We Are G.A.M.E. Alum DJ Reed’s NFL Career Demonstrates ‘It Takes a Village’

TORRANCE, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Allen Thigpen, co-founder of We Are G.A.M.E., grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey rooting for the New York Jets, even back when they were the Titans. After graduating from Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University), in Chester, Pennsylvania, Thigpen was commissioned as a second Lieutenant in the United States Army and served as an officer during the Vietnam era.

Fast forward to 2008, and Thigpen - still a Jets fan - founded We Are G.A.M.E. (Getting Athletes Mentoring and Education) with his wife Joyce. A few years later, the Thigpens received an email from Linda Reed, a single parent and cancer survivor in Bakersfield, California. She inquired if her son, DJ, could join the program while attending Independence High School.

The answer was yes. After mentoring DJ through high school, the Thigpens helped to set him up for success in college. Joyce attended Fresno State University's "Dog Days" orientation with DJ and Linda. At the time, it was unheard of for a student-athlete to arrive on campus with their own college counselor.

Ultimately, after some time attending Fresno State, DJ determined that it wasn't the right fit. The Thigpens jumped back in, helping him interview at four different community colleges. DJ chose Cerritos College, where Linda made the three-hour drive to attend every home game. At the same time, Blaze and Cheryl Bhence attended his home games and practices and took him out to dinner frequently. Meanwhile, Joyce developed an education plan, helping DJ get his Associate of Arts degree in just one year.

His performance at Cerritos landed him a football scholarship to Kansas State University, where Allen and Joyce, along with mentor Karen Rogers, regularly attended games. They also traveled to Phoenix to watch DJ and Elijah Walker play in the Cactus Bowl. At that game, DJ literally gave the shirt off his back and his cleats to kids in attendance so they wouldn't leave empty-handed.

After that bowl game, DJ declared for the NFL draft. The We Are G.A.M.E. family got to attend the draft party to hear his name called in the fifth round as he was picked up by the San Francisco 49ers.

The story doesn't end there, though. One day, Allen got a call that DJ had signed with the New York Jets. His football life had now come full circle. As the regular season starts this weekend, you can spot DJ wearing #4 for the Jets, his mentor's longtime team of choice.

In the last six months, after a successful launch of "Daddy's Margarita Rose," the record, on major streaming services back in January of 2022, three (3) songs off of the record have been released in Europe. All three songs experienced success on the European Charts, all climbing into the top 10 and reaching as high as number 2# for the first release and #3 for the second release. The current release off of Daddy's Margarita Rose, the record, has been on the European Top 40 Charts for four weeks (4) it debuted at #12 and currently sits at #8 (Hotdisc Top 40, August 28, 2022).

Hogan has been curating Media Development Collections since 2012 traveling out of the country and documenting the breathtaking cultures and agriculture in Swaziland, Africa where Hogan aided in the construction of a church and fixed soccer fields that the kids of the community use daily. Marinequa is an emerging Media Development Agency drawing attention with intense colors, unique set design, and a personalized photo and video experience, led by Jaiden Hogan.

Slaughter

Jovan Slaughter was crucial to the development of GCCP's structure, assisting the people of Flint to better represent themselves in the media. Slaughter has been assisting the communities of Flint for over 5 years allowing opportunities for the residents to speak on an open forum of their personal endeavors. As such Slaughter has in-depth knowledge in the field of Community Advocacy and Promotion including the operations side (e.g., running day-to-day operations) and the business management side (e.g., staffing, marketing, etc.).

High Tied

Jaden Switalski was responsible for editing the footage scheduled by Jovan Slaughter after being captured by Jaiden Hogan. Switalski specializes in skills such as Video Production, Editing, Scripting, Graphic Design, Audio Engineering, and Google and YouTube SEO (Search Engine Optimization) since his beginnings in content creation in 2013.

Jonathan McKay, the founder of Keeping Tabs, started a partnership in February with Jaden Switalski, to develop digital assets and launch High Tied Productions in the Web 3 Digital Space. High Tied Production is owned and operated by Jaden Switalski. Studying the inner workings of social media marketing through its peak he became aware of the gaps in the industry that needed to be filled. High Tied Production was founded to fill those gaps in content creation.

Keeping Tabs has since premiered the first High Tied Augmented Reality Filter with technologies provided by the Meta Suite and Spark AR and began development on the first model for the High Tied Metaverse, "High Tied Island." Switalski believes that Web 3 and Blockchain Technologies will impact the future of art and creation without taking away the raw beauty and spirit of traditional art forms.

Van Der Plas

Jonathan McKay was contacted by Van Der Plas Gallery's online curation department for the exhibition, "Flight of the Butterfly," which hosts Virtual Gallery tours post-show. Van Der Plas is a core part of the contemporary and underground art scene in New York.

McKay and Switalski paired with painter Jessica Peterson, to create a 20 x 36 acrylic painting on canvas of High Tied Island. Continuing to push the boundaries of traditional media and be a driving force in the development of artists and content creation through the rise of digital curation.

Al Diaz who is well-known for his collaboration with Jean-Michel Basquiat on SAMO(c) was also featured in the Flight of the Butterfly.

Linnea Moritz is an artist who specialized in cubism; an art style specialized in capturing the essence and energy of an object, scene, or person, rather than focusing on the physical representation as we see it. This summer she was selected twice to exhibit at the Van Der Plas Gallery in the art exhibits "Rays of Light" and "Flight of the Butterfly" on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in New York City.

Linnea Moritz has also collaborated directly with Model Jonathan McKay to create a multimedia art piece for the 'Art Groove' show at Bowery Art Room. The art piece was created as a testimony to highlight McKay's important role as an influence; his travels and partnerships through Flint Innovative Solutions allowed him to have a positive impact on his local community.

After a long history in Global Philanthropy and Fundraising Keeping Tabs and Moritz are looking to amalgamate in the presentation of a new sports-based art collection in partnership with the influence of Webster University Women's Basketball Player Jenna Gregory.

Danish Volunteers Say Learning About Drug Abuse Can Save Your Life

In the troupe's most recent news, the Comedians with Disabilities Act is announcing it will be touring Northern California, featuring four headliners across 4 different venues - just in time for the Disability Awareness Month of October. Author, comedian and Disability advocate Nina G, who has been with the Comedians with Disabilities Act since 2011, will host all four shows.

San Francisco Bay Area favorite at local clubs, Mean Dave, will headline Santa Cruz's Greater Purpose Brewing as part of the Santa Cruz Comedy Festival. Dave is in his 8th year of recovery from addiction, which he ingeniously weaves into his humor. "Not a lot of people know that being an addict in recovery is covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act," Mean Dave advocates.

Jade Theriault has performed multiple times with the Comedians with Disabilities Act and always brings down the house. As someone with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Jade uses a wheelchair, but that experience isn't the only topic she jokes about. "We came a long way from crawling up steps and hiding away in homes. I do think the mainstream is ready for Disabled comedy. We're too loud for the microphones." Jade adds, "I'm stoked to headline Alameda's wheelchair accessible stage on October 13."

Dan Smith, who headlines the Sacramento Comedy Spot on October 14, sums up why he and so many others on this tour are excited. The Lowell Chamber Orchestra announces its fourth season

"The ending is not so much about requesting to go back to Eisenstadt, as it is about demonstrating the importance of teamwork and working together (as told by Giaccomo Ferrari); and in a world where war and political tensions plague our everyday life, we program this piece as a call for global unity and peace."

The season features many guest artists: for the first time ever, the Lowell Chamber Orchestra will feature Canadian conductor Geneviève Leclair as the LCO's first ever guest conductor, and Roi Karni, the winner of LCO's first ever concerto competition. Vocalists Sophie Michaux and Rose Hegele, and cellist Leo Eguchi will also be featured, among others.

David Vass’ One Man Show ‘What Could Go Wrong?’ Arrives to Pay Per View

As the realities of the travel restrictions because of CoVid were realized, David used that two-year period to rewrite the live version material and create the movie script. He also redesigned the play website, created his YouTube Television Channel, and legalized the production company ('I'm Afraid Knot LLC') into a non-profit 501-C organization.

Fervently believing, given the content and candid honesty of this adults-only production, that "audience members should feel free to walk out or turn off the PPV, no offense taken by me", he also reminds the audiences of both methods of seeing the 'evening with' his strong belief that our collective freedom of speech is under attack during these 'woke' times. This first half of his life can be brutal and repugnant, as life can be. There are performances where the coarse language used can come under attack, which he brushes off with "this is how white trash talked in those days."

He recalls at seven years of age being asked if he was a 'butch or a fem', a few years later a 'top or a bottom', skip forward to 'are you bi'. These questions all asked in the 50's and with no resources for Vass to reference - he didn't know any of those words. He learned at 14 what fellatio meant when a uniformed policeman pulled him into an alley and demanded just that. His first sexual encounter was not warm and fuzzy but makes for a sad but fascinating monologue segment about that time in gay history when the police and the Mafia pulled the strings on what the gay tribe could or could not do, and the prices paid for that suppression.

NJ Film Creator Exposes Wrongful Conviction: Documentary Calls for Justice in Alabama

We must show compassion for those suffering from injustice and create more awareness of injustice to prevent such unfairness from ever happening again."

Wilson, who speaks directly about the case in the film in candid and eye-opening interviews, calls Adam "her angel."

Adam contends the Alabama jury nearly 30 years ago was unduly influenced by the revelation Betty Wilson, a white woman, had a sexual affair with a black man. Adams explores the racial overtones in the trial.

"This was a passion project and I can see it reflected in the outcome," said actor/film editor Jolon Franklin.

The documentary presents graphic photos of the crime scene and makes use of re-creations to enhance the understanding of the trial. Adam hopes the movie will be a driving force for Wilson's acquittal.

The operations succeeded in impersonating influencers while getting influencer followers to believe the fake posts, retweeting and liking the posts creating Twitter trends."

One of the methods used extensively by Iran's cyber operations is using personas presenting themselves as dissidents to create division between opposition groups and to use IRGC and MOIS demonization operations against prominent opposition groups. Under the pretext of internal hostility, they can advance the demonization operation against the main opposition and create deviant waves to divert public opinion from essential developments. A technique previously reported by Treadstone 71, now used in more complex and advanced methods.

Two We Are G.A.M.E. Alums Graduate with Notable Degrees and Clear Paths

Alyssa Charles, a softball player who attended Stockdale High School in Bakersfield, California, graduated from Menlo College in northern California with an accounting degree, a 3.96 GPA, no student loan debt, and a job. Clearly, We Are G.A.M.E. emphasized the student portion of student-athlete for these two young women, setting them on a path toward success.

Charles says that Joyce and Allen Thigpen of We Are G.A.M.E. played a critical role in helping her explore her college options, looking at everything from pros and cons to pricing. "We Are G.A.M.E. really helped my college career," she explains. And it paid, quite literally. Charles, part of the first generation in her family to graduate college, personally paid off her student loans during college. She graduates with no student debt thanks to jobs she held while pursuing her degree.

Charles's We Are G.A.M.E. involvement also helped her chart her post-college course. Allen Thigpen connected her to mentors in the accounting world. As a result, she was able to shop her options and is confidently headed in the direction of audit accounting as she grows her career. After completing two summer internships with KPMG International, one of the Big Four accounting organizations, she's joining their team full-time.

During her time at Menlo College, Charles was on the dean's list all four years. She was also:

* On the weightlifting team

* President of the Latinx club

* A resident assistant (RA)

* A member of the Alpha Chi and Beta Gamma Sigma honor societies

Jones had a similarly illustrious post-high school career. At Lesley University in the Boston area, where she earned her psychology degree, she was a three-year captain with two all-honors conference nominations. Not only did she finish her basketball career there with over 1,000 points, but she also set the university's single-game record with 25 rebounds.

It wasn't all basketball for Jones. She graduated with four semesters on the dean's list and secured an internship at Harvard University, where she was a research assistant in a social psychology lab. That led her to her current path. Not only did Jones complete her master's degree in public health with a concentration in social and behavioral sciences, but she also landed a job. Jones has accepted a position as a research grant specialist for the Georgetown University Medical Center.

These two women applied what they learned at We Are G.A.M.E. to not just support their sports careers after high school, but to chart their course into meaningful careers as adults, too. Both graduate with notable degrees headed straight into positions that fit their skills and interests.

With the onset of COVID-19 and the spotlight on racial disparages, we really wanted Sammy to just create stories that were fun and lighthearted."

Originally from Oklahoma City, Sammy is excited he returned for the summer while working on his second book. "I love when we come to Oklahoma City. It's so much fun to spend time with my family," said Sammy. "I'm also excited to meet other kids at the book readings." He wants to encourage other kids to write books and hopes to serve as an inspiration.

"Kids make great authors because we know what other kids like," said Sammy. "I think more kids should write books...they just need to be encouraged and told that it's possible."

The book is a comical story about a boy who finally decides to sleep in his bed. While fast asleep, a mysterious monster wakes him up from his dream. Confused as to exactly what the monster is and what the monster wants, the brave boy contemplates a series of possibilities as he tries to unlock the mystery. Graduated as a doctor of medicine from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in 1995. He is Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Corazones Unidos Clinic in Santo Domingo, and founder of the prestigious Institute of Anti-Aging Medicine Puntacana Rejuvenation Center.

He completed his specialty in Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at the Santa Casa de la Misericordia General Hospital in the City of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil 20 years ago. Specialist in Anti-Aging Medicine from the University of Seville.

At the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, he was Chair of the International Committee from 2011 to 2016. Member of the ASPS and ASAPS.

He is the only Hispanic member of the United States Physicians Coalition for Injectable Safety.

Our selected 2020 winner was Master Sergeant Keith Tucker, a veteran who honorably served our country for 24 years in the Air Force and was stationed at Luke Air Force Base. This opportunity came at the perfect time for Mr. Tucker, as he and his wife Diana were moving into their new home that had an existing unit that was over 15 years old.
