Wildflower! Arts & Music Festival Launches 2022 Event Tickets Sales and Announces Musical Lineup

Ticket Information

Tickets can be purchased at www.wildflowerfestival.com. Sales include VIP packages, weekend passes and daily admission tickets. Pricing for 2022 festival tickets is $35 single day, $75 three day pass and $400 Friends of the Festival VIP Packages, and children 12 and under will receive free admission all weekend.

Friends of the Festival VIP packages will include access to the Texans Credit Union VIP Hospitality Lounge plus rock-star seating near the main Methodist Richardson Amphitheater Stage.

City residents may also purchase discounted tickets at participating City of Richardson locations beginning April 1.

Festival Hours and Location Information

The annual, three-day event will be held at Galatyn Urban Park, located just north of Galatyn Parkway on the east side of U.S. 75 (Central Expressway) in Richardson.

Texas Fly Fishing & Brew Festival Returns to Mesquite

MESQUITE, Texas /ScoopCloud/ -- Looking forward to spring fishing? Who isn't? Fortunately for those of us still stuck in winter, the 5th annual Texas Fly Fishing & Brew Festival is headed to Mesquite on February 26-27, 2022.

Unique to the Texas Fly & Brew is a focus on microbrewery beer. With their paid admission, festival attendees 21 years and older receive tasting tickets to sample a variety of locally handcrafted brews. Breweries selected to participate in this year's event include Four Corners Brewing Co, Hop & Sting, and Tupps. All of the participating breweries will have personnel on hand to explain what sets microbrewed beer apart, why and how certain ingredients yield different flavors, and how to brew and taste different types of beer.

New to the 2022 Texas Fly & Brew is a series of advanced courses for experienced anglers. "We're well-known as a safe space for complete novices--those folks who have never picked up a fly rod in their lives," says Fly & Brew Director Beau Beasley. "Our event draws scores of children, and we have about six times the national average for women's participation, compared to other fishing events. This year, we're stepping up our game to draw experienced anglers, too, with unique, highly specialized courses taught by regional and national experts."

"Advanced Tactics for Fishing Tailwaters" with author and guide Pat Dorsey focuses on how to correctly fish below dams and in cold water rivers.

Full-time saltwater guide Captain Gary Dubiel, owner of Spec Fever Guide Service and a national pro-staffer for Temple Fork Outfitters, offers his unique "How to Locate and Land Monster Redfish ,"a class specifically designed for those who hope to land the redfish of a lifetime.

Interested in fly tying? Fiber Flies Dubbing owner Jim Bensinger will teach a "Beginner Fly Tying" class as well as a "How to Tie Wet Flies" class for intermediate to advanced fly tyers. No gear? At the "Women's Panel: Ask an Expert" class, Dana Williams, former president of Texas Women Fly Fishers, will answer questions from the audience. The Lowell Chamber Orchestra combines innovation, tradition, in latest offering

LOWELL, Mass. /ScoopCloud/ -- On Saturday, February 19, the Lowell Chamber Orchestra will become a vessel through which works explore the concept of new and old. "Antique Modernity" is a concert that revolves around Dana Kaufman's brand new work, written specifically for the Lowell Chamber Orchestra, and works by Francis Poulenc, Georg Philip Telemann, and Jean Philip Rameau, that challenge our concepts of contemporary and traditional.

Dana Kaufman's "Greyed Rainbow" was commissioned by the Lowell Chamber Orchestra and written in 2021. When asked about her inspiration for the work, Kaufman says "I considered the concept of 'Antique Modernity' in the context of the past two years of the COVID pandemic: what do we now consider 'antique,' and what do we now consider 'modern?' What is old, and what is new? I thought of a communal melancholy, a sense of optimism, and a continued surrealness in our daily lives."

An art connoisseur, Kaufman continues: "On a visit in 2021 to the Art Institute of Chicago (in my hometown), I saw what I thought to be a fitting exploration of this 'old and new' reflected in Jackson Pollock's Greyed Rainbow. Jackson Pollock's Abstract Expressionist work, which bridges traditional and contemporary 20th-century aesthetics in visual art, has always resonated with me. One of the painting's elements that I find particularly striking is its use of palettes that may initially appear to conflict with one another. Approximately two thirds of the painting is starkly monochromatic, while the bottom third of the painting incorporates hints of several colors. Pollock's work connects bleakness and solace."

The program starts with Francis Poulenc's "Suite Française d'après Claude Gervaise," a collection of Renaissance tunes. In 1935, Poulenc arranged (with his personal touch) a few dances in Claude Gervaise's "Livre de Danceries" for an unusual combination of winds, brass and percussion instruments - "unusual" for our times, but probably common during Gervaise's time.

The concert will continue with a concerto for two instruments seldom seen together: recorder, and transverse flute. Written by Georg Philip Telemann, this is the only concerto to make use of this combination, conceived at a time when the orchestras of the time were growing, and the sweet sound of the recorder was slowly being replaced by the traverso - the Baroque equivalent of the modern flute.

The end of the program is a suite from the opera "Castor et Pollux," by Jean-Philippe Rameau, which tells the fantastic origins of the constellation Gemini. The music, which at the time was designed to be arranged for whatever instruments were available at a given ensemble, finds a modern design in LCO's brand new orchestration. The suite will be accompanied with a slideshow that will tell the story of the opera.

12th Annual RVA Environmental Film Festival Free and Open to the Public February 18 – March 4, 2022

RICHMOND, Va. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Richmond Environmental Film Festival (RVA EFF) announces its 12th annual showcase of over 20 free local and national films selected to raise awareness of environmental issues and offer solution-oriented messages of hope that inspire action towards promoting planet health and environmental justice. Again this year, RVA EFF held the Virginia Environmental Film Contest. First prize went to "Headwaters Down," directed by Justin Black, Will Gemma, and Dietrich Teschner. This film tells the story of five friends who undertake a 13-day, 250-mile canoe adventure from the headwaters of the James River to the fall line in Richmond. Along the way, they explore the environmental and historical aspects of the troubled yet beautiful river as they witness first-hand the many factors impacting its future.

The two second prize winners were "Breathing Life Back Into Richmond," directed by Jackie Stephens and "Canaries in the Coal Mine," written, directed and produced by Nick Garnhart. Two youth awards were also given. All five films will be shown virtually the evening of Sunday, February 20. "Headwaters Down" will also be shown at The Byrd Theater on February 27. The festival begins with "8 Billion Angels," hosted by James River Association. The film uses breathtaking cinematography to tell the truth about the conflict between the size of our global population and the sustainability of our planet. The Virginia Interfaith Power & Light hosts "Mossville, When Great Trees Fall," telling the story of one man who refuses to give up when his centuries-old black community, contaminated by petrochemical plants, faces the loss of its ancestral home.

The Richmond Public Library & City Office of Sustainability host "The Sacrifice Zone," following a group of environmental justice fighters determined to break the cycle of poor communities of color serving as dumping grounds for our consumer society. Plans Announced for a ‘People’s Remembrance’ of January 6 Attack

The Lowell Chamber Orchestra opens their third season with cosmic music, premieres

LOWELL, Mass. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Lowell Chamber Orchestra opens its third season this Saturday, September 25, with music inspired by the cosmos. The three works by Anna Clyne, Micah Roberts, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, all allude to a cosmic object.

The program starts with "Hypernovae," written by Tennessee composer Micah Roberts. "Hypernovae" was written for the Lowell Chamber Orchestra's first ever call-for-scores. Roberts' score was measured against about other 120 from nine different countries, and the judges were impressed by its driving force and unusual orchestration. "Hypernovae" will receive its first ever performance at the beginning of the program, and the composer will be present.

Following a world premiere, the second work in the program will be heard for the first time in Massachusetts. Anna Clyne's "Three Sisters" is a concerto for mandolin and string orchestra inspired by the three stars that make the "belt" of the constellation Orion.

About her piece, Clyne says "It's a piece I actually wrote in 3 locations. And one of the locations was my apartment in Brooklyn that had access to a rooftop and I would sit on the rooftop looking at the stars, often seeing the constellation Orion, which is also known as 'Three sisters.' So just thinking about the stars, the passage of time, and that journey."

Joseph Brent will be the featured soloist of the evening. Called, "one of the truly exceptional musicians of his generation," Brent has worked closely with many of the great modern composers, and has performed with many well-known chamber ensembles, including The International Contemporary Ensemble, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, among many others. He is a published author of mandolin pedagogy, and has released a few albums. "By the time I was 13 I knew mandolin was my voice," says Brent about his musical career's beginnings. Today, Brent plays mandolins with 5, 8, and 10 strings, all custom-made for him.

The concert ends with the very well know forty-first symphony by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Truthfully, Mozart was not thinking about Jupiter - the planet after which the symphony is named - when he wrote this symphony. According to a story, the nickname comes from a British publisher, who upon hearing the opening chords, thought of the thunderbolts of the ancient Greek god Jupiter. However, the symphony's majestic structure and use of instruments does compare with the largest planet of the solar system.

The concert is free to attend, but donations are most welcome. Audience is required to show proof of vaccination, and to be masked while indoors.

She developed the platform to serve the community through educational, theatrical, and literary performances. The festival showcases local, regional, and nationally recognized poets, while educating and encouraging self-expression in local youth.

Highlighting New Acquisitions on View at the Museum of Sex, NYC

NEW YORK, N.Y. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Museum of Sex, NYC is proud to announce that as of September 1, 2021, Zoya Cherkassky's drawing "Untitled" from her "Women Who Work" series and Louis Soubrier's Siège D'Amour Love Chair will be on view in the second floor exhibition "Artifact [xxx]: Selections from Secret Collections." The Museum recently acquired the chair from M S Rau LLC, New Orleans and the drawing from Fort Gansevoort Gallery, NYC for the permanent collection.

Artist Zoya Cherkassky recently detoured from her usual practice to explore the topic of female sex work in a series called "Women Who Work." In this drawing, Cherkassky beautifully and hauntingly portrays the disassociation and alienation many women experience during sexual intercourse and intimacy. Inspired by the horrific story and subsequent Russian mythologization of Viktor Mokhov, who abducted two teenage girls in 2000 and held them hostage as enslaved sex workers for four years in a bunker, the drawing highlights the power dynamics, abuse and fear that can accompany sex and the sex work industry.

Specially designed in 1890 by French cabinet-maker Louis Soubrier for King Edward VII (1841-1910), the Prince of Wales and King of England from 1901 to 1910, who was also known as "Dirty Bertie," the love chair enabled the infamous playboy prince to partake in sexual amusement with minimal exertion in numerous ways, including with two ladies at once. Le Chabanais, one of the extravagant brothels of nineteenth and twentieth century Paris, kept the original chair in a private room for the future king's personal use. While the exact chair used by "Dirty Bertie" is now owned by Soubrier's great-grandson, the example on view at the Museum of Sex is one of just two replicas based on the original design. The only other known replica is on view at the Sex Machines Museum in Prague. The chair has been featured in both BBC and Smithsonian documentaries such as the "Private Lives of Monarchs."

As part of the rotation of new objects into "Artifact [xxx]," the Museum has also recently hung Keith Haring's "Bad Boys" (1986), a set of 6 framed silkscreen prints on loan from the Keith Haring Foundation until February 2022. The exhibition also features objects on loan from the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction at Indiana University Bloomington, Stanley B. Burns, MD Collection & Archive and the Dittrick Medical History Center at the College of Arts and Sciences at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH.
