250KVA battery backup and generator. This infrastructure ensures uninterrupted operations during increasingly common power outages due to wildfires and severe weather events, and the system stores excess solar energy generated during the day for use in the evenings or early mornings during peak demand.

The microgrid’s intelligent controls leverage AI to optimize energy usage in real time, resulting in significant operational benefits:

  • Self-generation of nearly 80% of energy for winery operations
  • Annual savings of $70,000
  • Ability to operate in “island mode” during grid outages
  • Solar power production of 740MWh in the last year, equivalent to taking 110 cars off the road

The system also powers four electric vehicle charging stations for guests, seamlessly integrating green technology throughout the visitor experience.

AWARD-WINNING ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICES

Domaine Carneros’ comprehensive approach to sustainability has earned numerous prestigious recognitions, including:

  • 2025 RISE Leadership Award for Energy Efficiency and Savings
  • 2024 City of Napa Leadership Recycling Award
  • 2023 RISE Leadership Award for waste prevention and supply chain greening
  • 2020 Napa Climate NOW! Climate Champion in the Business Category
  • 2019 California Green Medal Business Award

The winery maintains multiple environmental certifications, including California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance, Napa Green Vineyard & Winery, Bay Area Green Business, and Fish Friendly Farming.

BEYOND ENERGY: COMPREHENSIVE SUSTAINABILITY

Domaine Carneros implements sustainability throughout its operations:

  • Diverting approximately 90% of solid waste from landfills through composting, recycling, and reuse
  • Recycling and reusing water used in production to irrigate estate vineyards
  • Reusing 20-25% of packaging materials, saving over a million pieces since 2010
  • Practicing Integrated Pest Management with owl boxes and beneficial cover crops
  • Composting approximately 450,000 pounds of food waste since 2013
  • Implementing lighter weight bottles to reduce shipping impacts
  • Offsetting carbon emissions from wine club shipments

“Our commitment to environmental stewardship is fundamentally rooted in our estate vineyards under Allison Wilson’s visionary stewardship,” says Remi Cohen, CEO of Domaine Carneros. “This commitment is further demonstrated through two decades of solar energy innovation powering our winemaking, ensuring our tradition of excellence thrives sustainably for generations to come.”

Merriam Vineyards Celebrates Earth Day 2025 With Quarter-Century Legacy of Environmental Stewardship

Family's Multi-Generational Commitment to Land Conservation Highlighted During 25th Anniversary Year

HEALDSBURG, Calif., April 10, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — As the world marks the 55th annual Earth Day, Merriam Vineyards showcases its 25-year journey of sustainable winegrowing in the Russian River Valley AVA, where environmental stewardship has been woven into the fabric of their operation since inception. The winery’s anniversary year coincides with this global celebration of environmental action, highlighting how their conservation practices are deeply rooted in family traditions predating the vineyard’s establishment.

Image caption: (L to R) William Weese, Diana Merriam, Peter Merriam, Evan Merriam. Photo credit Alexander Rubin.

“Our commitment to the land isn’t just a business decision—it’s a family philosophy spanning generations,” explains Peter Merriam, who, along with his wife Diana, founded the winery in 2000. “Growing up in Maine, I learned organic farming methods from my father, spent countless hours fly fishing in our watersheds, and developed a deep appreciation for nature. These early experiences shaped our approach to viticulture long before sustainability became an industry buzzword.”

This Earth Day, Merriam Vineyards celebrates significant environmental milestones achieved across its three distinct estate properties totaling 45 acres. The winery recently completed organic certification for its production facility through CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers), complementing the organic certification held by its Los Amigos Estate since 2012. Additionally, the Eastside Estate Vineyard earned Fish Friendly Farming certification in December 2024, recognizing the winery’s efforts to protect the Mark West Creek watershed and critical habitats for steelhead trout and coho salmon.

“Our environmental practices aren’t compartmentalized—they form a comprehensive ecosystem approach,” notes Estate Manager Evan Merriam, representing the next generation of family leadership. “From our Babydoll sheep providing natural vineyard management to our cattle grazing for fire protection, we’re implementing solutions that honor the interconnectedness of all life on our estate.”

Diana Merriam’s Greek heritage has further influenced the property’s Mediterranean-inspired design and ecological philosophy. “Mediterranean culture has always emphasized living in harmony with the natural world,” she explains. “Our landscape redesign, completed with Munden Fry Landscape Associates, creates outdoor spaces that connect visitors directly with our vineyards and natural surroundings, emphasizing the relationship between sustainable farming and exceptional wines.”

The winery’s Earth Day initiatives build upon a foundation of environmental practices that include:

  • Comprehensive watershed protection strategies at the Eastside Estate, particularly for the Mark West Creek tributary of the Russian River
  • Introduction of Babydoll sheep for natural vineyard management, reducing reliance on machinery and improving soil health
  • Cattle grazing for range management and fire protection on outlying hills
  • Progression toward no-till farming methods to minimize carbon emissions
  • Installation of hedgerows to prevent erosion along riparian corridors
  • Rigorous organic and sustainable certifications across all properties, including CCOF, CCSW (Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing), and Sonoma Sustainable designations
  • Using 100% of the wastewater at the winery as part of its water reclamation efforts

William Weese, Merriam’s winemaker, sees direct connections between these environmental practices and wine quality, influenced by his formative training under renowned Chilean organic pioneer Alvaro Espinoza. “Working with Alvaro in Chile shaped my understanding of how organic farming creates vineyard resilience and wine authenticity,” Weese notes. “Our minimal intervention approach in the vineyard translates to minimal intervention in the cellar. By nurturing healthy soils and ecosystems the way Alvaro taught, we’re able to produce wines that genuinely express the terroir of this special place, with vibrant natural acidity and balanced flavors that don’t require manipulation.”

“As we mark both Earth Day and our 25th anniversary, we’re looking forward to the next quarter-century of environmental stewardship,” Peter Merriam reflects. “The work we do today—enhancing soil health, protecting watersheds, reducing our carbon footprint—creates a legacy for future generations. That’s always been the heart of our mission at Merriam Vineyards.”

About Merriam Vineyards:

Established in 2000 in Sonoma, CA’s Russian River AVA by husband-and-wife Peter and Diana Merriam, Merriam Vineyards specializes in Bordeaux and Burgundy varieties and was born from the couple’s love of Old-World wines and extensive European travels. Recognizing the immense potential for producing distinctive single-vineyard wines in Sonoma, the Merriam’s acquired what would become known as the Windacre Vineyard in 2000, adding Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec plantings beyond its existing Merlot vines and establishing the quality of Bordeaux varieties in a region primarily known for cool-climate wines.

The couple expanded its estate into Burgundian varieties with the planting of its Los Amigos property in 2008 and in 2022, purchased the Eastside Estate, with a focus on cool-climate Pinot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The winery’s rigorous, decades-long commitment to sustainable viticulture and production resulted in the prestigious CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers) certification for its Los Amigos estate (2012) and winery (2023), as well as CCSW (Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing) certification for its Eastside Estate and Windacre vineyard. Son Evan Merriam represents the Merriam’s next generation as estate manager.

Glancy Wine Education Foundation Expands to Become National Scholarship Organization

New partnerships with International Wine Center, American Wine School, and Association of African American Vintners broaden wine education opportunities across the US

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., March 10, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Glancy Wine Education Foundation (GWEF) is proud to announce its expansion to become a national scholarship organization through strategic partnerships with the International Wine Center in New York, the American Wine School in the Midwest, and the Association of African American Vintners (AAAV). Combined with the foundation’s existing partnership with the San Francisco Wine School, these collaborations significantly extend GWEF’s geographic reach, enabling more aspiring wine professionals across the United States access to high-quality wine education.

Glancy Wine Education Foundation

The Foundation’s new alliance with the International Wine Center brings GWEF scholarship opportunities to New York, while the partnership with American Wine School extends access to virtual and in-person classes across multiple Midwestern cities including Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, and Cincinnati. Additionally, following the January 2025 launch of GWEF’s collaboration with the Association of African American Vintners, AAAV members now have enhanced access to professional wine education through GWEF scholarships.

“These partnerships mark a significant milestone in our mission to make wine education more accessible to underserved communities nationwide,” said Ana Keller, President of the Glancy Wine Education Foundation. “By expanding our reach from coast to coast, we can now help a much broader range of students develop their careers through professional wine certifications.”

The expansion builds on GWEF’s strong foundation of educational support. Since its establishment in 2020, inspired by the vision of San Francisco Wine School co-owners, Master Sommelier David Glancy and COO, Kristin Campbell, the Foundation has focused on providing scholarships to underserved and minority communities to further their professional wine education, increase diversity in the industry, and raise earning potential.

Glancy notes, “The pandemic magnified areas where the wine industry needed to develop opportunities for educational support. Many communities in our industry were lacking access to the educational programs needed to advance their careers, and the Foundation was conceived to address that issue. It’s exciting to see that original vision expanded to operate on a national scale.”

“The wine industry benefits tremendously from diverse perspectives and backgrounds,” said Alder Yarrow, Vice President of GWEF. “These new partnerships mean we can now support aspiring professionals from many more communities across America.”

Scholarship recipients will have access to prestigious wine education programs through GWEF’s educational partners, including Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) qualifications, Society of Wine Educators certifications, Wine Scholar Guild programs, as well as other proprietary courses and certifications.

Professionals in need of financial aid are encouraged to apply for scholarships year-round at GlancyWineEducationFoundation.org. Awards are made monthly.

About The Glancy Wine Education Foundation:

Established in 2020, The Glancy Wine Education Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization dedicated to assisting underserved and minority communities with scholarships to further their professional wine education in the hopes of increasing diversity, raising earning power, and growing the knowledge base of tomorrow’s wine professionals. Cal Poly Pomona’s Collins College Hosts Historic 26-Year Robert Mondavi Wine Vertical

LOS ANGELES, Calif., Feb. 27, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Collins College of Hospitality Management at Cal Poly Pomona recently hosted an extraordinary fundraising event featuring a complete 26-year vertical tasting of Robert Mondavi Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon spanning 1982-2007. The exceptional experience, hosted at the prestigious Jonathan Club in Los Angeles, celebrated the College’s long-standing relationship with the Mondavi family while offering guests a rare opportunity to appreciate California wine history through the lens of hospitality education.

A LEGACY OF CONNECTION

The Collins College of Hospitality Management and the Robert Mondavi Winery have a relationship that spans more than three decades. Dean Margie Ferree Jones first connected with Robert and Margrit Biever Mondavi in 1991, when the American Institute of Wine and Food (AIWF) — championed by luminaries including Julia Child and the Mondavis — endorsed the school to host a student chapter.

“When the Mondavis visited our campus alongside Julia Child, Robert shared his mission to encourage people to enjoy ‘the good life’ – a philosophy that has guided our approach to hospitality education ever since,” recalled Dean Margie Ferree Jones. “Margrit even adorned students’ menu cards with her charming doodles during that visit. Those personal touches highlighted the warmth that define gracious hospitality.”

The vertical tasting featured wines from the personal collection of Barry Bloom, a dedicated wine collector and hospitality leader who generously donated his complete vertical of Mondavi Reserve Cabernets to support the college’s educational mission.

“I began collecting in the late 1980s with the intention of creating complete verticals rather than only acquiring the acclaimed vintages,” noted Bloom. “What made this tasting particularly special was experiencing the evolution of these wines across a quarter century. Each vintage tells a story about that particular season, the winemaking approach of that era, and the historical context.”

Bloom’s collection, which spanned from 1982 to 2007, represented a significant period in California winemaking history. He intentionally concluded his collection with the 2007 vintage to mark Robert Mondavi’s passing in 2008. The 26-year consecutive vertical proved remarkable even to Mondavi Brand Manager, Euming Lee and Director of Winemaking, Kurtis Ogasawara, in attendance, who observed they had never experienced a consecutive tasting of this length before.

Dean Margie Ferree Jones of The Collins College of Hospitality Management emphasized the educational impact of such experiences. “Salon events such as this underscore our commitment to train the next generation of hospitality professionals, with an appreciation for the cultural significance paired with fine details of exceptional service.”

The Jonathan Club’s culinary team, led by Chef Andreas Roller and Sommelier Caitlin Stansbury, orchestrated an exquisite multi-course dinner intentionally designed to complement the flights of wine.

The menu featured:

  • Sparkling Robert Mondavi “The Estates” 2021 with hors d’oeuvres
  • Pan Seared Hudson Valley Foie Gras with blackberry gastrique, brioche, and yuzu, paired with Mondavi Reserve Cabernets from 1982-1987
  • California Squab with chanterelles, brussels sprouts, and red beet, accompanied by vintages from 1988-1993
  • Braised Lamb with black winter truffle, spinach cavatelli, and gremolata, complemented by vintages from 1994-2000
  • Snake River Farms American Wagyu Beef with watercress, charred onion, and parmesan, served with vintages from 2001-2007
  • Tarte Tatin with sugar bee apples and Tahitian vanilla chantilly, paired with Sauvito Sauvignon Blanc/Sémillon 2018

The event was choreographed to coincide with the Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS) and drew participation from several members of Collins College Board of Advisors, alumni, and industry leaders. Eva Wasserman, alumna and member of The Collins College of Hospitality Management’s Board of Advisors, shared “The Mondavi tasting was an extraordinary event showcasing the Collins College’s valuable connections with the industry and vast educational exposure available to the students.”

The Collins College of Hospitality Management continues its mission of inspiring future industry leaders through its experiential curriculum and practical experiences that bring theory to life. Rather than simply requesting financial support, the College is focused on creating meaningful engagement opportunities that align donors’ values with tangible educational outcomes.

The Collins College invites industry partners and supporters to join them at their annual fundraiser, Hospitality Uncorked, on March 22, where Bob Alter will be honored as the latest recipient of the Robert Mondavi Wine & Food Award — continuing a tradition that connects back to the College’s early relationship with the Mondavi family. Attendees will have opportunities to interact directly with faculty and students, gaining insight into how their support translates to industry-ready graduates who carry forward Mondavi’s vision of hospitality as a celebration of “La Dolce Vita.”

Merriam Vineyards Celebrates 25 Years of Winegrowing Excellence in Russian River Valley

Quarter-Century Milestone Marked by Special Releases and Enhanced Visitor Experience

HEALDSBURG, Calif., Feb. 3, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Merriam Vineyards, a pioneering force in Russian River Valley’s diverse winegrowing landscape, announces the commencement of its 25th anniversary celebration. Founded in 2000 by Peter and Diana Merriam, the winery has evolved from its initial 12-acre purchase into a distinguished estate encompassing three distinct vineyard properties, each expressing the unique terroir of the Russian River Valley AVA.

“When we acquired Windacre Vineyard in 2000, we envisioned creating wines that would honor both the Old-World traditions we loved, and the unique character of the Russian River Valley AVA” reflects Peter Merriam. “Twenty-five years later, that vision has been realized, encompassing not just exceptional wines but a deep commitment to environmental stewardship and an enhanced visitor experience. It has been a great way to walk the walk of appreciating fine wine, by owning and managing very special vineyards.”

The anniversary year will feature special commemorative releases, including a limited-edition sparkling Blanc de Noirs, alongside a series of celebratory events throughout 2025. These offerings will showcase the winery’s evolution from its origins as a Bordeaux-focused producer, uncommon at the founding, to its current diverse portfolio spanning both Bordeaux and Burgundian varieties.

The milestone coincides with significant achievements in sustainable practices across the estate. The winery recently completed its organic certification process through CCOF, building upon the organic certification of its Los Amigos estate property. The Windacre and Eastside properties maintain rigorous sustainable certifications through CCSW and Sonoma Sustainable programs, with Eastside Estate additionally achieving Fish Friendly Farming certification in 2024.

The anniversary celebration follows the 2023 transformation of the winery’s landscape, designed in partnership with Munden Fry Landscape Associates (MFLA). This reimagining created an array of outdoor tasting environments that bring visitors closer to the vineyards and highlight the estate’s commitment to environmental stewardship. Features include antique olive trees, garden rooms under shade trees, and a distinctive water wall feature that complements the natural surroundings. Co-proprietor Diana Merriam hails from Greek heritage, and the property’s design and aesthetic represent the elegant ease of the Mediterranean lifestyle.

Estate Manager Evan Merriam, representing the next generation of family leadership, emphasizes the forward-looking nature of the anniversary: “While we’re celebrating our past achievements, we’re equally focused on the future. Our recent initiatives in organic farming, watershed protection, and enhanced visitor experiences set the stage for our next quarter century.”

Co-proprietor Peter Merriam adds, “When Diana and I first visited Sonoma County decades ago, we knew that a dream could be realized. I was selling fine European wine to discerning clients in New England and having grown up farming organically with my father in Maine, I wanted to merge two passions, fine wine and organic farming, and we’ve achieved that at Merriam Vineyards. Now as we look forward to our next goals, we want to reflect on the achievements, my family and team have accomplished.”

The winery will announce specific anniversary events and releases throughout the year. For more information about Merriam Vineyards’ 25th anniversary celebration, visit www.merriamvineyards.com or follow on Instagram @merriamvineyards.

The couple expanded its estate into Burgundian varieties with the acquisition of its Los Amigos property in 2009 and in 2022, purchased the hillside Eastside Estate, with a focus on core col-climate Pinot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The winery’s rigorous, decades-long commitment to sustainable viticulture and production resulted in the prestigious CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers) certification for its Los Amigos estate (2012) and winery (2023), as well as CCSW (Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing) certification for its Windacre property and Sonoma Sustainable for its Eastside Estate. Son Evan Merriam represents the Merriam’s next generation as estate manager.

Old Vine Registry Passes 4,000 entries: Vineyards planted in 1990 now eligible for inclusion

Wine growers are encouraged to submit their vineyards to the global crowd-sourced database that continues to grow and thrive

LONDON, England, Jan. 27, 2025 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Old Vine Registry, the world’s first and most authoritative database of old vine vineyards marked the new year having accumulated more than 4,000 entries from 39 countries, making steady progress to a goal of registering 10,000 vineyards by 2027.

Old Vine Registry home page
Image caption: Old Vine Registry home page.

With the changing of the year, vineyards planted in 1990 are now 35 years old and are eligible for inclusion in the registry. Producers are encouraged to submit their vineyards at https://www.oldvineregistry.org/.

The OIV’s recently passed Resolution OIV-VITI 703-2024 “OIV definition and recommendations about old grapevines and old vineyards in the vitivinicultural sector” made the explicit recommendation to all wine regions around the world to “promote and encourage the cataloguing of old vineyards and old grapevines.”

The Old Vine Registry was conceived expressly for that purpose, with the idea that in order to study, preserve, or support old vines around the world, you first need to know where they all are. The registry launched in June of 2023 with 2183 entries and has grown steadily over the last year and a half.

“The recent OIV Resolution really validated what we’re doing,” says wine writer Alder Yarrow, who serves as the day-to-day manager of the registry. “I hope it will encourage both individual producers and whole regions to publish information about their old vines.”

The Old Vine Registry is also seeking both volunteers willing to research old vineyards, as well as financial donors willing to support the non-profit project. Interested parties should e-mail oldvineregistry@gmail.com.

About The Old Vine Registry:

The Old Vine Registry is the world’s first and largest database cataloguing vineyards aged more than 35 years of age around the world. The registry aims to be a resource for the wine industry, academia, and consumers to discover and learn about old vineyards, as well as a conduit for the sale of wines made from these vineyards. Originally started by Jancis Robinson, the Registry launched as a crowd-sourced, public resource on the web in June of 2024, funded by a donation from Jackson Family Wines and managed by Alder Yarrow of Vinography.Com. The site is owned by The Old Vine Conference, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to building a credible category for old vine wines and a community that sustains and communicates its value.
