Six PBS Stations Join A National Initiative to Break The Stereotypes of Individuals with Disabilities

ROCHESTER, N.Y. /ScoopCloud/ -- July 2020 marks the 30th anniversary of President Bush signing into law the Americans with Disabilities Act. In celebration of this civil rights law, WXXI Public Media (Rochester, New York) is leading a pilot project to expand its innovative "Move to Include" initiative into five additional communities. Funded through a grant from the Corporation of Public Broadcasting, this national initiative will use the power of public media to inform and transform attitudes and behavior about disabilities.

WXXI is partnering with PBS affiliates WFYI (Indianapolis), OPB (Oregon), WGCU (Southwest Florida), WCNY (Syracuse), and Iowa PBS to spotlight disability issues and people with differing abilities through television, radio, news, special events, and social media.

"We're proud to pilot Move to Include in five additional communities, using public media's many platforms to promote equity and inclusion," said WXXI President Norm Silverstein. "Through Move to Include, we hope to build more inclusive communities by inspiring and motivating people to embrace different abilities and include all people in every aspect of community life."

The six PBS stations will work to organize community partnerships, create content, and provide outreach specific to their own communities. They will also contribute content to the PBS LearningMedia collection used by teachers, families and students free of charge.

"Public media's mission is to make high quality programming free and accessible to all, and Move to Include is an important part of ensuring inclusion for people with disabilities," said Pat Harrison, president and CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. RMA Presents Long-term Strategic Finance Action Plan for North Miami Beach

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- RMA (www.RMA.us.com) presented their combined 5-Year Strategic Finance Plan and Action Plan for the City of North Miami Beach to the CRA Board on Thursday, June 25. The award-winning consulting firm developed a clear and concise roadmap to prioritize and guide redevelopment in the CRA area. This plan was unanimously approved by the Board.

RMA's presentation detailed long-term development projects within the CRA District and highlighted targeted redevelopment zones for investment, making it easier to allocate resources and implement distinctive branding and marketing campaigns.

A video of the meeting can be viewed at http://www.citynmb.com.

"RMA has done a tremendous job in developing this Actionable Finance Plan," said Esmond Scott, City Manager who also serves as the CRA Executive Director. "Their team focused on the best strategies for revitalizing underutilized areas and tapping into each district's unique potential. Beyond a list of goals, this plan provides a strategic path to success.

Key recommendations in the Plan include:
1. Transformation of the Snake Creek Canal area, capitalizing on its potential to become a regional waterfront amenity.
2. Create a lively urban "main street" along Hanford Blvd/164, which could feature ground floor restaurants, bars, cafes, offices and artists' studios.
3. Expand the current mural program, and more aggressively identify locations for murals and public art to enhance cultural community pride and diversity.
4. Encourage the City to continue assisting local businesses and take advantage of the mom & pop business cluster north of the canal while adopting incentive programs specific to further the redevelopment of this area.
5. Create a bold and beautiful Civic Commons atmosphere with a grand Boulevard or promenade in the area which currently predominantly features governmental institutions, a theater, offices and schools.
6. Attract private investment to transform underutilized parcels and industrial space into a future industrial arts area with maker's spaces and repurposed co-working spaces.
7. Develop a complete streets initiative along 163rd Corridor to create an area that invites residents to stroll the neighborhood.

"These are just a few of the recommendations featured in the plan that RMA presented to the Board," said Sharon McCormick, RMA's Director of Business Attraction & Marketing. "We are honored to be part of the City's team in revitalizing this dynamic community, and we look forward to implementing the next steps."

RMA has partnered with the City on multiple initiatives over the course of the last several years including economic development and incentive strategies, planning & zoning, and marketing & branding. One of RMA's most remarkable achievements for North Miami Beach was the Land Use and Zoning Amendments, which led to the City's tax base increasing by 17% in one year city-wide and by 46% in the CRA District. RMA also developed the recent North Miami Beach Recovery and Resilience Plan, which focused on the best strategies for moving forward economically from the COVID-19 crisis.

About RMA:

Founded in 2009 by Kim Briesemeister and Chris Brown, RMA is comprised of a phenomenal team of leading experts in economic development, real estate for governments, marketing, urban design and financial analysis. RMA, headquartered in Pompano Beach, Florida is a highly experienced, full-service economic redevelopment consulting and management firm, specializing in revitalizing core areas and corridors for cities, counties and special districts nationwide. Doggy Dashing on June 27 – Walking Together to Save Lives

SACRAMENTO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Sacramento SPCA is hosting their annual Doggy Dash this Saturday, June 27, 2020 - and this year is sure to offer more than just another walk in the park.

Now celebrating its 27th anniversary, the Doggy Dash has grown into Northern California's largest 2K/5K dog walk and pet festival - with a goal this year to raise $185,000 in registrations and donations to support the lifesaving programs that help animals and the people who love them in the Sacramento region. Donations from last year's Doggy Dash helped the Sacramento SPCA provide direct care to more than 35,000 animals in 2019.

With restrictions placed on large groups events due to the COVID-19 health crisis, the Sacramento SPCA shifted its largest community event and fundraiser of the year from a gathering at Sacramento's iconic William Land Park to a virtual experience.

"Just because we can't walk side by side, doesn't mean we can't still walk together to save lives," said Dawn Foster, Sacramento SPCA Marketing and Communications Director.

An estimated 5,000 animal lovers usually gather at William Land Park for this special event each year, with and without their canine companions - to raise funds for animals at the Sacramento SPCA and enjoy pet-friendly vendors, demonstrations, contests, food trucks, beer garden, local entertainment and more!

"During these challenging times, when other shelters have closed their doors and cancelled events, the Sacramento SPCA has found ways to adapt and continue saying 'yes' to the community's animals and the people who love them," said Foster. "Saving lives isn't cancelled - and neither is the Doggy Dash."

Pet enthusiasts living far and wide are encouraged to join the Sacramento SPCA on June 27, 2020 from their neighborhoods, parks and trails for the 2k/5k walk and also connect online to share photos and enjoy the event's live broadcast and pet festival.

For the first time in the Doggy Dash's 27-year history, participation will not be limited by one's zip code. "By participating in our own communities, people and dogs who would not normally be able to participate at William Land Park, can now do so," added Foster.

The virtual event will be kicked off LIVE on the shelter's Facebook page at 9 a.m.; participants will hear from the Sacramento SPCA's CEO, Kenn Altine, meet adoptable animals, say hello to some very special community partners, learn more about how the Sacramento SPCA has continued to save lives during the shelter-in-place and witness a very special kick-off to the 2K/5K walk.

Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SacSPCA/

Doggy Dashers are encouraged to share photos and video of them and their dogs walking and participating in the event's activities throughout the day using the hashtag #dashreleashed.

As the only full-service 100% non-profit animal shelter in the Sacramento region, the Sacramento SPCA relies on donations from individuals, businesses and foundations to support their work. They are local, independent, and do not receive funding from state or local government agencies.

Supporting this year's Virtual Doggy Dash by walking, sharing or donating will help Sacramento SPCA continue to give more than shelter to the animals who need it most.

To register for the event or donate to help animals in need, visit http://www.sspca.org/dash.

About the Sacramento SPCA:

Founded in 1892, the Sacramento SPCA has been providing homeless animals with individual comfort, shelter, and love for more than 128 years. They provide compassionate medical care to tens of thousands of animals annually and offer a variety of programs and services designed to keep people and pets together for life.

Tree Care Marketing Company Sees Its Most Explosive Growth Amidst 2020 Pandemic

WEST CHESTER, Pa. /ScoopCloud/ -- "The tree service companies that consistently thrive are those that ramp up their marketing efforts during times of recession, such as the economic downturn of the COVID-19 pandemic." This statement comes from Don Dowd, owner and founder of Tree Leads Today. "During economic lulls, many make the mistake of scaling back their marketing out of fear."

If a company's workflow becomes inconsistent, owners may lose their qualified arborists and climbers to their competitors. Without a solid team, a tree company is at risk of failure.

Tree Leads Today is a nationwide tree care marketing company with clients extending as far north as Waterville, Maine, as far west as Maui, Hawaii and to the south to Key West, Florida. They deliver 50 to 1,000 exclusive leads per month to every one of their tree care company partners.

As Dowd explains, they assign a personal client manager to each of their tree company partners, providing ongoing advice for online and offline marketing campaigns for continual, consistent lead generation. They cater to companies' ever-changing needs, such as ramping up, ramping down, or pausing their marketing when their businesses surge to the point they can't keep up with their expanding customer base.

Tree Leads Today works with the largest nationwide tree companies, such as Bartlett Tree Service and Davey Tree Experts, as well as startup and small companies. Unlike other lead systems, the leads they provide are 100% exclusive. This means they aren't shared with any other tree companies in the zip codes that have been specially reserved for their partners. Tree companies get the calls directly from their leads, a unique feature of Tree Leads Today that makes the process transparent and immediate.

Also, as Don explains, "We have found that 6% of leads are bad, so we built a 10% 'bad lead allowance' into the equation. So, for example, if you are a tree service with a 100-leads-per-month plan, we give you 110 leads per month to ensure we've got you covered."

Tree Leads Today maintains close relationships with all of their partnering tree companies. They look forward to the TCI Expo, the industry's biggest yearly event, to see their partners in person and network with thousands of exhibitors, educators, tree company owners, and equipment suppliers. Unfortunately, it was just announced by the host of the event, TCIA (Tree Care Industry Association), that this year's Expo is cancelled due to COVID-19 guidelines. Tech Company HoloPundits Offers Free Augmented Reality Fireworks for July 4

DUBLIN, Ohio /ScoopCloud/ -- While social distancing guidelines are still in effect, many Fourth of July celebrations have been put on hold. Though nothing can replace the magic of real fireworks, HoloPundits, a technology company, created a free augmented reality experience available to anyone with a smartphone or tablet.

"We wanted to make something special for the public to enjoy," said HoloPundits Founder and CEO Vinod Dega. "With our app, Fourth of July fireworks can be brought to life wherever you are through augmented reality."

The app, TotalAR, puts dazzling displays in the sky through a smartphone or tablet, giving the viewer the opportunity to see fireworks as if standing right under them.

The 12-minute fireworks display will be available to view between 9 p.m. and midnight local time on July 4. Watch it once or multiple times before midnight.

Communities across the country are promoting this virtual display as an alternative to in-person fireworks events.

Available now on TotalAR are other augmented reality experiences - all at no cost and free of ads. Experience a rainbow, floating lanterns, a hot air balloon launch, and a UFO landing all from the comfort of your home or your favorite social-distancing location.

"People can enjoy the holiday safely, and that is important to us," said Dega.

To enjoy the experience, download the TotalAR app for free at GooglePlay or the AppStore (no ads appear in this app). Allow the app to enable camera and location services, open the app and click on the Geo AR option.

New Internet Radio Station Founded by ‘Dream Team’ of Radio Personalities

20-0625s2p-tncradio-live-696x522.jpg /ScoopCloud/ -- TNCRadio.LIVE announced today that some well-known radio personalities along with others have come together to help create a new Internet Radio and Mixed-media company focused on those who spend their day driving the streets of Houston.

TNCRadio.LIVE an Internet Radio station launching July 1, 2020, provides Houston TNC, delivery, repair service and other full-time drivers up-to-the-minute details they need to be safer, smarter, and more successful. They do this by providing accurate and timely traffic, weather, and emergency information along with driver-designed programming throughout the broadcast day.

Managing Partner, Tom Kelley said, "This team came together in a remarkable way. We have IT professionals, social media experts, and finance support all focused on the same goal. We are also excited that several radio personalities have joined the team. As a mixed-media information distribution company, we hope to disrupt the Houston Internet Radio market in a way that is positive for our listeners and our advertisers."

Kelley went on to discuss some of the on-air personalities who have joined the company as partners. Jim Kovacik, Vice President of Programming (formerly, 'Jimbo,' 97.9 The Box) has been a ratings leader in the Houston market for years. Author, on-air personality and mixed-media journalist, Shelley Johnson is the Vice President of Business Development. Additionally, Houstonians will recognize the strong and trusted voice of Vice President of Operations, Ron Samuels.

"Combined, that's nearly 100 years of broadcast experience right there. It is a real 'Dream Team' of radio broadcasters moving into the new world of Internet Radio and mixed-media communications. As the market moves to an Internet based format, these radio greats have kept up with the times and made the move as well," said Kelley.

Jim Kovacik, who also manages the station's strategic business relationships, announced the new station has developed partnerships with a variety of companies. "We have teamed with WAZE to power our Traffic Navigation Center. Plus, we are working closely with TranStar and other digital broadcasters to create a system that provides information and entertainment across multiple formats focused on our core audience."

Shelley Johnson said, "We are positioned to be a strong leader in the Houston Mixed-media advertising market. It is not like the old days at all. While our goal is to allow drivers to keep their 'eyes on the road and their ears on us,' much of our advertising and our information content is available on our app, videos, website, podcasts, and streaming. Our advantage is that we can bring real-time information across multiple platforms while concentrating on the health and safety of our drivers. This brings a level of security that they have not had in the past. It also gives our sponsors a place to deliver their message directly to those who need their goods and services."

Known for his powerful voice on several San Francisco and Houston area radio stations, Ron Samuels is no stranger to the Houston market. When asked about why such a well-known radio personality would jump into the world of Internet Radio at this point in his career, Samuels said, "My family keeps asking me when I plan to retire. I'm not sure that's in my nature. These guys have done their research and we are almost ready to launch. I am excited to be part of something that brings the power of Radio to the Digital age.

Our audience delivers people, car-parts, food, furniture, and groceries. Others drive from site-to-site doing repairs, etc. It won't be long before the professional drivers of Houston have a new favorite radio station."

TNCRadio.LIVE, scheduled to launch July 1, 2020, provides on-going weather, traffic, and emergency information to Houston area drivers. The station is privately owned. TNCRadio.LIVE is a DBA of IMSICO, LLC, a Texas Company and can be accessed via Alexa, a number of Internet Radio Directories or by visiting the company website.

If you would like more information about this topic, please call Ambar Mendez, Director of Digital Marketing at 281-870-2700, or visit the website https://tncradio.live or email info@tncradio.live

The 26-year-old rising star has surpassed 350 million streams establishing a cult-like musical following all over the world. In 2017 the singer-songwriter broke through with the infectious hit single "Miss It" addressing the topic of heartbreak and relatable relationship issues we all experience with our significant other.

Following the release of his first gold single, Bleu followed up with the 5th installment to his popular mixtape series "Investments" which features his second gold single "Ice on Baby" and other stand out songs "Unappreciated" "Slide Thru" and "Smooth Operator" featuring Lil Durk. The buzz and popularity of "Investments 5" grabbed the attention of multi-platinum Grammy-nominated artist Kevin Gates, blessing Bleu with a standout verse on the remix to his hit single "Ice on my Baby." Following the success of their collaboration, Kevin invited Bleu on his first American tour, in the fall of 2018 playing, 35 concerts together, during the "Luca Brasi 3 Tour"

The over 800K YouTube subscribers and nearly one million Instagram followers have spearheaded Yung Bleu into the forefront of Alabama's remerging music scene. In 2019, Bleu released his debut album "Investments 6," on Columbia Records and also expanded his portfolio, by launching his own imprint, Vandross Music Group (VMG). Yung Bleu also opened his first restaurant located, in his hometown of Mobile Alabama, named Gwen's House. The year of 2019 was the year Yung Bleu solidified his Brand in the history books diversifying his investment philosophy into business outside of Entertainment.

With 2020 starting off so unpredictable, Bleu was forced to adjust his approaches like many other musicians and touring performers due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Taking advantage of the downtime Bleu released a surprise project appropriately titled "Since We Inside" in April of 2020 to rave reviews sending Twitter into a viral uproar from the overwhelming response of the fans. IDS Expands Settlement Agent Roles in Solitude Solution

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah /ScoopCloud/ -- Mortgage document preparation vendor International Document Services, Inc. (IDS), announced it has updated and expanded several features within its eClose platform Solitude Solution to streamline the closing ceremony and better support the settlement agent's role in the closing process.

Settlement agents now have the ability to view the signing progress alongside borrowers in the eSign Room, making it easier for agents to answer questions that may arise during the closing ceremony. Additionally, settlement agents have access to view all documents in the closing package, rather than just those assigned to the agent as a task.

"By granting more access to settlement agents, we have enabled our clients to more efficiently manage borrower inquiries and keep their process moving," said IDS Vice President and General Manager Mark Mackey. "This change also helps our clients build borrower trust by equipping agents with the knowledge to support each closing package."

To further enhance the efficiency of the process, agents can print wet-signed documents prior to the note date in preparation for the closing ceremony, saving time at the table. Agents also have the capability to create eSign, wet sign or acknowledgement documents and upload them during the preview phase. This functionality simplifies the closing process for the borrower by allowing settlement agents to add their proprietary documents into the final closing package for signing in advance, for their review.

"These updates have been made in IDS' ongoing effort to offer our clients and their borrowers the best possible experience," said Mackey. "Digital closings are constantly evolving, as is Solitude Solution. The role updates will allow settlement agents to more easily complete tasks and lend to a smoother closing process."

About IDS, Inc.

IDS, a Reynolds and Reynolds company, was founded in 1986 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is a nationwide provider of mortgage documents and compliance. IDS services include eSignatures, closing documents, initial disclosures, document fulfillment and integration with leading loan origination systems and eClosing platforms. The IDS flagship doc prep solution, idsDoc, is recognized in the industry for its ability to be customized to meet specific lender needs, particularly in regard to major industry compliance changes. Michael Jackson Tells His Own Story in Interactive Audio Book Filled with Intimate Voicemail Recordings

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Dieter Wiesner, Michael Jackson's former manager and friend, had many voice recordings from the pop icon, and sought a way to share them with others. He wanted people to know the real Michael Jackson. When he met Yusuf Jah, a published author, he was inspired to write a book where Jackson actually 'told his own story.' "Michael Jackson: The Real Story" (ISBN: 978-1732181397), co-authored by Wiesner and Jah and published by Kingdomedia, is the result of that desire. It gives readers a firsthand account of what Jackson was really like along with some astonishing plans he had in the works - plans that he hoped would change the world.

Through a series of narratives and numerous previously unreleased voicemail messages, readers and listeners now have access to new information that provides a deeper insight into the visionary, business man, father and family man. They'll gain a greater breadth of understanding regarding what Jackson really hoped to achieve in what he thought remained of his life.

Wiesner's collection of Jackson's personal data is impressive. He spent years traveling and living with him so the information he has to share is invaluable in so many ways. He wants people to know Jackson the way he did.

"His memory, his legacy and his dear family all deserve to hear the perspective of someone who was around him and who he trusted within his inner circle," Wiesner says. "He shared things with me that he shared with no one else."

Thanks to publishing audio technology, readers will get to hear the "King of Pop" talk about everything from making business acquisitions and partnering with Disney and Marvel Comics to create a universe of entertainment that would rival any other. He wanted to see more people of color in the board room and hoped to inspire that to happen.

"Sadly, his life was cut short and he was never able to carry out these second phase-of-life plans that would have made him one of the wealthiest people on the planet," Wiesner says. "His plans could have affected not just pop culture, but the world."

In addition to messages about business ventures, the human side of Jackson is touched on too - the one that yearned to have a simpler life where he could do everyday things without being held accountable to millions. Going out for a pizza or sipping a soda for most are non-eventful moments. For Jackson, they were unforgettable.

"We hope this book resurrects the spirit of Jackson," Jah says. "He's no longer part of the physical world, but his passion and desire to implement change certainly is."

"Michael Jackson: The Real Story" is currently available on Audible, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble and more. It's available as an audio book, in print (with audio transcripts) and as an ebook.

Danville Congregational Church Chosen Best Place of Worship by East Bay Times Reader’s Choice Awards

DANVILLE, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Danville Congregational Church (DCC) (www.danvillechurch.org) today announced that it was named "Best Place of Worship" for 2020-2021 by the East Bay Times Reader's Choice Awards. The church also received that honor from East Bay Times readers for 2019-2020. This latest recognition will appear in a supplement to be published with the Sunday, June 28 edition of the East Bay Times.

Background

DCC is a progressive spiritual community that is open and affirming of the LGBTQ community, celebrates differences, is committed to anti-racism work, and encourages alternate views. Members come from many religious traditions, from Baptist to Catholic, from Unitarian to Orthodox, or with no church background at all.

Jim and Shii Stickler began attending Danville Congregational Church earlier this year, based upon a friend's recommendation to visit a United Church of Christ (UCC) congregation. "It was important for us to find a church committed to an open and affirming philosophy of acceptance for all, and we have found that at DCC," said Jim Stickler. "The pastors and people of this community really put this into practice and are truly welcoming."

At DCC, church programs and affiliations include the youth group, a sister parish affiliation with San Antonio Catholic Church in Guatemala, and partnerships with the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County, Hope Solutions, and Shelter, Inc. In addition, DCC provides support to other religious institutions and non-profits that serve communities across Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

An important community resource located on the Danville Congregational Church campus is Dayspring Preschool. Its "inquiry learning" approach promotes the use of a child's natural curiosity and hands-on learning materials. Enrichment classes include music and movement, soccer, and dance. The program goal is to help children develop a life-long love of learning, preparing them for success in kindergarten and beyond.

Online presence

DCC was an early adopter of an online church service driven by the COVID-19 pandemic. From a one-way live stream on March 15, DCC quickly transitioned to a video conference service. The result has been an authentic church experience, with screen displays of announcements, the liturgy, scripture, and recorded music. Since Sunday service moved online, church attendance, program participation, and giving at DCC have all increased significantly.

"This recognition from readers of the East Bay Times reflects the impact our Sunday service and church programs are having on members of our church community, especially now with our virtual presence," said Senior Pastor Rev. Eric Sherlock. "Because we are now online accessible to anyone with a laptop or smartphone, we can engage with people in nursing and retirement homes; family and friends of church members; and others who can't attend a live church service. This will remain an important component of our ministry and programs long after shelter-in-place restrictions have ended."

About Danville Congregational Church

Danville Congregational Church traces its roots to a women's sewing circle, which came together in June of 1954. The group's efforts led to the formation of San Ramon Valley Congregational Church the following year. In June, 1986, members voted to change the name to Danville Congregational Church. Today, Danville Congregational Church is a member congregation of the United Church of Christ. Our denomination formed in 1957, when it completed a process of conversation resulting in the union of two denominations: the Congregational Christian Churches and the Evangelical and Reformed Church.

Associated Colleges of Illinois Board Elects New Leadership for 2020-2021

CHICAGO, Ill. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Associated Colleges of Illinois (ACI) Board of Trustees (https://acifund.org/board-of-trustees/) elected Lyn Bulman, retired executive vice president of global human resources, Fellowes Brands, to a two-year term as board chair. Bulman succeeded Frank D. Cella, managing director, Marsh USA, Inc., who served as ACI's board chair since 2017.

Bulman, Oak Park, Illinois, who previously served as the board's Program Committee Chair, began her new duties this month. "I am delighted to be taking this role," Bulman told the trustees. "I think ACI is a great organization. I'm very proud of the work that we do, and I think there's a lot of great progress going on that we can continue."

The board also elected Angela T. Allen, Mitchell Titus, Chicago, as treasurer and Finance Committee chair. She succeeded Clifton C. Fenton, who served several years in both roles. The board's other officer, Dr. Jamel Wright, president of Eureka College, remained in her role as ACI president.

First-ever student board representative elected

The Board of Trustees elected Chloe Overstreet, a student at Eureka College (https://www.eureka.edu/), Eureka, Illinois, as the board's first student representative in ACI's 68-year history. Overstreet, from Stillman Valley, Illinois, will begin her junior year at Eureka College this fall, majoring in history and political science, and business administration.

Overstreet was nominated by the board's Trusteeship Committee, which began discussions earlier this year about adding a student to further diversify the board. Currently, the board has 37 corporate members, plus the presidents of ACI's 27 member colleges and universities.

Overstreet is a first-generation college student, who started her college career at Eureka shortly after her father died in a work-related accident. Once at Eureka, she joined ACI's Peer Mentoring Program, aimed at helping first-generation college students through their critical first year. She began as a mentee and is now a mentor to incoming first-generation students.

"The program offered both guidance and financial relief as I was beginning college," Overstreet wrote in a letter to the board. "Access to emergency funds provided the relief that I needed to start college." Serving as an ACI board member will provide a student perspective and help other students access opportunities that ACI provides, Overstreet added.

In May, Overstreet recorded a video about her experience at Eureka College and the Peer Mentoring Program for ACI's annual fundraising event, a virtual event this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Her video can be viewed at https://acifund.org/2020-aci-virtual-benefit-reception/

New committee chairs, vice chairs elected

The board also elected chairs and vice chairs of its five standing committees. Each was elected to a two-year term:
* Advancement: Anthony LoBello, Chicago, chair, and Donald A. Campbell, Jr., retired from Campbell & Co., vice chair
* Communications: Angie Winschel, Almanac, Inc., St. Louis, chair, and Holly Bartecki, Jasculca Terman Strategic Communications, Chicago, vice chair
* Finance: Angela T. Allen, chair; Bradley Summers, Wells Fargo, Chicago, vice chair
* Program: Debora L. Osgood, Hogan Marren Babbo & Rose, Ltd., Chicago, chair; Justin Lee Allen, BDJ Trucking Co., Schaumburg, vice chair
* Trusteeship: Jerry Murphy, retired from DeVry Education Group, chair; and Barry C. Mastin, Jr., Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., Chicago, vice chair

National Community Stabilization Trust Announces Leadership of Two National Initiatives

WASHINGTON, D.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- Today, the National Community Stabilization Trust (NCST) announced its leadership of two national initiatives. First, NCST announced the formation of the Homeownership Alliance, which will advocate for more resources and better policies to increase affordable homeownership opportunities for American families.

Second, NCST announced it will join NeighborWorks America as a partner in leading the Middle Neighborhoods Initiative, which brings attention to neighborhoods across the country that have long been stable communities for middle- and working-class families, but that today are at risk of either decline or displacement from gentrification.

These initiatives both arose in response to unmet needs the national advocacy landscape, and they aim to fill those gaps. Together, they represent a significant new commitment of resources to NCST's policy work aimed at preventing neighborhood blight, promoting stable communities, and supporting affordable homeownership.

Homeownership Alliance

The Homeownership Alliance's members comprise some of the leading nonprofit, mission-focused homeownership practitioners from across the country. These organizations prepare families to become successful homeowners and finance, renovate, and develop affordable homes that are assets for communities and the families that live in them.

"The organizations in the Alliance share the belief that in the United States, homeownership has long served as the most accessible path for families to build assets," stated Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership President and CEO John O'Callaghan, one of the founding members of the Alliance. "In addition to increasing wealth, homeownership provides families with the stability needed to achieve other positive outcomes, especially for children."

The Homeownership Alliance will focus on both legislative and regulatory opportunities to increase funding for affordable homeownership by improving and expanding existing programs and creating new sources of funding. Guided by its members, the group's advocacy will reflect the experiences of and lessons learned by some of the nation's most innovative and resilient homeownership developers and lenders.

Kris Siglin, Vice President for Policy and Partnerships at NCST, who is leading the formation of the group, explained, "Mission-driven homeownership practitioners need a voice in Washington that secures new resources for affordable homeownership and bolsters the capacity of nonprofits who operate in this sector. Creating this coalition will provide a more focused, practitioner-driven voice for homeownership than currently exists in the housing advocacy spectrum."

"As we look for look for strategies to confront inequality and reduce the racial wealth gap, affordable, sustainable homeownership is our nation's most proven tool to build wealth for families and stabilize communities," added NCST President Julia Gordon.

The Homeownership Alliance has 21 Founding Members. They are: Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership (GA); cdcb (TX); Center for Community Self Help (NC); Champlain Housing Trust (VT); CHN Housing Partners (OH); Cinnaire (MI); Community Housing Capital (GA); Fahe (KY); Homewise (NM); Hogar Hispano (DC); Housing Development Fund (CT); Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership (IN); MaineStream Finance (ME); Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago (IL); NeighborWorks Columbus (GA); NeighborWorks Southern Colorado (CO); NeighborWorks Western Vermont (VT); New Jersey Community Capital (NJ); Renaissance Community Loan Fund (MS); The Housing Partnership, Inc. (KY); and The Resurrection Project (IL).

In addition, ten national partners will participate in the Homeownership Alliance's policy development and advocacy: Enterprise Community Partners; Grounded Solutions Network; Habitat for Humanity; Housing Partnership Network; Local Initiatives Support Corporation; NALCAB - National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders; National NeighborWorks Association; Opportunity Finance Network; Prosperity Now; and Unidos US.

Middle Neighborhoods

NCST is joining with NeighborWorks America as a partner in leading the Middle Neighborhoods Initiative, previously housed at The American Assembly at Columbia University. By bringing attention to middle neighborhoods, this initiative supports the continued health and vitality of these neighborhoods so that they can remain safe, affordable communities that offer a high quality of life and access to opportunity. You can learn more at http://middleneighborhoods.org/.

"We are delighted to announce that NeighborWorks America and NCST will be leading the fight for America' middle neighborhoods. Both of these organizations have a track record of supporting practitioners working to strengthen and rebuild neighborhoods across the country," said Nedra Sims Fears, Executive Director of the Greater Chatham Initiative in Chicago, IL. Fears is a member of the National Middle Neighborhoods Steering Committee and a co-chair of the Middle Neighborhoods Community of Practice.

Going forward, NCST will coordinate national Middle Neighborhoods activities, including conducting research on neighborhood dynamics and developing policy proposals for supporting and investing in middle neighborhoods. NCST will also lead a communication effort focused on the importance of devoting resources to middle neighborhoods. The Steering Committee will continue to advise NCST on the direction of the initiative.

NCST President Julia Gordon stated: "Strong, stable middle neighborhoods offer a high quality of life, affordable housing, and access to opportunity for their residents, many of whom are households of color. The fate of middle neighborhoods matters immensely for racial and economic equity, and NCST is excited to bring its commitment and experience in fighting disinvestment and blight to the Middle Neighborhoods Initiative."

NeighborWorks America will support the Middle Neighborhoods Community of Practice, which brings city officials and neighborhood-based organizations from across the nation together with policy makers, academics, financial institutions, and foundations interested in these efforts. The Community convenes for peer-to-peer learning to share local best practices for supporting middle neighborhoods.

"We are excited to connect local stakeholders who are focused on stabilizing and revitalizing middle neighborhoods with their peers from across the country," said Paul Singh, Vice President of Community Initiatives at NeighborWorks America. "Through the Community of Practice, we hope to expand the toolkit for practitioners who are working to build strong and vibrant middle neighborhoods."

In the coming months, the Middle Neighborhoods Community of Practice will redouble its efforts at recruitment, communication, and collaboration among practitioners and will also catalogue how communities are responding to the COVID-19 crisis. NCST will publish new research on the dynamics and importance of middle neighborhoods and develop policy agendas for supporting and investing in middle neighborhoods.

National Online Speech Therapy Company Creates Free Resource Library in Response to Pandemic

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- Great Speech, Inc., an online speech therapy company, saw a spike for service demand when the pandemic hit. Founder and Clinical Director, Avivit Ben-Aharon, MS Ed., MA CCC-SLP, also quickly realized that many consumers who desperately needed services, lacked the financial resources or insurance coverage to pay for online services.

With a strong desire to fill the void, Ben-Aharon along with her team of therapists, created a free resource library of how-to videos, eBooks and blogs with speech therapy exercises for children and adults.

"The pandemic has highlighted the strong need for online speech therapy services," Ben-Aharon explained. "Despite stay-at-home and stay-safe orders, we need to keep moving forward. Children who are out of school as well as seniors who are rehabbing from a health crisis such as a stroke, can quickly fall behind in their learning and/or recovery. These free learning and exercise resources empower people to continue to make communication improvements."

These free online speech therapy resources can help everyone from a child who stutters to an adult on the autism spectrum or a senior recovering from a traumatic brain injury. They are also ideal for the parent-turned-teacher for activities and exercises to practice at home. The technology really resonates with how more and more businesses are moving to remote and online operations.

The advantages of online speech therapy are endless. For example, a grandmother in Chicago who has suffered a stroke can connect online with a speech therapist from Houston, while her daughter in Cleveland monitors the session; or a therapist who moves out of town can still provide services to their clients and provide continuity of care.

Great Speech's highly-trained speech therapists provide effective techniques for everything from articulation and phonology to stuttering, voice therapy, aphasia and more. Each speech therapist holds a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology; a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA); and is licensed by various state licensing boards.

About Great Speech, Inc.

Since 2014, Great Speech, Inc. has been the pioneer in online speech therapy, delivering convenient and specialized services virtually. Its innovative approach leverages technology to match highly-qualified therapists with clients who are serious about their communication goals. Great Speech believes that everyone deserves the chance to communicate with ease and confidence. Great Speech is a proud recipient of the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) certification.

FileMage Gateway customers can now take advantage of the productive and trusted Azure cloud platform, with streamlined deployment and management.

Dogs Trapped in Hot Cars – The Sacramento SPCA is Helping Keep Pets Safe

SACRAMENTO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- As the Sacramento region heads into an extremely hot week, one local animal welfare organization is taking action to help animals left in hot cars. The Sacramento SPCA is providing thermometers to all animal control officers in Sacramento County in an effort to prevent animals from suffering and dying in hot cars and to hold those who caused this suffering accountable.

Each year police and animals control officers in our community respond to hundreds of calls about animals - most often dogs - left in hot cars. These are reported by Good Samaritans who hear the animals crying for help or, in the worst cases, notice an animal that has passed out or stopped breathing. California law now allows these Good Samaritans to break into the vehicle under certain circumstances.

"We need the community to know that there are consequences to leaving an animal in a car - no matter the reason," said Kenn Altine, CEO of the Sacramento SPCA. "The consequences for the animal are horrific," he said, "but too often the person is not held accountable."

Altine said the thermometers, which are certified tested and calibrated, will allow the animal control officers to accurately capture the ambient air temperature in the vehicle as part of their evidence collection.

"By having a reliable and accurate recording of the temperature using a certified thermometer, we can better hold the people accountable for their actions," said Sacramento County DDA Hilary Bagley-Franzoia. The Sacramento County District Attorney handles cases of animals left in cars.

They've already had several cases this year, including an animal who was left in a car where the temperature reached 130 degrees, causing the animal to have seizures, neuropathy and to bleed through its skin and paws. Forty-five minutes after the animal was freed from the car, its internal temperature was still 108 degrees (normal body temperature for dogs and cats is 101 to 102.5 degrees).

First Los Angeles Dental Clinic That Uses Hospital-Type HVAC Systems to Mitigate Diseases Like COVID-19

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Mi Dentista Dental Clinic in collaboration with a mechanical engineering firm, HVAC Engineering, has set up the first known dental clinic in Los Angeles that uses Negative Pressure Environments to mitigate diseases like COVID-19, namely the disease associated with the SARS-Cov-2 virus.

Novel coronavirus, as the virus is frequently known, is believed to spread via droplets or aerosols produced from coughing, dental procedures, and breathing among others. Thus, the physical proximity between patients and dentists during a typical dental visit may benefit from additional care and attention.

Mi Dentista has set up elegantly-designed high-efficiency negative pressure dental units so that both droplets and aerosols may be rapidly eliminated via a high-speed vacuum. Each unit's reverse flow fan is rated to evacuate up to 2100 CFM (cubic feet of air per minute) which means that the quiet, powerful system may replace the air around every dental unit every 20 seconds. In addition, due to the 6000 CFM rating of the multiple reverse flow fans, the air across the entire dental office may be replaced every 90 seconds. Most importantly, as you can see in the video below, the air around the treatment care area, namely the oral region where dental procedures are carried out, is being constantly replaced and refreshed without interruption.

The negative pressure approach is the same method that large, specialized hospitals use to prevent the transmission of many airborne pathogens like tuberculosis and measles in the form of negative pressure isolation rooms. Yet, without similar support, dentists and dental assistants may have a higher chance of becoming infected and transmitting the disease to others.

"Ventilation systems that provide air movement from a clean (DHCP workstation or area) to contaminated (clinical patient care area) flow direction should be installed...," CDC COVID-19 Guidance for Dental Settings (Updated on May 19, 2020).

"Consider the use of a portable HEPA air filtration unit while the patient is actively undergoing, and immediately following, an aerosol-generating procedure. The use of these units will reduce particle count (including droplets) in the room...." "Consider the use of upper-room ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) as an adjunct to higher ventilation and air cleaning rates."

The Mi Dentista dental team has also implemented other infection control methods recommended by the CDC and the American Dental Association including avoiding placing patients in an enclosed waiting room, no accompanying visitors, repeated disinfection of surfaces during the day, and frequently replacing masks, face shields, gowns, goggles, and gloves. The air evacuated from the dental environment also first goes through a high-efficiency pre-filter and then is treated with high-powered, UV-C radiation to destroy virus particles. While no approach completely and absolutely eliminates the risk of infection, these methods are believed to help reduce it.

"During this global pandemic, it is important that we help minimize the spread and cross-contamination of pathogens," said Dr. Sadeghpour, Dentist, Mi Dentista Dental Clinic. "I am so proud that collaboration between medicine and engineering can identify and develop a possible solution for reducing the spread of infectious diseases so we can better protect patients and caregivers."

Mental Health Awareness License Plate Winning Design

LAFAYETTE, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- BeingwellCA, a California 501(c)(3), submitted the initial design for the Mental Health Awareness License Plate to California Department of Education for DMV review.

The winning design was selected after a statewide contest held for high school students. Winning artist Anshuree Banerjee took her passion for art to create meaningful imagery for the new Mental Health California license plate.

"I wanted a design that clearly included California as part of the solution and was positive about mental health," said Anshuree, a student at Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon, California.

"This license plate has the potential of raising millions of dollars for student mental health which are so desperately needed in the post Covid-19 school environment. And it does it without raising taxes," said Graham Wiseman, CEO of BeingwellCA.

"Wellness Centers with Caring Adults have proven to be a key in early intervention. A 12-year University of Michigan study reported a reduction of youth deaths by 660%! We need these in all schools." (JAMA Psychiatry, Feb, 2019)

California Senator Steven Glazer (7th District) is the author of SB1223 (4COLIN) that authorizes the Department of Motor Vehicles to issue a specialized license plate for Mental Health Awareness. Funds raised by the Mental Health License Plate will go to the California Department of Education for Mental Health Wellness Centers in California Schools. Due to Covid-19, this bill will carry over to 2021.

About BeingwellCA:

Graham & Caroline Wiseman founded BeingwellCA after the tragic loss of their son to suicide at age 15. With Gail Miller, they are now a leading voice to address the alarming rates of anxiety, depression and suicide ideation in our state. Some districts report depression rates amongst female juniors of 50% with serious suicide ideation of 20% in past year (CalSCHLS, 2018).

Suicide is the SECOND leading cause of death for ages 10-24 (2017 CDC WISQARS).

BeingwellCA's mission is to reduce anxiety, depression and suicide ideation in our youth. We do this by providing schools, parents, students and communities with tool kits and evidence-based strategies for Wellness Centers to provide mental health immediate support.

Customizable Kids’ Routine Charts Help Fill a Needed Niche

AURORA, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- Marie Green, founder Inspired Prose Printables, saw a need and filled it. She used her graphic design skills to create a business that helps busy parents wrangle schedules through simple drag and drop features that are actually fun for kids to follow.

These fun and attractive printable routine charts will actually inspire kids to stick to their schedules - and that's a chore in itself.

"Many existing chore chart templates have limited customization and lack interesting visuals. Young children respond well to imagery; it's how they learn," Green says. "Inspired Prose Printable routine charts implement that same principle of visual learning."

One busy mom said, "We've been using this with our four-year-old for about six weeks and he really enjoys 'reading' the chart himself. We laminated it, so he can use dry-erase markers to check off the boxes every morning and night. He feels so proud of himself when he completes his list. The customization capabilities of the file were really helpful too."

These editable routine chart templates can help with everything from bedtime routines to morning activities, and updates can be made with just a few clicks of the mouse. Parents can quickly add or remove tasks, change graphics and there's no need to download any software to make modifications happen. Inspired Prose Printables gives moms and dads access to a free drag and drop online editor.

"My overall mission is to give parents the tools they need to create playful designs that inspire positive action," Green says. "These charts help kids and parents to build healthy habits and skills, together."

These daily routine charts for kids not only help parents, but also help kids to develop a sense of autonomy. They allow kids to see what's expected of them which contributes to smoother days.

So, morning meltdowns and bedtime battles will soon be a thing of the past with customizable chore charts from Inspired Prose Printables.

Singing Dog Vanilla Introduces Organic Vanilla Cocoa Frosting Mix in Compostable Packaging

EUGENE, Ore. /ScoopCloud/ -- Singing Dog Vanilla is introducing an Organic Vanilla Cocoa Frosting Mix with compostable packaging after movement of their Organic Vanilla Frosting Mix surged by 209% this year. Sales growth is most likely encouraged by an increase in home baking while people shelter in place.

Test marketing of their Organic Vanilla Cocoa Frosting Mix in select stores demonstrated that this product continues to answer consumer's call for clean labels and ingredient names they recognize. By including each organic ingredient in individual compostable packets, home bakers can see, touch, and smell each ingredient. The rich organic cocoa aroma fills the room as they blend in the included vanilla extract.

"Customers are accustomed to opening a can of frosting and scooping out cocoa-flavored fat," said Marty Parisien, Co-founder of Singing Dog Vanilla. "Now they can open a bag of our frosting mix and see real vanilla and real cocoa."

"We've also been working on more sustainable packaging options. Our frostings come in compostable packaging made from plant fiber," said Marty Parisien. "Only the tin tie and the vanilla extract sachet are not compostable. We are working on a compostable solution for those components as well."

Although Singing Dog Vanilla began as a purveyor of pure vanilla extracts, they have more recently expanded their vanilla brand to include other vanilla products. These include a line of organic vanilla lip balms, organic vanilla salt, organic coconut palm sugar, and organic vanilla frosting mixes. Their products are available at Whole Foods Market, Natural Grocers, and independent grocery stores and food co-ops.

About Singing Dog Vanilla:

Singing Dog Vanilla also has a full line of retail products sold in natural grocery stores across the USA and internationally. Profits are shared with their vanilla farmers and employees. Employees also enjoy a paid day off on their birthday.

The Singing Dog Vanilla motto is "Silly Name ... Serious Vanilla."

The Jacobsen Announces Release of Sage, a New Augmented Intelligence Platform

BOULDER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Jacobsen has announced the release of their new augmented intelligence platform for commodity price forecasting, named Sage. "We are the first price reporting agency to release a forecasting product built on machine learning and augmented intelligence in our niche," states John Donicht, President of The Jacobsen.

The Sage platform does the heavy data analysis, comparisons, and algorithm adjustments to improve the price forecasting on a continual basis. Every report generated by Sage is reviewed by a senior team of analysts to interpret the data and ensure the patterns make sense.

Over the last two years, The Jacobsen invested heavily in refining their forecasting ability, in some cases, the forecasting has a margin of error of less than 1% of the actual price.

"It's rather amazing to see how close the machine algorithms hit the mark," said George Morris, Dir of Sales and Marketing, "while past success does not predict future results, it's still far better than purely human-based forecasting methods of the past."

To add fuel to their efforts to be the leader in commodity price forecasting, The Jacobsen also announced the hiring of Hamed Khoojinian, to Head up Machine Learning and the future development of Sage. Hamed has over ten years of experience in R&D, biophysics, nanotechnology, including machine learning. The new position will ensure Sage has a bright future at The Jacobsen.

"Price forecasting is just the start of where Sage can be applied," Khoojinian said, "any business process utilizing data is subject to improvement with the addition of Sage."

National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and MAGLITE Partner with Pedestrian Safety Institute to Promote National Traffic Safety Awareness Month

ONTARIO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) and Mag Instrument, U.S. Manufacturer of the iconic MAGLITE(R) flashlight, have partnered with the Pedestrian Safety Institute (PSI) to drive awareness of the deadliest days of the year for pedestrian and traffic fatalities in the Month of July.

July has been designated National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month because of the spike in accidents and fatalities during that time of year. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration a pedestrian was killed every 88 minutes in 2017, now that number is even higher.

6,283 pedestrians were killed in 2018, an increase of 3.4 percent from the previous year and the highest number in 30 years. A research paper by noted economist and author Jay Prag of the Drucker School finds that pedestrian injuries and deaths from accidents cost the United States economy more than $60 billion in 2018 alone. The vast majority of accidents and the highest percentage of deaths (up to 75% according to some studies) occurred at night with poor visibility and distracted driving being major contributing factors.

"Pedestrian deaths exceed those by drowning and motorcycle accidents; exceed deaths by food borne illness in the US; and exceed deaths by tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough combined. They even exceed the combined deaths in home fires, boating accidents, and commercial airline accidents each year. If pedestrian deaths were a disease, drug companies would be searching for a cure," said study author Jay Prag.

Roadway hazards abound for the first responder. Traffic volume and speed, distracted drivers and the additional distraction caused by a roadway incident leave firefighters and others working the scene highly vulnerable. As of June 8, 2020, 20 first responders have been struck and killed while working vehicle incidents this year. Dozens more have been injured, with an even higher number of near misses predicted to be occurring daily.

"The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation joins with other agencies in calling for all drivers to remain attentive, slow down when approaching an incident on the roadway and safely move over to give first responders the best opportunity to do their work and return home to their families," said Chief Ronald J. Siarnicki, Executive Director of the NFFF.

"Maglite is committed to safety and security and make our products with those reasons in mind. We urge people to stay safe and be particularly vigilant around this deadly time of year and of course - carry some form of illumination at night," said Tony Maglica, Founder and CEO Mag Instrument, Inc. "Our goal is to reduce fatalities and injuries that occur on our roads and highways in vehicle traffic accidents, especially among pedestrians, who are far likelier to be fatally struck by vehicles at night than in the daytime."

The mission of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Museum is to honor the fallen, tell the story of American law Enforcement, and make it safer for those who serve. Traffic safety for our officers is closely tied to pedestrian safety, and it is a priority to bring awareness of the topic to the nation. We are honored to be a partner in National Traffic Safety Awareness Month," said Marcia Ferranto, CEO of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

NFFF, NLEOMF, Maglite and PSI will be using various social media and other communication channels to promote National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month in July.

MAGLITE(R) is a founding sponsor of The Pedestrian Safety Institute and sponsored the research by Prag. The full research paper is available at the website: https://www.pedestriansafetyinstitute.com/.

About Mag Instrument:

Mag Instrument, manufacturer of the MAGLITE(R) flashlight, is proud to be a U.S.A. manufacturer. Each flashlight is a result of an obsession with fine engineering, craftsmanship and a commitment to perfection. Founder, owner and president Anthony Maglica has guided his company's growth from a one-man machine shop in 1955 to an enterprise that has proudly employed thousands of American workers since it produced its first flashlight in 1979. For more visit: https://maglite.com/.

About the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation:

The United States Congress created the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to lead a nationwide effort to remember America's fallen firefighters. Since 1992, the nonprofit Foundation has developed and expanded programs to honor fallen fire heroes and assist their families and co-workers. The Foundation also works closely with the U.S. Fire Administration to help prevent and reduce line-of-duty deaths and injuries. How to Combat the Spotted Lanternfly Now in the Nymph Stage

HUNTINGDON VALLEY, Pa. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Spotted Lanternfly is a destructive insect that has invaded the Philadelphia area. All winter long, their eggs lay waiting for the warm weather, carefully encased in a protective, hardened layer of secretion. Now that they've emerge as nymphs, it's time to take action!

How to Identify Spotted Lanternfly Nymphs

Spotted Lanternfly goes through several identities during its life cycle. Adult females lay eggs in the fall, and they cover the egg masses in a secretion. This secretion dries hard and camouflages to look like dirt or clay. The young nymphs that emerge from the eggs in spring are black with white spots. In early summer, they gain red markings on their bodies. Later in midsummer, they become adults and shed their skin to form wings on their backs.

How to Get Rid of Spotted Lanternfly Nymphs

The experts at Giroud Tree and Lawn have been working closely with Penn State University's Department of Entomology and Cooperative Extension to determine the best treatments and techniques for combating Spotted Lanternfly in each of the life cycle stages. Chemical spray treatments are only recommended if there are high populations of nymphs on a specific plant or tree.

Chemical Control Treatments During the Nymph Stages

Research shows that the best time to control Spotted Lanterfly is at the adult stage. However, there is an exception. Nymph control may be warranted if the population is high enough to cause feeding damage (wilting stems). Or, if Nymphs are focusing heavily on individual plants. In these cases, homeowners should have an ISA Certified Arborist evaluate the situation and determine if targeted treatment is required.

Control of Spotted Lanternfly Nymphs is usually not warranted because nymphs love to move around. The young insects don't stay on a single plant for long. To reach all the plants that might attract nymphs, the entire yard would have to be treated with a long, residual contact spray insecticide. Even with these treatments, nymphs can still invade from other locations!

Also, although insecticide will kill Nymphs, it can also kill beneficial insects and pollinators, such as bees and butterflies. The insect experts at Giroud prefer to use these types of sprays for targeted control, not broad scale treatments.

What's the Solution for Controlling Spotted Lanterfly Nymphs?

Ultimately, the best way to combat Spotted Lanternfly during the Nymph Stage is with manual methods. Sticky bands, Circle Traps, and good old fashioned squishing are key to getting ahead of these awful insects before they reach adulthood.

Sticky bands can be found at most hardware stores and also on Amazon.com. They are easy to install, but they should be changed weekly for the best results. However, it is important to be aware that these sticky bands can accidentally trap other insects and also small animals and birds. To avoid this problem, Penn State recommends cutting the sticky bands lengthwise so the surface area is not as broad. Spotted Lanternfly Nymphs are small and climb up the tree. They will get trapped at the bottom of the sticky band, so there is no need to have such a tall band. Penn State also urges homeowners to wrap the outside of the tree with chicken wire over the area of the sticky band. This will prevent squirrels, birds, and other small animals from becoming stuck to the band.

If homeowners are concerned about trapping small animals and other wildlife in sticky bands, Penn State offers an alternative solution:

"Recent research has shown that an entirely different kind of type of trap is also very effective and can dramatically reduce the chances of capturing other creatures. This new style trap is made of plastic-coated insect screening and does not use any sticky material at all. It is basically a tunnel that SLFs walk into. When they move upward in the trap, they end up in a dead-end collection container where they die." -extension.psu.edu

Nymphs Are a Warning Sign to Take Action

Equally important, recognize that the Nymphs are an early warning sign to get prepared for the swarms. By July or August, the Nymphs will turn into Adults. That's when the real trouble begins. It's also the time when control is most effective. Adults don't move around as much and tend to attack specific trees. As a result, an ISA Certified Arborist can target the high risk trees and protect them from Spotted Lanternfly.

Researchers are anticipating a major infestation of Spotted Lanternfly this season. Once the adults begin to swarm, the demand for treatment will surge so homeowners should have the arborist evaluate the entire property for problem areas as soon as possible.
