Voices for Humanity Chronicles a Massive Movement Against Drug Abuse Led by Salomon and Lucy Dabbah

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Scientology Network's VOICES FOR HUMANITY, the weekly series presenting heroic change makers from a variety of faiths, cultures and nations, working to uplift their communities, announces a new episode featuring anti-drug activists Lucy and Salomon Dabbah on May 15, 2024.

VOICES FOR HUMANITY airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Scientology Network.

Mexico is in an existential battle against drugs. With drug cartels preying on children as young as eight and entire neighborhoods falling under cartel control, the very future of Mexican society is threatened.

Recognizing that education will empower children to not fall prey to drug lords, Lucy and Salomon Dabbah started a movement to teach youth across the State of Mexico the truth about the devastating effects of drugs. Today, the program they introduced, the Foundation for a Drug-Free World's Truth About Drugs, is implemented in schools and civic institutions across the state and has educated millions on the dangers of drugs.

ABOUT LUCY AND SALOMON DABBAH

Lucy and Salomon Dabbah both grew up in Mexico City. Over 50 years ago they met, and married shortly after-and since then, they have done everything in life together. The tragic drug overdose death of a friend's son inspired their commitment to educate Mexican youth on the consequences of drug use. Lucy and Salomon decided it was up to them to help kids stay off drugs by educating them on the true dangers drugs pose. Together they started a chapter of Drug-Free World. Now, thanks to this tireless work, their drug education program is part of the official curriculum in all schools across the State of Mexico.

Today, Lucy and Salomon Dabbah lead Foundation for a Drug-Free World Mexico.

Sun Sentinel Names Spodak Dental Group a Winner of the South Florida Top Workplaces 2024 Award

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. /ScoopCloud/ -- Spodak Dental Group has been awarded the No. 25 Top Workplaces 2024 honor by The Sun Sentinel in the small business category. This is the eighth time that the Group has won the award.

The Top Workplaces lists are based solely on the results of a confidential survey that gathers employee feedback. The survey, administered by employee engagement technology partner Energage, LLC, uniquely measures employee experience and workplace culture, including employees feeling Respected & Supported, Enabled to Grow, and Empowered to Execute, among others.

"Our team is what makes our business so special. Not only do our team members take the very best care of each other, they also take the very best care of our family of patients," said Dr. Craig Spodak, general dentist at Spodak Dental Group. "We invest and reinvest in our team every chance we get because their happiness, growth and leadership abilities are directly correlated with the unparalleled care they provide."

The South Florida Sun Sentinel surveyed 39,694 employees in South Florida to find the best places to work. More than 22,400 employees responded to the survey.

For 2024, 6,649 organizations were invited to survey their employees, and 174 were surveyed. Based on employee survey feedback, a record 138 organizations have earned recognition in the 10th year of the Sun Sentinel's Top Workplaces program in small, medium and large business categories. Spodak Dental Group is ranked No. 25 of 79 small businesses. A small business is a business with less than 125 employees.

"Earning a Top Workplaces award is a badge of honor for companies, especially because it comes authentically from their employees," said Eric Rubino, Energage CEO. "That's something to be proud of. In today's market, leaders must ensure they're allowing employees to have a voice and be heard. That's paramount. Top Workplaces do this, and it pays dividends."

The Spodak Dental Group, an Inc. 5000 honoree, has evolved to become South Florida's premier, comprehensive dental facility, and comprises a world-class association of dental professionals poised to provide full-service dental care second-to-none in both scope and skill. Meet a Scientologist Shakes Things Up with Brazilian Belly Dancer Serena Ramzy

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Scientology Network's MEET A SCIENTOLOGIST, the weekly series spotlighting the everyday lives of Scientologists from around the world and all walks of life, announces an episode on classical Egyptian dance performer Serena Ramzy, premiering May 14, 2024.

MEET A SCIENTOLOGIST airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Scientology Network.

Serena Ramzy is a Brazilian-born belly dancer who is introducing the ancient art form to a new generation of dancers. With a deep knowledge of classical Egyptian dance, she has become a popular international performer and teacher, sharing her love and appreciation of belly dancing with audiences and students around the world.

ABOUT SERENA RAMZY

Serena Ramzy was born in São Paolo, Brazil, to an Italian Portuguese family as the youngest of five siblings. As a child, she took up ballet, displaying prodigious talent that won her a highly coveted scholarship to the São Paolo City Ballet. After a knee injury abruptly ended her dreams of becoming a ballerina, her sister introduced her to belly dancing. Serena not only found its low-impact nature allowed her to continue dancing, but she also developed a passion for studying, performing, choreographing and teaching classical Egyptian dance - ultimately helping to keep the art form flourishing worldwide. Crucial to Serena's being able to share her appreciation and knowledge was overcoming her anxiety about speaking in front of groups. She credits the skills she learned on the introductory Scientology course Success through Communication, which enabled her to comfortably express herself. With a professional career now spanning more than three decades, Serena continues to inspire passion in students worldwide and serve as an ambassador of an acclaimed ancient form of dance.

Mentors Honor L. Ron Hubbard for Helping Them Help At-Risk Youth Take the Path to a Better Life

HARLEM, N.Y. /ScoopCloud/ -- In the Bronx, where the violent crime rate is the highest of the five boroughs of New York City, TBS New Direction, a Bronx-based mentoring and youth interventionist nonprofit, is addressing the root of the problem. Joined by religious leaders and community activists from the Bronx and Harlem, TBS New Direction leaders and members gathered at the Church of Scientology Harlem Community Center to honor L. Ron Hubbard for his common-sense guide to better living, The Way to Happiness. The group uses the book to build character and expand young people's ability to succeed without resorting to crime. To express their appreciation, they awarded honorary membership to L. Ron Hubbard, along with a Black Spades Jacket, which they presented to a representative of the Church of Scientology.

"I am honored to extend L. Ron Hubbard our heartfelt recognition for his extraordinary contributions to humanity through The Way to Happiness," said Mr. Marion "Tiny" Frampton, founder of TBS New Direction at the presentation.

TBS New Direction programs include gun and gang violence prevention, public safety activities, job development and training, community outreach and mobilization and social intervention. For the past several years, the nonprofit has been using The Way to Happiness to help youth learn the importance of moral values and discover their own goodness and values.

TBS New Direction takes its name from The Black Spades, a street gang that began in the Bronx in the 1960s. The Black Spades' original purpose was to fight racism, violence, bigotry and crime, and to counter the rapid spread of heroin throughout the community. By the 1970s, however, when the original leadership stepped down, the gang lost its bearings and ultimately became one of the most dangerous gangs in New York.

In 2019, a corps of The Black Spades founding members created the nonprofit TBS New Direction to accomplish the group's original purpose through mentoring at-risk youth.

The Church of Scientology Harlem and its Community Center are dedicated to working side by side with groups of all denominations and providing an array of civic programs and humanitarian initiatives to strengthen and unite the community.

The classic and robust styling of the original Land Rover is combined with modern comfort, performance and reliability. Mortgage Purchase Lock Counts See First YoY Gain Since Fed Rate Hikes Began Two Years Ago

PLANO, Texas /ScoopCloud/ -- Optimal Blue today released its April 2024 Originations Market Monitor report, which reveals the first year-over-year increase in purchase mortgage lock counts since the Federal Reserve initiated rate hikes in March 2022.

"Purchase lock counts are a key market indicator as they control for changes in home prices and more volatile refi activity, so the year-over-year increase in April is a particularly encouraging sign that mortgage production may be turning a corner," said Brennan O'Connell, director of data solutions at Optimal Blue. "While we are cautiously optimistic, May figures will provide further confidence in the positive trend, as April 2024 numbers got a boost from the Easter holiday landing in March this year."

Key findings from the April 2024 Originations Market Monitor report, which are drawn from direct-source mortgage lock data, include:

* Year-over-year lock count growth: April purchase lock counts rose 5% over April 2023, the first increase in annual lock counts in more than two years.

* Spring homebuying drove overall increase in lock volume: Total monthly rate lock volume increased by 8.7% in April, driven by an 11.0% month-over-month increase in purchase lock volume.

* Declining refinance activity: The refinance share of total volume decreased to 12%, tying the low levels seen during the summer of 2023. Rate/term refinance volume fell by 13.7%, and cash-out volume remained flat.

* Rising interest rates: The benchmark Optimal Blue Mortgage Market Indices (OBMMI) observed significant increases across all categories as higher-than-anticipated inflation readings have cooled market expectations for rate cuts in 2024. The 30-year conforming fixed rate rose 51 basis points to finish the month at 7.24%. This figure is 80 basis points higher than one year ago.

* Shifts in loan type popularity: Nonconforming loan products, including jumbo and non-QM loans, increased their market share by 1.85% to 13.7%. Meanwhile, shares for conforming, FHA, and VA loans declined.

* Increasing loan and home purchase prices: The average loan amount increased $7,200 to $374.5K, and the average home purchase price climbed $14,100 to $477.9K.

The full April 2024 Originations Market Monitor report provides further detail on these findings and more insights into U.S. mortgage market trends: https://www2.optimalblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/OB_OMM_APR2024_Report.pdf

Down Payment Resource integration with ICE Mortgage Technology embeds down payment assistance program support into core mortgage origination software

ATLANTA, Ga. /ScoopCloud/ -- Down Payment Resource (DPR), the housing industry's leading technology for connecting homebuyers with homebuyer assistance programs, today announced a new integration using the latest API framework from Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) for mortgage technology. Available via the Encompass Partner Connect™ API Platform, the integration makes it easier for lenders to support homebuyers with the nation's 2,300-plus down payment assistance (DPA) programs.

DPR's integration with Encompass embeds support for DPA programs directly into core loan production systems, arming lending staff with the information they need to confidently deliver DPA. Borrowers are automatically matched with eligible company approved DPA programs based on declarations and loan application data. LOs are presented with program information, such as benefit amounts and eligibility requirements, so they can advise borrowers on their DPA options and guide them through program-specific processes. DPA program selection is automatically communicated downstream to underwriters by translating program requirements into importable loan conditions, making them easier to manage.

Using DPA can lower the loan amount for a more favorable debt-to-income ratio or provide cash to meet the necessary cash-to-close, helping more low-to-moderate income (LMI) borrowers qualify for a mortgage. A study conducted by Down Payment Resource and the Urban Institute that examined the impact DPA could have had on buyers in the top 10 United States metropolitan statistical areas found that almost half (43.6%) of originated purchase mortgages were eligible for DPA. As far as loan types, 79.8% of FHA loans and 81.9% of USDA loans could have been eligible for DPA.

Moreover, the study found that DPA could have potentially salvaged 30.7% of denied applicants - a gap that affects a significant portion of LMI and minority applicants. Increasing pull-through not only benefits homebuyers, it also offers lenders a much-needed opportunity to grow loan volume in a tight market.

"DPA programs are crucial for promoting homeownership accessibility, particularly for first-time homebuyers, LMI homebuyers and homebuyers of color. Unfortunately, most loan officers don't pursue DPA on behalf of their clients because they don't know about existing programs or are hesitant to try something unfamiliar," said Rob Chrane, founder and CEO of Down Payment Resource. "Embedding Down Payment Resource's lender solutions in Encompass helps LOs overcome those apprehensions. Folding DPA functionality in the core origination gives LOs confidence that they can effectively originate DPA and make borrowers happy. We're giving lending staff everything they need to know the moment a loan needs to be created."

DPR maintains a comprehensive, up-to-date database of every DPA program in the nation. According to DPR's Q1 2024 HPI report, there are 2,373 homebuyer assistance programs available nationwide. All 3,143 U.S. counties have at least one DPA program, more than 2,000 counties have 10 or more programs, and the average DPA benefit is $17,000.

"We hope that by making mortgage staff 'instant experts' on DPA, more homebuyers can benefit from DPA," concluded Chrane.

NEW YORK, N.Y. /ScoopCloud/ -- Those seeking help, beware, warns Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), a mental health industry watchdog. For Mental Health Awareness Month, the group marched through the streets of New York to raise awareness about coercive mental health practices including forced institutionalization and the use of electroshock (ECT) - even on children. Strategically timed to coincide with the American Psychiatric Association (APA) annual convention in the city, CCHR also brought its Psychiatry: An Industry of Death Exhibit to New York. Due to its popularity, the exhibit has been extended through May 12 at 37 Union Square West in Manhattan.

CCHR denounces ECT as an outdated and brain-damaging procedure. The group demanded the APA take immediate action to implement the joint Guidance on Mental Health, Human Rights and Legislation issued in October 2023 by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

Psychiatry: An Industry of Death Exhibit contains vital information documenting psychiatric practices that put health, safety - even life - at risk. In addition to evidence compiled on psychiatry's continued use of involuntary commitment and shock treatment, exhibit panels also document the danger of highly addictive drugs prescribed to children whose side effects include violence and suicide.

The Exhibit is open 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. through May 12. Admission is free.

Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) is a mental health watchdog founded in 1969 by psychiatrist Thomas Szasz and the Church of Scientology, inspired by visionary and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard who believed that human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream.

Courtney Dodd, Floify’s head of marketing, named a PROGRESS in Lending Sales, Marketing and PR Trailblazer

BOULDER, Colo. /ScoopCloud/ -- Floify, the mortgage industry's leading point-of-sale (POS) solution, today announced that its Head of Marketing, industry-veteran Courtney Dodd, has been named a 2024 Sales, Marketing and PR Trailblazer award honoree by PROGRESS in Lending. Now in its fifth year, the award recognizes the top sales, marketing and public relations executives making the biggest impact on the mortgage industry today.

Dodd joined Floify in 2023 with 12 years of experience in the mortgage and fintech sectors. Since then, the marketing expert has implemented a full-funnel strategic marketing strategy from the ground up to rebrand Floify, an exceedingly user-friendly point-of-sale (POS) platform, and reinforce its position as a fintech innovator. In 2023 and 2024, she successfully led the launch of two new products, Floify Broker Edition and Floify Lender Edition.

"We are extremely proud of Courtney and this recognition from PROGRESS in Lending as an industry trailblazer," said Sofia Rossato, president and general manager at Floify. "Courtney has brought a deep understanding of the market and the needs of our customers to finetune and launch products that exactly match their needs and budgets, which is helping us gain market share even in a 'down' market."

Many of Dodd's fast-track achievements at Floify are based on her extensive mortgage industry marketing experience. Dodd joined SimpleNexus (now an nCino company) in 2019, and her marketing efforts helped the platform more than double its active users. During her tenure, she was also half of a two-person team that developed a consultant program called the SimpleNexus Advocacy Program (SNAP), which brought in more than $1.5 million in sales revenue in the two-year period she worked on the project. Dodd led the sponsor program at SimpleNexus User Group (SNUG) from 2020 to 2023, tripling sponsorship contributions in this period. In 2021, she was promoted to director of integrated marketing, and she oversaw all events/conferences, association relationships, demand gen marketing, digital marketing and account-based marketing.

Prior to SimpleNexus, Dodd was product marketing manager at Ellie Mae (now ICE Mortgage Technology), where she led strategic product marketing initiatives, including branding, positioning, client communications and go-to-market planning. She also served as marketing manager at Calyx Software and was the regional marketing consultancy team lead at PrimeLending, a PlainsCapital Company.

"It's an honor to be recognized by PROGRESS in Lending as a trailblazer in my field and add this recognition to the other accolades being earned by Floify and its team," said Dodd. "I feel we're a company on the move, bringing innovation to our customers and the industry at a time when mortgage lenders and brokers need to work more efficiently and contain costs while creating a digital-first and welcoming user experience to customers."

Celebrating the 74th Anniversary of L. Ron Hubbard’s ‘Dianetics’: The Exciting Adventure Continues

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Untold millions have benefited from L. Ron Hubbard's perennially best-selling "Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health" since it was first published on May 9, 1950. As the book's diamond jubilee year begins, "Dianetics" is still startling and new to anyone reading and using it for the first time. And the reason is simple. As Mr. Hubbard stated at the beginning of the book, "Dianetics is an adventure. It is an exploration into Terra Incognita, the human mind, that vast hitherto unknown realm half an inch back of our foreheads." And with the Dianetics Seminar available at Scientology Churches and Missions the world over, it is easier than ever before to experience that adventure.

Amy, who was looking for something that could "heal the soul," responded to the Scientology Super Bowl ad suggesting she should satisfy her curiosity by simply walking into a Church of Scientology. She took part in a Dianetics seminar, where people new to the subject partner with another person to learn the basics of Dianetics and use it with each other.

"I was nervous at first," she says. "But I followed the instructions, and that made me feel more comfortable and confident." She felt "really in tune" with the woman she was helping.

Then, when it was her turn, Amy says, "I was able to address an incident that happened when I was 17 years old. Instead of avoiding it, I felt all the emotions and pain as if it were happening now. I expressed emotions in session that I never allowed myself to feel, and I realized that this really works. And now that incident has been erased. I am no longer afraid to talk about it." And the incident no longer has any hold over her.

For Bikash, before he began the Dianetics Seminar he felt as though he was "at the end of the line. I sometimes hated myself. I had a lot of problems that I just didn't know how to deal with."

This took a toll on his marriage. "I couldn't explain how I felt," he says, describing his relationship with his wife as "a real roller coaster."

"The Dianetics Seminar made me more effective in controlling my emotions and solving the issues I faced," he says.

Before using Dianetics, the way he would deal with a situation "used to make me feel just horrible," he says. "But now, I can look at that same situation, and while it hasn't changed, how I view it has changed." And bottom line, "I am so much happier."

Warren had no idea he still had grief about his grandmother. "I was honestly surprised that I cried, but it was a great feeling to release my emotions on that," he says. "I felt a great weight lift off me." He can now talk about his grandmother "without experiencing the pain of her loss."

But Warren also says it was gratifying to help guide the man he was partnered with, using Dianetics procedure, "so he could feel relief."

Before her Dianetics Seminar, Cristina used to think "everything bad that happened was my fault." Now she knows that's not true "and I don't feel guilty anymore."

The publication of Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health on May 9, 1950, unleashed "a full-scale explosion," as newspapers of the day described it.

When Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health rolled off the presses 74 years ago, the book soared onto the New York Times bestseller list, where it remained for 26 consecutive weeks. Publishers Weekly described Dianetics as "perhaps the best-selling non-Christian book of all time in the West" and awarded it the prestigious Century Award for appearing more than 100 weeks on its bestseller list. It is unquestionably the most popular book ever published on the human mind.

Dianetics now spans every culture, across every continent, in more than 50 languages.

The Dianetics Seminar is based on the book and a set of 32 films called How to Use Dianetics. Available in 17 languages, the films provide more than four hours of visual instruction in Dianetics principles and procedures. The films and the book can be purchased at any Scientology Church of Mission, most bookstores, and through Dianetics.org.

Robert J. Shearer’s ‘We Were Better Together’ Is a Definitive Couples Guide to Cancer and Elegy to His Late Wife, Melissa

LOS ANGELES, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- "We Were Better Together: Navigating Cancer as a Couple with Love, Practical Advice and Expert Guidance" (published by Legacy Launch Pad Publishing) began in 2014, when entrepreneur Robert J. Shearer and his wife Melissa faced tragic news two years into retirement together: Melissa had been diagnosed with uterine cancer.

"When we got the news, I quit everything to take care of her, and it was a blessing to be able to do so without financial worry," Shearer says. "Even so, it was overwhelming getting organized. It's like having a job you never wanted and that you can't quit, even though you're not sure if or when it will get easier."

The couple was surprised by a lack of information about navigating cancer and advocating for themselves in medical settings. Most of all, they had no guidance on how to protect their relationship while facing illness together. Even so, the Shearers pledged to be resourceful and strong for each other. Despite challenges, they consulted experts, developed an integrative care plan and did all they could to prioritize their relationship.

As a result, they were blessed to cherish another eight years together before Melissa died. During that time, and thanks to their preparation and research, their love deepened in ways neither had expected-helping Shearer prepare to transform his grief into gratitude and compelling him to help others do the same.

A hybrid memoir and cancer guide, "We Were Better Together: Navigating Cancer as a Couple with Love, Practical Advice and Expert Guidance" (ISBN: 978-1-956955-99-6 [ebook]; 978-1-956955-98-9 [paperback]; 978-1-964377-04-9 [hardcover]), is full of expert guidance on navigating insurance, hospice, cancer treatment and intimacy - alongside Bob and Melissa's profound love story, told through heartfelt letters.

Shearer has also pledged to donate all the book's proceeds to fund cancer research.

"Both of us would've been so grateful for clear advice and practical guidance at the beginning of this journey," Shearer says. "I wrote this book to help others like us, and to do Melissa proud."

"We Were Better Together" is available now on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other major online booksellers. For more about the book and to donate to University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center, visit https://wewerebettertogether.com/.

New Solution Connects API-Driven Back-End Execution to Front-End Pricing with Industry-First Features

SAN DIEGO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Mortgage Capital Trading, Inc. (MCT®), the de facto leader in innovative mortgage capital markets technology, today announced the release of the Base Rate Generator, an industry-changing solution that allows mortgage lenders to directly inform their front-end rate sheet pricing with their back-end capital markets executions. By combining live agency API connections, co-issue executions, aggregator pricing, and custom TBA indications, the MCT Base Rate Generator allows mortgage lenders to improve margin management and competitive performance.

"The Base Rate Generator has helped us to put out a better rate sheet to our loan officers and third parties," shared Brian Gilpin, CFO and Head of Capital Markets at Embrace Home Loans. "It has helped us to be more exact in our pricing which, as a result, has generated more business for us."

Generating custom front-end borrower pricing - either through a base rate upload to a Product and Pricing Engine (PPE) or through a formatted traditional rate sheet - is a constant challenge for mortgage lenders, particularly in the face of rapidly shifting market dynamics. Based on live pricing connections to the agencies and an ever-growing network of broker-dealers and correspondent aggregators, MCT is uniquely positioned to architect a more accurate, granular, and efficient system for producing front-end pricing.

The Base Rate Generator was developed with direct input from clients of all sizes and includes industry-first features that satisfy lenders whether they securitize, deliver to the cash window, or prefer working exclusively with aggregators. Custom TBA indications on illiquid coupons can be incorporated directly, along with float carry and specified settlement calculations. Lenders can use the spec margin holdback feature to systematically withhold or pass-through the associated pay ups increasingly prevalent across the investor pricing spectrum. Best execution blending functionality supports selecting the second or third best execution as the pricing basis, or an average of the top several, to smooth out and protect against margin-killing outliers that may not be available for delivery on the back end.

"The recent past has presented many challenges for our lender community - market volatility, illiquid coupons, and higher interest rates to name a few," said Phil Rasori, COO at MCT. "We're proud of our on-going collaboration with clients to develop the best solutions to combat these challenges and preserve margins. The Base Rate Generator brings needed granularity and transparency to pricing in a way that has never been seen in our sector."

MCT offers the Base Rate Generator as an add-on service for clients using its suite of capital markets solutions or as a stand-alone service.

Mortgage lenders interested in learning more about the industry-first features included in Base Rate Generator should register for the upcoming webinar on June 4, 2024. Learn more: https://mct-trading.com/webinar/preserve-margins-and-improve-pricing-with-base-rate-generator/

Psychiatry: An Industry of Death Exhibit takes visitors through the history of psychiatry, from its dark beginnings at the Bethlehem Royal Hospital, known as Bedlam, which has inspired numerous horror books and films. Top Female Sports Executive, Lisa Pantages of the San Francisco Giants, Named FWSF 2024 Financial Woman of the Year

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Financial Women of San Francisco (FWSF) today named Lisa Pantages as the FWSF 2024 Financial Woman of the Year. Ms. Pantages is the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the San Francisco Giants. FWSF is particularly excited to award the organization's highest honor to a female sports executive, a sector which FWSF has not previously recognized. When she assumed her role as CFO, Lisa became the first woman to ever hold the position at the Giants and one of just a few in all of Major League Baseball. The San Francisco Giants are one of the oldest and most successful teams in Major League Baseball history, with more wins than any team in the history of major American sports. Lisa is not only a lifelong San Francisco Giants fan, she is now in her 22nd season working in the Giants organization and was named its Chief Financial Officer in 2013.

In addition to her role as the CFO of the Giants organization, she also serves as the Treasurer of the Giants Community Fund, an organization dedicated to using baseball and softball to promote health, education, and character development to propel youth in underserved regions to be positive forces in their communities. Lisa has, throughout her career, dedicated herself to mentoring, advancing, and honoring others in the organizations in which she has worked. During her tenure at Deloitte, she created and led the creation of the career development function for its audit practice to support career advancement and growth of her colleagues. She also demonstrates her unwavering support of youth throughout the Bay Area in her work with the Giants Community Fund. Lisa's efforts in support of the next generation of leaders particularly resonates with FWSF which has, since 1985, been providing scholarships to San Francisco Bay Area women studying at colleges and universities across the Bay Area.

Lisa also shared her perspective on the importance of mentorship. "I've always had great mentors in my career at Deloitte and at the San Francisco Giants who were instrumental in my success. I believe that when you get good advice and guidance, it's your responsibility to pass it along. At Deloitte, I had the opportunity to help train, teach and influence women who would become leaders of the future. At the Giants, I've been able to continue mentoring and advising my colleagues as well as interns and college and high school students on their career paths and opportunities in Finance and related areas," she explained.

Sue English Mazzetti, FWSF's 2024 President and a Co-founder and Partner at Quorum Private Wealth, also shared her excitement regarding the FWSF's 2024 honoree, "Lisa Pantages' decades of providing leadership and mentorship to the Bay Area's financial community completely aligns to Financial Women of San Francisco's mission of paying it forward to the next generation of female leaders. Her exceptional professional success as a female leader in the Giants' organization, her passion for mentoring and supporting other women, and volunteerism as Treasurer of the Giants Community Fund, demonstrate Lisa's passion for lifting the community around her. We are thrilled to recognize Lisa's accomplishments by honoring her as our Financial Woman of the Year."

"I'm so thankful for this recognition from the Financial Women of San Francisco. I never expected to be able to combine my passion for Finance with my love of the game of baseball. It's certainly not something for which I ever expected to be honored. But this honor reinforces the importance of continuing to mentor and give back by paying it forward," Lisa said.

Former colleagues describe Lisa as a bundle of positive energy that absolutely lights up a room when she enters it. FWSF welcomes the Bay Area community to attend the celebration and luncheon honoring Lisa which will take place on Wednesday, September 18th, 2024. It will be a wonderful opportunity to gather to honor a leader who has quietly been supporting others and making a significant difference across our Bay Area community for many years. She might even share some of her amazing photographs of the Giants, her Mission Bay neighborhood walks, and other adventures with us.

The Financial Woman of the Year award was established in 1996 to celebrate the organization's 40th anniversary. Past FWSF Presidents Leslie Miller and Shelly Porges created the Financial Woman of the Year event with the triple purposes of raising funds for the FWSF's scholarship program, increasing awareness of FWSF, and honoring the careers of senior leaders in finance. Since then, it has provided a platform for high-achieving honorees to share their professional experience with others and to inspire other women in their own careers and ambitions. Lisa joins a distinguished list of former honorees including Teresa Bryce Bazemore, President and CEO of FHLBank of San Francisco, Nancy Pfund, Founder and Managing Partner of DBL Partners; Jenny Johnson, CEO of Franklin Templeton; Terri Kallsen, Chief Operating Officer at Wealth Enhancement Group; Heidi Roizen, Partner at Threshold Ventures; Robin Washington, former chief financial officer (CFO) of Gilead; Debbie Messemer, former managing partner of KPMG's Bay Area Market; Carrie Dolan, CFO of Kraken Digital Asset Exchange; Sarah Friar, CEO of Next Door and former CFO of Square; and Pat Yarrington, former CFO of Chevron.

About Lisa Pantages

Lisa Pantages has served as the Chief Financial Officer of the San Francisco Giants since 2013, overseeing the finances, long-term planning, banking and cash management, procurement, and office operations of the organization. She joined the franchise in 2003 as Vice President of Finance and Controller responsible for the daily financial and reporting operations of the club, the privately-owned ballpark, and its affiliated companies, including all general accounting activities, financial reporting, budgets, and payroll.

When Pantages assumed her role as CFO, she became the first woman to ever hold the position at the Giants and one of just a few and the first in all of Major League Baseball. Pantages' 37-year career in accounting, audit, and finance spans over many industries. She began her career with Deloitte & Touche where she spent 16 years in the Audit and Accounting Practice. During her more than two decades at Deloitte, she worked with public and private companies in banking, mutual funds, technology, and sports. She spent her last four years at Deloitte creating and leading a Career Development function for its audit practice in Northern California and Hawaii. Pantages was an integral part of the Deloitte team that assisted Giants Managing General Partner Peter Magowan and his investor group purchase the Giants and keep them in San Francisco. She also served as a volunteer on the Giants' "Yes on B" campaign to build the club's new ballpark at China Basin, reporting campaign finances.

The fourth generation San Francisco native earned both a bachelor's degree in business administration/accounting and an MBA in Finance from San Francisco State University. Pantages was a founding member of Momentum, the Giants women's employee resource group, and serves as a mentor and resource to many colleagues, especially other women in finance. She currently serves on the board of the Giants Community Fund as the Treasurer overseeing the financial operations of the Fund. Pantages previously served as the Audit Committee Chairperson at the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito for 10 years.

About the San Francisco Giants

One of the oldest teams in Major League Baseball, the 141-year-old franchise moved to San Francisco from New York in 1958. After playing a total of 42 years in Seals Stadium and Candlestick Park, the team moved to the privately constructed, downtown ballpark on the corner of 3rd and King in 2000. The organization is widely recognized for its innovative business practices and baseball excellence having been named in the past decade the Sports Organization of the Year by Street & Smith's Sports Business Journal, Organization of the Year by Baseball America and ESPN's Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year. Oracle Park is also the only ballpark in the country to have earned Silver, Gold and Platinum LEED certification for an existing building.

Since opening its gates, Oracle Park has become internationally-renowned as a premier venue in the world of both sports and entertainment. On the diamond, more than 66 million spectators have witnessed countless magical moments, including three World Series Championships (2010, 2012 & 2014), the raising of four National League Pennants and eight playoff appearances. The ballpark has also hosted some of music's biggest acts, including Dead & Company, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé & Jay-Z, Ed Sheeran, the Rolling Stones, the Eagles, Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band, Green Day and Billy Joel.

Long Time Ferret Activist Pat Wright Files Lawsuit Against California Fish and Game Commission President Eric Sklar

LA MESA, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Pat Wright, a resident of La Mesa, California, has filed a lawsuit against Eric Sklar, President of the California Fish and Game Commission in San Diego Superior Court, challenging the arbitrary classification of domestic ferrets as wild animals. The lawsuit, titled Wright v. Sklar, was filed in the San Diego Superior Court and seeks a writ of mandate and declaratory relief. Wright is the founder of LegalizeFerrets.org.

Mr. Wright, acting pro se, asserts that the California Fish and Game Commission's decision to categorize domestic ferrets as wild animals, without conducting thorough (or any) scientific studies or affording meaningful public input, is unjust and lacks a foundation in scientific evidence. The lawsuit alleges that this decision subjects domestic ferrets to unnecessary prohibition and regulatory restrictions.

The lawsuit highlights the fundamental rights at stake, including property rights, due process rights, and the right to have governmental decisions based on scientific evidence. Mr. Wright contends that the Commission's actions represent a clear violation of these rights and are incompatible with legal standards governing the proper classification of domesticated animals.

In response to a motion to demurrer filed by the Attorney General's office on behalf of Mr. Sklar, Mr. Wright has provided a detailed response, citing legal precedents and challenging the grounds for demurrer. He maintains that his petition for a writ of mandate is legally sufficient and urges the Commission to reconsider its intended demurrer.

Mr. Wright emphasizes his commitment to pursuing judicial recourse in a diligent and expedient manner. Despite efforts to secure legal representation, Mr. Wright has been unable to find an attorney, and he encourages any legal assistance or support in this matter.

For further information or inquiries regarding the lawsuit, please contact Wright at 619-303-0645 or via email at CLIFFNotes@legalizeferrets.org.

Former Addict Dedicates Himself to Paying Help Forward With Foundation for a Drug-Free World

VALENCIA, Spain /ScoopCloud/ -- No stranger to drug abuse and its toll, Alfredo Riaño, who heads the chapter of Foundation for a Drug-Free World in Valencia, Spain, shares his own story to help kids avoid the ordeal of addiction that he eventually escaped from. And he trains educators, law enforcement and other community partners who share his passion to reach youth with the truth about drugs before they fall prey to the dwindling spiral of drug abuse and addiction.

At first, life was a party, or so it seemed. When Riaño finished his military service, he found himself the perfect job, working as a PR for an alcohol company that sold to bars and clubs. Nights were a procession of discos and parties.

Then he discovered cocaine. Drugs were easy to come by in the circles he traveled. Night after night he'd get home around 4 a.m. after an entire gram of cocaine and a liter of gin. But the high he felt when he first tried the drug evaded him as he attempted to recreate the sensation by ingesting ever-increasing amounts. "The more I consumed, the worse I felt," he says. "I felt neurotic, unhappy, depressed."

Then he tried supplementing the cocaine with methamphetamine. "I was a human waste," he says. The final straw came with LSD. "It completely destroyed my life."

Riaño's luck only turned when a friend invited him to visit the Church of Scientology and introduced him to technology developed by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard to free people from drugs. The friend also helped Riaño take stock of his life and his goals and set a new, ethical course for the future.

Drug-free and sober since then, Riaño has been paying forward the help he received by reaching out with Foundation for a Drug-Free World Valencia and its Truth About Drugs initiative, the drug education and prevention campaign supported by Scientology Churches and Scientologists. In addition to bringing the campaign to the classroom, Riaño trains educators, law enforcement and community groups so they too can reach youth with this vital information.

A natural showman, Riaño makes his drug prevention presentations fun. The youth-friendly booklets and videos of the Foundation's Truth About Drugs initiative make it easy to involve young people in the lessons. He invites their participation by having them create skits. His classes not only make a lasting impression, they also give young people the opportunity to examine their attitudes about drugs and alcohol at a critical time in their lives.

Studies show that the earlier youth begin abusing drugs, the greater the risk of lifelong dependency. Adolescent drug use is also tied to academic difficulties, health-related problems, poor peer relationships, and crime.

After his lessons, he has the classes fill out anonymous surveys, in which quite a few admit that they smoke marijuana, but now say they have decided never to smoke it again. More than 80 percent say they never understood what drugs really were before, but now they do. They often comment that what they thought about drugs before was based on false information. And they feel more confident now about explaining the truth about drugs to friends and siblings.

"Many of them come to tell me that I have changed their lives," says Riaño.

One teacher told Riaño that after his presentation, parents started calling, saying their children arrived home excited and told them all about what they had learned.

"A principal told me he had never seen anything like this. The entire class of 60 students spent an hour and a half totally attentive," he says. A 16-year-old girl told him she was going home to have a very serious talk with her mother. She decided to help her stop drinking because she realized that it was destroying her life. One boy came up to Riaño at the end of the class and said "I am at a point in my life where I was hesitating about whether to continue with sports or start going out drinking at night. Thanks to this class I have absolutely no doubt. I will continue with sports."

Riaño appoints students as Drug-Free Valencia ambassadors and encourages them to share the Truth About Drugs materials with others.

He has recently extended his campaign to the military and is training a corps of volunteers to expand its impact.

For more information, visit the Foundation for a Drug-Free World website, watch the Truth About Drugs documentary and Truth About Drugs public service announcements on the Scientology Network, or visit the nearest Scientology Church to learn more about the campaign and join or create a Drug-Free World chapter in your community.

Human Rights Group Demands the American Psychiatric Association Ban ECT and End All Harmful and Coercive Practices

NEW YORK, N.Y. /ScoopCloud/ -- Midtown Manhattan reverberated with angry voices chanting "Stop the Torture-Ban ECT" as a phalanx of protesters from Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) made their way from Times Square to the annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) at Jacob Javits Convention Center. Their demands: The American Psychiatric Association must end coercive practices.

CCHR called on the American Psychiatric Association to issue a formal position statement condemning the use of coercive psychiatric practices. The group demanded the APA take immediate action to implement the joint Guidance on Mental Health, Human Rights, and Legislation issued in October 2023 by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

The guidance states: "Coercive practices in mental health care violate the right to be protected from torture or cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment." The WHO pointed out that "ECT without consent violates the right to physical and mental integrity and may constitute torture and ill-treatment." It also clarifies that informed consent requires that those "offered ECT should also be made aware of all its risks and potential short- and long-term harmful effects, such as memory loss and brain damage." And it states ECT on children "should be prohibited through legislation."

It further takes aim against involuntary commitment. And it points out that "people who are most marginalized - for example, those from a low socioeconomic or educational background, or those who belong to a minority - are often denied the few protections mental health legislation may provide for."

Rather than take the lead in confronting these issues, and despite repeated demands from CCHR that they do so, the APA has failed to take action.

"While other associations have taken steps to denounce coercion, the APA's silence persists," said CCHR International President Jan Eastgate. "Urgent action is needed to uphold fundamental human rights in the mental health system and to prohibit practices tantamount to torture."

Learn more about psychiatry's crimes and violations of human rights at the world-renowned Citizens Commission on Human Rights Psychiatry: An Industry of Death Expo.

The visually spectacular exhibit opened Sunday, May 5, at 37 Union Square West, one block west of Park Avenue at 17th Street, and will continue through May 10. It features displays with graphic archival and current footage, interviews with medical experts, and moving accounts from victims of psychiatric abuse.

CCHR is a mental health watchdog founded in 1969 by psychiatrist Thomas Szasz and the Church of Scientology, inspired by visionary and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard who believed that human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream.

MCT Reports A 2% Lock Volume Increase Despite Rising Rates

SAN DIEGO, Calif. /ScoopCloud/ -- Mortgage Capital Trading, Inc. (MCT®), the de facto leader in innovative mortgage capital markets technology, today reported a 1.87% increase in mortgage lock volume compared to the previous month. To gain comprehensive insights into the market dynamics, industry professionals and enthusiasts are invited to download the complete report.

Amidst an environment of increasing rates, the increase in mortgage lock volume over the previous month illustrates a possible shift in public perception. Potential homebuyers appear to be adapting to the 7% interest rate, viewing it as a new normal. This increase is further supported by the seasonal uptick in real estate activity.

The persistence of housing demand, coupled with a stable market for home values, is instilling confidence among buyers who believe acquiring home equity will compensate for the higher rates.

Andrew Rhodes, Senior Director and Head of Trading at MCT, commented on recent market movements: "The market has rallied a point on the UM30 6's following the Federal Reserve's decision to stay the course with interest rates. While the outlook for the summer remains positive, it's closely tied to forthcoming economic reports. With April nonfarm payroll coming in lower than expected the Federal Reserve is waiting to see if this will become a trend or is just an outlier in terms of strength in jobs. The May CPI report, coming out on the 15th, will be particularly pivotal in determining the market's expectations in rate cuts sooner or later with some already pricing in cuts in September."
