New Children’s Book Opens Door for Dialogue About Grief and Death

ATLANTA, Ga. /ScoopCloud/ -- When Bryson Thompson, Sr.'s mother passed away from stomach cancer in 2016, he grappled with how to tell his 3-year old son that he would never see his beloved grandmother again. It was this life-changing event that sparked him to write, "How Angels are Made" (ISBN: 978-1735023809).

Thompson wrote the first version only two days after returning from his mother's funeral when it became apparent that his son needed more answers than he was readily able to give. His son was confused and grieving and needed help to work through this trying time which turned the world he knew upside down.

Bryson focused his energy to create a book that would help him and his family to clearly communicate with their son about grief and death. He quickly realized that if this book could help his family to heal, it could help others too. He also saw a need for a book that focused on an African-American family.

"There are very few books on the subject where African Americans are at the center," he says.

Based on a true story about the bond between Bryson's son and mother, "How Angels are Made" is a transformational children's book that fosters needed conversations between youth and adults about grief and death. It highlights actual conversations that took place between he, his wife and their son.

In the beginning, the book highlights their personal relationship and then moves into the family's experience of dealing with loss.

Bryson exceeded his Kickstarter campaign goal with one week left, which ironically happened the day before his mother's birthday, and plans to end the campaign, which is now in its "stretch goal" and appropriately scheduled to end on Mother's Day. The additional funds will allow Bryson to provide even more free copies of the book to local schools, libraries and children who have lost a loved one or friend, than originally anticipated.

"With one in five youth currently having to deal with the death of someone close to them by the time they are 19, 'How Angels are Made' will resonate with many families around the world," Bryson says. "It's also ideal for schools, therapists, church groups and more. My hope is that this book will be a tool to help change lives."

Bank of Southern California, N.A. Announces Q1 2020 Results and Response to Pandemic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Bank of Southern California, N.A. (OTC Pink: BCAL) today reported results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2020. Total assets increased to $852 million at March 31, 2020, up from $830 million in the prior quarter and an increase of 10.8% compared to March 31, 2019. Total loans increased to $683 million and total deposits increased to $689 million from $629 million and $636 million, respectively, at March 31, 2019. Net income for the quarter ended March 31, 2020, was $1.91 million, compared to $1.64 million in Q4 2019 and $1.85 million in Q1 2019.

First Quarter 2020 Highlights
* Q1 2020 on track as Bank responds to pandemic
* Reorganization into Southern California Bancorp approved by shareholders
* CalWest Bancorp acquisition closing in Q2, pending shareholder approval

Nathan Rogge, President and CEO of Bank of Southern California said, "While we are pleased with our first quarter results, we are more focused on the current environment and supporting small businesses and communities impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) while remaining financially strong and positioning for growth." The Banks' focus on small business is reflected in first quarter results in C&I lending, which is up 19% in outstandings compared to the first quarter of the prior year, and also in undisbursed C&I commitments, which increased 25% during the same period. Non-interest bearing demand deposits, another reflection of our small business focus, have increased 26% compared to the first quarter of 2019.

"As we navigate these unique times, we remain committed to executing upon our strategic plan and supporting Southern California's business community. Most recently, we were able to assist customers and non-customers in obtaining critical funding in response to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). By the end of the first round, we helped over 900 local businesses secure PPP loans, thus providing over 35,000 jobs" concluded Rogge. The Bank also remains focused on our strategic merger with CalWest Bank, which will provide an expanded branch presence covering Orange County and the Inland Empire and well as operational synergies so we may better serve the business community.

John Farkash, Chairman of the Board said, "Aside from the solid first quarter results, I am proud of the impact our Bank has made in supporting small businesses and helping to restore our local economies. We look forward to growing our relationships with these new businesses as we look ahead and recover from this pandemic."

Additional Financial Highlights and Response to the Pandemic
With the onset of the world-wide coronavirus pandemic in the middle of March, Bank of Southern California has been taking measures to closely monitor its loan portfolio, operations, liquidity and capital resources while actively working to minimize the current and future impact of this unprecedented situation. While the full impact of the pandemic is not known at this time, the following highlights pertinent information in the Bank's response.
* Operations - While all branch offices remain operational, for the safety of our employees and customers, our branch offices have reduced hours and we highly encourage drive-through, where available, remote banking, and internet banking. We have installed protective shields at service areas and social distancing protocols have been implemented.
* Capital resources - The Bank closed a private placement of common stock in December 2019 in connection with its pending acquisition of CALWest Bancorp. The Bank's capital ratios at March 31, 2020 - 12.5% tier 1 leverage ratio and 16.5% total risk-based capital - are considered very strong and the Bank will remain "well-capitalized" after closing the pending merger.
* Liquidity - The Bank has sufficient liquidity resources to meet its customer's needs. In addition to balance sheet liquidity of over 10% of assets, the Bank has access to liquidity facilities from other banks, including the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, at which the Bank has over $100 million available borrowing capacity at March 31, 2020.
* Loan Portfolio - While nonperforming loans continue to be low as of March 31, 2020, which is consistent with prior quarters, the Bank has been working to assist its credit customers and minimize the Bank's exposure to potential loss given the current environment. Following is certain information and actions which have been taken regarding the Bank's credit portfolio.
o Risk Portfolio - The Bank's exposure to certain high-risk industries follows:

IndustryBalanceNumber
Hospitality (hotel/motel)$17,400,0005
Restaurant and food service15,000,00033
Oil and Gas00
Total$32,400,00038

o Since the end of March, the Bank has been actively engaging with its customers to maintain relationships and provide a bridge to economic recovery. The Bank has worked with the SBA to secure payment relief for dozens of SBA loan customers. Furthermore, the Bank has received and is granting numerous deferment requests for 3 to 6-month periods to assist borrowers during the economic slowdown.
* The CARES Act Payroll Protection Program ("PPP") - The Bank's focused efforts on assisting small businesses with obtaining PPP loans resulted in over 900 loans approved by the SBA for over $350 million and related loan fees of over $9 million (to be accreted over the term of the loan). This extraordinary effort has secured existing customers and created strong goodwill with new customers and in the community as the Bank continues to support small business during the second round of PPP, which is currently underway.

Jocelyn Keegan Selected for New HITAC Task Force Focused on Intersection of Clinical and Administrative Data (ICAD)

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- Today, Point-of-Care Partners announced the appointment of Jocelyn Keegan to the Intersection of Clinical and Administrative Data (ICAD) Task Force. ICAD was formed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology-administered Health Information Technology Advisory Committee (HITAC).

The ICAD was created to advance the merging of clinical and administrative data. The task force will focus its initial efforts on advancing industry use of electronic prior authorization (ePA), supporting work underway and leveraging existing information from HITAC and the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics' (NCVHS) prior authorization hearings.

Keegan, a senior health information technology consultant with Point-of-Care Partners (POCP), is a Task Group lead of Pharmacy ePA at the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP), former Task Group lead of Specialty Pharmacy Benefit Identification at NCPDP and leads POCP's team in support of ONC FAST (FHIR at Scale Taskforce). Her work cuts across key regulatory and standards organizations; Health Level Seven International (HL7(R)), X12, NCPDP, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and ONC. She currently serves as Program Manager for HL7 Da Vinci, a Payer/Provider led initiative to leverage HL7 FHIR(R) to exchange critical data required for Value Based Care contracts.

"It is critical to bring together industry investment in both clinical and administrative transactions. ICAD will serve a vital role in addressing gaps that exist due to the diverse standards and systems in play across pharmacy and medical prior authorization. As one of the only people in health IT with hands-on involvement in the rollout of new prior authorization tools across all major standards, Jocelyn is uniquely qualified to help ICAD bring together disparate clinical and administrative data sets," said Tony Schueth, CEO and Managing Partner of Point-of-Care Partners.

Keegan adds, "We are at an inflection point with the industry's move to value-based care and the evolution of available standards to create transparency and synthesize payer/provider data exchange to remove, reduce and streamline complex, often burdensome workflows like those that exist today for prior authorizations. I look forward to helping to drive forward industry and contribute to ICAD's mission in a meaningful way."

ICAD's goal is to produce information and considerations related to the merging of clinical and administrative data, its transport structures, and rules and protections for ePA. The task force's initial recommendations are expected to be issued this fall. Weekly meeting materials and transcripts are available on HealthIT.gov - https://www.healthit.gov/hitac/meetings/2781.

The Only COVID-19 Initiative that Brings Self-Care to Frontliners While in Action

SACRAMENTO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- On National Nurses Day, the Sufi Psychology Association ("SPA"), through its "Caring for Our Caregivers" COVID-19 initiative, will provide direct access to hours of self-care and meditation programs to help bring solace to healthcare professionals fighting on the frontlines of this pandemic. The tablets that carry these much needed programs will be donated to hospitals across eight states including California and Illinois.

The Caring for Our Caregivers initiative gives these frontline heroes access to stress relieving techniques. The program donates disposable headsets and tablets, pre-loaded with meditation, visualization, deep breathing, and other stress reducing videos to hospitals so that healthcare professionals can access the tools they need during these trying times. Currently, the program has an extensive and growing waitlist of hospitals. Therefore, they are asking for donations of tablets and/or disposable headsets to help facilitate the demand.

The initiative was started because, "Burnout is a serious problem. It affects you physically, psychologically, socially, and spiritually. It was already on the rise for healthcare workers pre-COVID and these workers are known for putting others first and their own needs last (if at all)," says Sufi Psychology Association founder, Dr. Lynn Wilcox. "Now, as they are working tirelessly to protect us, the Sufi Psychology Association wants to make sure they have the tools to take care of themselves as well, and aren't left drained and with a slew of other issues post-COVID."

The Sufi Psychology Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that focuses on utilizing the principles of Sufism in Psychology.

Costa Dentistry Responds to Pandemic with Advanced Safety Protocols

BRAMBLETON, Va. /ScoopCloud/ -- Costa Dentistry is re-opening our doors on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 after implementing strict new safety protocols and state of the art technology.

Our award-winning dental practice was closed for more than six weeks after Virginia Governor Ralph Northam shut down non-essential businesses. Now that Gov. Northam has given dentists the green-light to re-open, Costa Dentistry is sparing no expense to set the tone for other businesses and to protect our staff and patients.

All Costa Dentistry employees were tested for COVID-19 before returning to work and each location was equipped with FDA approved, NASA endorsed Air Scrubber filters directly into the HVAC ducts. AirDoctor standalone air filters were placed in every room of the practice and a new piece of suctioning equipment called Isolite will be used on all patients to reduce over 90% of airborne dental aerosols.

Patients will be asked to check-in for their appointments through a "curbside waiting room" where they will remain in their car until they are ready to be escorted to their treatment suite. Hand sanitizer and a prescription mouth rinse will be required before any appointment can begin.

Dr. Shane Costa, owner of Costa Dentistry stated "We have taken every possible precaution to ensure that we are providing a safe space for dental care. No stone was left unturned when we created our new safety protocols."

Costa Dentistry is an award-winning, patient-focused dental practice in Brambleton and Great Falls, Virginia. Learn more at: https://www.costasmiles.com/

Dr. Kawa of Discover Chiropractic Announces Revolutionary Technology

BRICK, N.J. /ScoopCloud/ -- Dr. Kawa, a local chiropractor serving his community for the last 29 years, would like to announce that his office has recently incorporated the use of the Sigma G2 computerized spinal analysis and adjusting instrument.

Spine related pain conditions continue to be some of the costliest conditions in the U.S. In fact, according to a Journal of the American Medical Association report, low back and neck pain are the 3rd most costly conditions resulting in almost $90 billion in healthcare expenditures.

Dr. Kawa, one of Brick's top rated chiropractors, believes that this instrument is essential to the function-based chiropractic approach. Discover Chiropractic is not only dedicated to making their patients feel great, but also getting to the source of your condition. The Sigma G2 will play a big role in correcting spinal disfunction.

The Sigma G2 is an adjustment instrument that percusses through various points in the body and alerts your natural response systems to disfunction in that area. Your body can react and begin to correct any misalignment or malfunction in that targeted area.

According to Dr. Christopher Kawa, a chiropractor in Brick, N.J. for 29 years, "The reason chiropractic is so effective is that before patients are given exercises and stretches, chiropractors work to ensure that all the joints in their patient's spines are moving correctly. This is something that physical therapists are not trained to do."

In fact, says Dr. Kawa, "Chiropractors are experts in restoring proper motion patterns in the spine 'first,' so that the nervous system can then change the way it's 'holding' the body in alignment. This is crucial to long-term healing and thus reducing costs of care. The revolutionary Sigma G2 is here to help treat the people of Brick."

About Discover Chiropractic:

Dr. Kawa founded Discover Chiropractic in 1992 right in the heart of his hometown Brick, New Jersey. Dr. Kawa and his team have been providing patients with careful and precise treatment and their core philosophy is to help people live happier and healthier lives. Certain Lending Launches Major Survey of Real Estate Investors

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Certain Lending released a national survey of real estate investors. A majority of real estate investors expect COVID-19 will cause home prices to decline up to 20%.

The survey of 569 real estate investors across the U.S., conducted between April 20 and 24, is the first of its kind to report how real estate investors believe COVID-19 will impact the U.S. economy, housing markets, and mortgage credit. The full survey is available at https://medium.com/certainlending.

"Non-institutional real estate investors own and make a living from $7 trillion of real estate. They are an untapped source of insight about how events and forces shape the U.S. economy and housing market," said Shreyas Vijaykumar, cofounder and chief technology officer for Certain Lending. "We are excited to engage the community and report insightful findings about COVID-19's expected impacts."

The survey finds that relative to the 2009 recession, known as the U.S. housing crisis, half of real estate investors believe the impact of COVID-19 will be more severe for the U.S. national economy. Three quarters of real estate investors expect COVID-19 will cause home prices to decline, but the magnitude will be less severe than during the U.S. housing crisis. A majority expect home prices will decline up to 20% because of COVID-19.

According to the survey, approximately half of real estate investors expect it will be a good time to buy properties over the next six months with about as many planning to increase their personal investment in real estate over the time period. 90% of real estate investors believe the U.S. economy will rebound within 18 months.

With the weak economy and real estate cooling, a majority of real estate investors expect supply to increase across online realtor listings, off market channels, short sales, foreclosures, and distressed-property auction websites.

The survey finds 38% of real estate investors think it will be harder to get a loan, and 32% don't know if financing will be easier or harder in the next six months.

Added Charles McKinney, cofounder and chief executive officer of Certain, "With anxiety about the economy, freezing of the capital markets, and many commercial lenders pulling back, traditional ways of getting a loan has become more expensive and less likely. For lenders with the credit sophistication and software to efficiently underwrite and originate loans in the COVID-19 economy, there's a huge opportunity to consolidate market share."

About Certain Lending:

Certain Lending is a FinTech startup cofounded by Freddie Mac and Palantir Technologies alumni and backed by Founders Fund, 8VC, Goldcrest, XYZ, Village Global, and the LeFrak organization. With Certain Lending, real estate investors get tailored financing offers in one place and close loans in days, not weeks. For financial institutions, Certain creates favorable yield from business purpose mortgages fully underwritten, originated, and monitored by our software.

Champions of Southern Queer Visibility Announce Second Virtual Telethon

ATLANTA, Ga. /ScoopCloud/ -- Y'all ready for a second helping? Wussy Mag, Queer Appalachia, and Southern Fried Queer Pride, three powerhouse stewards of Southern and Appalachian queer culture, have teamed up again to bring you "The Big Ass Telethon to End Metronormativity: PART TWO." The livestream event celebrating rural queer artists will air on Saturday, May 30 at 5pm PDT/8pm EDT on Twitch at @endmetronormativity.

The first telethon, which aired April 25, was an overwhelming success, bringing in nearly 2,500 views (and counting) and raising nearly $10,000 in donations. The diverse line-up included celebrity guest appearances from Orville Peck, Whitney Cummings, Amanda Lepore, Bob the Drag Queen, Lance Bass, Fortune Feimster, Tammie Brown, Shamir, Lori Petty, Del Shores, CHRISTEENE, Deven Greene, and original Stonewall activist Miss Major.

Viewers can expect "The Big Ass Telethon to End Metronormativity: PART TWO" to offer an equally eclectic mix of southern-fried artistry. The first telethon showcased drag artists, singers, and performers from across the south including Tristan Scroggins, JayBella Banks, Davey Swinton, Ian Aber, The Paisley Fields, Zoe Boekbinder, Libbaloops, Hannah Mayree, Julian Modugno, and Miss He. Atlanta-based drag performers Brigitte Bidet and Ella/Saurus/Rex will return to co-host the livestream event.

Organizers of the telethon aim to not only support southern artists impacted by COVID-19, but also to raise awareness of the problems that metronormativity pose to rural queer visibility. Metronormativity assumes that while rural and urban existences differ, urban queer life represents the "norm", often turning a blind eye to bigoted, stereotypical portrayals of rural culture.

Online applications for micro-grants and the second telethon opened on Friday, May 1. Artists and performers from all LGBTQ+ backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Proceeds from the event will go to performers and other rural community members in need of support. Ongoing donations are encouraged at @endmetronormativity on Venmo/Cash App or endmetronormativity@gmail.com on PayPal.

InstantPublisher Offers Quarantine Writing Advice and Book Self-Publishing Services Discount

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. /ScoopCloud/ -- According to 2002 study popularized by Joseph Epstein of the New York Times "81 percent of Americans feel that they have a book in them - and should write it." This equates to roughly 170 million adults over the age of 18 out of the entire United States population alone says InstantPublisher; a conservative number of potential authors. Maybe you are one of them.

During the unprecedented COVID-19 outbreak, many people have been impacted by the stay-at-home orders requested by state and national leaders, and many have had work hours cut severely, been laid off, or released from jobs completely all waiting for the COVID-19 crisis to pass. With these stay-at-home orders keeping many social and entertainment venues closed, many people find themselves with a lot of free time on their hands, and the "someday" that many of us have stated as the day we will find the time to write that book is "today."

But writing a book is just half of the battle. The next step is getting your book into the hands of readers. Many authors long to get a lucrative book deal from one of the Big 5 book publishers such as Hachette, HarperCollins, Macmillan, Penguin Random House, and Simon & Schuster, but landing a publishing contract with one of these companies is highly competitive and takes a lot of time and rejection before you find success. This leaves many authors looking for an alternative way of getting their books into print-an alternative way such as using a self-publishing book printing company.

And according to Chris Bradley, President of InstantPublisher, "The COVID-19 outbreak has also unleashed incredible demand-and corresponding sales-for cookbooks, self-improvement books, and binge-worthy novel series, just to name a few."

So, how do you, as a potential author, take advantage of this demand? Write that book now and get it in the hands of a high-quality self-publishing book printing company such as InstantPublisher.

To help potential authors reach the goal of seeing their creative works in print, InstantPublisher is offering a limited-time 10% discount for first-time customers on any book publishing package if the order has been placed by July 1, 2020. Use the coupon code: print-2020. We also will be running a series of blog posts over the next 3 months dedicated to guiding the author along the writing process and educating them about the numerous benefits of self-publishing your own books.

"We really want to encourage potential authors during this difficult time. Helping them get those books written and into print as fast as possible," states Bradley. "InstantPublisher has printed over 11 million books since our start in 2001, and hopes to help authors achieve their self-publishing dreams, and help create something positive out of this crisis."

Recently branded as Solitude Solution, the platform's eClosing capabilities allow lenders and borrowers to execute loans digitally.

"IDS has always taken pride in our ability to anticipate our clients' needs, and our response to their urgent need for eClosing and eMortgage technology in the current climate has been no different," said IDS Vice President and General Manager Mark Mackey. "Our customers are already familiar with our easy-to-use eSign platform, and with our eNote capabilities, customers have the ability to digitally deliver a mortgage. As the mortgage industry strives to continue offering borrowers the ability to move forward in the loan process throughout these troubled times, IDS is proud to be part of the solution."

"With so many variances regarding digital mortgage acceptance across investors, state regulators and other levels, flexibility is a crucial element to any digital mortgage platform," Mackey added. "Solitude Solution was built to ensure that lenders have the latitude to execute their loans as digitally as possible so that they may reap the benefits of a digitally-driven process and provide consistent, reliable service to their borrowers and closing partners."

Historic Ironworks Factory Creates Products that Protect in Face of Pandemic

COLUMBUS, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- A third-generation, family-owned and operated ornamental iron and metal fabrication company, Fortin Ironworks, is stepping up to create new products driven by a surge in consumer safety. These American-made products are destined to be an integral part of the "new normal."

Manufacturing products designed to keep people safe is not a new concept for Fortin Ironworks. In fact, it's been doing it for nearly 75 years with specialized items such as decorative handrails, fencing and gates. But now with the recent COVID-19 pandemic, like so many other businesses, it's getting requests for new ways of doing things.

"Our historic old company has been asked to produce more consumer safety products," Robert Fortin, product developer, says. "Specifically, 'new norm' products that will soon be popping up everywhere."

Fortin Ironworks has now added foot pulls, touchless keys and mask brackets to its product lineup. The company is equipped with high-tech laser machines which can create beautifully engraved, custom pieces that not only look good, but can help businesses with branding and create that personal touch (or touchless) experience for individuals who enjoy artisan creations too.

These new foot pulls and touchless keys are designed to limit the number of items that people have to touch on a daily basis. Foot pulls are easy to install, touchless keys are easy to use and eye-catching face mask brackets ensure that people are not just another face in the crowd.

"We can engrave just about anything on these foot pulls, touchless keys and mask brackets from logos and names to school mascot images and many organizations are asking for that," Fortin says.

Foot pulls are ideal for hospitals, schools, restaurants and factories - basically anywhere there are high numbers of people.

"It's a new world out there and we plan to be part of it for years to come," Fortin says. "We want our consumers to move into the future with confidence and are committed to our mission to protect."

Bob Karney pledges $25,000 to biker families affected by COVID-19

CHARLOTTE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- Bob Karney, a motorcycle accident attorney, donated $25,000 directly to biker families in need, The Karney Law Firm announced today. The requests poured in and over 80 families received immediate aid.

Bob Karney, a strong supporter of the motorcycle community, witnessed firsthand how people's lives were being upended by COVID-19. With overloaded governments offering limited support, he refused to stand by and watch people struggle.

"It's up to us, our biker community, to support each other until this difficult time passes," stated Karney. He created an initiative called "Bulldog Backs Bikers" and offered financial assistance to motorcyclists in his community.

Requests were submitted by filling out a simple form on the website and donations were limited to $200 for individuals and $500 for families with children on a first come, first served basis. "I've always told you I have your back and I meant it," stated Karney.

About Karney Law Firm:

Current Builders Announces New Florida West Coast Residential Project

SARASOTA, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- Current Builders (currentbuilders.com) today announced they have been selected as the general contractor for the Gallery 3100 residential project in St. Petersburg, Florida. The $20 million, 122-unit residential project is being developed by Mosaic at Grand Central and the architectural firm is Baker Barrios.

Current Builders will be utilizing a signature concrete design innovation on the project's 4-story parking garage. They have also developed a special community relationship to overcome a space-challenged construction site. This is the award-wining construction firm's first project on the west coast in many years. As part of their strategic expansion plan, they recently opened an office in Sarasota.

"We are honored that our first new project in this region is with the Mosaic Development Group," said Chip Angenendt, VP West Coast Division. "The three primary contacts for Mosaic, Roxanne Amoroso, Marc Mariano and Terry Wayland lead an outstanding, knowledgeable team with a dynamic vision for this inspired rental community."

The appropriately named development will feature an art gallery space in the amenity area showcasing the works of the Duncan McClellan Gallery; enhancing the reputation of this vibrant cultural city.

The project is expected to begin concrete foundations in June; however, launching the construction plan proved challenging due to tight site constraints, but Current Builders devised a solution that demonstrates their renowned community spirit.

"This project runs property line to property line; leaving no room on the site for a construction trailer or a place for our parking and laydown areas," explained Angenendt. "So, we reached out to the First Baptist International Church of St Petersburg, which owns an unused building in need of significant repair adjacent to the site and offered to transform it into a multipurpose center/office in exchange for using their property for our construction needs."

This win-win alliance is just the beginning according to Angenendt. "Giving back is in Current Builders' DNA, and we are looking forward to becoming an active part of the community through a variety of programs."

Innovation is also part of Current Builders' DNA. This is the third project to employ the firm's recently unveiled garage building system, which was developed by Mike Gillette, Vice President of CB Structures. This innovative shoring technique is an alternative to precast and post tension garages; reducing the build time by almost 25%.

The system consists of a 60,000-pound column mounted jack supported by wide flange W beams. This system eliminates the need for re-shoring under the beams which reduces costs and time, and additionally provides a 7-foot working table for iron workers and carpenters. Gillette's innovation has been used very successfully on several Current Builder's projects in Boca Raton.

Current Builders looks forward to announcing new projects on both coasts, and the team is thrilled to have a dedicated west coast office and project teams in place.

"Years ago, we built several projects on the west coast," said Angenendt. "But with this newly established office in Sarasota, we can truly become part of the community and realize Current Builders' mission in this region."

For more information please visit https://www.currentbuilders.com/

Current Builders is an award-winning general contractor, established in 1972 with average annual revenues in excess of $250 million. The firm specializes in multi-family residential projects, healthcare facilities, office/warehouse buildings, commercial distribution facilities, parking garages, interior build-outs, interior and exterior renovations, all included as turnkey projects inclusive of the construction of the buildings and related site work.

Fighting COVID-19 with Smart Elevators that Automatically Disinfect when Empty

NEW YORK, N.Y. /ScoopCloud/ -- Ashla Systems announced today the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic has industries searching for answers on what technology can help in the fight against contamination. Many groups are starting to focus on a system that has been tried and tested for over 70 years; UV-C light which has been proven to kill the virus after just 10 minutes of contact.

UV-C lights harness the power of the sun and disinfect by disrupting the molecular bonds that hold together microbial genetic material or proteins. Ultra Violet light has been used extensively for more than 40 years in disinfecting drinking water, waste water and hospitals against hundreds of bacteria and viruses including COVID-19 related viruses - SARS-COV-1 and MERS-COV.

Companies are emerging around the globe developing new technologies using UV-C lights to help kill the virus. There have already been huge breakthroughs including UV-C robots that can disinfect rooms and airplanes in short periods and tunnels that buses can drive through to be contaminant free.

Ashla Systems Is focusing on one of the most crucial points in all buildings, elevators. In the US each year elevators make 18 billion passenger trips and each elevator carries an average of 20,000 passengers per year. Elevators carry 40 times more bacteria than public toilet seats according to a study by the University of Arizona. This alarming fact is pushing building owners and hotels across the world to develop safe and secure methods for keeping elevators clean.

According to scientists, after someone sneezes, coughs or speaks loudly the coronavirus could remain airborne for up to 3 hours. The virus lives on metal and plastic for up to 3 days. Elevators are so vital to movement of people in a building they can be a major weak point in a landlord's strategy to keep their buildings safe.

Ashla is leading the way with smart elevators designed to sense when they are empty of passengers and use the full power of installed UV-C lights to completely kill viruses and bacteria like coronavirus, influenza and 100s of others in the air and all surfaces.

"Ashla is racing to fulfill tremendous demand for this product in elevators. Landlords are calling from all around the world to get us to install these systems as fast as possible in their elevators. We are working as hard as we can," according to Paul Smith from Ashla Systems.

This demand is no surprise as According to the Director of CDC Dr. Robert Redfield, "For decades, collectively, our nation's under-invested in public health... Now is the time for us to over-invest in public health. This virus is going to be with us."

A recent study conducted by Ohio State University suggests that even organized efforts to clean surfaces can fall short, requiring extra cleaning to be done on a daily basis, especially to fight the spread of coronavirus disease. Only 50% of surfaces cleaned are properly disinfected.

Mr. Smith goes on to say, "Many companies are pushing their cleaning crews to the max, and labor can only produce so much. Landlords are asking their staff to clean elevators every 15 minutes. It's just not a realistic strategy. Cleaning products and spraying in the air can cause harm to humans in enclosed environments such as elevators and are not good for long term use."

About: Ashla Systems designs, installs and helps maintain UV-C light systems in elevators. The light system is installed inside the elevators and activated when the infrared system detects no human presence inside. Sweeping the area with penetrating UV rays and killing all virus and bacteria inside both airborne and on surfaces. The system needs to only run for 10-15 min intervals.

Nuclear to Play Vital Role in Innovating Virginia’s Carbon-Free Future

ARLINGTON, Va. /ScoopCloud/ -- Innovations in nuclear energy will play a vital role in reaching Virginia's goal to be carbon-free by 2050 after Governor Ralph Northam signed legislation directing the state to work with industry to develop a strategic plan for the Commonwealth's nuclear industry. The bill, passed by the legislature in March, directs the government of the Commonwealth, through the Virginia Nuclear Energy Consortium Authority (VNECA), to work with industry stakeholders to develop a comprehensive plan for ensuring this carbon-free energy source continues its contribution to economic development and reducing greenhouse gases.

"The nuclear industry is a vital part of the Commonwealth's economy and the Lynchburg region," said State Senator Steve Newman, patron of SB 549. "The strategic plan will drive innovation to support and grow this vital resource for jobs and energy production in Virginia. I look forward to seeing the plan take shape and be put into action in the weeks and months ahead."

Delegate Chris Hurst, patron of HB 1303, added, "It is vital to the future of our Commonwealth that we continue to explore all opportunities for carbon-free energy, including nuclear. House Bill 1303 will allow Virginia to lead on environmental responsibility while remaining a national leader in nuclear energy, by encouraging research taking place at our outstanding universities and new economic development through advanced technology and manufacturing."

The legislation directs the Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy, the Secretaries of Commerce & Trade and Education, the VNECA, and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership Authority to work together to develop a strategic plan for nuclear energy. The plan will spur innovation in an industry already making significant contributions to emission-free energy by providing economic development opportunity, new avenues for education and jobs, and additions to Virginia's manufacturing base.

"We are excited that the legislature and Governor recognize the contribution made by the nuclear industry," said Tom DePonty, VNECA Chairman. "Last year Governor, Northam outlined an ambitious agenda for moving Virginia to 100 percent carbon-free energy by 2050. The strategic plan will help attract innovative new businesses that will help Virginia achieve its goals while helping grow our economy."

With a focus on promoting advanced nuclear technology opportunities for innovation, the plan will drive advanced manufacturing, establishment of a collaborative research center, and creation of a university nuclear leadership program to promote fields that meet the workforce demands of Virginia's nuclear industry.

"Across the country, developments in new reactor designs and fuel technology are leading a resurgence in advanced manufacturing and clean power generation," said April Wade, Executive Director of the Virginia Nuclear Energy Consortium, a group representing nuclear industry stakeholders and universities across the Commonwealth. "Congress has appropriated $1.5 billion for nuclear energy programs, including demonstration of technologies like small modular reactors. The strategic plan will enable Virginia to take advantage of opportunities like these and to demonstrate the Commonwealth's commitment to carbon-free generation, advanced manufacturing, expanded education and research opportunities, and other economic benefits."

About VNEC:

The Virginia Nuclear Energy Consortium (VNEC) established by Virginia statute in 2013 and created in 2015, seeks to facilitate, encourage and advance the nuclear industry in Virginia through collaboration among industry participants, colleges and universities and not-for-profits in areas of need and interest to its members.

Technology Breaks the Distance Learning Barrier for Disabled Students

MIAMI, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- Today Pneuma Solutions launched a free service that redefines the way students with special needs are provided instructional materials. Based on Pneuma's Augmented Document Remediation technology, Scribe for Education allows teachers in K-12 to upload image files to a secure cloud service that provides near real time conversion to a variety of text and audio formats like Braille, large print, and MP3 for use by disabled students. The service fills an essential gap as school districts flip from traditional classrooms to distance learning programs.

"Students with disabilities have trouble accessing printed school materials in a timely manner under the best of circumstances," says Mike Calvo, founder and CEO of Pneuma Solutions. "With so many of us teaching from home during the pandemic, technologies that convert documents into special formats need to be available with no need for complicated training. I want to use our technology in a way that ensures students with disabilities are not left behind no matter who is educating them."

Themselves blind individuals and trainers of the print impaired, Calvo and lead developer, Matt Campbell, understand the challenges teachers face in accommodating students with disabilities. Under this initiative, teachers and parents can trust the strength of the company's commercial product to help students with special needs keep pace in a way that is free, reliable, and intuitive using nothing more than a web browser.

"To the average person, access to the printed word is taken for granted," says Campbell. "By providing teachers direct access to our cloud-based tools, specially formatted materials can be reproduced, by the teacher or parent, for disabled students at the same time as their nondisabled peers. Scribe for Education can redefine the way they learn."

About Pneuma Solutions

Pneuma Solutions provides access to information for consumers with print disabilities. Using machine learning to render quality results, Pneuma Solutions delivers a package that is affordable and intuitive. With just a few clicks, organizations like educational facilities, municipalities, and businesses large and small across the globe can provide encrypted, accessible information to their print impaired employees and end users without human intervention.

Pledging 1,975 Meals and More to Mark 45 Years Since Refugees First Arrived in the US on April 30, 1975

WESTMINSTER, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Vietnamese Americans in Orange County's Little Saigon issued a "Nailing It For America" challenge to other Vietnamese communities throughout the country: Join the national day of giving back beginning Thursday, April 30 to help healthcare professionals and other front-line workers fighting the coronavirus (COVID-19).

So far, New York City, Boston, Dallas, San Jose, Salt Lake City and others have plans to deliver 1,975 meals and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Earlier this month, "Nailing It" volunteers collected and delivered more than 120,000 medical-grade masks and 300,000 gloves within 10 days for Southern California's healthcare professionals combatting COVID-19. Vietnamese restaurants also joined the cause, delivering 20,000 meals along with PPEs last Thursday.

After the shutdown of nonessential businesses across America, Advance Beauty College President Tam Nguyen and others mobilized the nail industry nationally to donate 1.2 million medical-grade masks, gloves and other PPEs in nearly every state to healthcare workers who desperately needed them. The group estimates the value of supplies is approximately $30 million.

Vietnamese Americans have transformed the nail industry thanks to the chance encounter of Tippi Hedren at Hope Village refugee camp in Northern California in 1975. After the visit, the star of "The Birds" flew her personal manicurist in weekly to teach the group of Vietnamese refugees the nail craft and even helped them secure nail salon jobs in Southern California.

Thursday marks a significant milestone for the nation's 2.1 million Americans of Vietnamese descent since the first wave of refugees from war-torn Vietnam reached America on April 30, 1975.

"Thursday is a special day to show our gratitude to America and to countless Americans like Tippi Hedren who embraced us and gave us a chance to rebuild our lives after the Fall of Saigon," Nguyen said. "It's also a day for the rise of the Vietnamese community in America to help front-line workers conquer COVID-19."

TherapyTopia Launches COVID-19 Thrive Campaign to Support Laid Off Americans

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- TherapyTopia is a social enterprise that offers "Workplace Mental Wellness Solutions." To address the needs of so many out-of-work Americans, the organization pivoted its business model to partner with companies and individuals to help provide free virtual mental health and career coaching services to Americans in a time when they need it most. TherapyTopia's goal is to help 1 million Americans re-enter the workforce through its COVID-19 Thrive Campaign.

To support this mission, the organization has designed a sponsorship structure that, at minimum, supports three types of individuals - a laid-off worker, a virtual therapist, and a support staff member - for six months.

"In essence, TherapyTopia's COVID-19 Thrive Campaign is creating two jobs (a virtual therapist and a support staff member) who are helping a third person to get back on their feet," Lequita Brooks, founder and CEO of TherapyTopia, says. "It's an all-round, win-win situation."

Brooks explains that TherapyTopia is fusing two services that don't typically go together - outplacement services and employee assistance programs, a solution she calls "Outplacement Mental Wellness Services."

"Like everyone else, we're evolving to meet new workplace demands in uncertain times," Brooks says. "Company sponsorships are the ideal way for businesses to help laid-off employees re-enter the workforce when the time is right."

There are different sponsorship levels available, but all of them will include six months of virtual coaching support via a HIPAA-compliant platform; unlimited text support; an individualized COVID-19 Thrive Plan; solution-focused strategies; and referrals for additional services as needed.

"There's really a way for any individual, philanthropist, or company to get involved," Brooks says. "There are volunteer positions, individual benefactors, and company sponsorship opportunities available."

Rittenhouse Appraisals Sees Resilience In Philadelphia Region’s Real Estate Market Despite Covid-19

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. /ScoopCloud/ -- The COVID-19 crisis could create opportunities for the Philadelphia region to thrive as a real estate market going forward, and buttress its reemergence as a center for business, according to an expert at Rittenhouse Appraisals.

The fundamentals that have driven a recent real estate boom, largely remain, said Carlo L. Batts, MAI, principal of the Center City-based firm, which provides market research for institutional and private investors. He said there is a demand for housing and services created by an influx of well-paying jobs in the medical and science fields, and those job sectors tend to remain strong.

Batts cited the West Philadelphia submarket, recently one of the area's hottest, as likely to power through the economic downturn, driven by demand in the multifamily and commercial sectors. There are tracts West Philadelphia that Batts said appear ripe for activity, such as the pocket between Market Street and Walnut Street that is zoned CMX-4, or mixed use. These tracts could attract high-density, high-rise development, he observed.

"The area is incubating into a primary office submarket and further expansion as a medical submarket and the research parks and medical research and science expansion is going to continue," Batts said. "Up until the shutdown, you had a consistent movement of new developments, whether it was the Schuylkill Yards development or out at 38th and Market, that were bringing an influx of new jobs."

Those jobs have largely tended to be medical related or scientific research positions, meaning they offer above average pay. That will fuel a demand for housing and services, which will drive the residential and commercial real estate development, Batts said.

Low interest rates will also impact liquidity, which could mean continued development in the medical research, medical office markets and in the multi-family market. "There is still a housing crisis in Philadelphia and in the region," Batts said. He suggested that, despite the implications of social distancing to slow the spread of the virus, people still want convenience in their lives. "I think it further solidifies the trend for urban living, but in a more integrated housing structure."

Batts predicted that some troubled projects won't be able to survive the disruption. "I think you are going to see some bad projects hit the market or go into foreclosure or banks start taking back more assets," he said. "You are going to see a lot of people think now is the time to dump assets that weren't performing anyway, just to get them off the books."

Batts said his firm will assist clients as they prepare for the post-crisis opportunities. "We service property owners and investors trying to maintain their assets and keep returns coming," he said. "There are a lot of projects in the works. Some will make sense. Some won't. We help clients understand the feasibility of those projects, now, and where there are opportunities to make them fit the current conditions."

Green Mountain College Campus Goes to Auction

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. /ScoopCloud/ -- Maltz Auctions, a premier full-service auction company serving the Continental United States and Caribbean, announced it will pursue buyers for the idyllic 155-acre Green Mountain College Campus, anchoring Main Street, in the Historic downtown of Poultney, Vermont.

"This quintessential New England campus had been the home of Green Mountain College, a private 4-year liberal arts school focused on environmental, social, and economic sustainability, which unfortunately closed at the end of 2019," stated Keith Lowey of Verdolino & Lowey, the Chief Restructuring Officer for Green Mountain College.

"It's truly a turn-key opportunity for the right buyer as it is comprised of classic New England dormitory buildings, classrooms, administrative offices, lecture halls, cafeteria, student center, community space, library building, athletic facilities - including fields, gymnasium, pool, and more, a 400-seat theater/auditorium, fine arts studios and galleries, a working farm, guest residences and a campus-wide wood-fueled biomass (carbon neutral) heating system."

Lowey added, "There are also financing options available for qualified buyers."

Maltz Auction's CEO, Richard Maltz shared, "This property auction includes furniture, fixtures and equipment of the school and represents an exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire an environmentally sustainable, green campus that is superbly located and beautifully maintained in a single transaction. There is incredible reuse or redevelopment potential, this is truly one of the most enchanting properties my firm has had the opportunity to market."

The Green Mountain Campus is in southern Vermont's beautiful lakes region, with the Adirondack Mountains to the west and the Green Mountains to the east. The 155-acre campus situated on the New York-Vermont border features classic red-brick and slate roof buildings, athletic fields, a working farm, hiking and bike trails, and much more.

The property sits at the intersection of College Street and Main Street in the heart of Poultney, a vibrant and quaint New England village of 3,400 residents, which has been recognized, along with 22 others in Vermont, as a historic downtown. Poultney is home to an extensive bike trail network as well as to Lake St. Catherine and Lake St. Catherine State Park, a 117-acre destination park, campground and nature center. Lake Bomoseen State Park is less than a 15-minute ride north of Poultney. Both the Killington and Okemo ski areas are less than an hour away.

The town of Poultney is located 'in the middle of everywhere', bordered by Ira & Middletown Springs to the east, Fair Haven and Castleton to the north, Hampton (NY) to the west, and Wells to the south. Poultney is approximately 80 miles southwest of Vermont's capital city (Montpelier), 70 miles south of Vermont's largest city (Burlington) and 65 miles west of the Vermont/New Hampshire border in White River Junction. Poultney is also proximate to Saratoga Springs (50 miles southwest of Poultney) and Albany (70 miles southwest of Poultney) in New York state.

In addition, great shopping, year-round recreational activities, skiing destinations (including Vermont's premier ski resort, Killington Mountain) and college towns including Burlington (VT), Bennington (VT), Middlebury (VT) and Queensbury (NY) are located nearby.

The closest city to Poultney is Rutland, Vermont, which is the largest town in Vermont after Burlington and South Burlington. The city of Rutland is located approximately 20 miles northeast of Poultney, or a 25-30-minute drive via Route 30 & Route 4. Rutland offers the Rutland Regional Medical Center as well as an eclectic mix of shopping, restaurants, bars, cafés as well as cultural and entertainment venues and attractions. The state of Vermont, known as the Green Mountain state, ranks as the healthiest and best-educated state in the country.

Local Texas Author Uses Quarantine to Finish Novel Early

LEAGUE CITY, Texas /ScoopCloud/ -- COVID-19 is keeping everyone at home and many people out of work. When Tim Frankovich's freelance work dried up, he turned to writing instead. Today, he announced publication of his second novel, "Until All Bonds Are Broken" (ISBN: 978-1733328524).

"I published my first novel last August, and had planned to release the second one a year later," Tim explained. "With all this extra time, I sped up the process. It's ready now!"

Growing up in Galveston County, Tim Frankovich was always interested in writing. At age 8 in Texas City, his mother showed him how to cut up a brown grocery sack to make a "book." He quickly drew a story of Godzilla fighting superheroes. Since then, he's gotten a little bit better at the writing part (not so much with the drawing).

Not long after that, Tim borrowed "The Lord Of The Rings" from the Texas City library and his lifelong love of epic fantasy took off. Today, he is proud that his own epic fantasy novels are being published.

"Until All Bonds Are Broken" is Tim's second book, the sequel to his debut novel, "Until All Curses Are Lifted" (ISBN: 978-1733328500). Set in the fantasy realm of Antises, the books tell the story of Marshal, a young man seeking to escape a curse he received for his father's crimes, and Seri, a young woman who is trying to find the cause of the land's failing magic. The books feature adventure, monsters, a lost king, walkers between worlds, a leper assassin, and a rusty old flail.

"Until All Bonds Are Broken" is available in ebook and paperback at amazon.com and wherever good books are sold! Paperback: $14.99. Ebook: $5.99.

Melita’s Table Delivers a Revolutionary Cinco De Mayo Feast

LAS VEGAS, Nev. /ScoopCloud/ -- Cinco de Mayo has become one of the most beloved and celebrated days of the year. Though many Nevadans will enjoy the historic date at home this year, there's no reason to avoid dancing, margaritas and an amazing vegan taco creation made special by Melita's Table.

In November 2019, veteran Vegas restauranteur Kori McClurg opened Melita's Table, a plant-based delivery and catering only kitchen concept. Las Vegas has happily embraced this healthy, all-natural Latin-based option.

To celebrate the success, and provide vegan delights for Cinco de Mayo, Melita's Table has created Butter Lettuce Shell Tacos. The new shells provide a zesty alternative to the flavorless iceberg lettuce wraps of old.

Try a revolutionary taco trend to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, which commemorates the 1862 Mexican military victory over the French forces of Napoleon III.

The new butter lettuce wraps provide plenty of space to pile on quinoa, lentil picadillo and marinated citrus portobello. The new taco design delivers all the flavor without the gluten or meat.

Melita's Table is not just for those with special dietary needs. We are here to provide all-natural Latin offerings to customers who crave Old World flavors fused with modern-day health options; including nut-free, soy free, gluten free, and oil free menu items.

Melita's Table is aimed at customers who demand meals that stress healthy ingredients and environmental sustainability.

"Amazing flavor is what we do," McClurg said. "We bring Old World wholesome foods right to your door."

Don't let this year's Cinco de Mayo go to waste with second-rate food. Think like a health-minded revolutionary. Go for the zest and zing with Butter Lettuce Shell Vegan Tacos loaded with juicy and flavorful citrus portobello, cucumber salsa, cilantro, guacamole and pico.

Our Butter Lettuce Shell Tacos are not just amazing, but they go perfectly with our incredible Tres Leches Cake. This traditional Latin treat comes saturated with a sweet frosting glaze. The cake is so good, you might not want to share. But in the spirit of May 5th, we're sure you will find a way.

All of our gluten-free and vegan offerings are available for delivery and pick-up through DoorDash, UberEats, Postmates and Grubhub.

Let's celebrate Cinco de Mayo together with the best and healthiest food since the revolution. Viva Cinco de Mayo and taco lovers everywhere.

Rarely does an opportunity come along that can positively touch on energy, water, air, soil, food, jobs, and education simultaneously. This one does."

Healthcare Executive SHEILA CHERFILUS-MCCORMICK, J.D. Qualifies for the August Democratic Primary against Incumbent Alcee Hastings

MIRAMAR, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, J.D., Democratic candidate for Florida's 20th Congressional District announces she has qualified for the upcoming Democratic Primary against Incumbent Alcee Hastings who is in his 3rd year of aggressive treatment for late stage pancreatic cancer. Mrs. McCormick is the CEO of Trinity Healthcare Services, a home health company with offices in Broward and Palm Beach Counties.

"We will be running a smart, grassroots campaign that puts the people's needs at the forefront," said campaign manager Willis Howard, a legend in South Florida politics and the strategic consultant instrumental in the surprise blow out win for the Andrew Gillum campaign in the 2018 August Democratic primary for Governor. The election date is August 18, 2020.

"We need a leader who will show up to work every day with the energy to fight for us in Washington. Mr. Hastings has missed key votes in Congress including the recent stimulus program which our community is desperate need of and has not been seen in the district in months. Our community is one of the hardest impacted by the Coronavirus in Florida," explained Mrs. McCormick on the need for new leadership in the district.

"Sheila McCormick is definitely the future of the Democratic Party," exclaimed Willis Howard.

The McCormick campaign has been focused for months establishing a lasting presence in the community and hosted various virtual town halls, activist briefings, and food and face mask distributions. The results of months of hard work are demonstrated after successfully outraising the incumbent in the first quarter reporting period.

"Members of the community have bombarded my campaign seeking help in applying for the Payroll Protection Program, as minority and women-owned small businesses have been largely denied relief. As a member of Congress, I will fight to ensure that federal programs are required to be equitable and focused on helping Main Street, instead of funding more Wall Street bailouts," concluded Mrs. McCormick.
