NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- NotaryCam™, the pioneering leader in online notarization and original provider of mortgage eClosing solutions, announced today announced it has been named to the HousingWire Tech100 Real Estate list. This marks the third consecutive year NotaryCam has been recognized by HousingWire for its efforts in delivering remote online notarization (RON) technology to the housing industry.

Specifically, HousingWire highlighted NotaryCam's accomplishments in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the development of a remote ink notarization (RIN) product to accommodate the temporary authorizations from a handful of states for this process. The company also made several notable achievements throughout last year, including

On-boarding approximately 15,000 users per month, for a total of 350,000 total users;

* Managing a 10x increase in RON demand;

* Increasing revenue by 100% over Q1 and Q2 2020; and

* Performing more than 1,000 real estate closings in September 2020 to achieve a new monthly company record and a 1,900% year over year increase.

"While the circumstances were far from ideal, the events of 2020 opened this industry's eyes to the limitations of today's closing process," said NotaryCam Founder and CEO Rick Triola. "NotaryCam has been committed to the digital transformation of the mortgage/ real estate transaction since its inception, and we are honored that HousingWire has once again chosen to recognize our efforts in this regard by including us on the Tech100 list."

According to the publication, "The Tech100 program provides housing professionals with a list of the most innovative and impactful companies that can be leveraged to identify partners and solutions to the problems that mortgage lenders and real estate professionals face everyday...For the second year in a row, the Tech100 program was divided into the HW Tech100 Mortgage and the HW Tech100 Real Estate to highlight the innovation and achievements of organizations within both sectors."

"After the uncertainty and unpredictability of last year, we expected a greater adoption of technology. However, these 100 real estate and mortgage companies took digital disruption to a whole new level and propelled a complete digital revolution, leaving a digital legacy that will impact borrowers, clients and companies for years to come," said Brena Nath, HousingWire's HW+ Managing Editor. "Knowing what these companies were able to navigate and overcome, we're excited to announce this year's list of the most innovative technology companies serving the mortgage and real estate industries."

Twenty-Nine States Proclaim March SUDC Awareness Month for Unexplained Childhood Deaths

ROSELAND, N.J. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) Foundation thanks Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming for making statewide proclamations declaring March 2021 as SUDC Awareness Month. The SUDC Foundation also applauds the California State Legislature for recognizing SUDC Awareness Month in House Resolution 24.

These are the first states to join a nationwide effort led by the SUDC Foundation to raise awareness of one of the most under-recognized medical tragedies of our time, marking the beginning of a month-long campaign all over the world.

Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) is a category of death in children over the age of 1 year which remains unexplained after a thorough investigation, including an autopsy. Most often, a seemingly healthy child goes to sleep and never wakes up. Approximately 400 children are lost to SUDC in the United States every year.

"As we enter another March, we are energized to have another successful month of raising SUDC awareness," said Laura Gould Crandall, President and Co-founder of the SUDC Foundation. "Awareness is crucial for funding critical research and supporting those affected by sudden unexpected or unexplained death in childhood. SUDC is the fifth leading category of death in children ages 1 to 4, yet SUDC receives no targeted public funding. The SUDC Foundation provides all services at no cost to bereaved families. Awareness helps families find us when they need us most and awareness launches us toward a world free of SUDC."

"Throughout March, we will continue to focus efforts around increasing awareness within the medical community as well," added Dr. Erin Bowen, SUDC Foundation Vice President and pediatrician. "Despite the fact that SUDC affects approximately 400 children annually, many physicians and medical professionals are unaware of it. Currently the understanding of SUDC eludes the medical community. Increased awareness can lead to further research initiatives to help uncover causes and risk factors for these deaths, with the ultimate goal of preventing them, leading to a future free of SUDC. As we work toward a deeper understanding of SUDC, we can ensure that families are adequately supported when these tragedies occur.

"If even one new family is connected to the SUDC Foundation as a result of our community's awareness efforts, then we can consider this month a success. Many bereaved parents will tell you their biggest fear is their child will be forgotten. SUDC Awareness Month gives us an opportunity to share the stories of these families, to honor the children affected and to say their names. SUDC awareness gives families a voice."

The SUDC Foundation will once again mark SUDC Awareness Month by hosting weekly awareness activities for all supporters to participate. To learn more, please visit: https://sudc.org/get-involved/sudc-awareness-month.

The SUDC Foundation is advocating for SUDC Awareness Month proclamations in all 50 U.S. states this March. In 2020, 41 participated. This nationwide effort began in 2016, inspired by Drew Joseph Boswell and the Boswell family. The Boswell family successfully advocated for the first statewide proclamation declaring March 2015 as SUDC Awareness Month in the State of Louisiana.

To see a list of previous efforts as well as additional states who have joined, please visit: https://sudc.org/get-involved/legislative-advocacy/sudc-awareness-proclamations.

About the SUDC Foundation:

The SUDC Foundation's mission is to promote awareness, advocate for research and support those affected by SUDC. The SUDC Foundation provides all services at no cost to families.

Carbon Monoxide Super-Meter for Inspectors and Scuba

LOS ANGELES, Calif., /ScoopCloud/ -- Forensics Detectors, a gas detection expert company residing in Los Angeles, California, has introduced its highly sensitive 0.1ppm carbon monoxide "super-meter," an innovation that has been designed to help users prevent low-level carbon monoxide poisoning and detect very small carbon monoxide leaks.

The Carbon Monoxide super-meter has been specifically designed to measure the smallest amount of carbon monoxide, where other carbon monoxide detectors and meters would simply not have the lower-level detection sensitivity. The carbon monoxide super-meter was designed for Scuba Divers, HVAC Inspectors and Air Quality Inspectors using superior sensing technology made with nanotechnology graphene electrochemical sensor technology to ensure maximum sensitivity down to 0.1ppm.

An important application for low-level carbon monoxide is heater and furnace inspection. Heater exchangers are found in all furnaces in homes and businesses. Most furnaces are gas burning and produce carbon monoxide. The carbon monoxide produced in a furnace is designed so that it is contained within the walls of its heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is the metal wall or tubing that is heated up when the burners are ignited. Carbon monoxide is released in the home when a heat exchanger forms small cracks or pin-holes due to thermal stress and corrosion.

The exhaust of the heater's combustion can enter the heated air stream and then accumulate in the living areas. Carbon Monoxide can also enter into vehicle cabins due to exhaust leaks, manifold cracks or poor vehicle cabin, trunk or panel seals. Over time, these leaks typically increase that may quickly lead to dangerous levels of carbon monoxide accumulation.

Another major problem is found with scuba diving. Carbon monoxide can enter a diver's air cylinder if the air compressor intake valve is placed too close to the engine exhaust or if the lubricating oil in a malfunctioning compressor becomes hot enough to partially combust, producing carbon monoxide that then resides in the diver gas bottle. If inhaled during diving, symptoms include nausea, headache, weakness, clumsiness, and confusion. Carbon monoxide affects are amplified as a diver's depth is increased. For example, a value of 5 ppm would have roughly the same effect as 25 ppm at the surface due to depth increasing the partial pressure of the inhaled carbon monoxide. Therefore, a small amount of carbon monoxide in a diver's cylinder can be amplified multiple times at depth, and as such, be extremely dangerous.

With these challenges in mind, Forensics Detectors created the carbon monoxide "super-meter" that detects carbon monoxide with 0.1ppm resolution. The super-meter is small, battery-powered and has a loud 85dB alarm that will buzz, vibrate and flash LEDs when the CO level has exceeded the adjustable alarm threshold. For real-life robustness and operation, the super-meter is also waterproof and passes a 20 foot shock drop test.

"Typical home wall mounted carbon monoxide detectors are made to alarm between 60 to 240 minutes when carbon monoxide exceeds 70ppm. This is simply too high for homeowners to be warned when their heat exchange fails. Other CO meters have a lower detection range of about 1, 2 or 3 ppm," says Dr. Koz, Chief Engineer at Forensics Detectors. "We wanted to give scuba divers, vehicle drivers, home occupants and HVAC technicians a new tool to detect carbon monoxide accumulation as soon and as low as possible, down to 0.1ppm with a real-time digital display that can handle the everyday knocks and rough handling while on the go. This is a game changing product at an affordable price point."

About Forensics Detectors

Forensics Detectors was established in 2017 by Dr. Koz to offer consumers affordable and innovative gas detectors, meters and analyzers. Dr. Koz is a world-renown expert in toxic gas detection and continues to be inspired to develop innovative products for public health and environmental well-being. The company is located in California on the lovely Palos Verdes Peninsula where the company designs, develops, manufactures and sources products that meet Dr. Koz's strict technical requirements. GridBright, Inc. launches GRIDEON Secure Grid Collaboration (SGC) As A Service to Help Utilities Share Sensitive Data Needed to Keep the Lights On

ALAMO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Essential to managing today's and the future electric grid is data-its movement and security. GRIDEON developed by GridBright (gridbright.com) under an award from the US Department of Energy (DOE) Advanced Research Project Agency (ARPA-E) addresses this need.

It was created in collaboration with a team of cybersecurity and utility industry experts from BetterGrids Foundation (Bettergrids.org), Midcontinent Independent System Operator (misoenergy.org), and Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative (mcecoop.com). Over 40 organizations across the grid value chain have contributed to defining the requirements for GRIDEON.

"MCEC needed to share critical data with a strategic partner. Internet and email were not sufficiently secure. For years the method was walking a USB key to the partner for exchange. GRIDEON is a better way," says Keith Sturkie, VP of IT at MCEC. "GRIDEON improved our security posture and lowered our costs."

GRIDEON is an open-source-based suite of easy-to-use cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) applications, technologies, enablement and support services, and standards that provide the full set of capabilities required to instantiate any type of secure grid data exchange.

GRIDEON efficiently ensures secure and compliant grid data exchange among all-electric ecosystem participants encompassing the entire electric value chain from generation to consumers (prosumers) spanning business and real-time operations.

It accommodates the creation of multiple types of exchanges necessitated by the utility industry's grid data sharing applications such as collaboration, real-time system integration, publication-subscriber, one-to-many, among just a few.

Secure Grid Collaboration is the second service established on GRIDEON. The first is the BetterGrids Grid Model Repository that is presently used in 45 countries. BetterGrids.org is a free library of curated, non-sensitive grid models shared voluntarily by grid researchers. It includes synthetic and anonymized grid models and uses a rigorous curation process to ensure data quality. AI tools for semantic and natural language searching allow researchers to find their desired test data easily.

Secure Grid Collaboration extends the GRIDEON service reach. It establishes core grid data exchange standards that drive cost efficiency and management efficacy for foundational exchange artifacts such as nondisclosure agreements (NDA) between counterparties. It provides the foundation for future process management and real time services in emergency management and DER integration and beyond.

It also implements the enabling processes for secure grid data exchanges such as participant registration and advanced encryption key services that support exchange operations, security, and compliance.

Girding these key elements is a support organization providing 24 x 7 help, operations, and technical support functions required by the operational nature of many of the exchanges a typical utility will implement.

GridBright Inc. - https://www.gridbright.com/ - specializes in secure grid integration. Its services and solutions span the full electric value chain, safely interconnecting renewable and distributed energy resources to the grid, implementing and integrating modern computer applications for grid operations and planning, and providing solutions for the secure exchange of grid data among grid value chain participants.

Rise in Workplace Bullying Parallels Trump Term – Remote Work Fertile Ground for Abuse

CLARKSTON, Wash. /ScoopCloud/ -- Respondents in the new national scientific poll by the Workplace Bullying Institute (WBI) reported a rise in prevalence to 30% of adult Americans who directly experienced "repeated mistreatment: abusive conduct that is threatening, intimidating, humiliating, work sabotage or verbal abuse." This is the WBI definition of workplace bullying.

The prior WBI survey bullying rate was 19% in Feb. 2017. After exactly four years, in Feb. 2021, the rate had risen 57%.

By coincidence, the 2017 and 2021 WBI U.S. Workplace Bullying Surveys bracketed the Trump term. The comparison "gives us an estimate of the effect of his bellicose, bullying presidency on society and the American workplace," says Gary Namie, PhD, WBI Director and social psychologist. "Misconduct at the top had consequences."

Remote work is touted as the new way we work. However, interpersonal bullying is easier from a distance. Employed remote workers reported more bullying (43%) than the national respondent sample (30%). Abuse occurs primarily in virtual meetings.

When the number of witnesses to bullying are added to those bullied, 49% of Americans are affected. That translates to 79.3 million employed Americans touched by bullying -- directly and indirectly. Also, when American employers are told about the bullying, survey respondents faulted them for ineffective reactions (in 60% of cases) -- encouragement, denial, rationalization, defense of abuse, and discounting.

"Our workplaces simply are not working for people," says a concerned Teresa A. Daniel, JD, PhD, and Dean/Professor of Human Resource Leadership at Sullivan University. "It is unconscionable that nearly half of all American employees are miserable at work due to abusive bosses and toxic cultures."

David C. Yamada, J.D., Professor of Law at Suffolk University is author of anti-bullying legislation introduced in 30 states, the Healthy Workplace Bill. WBI survey respondents supported (90%) a new law to extend employee protections beyond existing nondiscrimination laws. Yamada says his bill "protects all workers from targeted, health-impairing bullying on the job."

Kids Read Now Mails Books to Students – Eliminates Learning Loss: Closing The Opportunity Gap for California Students

VISTA, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Kids Read Now is excited to partner with Guajome Park Academy to mail books directly to their students' homes over the summer. Guajome Park Academy is the first school district in California to partner with Kids Read Now to eliminate learning loss and close the opportunity gap for their students. The number of students coast-to-coast in the Kids Read Now program continues to grow with almost 400,000 books being mailed to students in 2020 alone!

Most students will experience reading skill loss over a typical summer break from school. Creating home libraries is key to preventing a steep learning slide due to summer break and recent extended school closures. "Educators love that the KRN program has been proven to eradicate the typical summer slide and help kids gain up to 2.5 months of learning over the summer," said Leib Lurie, CEO of Kids Read Now.

The Kids Read Now K-3 summer reading program mails eight new books to students and includes exciting multicultural, fiction, and nonfiction titles loved by children. Mailing books builds ongoing enthusiasm but does not require in-home technology. Each book includes guided discussion questions to help improve reading skills and increase family engagement. The ninth book of beautifully illustrated creative writing prompts concludes the program so children can write their own stories. Best of all, kids keep their new books!

Kids Read Now is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the singular mission to eliminate learning loss for all K-3 students.

Dr. Rodney Kryzhanovskiy Joins the Spodak Dental Group Team

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- Dr. Rodney Kryzhanovskiy, a general dentist with a passion for transforming lives, joins the admired team of general and specialty dentists at the Spodak Dental Group. He strives to relate to each patient and understand their needs, desires and concerns, and to help them achieve optimal dental health that aligns with their lifestyle.

"Dr. Rodney is a wonderful addition to our team and we are excited to have him provide our family of patients with unparalleled dental care," said Dr. Craig Spodak, general dentist at Spodak Dental Group. "His desire to connect with his patients and help them achieve their smile goals aligns with our desire to elevate the dental experience and provide a truly memorable visit. We look forward to a great future together."

For Dr. Rodney, the path to becoming a dentist wasn't clear or easy. He was born in Russia and moved to the States with his family when he was 3 years old. They lived in New York until he was 15 years old, and moved to many of the boroughs due to his father looking for work. As an immigrant family, dentistry was considered a luxury and he did not have any exposure to it as a child. However, the story changed when he and his family moved to Florida where he completed high school.

During his undergrad, he was working several jobs, one of which was in a restaurant as a server. One of his regular patrons was a dentist and Dr. Rodney saw how kind he was, and how he considered dentistry a fulfilling career. So, he asked if he could work for free in his dental office, and within two weeks he had a job as an assistant and a passion for the profession.

"I saw how many lives he touched and how much he affected the community, and it grounded my decision to go into dental school," said Dr. Rodney. "My path in dentistry made me value the relationships you build and how much someone's life can be transformed through the power of a smile."

Dr. Rodney earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla. before pursuing a dental career at LECOM School of Dental Medicine in Bradenton, Fla. where he received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine. He provides patients with a wide range of services, including crowns and bridges, full and partial dentures, implant restorations, composite restorations, extractions, periodontal diagnosis, and Invisalign.

He is a member of the Member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Florida Dental Association, and the Virginia Dental Association. He is also fluent in Russian.

In his spare time, he and his wife Meghan, daughter Madeline, and dog Liana enjoy spending time hiking, kayaking, biking, exploring museums, relaxing at the beach and trying new foods.

The Spodak Dental Group, a 2017 Inc. 5000 honoree, has evolved to become South Florida's premier, comprehensive dental facility, and comprises a world-class association of dental professionals poised to provide full-service dental care second-to-none in both scope and skill. The Spodak Dental Group team includes General and Restorative Dentists, Endodontists, Periodontists, Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Master Ceramic Artists and Anesthesiologists, as well as one of the nation's only in-office dental labs.

Spodak Dental Group is located at 3911 W. Atlantic Ave. Call or text (561) 303-2413 or visit https://www.SpodakDental.com/ for more information or to schedule a virtual or in-office appointment.

TimeoutIQ App Allows Parents to Remotely Manage Kids’ Screen Time and Helps them Learn Something Too

TORONTO, Ontario /ScoopCloud/ -- Kids' screen time has soared during the pandemic, yet parents are reluctant to restrict it because it's their primary way of learning, socializing and playing. TimeoutIQ has the solution. It helps parents to subtly manage screen time, and challenges kids with educational content at their grade level while playing games, watching videos or engrossed in social media.

And, a child's health and development are critical in a digital world. In fact, the Canadian Paediatric Society provides recommendations to parents that include:

* Be present and engaged when screens are used and, whenever possible, co-view with children.

* Be aware of content and prioritize educational, age-appropriate and interactive programming.

* Use parenting strategies that teach self-regulation, calming and limit-setting.

TimeoutIQ checks all the boxes.

"It's kind of like a child supervisor and personal tutor all in one," Shawn Desouza, app developer, says.

The app is designed to monitor kids in kindergarten through eighth grade and has a new content library based on the Ontario Elementary School Curriculum; it was compiled by teachers and education coaches.

"The app has questions and challenges meant to make the child stop and think. The benefit of doing this is to distract and interrupt the child's recreational screen time - stuff like games, videos, social media - and acts as a refresher to what they're studying at school," Desouza, says.

It helps to keep their minds sharp as the app uses interactive STEM education-based gamification challenges.

And while parents may think they know what their child is doing, some research proves otherwise. An article published in the July issue of "Pediatrics," reports that tracking software revealed kids were accessing tons of apps classified for adults - like horror apps with scary characters, first-person shooter games and other media - and parents didn't know it.

The TimeoutIQ app also has an automated scheduler which allows parents to monitor their children every day between specific hours (e.g., 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.). There's a free version and two premium paid versions.

"We've had more than 5,000 installs since launching in August 2020, with a rising number of paid subscribers," Desouza says.

Cincinnati Company Develops Ground-Breaking Steam Technology for Sanitizing Amid Pandemic

CINCINNATI, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- Bayzi Corporation has developed steam technology needed to quickly fight the spread of viruses like COVID-19 as well as bacteria, fungi, bed bugs and biofilms. They manufacture antimicrobial steam devices that will very quickly eliminate microbes, bugs and also provide a quick way to clean dust and grease. The machines use just water and no chemicals.

The patented line of antimicrobial steam cleaners called SaniZap® safely sanitize almost any surface, leaving no residue, moisture or harmful chemicals. The process is 600 times faster than chemical sanitization, making it ideal for following CDC guidelines that call for frequent sanitization.

"There was so much interest in portable high temperature steam devices due to the pandemic that our team pulled these products from the backburner and has been working hard to make this technology and the products available quickly," said Anu Vissa, CEO of Bayzi.

The portable equipment is available in different models to accommodate a range of facilities and price points. SaniZap-1 and SaniZap-Mini are handheld devices well suited for small spaces and small businesses. The SaniZap-4 is a versatile multipurpose cleaning workhorse on wheels with a lot more power. It can be used at lower steam temperatures with soap or detergent to quickly clean visible dirt and grime and can also be used at higher steam temperatures for anti-microbial sanitizing.

The protypes have been demonstrated in schools, hospitals, and restaurants.

* Chemicals generally reduce or eliminate specific microbes. Steam covers a broad range.

* No fumes, odors, sticky residues, or accumulating residues and toxicity.

* 'No-Contact' method, is self-drying and requires no wiping, reducing waste.

* Reduces cross contamination.

* Allows Increase frequency of sanitizing as recommended by CDC, especially of critical areas.

* Benefits employees, staff and patients/clients, reducing their exposure to chemicals.

* Overall better infection control outcomes for healthcare facilities.

* Green method - safe for the environment.

Mold Inspection Sciences Texas Warns Consumers Against Unlicensed Remediation Efforts Amid Disaster Cleanup

AUSTIN, Texas /ScoopCloud/ -- On February 12, 2021, Texas Governor Abbott issued a disaster declaration following the severe winter storm that caused damage statewide. Mold Inspection Sciences Texas recommends that consumers pay close attention to this announcement as it allows out-of-state and unlicensed mold assessment and remediation contractors to obtain temporary registration and to perform mold remediation and material removal on storm-damaged properties.

"Repairs and cleanup have just begun," says Mold Inspection Sciences Texas Chief Operating Officer Mike Marshall. "Texans need to be aware that you don't want just anyone addressing a potential mold issue. You must seek out someone who is licensed and qualified.

"We've seen this happen before. Six, eight, twelve months down the road, state-licensed mold assessors and remediators come back to find 'fixed' properties worse off than they were from the initial damage. Our team specifically is still addressing the same type of issues from Hurricane Harvey in 2017!"

To help keep consumers safe, Mold Inspection Sciences Texas recommends that consumers:

* Start drying out their properties as soon as possible and get in touch with qualified water mitigation professionals if needed.

* If mold is suspected, find a licensed assessment company. Consumers who do not use licensed mold professionals will not be able to receive a protocol for next steps to solve a mold issue. Nor will they be able to obtain a Certificate of Mold Damage Remediation proving their property has been deemed safe.

* Utilize the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation to confirm the license status of potential contractors by visiting https://www.tdlr.texas.gov/licensesearch/.

"Mold and water damage are issues Texans continue to face, given our state's recent history with devastation from Mother Nature," Marshall adds, "and people are being taken advantage of."

About Mold Inspection Sciences Texas:

Mold Inspection Sciences Texas - http://www.moldinspectiontexas.com/ - was founded in 2007 by President and CEO Michael Bains with one simple goal in mind: to provide affordable, professional, and high-quality mold inspection and testing services to people across Texas suffering from the nuisance of mold. Over the past 14 years, MISTX has successfully performed and solved thousands of investigations, providing safer and healthier conditions for a wide variety of clients to thrive in.

Senate Reintroduces Legislation to Federally Invest in Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) Program

SILVER SPRING, Md. /ScoopCloud/ -- Yesterday, the Senate reintroduced the Mothers and Offspring Mortality and Morbidity Awareness (MOMMA) Act, critical legislation that seeks to reduce the disparate maternal and infant morbidity and mortality rates, especially among Black and Brown birthing people and infants. The American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) strongly supports the MOMMA Act.

Spearheaded by Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), the MOMMA Act would, among other initiatives, establish grant opportunities for entities with proven approaches to improving our nation's mortality rate by offering better maternal and postpartum health care.

Specifically, the MOMMA Act would invest federal funding in the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) program, a national partnership of organizations, including ACNM, with goals improving the culture of care to eliminate preventable maternal mortality and severe morbidity across the care continuum.

The American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) strongly supports the MOMMA Act and applauds Senators Durbin and Duckworth for their leadership and commitment to improving the culture of health for pregnant and postpartum people.

"All pregnant and birthing people and babies should be served by a maternity care system that delivers safe, equitable, ethical, and patient-centered care, the hallmarks of midwifery," stated ACNM President, Cathy Collins-Fulea, DNP, CNM, FACNM. "Midwives stand ready to work with policymakers and stakeholders to implement evidence-based solutions, including reducing primary cesarean sections and increasing access to midwives and midwifery-led care models, to help improve maternal health outcomes for all people and communities."

Every year across the United States, of the 4,000,000 people who give birth, about 700 suffer fatal complications during pregnancy, while giving birth, or during the postpartum period, and 70,000 suffer near-fatal, partum-related complications. These statistics disproportionately impact Black and Brown pregnant and birthing people. Through the implementation of a comprehensive set of policies to improve data collection, dissemination of information on effective interventions, and expansion of access to health care and social services for postpartum people, the MOMMA Act is another piece of critical legislation that if realized, can help address escalating rates of maternal mortality and morbidity disproportionately impacting these communities.

Contact Amy Kohl (akohl@acnm.org) ACNM Director, Advocacy & Government Affairs, for more information on the Mothers and Offspring Mortality and Morbidity Awareness (MOMMA) Act.

About ACNM

With over 6,500 members, ACNM is the professional association that represents certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) and certified midwives (CMs) in the United States. ACNM promotes excellence in midwifery education, clinical practice, and research. With roots dating to 1929, our members are primary care providers for women throughout the lifespan, with a special emphasis on pregnancy, childbirth, and gynecologic and reproductive health. ACNM provides research, administers, and promotes continuing education programs, establishes education and clinical practice standards, and creates liaisons with state and federal agencies and members of Congress to increase the visibility and recognition of midwifery care.

Personal Injury Attorney Rachel Anthony Has Joined LeMaster & Ahmed PLLC Law Firm

THE WOODLANDS, Texas /ScoopCloud/ -- LeMaster & Ahmed PLLC has announced that Rachel Anthony, a personal injury attorney, has recently joined their Houston area office of LeMaster & Ahmed PLLC. The law firm focuses on personal injury cases and has offices in The Woodlands, Texas and Plano, Texas. Ms. Anthony's legal background includes catastrophic personal injury cases and commercial litigation. She is a 2007 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Texas Tech School of Law and a Briefing Attorney for the Honorable Jeffrey V. Brown during his tenure as a Justice at the 14th Court of Appeals in Houston, Texas.

"I am often asked 'What is a personal injury lawyer and how can one help me?' by people who have been injured but have no legal representation," states Ms. Anthony, "and that is a perfectly legitimate question. Our firm offers a free consultation to personal injury victims and I discuss their legal rights and their options for the future. Initially, many injured people are without legal counsel and are not happy with the personal injury settlement offer from an insurance company's attorney or adjuster. Many injured people don't know where to turn and are dismayed and overwhelmed by the insurance claims handling process. This is a critical point in time for the injured party - they need sound legal advice before signing any documents that would settle a personal injury lawsuit. They could easily make the mistake of agreeing to a compensation amount that is far less than what they deserve under the law."

Personal injury attorneys represent people who have been injured by the negligent, reckless, or careless acts of another individual or company. The injury can be physical, emotional, economic, and psychological. Pain and suffering is an important consideration that can increase compensation. There are other personal injury claim categories that are often compensated such as the cost of medical bills, the cost of physical therapy, and loss of income. The key is to obtain good legal advice from an attorney with experience in various personal injury cases. The attorneys and adjusters representing the negligent individual, the insurance company, or other liable company are seasoned experts and have considerable experience with personal injury negotiation tactics. Individuals who - without legal representation - attempt to negotiate with these experienced lawyers and adjusters often find themselves at a significant disadvantage.

"I joined the LeMaster & Ahmed PLLC law firm because of their experience in handling personal injury claims, whether they be through settlement or litigation, and the flexibility of working with a boutique legal team. Perhaps the most common mistake I have seen in this area of law is when an injured person agrees to a recorded conversation with an aggressive insurance company's attorney or adjuster. Yes, they are gathering information which is fine. But the attorney or adjuster is also very keen on seeing the injured person contradict himself or herself - a technique that could substantially reduce the final injury benefits and affect how the personal injury settlements are paid out. In such a scenario, the injured party should always be accompanied by his or her attorney," commented Ms. Anthony.

The lawyers of LeMaster & Ahmed PLLC, including Ms. Anthony, have extensive backgrounds negotiating both for and against insurance companies related to personal injury claims. All lawyers at the firm have spent nearly 40 years combined working directly for the insurers before joining LeMaster & Ahmed PLLC and focusing their practices on representing personal injury victims.

The law firm takes a team approach to each personal injury case in an effort to achieve maximum recovery for their clients. They treat their clients like family and they focus on making their clients whole after their injury.

LeMaster & Ahmed PLLC, Attorneys at Law, encourages anyone who has been injured to fight back. They deserve a fair and equitable settlement for their injuries, their pain and suffering, their physical rehabilitation, their loss of income, and the impact their injuries will have for the rest of their lives. Kids Read Now celebrates partnerships with hometown heroes, delivering books to Ohio students

DAYTON, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- Kids Read Now has partnered with school districts across Ohio, including Ansonia Local Schools, Troy City Schools, Mapleton Local School District, Greenville City Schools, and Northridge Local Schools, to mail books directly to their students' homes over the summer. The number of students in the Kids Read Now program continues to grow with almost 400,000 books being mailed to students in 2020 alone!

Most students will experience reading skill loss over a typical summer break from school. Creating home libraries is key to preventing a steep learning slide due to summer break and recent extended school closures. "Whether it's the summer slide or the COVID slide, the KRN in-home reading programs are eliminating learning loss and are helping kids gain up to 2.5 months of learning over the summer," said Leib Lurie, CEO of Kids Read Now.

"The kids love getting the books throughout the summer and come in the following school year talking about all the awesome books that they got. I can tell it definitely encourages the kids to read," said Taylor B., Classroom Teacher, Troy City Schools.

"Providing students with high quality texts to read during the summer is absolutely crucial. An added bonus is that students get 'real' mail!" said Jill H. B., Curriculum Director, Black River Local School District.

Monument to an African American Patriot Drummer? You Bet!

BEAUFORT, S.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- According to the Georgia American Revolution Preservation Alliance, if one battlefield archaeologist had his way, the first monument placed on the newly preserved Battle of Beaufort, SC site would not be to the two signers of the Declaration of Independence who also fought there. It would be an almost forgotten private. Not that Daniel Battle feels more than one monument is well deserved at one of South Carolina's newest sites.

By the end of 1778, most of the serious fighting of the War for American Independence had been predominantly in the northern half of the new United States. That was about to change as British Forces surged a new invasion into the southern states. During the British Southern Winter Campaign 1778-79, Georgia was overrun from both land and sea with forces invading from Florida and Sandy Hook, NJ. This appeared to it be the knock-out punch that might just end the American Rebellion. It was a chaotic moment when citizens and militia volunteers throughout the South were weighing their options and loyalties.

"If the King's Forces had strategized a forgiveness campaign as some had planned, rather than a war against the citizenry, the outcome of the war may have been much different," Battle claims. Still, a spark of hope in the American cause was desperately needed at this time. Southerners got that from an unlikely place at Beaufort, SC.

"The British had barely secured Savannah before the wharves had become backed up by wagon loads of loot and plunder being sent back out of port to destinations unknown. British officers were freely enriching themselves shipping off captured slaves and plantation commodities," Battle explained.

A British expeditionary naval force soon set off with the same designs for the Lowcountry of South Carolina. That navy flotilla left a trail of destruction, marked by plumes of burning residences, as it went up the sea islands toward Beaufort. After landing near town, however, they found an angry American force under the fiery General William Moultrie awaiting them. On February 3, 1779, British Regulars attempted to march into the town but were soundly repulsed. They were beaten by an ethnically diverse American militia. "This little victory helped bolster volunteers to the American Cause at a pivotal time when support was desperately needed for what was coming for South Carolina. The American Cause was on razor thin margins," Battle explained.

The engagement at Beaufort was the first true land battle of the war in South Carolina and the first victory for the Americans since the southern invasion. One British officer would later recount, with a sneer, the presence of several African Americans within the American ranks. One of these individuals, a free man of color from one of the surrounding islands, was serving as a drummer in the 4th SC Artillery.

"Drummers were critically important in those days because we didn't have electronic communications like radios to give out battle orders. The beat of drums informed our fighting men of such things as keeping to their post or alerting to new orders during the fighting," Battle explains. This was the beginning of Beaufort's Jim Capers distinguishing career. Private Capers would serve in some of the bloodiest battles of the war all the way up to the surrender of British General Cornwallis' at Yorktown.

"He would have likely had the honor to play his drums as the British stacked their arms and this must have been an incredible experience for Capers," Battle states.

During the war, his name had become well-recognized throughout the Southern command according to pension applications. One soldier claimed: "While encamped at Jacksonborough near Charleston, I heard that the 'great Drummer Jim Capers' under (Francis 'Swamp Fox') Marion was wounded at the battle of the Eutaw Springs, South Carolina."

After the war, Capers applied for the first United States pension. Capers and his wife, who was listed as a slave, were denied benefits. Capers died without the United States ever honoring the debt for his sacrifice of service. A simple gravestone in Alabama reads, "Jim Capers a man of Color and resident in the County of Pike & State of Alabama."

"Capers was an unwavering American Patriot who deserves recognition. There is a wrong here that should be set symbolically right. Certainly, we cannot even begin to ponder what the dream of freedom must have meant to soldiers like him. Erecting a monument makes an important statement and helps set the record straight. It bridges a gap with those who have often felt little or no connection with this part of our American History," Battle states.

Pure Transplant Solutions Announces Collaboration with King’s College London to Support NHS Funded GAMECHANgER-1 Clinical Trial for HLA Sensitized Patients with End Stage Renal Disease

AUSTIN, Texas /ScoopCloud/ -- Pure Transplant Solutions, LLC (PTS), a collaboration driven biotechnology company focused on the development of human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-based diagnostics and therapeutics within the field of transplantation, is proud to announce that it has entered into a collaboration agreement with King's College London, a leading university providing world-class teaching and cutting-edge research, to support the Phase IIa GAMECHANgER-1 clinical trial.

The trial aims to determine whether adoptive transfer of regulatory T cells (Tregs) into HLA sensitised patients can suppress memory T and B cell responses against specific HLA antigens in order to extend the longevity of donor organs.

The collaborative research is being led by Dr. Anthony Dorling, Professor of Transplant Inflammation and Repair, and Honorary Consultant Nephrologist at the Centre for Nephrology, Urology, and Transplantation, and Dr. Rico Buchli, VP of Products and Services at PTS. The collaboration intends to investigate whether in vitro anti-HLA T & B cell responses in sensitized patients can be inhibited by an adoptive transfer of T regulatory cells. Under the Agreement, PTS will provide its proprietary soluble HLA (sHLA) molecules which will be used to trigger functional responses of patient cells in Fluorospot assays.

Furthermore, PTS will provide biotinylated sHLA for memory b-cell detection and characterization. Researchers hope that the results of the study will lead to a better understanding of immune tolerance, extend the duration of suppression of HLA-specific responses by Tregs and ultimately produce state-of-the-art immune therapeutics to control rejection.

"We feel that PTS has the fundamental ingredients needed to provide new sets of tools to those who care for transplant patients," Dr. Buchli stated. "Our proteins can solve a number of important challenges in DSA and B cell monitoring. With this collaboration, we are able to go beyond monitoring and help pave the way in generating immune therapeutics of the future."

"The group of highly sensitized dialysis patients that we'll be recruiting to GAMECHANgER-1 have difficulties getting a suitable kidney transplant and once transplanted suffer higher rates of rejection and complications associated with our current treatments for rejection," said Dr. Dorling. "This trial will determine whether patients' own regulatory T cells can be used to suppress immune memory responses against specific human leukocyte antigens (HLA), and if successful will pave the way for larger scale trials to determine if these regulatory cells can be used as therapy to prevent or minimise these problems in future. The HLA proteins provided by Pure Transplant Solutions are an essential tool used to tailor our immunemonitoring for individual patients, so I'm delighted to be partnering with the company to ensure a stable, long-term supply of these reagents. This trial offers a glimpse of how personalised medicine might help transform outcomes for this disadvantaged group of patients."

The Role of ‘Green Therapy’ in Improving Mental Health

LANCASTER, Pa. /ScoopCloud/ -- With mental health struggles surging globally, particularly in the US, Adventure Explorations has released a new white paper entitled "Improving Mental Health: The Power of Outdoor and Adventure." The piece explores the benefits outdoor activity has on mental health. Beyond exercise, as consistently acknowledged by scientists, it's the active exposure and connection to nature and the outside that is producing these exciting results.

Data shows that between 2019 and 2020, anxiety disorders increased 17.4% while depression increased 17.8%. In 2019, 19.2% of adults received mental health treatment. However, 30-50% of those who were prescribed medication as a result did not stick to their therapy treatment.

While fear of medication disrupts compliance-not unlike the realities of concerns surrounding the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines-it's often the lack of visibility of side effects that drives the fear. Green Therapy, however, creates benefits that are near immediate and noticed. Mental health professionals agree that movement outdoors, in nature, is key to a happier, heathier life. Being outdoors provides a simple and safe way to decompress with less cost and no side-effects and is ideal for people of all ages.

That's where Adventure Explorations, an outdoor adventure guiding company, located in Lancaster and Boiling Springs, PA, comes in. They use top notch-gear and expert guides to bring people into nature to create new skills and meaningful, fun experiences. Suitable for all ages and ability levels, including those with physical and mental challenges, the adventure company helps people to bridge the gap between self-discovery and its potential.

"What was startling throughout this investigation was the number of concurrent articles published by experts, and reported on by esteemed publications such as the Wall Street Journal," said Adventure Explorations co-owner Chris Paradysz. "But, beyond them, the recognition that these therapies are literally free opened up amazing possibilities for balanced therapeutic prescriptions. Imagine doctors writing a prescription for 200 minutes of outdoor therapy."
