C Diff Foundation Hosts 4th Annual Global C. diff. Awareness 2K Virtual Walks

This year's annual events will take place online and will be recorded at the Morris A. C. diff. infections are one of the leading healthcare-associated infections facing local communities worldwide. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a Clostridioides difficile infection (C. diff., C. difficile), (formally known as Clostridium difficile) "has become the most common microbial cause of healthcare-associated infections in U.S. hospitals and costs up to $4.8 billion each year in excess health care costs for acute care facilities alone."

Statistics provided by the CDC suggest that C. difficile cause nearly 500,000 infections in patients in the U.S. annually. In one study noted by the CDC, among infected patients, nearly 29,000 died within 30 days of being diagnosed, and more than half of those deaths (15,000) were directly attributable to a C. difficile infection.

ISQED’21 Accepts Papers for the 2021 Event

SAN JOSE, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Symposium on Quality Electronic Design (ISQED) today announced that it has started to accept papers for the 2021 event. The Home Builders Association of Greater Austin and The Reserve at Lake Travis to Hold Virtual ‘Parade of Homes’

AUSTIN, Texas /ScoopCloud/ -- In an effort to help contain the spread of Covid-19, The HBA of Greater Austin, McCombs Properties and the Parade builders made the decision to cancel live public tours of the Parade of Homes this year and hold virtual tours instead.

The previously scheduled dates to visit these homes have been cancelled, and all advance ticket purchases will be refunded. "The health and safety of the membership and of our community was paramount in us taking the tour virtual this year," said Joe Fowler, HBA Greater Austin Board President. "We feel confident that the virtual presentation we have put together will be just as exciting."

Beginning July 17, all five Parade homes will be available to tour virtually for free, complete with interviews with the builders, tips from the designers and the ability to source some of the most exciting new trends in home designs.

"Imagine getting a personal and highly detailed tour of these luxe homes from the team that planned, built and decorated them," said Harry Adams, Managing Partner McCombs Properties, developer of The Reserve at Lake Travis. "The films will be a fun and friendly curated tour guided by experts who will point out all the cool features, new home tech and fabulous finishes," he added.

At the end of the tours, the public will be able to cast their ballot for their favorite home.

Austin area Realtors will also still have a special opportunity to preview the homes with a sneak peek on July 16. "Many of our HBA members are Realtors and we are pleased to offer a special preview of the virtual tours to them and their clients in advance of the public release," remarked HBA CEO Taylor Jackson.

The Parade of Homes video tours will feature custom homes from Arbogast Homes, Dalainey Performance Homes, Legacy DCS Homes, Sterling Custom Homes as well as the developer's showcase home, The Cypress Club Treehouse.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the uncertainty of legal gatherings of more than 10 people, the organizers and brain trust of San Fermin in Nueva Orleans have opted for an online fiesta. On Saturday July 11, 2020 all are invited to join the team as they present a way to revel with the friends they normally see each year, but cannot due to the virus.

"In New York, I believe we have a deeper appreciation for the brave men and women who protect and serve because of 9/11 but also because we understand that in an area our size, the demands and pressures on them are much bigger than most other places," said Corrado. The sanitizing process takes about 10 minutes and is first-come first-served. Corrado said that if the event proves to be a success, then they will expand the event to multiple days in April and May.

African Youth Drug Prevention (AYDP) Project Presents Substance Abuse Impact Data in Washington State

Information presented will showcase how targeted youth are impacted by billions of advertising dollars and how youth of color disproportionately face negative consequences for their substance use, even though their consumption is often comparable or even lower than white youth.

Ted Rigoni’s Oxidized! Exhibition opens at the Progress Gallery March 7 – 29, 2020

The oxidized metals of the Mojave Desert Landscape - rusted cans, discarded bolts, 'gold mine' conveyor parts, spiraling culverts, and other metallic objects - seem annihilated by the gritty red rust of time. Yet these remnants have been born again as contemporary art photographs by Rigoni through selected light, edgy textures, and micro-details, to reveal the beautiful metals that supported desert pioneers as they pursued life, love, and riches in a hostile and unforgiving environment.

Abandonment is a common theme of America's West as places that once were, have become nonplaces, but at the same time places replete with nostalgic affections. Thus, Ted Rigoni titled his exhibit, Oxidized! to emphasize the rusty relationship we have with abandoned metals from our past - a distinct contrast with our shiny object culture of today. For a year plus, Ted explored the desert within the Mojave National Preserve, discovering metal artifacts that date back generations, each of them an Oxidized! (rusted) icon to the rugged miners, ranchers, railroaders, and itinerant explorers whose ghosts still linger in this land of creosote bushes, coyotes and sand.

A series of rusted bean cans cast a bronze, nostalgic glow, but no details to pinpoint a specific place or time. Grand scale photographs of small rusted bolts seem to vibrate with life on the Giclee prints and display as equals to images of gigantic metal culverts and sinusoidal railroad tracks. Ted's art connects the small with the large, the very old to the just old- all of it through the magic of an uncommon desert light.

"During my desert wilderness explorations, I often shoot images that reach out to me before I have reached out to them," Rigoni says. "When I return to my digital darkroom, I focus on creating images that explore the role art photography plays in our psychic understanding of the specific places that spawned these abandoned metals."

Ted describes his work as semi-abstract, with a deep topographical connection to the details which express an emotional response to the "Oxidized!" elements.

Ted points out, "I often stack focus 50 images of the same piece to capture the minute detail with exquisite sharpness because my visual vocabulary includes the finite rust and all its pigment varieties. I want to extend the visual experience beyond documenting the abstract light, patterns, and textures, which naturally appear. I am interested in how the unconscious act of abandoning these metals is born again in our consciousness as art."

Ted Rigoni resides with his family in Tustin, California, is a professional sports photographer, retired County Road Division Manager, and has been engaged in fine art photography for the last four years. In addition to creating art photography projects, Ted is an associate art photography instructor for National Park Photography Expeditions.

First female Brazilian pilot to race FlatOutFriday

She is the founder of #ElasPilotam (translates to #SheRides), a movement that prioritizes sorority and empowers women, who already are involved in this universe, to take leadership roles in their bikes and lives. During FlatOutFriday, she will also be the only South American woman to take part in the races in Milwaukee.

In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Bruna will race in place of professional pilot Melissa Paris, who, at the time, will be in Daytona, Florida. As the surprised from the invitation sets in, Bruna is wasting no time to get ready. Back in Curitiba (PR), Brazil, she is training with other eight pilots, from team FlatTrack BR.

"I've been involved with the Flat Track team in Brazil for years, but I've never really raced. The FlatOutFriday race will be my first big competition. To be standing alongside women who are so empowered in this segment is real pressure. I feel grateful for being able to represent Brazilian women, and I hope to do it with honors," says Bruna. This is the second year the Brazilian group come to FlatOutFriday.

BREAKING BARRIERS: beyond the track

Bruna's participation at FlatOutFriday is a significant milestone because it also shows the industry's recognition of the women's involvement in the Brazilian bike scene. By taking part in a program such as BTR's, she increases awareness about all the opportunities for women in the two wheels universe, from being a rider to taking active roles in fabrication and market decisions.

The growth of #ElasPilotam movement in such a small period of time in Brazil is one of the proofs of how the female riding community needed an outlet to connect around the country. Besides the initiative, Bruna also fosters the motorcycling niche through events like the BMS Motorcycle, and the only Wall of Death show in Latin America.

27th Annual Blind Willie McTell Music Festival Lineup Announced

THOMSON, Ga. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Activities Council of Thomson proudly announces the lineup of musicians for the 27th Annual Blind Willie McTell Music Festival. This year's date for the iconic day of great roots music is Saturday May 2, in Thomson, Georgia. The one-day event is held in honor of Thomson's Blind Willie McTell, a pioneering guitarist, songwriter and performer.

McTell, a giant of a performer in the first half of the 20th century, was a complete original - whose talent was unmatched regarding early American music. He was born South of Thomson in McDuffie County and is buried in the Happy Valley area of McDuffie County. Modern guitarists, far and wide, cite his influence as a writer, a player, and an entertainer.

The roster for the 27th features a broad swipe of influences from blues to gospel to Americana. The fest this year will feature The War and Treaty, the husband and wife duo of Michael and Tanya Trotter. They won Emerging Act of the Year at the 2019 Americana Music Awards. The award came after a breakthrough 2018 when they released their debut Healing Tide. The disc was produced by Buddy Miller (who headlined the 20th McTell Fest).

In addition, the festival will feature Son Volt, the pre-imminent combo lead by Jay Farrar, who along with Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, was one of the founders of Uncle Tupelo. With the latest disc, Union, Son Volt has released 10 albums of original material by Farrar, all of which is strongly and equally influenced by folk, rock, blues and country styles of music. They've been making strong critically acclaimed music for a couple of decades and we could not be prouder to have them at this year's fest.

Returning to Thomson in 2020 will be the Bros Landreth. Led by Canadians Joey Landreth on guitar and his brother David Landreth on bass, the latest version of their quartet is out touring behind a new disc, "87." They opened our show a few years back in trio format and we're excited for them to return. From Santa Monica, we are honored to introduce Joachim Cooder to Thomson, the home of McTell. Cooder, son of famed guitarist and musicologist Ry Cooder, is a percussionist, drummer and pianist and will be on our stage, fronting his trio. Do a search of his recording credits and you'll see an amazing list of music projects he has participated in. Cooder's eclectic solo material is his own take on the influences he's been exposed to all his life and he's out touring ahead of his second release, slated for later in the year.

Rounding out the lineup will be Atlanta's Blair Crimmins and the Hookers and 12 string guitarist Todd Albright, from Michigan. Crimmins and his band offer an incredible blast of high energy Ragtime and Dixieland music, filtered through a lens of Crimmins originals and rollicking covers from the early 20th century. Albright comes to Thomson from Detroit. Touring solo, he is a wonderful performer, vocalist, and player of the twelve-string guitar. Of course, he's a disciple of McTell, Leadbelly and other great Country blues artists from the past and will right at home on our stage.

Texas Heat Wave will include a new series of black and white oil paintings of caballeros and bandidos by Laura Goodson, who was raised in Southwest Texas near the Mexico border. Goodson's monochromatic characters draw lines between good and evil, and ultimately, the human condition. These portraits of masculine characters from the American West tell a story that emphasizes guilt, misdirection, and loss, but also the hope of human resilience and perseverance through difficulty.

Rachel Dory of Austin will present a new series of windswept landscapes and cityscapes that takes the audience on a journey of discovery through roadside America. Her subtle, muted earth tones convey a quiet simplicity devoid of distractions, impurities, and excess. The resulting image serves as a window through which you take a closer look and feel like you know that place.

At the other end of the color spectra, Austin-based artist Sari Shryack uses color as an almost explosive element. Her images of pop culture whirl and twirl through bright seas of vibrant color. Similarly, the urban street art of Rapheal Crump illustrates the world as Crump sees it, not as it is. With neon glare and fluorescent flourish, Crump gives the viewer an up close view of life on the street, from street lamps to kicks.

The show will also feature new bronze sculptures by Dallas-based artist Jennifer Troice that use elegant and simple lines to convey the grace and beauty of nature. Accented angles contrast with organic shapes. While distinctly modern, the sculptures are not abstract; instead, they fall within the category of geometric minimalism.

The exhibition will also include new works by Christopher Turner, Carla Bosch, Nicolle Dhimes, Jill Hakala, Leslie Gaworecki, Carlos Castillo Marcoleta and other gallery artists who live in Texas. These are well-established and solidly-emerging artists working in oil, acrylic, glass, and mixed media.

The Open Book Theatre Presents Unique Holiday Entertainment for the Whole Family

Koons, also a veteran Broadway and film actor, performs his own work accompanied on the clarinet by Broadway musician Mikki Ryan Koons ("Wicked," "The Lion King"), who happens to be his wife. Rounding out this true family affair is a special appearance by their comedically gifted 13-year-old son, Merlin Ryan Koons.

A few lucky kids from the audience will be called up to help act out the colorful story that actor Leonard Nimoy called "an absolutely charming addition to the funny and heartwarming tales of those lovable fools" from the legendary, mythical town of Chelm. Publisher's Weekly called the show "a love letter to every family that resists December's siren song of assimilation."

"A Confused Hanukkah" is fun for audiences both young and old. Dreidels will be given to all children in attendance, and there will be a drawing to win a menorah at each performance.

"The Last Christmas of Ebenezer Scrooge," adapted by author Marvin Kaye from his novel, is the sequel to "A Christmas Carol" that Charles Dickens probably meant to write but never did. Picking up right where "Carol" left off, and written in true Dickensian style, "The Last Christmas of Ebenezer Scrooge" depicts a kindlier Scrooge struggling to right the unresolved wrong hidden within Dickens' original story. The moving narrative explores in depth the issue of anti-Semitism briefly touched upon in the original, evoking the spirit of the season and the period in which it takes place.

According to the New York Times, "'The Last Christmas of Ebenezer Scrooge' is more than an adventure. It is an exploration of friendship, penitence, guilt, anti-Semitism and brotherhood in the true spirit of the season...the venerable Open Book readers theatre company generously rewards a visit." Theatre Talk adds, "New York needs to make room for a tradition with substance...(this show) will definitely put you in the Christmas Spirit."
