Deaf Financial Advisor Lee Kramer Named to Money’s Changemakers List

FREDERICK, Md. /ScoopCloud/ -- Money profiled 50 innovators shaping Americans' finances, and included Kramer Wealth Managers' CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional Lee Kramer in their list. The wide-ranging list of people making meaningful, positive change in personal finance include Senator Elizabeth Warren, Ethereum co-creator Vitalik Buterin, YouTuber MrBeast, singer Lil Nas X, and Roblox CEO David Baszucki.

Lee Kramer was named to the list in large part due to his work in bridging the gaps of financial literacy within the Deaf community. "Many of us learn financial concepts from our parents when we're young, but when there's a communication barrier and you can't communicate well with your parents, that information doesn't get passed down," he says. "Dinner table conversations over holidays - Deaf children don't have the ability to just overhear Dad and Grandpa talking about their investment portfolios."

Providing Deaf wealth management services has been a challenge. There are only two Deaf CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals who are currently practicing and both are with Kramer Wealth Managers. Their team also has the first Deaf female financial advisor to pass the FINRA Series 7.

Kramer's company has an entire "Learn From Us" section on its website that includes an ASL library of finance and investment terms like diversification, time horizon and volatility. (Upon clicking a glossary card, a video pops up with a brief explanation in ASL.) Another part of the site is devoted to vlogs in ASL that tackle current events like inflation. It's helpful information even if you're hearing, which many of Kramer's clients are.

Kramer Wealth Managers was established in 1985 and includes five Deaf advisors and five full-time staffers, two of whom are hearing. Everyone is fluent in ASL and works out of offices in Maryland and Texas.

Money was founded in 1972 as a print magazine that helped everyday people live richer lives by learning personal finance strategies that improved their bottom line. Money is written and edited by a team of journalists and researchers with decades of experience and have won national awards for reporting. AI for Good uses ChatGPT to address UN Challenges, Solve Enterprise Problems

KYIV, Ukraine /ScoopCloud/ -- A Ukraine and U.S.-based NGO called AI For Good is utilizing the immense power of ChatGPT and similar programs, to quickly and efficiently address problems ranging from predicting the targets of upcoming Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian civilians, to helping Afghan women overcome cultural isolation in their homeland.

"This new generation of AI tools is allowing us to approach difficult humanitarian, technical, and economic challenges in hundreds of new ways," says co-founder Svetlana Shevchenko. "The vast power of these programs will inevitably be used by many entities, some of whom may be bad actors. So it behooves those of us who really want to build planet-friendly projects to optimize their use."

AI for Good began by developing projects addressing the UN's 17 Sustainability Goals. The group notes that ChatGPT has been overwhelmingly transformative, but so have other things like group brainstorming programs and instant text-to-video software.

These have evolved into a series of multi-step protocols which conclude with Zoom mind mapping sessions to refine successful results. Sometimes these results include hundreds of videos posted to YouTube, TikTok and Instagram Reels, which makes it simpler than ever to mount a social movement, according to AI for Good's CIO John Toomey.

"For the first time in human history, we can quickly build living, practically eternal and infinitely replicable planetary improvement projects at the conjunction of human and artificial intelligence, which categorize and classify the biggest challenges to Humanity. We can divide them into achievable tasks to inspire people to give their all to solve them, and utilize the limitless power of modern tech to find solutions. They work because we ally ourselves with the algorithms of the social media and video platforms themselves," says AI for Good's vice president Soani Gunawan. "Through powerful but easily available tech, we allow our participants to execute their own Hero's Journeys. And the skills and attitudes developed are readily transferable to the corporate, academic, government, and non-profit worlds."

Before the war in Ukraine, many of AI for Good's members worked as corporate consultants, helping companies and NGOs improve their messaging, advertising, employee retention, product development, and marketing. The abilities they have developed with the humanitarian, educational and environmental causes have enhanced their skill sets for business.

Some of AI for Good's people previously contributed to video challenges run by TikTok For Good, including one called #EduTok, which resulted in a total of 8.8 million videos, and 41 billion views. Teams calculated that for every 100,000 views, 75 startups were founded, 125 patents were applied for, and 20 non-profits came into being. They'd like to replicate these results around the globe (see https://www.tiktok.com/forgood).

By mid-2023, they plan to have brainstorming and mind mapping sessions devoted to issues within each of the 17 UN challenges. They are also creatina worldwide online Hackathon; both of these will run 24-7. The number of projects created by 2024 may well be in the thousands.

The latest completed program is an online "Sher Jangi," or poetry contest, a wildly popular pastime in Afghanistan. ChatGPT replicated the style of 17th century female Afghani writers, turned ideas about women's empowerment into verse, and translated all of them into Pashto, Farsi, and Uzbek. The entire project took 35 minutes. The few Taliban who witnessed the results were reportedly impressed (see https://www.afghanwomenrising.org/).

Other current projects address the transmission of vector-borne tropical diseases, resource allocation for eventual Lunar and Martian colonies, flood control in Bangla Desh, literacy in war-torn Syria, and the development of Entrepreneurship in East Africa.

Later this year the group will confer upon 17 accomplished creators the first Gaia Awards, whose name recognizes both the Mythic concept of Goddess Earth as a unitary organism, a view pioneered by naturalist James Lovelock, and the acronym G.A.I.A: Good AI Awards.

Nina G, one of the first stuttering comedians, records debut solo album and live show at the Alameda Comedy Club

OAKLAND, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Thirteen years ago, Nina G made her debut as the first stuttering female comedian. Since then, she's challenged the status quo of how people who stutter are perceived - onstage and off. So, in an industry that lacks speech diversity, Nina G's unique voice will record both her first solo comedy album and comedy special on March 9, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Alameda Comedy Club located in her hometown. The album is projected to come out later in the spring on the Punchline Records label with the comedy special to follow.

Since a child, Nina G's mission has been to make people laugh, but she never thought it possible. Her story details how she first abandoned her dreams, but then was able to embark on a journey and embrace her voice to culminate in a comedic career.

Like many successful comedians, the material conveyed through her humor is grounded in reality. Nina G's biting observations have made audiences laugh, worldwide. She touches on topics related to the broader disability experience, her Italian-American family and her experience paying back student loans.

And her audience is large. The Stuttering Foundation reports that, globally, there are more that 70 million people who stutter and that stuttering impacts about one percent of the adult population; one in four of them is female.

She says that there are many famous people who stutter too. Marilyn Monroe, James Earl Jones, President Joe Biden, Samuel L. Jackson and King George VI, who was the focus of the movie "The King's Speech" all had or have issues with stuttering. While there's no cure for stuttering, Nina G makes it easy for people to understand and laugh about it.

Her ability to quickly adapt makes her comfortable performing in multiple venues from comedy clubs and colleges/universities to conferences. She's been featured on NPR's "51 percent," BBC's "Ouch!," TEDx, The Heumann Perspective podcast with Judy Heumann, radio and multiple day time talk shows and podcasts. She's appeared in the pages of "Psychology Today" and is the author of three books including: "Bay Area Stand-Up Comedy: A Humorous History"; and "Stutterer Interrupted: The Comedian Who Almost Didn't Happen."

An international keynote speaker, Nina G has learned that the issues impacting people with disabilities impact everyone. She hopes her album and comedy special will not only entertain, but inform, not just stutterers, but all.

In 2021, the British Stammering Association launched a campaign to raise awareness around stuttering in the media. "No diversity without disfluency" was one of the tags used to illustrate the need for stuttering voices among those in the mainstream.

"These voices shouldn't be heard only on stuttering awareness days or weeks, but across all media," Nina G says.

Gina Chin-Davis, the director of Nina's comedy special, and also a stutterer, says, "There's so much ignorance and misinformation about stuttering out there. With Nina G, you not only get comedy, you also get schooled on what stuttering really is and how to respectfully interact with people who stutter. It's exciting to collaborate with someone who can skillfully walk the line between entertainment and education."

Mathew Layne of Punchline Records adds, "One of the reasons I started Punchline Records was to help amplify comedic voices that may have otherwise been marginalized. Funny is funny. Nina G is one of the funniest - stuttering or not."

About Nina G:

When she first started out, Nina G. was the only woman who stuttered in the stand-up comedy world. Today, she co-produces the "Comedians with Disabilities Act," a national touring comedy show featuring exclusively comedians with disabilities. She also produced the first compilation album to feature Disabled Comedy Only. Nina's brand of comedy reflects the experiences of many with disabilities.

About Gina Chin-Davis:

Gina Chin-Davis is an award-winning filmmaker and writer based in California. She attended Barnard College in New York City where she received the Howard M. Teichmann Writing Prize for work distinguished in originality of concept and excellence of execution. Chin Davis' writings have been featured in Rigorous, Penultimate Peanut, and The Conium Review, and her plays have been produced by The Aluminous Collective and The Piedmont Center for the Arts.

Her first feature film, "I Can't Sleep," was produced on a self-raised budget of $10K and went on to win Best Script at the Boston Sci-Fi Film Festival and Best Sci-Fi Film at the MidWest WeirdFest. Outside of her creative endeavors, Chin-Davis is a clinical psychologist. Her greatest honor has been to return to her hometown of Richmond, CA to provide trauma-informed mental health care to young adults in the public health sector.

Sales Boomerang releases Q4 2022 Mortgage Market Opportunities Report

OWINGS MILLS, Md. /ScoopCloud/ -- Sales Boomerang, the mortgage industry's top-rated automated borrower intelligence and retention system, and Mortgage Coach, a platform empowering mortgage lenders to educate borrowers with interactive home loan presentations, today announced the release of Sales Boomerang's latest Mortgage Market Opportunities Report. With mortgage volume continuing to decline, the Q4 2022 report highlights pockets of opportunity still available to motivated and innovative loan originators.

Methodology

The Mortgage Market Opportunities Report draws on Sales Boomerang system data to identify market opportunities of relevance to today's borrowers and lenders. To generate the report, Sales Boomerang reviewed data from more than 150 residential mortgage lenders, a subset of its clients, that use its borrower intelligence and retention tools to monitor millions of customer and prospect records. Sales Boomerang then calculated and compared the aggregate frequency with which those contact records triggered loan-opportunity, prescriptive-scenario and risk-and-retention alerts during the third and fourth quarters of 2022.

Key Findings*

Sales Boomerang's loan-opportunity alerts identify the contacts inside a lender's database who are actively shopping for a mortgage loan or who may be able to benefit from a new mortgage loan. Across the sample group, the frequency of each alert type in Q4 2022 was as follows:

* Mortgage Inquiry Alert: 1.58% of monitored contacts (down 44.37% from Q3)

A customer or prospect has shopped with a competitor in the last 24 hours.

* EPO Alert: 0.81% of monitored contacts (down 60.49% from Q3)

A customer or prospect whose loan closed ≤ 6 months ago has shopped with a competitor in the last 24 hours.

* Credit Improvement Alert: 4.00% of monitored contacts (down 26.87% from Q3)

A customer or prospect has improved their FICO score.

* New Listing Alert: 0.52% of monitored contacts (down 53.57% from Q3)

A customer or prospect has listed their home for sale.

* Equity Alert: 3.01% of monitored contacts (down 35.68% from Q3)

A customer or prospect's home equity has increased.

* Rate Alert: 0.05% of monitored contacts (down 89.80% from Q3)

The interest rate of a customer or prospect's existing mortgage is significantly higher than current prevailing rates.

Sales Boomerang's prescriptive-scenario alerts analyze not only whether a consumer could benefit from a given loan type, but also whether the consumer is credit-qualified to apply for financing. This additional layer of intelligence makes prescriptive-scenario alerts among the highest-converting available to mortgage lenders today. The frequency of each alert during Q4 2022 was as follows:

* Cash-Out Alert: 2.07% of monitored contacts (down 20.38% from Q3)

A borrower is credit qualified and has built sufficient equity to tap into the cash in their home.

* Rate-and-Term Alert: 0.05% of monitored contacts (down 95.93% from Q3)

A borrower is credit qualified and can benefit from the current interest rates for a refinance.

* FHA MI Removal Alert: 2.07% of monitored contacts (down 80.08% from Q3)

An FHA borrower has exceeded 20% equity and can remove mortgage insurance (MI).

For a subset of lenders that maintain servicing portfolios, the frequency of risk-and-retention alerts was as follows:

* Risk & Retention Alert: 43.46% of monitored contacts (up 43.53% from Q3)

A customer is engaging in one or more of 15 credit activities that may put their serviced loan at risk.

Analysis*

* Although Credit Improvement, Equity and FHA MI Removal alerts were down from Q3, they outperformed other alert types, signaling that opportunities remain for lenders to reconnect with previously denied loan applicants and help homeowners with untapped equity improve their financial situation.

* New Listing alerts fell for a second consecutive quarter, reflecting a decrease in U.S. housing inventory between October and November of 2022. The shortage of supply, which is especially pronounced for entry-level homes, has left first-time buyers on the sidelines and homeowners afraid to trade up. Strategies like down payment assistance and seller buy-downs are becoming increasingly important tools for lenders looking to serve more purchase customers.

* Risk & Retention alerts were up more than 40% for the second quarter in a row amid reports that inflation has consumers dipping into savings and racking up credit card debt. With retail store credit cards now carrying APRs of more than 30%, home equity remains an attractive alternative, even in the current mortgage interest rate environment.

* Mortgage Inquiry and EPO alerts decreased for the third consecutive quarter. With fewer consumers actively putting themselves in the market for a mortgage, originators must proactively engage with consumers to understand their financial goals and demonstrate how the right mortgage loan can help.

"As the trends from Q3 continued, and in some cases intensified, in Q4, lenders need to remain proactive and creative in order to keep their pipelines from drying up," said Sales Boomerang and Mortgage Coach Chief Visionary Officer Alex Kutsishin. "By pairing Sales Boomerang's borrower intelligence with Mortgage Coach's Total Cost Analysis, lenders can find opportunities hidden in their own databases and present borrowers with innovative loan strategies for purchasing a home, building wealth or paying off debts. In this market, it's becoming more important each day for lenders to think creatively and build consumer trust."

*Key findings and analysis provided for informational purposes only. The data represented in the Mortgage Market Opportunities report is historical. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results. Sales Boomerang accepts no responsibility or liability for readers' use of the key findings or analysis included in this report.

Scorecard Ranks States for Water Efficiency and Sustainability Policies – Utah Ranks #20

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah /ScoopCloud/ -- Today the Alliance for Water Efficiency (AWE) released the 2022 U.S. State Policy Scorecard for Water Efficiency and Sustainability (Scorecard), which ranked each U.S. state based on its adoption of laws and policies that advance water efficiency, conservation, sustainability, and affordability. Utah was ranked 20th in the nation and fifth in the Colorado River Basin region, scoring 28 out of 89 possible points.

"With water shortages in the Colorado River Basin and alarming water level declines in the Great Salt Lake, Utah urgently needs further investments in water efficiency and conservation," said Ron Burke, President and CEO of AWE, "Progress has been made in recent years, but in many ways, Utah is playing catch up when it should be leading the pack."

AWE found several gaps in how Utah supports local water agencies, businesses, and residents in managing water efficiently and sustainably.

The report includes four priority recommendations:

1 -- Require plumbing fixtures sold in-state to meet WaterSense efficiency specifications

2 -- Adopt policies to limit water loss in utility distribution systems

3 -- Provide state funding for water reuse/recycling

4 -- Ensure state funding for landscape transformation is used cost-effectively

While some states improved since AWE's previous Scorecard was released in 2017, the analysis found little progress overall, even as droughts and other climate change impacts increasingly undermine affordable, reliable water services. The average state score was only 23 out of 89 possible points.

"Water efficiency and conservation are typically the fastest and least expensive ways to save water while also lowering water bills, reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, protecting rivers and lakes, and enhancing resilience to extreme weather events," said Burke.

Effective state-level water conservation policies are even more important now that the U.S. Congress has authorized billions of dollars in loans and grants for water services as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act. Many of these funds will be administered by states and can only be maximized with good state policies in place.

California was the top-ranked state in the nation earning 72.5 out of 89 possible points followed by Texas with 54.5 points. The remaining top ten highest-ranked states, in order, are Arizona, Georgia, Washington, New York, Nevada, New Hampshire, Colorado, and Minnesota.

Key findings include:

* Connecticut was the only state that reported using its own funds to support customer water bill assistance

* California is the only state that requires water utilities to plan for climate change

* 18 states use their own revenues to fund water efficiency and conservation

* 16 states provide funding for water reuse.

* 13 states require rate structures that encourage water efficiency

Scorecard Ranks States for Water Efficiency and Sustainability Policies – New Mexico Ranks #24

SANTA FE, N.M. /ScoopCloud/ -- Today the Alliance for Water Efficiency (AWE) released the 2022 U.S. State Policy Scorecard for Water Efficiency and Sustainability (Scorecard), which ranked each U.S. state based on its adoption of laws and policies that advance water efficiency, conservation, sustainability, and affordability. New Mexico received 20 out of 89 possible points, tying for the 24th ranked spot in the nation, and ranked sixth in the Colorado River Basin region.

"With water shortages in the Colorado and Rio Grande River Basins that are likely to get worse because of climate change, New Mexico urgently needs further investments in water efficiency and conservation," said Ron Burke, President and CEO of AWE. "New Mexico received less than 1/4th of the possible Scorecard points, and only Wyoming scored worse among the Colorado River Basin states."

AWE found several gaps in how New Mexico supports local water agencies, businesses, and residents in managing water efficiently and sustainably.

The report includes three priority recommendations:

* Require plumbing fixtures sold in-state to meet WaterSense efficiency specifications

* Adopt policies to limit water loss in utility distribution systems

* Require water utilities to develop and implement drought preparedness plans

California ranked first in the nation, with 72.5 points, followed by Texas with 54.5 points. The remaining top ten highest-ranked states, in order, are Arizona, Georgia, Washington, New York, Nevada, New Hampshire, Colorado, Minnesota.

* 19 states require coordination between local land use and water planning agencies.

Despite the low scores, there were some bright spots, including ten states adopting point-of-sale plumbing efficiency requirements since 2017 that go beyond federal standards, for a current total of 15 states plus the District of Columbia.

Scorecard Ranks States for Water Efficiency and Sustainability Policies – California Ranks #1

SACRAMENTO Calif. California was the top-ranked state in the nation and in the Colorado River Basin region, scoring 72.5 out of 89 possible points.

"California continues to lead the nation in water efficiency and conservation. As our state faces a dwindling snowpack and intense, sustained drought, the Scorecard confirms that California's water managers are working hard to ensure conservation is a California way of life," said Tia Fleming, Co-Executive Director of the California Water Efficiency Partnership, which is a state chapter of AWE.

In the western U.S., a prolonged drought fueled by climate change has contributed to significant water supply shortages. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has called for states in the Colorado River Basin (CRB) to significantly reduce water demand, but negotiations have not resulted in an agreement. AWE found numerous opportunities for policy improvement among the seven CRB states - which averaged 37 points out of 89 possible points - such as adopting plumbing efficiency standards, limiting water loss from utility distribution systems, and funding water reuse and recycling.

While some states improved since AWE's previous Scorecard was released in 2017, the analysis found little progress overall, even as droughts and other climate change impacts increasingly undermine affordable, reliable water services. The average state score was only 23 out of 89 possible points.

"Providing sustainable water services is increasingly costly and complicated because of climate change and other factors," said Ron Burke, President and CEO of AWE. "It's important that states, as well as the federal government, support local efforts to reduce water use with financial assistance, policies that drive best practices, and planning that facilitates cooperation across water sheds."

A common misconception is that water efficiency and conservation in the U.S. are only important in the Southwest where a prolonged drought has created a severe water crisis in the region. However, drought is increasingly common across the nation, with nearly every state experiencing drought in 2022. In addition, the benefits of reducing water use go beyond preventing water shortages. That is reflected in the geographic diversity of the top ten ranked states, with representation from the West but also the South, Midwest and East.

Texas ranked second behind California with 54.5 points. The remaining top ten highest-ranked states, in order, are: Arizona, Georgia, Washington, New York, Nevada, New Hampshire, Colorado, Minnesota.

* 19 states require coordination between local land use and water planning agencies.

Despite the low scores, there were some bright spots, including ten states adopting point-of-sale plumbing efficiency requirements since 2017 that go beyond federal standards, for a current total of 15 states (including California) plus the District of Columbia.

Scorecard Ranks States for Water Efficiency and Sustainability Policies – Arizona Ranks #3 in the Nation, But Improvement is Needed to Address Water Crisis

PHOENIX, Ariz. Arizona was ranked third in the nation, and second in the Colorado River Basin region, scoring 50 out of 89 possible points.

"With its desert climate, rapid population growth, and dwindling water supplies, Arizona needs to continue to make progress, such as the additional water efficiency funding approved in 2022," said Ron Burke, President and CEO of AWE. "Despite its #3 ranking, Arizona only scored 50 out of 89 possible points; the state can and should do more to address its expanding water crisis."

AWE found several gaps in how Arizona supports local water agencies, businesses, and residents in managing water efficiently and sustainably.

Scorecard Ranks States for Water Efficiency and Sustainability Policies – States Responding Slowly to Escalating Water Supply Challenges

CHICAGO, Ill. California was the top-ranked state in the nation, followed by Texas, Arizona, Georgia, Washington, New York, Nevada, New Hampshire, Colorado, and Minnesota.

While some states improved since AWE's previous Scorecard was released in 2017, the analysis found little progress overall, even as droughts and other climate change impacts increasingly undermine affordable, reliable water services. The average state score was only 23 out of 89 possible points.

Activist Writer Exposes Inhumane Slaughter of Dolphins in New Book: The American Outsider

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Linbrook Press announces a new novel, "The American Outsider" (ISBN: 978-0977978038), authored by Homa Pourasgari, scheduled to be released January 23, 2023. It's a story about the inhumane slaughter and torture of dolphins in Taiji, Japan, and addresses the complex nature of the Japanese culture. It's written for anyone who cares about animal welfare and who hopes to make a difference.

Homa, an activist writer, blends fiction with reality. Her stories are based on facts and woven into fictional tales. "The American Outsider" clearly illustrates her talent to communicate real-life horror through well-written fiction.

"After learning about the inhumane slaughter of dolphins in Taiji, and traveling to Japan, I knew I had to write about it," Homa says. "Many people purchase tickets to venues that use dolphins as a source of entertainment, but what they don't realize is that the majority of these dolphins are captured in the most horrific way. They're starved and mistreated to learn pointless tricks so they may entertain the public. It's a tragedy and it's important that people know about it."

That's why dolphins are at the heart of this story.

"We should rethink purchasing tickets to places that keep these cetaceans in captivity and use them for entertainment," she says.

The brutal treatment of the dolphins is depicted under the pretext of tradition - one that drives the fishermen to capture the dolphins. The truth is - it's all about profit and nothing else. Each "show dolphin" they find brings in $100,000 to $300,000.

Aside from the dolphins, there are three main characters in "The American Outsider" who help to tell the story of a complicated culture conflicted by conventions and modernization.

Tessa walker, a Los Angeles-based veterinarian, is troubled by what she witnessed as a teenager - fishermen ruthlessly torturing dolphin pods till the water ran red with blood. As an adult, she travels to Japan to join the Japanese activists protesting the abuse of these mammals so she may heal from her past. It's an adventure with a mission and will quickly prove to change her life.

Akira Nakano, a Japanese activist, joins forces with Tessa to demonstrate and help put a stop to the mistreatment of dolphins. Born in Japan, but raised in the U.S., Akira is outspoken and has a problem looking the other way in a culture that does not look fondly on individuality and expects her to conform.

Toshiro Yokoyama, a random stranger, has a chance encounter with Tessa. He quickly falls for her and decides to help her out in her quest to save the dolphins. As Toshiro learns more about their mistreatment and Tessa's passion to save them, he begins to question his own beliefs. Is he willing to always do as he's told for the greater good?

About the Author:

Born in Tehran, Iran, Homa Pourasgari spent hours in her father's home office, writing, reading and letting her imagination carry her to unseen worlds. She moved to United States at a young age. After graduating from Loyola Marymount University with a degree in business, she left for Paris to study literature at the Sorbonne. Her first book, "Lemon Curd," was nominated for Forward Magazine's Book of the Year Award; it was a finalist. Her second book, "The Dawn of Saudi," won the Reader Views Reviewers Choice Award. She lives in Los Angeles and when she's not writing, she's stumbling, miming and pointing to find her way in a foreign country.

About Linbrook Press:

Linbrook Press is a small publisher based in Los Angeles, primarily involved in the publication of original material from author-activist Homa Pourasgari. It publishes fiction with emphasis on social, ethical, political and human rights issues with intention to entertain and inform. A portion of the profits is donated to organizations such as Dolphin Project, Human Rights Watch, and Action Against Hunger as well as to individual causes such as helping a prisoner of conscience under oppressive regimes get released from jail.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers Year in Review: Disaster Response Teams Reach Out With Help

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- For more than 40 years, Scientology Volunteer Ministers have responded to natural and manmade disasters. And this year was no exception. The year had no sooner started than a massive mudslide devastated Quito, Ecuador. The worst downpour in nearly two decades unleashed a torrent of water, mud, rock and debris that toppled houses, swept away motorcycles and cars, and left thousands stranded. Scientology Volunteer Ministers helped with the cleanup and provided supplies to those in need.

Volunteer Ministers responded to the refugee crisis in Eastern Europe, with more than 17 million fleeing Ukraine, most of them taking refuge in nearby countries. Working in coordination with aid organizations, volunteers from across Europe including Italy, Hungary, Moldova, Slovakia and Germany raised donations and collected and transported urgently needed supplies, provided transportation to temporary quarters, worked at distribution points and manned shelters.

More than 3,000 miles away in Pakistan, Volunteer Ministers mobilized to respond to catastrophic floods that left a third of the country submerged. Thousands were stranded without access to first aid or needed medical care. To help remedy this, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers organized teams of doctors and nurses who traveled to remote regions and provided care. They also brought food, water and other emergency supplies.

More than 700 Volunteer Ministers responded to the devastation of the 150-mph winds and 13-foot storm surge of Hurricane Ian. Teams cut down damaged trees, providing access to communities cut off by the storm's destruction, helped locate valuables, shored up and protected homes and worked on the arduous muck out and cleanup of homes that could be salvaged. Others manned temporary shelters, and organized and distributed water, food, hygiene and baby supplies, and other urgently needed items.

Wherever they go, Volunteer Ministers care for the emotional and spiritual needs of the victims. They help them prevail over loss and grief, regroup, and confront the future. They use Scientology assists, techniques developed by humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard that address the emotional and spiritual factors in stress and trauma. And they share the Scientology Tools for Life, a series of online films and courses that train people in skills they can use to help others overcome the difficulties they are faced with in the aftermath of disaster.

The Church of Scientology Volunteer Ministers program is a religious social service created in the mid-1970s by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard. It constitutes one of the world's largest independent relief forces. Scientology ecclesiastical leader Mr. David Miscavige, calling on Scientologists to use what they know to redouble their efforts to aid their fellow man, has inspired tremendous growth in the Volunteer Ministers movement.

A Volunteer Minister's mandate is to be "a person who helps his fellow man on a volunteer basis by restoring purpose, truth and spiritual values to the lives of others." Their creed: "A Volunteer Minister does not shut his eyes to the pain, evil and injustice of existence. Rather, he is trained to handle these things and help others achieve relief from them and new personal strength as well."

Their motto is no matter the circumstances, "Something can be done about it."

For more information on the technology used by the Volunteer Minister, watch Scientology Tools for Life on the Scientology Network at DIRECTV 320 or at www.Scientology.tv.

IMPACT AZ 2025 Keys in on Supplier Diversity Readiness to Close Racial Wealth Gap for Black-owned Businesses

PHOENIX, Ariz. /ScoopCloud/ -- Designed to make an impact for Black-owned businesses in the new year and beyond, IMPACT AZ 2025 focuses on supplier diversity readiness to close the racial wealth gap for diverse business owners. The Millionaire Mastermind Academy program is accepting applications from serious entrepreneurs interested in a solutions-driven accelerator program that will help them grow business with corporations, expand customer discovery and market validation, and enhance financial management and business development, Thinkzilla Consulting Group announced today.

IMPACT AZ 2025 is the first direct response to the State of Black Business Report, which highlighted both the financial gaps in this community as well as the opportunity: The Black community is fastest-growing demographic in Arizona, with 33% growth from 2010 to 2020. The nine-month program is a collaboration between the Millionaire Mastermind Academy, a leading nonprofit organization that has mentored more than 8,000 diverse women entrepreneurs while addressing barriers to economic mobility, in conjunction with the Arizona Black Chamber of Commerce.

"While Arizona continues to grow its commitment to diverse business ownership, institutional barriers to success such as lack of access to capital and quality business trainings are still a reality. That's what we're here to change," said Dr. Velma Trayham, founder of the Millionaire Mastermind Academy. "This unique program invites more voices to the table and more support in developing and realizing entrepreneurial goals."

Applications opened Jan. 10 with a deadline of March 15. The initial accelerator program will kick off April 24. The Millionaire Mastermind Academy's Scottsdale, office, located at Arizona State University's Skysong 3, will provide a physical space for entrepreneurs to meet with mentors and corporations part of the Supplier Diversity program. The space will also support collaboration, networking opportunities and round table discussions for business growth.

By 2025, the initiative aims to expose more than 25,000 individuals to entrepreneurship opportunity and education, a minimum of 50 businesses awarded contracts with companies for supplier diversity while empowering more than 200 new businesses to launch and more than 500 established businesses to grow their employee base. IMPACT AZ 2025 is targeting the food service, real estate, beauty/fashion, technology, professional services, retail and trade, and manufacturing industries.

"For Arizona to thrive, attract industries, and be a place people want to live, work and raise their families, we cannot afford - financially or morally - to leave anyone out. This is not about helping one group at the expense of another. We must continue to make intentional, targeted investments of political, social and business capital to aid in our priority to building a better ecosystem for Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. It is a matter of good business which creates greater opportunities for all Arizonans," noted Teniqua Broughton, Executive Director, State of Black Arizona.

"Breaking down barriers and helping Black business owners overcome obstacles to entrepreneurship, we are creating meaningful economic opportunity through the power of supplier diversity programs, which are more critical than ever to businesses of all sizes," Robin Reed, CEO of Black Chamber of Arizona added.

The Millionaire Mastermind Academy expanded to Arizona two years ago and has helped minority women nationwide gain the entrepreneurial resources needed to succeed in business, while awarding more than $200,000 in scholarships and more than $50,000 in seed funding. The program also offers a Real Estate Accelerator Program to help minority women create diversity in the real estate industry.

Corporations interested in supporting IMPACT AZ 2025 to develop a ready-made pipeline of diverse suppliers can contact info@impactaz2025.com or call 888-508-1145. Sponsors will be announced shortly.

About The State of Black Arizona

The State of Black Arizona is the leader in the production, synthesis and socialization of actionable data and insights for all Arizonans with a primary focus on the Black community. GridBright® upgrades Oracle Network Management System (NMS) at Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative (MCEC), underscoring the repeatability of GridBright’s NMS Configuration for Cooperatives

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- MCEC, an early adopter of Oracle Network Management Systems (NMS), undertook a major NMS upgrade and re-integration with core operational systems with both standard configuration and custom integration modifications to enable the efficient operations of an ever-increasing complex electric grid. GridBright, in its upgrade of Oracle NMS at MCEC, further leveraged its proven NMS Configuration for COOPS that incorporates industry best practices from over thirty utility implementations.

As a result, GridBright implemented Oracle NMS and associated integrations at MCEC in about nine months utilizing the GridBright COOP configuration.

"The GridBright team has done an excellent job. The Oracle NMS Coop configuration designed and implemented by GridBright is working great for our operations group," said MCEC project manager Gail Campbell.

"We expect utilities focus on network management systems upgrades and new implementations to increase because of the need to integrate renewables and manage increasingly costly grid threats such as cyber-attacks and natural disasters. Accelerating this will be the substantial amount of funding available from Government sources as the Nation significantly increases investment in the electric grid for sustainability and resilience," said GridBright Executive Vice President Tom Servas.

"GridBright's NMS Configuration for COOPS helps utilities implement grid improvements with both faster time to value and lower implementation costs," Servas added.

In 2022 there have been 15 weather/climate disaster events with losses exceeding $1 billion each to affect the United States, according to NOAA. Additionally, the US government plans to invest over $16 billion in energy infrastructure to build a 21st-century electrical grid in the coming years.

About GridBright®:

Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association kicks off 2023 with new logo, branding

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association (MMLA), the only Michigan-based association dedicated solely to the housing finance industry, unveiled an updated logo and brand identity for 2023. The brand refresh aligns with the organization's new purpose and direction as the connection point, legislative voice and educational resource for Michigan's real estate finance economy.

In 2022, the MMLA added 270 individual members, 16 corporate partner companies and three chapter partners to its membership rolls. To support its mission and members, the organization:

* Hosted 45 events around the state, including in-person breakfasts, luncheons, seminars and social events;

* Offered numerous free webinars on educational topics and current issues;

* Expanded its board of directors; and

* Launched an in-depth course for its young professionals and future leaders to learn all aspects of the mortgage industry.

On the legislative front, the MMLA continued to ensure Michigan mortgage professionals' concerns were heard within the state legislature through its non-partisan political action committee MORBANPAC and its long-standing relationship with Karoub Associates, Michigan's longest-serving multi-client lobbying firm.

TMC Emerging Technology Fund LP Invests in TRAiNED

SAN DIEGO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Mortgage Collaborative (TMC), the nation's largest independent cooperative network serving the mortgage industry, announced today that the TMC Emerging Technology Fund LP (the "Fund") recently participated in a $1 million Simple Agreement for Future Equity (SAFE) funding round for TRAiNED, Inc.

TRAiNED was founded in December 2021 with a mission to reduce costs, increase efficiency and even out the boom-and-bust cycles in the mortgage industry. Its flagship product, Mortgage Origination Responsible Intelligence (MORI) is designed to be a self-service system for automating steps within the labor-intensive mortgage origination workflow. The system leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) data models in a secure environment to process documents and generate normalized and valid data for return to the lender's loan origination system (LOS).

MORI has recently completed alpha and beta testing and is already showing success providing clients with an average of 15 hours saved every week. TRAiNED is updating the AI and adding functionality to the MORI platform on a regular basis to provide even greater industry efficiencies. The company also offers the ability to augment staffing needs with data labeling and document indexing services.

"The limited partner's investment in TRAiNED is a testament to the need for our solution. The fact that my peers on the fund have also signed client relationship agreements is extremely helpful in TRAiNED's development. There are great things to come, and I am grateful for TMC's Tech Fund in taking this journey with me," said Jonathan Freed, CEO of TRAiNED, Inc.

TRAiNED is a partnership between enterprise-level AI company Inpleo, mid-sized independent mortgage lender Success Mortgage Partners and Freed, a former owner of a mid-sized independent mortgage lender and operating partner of TMC's Emerging Tech Fund. The three partners bring together technology and experience to move the mortgage and other paperwork-heavy industries toward adoption of meaningful, productive and cost-efficient automation.

"Success Mortgage Partners, Inc is thrilled to participate in this investment," said Owen Lee, CEO of Success Mortgage Partners, Inc and TMC Emerging Tech Fund Council Member. "What TRAiNED brings to the table is technology that saves time and conserves resources by automating 'back end' mortgage processes that are endlessly repetitive and traditionally executed by personnel. With TRAiNED, these tasks can now be automated with a superior rate of accuracy, saving mortgage lenders time and money on every single file, which compounds over time and number of files."

The Limited Partners of the TMC Emerging Technology Fund consist of some of the most technology-forward lender members of TMC who evaluate and invest in companies looking to advance the mortgage industry. The Fund continues to look for investment opportunities that will result in higher profitability and business process improvement for TMC lender members.
